And yes I am finally home… Waiting for the road service truck to see if the car problem is battery or starter. Cross fingers for battery, okay? ;(

          July 4, 2012 at 10:30 pm

The bedtime story has a happy ending: the battery was drained, mysterious, but it is not old, nor does it need replacing. The starter is fine, the alternator is fine. So, they hooked up a battery charger, which I must plug in at 9:00pm, and unplug when I wake up at 5:00am. They will have a service vehicle here at 7:00, to pick up the charger and test the battery one more time before leave for work. I’m telling you: the $55.00 per year membership to AAA is the best value for money ANYWHERE! also found out I have been a member for 20 years… Boy, that went by fast! 😆 Happy 4th, and goodnight….

It might take 2 to catch her and bell her, but shhh… If they use a bag of cheesy puffs, she might come purring along, not realizing it’s a set up! 😆 (that would do it for me…)

          • 22 vcprezofan2
            July 4, 2012 at 10:35 pm

Sounds like a plan. Since I’m supplying the bell, you can be responsible for the cheesy puffs – do try not to eat them. Once everything is ready we can each present our plan to one of the Prouds. Let’s rendez-vous once you’ve done your part.

Good night, sleep tight. I suspect I won’t last much longer as I’m quite sleepy. We’ll see.

It’s beginning to seem like it’s time I look for some new friends. Obama thanks military at July Fourth celebrationAssociated Press (STACY A. ANDERSON) 07/04/2012 19:25

President Barack Obama is marking the Fourth of July by thanking service members and their families, who he said “represent what is best in America.”

The president, accompanied by first lady Michelle Obama, hosted a barbecue and concert Wednesday for the families on the White House South Lawn.

Obama saluted “this generation of heroes” for their service and sacrifice to defend American freedoms, specifically thanking them for bringing Osama bin Laden to justice and working to get out of Afghanistan.

He said the nation “will always be there for you, just as you’ve been there for us.” He said it was his promise, and America’s promise.

Afterward, the Obamas shook hands and posed for pictures with eager visitors. The U.S. Marine Band and country singer Brad Paisley performed.

  29. July 4, 2012 at 9:27 pm

The Obama campaign is billing it as a “Betting on America” bus tour in which the president will discuss “saving the auto industry, investing in manufacturing and bringing jobs back to America.”
Also expect to hear more presidential criticism of Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his stewardship of the private-equity firm Bain Capital. In speeches and television ads, Obama has ripped Bain for investing in companies that either laid off workers or shut down operations completely.
New Obama ads airing in Ohio, Pennsylvania and elsewhere link Romney to outsourcing, a major worry for decades in the heavily industrial areas the president will be visiting.

    • July 4, 2012 at 10:32 pm

The writer of this article is just as clueless as Romney. How exactly do you sale a policy that hasn’t worked in thirty years, and a heath care policy that you urged the President to adopt, but now want to abandon because it’s politically expedient. Curious minds want to know Mr. Romney.

    • July 5, 2012 at 12:55 am

Romney’s message is worse than Kerry’s in ’04. He has failed to get out in front of major issues that could legitimately cripple his campaign – namely healthcare & Bain. If I was a Republican, I would be frantic right now because the summer, believe it or not, is when Americans start forming an opinion on the challenger (I won’t say incumbent, since he’s had four-plus years to do that). Romney has been absolutely brutal in his response to Supreme Court & Bain. Whoever’s handling his campaign should be fired immediately. They’re doing it wrong.

“Just put yourself in my hands for two years,” said the shrink. “Come to me three times a week, and I’ll cure your fears.”

    “How much do you charge?”

    “A hundred dollars per visit.”

“I’ll sleep on it,” said Fred.

Six months later the doctor met Fred on the street. “Why didn’t you ever come to see me again?” asked the psychiatrist.

“…. private equity is one channel for this secrecy-shrouded foreign money to enter the United States, and a filing for Mitt Romney’s first $37 million Bain Capital Fund, of 1984, provides a rare window into this. One foreign investor, of $2 million, was the newspaper tycoon, tax evader, and fraudster Robert Maxwell, who fell from his yacht, and drowned, off of the Canary Islands in 1991 in strange circumstances, after looting his company’s pension fund. The Bain filing also names Eduardo Poma, a member of one of the “14 families” oligarchy that has controlled most of El Salvador’s wealth for decades; oddly, Poma is listed as sharing a Miami address with two anonymous companies that invested $1.5 million between them. The filings also show a Geneva-based trustee overseeing a trust that invested $2.5 million, a Bahamas corporation that put in $3 million, and three corporations in the tax haven of Panama, historically a favored destination for Latin-American dirty money—“one of the filthiest money-laundering sinks in the world,” as a U.S. Customs official once put it. …..

