This Blog Needs You!

Morning/afternoon/evening everyone.

I keep meaning to say that if any of the regulars here ever want something posted on the blog (ie on the ‘front page’, not just in the comments), please let me know – I’m always completely thrilled to get your contributions (and it gives me a delightful break from hearing the sound of my own voice….. zzzzzzz).

The only rule – needless to say – is that it has to be PBO-related. It can’t, for example, be 500 words on how majestic cheesy puffs are….

…. which they are …

….. or are how glorious a sporty legend Wayne Rooney is……

…. which he is – especially after his hair started magically re-growing:

**** ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ***

… and it can’t be libelous – eg you can’t say that Cenk Uygur is a fraudulent piece of shit making a living from being a ‘progressive’ fake, when he’s never actually strayed from his extreme right-wing Republican roots and remains the loathsome turd that he always was and continues to do his damndest to persuade liberals not to support PBO.

We can’t have that class of defamation here.

So, if you have something PBO-related that you want to say, contact me – immediately.

Oh, another thing!

If any of you are up for getting involved in helping run the blog between now and November, I will welcome your assistance with a hug so tight you’ll most probably pass out.

I’ll be able to look after things most days, but there’ll be a few days here and there – due to work or traveling – when it will be tricky, so if you have any interest in helping out please email me at:

theobamadiary@gmail.com

This request is not, alas, open to Willard supporters – I don’t want the blog supporting the individual mandate one day, and opposing it the next. Supporting a woman’s right to choose one day, and opposing it the next. Supporting immigration reform one day, and opposing it the next. Supporting gun control one day, and opposing it the next…….. You get the drift.

Thanks everyone 😉

ROFLMAO yeah, a surprise poll, go figure. Those must be the states where

I email CNN (TeaNN) and ask asked them why is it we should believe their crazy poll, and I reminded them that they were the network which announced that the Supreme Court struck down the entire ACA law last week.

I love that idea. It should be the standard tweet response to everything they spew from now til November. Just remember to put a period before their .@ signal so everyone can see it. What would they do if a hundred tweets went out like that in response to all their ‘scoops’ and each one was retweeted multiple times. LOL

You’re right about Cenk. So what, if anything, does that say about Gore?
And in other things maybe/maybe not of interest: NYTimes Sunday Mag had a big article about SOS Clinton. Is it totally crazy to wonder if it was meant to coincide with a Bad SCOTUS ruling in order to revive DLC prospects? Too far-fetched, right?

    • July 2, 2012 at 10:08 pm

He was screaming today because the Feds mad a bunch of busts over the weekend, lots of grass involved.
Albeit, Cenk is pretty high strung, so a little Tai -stick for Him, would help us all.

I would be shocked in Romney was ahead 8 points in any of those states. I wonder what the crosstabs show. However, in keeping with my decision not to worry about polls until after the conventions, I am not going tocheck it out. CNN has shown themselves to be frauds, anyway.

        You started it.

Vacationing in Hawaii, two priests decide to wear casual clothes so they won’t be identified as clergy. They buy Hawaiian shirts and sandals, and soon head for the beach.

They notice a gorgeous blond in a tiny bikini. “Good afternoon, Fathers” she says as she strolls by.

The men are stunned. How does she know they are clergy? Later that day, they buy even wilder attire consisting of surfer shorts, tie dyed T-shirts, and dark glasses.

The next day, they return to the beach. The same fabulous blond, now wearing a string bikini, passes by, nods politely at them and says, “Good morning Fathers.”

“Just a minute young lady.”, says one of the priests. “We are priests and proud of it, but how in the world did you know?”

The blonde replies, “Don’t you recognize me? I’m sister Katherine from the convent.”

By sucking in their stomach every time they see a bikini.

    UPDATE:

Previously- I tweeted AliVelshi and received a response:

@AliVelshi @CNNYourMoney What liberals want is for you to talk about WHO is BLOCKING economic growth. Do you fear Republicans? @Obama2012

Reply: @laughingzebra liberals can watch a liberal network for that. Congress is blocking economic growth & compromise is lacking on both sides.

