GM, all. VC, yesterday you asked about if during naturalization, if one had to renounce the citizenship of their native country, and the answer is yes. I got my US citizenship August 2011 and the judge told us that we all had to and it was over 3200 of us in total and from every country/continent, though gosh the Brazilians were like 700 of the total. Our passports were not surrendered, but the judge said we didnt have to and remember each passport is the property of the issuing country. So still scratching my head how some claim dual citizenship. Maybe since if one is born in a foreign country, then they are also citizens of that country automatically. who knows?

Congrats on being able to vote for Mr. President this time around, Asher 😆 and thanks for answering by sharing your experience. There goes that flash idea of mine to have my father file for me, because, not intending to be offensive, there is no way I want to surrender my current citizenship. Well,…. maybe if I meet Mr. Right when I’m down south, …and we decide to get married right away, …and he can guarantee that I’ll have my citizenship in time to vote on November 6, …and he can guarantee that he’ll be able to support me in the style in which I dream of being accustomed …. then I’d have to rethink my position on relinquishing citizenship here. We’ll see. 😀

I know, VC. I cant wait to vote for my President. I made my mum lol by telling her that if it was possible, I would stay in line overnight just to be the first person to cast my vote. Though I wished I along with all those people I sworn in with, lived in swing states coz Mass. will obviously go for him, but oh well, I am soooooooo excited. Oh, Vc, you are a riot. Lets pray for the mister right, so you can vote. And whats good these days is that the process is super fast, like 4 months.

I am a dual citizen. Some countries like my native country have agreements with US govt on this issue. The other country has to determine what rights you may have in that country. When I visit my native country I present both my US passport and the dual citizen card of that country thus eliminating my need for a visa

That has been my experience too Asher in Boston. I was attended a few naturalization ceremonies in 2012 and at everyone they had to renounce the citizenship of their native county.

        July 5, 2012 at 8:11 am

And I will keep emailing the networks like CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, TeaNN, and asking them why haven’t Mitt Romney release his tax returns? Everyday it seem they had a story about the birthers and President Obama birth certificate, and they knew these birthers (Trump) were lying but they had him on their show talking. Well we know it’s true that Mitt Romney hasn’t release his tax returns, so let the news show find out why he hasn’t.

          July 5, 2012 at 8:46 am

The things the media focuses on just amazes me. Why are they not hammering Romney for his lies, not releasing his full tax returns, not being honest about his wealth, etc.? Instead, they focus on whether ObamaCare(s) is a tax or a penalty over and over, Donald Trump and his birther nonsense, the President’s vacations, etc. Are there no real journalists anymore on the news programs? Honestly, these people are a big part of the reason we have to put up with the birther stuff and all these other conspiracy theories.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Buoyed by a victory over healthcare reform but stung by poor economic data, President Barack Obama will try to rev up his re-election campaign on Thursday with a bus tour designed to appeal to struggling blue-collar workers in key battleground states.

Obama will spend two days visiting cities in Ohio and Pennsylvania, states that could prove critical to his ability to garner the number of electoral votes needed to beat Republican Mitt Romney in the November 6 election.

The president, a Democrat, is launching his first bus tour of the 2012 campaign against a backdrop of mixed poll numbers, fundraising challenges, and outside threats to an economy that could derail his chances of re-election.

An average of polls by RealClearPolitics shows the president ahead of his Republican rival by a tight 2.6 percentage points in Ohio and nationwide.

Obama is polling particularly well with women and Hispanics across the country, but working-class men are up for grabs. The Ohio trip seemed aimed at least in part at shoring up support in that demographic.

    • July 5, 2012 at 10:37 am

I was hoping it would be an indoor event with AC because sweltering heat forecast there—in the high 90’s. They are expecting 500-700 and will have watering stations and designated cooling off spots.

Up and at ’em Os!!!! Another hot and hotter day in TODdie town. I’m watching the sit ins for the Joke show and it’s refreshing to see and hear a conversation on a adult level. SE is stating her side and opinion, but without bias. I’m not at the point where other people’s opinions bother me. I welcome hearing what they have to say. My beef is at the network level where they choose to have more repubs and conservatives invited to these shows over a long period of time. Also, the lack of journalistic integrity feeds the beast of always needing controversy. That’s where media bombs come in. We have the power to change the pundit culture whose only motivator is the bottom line. Media bombs include advertisers of the shows that bother.

My political take today is that we need to keep our eyes on the electoral vote map. That’s the most important number. PBO has many paths to get well beyond the 270 needed to clinch it. Pittiful has only one, win each of the swing states. That’s not likely to happen as we see his campaign implode on a daily basis.

  20. July 5, 2012 at 8:28 am

Aw, the Wall St Journal isn’t happy with their man –

If Mitt Romney loses his run for the White House, a turning point will have been his decision Monday to absolve President Obama of raising taxes on the middle class. He is managing to turn the only possible silver lining in Chief Justice John Roberts’s ObamaCare salvage operation—that the mandate to buy insurance or pay a penalty is really a tax—into a second political defeat.

…..Meanwhile, the Obama campaign is assailing Mr. Romney as an out-of-touch rich man, and the rich man obliged by vacationing this week at his lake-side home with a jet-ski cameo…..

    Eleanor Clift:

Pelosi put everything on the line to push for passage of the ACA.

She had confronted Rahm Emanuel, then the White House chief of staff, who was urging President Obama to adopt a scaled-back version that would cover only children. She dubbed it “Kiddie Care,” likening it to the “eensy, weensy spider, teeny tiny,” a legislative effort so small it wasn’t worth her bother.

Emanuel told the Chicago Tribune after the vote that he had advised the president about the political cost of doing this. “And thank God for the country, he didn’t listen to me.”