…. Many Americans might react with a shrug to the idea of shady foreign money such as Robert Maxwell’s being invested here. But, says Rebecca Wilkins, of the Washington, D.C.–based nonprofit Citizens for Tax Justice, “It is shocking that a presidential candidate should think that is O.K.””

No, we are not reacting with a shrug … we want #BainMitt fully exposed ….

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has vetoed voter ID bills that his fellow Republicans call an attempt to crack down on voter fraud, and critics characterize as a move to disenfranchise minority groups.

Snyder on Tuesday rejected H.B. 5061 and S.B. 803 — both sponsored by Republican members of the Michigan Legislature – which would have required voters to prove U.S. citizenship in order to receive a ballot and a photo ID to pick up an absentee ballot.

Tuesday’s vetoes signaled Snyder parting ways with the Republican Party’s ongoing efforts to enact voter ID laws, which critics say are an effort to discriminate against minority voters who have historically supported Democratic candidates.

What’s the real story here ? Some kinda bait and switch in Obama state MI and then do the real voter disenfranchisement in swing states like PA, OH and FL ?

Hi all – happy 4th! Re the Romney tax stuff : his spokeswoman always says stuff like ‘ the Governor has complied with every law ‘ … our line of attack must be ‘since we haven’t seen the returns we don’t know if this is true’ and keep hammering this home. Let’s demand of them AND the press to PROVE their claims. We wanna see those returns – we wanna know if he bet against the US dollar with his swiss accounts, we wanna know if he was ‘free riding’ on the US economy by not paying his fair share. President Obama pulled a fast one on Karl Rove and the National Review, who claimed he was in Paris raising cash on July 4th, when he was, in fact, doing what he does every year — throwing a party for our troops on the South Lawn of the White House.

President Obama and the First Lady had their annual July 4th barbeque for our service members and Obama spoke a few words, ending on a consistent note of being there for our troops as they have been there for us, saying, “And as long as I have the honor of being your Commander-in-Chief, I want you all — our men and women in uniform, our veterans and their families — to know this: America will always remember. We will always be there for you, just as you’ve been there for us.”

Look, it’s even on video! Watch here:

Gosh, that man is amazing, isn’t he? He showed up right where his itinerary said he would be — on the South Lawn of the White House, giving a party for our troops – you know, sorta patriotic and all on Independence Day — or, as conservatives like to say, “spending July 4th in Paris.”

Gee, the South Lawn doesn’t look like Paris. I guess all of those troops don’t exist either…

Happy Independence Day, from all of us here at Evil Liberal Socialism Headquarters – aka, PoliticusUSA.

Hope you all had a happy fourth! Watched the entire John Adams series on HBO today…so good. Also, here’s a wonderful quote from PBO. (I’m thinking of posting one of these a day to lift our spirits)

“Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it’s not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won’t. it’s whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.”

Hello to anyone who’s still here. Got back from the Macys fireworks about 20 minutes ago and saw The Amazing Spider Man movie. Movie was very good. Did not regret spending $13.50 on it. Fireworks were cool too. Walked with hundreds of people over to the Hudson – or as close to it as possible. Everyone was pleasant and well behaved thank goodness. Very good view of those fireworks too.

Did anyone notice TeaNN didn’t cover any of the 4th of July celebration for the troops at the White House yesterday? As I have said before they have long lost any respect I had for it. It has sunk to low, it isn’t worth watching. Were they at the parade with Mitt?

Enough with TeaNN, any info on when President Obama leave the White House for his bus tour? Will he be starting the tour in Ohio first? And what time will his first event be? I’m trying to get all the info so I don’t miss anything.

That is a great tweet. I keep telling people teachers, firefighters, the poor, the unemployed, etc., are not the enemy and we need to stop treating them that way. They aren’t the ones to blame for the economy – nor are undocumented immigrants. It’s just ridiculous and the right uses this to demonize people who need the most help. Makes me sick.

        July 5, 2012 at 7:38 am

Yes, it’s well past the time when this demonizing has to end. We have to push back hard whenever we hear this crap.

I can’t help but feel sorry for those receiving assistance – sorry for their situation and sorry for the way they are treated and viewed by the Fright Wing. People, for the most part, do not want to be on assistance; they get help because they have to feed their family, feed their children. If the GOP cares so much for life, why do they not want to help children? They don’t care about them after they’re born. Makes me sad. Plus a lot of families receiving assistance now are military. I thought the GOP was supposed to care about our fighting men and women and their families? That’s what they keep saying but I guess they only care about them while they are fighting; after they come home, they’re just more “freeloaders” (according to the GOP).

These are all excellent tweets by Chris Cook! Thank you so much, 57andfemale, for sharing them with us. I especially like this one the most for its currency:

“Old People Didn’t Run Up the Deficit. Hungry Children Didn’t Run Up The Deficit. GOP Wars, Bush Tax Cuts & Corp Welfare Ran Up The Deficit.”

Of course the quote from John Kenneth Galbraith beautifully sums up the current state of the Republican party. I seriously wonder about the morality of the people who claim to be followers of Jesus the Christ, but yet embrace the mantra of selfishness preached by the Republican party.

        July 5, 2012 at 7:03 am

I thought they were excellent and worth sharing.
Your point about the misuse of Christianity and Jesus — this started with the emergence of the Christian Right in the 70’s, where if you had wealth it meant God ‘liked’ you and it morphed into also believing that if you were poor you were some kind of lowlife in the eyes of Jesus. Check out Frank Schaeffer on the blogroll — he’s an expert on this stuff since he was raised in this b.s.

The ability to change how people think in America started with the Christian Right — it never started with actual conservatives and certainly not the Republican party. It started as a concerted effort to change the thinking patterns of Americans about what is patriotic, what is ‘graced’ by God and THEN they started to run for public office.

What the Republicans/Christian Right did brilliantly was start with how Americans thought and changed it first, and then they took over government. they started by getting strongholds in school systems where they could rewrite history. A country that as late as the Clinton era had a belief that taxes paid for the common good of the nation — they changed people into believing all taxes are evil.

Democrats and progressives still think they have the right ideas and spend more time laughing at the rest of the country for believing the nonsense Republicans believe than actually addressing the way Americans view their country now and fixing it. I don’t understand why Democrats still think we all understand the New Deal and the good it did when Republicans have co-opted the meaning of freedom and patriotism.

Why DWS or the Obama campaign hasn’t hired the girl from the Winning Words Project or George Lakoff astounds me — people who understand how to reclaim the words and beliefs we need.

PBO is trying but he can’t accomplish it on his own when he doesn’t even get respectable news coverage like every other President in history has received. But Dem’s are still stuck in their same mindset and have no clue how to reclaim the American narrative.

the economist suggests america take health care reform a step further: federalize medicaid. because state budgets cannot be run at a deficit, when revenues slack off, the budgets are often balanced by cutting medicaid and other benefits for the poor.

    cue exploding rethug heads….now!

    • 201 jackiegrumbacher

This is actually a great idea. It’s cruel and inhumane to subject people on Medicaid to the vagaries of state budgets and the ideological bent of incompetent state governors when their lives literally depend on the help they receive. For example, every child born with Down’s Syndrome is eligible for Medicaid because of the costs involved in helping these kids grow up to live happy and productive lives. Yank that support away because some creep of a governor got elected and you destroy their prospects in life. Same with anyone with a disability or inability to earn an income. It’s long past time for the GOP to stop playing games with people’s lives and federalize this system.

SE is not her real first/middle name. I believe it’s Sarah Elizabeth. Last semester I had to write a research paper on gender and politics and in one of my sources they mentioned that she goes by SE Cupp because she didn’t want her gender to be a factor when she was just writing and not appearing on television so she decided to just go by her initials since no one could assume her gender that way.

Cannot stand her! I refuse to watch the show she’s on at 3pm (EST). I can appreciate different viewpoints and do not mind debating real issues with conservatives, but I cannot abide by anyone outright lying and that is all she does. It’s one lie after another. Not only that, but her facial expressions and her condescending tone are reminiscent of a teenager, not a grown woman. I can’t understand why MSNBC is putting her on every show and I certainly don’t understand why they put her on her own show. She lies almost as much as Romney does.

Obama to announce China trade complaint on bus tour
By DONOVAN SLACK | 7/5/12 7:03 AM EDT
President Obama is using his campaign bus tour through Ohio on Thursday to announce the administration’s intention to file an unfair trade complaint against China with the World Trade Organization.

The complaint alleges China has unfairly placed new duties on American-made cars and sport utility vehicles, including Jeep Wranglers made in Toledo, Ohio, according to a Toledo Blade story distributed by the White House:

The enforcement action aims to force China to rescind the duties it placed disproportionately on General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC imports because of the 2009 taxpayer rescue of the auto industry…China in December imposed anti-dumping and countervailing duties on certain SUVs, claiming that U.S. taxpayer support of the two automakers amounted to a government subsidy that was illegal under WTO rules. The Obama Administration disputes that claim.

The duties cover more than 80 percent of U.S. auto exports to China, or about 92,000 vehicles. They add 15 percent to the price of an imported Jeep Wrangler or Detroit-made Jeep Grand Cherokee, 21.8 percent to a Buick Enclave and Cadillac CTS produced in Lansing, and 4.1 percent to an Acura TL sedan made by Honda of America Manufacturing Co. at Marysville, Ohio.

Obama is expected to talk about the complaint during a campaign stop in Maumee, Ohio, one of three events on his tour Thursday. He has made his decision to bail out the auto industry one of the central talking points of his campaign – a seemingly clean contrast with Mitt Romney, who advocated against providing government money to automakers.