I had also emailed the tweet to @JohnFugelsang. I also got a reply from him:

    @JohnFugelsang
@laughingzebra investigating/discussing if/how the GOP has blocked economic growth isn’t liberal reporting, it’s “reporting.”

I tweeted @JohnFugelsang’s response to AliVelshi. I got this tweet for Velshi:

    @AliVelshi
@laughingzebra why are you cc-ng @JohnFugelsang? He’s got nothing to do with this discussion

I did not reply to him yet. Instead I sent a copy of his reply to @JohnFugelsang, along with a little commentary.

@AliVelshi: @laughingzebra why are you cc-ng @JohnFugelsang? He’s got nothing to do with this discussion. Seriouly?Ha Ha Ha

I find this to be seriously petty. Why on earth does he believe this should be a ‘private’ conversation.

At least Velshi’s responding to you. I tweeted him asking how dems have blocked economic growth. Haven’t got a reply.
      This was several hours ago.

And unless it was a private message sent straight to your tweetbox between you and Velshi, ANY topic is up for public discussion and input from others. Velshi doesn’t own twitter and I’m not sure why he’d have his ass on his back about Fuglesang’s input. Unless he’s just trying to misdirect because he doesn’t have logical answers to your question…

And the answer is a resounding YES. They DO fear republicans.

I think when Robme said he ‘liked firing people’, that was a dog whistle. You’re seeing more and more of these large corporation ceo ‘invites’ to their overworked, underpaid worker bees. Be careful of what you wish for.

A crackdown on illegal immigration, more job opportunities in Mexico and rising fees charged by smugglers are reducing the number of workers who cross the U.S. border illegally each year to help make up more than 60 percent of U.S. farmworkers. The American Farm Bureau Federation projects $5 billion to $9 billion in annual produce-industry losses because of the labor shortages.

U.S. trade officials on Thursday told a Republican lawmaker at the center of a legal fight with the Obama administration he cannot sit in on trade talks next week in San Diego between the United States and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Mac Campbell, assistant U.S. trade representative for congressional affairs, told Representative Darrell Issa in a letter that his request to observe the negotiations was denied, but he and two members of his staff would receive credentials to attend the event as “stakeholders.”

“With these credentials you will be able to attend public portions of the event. However, only negotiators from each country are present for negotiation sessions,” Campbell said.

What this blog needs a pic of chips pointing at us a la uncle sam.

  23. July 2, 2012 at 10:24 pm

I thought I’d share a post I did today on Facebook:

As most of you know, my dad was a Vietnam veteran. About a decade ago, he was ruled 100% disabled by the government due to complications that were a direct result of the Vietnam War. When my dad passed in 2010, my mom applied for spousal benefits, which are afforded to her as a wife of a disabled veteran. The VA initially told her that it would take upward to 200 or so days before they processed and either approved/denied her claim. This was in early 2011, so, she anticipated the claim would be approved by no later than the end of that year.

Unfortunately, because of budget cuts and a government freeze, the process was extremely slow. 150 days turned to 200 and that into a year. For someone who was counting on those benefits, the prolonged wait was pretty brutal.

Disappointed, and desperate, I finally came up with the idea to e-mail the White House. I wasn’t sure if it would amount to anything, but having waited as long as we did, something needed to be done. So, we contacted the White House. Initially, I didn’t expect anything because I’m sure they’re swamped daily with e-mails and phone calls. But, a couple weeks after the e-mail, my mom received a phone call from the VA and they told her that, to their surprise, the White House had called them and outlined my mom’s case and demanded action.

After a long wait, the VA agreed to push through my mom’s claim. Well today, she finally received a letter that they had approved her claim and she’ll now be receiving spousal benefits. Better yet, she will be given back pay all the way from Dec. 2010, the month after my dad died.

I don’t care if you agree with President Obama’s politics or some of his actions – but you can’t doubt this man’s sincerity. His White House didn’t have to help my mom, who was just some sixty year old living in Salt Lake City, Utah – but they did. I don’t care what anyone says about our President – I am proud of the man. Thanks to him, my mom finally has some peace of mind.

