Evening all

Cagle

****

Evening everyone. How have you all been today? What did I miss?

And I know you all want to know: How did my confident Euro 2012 prediction go, that Italy would beat Spain?

Spain 4, Italy 0. 😳

Chips, this is a great article about the ACA. It’s written by Wendell Potter who was once an insurance executive. Beginning tomorrow, he promises to high-light real life people who have been positively affected by this law.

I think people (order people) are starting to hear whats in the ACA, my mom who ONLY has regular teevee was telling me things I did not know she knew. She watches the Sunday shows and local shows that have given good information about what’s in it for seniors and with the SCOTUS upholding it, the L.A. Times has had many articles about it and she’s been reading up on it. More is getting out which is a very good thing….

Actress Mila Kunis has an interesting way of showing her support for President Barack Obama, she recently told Glamour magazine:

Glamour: Do you fund-raise for Obama?
Mila Kunis: More like street-art-based stuff in Los Angeles that I can’t talk about…because I’m pretty sure it’s illegal.
    Glamour: You graffiti?
Mila Kunis: Mm-hmm. I’d rather do that. I don’t need attention for it. What I truly believe in I will do privately.

I’m pretty much maxed out on my direct donations to the POTUS. Any suggestions for future donations? I don’t like giving to the DCCC.

      • July 1, 2012 at 8:34 pm

This is pro Obama super PAC, unlimited donations! Bill Burton in charge!
If I only had a million bucks.
I dud find out that Bill maher is Rich.
He owns part of the METS, so that 1 million he donated was probably a write-off! Still, a very nice thing to do!
If Bill Burton can somehow get this super PAC up to 50 million, that would be excellent!

Try to find individual members of the House of Rep. or the Senate that you are comfortable donating to. Remember, regaining majority in the House of Representative and maintaining a majority in the Senate is as crucial as re-electing President Obama. It’s the only the President will be able to move the country forward. As much as I hate blue dogs, I still send a check to DNC. I want Nancy Pelosi back as Speaker of the House of Rep.

Well hellooo Os!!! Another great getting up day again doncha know!!!! We had a severe thunderstorm come through in our part of TODtown and it left me with tree limbs in my yard and my gazebo cover in my neighbors yard. Electricity went out and the temp inside became unbearable. Other than that, well …..

My political take today is that be careful discussing the insurance rebate checks. Folks who are get insurance through their employers may not see much, if anything. The employer may get it and decide whether to pass it on. Better to manage expectations downward until we see how it turns out.

Supreme Court Springs A Leak; Leaks To Conservative Pundits May Have Started More Than A Month Ago

Crawford sites two unnamed sources, and there are a very limited universe of people who could have revealed this information to her. Only the justices and their personal staff would have access to this knowledge, and it is highly unlikely that a clerk or secretary would be willing to risk their entire career by revealing the Court’s confidential deliberations to the press. Crawford, moreover, is a very well connected conservative reporter who has, at times, worked closely with the Federalist Society to drive conservative legal narratives. Nothing is certain, but it is likely that one or both of Crawford’s sources is a conservative justice.

Moreover, as Linda Greenhouse points out, it is possible that the Court started springing leaks more than a month before Roberts handed down his opinion:

Around Memorial Day, a number of conservative columnists and bloggers suddenly began accusing the “liberal media” of putting “the squeeze to Justice Roberts,” as George Will expressed the thought in his Washington Post column. “They are waging an embarrassingly obvious campaign, hoping he will buckle beneath the pressure of their disapproval and declare Obamacare constitutional,” Mr. Will wrote. Although the court has been famously leakproof, Mr. Will and some of the others are well connected at the court, and I wondered at the time whether they had picked up signals that the chief justice, thought reliable after the oral argument two months earlier, was now wavering, and whether their message was really intended for him.

To be clear, at this point only two facts are confirmed: 1) According to Crawford, Roberts flipped his vote midstream; and 2) someone within the Court must have leaked her this information. It is perfectly appropriate for Justice Kennedy, or any other justice, for that matter, to internally lobby Roberts to try to obtain his vote in an important case. If a member of the Court has turned to conservative columnists like Will or reporters like Crawford in order to pressure and then embarrass Roberts, however, that would be a significant and unusual escalation from the justices’ regular tactics.

Wow…..this seems very serious to me.

You’re correct, df, highly worth the click … and for those who haven’t read the essential message from John Cole, well here it is:

“For once in your god damned lives, put aside your fucking stupid beliefs about purity and how the public option was the bestest thing since sliced bread, accept the massive, game-changing victory you got today, and use it as a god damned bludgeon against the troglodytes whose health care plans are modeled after Ebeneezer Scrooge. For once, focus your bloodlust on Republicans instead of the DLC/Firebaggers/ANYONE WITHOUT AN (R) AFTER THEIR NAME. I’m begging you.

For once in your lives turn a win into a win, just like the Republicans were able to do when I was a wingnut (and half the time they were able to turn a loss into a win). Don’t argue amongst yourselves about what would have been better- smash the Republicans around the head and neck with the cudgel you have been given. We’re not debating which Democratic plan would have been better, we’re debating the reality of what we have now versus the 18th century version of what Republicans would replace it with.

Again, as a former wingnut and lifelong Republican until 2006 or 2007, I am fucking begging- treat a win like a win and use it to your advantage. The most depressing thing about becoming a Democrat after being a Republican for so many years is just watching Democrats shit the bed whenever they win. Press the fucking advantage.

      Please?”

The worst thing was shitty reffing – which as a Galaxy fan I’m so used to, it’s a joke at this point – TWO CLEAR HAND BALLS INSIDE THE SJ BOX by SJ that weren’t called – would have made it an entirely different game (should have given us two PKs.) Then David let his temper get the better of him, and he got a very unnecessary yellow card for kicking the ball at the ref (who actually deserved to be strapped down naked on the ground, covered in honey, and overrun with ants), so now, due to card accumulation (yellow last game), he can’t play on July 4th. *sigh*

Even tho the news types have been critical of Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom on HBO, I think it’s excellent. And I think I know why they have been so grumpy about it—–it’s exposing them, laying them bare. All the failings. You have to listen carefully because the dialog is fast and furious, but you’ll hear everything that we talk about here, sometimes word for word. Watch if you can. I love that Sorkin took on this project. It’s so important, and he had to know that it likely would not be popular with those who have the power to try to squelch it and keep these revealed shameful truths tucked away.

Conclusion to an article in the UK Guardian

Actually this sentence should be revised because it wasn’t the United States that created this new entitlement, and it certainly wasn’t the Republican party (every member of which voted against the bill). Rather it was Barack Obama and the Democratic party – the same party that brought the country Social Security, Medicare and other key elements of the New Deal, which paved the way for decades of Democratic political dominance. Healthcare reform could have a similar effect: creating a new coalition of voters grateful to Democrats for dragging them kicking and screaming into the 21st century on healthcare.

That is the political gift that will keep on giving – and along with saved lives, better health and lower costs for millions of American, the greatest potential legacy of the Supreme Court’s decision.

I fall even more in love with Rev. Al Sharpton everyday. He engenders so much respect and admiration for how he fights so hard for the underdogs. He’s at the BET Awards and he just received a humanitarian award for his work on civil rights and fighting injustice everywhere. Pres. Obama said about him: “He is a voice for the voiceless….”

Rev. Al accepted his award and urged everyone to shake off their apathy and VOTE VOTE VOTE for Pres. Obama because the it’s not just about “Obama….it’s about you mama!” He urged people to fight for their right to vote and not allow the GOP to continue on with voter suppression. He talked about how the GOP is trying to destroy Medicare and Medicaid and steal rights from middle and working class people. He’s the best. He ended his speech with this:

Anyone interested in health care, go to the very bottom of the page in that link, and the rankings of health care systems are listed according to the World Health Organization. The U.S. is 37……not a good ranking for us. The entire article is interesting because it details how the U.S. helped to start and fund some of the most efficient health care systems around the world after World War II, while Truman couldn’t make any progress here at home. Number one is the far right’s eternal nemesis: France. #2 is Italy. I’ve had experience with both of those because of trips with friends, and know they are efficient and up to date and inexpensive, even to tourists. Hopefully, with Obamacare working, we can lift our rankings.

Mitt finally decided to be patriotic and clear up the issue of the ACA ‘tax’ in simple terms. Listen carefully.

ps. kidding – he was talking about his own health mandate, which applies to the ‘new’ mandate

IMAGINE THAT “A PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY PENALTY”

Clearly, Rich Santorum was right. Mitt Romney is the worst person to be running against President Obama because of Romneycare. This clip is just devastating for Willard. He can’t Etch-A-Sketch is way out of this. There’s just too much video of him supporting the mandate.

Even if the Robney Camp raised 100 million dollars with the RNC help, we are still ahead of them.
We have raised over 450 million combined with DNC, we have a big head start.
They just started raising that kind of dough, and only have 76 million( not including June).
So, we do have early money, what I think the President is doing is getting out to His donors, the Super PAC money combined might outspend Him. That is legit, so he is trying to get out there that he could lose if the Super PAC money goes crazy…
I think it’s wise and prudent.

If the media is looking for a compelling fundraising story, then they should focus all of their attention on Mitt’s top fundraiser.

Sheldon Adelson, one of the 10 richest Americans and the largest single donor in the entire election cycle, has vowed to spend $100 million to defeat President Obama.

Every news outlet should be asking “What Does Adelson Want?”

“Just three years ago Adelson’s empire was facing default, and FORBES estimated that his net worth plunged from $28 billion to about $3 billion. Since then he’s made almost all of it back—Sands’ stock is up 3,700%, and Adelson’s net worth has rebounded to $25 billion, again making him one of the ten richest people in America.

The 78-year-old who seemed destined to be a case study on the self-inflicted pitfalls of overleveraging just might have pulled off the greatest turnaround in the postmeltdown era, accumulating more wealth since 2009 than any other American—Mark Zuckerberg included.”

      http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2012/0312/feature-chinese-gambling-sheldon-adelson-billion-dollar-bet.html

So he was facing default when this President took office yet under Obamanomics he has accumulated more wealth since 2009 than any other American, still he is willing to spend $100 million to defeat this President.

      Why?

Why does he want? Is it good for Democracy for one man to have free speech that is 100 million times more influential than anyone else?

A President asking for money from donors in a close election is not new and is not news. A citizen trying to buy the Presidency for $100 million is new and is news.

      Why not cover that media?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Florida will not implement two provisions of the U.S. healthcare law involving an expansion of Medicaid for the poor and creation of a private insurance exchange, Governor Rick Scott said on Sunday.

Two other states with Republican governors, Wisconsin and Louisiana, opted out of the two provisions last week in the wake of the Supreme Court decision upholding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The healthcare law takes full effect in January 2014 and Republican lawmakers hope to repeal it before then. Florida will comply with the law if it remains in effect, Scott said.

In a statement, the governor said the healthcare law would not aid economic growth in his state “and since Florida is legally allowed to opt out, that’s the right decision for our citizens.”

    Well?

They will resist during election season, but eventually they will comply.

“Hospitals, the insurance industry, and health care advocates are expected to pressure states to join the program, but analysts are predicting that some will not participate, at least initially.

“The pressure will certainly come from the Democrats, and also from patient-advocacy groups and from the health and medical community, because it is taking money out of the pockets of health professionals, physicians, and health centers,” said Dr. Joseph Restuccia, a professor of health care at the Boston University School of Management.

“Some, for ideological reasons, will not cooperate. But the real question is whether they can sustain that with the political backlash that will occur,” Restuccia said….

Restuccia said he foresees a gradually forming consensus in state capitals that Medicaid expansion is acceptable.

Initially, he said, “some states that have strong Republican governors and legislatures are not going to cooperate.” But by 2019, Restuccia predicted, “we will see every state in the country having Medicaid expansion.”

The benefits will begin to be seen as all stakeholders work to control costs, just as they are in Massachusetts, he said.

I read about when Canada initiated their universal healthcare and many canadian doctors left the country. Doctors from the United States went there to help them out due to the shortage (I think I read it on Kos a few years ago, I’ll see if I can find the story). I know there will be shortages of doctors and specialist but there should be a growing number of physian assistants and nurses which is why we need to fix the rising cost of highter education.

Well Good Night my TOD Family. We made it through another roller coaster week. I know that we raised a lot of money for the President we just need to keep pressing on, keep praying, keep being positive.

Ya’ll notice Obama has surged on Intrade the last couple weeks? He’s pushing 56% overall and hasn’t been that high since the June jobs report came out a month ago. I know, Intrade got the healthcare vote wrong! But that was completely speculative and based on little fact since, unlike an election, there was absolutely no indication what direction the court would go (in an election, you’ve got polls, approval ratings, etc). It’ll be interesting to see if this is another good week for Obama. Hopefully it ends Friday with a good jobs report.

In an exclusive interview with The Sunday Times, Vice President Joe Biden said he’ll watch fireworks on Courthouse Square in his native city Tuesday and bring his family along for a look at where he spent his early years.
“You know, I haven’t been home in a while,” Biden said in a telephone interview Friday from Washington, D.C.

Officially, the stop is a re-election campaign visit as Biden, a Scranton native, and President Barack Obama intensify their bid to win Pennsylvania again. Biden said he will meet with local political leaders and campaign staff, but also hopes to take his family to his boyhood home at 2446 N. Washington Ave., he said.

a new yorker article (qpril 9, 2012) titled ‘the god of gamblers’ details the long reach of las vegas interests into macau, including sheldon adelson’s china holdings and entanglements. in a wonderful quotation, historian hal rothman says las vegas asks every visitor:

‘what do you want to be, and what will you pay to be it?’

i think that sums up the adelson/rethuglican contract perfectly.

    ok…good morning.

I just shot off 2 e-mails to TeaNN…… the promo showed that the 7 AM show will be having Congressman Dr.Tom Price and failed facelift Congresswoman Blackburn on to discuss the ACA law.

My question to them was after my mini rant. ” Which Democrats are scheduled to DEFEND the law ” ?

Also let them know that Don Lemon spilled the beans on his show last night when have a back and forth about the Major screwup TeaNN made when announcing the Supreme Court ruling…..saying that TeaNN is a ” Conservative ” network. They were discussing the ” Liberal media “
