President Obama at Kretchmar’s Bakery in Beaver, Pa., July 6 (Pete Souza)
****
Hellooooooooo everyone.
Okay, a few things.
* A gazillion thanks to our beloved VC for her highly excellent #CanMittMatchThis? post.
* And a gazillion thanks too for all the very lovely emails today about last night’s ’20 Reasons Why We Fight For This Fella‘ post, I’ll get around to replying to you all eventually, I promise – but I’m abysmally behind with my emails, so please forgive me!
* To all those who tried to comment on the blog for the first time the last couple of days – if you’re genuine PBO supporters, thank you. But the house rules stay the same: newcomers’ comments are only put through if they sign in with longstanding Twitter, Facebook or WordPress accounts. Sorry about that, but it’s the only way to keep this a Tea/Firebagger-free zone.
* I’m up in the air tomorrow afternoon – literally. In a very small plane 😕 Gulp. I’ll almost be sitting on the pilot’s lap. Poor creature. So, there’ll be a gap in posting, until I hit the ground – gently, hopefully – and then I’ll battle with my broadband-will-probably-be-dodgy-in-this-middle-of-nowhere-location difficulty.
But I’ll get it sorted …. I hope.
Meanwhile, chat away 😉

1st?
ok Chips…before you go into your teeny tiny plane 2morrow,I need my acknowledgement for 1st. LOL. Have a safe trip girl.
Paddle away Uche!
Have a mimosa before your flight. All will be well. 😀
Yum!
Sitting on the pilot’s lap …
Just make sure you don’t distract him even in the slightest possible way.
Happy flying.
Chipsticks you make sure the pilot’s mind is on his job and nothing else.
😆 I will anniebella! Stunningly fab as I am – cough – I think the pilot’s mind will remain on the job!
Hahahaha….don’t try anything funny with the pilot Chips. Just keep picturing Mankini Newt. That’s all I have to say. 😀
😆 I’ll behave, I promise amk. I should add this isn’t an epic voyage, with the wind at our back the flight will take 45 minutes. Still, I feel like the Amelia Earhart of the 21st century 😎
Safe travels, Chips!!
To keep his mind off ‘other things’, you could talk to him about mittbot. Bet the time literally files away. He’ll probably break the ‘sound’ barrier and land you in record time.
Love you Chips. Safe journey and hurry back to us, please. ((((((((((((( Thank you for our beautiful and respectful haven)))))))))))))HZ
Back in the old days when I could still tolerate flying, I was on a small plane for the first leg of a journey. It was likely not as small as yours because we had a pilot AND a “stewardess”—-that’s what flight attendants were then—-and about 10 passengers. And—-I’m not kidding—–the stewardess sat on the pilot’s lap for most of the trip, which was obvious to the amusement of all on board as the cockpit door was open—-maybe there wasn’t a cockpit door? It was a real jolly, laughy, unique flight—–good time was had by all—–especially the pilot and the stewardess.
Yes! Safe travels:) I would rather start out really early and flap my arms than get on a little plane….have a great adventure and we’ll be here when you get back…leave the mats out before you go. Just as a precaution…you know we have some rowdy ones here…not me, but you know who they are:)
yeah, me too. I’m a terribad flyer. Especially if the airport bar isn’t open.
If I have the miles/AmEx points and can upgrade myself to turn left at the door, then for some reason the aircraft will magically not crash. Which is why I put EVERYTHING including groceries on my AmEx.
Wish I was in that bakery with POTUS.
As one of those trying to comment for the first time, I completely understand, and am willing to follow the rules. Anything to earn my bones here. I really do appreciate this website. It really is nice to see people who are truly all-in for this president.
Welcome Upstater!
lmao @ Anything to earn my bones here.
Chips, enforce the Omarta code to this guy/gal here.
Welcome upstarter.
To make your bones…Chips will have to send you the mankini pic to see if you withstand it. If you do,welcome aboard.
LOL 😀
Thanks uche, some of us had quite happily forgotten the horror of the primaries….. Eew. 😉
Welcome to TOD Upstater.
Warm welcome to you, Upstater:) Hope you’re ready to get busy:)
Safe & happy travels to you Chips.
Chips…thank you for all the posts today. I just got caught up. Lost Internet Phone and Cable early this morning and they did not get it on until after 8. I just got threw after working the rest of the day.
Good luck in the small plane tomorrow. Love them myself. Only trouble I have is coming down when there is heat and no AC. This is Texas I was mentioning. I worked for a Dentist that had his own plane. Nothing better than working in the morning then climbing in the plane to do lunch or dinner in another state. Boy the good ole days.
Here’s a link to three videos of BainMitt in 2009 exhorting the White House to replicate Romneycare for the nation:
http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/mitt-romneys-suggested-three-times-in-2009-that-o
someone at OFA might love to have these:)
awesome
Watched the first part of Rachel tonight. She was all exercised about the fund raising numbers, the Superpacs, Mitt’s 100 mill….she compared numbers from the liberal big money guys in 2004 and this year, and generally pretty well had me in a froth too. Then, her guest was Harvey Weinstein, the movie producer who is one of PBO’s biggest supporters and contributors. She asked him WHY is Democratic fundraising this way this year? How can we combat this…….he was calm, and his answer came from his experience. He said, you can spend all the money you want, but if your product is no good, the money won’t make a difference. One example he used was the Edsel. He said more money was spent on promoting that car than any other, and it totally bombed, the public hated it. Anyone else old enough to remember the Edsel?
Then he talked about return for money, and wise spending of money, and gave some movie examples there. He also said that, frankly these big donors just aren’t worried. Romney is so bad that no amount of money will sell him. He also said that if they see the need, they will come through.
These people have their eyes and ears open to everything going on, and know what’s happening. Basically he said they know Romney is a nothing and will make sure he doesn’t win. This is all paraphrase, but the sense and essence of it. He is one of the president’s BIG supporters, and is remarkably cool and calm about the election. Rachel also asked about down ticket elections, and he is well aware of those and their importance.
Carolyn, on the one hand, that’s all good. But, if they have the ability to “come in if needed,” I wish they would come in NOW to help people who can’t afford what they need to get their voter IDs. This voter suppression stuff is what concerns me greatly!!!
I worry about the big money influence in all contests. And I think Congressional elections can be bought——too many swayed by the brainwashing of constant TV ads, even tho they say they aren’t. And now is when they are planning and buying air time. Donations are needed now, not on an emergency basis later.
I too worry about the big money influence in all contests. I think that 2010 showed the horrible influence of money, backed by hysteria. I call the 2010 election the hysteria election. I too hope these people donate NOW when buys are being made, and Mitt is bragging about his fund raising numbers…..But when Weinstein called Romney equivalent to an Edsel, that set things in a little more optimistic light for me. Also, when he talked about Sheldon Adelson thriving under PBO and almost totally bankrupt under GWB, I thought that maybe some of these guys know more than we think they do. At least I hope so, and I want the to GIVE. Republicans are used to buying anything. They just assume anyone can be bought.
Carolyn, I think Weinstein is one tough character and he doesn’t bite his tongue. He also said Addelson was on the brink of bankurptcy when Bush was president and he should be kissing President’s Obama’s ass because his policies saved his fucked up business…
Harvey is right. Think Meg Whitman and Fiorina . The money wasn’t enough!
Weinstein is also a Bundler for Obama. Rachel mentioned you can know that because the Obama campaign is transparent whereas Romney will not say who his bundlers are.
Safe travels Chips! Bring me back a souvenir magnet for the fridge please, 🙂
safe journeys Chipster! and remember Superman (who will always be Christopher Reeves in my mind) says that flying is still the safest way to travel……
I love you, Chipsticks, so you just take good care of yourself in that teeny tiny little bitty plane, and don’t worry about VC, and amk, Yardarm and Tally will keep things right around here! 😆 Come back soon, okay? 🙂
Oh, we will keep things here right, alright. Trust me.
Have been thinking about our Chips, have to wonder whether small aircraft referred to earlier might just turn out to be a Lear jet? Anyone care to comment? 😆 😆
Enjoy your trip, Ms Chips. Safe travels!
another right wing power monger, with his hands in dirty business.
Home at last!…I litterally pressed my face on the AC unit when I got home, it can’t be good but I was desperate…….crazy humid weather……
Have a safe trip Chips…..!
Have a safe flight Chips Chica! I see you are a braver soul than I ,as I don’t do small planes; it’s enough to get me to hold my breath and fly on a regular plane. We’ll try to be good in your absence – no last minute parties, or anything. Right Desertf, Hopef, Dudette, Yardarm, Amk, ….and ALL you others? 😉
ps. Thanks again for the opportunity today, Chica.
One of these day I’ll ask what Chica means lol…….
One of these days when you ask, I’ll tell you.