      July 2, 2012 at 11:08 pm

I’m not watching Lawrence, but the Medicaid aspect of this ruling IS actually the part that will affect the most uninsured people. The “mandate” part is getting the most attention, but the “Medicaid” part is the biggest part of what will happen at the state level., i.e. the part where uninsured people will be able to access affordable insurance.

      • 226 sabreen60
        July 3, 2012 at 12:11 am

The problem I have with Lawrence is his “opinion” that the governors will automatically decline the Fed money. Many governors said they wouldn’t take any Recovery Act funding and then turned around and took the money. I want to know how these Republican Governors who refuse 100% funding will explain to their citizens why they will not receive any health care. I don’t mean to be harsh, but this is a state issue. If the citizens of a Red state reelect a Governor who refused the funding and they go without health care, well it’s on them, isn’t it?

          July 3, 2012 at 12:53 am

Yes, but he also said that the Feds will set up the exchanges anyway. If the governors don’t take the medicade money, it will but ALL their hospitals in danger of going bankrupt. They decline the money at their own political peril.

Gobrooklyn, by your name, I’m figuring you might enjoy my story.

I watched the 4th of July fireworks on the Brooklyn Bridge the year they celebrated a special anniversary of “Liberty Enlightening the World” – the official name of the Statute of Liberty. (I forget what year it was, but it was a BFD!!) Absolutely amazing. The fireworks were shot from riverboats. The show was coordinated with music on a radio station that everybody had on, so it was like natural surround sound. The bridge was closed to traffic and a HUGE picnic was happening. The weather was perfect, not too hot. Just the right amount of breeze. Folks of all ages, all nationalities. Old people, kids — no crime, people were nice to each other. Folks were just chillin’ out. And when the fireworks started, the wave started from the BROOKLYN side, of course!

I’m not a New Yorker, never will be, but that night is up there in my top ten cool memories!!

Just recuperating from bad hard drive for days. Anyhow, it’s working now so l can post (hopefully until I get another message asking me to fix disk or buy a new disk ). I want to say what I think about TeaNN.(CNN) They are a part of the Nation.

CNN is taking up Fox’s slack.

    http://www.newscorpse.com/ncWP/?p=5502

The Six Steps” that Fox employs to create national controversies:

•STEP 1: Conservative activists introduce the lie.
•STEP 2: Fox News devotes massive coverage to the story.
•STEP 3: Fox attacks other outlets for ignoring the controversy.
•STEP 4: Mainstream outlets begin reporting on the story.
•STEP 5: Media critics, pundits praise Fox News’s coverage.
•STEP 6: The story falls apart once the damage has been done.

So much for Foxifcation. Love this pic.

Consequently, if CNN is gaining nothing from reshaping their editorial slant to mirror Fox, the only conclusion is that they are deliberately making a hard right turn because that is the direction they want to go. But this path has only resulted in their dropping to third place behind Fox and MSNBC. If CNN ever hopes to regain some of the luster of their glory days, they will need to differentiate themselves from Fox. They might want to take a stab at journalism. That would be novel in these days of advocacy tabloidism

    • 280 LunarSea
      July 3, 2012 at 12:44 am

Maybe we need to intervene in step 3.

Instead of spending so much time debunking their dumb stories, we should just start telling these other stations how stupid they look running with such obviously foolish stories that no sane person is gonna believe or read.

Tell them they sound as dumb as fox when they do that and remind them of fox’s ratings. Ask them if this is really what they want to aspire to? Bottom feeding?

    Affordable Care Act Classes
    Dear Senator McConnell:

Just heard on the local news a clip of you speaking to a group at Hardin Memorial Hospital this morning. Once again, you mentioned the 2300 page bill, as though that is too much for anyone to expect you to read and comprehend. That’s fine. We know you are lazy and you have whined about the burden of having to do your job for so long this is not surprise.

