            😆

Really, Jackie, it’s like there are two distinct levels of campaigning this time around, one of them far, far above the other, repeatedly addressing issues that are of vital importance to average citizens. More than a passing reference to the other level that doesn’t know from one day to the next how to even ‘name’ issues is a gross waste of time IMO. I feel committed to trying to get a positive word or two out each day (on Twitter) about the real guys while not wasting too much of my oxygen on those others. I confess though that sometimes it’s really, really hard to restrain my snark. 😉 It’s my personal challenge for the next month. 🙄 😀

I like Tamron but I hate the Today Show. I wonder if this means she won’t have her afternoon show on MSNBC?

      • July 4, 2012 at 2:22 pm

I don’t watch either show. I’m just glad that she’s movin’ on up. Other folks are getting their own shows and she’s been in the game longer. Time for her to move on and up if she wants.

        • 57 cognachas4paws
          July 4, 2012 at 3:56 pm

She is deserving of a move up, that’s for certain. I enjoy her show and she doesn’t put up with any crap. I enjoyed when she cut that one guy’s mic off completely (I think he was with the Washington Times) because all he was doing was repeating talking points over and over and not answering her question.

Okay, I have to admit… before Pres. Obama, I had no idea, NO IDEA, that you could serve in the United States Armed Forces and NOT be a US citizen. Wow. I figured you just had to be a citizen to serve,

    • 59 Bill

I think one has to be a citizen to be an officer but not enlisted.

      • 60 Nena20409
        July 4, 2012 at 3:08 pm

Not true. You can serve in the military without being a citizen. But one can’t serve as an FBI, CIA, and intelligent officer without being a citizen. A friend of the finally served while NOT a citizen, but was not allowed to serve as an intel agent.

        • 61 Bill
          July 4, 2012 at 3:53 pm

As I said a non-citizen may serve as an enlisted member of the armed services but not an officer.

The President’s remarks about our immigrant heritage stands in stark contrast to the way the GOP views immigrants in this country – whether documented or undocumented. President Obama’s positive message to these new citizens will hopefully rub off on the GOP (but I won’t hold my breath).

Ol’ Arlen needs to go somewhere and sit down. SERIOUSLY. Arlen, please sit down. If it wasn’t for you, we would have Admiral Sestak instead of Pat Toomey as a senator from Pennsylvania. SIT DOWN AND SHUT IT UP.

      • 66 utaustinliberal
        July 4, 2012 at 4:19 pm

Actually, I don’t agree you’d have had Sestak. The votes weren’t there. They were there for Toomey. Sestak was an annoying punk during the race and kept leaking crap and insinuating that Pres. Obama and people around Pres. Obama tried to bribe him to leave the primary and promised him a very top level administration gig. Then when confronted by the media, he played coy but still kept insinuating that Pres. Obama and his folks were playing dirty politics.

I agree with Senator Specter. Justice Roberts did the right thing upholding the Affordable Care Act but he didn’t accept the Solicitor General’s argument, I think that is what Senator Specter is referring to.

    July 4, 2012 at 2:22 pm

Every ‘once in a blue moon’ when I check my email I find something worth sharing. Here is today’s :-

Herberg a 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o’clock, with his hair fashionably combed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready.

As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on his window. ‘I love it,’ he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.

‘Mr. Jones, you haven’t seen the room yet; just wait.’
‘That doesn’t have anything to do with it,’ he replied. ‘Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn’t depend on how the furniture is arranged … it’s how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it. It’s a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do. Each day is a gift, and as long as I wake up, I’ll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I’ve stored away just for this time in my life. Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw from what you’ve put in.

    ————————————————
Five simple rules to be happy:

    1. Free your heart from hatred.

    2. Free your mind from worries.

    3. Live simply.

    4. Give more.

    5. Expect less.

    ———————————————–
I left out the share with family & friends part, figuring you can make that decision all on your own. 😉 😉

Happy 4th everyone. FYI-the Lance Cpl’s service ribbons indicate that he has been in some deep do-do. We have a lot of so called citizens who would never do what this kid has done. If he goes thru AZ they’re gonna want to see his papers. KISS MY ASS!

    • 74 isonprize
      July 4, 2012 at 2:58 pm

Yardarm, that’s what amazes me. These kids (yes, I called them kids because they ALL look to be in their 20s to me) aren’t even US citizens and they defend this country. Like I stated upthread, I had no idea that you could serve in the US Armed Forces and not be a citizen. This is definitely one thing that I have learned from Pres. Obama. There are plenty of folks, Re-thugs and Dems alike, who would not do what these soldiers and sailors have done.