Tee hee hee! 😉 It’s Spanish for ‘girl child’/ ‘girl’, but I use it here as a term of affection and also because it goes nicely with ‘Chips’. I can’t remember who was the first person to use it – might have been Isonprize -and I don’t know what their intended meaning was.
Ahhhhhhhh…….thanks Vic!
Yeah, it was me. Just too tired one day to type out “Chipsticks” and it stuck. I asked her if she was cool with her nickname. She was, so it’s been Chica for me, since then.
Thought so. Man my old memory hasn’t been too shabby lately. 😆 Do you use it with the same meaning I do?
Yup! Chica, girl, girlfriend, chickadee, sistergirl, sister… all terms of affection for women who are good people to me.
I am here only to trash the place. Nothing more. Nothing less.
amk lol Chips is not on the plane yet…..wait….
So, is it about 10:25am there, and have you finished breakfast?
You’re right on both counts. Now I’ve got all day. 🙂
Actually, I am going out. So this place is safe for another 2-3 hours.
Good! I can go to sleep safe in the knowledge that you won’t be partying at TODville for at least 3 hours. Maybe you could visit a friend or relative while you are out? .;)
Have a great Saturday!
Hey that’s cool…on Twitter…..
I love that Harvey Weinstein is trending nationally based on his appearance on @Maddow on a Friday night. Yes. We are tuned in.
Following Caroline’s comment…..the video of the interview…..good stuff! I love this guy!.

Safe journey, Chips, until we meet again. The last few days you have topped your marvelous self. Thanks much.
Good night and sweet dreams to those on this side of the equator and Good morning to those who are just beginning their day.
Goodnight Chips and TOD Family. May a gentle spirit surround all of you, and may the winds of peace and love gently blow with a whisper of sweetness in your lives so others may have a peaceful journey as well. And may our president’s love, compassion, and intellect carry this nation to a better place of hope, peace, and goodness.
May God grant him wisdom, protection, and physical strength to carry out his duties with grace, truth, dignity, and love. We are so grateful for you, Mr. President. (((((((((((((( Blessings be with you tonight and always))))))))))))))) TOD Family/HZ
HZ – so good to see you online! How was your proceedure??
Have a safe flight Chips. I will implore Amk to clean up after himself while you are away. Thanks for everything! 😆

Hi Everyone,
I’m tardy to the party as usual (and I’m still a Twitter novice) but I noticed on the last thread that a few posters were trying to find ways to streamline VC’s great #canmittmatchthis twitter brigade. Anyway, while visiting the President’s page (after following Amk’s tweet above), I noticed that they have his accomplishments listed thematically. Perhaps we could devote each day of the week to a theme. See below:
The President’s Record
Monday -Education/student loan reform (combined to fit a 7 day schedule)
Tuesday – Environment
Wednesday – Equal Rights
Thursday – Health Care
Friday – Jobs and the Economy
Saturday – National Security
Sunday – Wall Street Reform
Each week we can repeat. This will help us to remain organized in our efforts as we move ———————-> FORWARD. On another note, I love it here. Thanks for all of the work that you do Chips and the phenomenal team of posters who keep us informed. I’m sure you all are about 20 posts ahead of me by now :). I hope someone sees this and I apologize in advance for any typos. After all it’s 5:13 in the Garden State and I’m on ceiling duty.
That’s a very good idea, Angela.
May be Chips puts up the subject/theme of the day in her posts and we find the relevant information to tweet.
Jobs and the Economy are job One.
4.4M jobs in 28 months equals 157K a month. More than 500K Manufacturing jobs, best since 1997.
Those who tweet. Then add #canMittbeatthat.
Done!
Thanks. I didn’t even come back to check. Thank you.
I just revisited here late, but I really like your idea, Angela. It focuses our mind and helps coordinate the message in support of the President.
How the chickens keep a steady head.
News media—–right now watching Halperin talking to Lester Holt (on Today) and they just can’t figure out how President Obama is holding on to poll leads anywhere given economic circumstances. After all, the media has allowed all manner of lies about Obama with zero pushback, zero truthtelling, a constant hammering. All that manipulative effort gone to waste? Here’s the key, the most important key of all, the only key really. People like President Obama, trust him.
The rightwing tool, Halperin was on with Alex Witt and spouting the same thing.
Funny how none of these fools ever in content and context analyze the job numbers in June, May and April. This years numbers were better than what we had in over 7 years. In 28 months, at 4.4M jobs, that is 157K monthly. Those are the facts.