But, you added to that statement, “2300 page bill that nobody understands.” This is a lie, and you know it is a lie. Many of us have read and do understand the bill. If you want to admit that you are a lazy fool, at least you are being somewhat honest for a change. You do not have permission to try and make the rest of us look like fools with you. That is disgusting and totally unacceptable.

Here are a few links that might help you.

http://www.healthcare.gov/law/full/index.html (Site contains the entire bill as well as simple explanations that even you might be able to comprehend. Again, if you can’t read, my grandchildren will come read it to you.

https://class.coursera.org/healthpolicy-2012-001/wiki/index University of Pennsylvania offers a free class: Health Policy and the Affordable Care Act

The move comes less than a week after the bank was fined for trying to manipulate inter-bank lending rates, sparking a government inquiry and calls for criminal investigations.

Chancellor George Osborne said he hoped it was the “first step towards a new culture of responsibility” in banking.

WASHINGTON — House Democrats raised an impressive $2.3 million since last week’s Supreme Court ruling on the health care law and had their biggest grassroots fundraising day in history, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said today.

Nearly 65,000 Democratic supporters gave an average of $35 since the high court ruled on Thursday that President Barack Obama’s signature health care law was constitutional. Grassroots donors gave more money on Saturday than any other day in history, DCCC chairman Steve Israel said.

GM all. Just want to emphasize that there seems to be a lot of confusion re the ACA mandate. People think that they will be forced to pay a tax whether they have insurance or not. They don’t understand that it only applies to those who can afford to buy insurance but refuse – taking their chances and trips to the emergency room. This is the number 1 point to get out there and push back on today. Second is Bain’s investment in he medical waste business. Let’s stir up right wing groups – ask them ‘ is this who you’re gonna vote for? This greedy hypocrite? Where are your principles”? Let’s cause some mischief – it could be a disaster for Romney with the evangelical base if we press hard enough. Any thoughts?

As for the other two, everything is spin baby spin, bad news for obama and an easy win for Robney, he should run away with this, no problems.
        Good grief!

Jovie if anyone believe all these two bit pundits and their B.S., I still have that bridge to no where for sale. Every single one of these people never gave this President a chance against Hillary.

A prominent Hispanic Republican and Miami power broker accused Mitt Romney of lacking leadership and compassion in his approach to immigration in an interview with BuzzFeed this week, and warned that elements of the Miami party machinery won’t engage on election day without a more expansive Romney plan on immigration.

Rep. David Rivera, who represents the southwestern tip of the Sunshine State, is the only Latino Republican in the House who’s not on Romney’s Hispanic Steering Committee, kept at arm’s length by the presidential candidate because of a set of investigations into his personal finances. He recently introduced legislation that would give amnesty to some immigrants who came to to the country as children. And he said he has yet to see a serious, satisfying proposal from Romney on the issue.

“I think Hispanic voters expect more details as to what that ‘permanent solution’ might be that he keeps talking about,” Rivera said, referring to Romney’s pledge to fix the immigration system while in office.

In the telephone interview, Rivera rejected the notion that Romney can largely bypass the issue by focusing on Latinos’ high unemployment rate, as has apparently been the campaign’s strategy.

The Obama campaign accuses Mitt Romney in new campaign ad of being a “pioneer in outsourcing,” repeating a charge that the Romney campaign has strenuously contested over the last week.

The ad refers back to a June Washington Post story that showed Bain Capital invested in firms that created jobs overseas. The Romney campaign demanded a retraction of the story, to no avail, and more recently pointed to a FactCheck.org analysis questioning the “outsourcing” charge.

The Obama campaign has dismissed the FactCheck.org assessment as inaccurate and penned a letter to the truth-squadding website disputing its conclusions. And its newest commercial re-ups the attack on Romney’s business record.

“What a president believes, matters,” the ad begins. “Mitt Romney’s companies were pioneers in outsourcing U.S. jobs to low-wage countries. He supports tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas.”

“President Obama believes in insourcing. He fought to save the U.S. auto industry and favors tax cuts for companies that bring jobs home. Outsourcing versus insourcing. It matters.”