It shouldn’t be a surprise if you think about it. America as well as most Western European countries have always taken foreigners into the military. This goes back to the middle ages. It also served to keep the elite from getting their hands dirty.

I don’t understand why both of you are so surprised. Willard was only practising his common touch. More that those three words would have shown him to be ‘out of touch’. He knew what it was he drank (lemon), how it was prepared (wet) AND he patted the maker on the back. Think how proud the person who prepared that would have felt to know the president-wannabe thought they had done a good job! What more do you liberals want??!!!

You know, I seem to remember not too long ago, the Feds had an amnesty window for people that hid money overseas to avoid paying taxes. They would owe their taxes, but they wouldn’t be charged the penalty for tax evasion. And let’s not sugar coat this…THIS IS TAX EVASION! People get thrown IN JAIL for this. So even with that, and I’m certain that Mittens has legions of lawyers and accountants….that he didn’t see fit to be honest about his offshore money and pay up? This man wants our trust. He wants to be President…and has wanted to for years. Mitt isn’t JUST a liar, he’s a crook! Go suck down your Lemon. Wet. Good. You POS. You will NEVER step foot in that highest office!

One of the Directors of Stericycle beginning in 1991 was Patrick F. Graham. Graham it turns out was one of the co-founders of Bain & Company, Inc. That’s the management consulting ‘Bain’ where Romney originally worked and from which the private equity ‘Bain’ was launched by Romney. They’re personal friends. Graham actually flew to Florida way back when to get Romney’s dad’s support for Mitt to join Bain. And Graham’s frequently referred to as Romney’s mentor.

There’s good news from the front in one of our internecine economic and political battles: the war between the generations.

The news is that the younger generation is beginning to see through the propaganda.

For years now, efforts to set young against old have been linchpins in campaigns to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits and turn those programs over to the private sector. The basic tactic is to portray those programs as giveaways to undeserving seniors that rip off the young; the goal is to turn the ostensibly dispossessed young into an effective political counterweight to reform-resistant elderly.

“Generational conflict messaging is incredibly potent right now,” observes Alex Lawson, 32, executive director of the Washington advocacy group Social Security Works. The time is ripe, he indicated, for young activists to push back against this narrative.

“Wall Street and everyone who crashed the world economy has a really strong incentive to get young folks who are struggling to blame older folks who are likewise struggling, and no one will notice that the people pointing their fingers are the real culprits,” Lawson told me. “But once you get the truth out, young folks are well suited to figure out that the young and the old need to work together for the entire system.”

The weather is not cooperating on certain parts of the East coast – including Washington DC where our President is having his celebrations:

// THUNDERSTORMS TO DEVELOP ACROSS MUCH OF MARYLAND… THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA… EASTERN WEST VIRGINIA… MARYLAND PORTION OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY AND NORTHERN AND CENTRAL VIRGINIA THIS FOURTH OF JULY AFTERNOON AND EVENING…

AT 310 PM EDT… SKIES ARE BEGINNING TO CLOUD UP AS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS START TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE CHARLOTTESVILLE… WASHINGTON… CUMBERLAND… AND BALTIMORE REGION. THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL BECOME MORE NUMEROUS BETWEEN 400 PM AND 600 PM AND CONTINUE THROUGH MID EVENING. A FEW THUNDERSTORMS MAY BECOME SEVERE WITH DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AND LARGE HAIL… ALONG WITH FREQUENT CLOUD-TO-GROUND LIGHTNING.

IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT AS THESE STORMS INCREASE IN COVERAGE LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING… THE POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER WILL ALSO INCREASE. RESIDENTS AND VISITORS TO THE REGION SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION IF SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCHES AND WARNINGS ARE ISSUED LATER TODAY. THE SAFEST PLACE TO BE DURING THUNDERSTORMS IS AN INTERIOR ROOM OR BASEMENT OF A STURDY BUILDING. //

    Food Stamps???

Figuring out The Politics on this is a tough one, putting aside the wrong stereotypes, I think he hates food stamps and is using the President for His disdain! I think…
Still, it is a weak attack that keeps getting repeated by the Right, so it must get their base ginned up. But, their Base is already ginned up and can only vote once. What about the other 70% of the Country?