Of course he had no worries about Miss Ann being diagnosed with MS …they have plenty of money for treatment….
I know a lot of people don’t like the site I linked to…but it provides citations and links to all it says in this diary.
July 7, 5:00pm. EST Anybody here? It loads WAY faster then Rise and Shine. Chica’s not around to open a new thread.
Okay, I’m here. will keep switching back and forth until some catch up. 🙂
I’m in Philadelphia where, at 6:15pm, it is 98 degrees F. BLAZIN’ HOT OUTSIDE!
It’s 110 here…in the shade. But that is AZ in the summer. All day, everyday…until Oct. I know it’s hard for you all…not used to days on end…just know, it COULD be worse:)
I’m here tnmtngirl lol….there’s too many comments in rise and shine….it takes me forever to refresh the page.
Yep. Once I refreshed it was all over the place before it stopped……a mess, for sure. 🙂 Not that I have anything earth-shattering to say, but was tired of waiting for R&S.
Well, tn, I’m out. I’m supposed to go to a party this evening. So, I’ve got some stuff to do before then.
Enjoy Christi. Keep it nice while Chica’s away! 😎 😎
wow, that should have said 5:15. Anyway it’s STILL hot. Okay, Ya’ll have fun.
You too isonprize! Have fun tonight
Okey dokey. Serena and Venus won the first set in the women’s double. On to the 2nd set. Woohoo!
The President is so right….”I’m not the roadblock to making this happen”…..too bad Wolf Blitzer is in the video.
I’d say for not being a king and for only being one man – a cog in the machine as it were – he’s done a lot of good for the country!!! Imagine how much more he would get done in a second term – with a Democratic House and Senate! We can do this.
…or better, imagine if he was a king lol………he’s done remarkably well in this hostile environment.
I say send all of Congress away on a very extended vacation to a galaxy far, far away and let him reign! 🙂
Excellent find. btw, It’s 96 here in the “mountains” of east TN.
I can only be thankful that it wasn’t another 100 degree day here (northern Illinois), although it was still low 90s. Tonight 66 and tomorrow low 80’s – thank the good Lord.
OT but—–have to share. Saw a tweet from Mia Farrow with a link to a song by Eva Cassidy, one of my all time fave singers—–have all her CD’s and have played them over and over and over. So I started listening to all her unbelievably beautiful songs and then saw a Nightline vid: The Eva Cassidy Story which I had never seen. It’s a very moving tribute to an amazingly talented singer—–gone too soon, but she could do it all.
Dotser can’t thank you enough for introducing me to this singer and her story.
I put someone on my follow list on twitter and I just saw that he’s following me back…
I don’t understand his message though.
@ChristiMtl Welcome to the holler…
I don’t know that english word so I had to check the french translation and it says something like loud whining…..I have no idea what that message means.
It’s basically like a community or a neighborhood. My parents were from the south and they said that – it’s a “welcoming” kind of word. At least, if he’s using it in the southern way and I’m sure he is.
I see, thanks 🙂
It’s a southern thing…not bad. Just what 4paws said:)
i think a ‘holler’ refers to neighbors living within the sound of your voice. it also means to yell, or call out.
I think also ‘holler’ can mean a little enclave, like a little holler in the woods, or down in a ravine, a cozy place, safe for kids to play, and peaceful. It surely means to yell or call out. Depends, I suppose on how far south in Maryland one grew up! I am a Picscataway/Accokeek girl, tho was born in Bethesda Naval.
yes, i also think it means a little ‘hollow’, like a sheltered spot in the woods or beside a stream. it’s a lovely word, and glad to have it in use here!
What Bob was trying to tell us last night? http://thinkprogress.org/security/2012/07/07/512535/syrian-regime-weakened-by-defections/
What Republicans want for citizens in the way of healthcare.
http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/07/06/512039/5-consequences-of-the-gops-bill-to-repeal-obamacare/
Ayn Rand cultists….it’s their philosophy.
Feed the rich, starve the poor
government compassion and assistance for the poor is evil and destructive.
Well not only the poor in their case, anyone who is not rich doesn’t deserve any help… ….
The Republican way…take social good away, and wreck havoc on people’s financial well being.
Serena and Venus Williams win another title. HELL YEAH!!!!!
Good for them:)
Doesn’t matter what political stripes people are…thinking people know.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/07/07/1107218/-My-conversation-w-a-Republican-Bank-President
A very astute comment from this piece:
I think the problem is to think strategically.
The ideal is what we feel we want, the honest truth is where things are truly at relative to the ideal, and to think strategically is to consider the difference and what it will really take to get there.
The banker was showing an ability to think strategically.
Tea Party Republicans are an iteration of the coalition that people like Karl Rove built over about a forty year period. The crass and cynical calculation, the strategic thinking behind it is that whatever gets the religious right going is useful. The problem with that is that this is a reinforcing echo chamber that depends on getting crazier in order to stay high on the emotional charge that mobilizes the church goers.
The more moderate, pragmatic and solutions-oriented Republicans of the Eisenhower era have to be aghast at the Frankenstein monster this has all become.
He is right, these people aren’t in it for policy goals. The are just high on emotions derived from hating Obama as a symbol of everything the don’t like from A to Z. Once he wins re-election the emotion won’t be there. The business of actually addressing real problems in a complex world will bore the Tea Party.
Evangelicals used to not be interested in worldly things, so much as storing up credit in heaven. They ought to go back to that.
Hey, df: I thank you so much for sharing this story. The Republican Bank President in the story captured the mood of thinking people, irrespective of party affiliation. This is what the holier than thou progressives fail to understand about politics in this country. The vast majority of Americans don’t like political leaders who take uncompromising extreme positions. I am glad this story was posted on the dailykos. Lets hope it will wake up many people who have been mindlessly bashing the President from the left.
new dem ad focusing on women and r-money’s plan to eliminate planned parenthood:
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/07/obama-ad-women-are-troubled-by-romneys-abortion-stance/
nice when networks run the ad inside a news story!
Hey thanks Susanne, I was looking for it earlier
isn’t this just the best place?
I’m here too, but only for a few minutes, got stuck over on R&S, had to comment you know! 🙂
welcome to the holler!
🙂
Hi, Pamela:)
df, I checked back in and was going to share what you did from dkos. Thanks for sharing. Encouraging, huh?
Gotta go back to couch. My lower back is “screaming” this afternoon. Took meds so trying to relax and hope they take affect soon!
Sorry, sweet 😦 Ice pack!! Motrin! Yes, that DK story is encouraging. I think that more and more Republicans will see that their party has left them, and the only way to fix it, is to shut them down and start from scratch. I think that it’s important to have at least 2 viable choices…now, there is only one…which works out great for me. I have never been a Republican…but..there are many good folks that are…and their party has been highjacked by lunatics. They need to get it back.
FLASHBACK: MITT ROMNEY’S HYPOCRISY AND ESSENTIAL PHONINESS
The ‘I Hate Romney’ Club
By Ana Marie Cox – Sunday, February 3, 2008
—————————————————-
To be sure, the candidates’ staffs do seem to have bonded in their dislike of Romney. “It was very common for e-mails to be flying around between the Thompson, McCain and Giuliani campaigns,” says the former Thompson staffer, “Saying, ‘No matter what happens with us, we all need to make sure it’s not him.’” The staffer says that campaigns would share opposition research on Romney and offer each other tips on how best to undermine him: “Like, ‘Hey, I saw you hit Mitt on immigration — have you thought about going after him on this issue?” In some cases, the attitude even extends to the top of the campaigns. The night of the Iowa caucuses, after getting a congratulatory call from McCain, Huckabee told the candidate, according to aides: “Now it’s your turn to kick his butt.”
.
.
But such jibes mask more substantive complaints that many of the candidates have about Romney. “What Romney has done,” says a Huckabee adviser, “he’s attacked people for positions he once held. That annoys people. And he uses his own money to do it, which rubs it in.” He’s gone after McCain on campaign finance reform (which he once supported), Huckabee on tax increases (Huckabee countered that Romney’s raised “fees” amounted to the same thing), and nearly all the candidates on immigration.

Note: Reposting this article in honor of John Boehner’s pronouncement today about the American people not falling in love with Mitt Romney. It’s not just the American people. In 2008, he was not held in high regard by his primary opponents.
The American people aren’t even falling in “like” with him, never mind love.
The beset ad that PBO’s team could make, would be all these R’s calling him out on positions that he previously held, now doesn’t. It’s different to a Republican when one of their own says it….
Not everyone is convinced that Rove’s Crossroads GPS is a “social welfare” organization. (duh)
great article–must read!
You bet, it’s a must read……..
”Corporations love the secrecy provided by Mr. Rove’s group because it protects them from scrutiny by nosy shareholders and consumers. They want a big influence on elections, but without leaving any tracks. People who give directly to political campaigns or super PACs know their donations will be public, and know that disclosure is part of participation. ”
What I don’t understand is how come Karl Rove and his people were at Romney’s retreat for 2 days??
Super PACs are not allowed to coordinate directly with candidates or political parties since they are “independent”.
What a joke!..imagine if it was the other way around?
Guess the FEC is still a paper tiger ? In India, the election commission has constitutionally given powers and no one can touch them.
I hope these guys get the full force of the Feds rained down on them….this needs to get around!
Because he knows we know, and he is right to be very afraid!
it’s so hot here. I can’t stand it. the heat index is over 100 here……whew
I know..:) Welcome to my world. In AZ, this is our hibernating season…like winter back east. We get things done early in the morning, or after the sun goes down. People hide inside for the heat of the day…and come out at night, like little vampires. The only problem for people back east is that not everyone has air conditioning. Makes things brutal. Been there, done that. Cold showers, fans, laying still….and drink LOTS of water.
If it makes you feel any better…it’s 110 here today in Phoenix. In the shade….night time temps will stay in the 90’s all night long…and tomorrow…we do it all over again. Until Oct.
It has finally cooled off here – northern Illinois. It was very hot again today but not 100 here (I think it might’ve hit that in the city), but now it has cooled off considerably. Hopefully the cool spell hits everywhere SOON.