When we were there a month ago, they upgraded us to a 2 bdrm., 2 BATH! unit—-room to spread out, our own bathrooms!!! That’s the secret to a long life and marital bliss—-separate bathrooms! Anyhoo, we have been amusing ourselves pretending that President Obama is staying there (he’s not, but whatever) and wondering if he has as much influence and would also be upgraded. (we’re easily amused) And while I’m babbling, I always like staying there because I have access to the Toledo Blade, still a great newspaper. “I feel like Mitt’s got the answers to turn this country around,” she continued. “He’s the one that’s got to bring back hope for this country, which is what they ran on last time. But the truth is, this is the one that has the hope for the – for America.”

If Mitt has the answers, then why isn’t he telling us what they are? All he says is the equivalent of, “Obama bad, me good.” He says he’ll just do the opposite of what Pres. Obama has done but he doesn’t say how. How is he going to put Americans back to work? Ship them to China? The only thing people can hope for in a Romney presidency is that they DON’T get shipped to China.

As for Ann Romney…She is a shrill woman who thinks it is okay for women not to get the kind of care she received for breast cancer or the kind of care she receives now for MS. Her husband is going to try and get rid of the law that requires insurers cover preventative health care – mammograms and other screenings. It was a mammogram that found HER cancer. Why would she deny that to other women?

She’s just as full of contempt for the majority of Americans as her husband is.

In a news headline this morning I saw an article title hinting that Ann Romney is saying there may be a woman chosen for VP. I have continually thought Condaleeza Rice (regardless of her saying she will not run) might be chosen. She would fit many categories foreign policy, female and Black. The hope being to peel away voters from PBO in Mitt’s weak areas. Some have said Mitt would not choose her due to her closeness to the Bush term, but most all of his advisers are from GW.
He is working with a female governor from the NE now and there is one from the SW that also fits the Hispanic category.
Hope the woman of America do not forget the policy war against women in the GOP.

I don’t see a problem with that. Ann is quite naturally sticking up for her guy. Having said that the Team Obama must be very effective if she’s complaining about their strategy. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s just echoing what Mitt has been telling her.

MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) – The City of Maumee is getting ready to host a visit on Thursday from President Obama at the historic Wolcott House Museum, in hopes of history repeating itself in Ohio this November with voters re-electing the President.

“We’re so excited and honored the President selected Maumee to visit,” says Mayor Tim Wagener.

The President’s Betting on America bus tour is making numerous stops in Ohio, to focus on efforts to get the national economy back on track.

“If it wasn’t for the auto rescue effort our area would be facing unemployment in the range of 30 percent, not 7.6 percent currently in Lucas County,” says Wagener.

“The local auto suppliers were saved,” says Maumee Councilman John Boellner. …

Up to 700 people are expected to attend Thursday’s campaign visit by President Obama. There are no tickets left for the event, which is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. http://www.toledonewsnow.com/story/18946246/maumee-prepares-for-presidential-visit

Congressional Republicans on Thursday dispatched some of their best and brightest to the Supreme Court in heady anticipation of the GOP triumph that never came.

But when Chief Justice Roberts announced the decision upholding the Affordable Care Act, Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch “folded his arms across his chest, his mouth slightly agape.” His slack-jawed response was altogether fitting.

After all, the same Orrin Hatch who now describes so-called Obamacare as unconstitutional and “an awful piece of crap” in 1993 co-sponsored legislation with an individual mandate at its center.

And as it turns out, while he and his GOP colleagues are now protesting how the Affordable Care Act is funded, Hatch acknowledged that when President Bush signed the $400 billion Medicare prescription drug program into law, “It was standard practice not to pay for things.”

Also, why can’t Romney give a damned interview without his wife? It makes him look weak, what about those “optics?”

I just watched a very informative video on Youtube from 2010. A CBS report Banking: A Crack In the Swiss Vault .

Brad Birkenfeld is an American banker who formerly worked for UBS, Switzerland’s largest bank.

He is the first person to expose what has become a multi-billion dollar international tax fraud scandal over Swiss private banking. Despite his unprecedented, extensive and voluntary cooperation, and registering as an IRS whistleblower, Birkenfeld is the only person sentenced to prison in the US as a result of the scandal.

That is awful…..I totally disagree with this Admin on their whistleblower treatment.

I can’t believe he is getting away with not providing his tax returns….wow

I saw that yesterday and just about screamed. I hope those guards find work somewhere that values what they do. This was ridiculous. So much for “outsourcing” WTH were they thinking!!

I read that. Thank goodness these young men did the right thing rather than focus on “policy.”

Good morning, everybody! I know there are some prayerful folks in here, so I come seeking your loving prayers. I just got a call from a recruiter about a 1 year contract with a financial institution as a project analyst. It would be a great opportunity for me. Please pray that I get it! Please!

An Associated Press report says a once-invisible offshore company has helped bolster Romney’s wealth over the years even though it did not appear on his state or federal financial reports for 15 years.

I see Jindal and Pawlenty are stalking President Obama again, trying to preempt his message by saying that Obama is bad, bad, bad. Willard’s campaign is the creepiest campaign ever, just following Obama around making faces at him, sticking their tongues out and making farting noises.

All loving Christians are invited to celebrate the word of God at Rev. William Collier’s annual conference — that is, as long and they are white.

Collier’s Alabama town is outraged over the flyer for his pastors’ conference, which specifies “All White Christians Invited.” The town’s mayor is renouncing the Reverend, saying that such hate speech is unwelcome in the town. But Collier defended the flyer this week, saying that he isn’t a racist — just that “the white race is God’s chosen people”:
