Mitt Romney Enters Witness Protection Program

The Romney campaign has decided that their candidate should not have to answer questions he may not like.
On the other hand, this is a presidential election and the public will not be content with softballs. Further, the mainstream media, which has bent over backwards to accommodate the tender sensibilities of the right, will not appreciate being given the cold shoulder. While Fox may be the most powerful news network, they cannot carry the Romney campaign alone. Should the other networks decide to give Romney the Al Gore/John Kerry treatment, Romney will find that all the glowing praise in the world from Sean Hannity will not overcome negative reporting from a spurned mainstream media.

Gov. Snyder vetoes election bills denounced as ‘voter suppression’ by critics

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Gov. Rick Snyder vetoed election reform bills that sparked angry protests and cries of voter suppression during committee hearings.

Snyder, in one day doubling the number of bills vetoed during his tenure, nixed bills that aimed to prevent voting fraud by requiring a voter to reaffirm U.S. citizenship before receiving a ballot and requiring photo ID when picking up an absentee ballot from a city office.

He also rejected a bill that would have required training for people, companies and organizations participating in voter registration drives.

This guy runs around talking about how much of a successful business man he is, and how President Obama doesn’t know anything about business. Unfortunately Team Chicago is going to make Romney choke on all of his business dealings.

Sad that that’s the only thing he can really run on. By sad, I mean for him. He can’t run on healthcare because he has to deny his only real accomplishment in that arena. He wanted Detroit to go bankrupt and pooh poohed going after bin Laden. His foreign policy credentiials are pretty non-existent. And now to learn that he did not actually create jobs….I just don’t know what he has going for him other than he’s not Obama.

Romney’s offshore finances draw new scrutiny

    By Steve Benen

Romney wasn’t exactly forthcoming with details — as his hidden tax returns help show, he’s kind of shy — and voters still don’t know much about his offshore finances.

But in a much-discussed piece for Vanity Fair, Nicholas Shaxson digs deeper into Romney’s offshore finances, which “look pretty strange for a presidential candidate.”
Under the circumstances, it would seem as if Romney has some legitimate questions to answer about his remarkable offshore investment strategy, but therein lies part of the problem: the candidate simply won’t talk about it. He hears the questions, evades them, waits for them to go away, and hopes voters simply don’t notice.

I just have to remark on the “Mom’s Drive the Economy” bumper sticker. Can something be more stupid?
I saw one yesterday on a rather bland looking car. It did not help that the sticker was a putrid looking brown color. And then the message was blah. If I did not know Romney put those stickers out, I’d probably wonder what the point it. And MOMS drive the economy? Just moms?
    Dumb idea.

On another note: I saw TWO Obama bumper stickers on cars yesterday 🙂

Robert Diamond, who today stepped down as chief executive of Barclays Plc (BARC), will no longer co-host a London campaign fundraiser this month for presumptive U.S. Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul confirmed.

Diamond resigned amid political pressure the London-based bank faced after it admitted to rigging global interest rates.

Good morning Chips and wonderful TOD family. I just read in our morning paper that Mitt Romney is coming to little ole Hamilton, MT July 11. Now Hamilton is 50 miles south of Missoula and a very red part of the state mainly because all the rich people have been coming in and buying up huge plots of land and building the very protected mansions. There are many places no longer open to the public. This is also the place where the man who built the famous Obama Library “Outhouse” that was on display at the State Republican Convention. He finally did get great local push back.

Anyway Romney will be having a fundraiser at the historic Daly Manson. You can attend if you have $2500 and you may have dinner with him if you have $25,000. This is Montana. It is a very purple state and right now there are many big political battles going on. To put it mildly. We are a state where the average income is about $30,000. So you can tell this isn’t for the average citizen. I won’t be able to go and protest. But I know of others that will try. Sure know he cares about those small contributors right!

I can’t believe the segment I just saw on CNN. I haven’t been watching CNN but have heard all the grumblings about the far right turn. But Rove and his Crossroads GPS is going to want to use this propaganda piece from CNN. It was seemingly part of a series of visiting cities in the “rust belt” to air interviews with town folk where they say they are definitely voting for Mitt Romney. And unbelievably this one attacked President Obama for letting down the auto industry and GM! (Rove trick—tear down your opponent’s strengths) It was in Janesville, Wi. where there was a shut down GM plant. No mention of President Obama’s bailout and the huge success of the auto industry. They had young people saying that they know a bunch of people who voted for Obama last time who aren’t voting for him now. One woman said she was definitely voting for “Mitch” Romney. She liked what he did at Bain and for Staples etc. Then they had one lone guy, out of a dozen or so, who said he was voting for Obama again, but right after that they had people saying that Wi. will definitely be in the Repub column this time. It was the most shameless, selective partisan piece of crud I have ever seen on a news program——that wasn’t a paid for political ad. I am so thoroughly disgusted. I have never seen anything like this.

And how do we know that these people really voted for President Obama, we have only there word, and I don’t trust a Republican or CNN. They cook up this story, like they did that piece of trash poll of theirs. It is ashame what CNN has become. I ask this once before, who own CNN? Anything negative against President Obama, that is all they are after, if they can’t find it, they will make it up. They thought they were going to have the ACA defeat for the President, but that surprised them, then oops they come up with that B.S. poll of theirs. I don’t watch CNN better known as TeaNN because they are just like that right wing piece of crap call FOX.

      • 98 Bill R.
        July 3, 2012 at 3:55 pm

Clarence Thomas has his own liabilities. Justice Roberts doesn’t like leakers and he may just decide that Justice Thomas has a problem with judicial ethics when he gets 1.5 million $ from the anti-ACA forces. A phone call to the Judicial Ethics Commission would be all that it takes.

Also, I’d say Clarence Thomas is totally unreliable to keep confidences. I do not imagine Roberts will like this, if Thomas is the leaker. Of course, we all knew Thomas is not qualified to be a Sureme Court Justice, and should have recused himself because of his wife’s job. I wonder if Roberts took that into consideration in his decision. Thomas probably wants to undercut the finality of this decision. He is just giving the Supreme Court another black eye, if he’s the one doing this. Going to be interesting to follow this investigation. I know there are hounds who will keep after this.

VoteVets is calling on Joe Walsh to resign after his disgusting comments about Tammy Duckworth. This guy is more than an embarrassment. He is unqualified to serve. Tammy Duckworth is a war hero, and on this July 4th holiday….I hope he gets an earful!

    • 101 Dudette

Yep, I was just coming in here to report that. Joe Walsh is a diseased piece of yak snot. I wish to God I lived in his district just long enough to I could vote his sorry ass out of Congress.

      Story about this on ThinkProgress:
Rep. Joe Walsh Blasts Double Amputee’s Military Service, Says She’s Not A ‘True Hero’

      Email from VoteVets:

      “Dear VoteVets.org Supporter,

In an appalling new low, Congressman Joe Walsh today slammed his opponent Tammy Duckworth’s military service. Walsh told Politico, “What else has she done? Female, wounded veteran … ehhh.” Duckworth served as a Black Hawk helicopter pilot in Iraq in 2004, and lost her legs and part of the use of her right arm. She was awarded the Purple Heart for her combat injuries.

Let’s stand up for Tammy, and show Joe Walsh that you can’t insult our veterans!

[link to ActBlue Support Tammy Duckworth page]

Just when you think Congressman Joe Walsh couldn’t sink any lower, he insults the service and sacrifice of our Veterans, particularly one like Tammy who lost her limbs in the line of duty. Congressman Walsh owes Tammy Duckworth and all Veterans an apology for his outrageous disrespect for their service.

But it’s not just that. If you think working for America’s veterans at the VA both in Washington and Illinois is nothing, if you think working to improve the economic lives of Veterans is nothing, then Joe Walsh’s record is below nothing. He represents the do-nothing, obstructionist, extreme Tea Party wing of the GOP, not the values that Tammy stood up for.

[link to ActBlue Support Tammy Duckworth page]

This is a core part of what we’re here for. When a Veteran’s service gets attacked, we fight back, and hard. Stand with us against this disgraceful attack on a great Veteran, by donating to Duckworth’s campaign. Thank you for all of your support.

The Obama campaign and the pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA Action are swinging at the fat pitch of the Vanity Fair article on Mitt Romney’s finances, picking up the thread related to his offshore holdings and his Swiss bank accounts and trying to hype the narrative of the out-of-touch business guy.

From Obama campaign spokseman Ben LaBolt, on a call with Ohio reporters:

“Today we’re learning more about Mitt Romney’s bets against America. Vanity Fair’s raising important questions about Romney’s offshore accounts in foreign tax havens, including his mysterious corporation in Bermuda, his funds in the Cayman Islands, and the Swiss bank account he opened. The question is, why? Was he avoiding paying his fair share of U.S. taxes? Was he hedging against the dollar? Until he releases his tax returns from that period, Americans will never know. This raises serious questions. If he has nothing to hide, why doesn’t he just release his tax returns?”

And from Bill Burton, at Priorities:

“Today’s Vanity Fair article confirms what the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal reported but the Romney campaign falsely denied.  Unlike the vast majority of Americans who pay their fair share of taxes, Mitt Romney is avoiding taxes by stashing millions of dollars in the Cayman Islands.  This matters in the presidential campaign because it is just these types of loopholes for the wealthy that Romney would protect, forcing more of the tax burden onto the middle class.

    MSM ignores it!

  32. July 3, 2012 at 4:03 pm

President Obama will sign a combined student loan transportation bill on Friday at the White House. The story behind the semantics debate

    By Steve Benen

TPM had a good report on the behind-the-scenes tensions today.

Republicans are bewildered by the Romney campaign’s declaration that the health care law’s individual mandate is not a tax…. Republican strategists told TPM that far from the unified voice the GOP said it would present after the Supreme Court ruling, the messaging has been chaotic, and ultimately embarrassing for Romney and the GOP. […]

“It’s a problem, I’m not going to lie,” said Hogan Gidley, a former top adviser to Rick Santorum’s campaign. “I’m not going to sugarcoat it, it’s a problem for the Republicans.”

As we discussed yesterday, this is a box the GOP can’t get out of. When it comes to attacking “Obamacare” and the mandate, there’s no getting around the fact that Mitt Romney created an identical policy in Massachusetts under the identical structure for identical reasons. If Obama raised taxes on the middle class, then Romney raised taxes on the middle class.

    • 113 57andfemale
      July 3, 2012 at 4:41 pm

And then there’s the point that Romney DID raise taxes, fees, ‘penalties’ on the middle class. Which Barack Obama has NOT done.

YEA! In Tampa, FL newspaper today:)

The Supreme Court ruling on President Obama’s health law gave the green light to helping children, workers and retirees get affordable health care. Americans of all ages can now live more secure, knowing that their health and well-being are no longer tied to the whims and greed of the big insurance companies.

Of all the lies and confusion that still surround the Affordable Care Act, perhaps the greatest is that so-called “Obamacare” is bad for seniors. This is just plain false. Florida Alliance for Retired Americans Members know that “Obama cares” about our health care and well-being.

The truth is the new law is helping millions of retirees better afford to see a doctor and fill a prescription. The 3.6 million seniors with the highest drug costs have already saved an average of $600 on their prescriptions. Some 32 million seniors have received free, life-saving tests for chronic diseases. The new law strengthens the Medicare Trust Fund by eliminating taxpayer overpayments to insurance companies that provide some Medicare benefits.

I just told a friend of mine that I’m married to a five year old! It will be 32 years for us in August.

I don’t crack open a bottle of Mad Hatter’s Dragon’s Milk often — it is a beer like no one has ever tasted and it knocks me on my butt. I save it for special occasions. Today is a special occasion……

But enough of that. I don’t have to work tomorrow! Yea!

I hear you:) Nerves of steel, we have! I really just laugh and let him know when he wants to be an adult, we can talk….and then I find someone fun to hang out with…like the girls.

Not hitched myself, but I’m convinced the reason my folks haven’t killed each other several times over their 52 years of marriage is that God gave them the ability to laugh at each other, themselves, and everybody else — together and with GUSTO!

Just made my appointment for my annual boob squishing session next week. Have you done yours this year, ladies? It’s important, ya know!

One question: Some damned man thought of squishing ’em between two plates, didn’t he? I’d like to kick his ass (…then hug him for saving so many lives). And why does it have to be so friggin’ cold?

Okay, another question: Can’t somebody come up with a better technology that’s less torture-y… please? I mean, really!! Some of you young folks out there in school, get on that, would ya?

yes, and it wasn’t as bad this time. the tech said they’ve improved the equipment. i still say, if guys had to have their balls squeezed in a cold vice every year, there’d be way better equipment and fast!

So true, so cold, so uncomfortable, so necessary! Someone should come up with a better way.

Obama maintains lead in Gallup for 6th straight day. Writer even notes that Gallup underrepresents minority voters! So, even so, good lead, good news.

Erin Burnett Thinks You Are A Loser, Lies About It

In her segment on the Affordable Care Act, Burnett helpfully explains that that “there is a tiger in America’s bathroom,” but in all seriousness you guys, she continues, “we’re all losers.”

In conclusion, says the millionaire who will never have to worry about affording treatment in the event that her pre-existing conditions aren’t covered, the Affordable Care Act was a “massive fail.”

CNN is really a RW network now…..there’s no doubt.

ChristiMTL, I am not trying to be ugly, but I don’t give a dam what Erin Burnett or TeaNN think.

        Sadly, I concur.

I long for the days of Bernie Shaw, Lyn Vaughn and even Bobbie Batista (with the goggly eyes — I’m sorry, but they were; they just were).

lol I laughed when I read your comment anniebella….I just saw the link on Media Matters……that network is dead…..it will never recover unless they change management……if their ratings were up I would understand to a certain degree why they continue on that path but the ratings are in free fall……….weird!

As I wrote on Jason’s report..Andy can wear it like a badge of honor that he is revered by the likes of Pres Obama and smeared by the limbaugh sewage dept.

      Thx 57!

Indeed! He was a great actor. But most importantly, he was a great soul! May he rest in peace.