This is trending on Twitter…..what is that language?…russian?
I wonder what’s going on,
I just checked on google…..it has to be this!
Flash floods caused by torrential rain have swept the southern Russian Krasnodar region, killing 134 people, officials say.
Dozens of people are reportedly missing, and there are fears that the death toll will rise further.
The floods, the worst there in living memory, struck at night, reportedly without warning.
How sad 😦
I think that’s Russian
there have been bad flash floods in Russia today
what is the difference between flash floods and floods?….
flash floods happen all of a sudden…more unpredictable
Ah ok….thanks rikyrah………those poor people, how horrible.
df, Thanks for reminder of ice pack. After I finish fixing my dinner and eating, I will do that. Feels a bit better–as long as I don’t bend over to do something. 🙂 I stewing squash and onion, draining it, then topping with feta cheese. Saw this on a local show earlier in the week and said, “Gotta do that.”
Also doing a chicken breast and will top it with the Philadelphia cooking creme, tomato basil flavor. YUM!
Later……I’ll let you know how it is. 🙂
I like that cooking creme…but I use another one…I know it if I see it…pretty easy, and tasty!
When you sleep, stick a pillow between your knees…takes the pressure off your back…and put a pillow behind your back. I usually sleep on the couch if my back hurts, so I can lean my back against the back of the couch, with a pillow.
On a happier note, Barney Frank and his partner got married!…..
Happy for them:)
Did the Earth change Orbits with Mercury?
Phew! It’s Hot!

Oh yes, I like it!
It’s fantastic. How come we TOD’ers didn’t think of it?
To obvious:) We’re deep thinkers:)

Obama Muy Guapo!
I read a write up of Brady’s comments and I loved it. Actually hearing it, is even more awesome. Bill Maher is funny and often points out truth but the stereotype of Black people as thugs and gangsters that he carries in his head and spews from his mouth is really ignorant. Wanting Pres. Obama’s “black side to come out and kick ass and be aggressive” is so bloody ignorant. As though that’s who all Black people are meant to be. Thuggish Uncouth Gangsters. 🙄
Ignorant times a thousand. He’s okay most of the time but, like you said, he has these stereotypes stuck in his head.
Bill Maher needs to get out and mingle with people who are not always telling him how wonderful he is. If he would come to my Freshman Composition classroom, his stereotypes would be dashed. I have a good mix of races….AA, Hispanic and Caucasian. The young AA men invariably treat me with respect, as do the young Hispanic men. The only ones who are rude and mouthy are the ill-brought up white boys. I’ve taught for a LONG time, and I always train them, so that by the end of the semester they are becoming human, but the mothers, grandmothers and aunts take care of the young AA and Hispanic men. They are a pleasure.
Do you teach high school or college (if you don’t mind my asking)? I want to teach college when I get my graduate degree. I am hoping to start at the community college and then work my way up while getting my doctorate.

Navy moves ahead on biofuels despite congressional ire
The Pentagon is pushing ahead with a $420 million effort to build refineries to make competitively priced biofuels, despite anger in Congress over the price the Navy paid for alternative fuel to test a carrier strike group this month.
The government plans provide $210 million in matching funds to help firms build three refineries, each able to produce at least 10 million gallons of biofuel a year for military jets or ships, according to documents released this week. The Navy would supply $170 million and the Energy Department $40 million.
The military’s spending on alternative fuels has drawn criticism from Republican lawmakers, with Senator Jim Inhofe charging that President Barack Obama’s priorities are “completely skewed” and Representative Mike Conaway accusing Navy Secretary Ray Mabus of “squandering precious dollars.”
Good for the Navy! Gee, wonder how much $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Inhofe gets from the oil companies??? Plenty, I bet:)
I love you, amk:) Awesome!
The Republicans are boosting they had 5k volunteers knocking on doors today, in Virginia.
5k???
OFA in Virginia better get going! You can tweet them that for me…
I doubt that #
Yup, me too.Yet another rethug lie.
It was their wet dream
Reuters picked it up!
The headline was misleading Jovie. I see why you wrote thought that was the case. Reuters was saying that a cumulative amount of volunteers were out in several states. Not just VA. See quotes from the article below.
“In Fairfax, about 120 Republicans came out in 106-degree F (41-degree C) heat on Saturday to knock on voters’ doors. Dozens staffed a telephone bank.”
“Republican party officials said volunteers were out in a dozen battleground states expected to see close contests in the November 6 election between Democratic President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.”
Republican officials said they did not have an estimate of how many people had participated in “Super Saturday” nationwide, but were sure it was in the thousands.
http://pilot.us.reuters.com/article/2012/07/07/us-usa-campaign-republicans-idUSBRE8660J420120707
This was such an obvious BS story I was curious to see how they tried to spin this thing as fact.
Let’s ignore the fact that they cannot get 1000 people to show up for a Romney rally. Let’s pretend that they had 5K who signed up for the task.
It is hot as heck in VA, MD. There is no way in hell Repubs had 5K knocking on doors in this heat.
Reuters reported it!
That is a bald faced lie. I double dog dare them to show pics.
It is hot as Hades outside. I’m talking so hot you cannot breathe. I left the mail in the mail box. Couldn’t take it. Can’t even make it to the end of the drive way. The mail will have to stay there until Monday. Kids won’t even go outside to get in the pool. One complained they felt sick. So, 5K walking around in VA for Romney?
I don’t think so. They will have to prove it.
So ? reuters just acted as a stenographer for rethugs. bfd.
can you imagine the photo op that 5K knocking on doors would provide for Willard amk? The media would be practically orgasmic in their haste to scream it from the rooftops. Those images would be all over TV, Facebook and all over the MSM sites.
Yup. The ‘librul’ media noise with ‘obama is doomed ‘cries would be deafening.
Water carriers. They lied, or took the RNC’s word for it.
and even if they did, anyone hearing a knock at the door would be suspicious, check out the window, and think, nope, not letting the cool air out for strangers.
Republicans and Democrats Work to Get Out the Vote Saturday
The Virginia Republican Party hit the ground game hard across the commonwealth to get out the vote for Super Saturday.
..not to be out done, Democrats in the valley were trying to win voters to their side in a typically conservative part of Virginia.
There’s no mention of the number of volunteers though.
OFA in Virginia better get going!? As Harvey Weinsten said yesterday, when you have a bad product, you have a bad product, even if you spend 5 billions, you still have a bad product.
I’m so confident about the debates, President Obama will crush him…
Republicans hold ‘Super Saturday’ to energize voters
Targeting 12 swing states; Obama won them all in 2008
Republican party officials said volunteers were out in a dozen battleground states expected to see close contests in the Nov. 6 election
So if that 5K is valid, it has to be 5K total in 12 states…..as nospin said, they can’t even get 1000 people to his rallies
Maybe so! I hope so. Because Virginia is very important.
PO is going to win VA and Maryland. That is just a fact.
Obviously we are taking nothing for granted and are still going to work hard for every vote but PO will win.
The projected volunteer count cited was 120 in Virginia (which would mean it was most likely 2/3rds of that amount if we wanted to be generous) and the Republicans admitted they did not have an estimate of the total numbers statewide but they were sure it would be at least thousands.
I don’t understand why they lie when all we have to do is google. I don’t get it.
What a difference a year and vast amounts of self-determination and courage (and our President Obama) make ….

Many friends voted today 🙂
I am so happy and proud for them:)
It’s an amazing day, df. And, their spirit is indomitable as exemplified in the 2nd paragraph of that NYTimes report. Many of us have been conversing today about just what the situation was on 7 July 2011 – BIG DIFFERENCE!!! 🙂
i see another General has defected in Syria. Is that what you were showing us last night? Lots of his military have left him….
Yes, df, the defections are now happening at a rapidly accelerating rate … 5-6 July was the ‘tipping point’ as we anticipated two weeks ago.
And, cool tweet re: Libya
Wonder how our Chips is doing/
This freaking calendar is bee~yoo~tu~FUL! it downloaded in a nano second to iPad, and is now a permanent fixture in bookmarks! OFA is where it’s all happening! Wowed! 😆

Take about 6 months to get going!
darn…why so long?

Not as bad as I thought-
PI ANALYSIS … PRO-ROMNEY SUPER PAC DOMINATES END OF JUNE: The pro-Romney super PAC Restore our Future spent nearly $4 million more than the pro-Barack Obama super PAC Priorities USA, a PI analysis of federal independent expenditure data between June 15 and July 5 indicates. The super PAC, run by former Romney aides, easily outpaced all others by the end of June after spending little in the first half of the month.
Here’s the run-down on the top 10 outside political groups making independent expenditures, which by definition overtly support the election or defeat of a political candidate:
(1) Restore our Future: $7.3 million, all in opposition to Obama.
(2) Priorities USA Action: $3.8 million, all in opposition to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
(3) Majority PAC: $966,017, all in support of Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and Senate candidate Tim Kaine (Va.).
(4) American Crossroads: $935,047, mostly in opposition to Obama and Democratic Senate candidates Kaine, Shelley Berkley (Nev.) and Bob Kerrey (Neb.) and in support of Republican Senate candidate Heather Wilson (N.M.)
(5) Service Employees International Union PEA-Federal: $787,723, all in support of Obama and other Democrats.
(6) Club for Growth Action / PAC: $710,491 on several congressional races.
(7) Service Employees International Union Committee on Political Education: 607,368, all in opposition to Romney and in support of Obama.
(8) League of Conservative Voters Inc.: $581,504, primarily in opposition to Heather Wilson (N.M.) and Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.)
(9) FreedomWorks for America: $233,863, mostly in opposition to Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah)
(10) Florida Freedom PAC: $216,767, all in support of Obama.

Drudge Promotes Story From Conspiracy Website Claiming Obama Plans To Murder Conservative Journalists
By Ali Gharib on Jul 6, 2012 at 2:44 pm
The website Drudge Report, an aggregator that sends a massive amount of web traffic to stories linked on its pages, posted a report from the 9/11 Truther website InfoWars in which two of the nation’s leading right-wing conspiracy theorists Alex Jones with Joseph Farah discuss their paranoia about being attacked by the Obama administration.
In the interview, Farah said he saw a drone over his property in Northern Virginia and suggested that the Obama administration was targeting him. Here’s a screen capture of the Drudge link, with the words “Spy Drone Buzzes Journalist’s Secluded Home…” highlighted in red:
Paranoid wack job said he saw a drone fly over his house and that PBO wants to kill him. Oh Lord.

very important perspective here. thanks df.
I just saw a Stealth Drone over head, the same one that took pictures of Bin laden.
Should I expect SEAL Team 6 sometime soon?
LOL!
Awesome!
Beautiful!!! Thanks Jovie!
A ha. There you are. I thought you went partying with that pilot after that parachute jump.
No partying at all amk, the fella is still unwrapping my parachute from around his neck.
Right then, what’s your prediction for Fedex v Moany?
So you made him jump too ? wimmin.
Fedex in straight sets.
😆 Oi, that was a boy driver on my plane, if there were wimmin in charge I wouldn’t have had to choke on my choccie chip.
Hmm, straight sets? I reckoned that too, but then my sister freaked me out tonight by telling me she had a hunch Moany would win – and I should point out, my sister has a 100% superior sporty predicty rate than me. Worried now.
Relaaaax. 100% of 0 is still 0.
moany is a choker.
“100% of 0 is still 0.”
Your cruelty knows no bounds. 🙂
Just worried Lendl has de-choked Moany, having successfully de-choked in his own career. He’s looked an entirely different kettle of tennis fish this Wimbledon, methinks, way more positive and aggressive. Still, if Fedex plays like he did in the semis methinks your prediction might be accurate-ish – and my sister’s as accurate as mine.
My doctor daughter is a true blue lover of fedex. You should hear some of her curses against rafa and joker. Moany better not join that curse list. I am thinking of his own well-being, of course.
She curses Rafa?!?! Rafa The Almighty?? Noooooooooooooo!!
Hey, what can I say ? She prefers sublime to six-packs.
Oi, what about sublime + six-pack = Rafa?
Yiippee! Chips has returned safely and she found us on This and That. 🙂 Happy you’re back safely. Now I’m going to bed.
Thank you tnmtngirl!!! Sleep soundly, see you tomorrow 😉
{{{ CC}}} Welcome back, safe & sound! Checking, are you ‘sound’?
Thank you kindly VC! Sound? Heck, I haven’t been sound since I was born 😕
Should I touch that one, I wonder? Hmmm. Maybe I’ll ask instead, did you land on your feet or your head? I was trying to determine which from your answers to my siblings, but haven’t come to a decision yet. At any rate, you are still smiling so I’ll conclude that no lasting damage was done from sitting on the pilot’s lap. Nice to have you back close enough to be easily harassed! 😉
VC, it was way worse than that, I landed on my choccie chip cookie 😥
No kidding! That’s better than on your head though, because it would have been a softer landing. 😛 /runnig to hide on the more recent thread/
