CK, can you imagine that ‘poor’ overworked, caring man and his wife having to look after a baby at this point in time, at this point in the election, at this point in Sasha & Malia’s lives? Good as they both are with children I would not wish that for them now. The idea of it seems cool, but the reality of it just wouldn’t be, IMO.

I’m done too but now I have grand kids and guess what? They know who “President Obama” is and they stop whatever they are doing whenever they hear his voice on TV and they look at Grandpa and say, “that’s resident bama and he’s a good boy!” I tell them that he’s actually a “man” but they don’t quite have a grasp of that concept yet. 😉

Look at that! Baby # 1 is looking at my president. Suhweet! Ooooh ….PBO & babies …and PBO and kids…and FLOTUS and kids! Aaawww! What a terrific start to my weekend!

I know they say not to look a gift horse in the mouth (not that *I* would ever look in any horse’s mouth), but I’m getting suspicious. Confess, Chips, you seem to have instigated a series of ‘heart’ test for the clientelle this afternoon/evening! So what is it you want to tell us that you want to be sure how hearts are sturdy enough to withstand? You and Newt have broken up? We realized THAT when you stopped showing off his manly form here. You have found a new love? Well just spit it out, as long as it’s not a ‘leader’ from the other side I will try to accustom myself to his taking up more of your time. Of course, you could try and hold him off until November 8th – the extra day is for you to rest after the election night party. So, what is it?

If you check my TL, you’ll see I’m doing everything I can to have this video go as viral as possible.

What is displayed in the video is the very core of evil in our society – a bunch of entitled sociopaths initially delighted at a ‘victory’ that would have imperiled literally MILLIONS of lives, would have meant anguish, pain, financial turmoil, … simply untold, incalculable human suffering.

When they realized their fondest wish to ‘defeat the you-know-what in the WH’ hadn’t happen, they pick up their toys and go and sulk and begin figuring how to ‘spin it.’

They are the polar opposites of each of us, of our President, and of the majority of Americans. They must be exposed for what they truly are – evil human beings, sociopaths of the first order.

How any person can derive joy in the face of another person suffering is beyond anything I can comprehend. But, we know some people do, and the least we can do is keep them out of any role in governing.

            Dear Chips,

You, and others, who are skilled with graphics and video would be doing our fellow Americans a real service if you can find a way to capture the key frames in that 1:51 video and contrast them with the consequences had their wish come true – the devastating consequences on so many people’s lives. Rarely do you get a ‘raw’ view of just how deeply evil these people are – this video reveals it in a way that is unmistakable unless one is just as riveted to bigotry and inhumanity as Bondi, Scott, et al., are.

            Thank you.

For your Friday Night TOD Party Jam I give you…

Our World Famous Maryland Crab Cakes

    Ingredients:
•1 pound backfin Blue crab meat or other lump crab meat
    •8 saltine crackers
    •1 egg beaten
    •2 tbsp mayonnaise
    •1 tsp mustard
    •1/4 tsp Worcestershire
    •1/2 tsp Old Bay seasoning
    •salt to taste
    •2 tbsp vegetable oil

    Preparation:

1.Carefully check the crab meat for any cartilage. Put meat in a bowl and set it aside.

2.Crush the saltine crackers very fine and mix with all the other ingredients. Gently fold in the crab. Only mix enough to combine ingredients. You don’t want to break up the crab into fine shreds. Shape into 6 crab cakes, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

3.Heat about 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a non-stick frying pan. Sauté until golden brown on each side. This will only take about 3-5 minutes per side.
Garnish with tartar sauce, remoulade, or simply with a squeeze of lemon.

    Enjoy!!!

    From our VP Joe

    Donna —

Yesterday I shared an emotional moment with Barack in the Oval Office after he learned health reform had been upheld.

Barack Obama is a man who refused to give up. No matter how politically unpopular it was, he knew it was the right thing to do.

Tomorrow is the biggest fundraising deadline of this election so far. Romney and the Republicans may outraise us again — you can bet they’ll have a whole slew of special interests who want to see Romney make good on his promise to repeal Obamacare on Day One.

But they can’t beat us if we pull together. Our grassroots movement is unstoppable when we put our minds to it.

Please donate before the critical deadline.

    Thanks,

    Joe

Well who can resist VP Joe… I’m on my way to put a little in some of those FR Thermometers.

        Hi Joy,

I love Ottawa and the Canadians I have met.

although you may not be able to donate money you can help out PBO in a number of non-cash ways such as:

-creating a visual aid to show your support,

-highlighting PBO’s policies and combating anti-obama lies and rants using the internet,

        – contacting Americans you know and remind them to register to vote or convincing them to vote for POTUS,

-sending suggestions to the campaign about ideas that will win

        – Praying (if prayers are your kind of thing)

        etc

I’m so thankful for this place where I can come and feel safe and comfortable knowing the people here also supports our President. It’s what binds us together today and will bind us tomorrow. It’s what makes us a family.

Oh Hachikō, you’re lovely. I come from a family where showing your emotions was never deemed a good thing, usually mocked as a weakness. Weird shit. So I tend only to let it all go when temper gets the better of me. But since his inauguration, PBO has filled me with a joy I have never known before. As I keep saying, I feel blessed to be alive in his time. His achievements, in the face of all this venom, are spectacular, but what restores my faith more than anything: a thoroughly decent human being occupies the Oval Office. Little wonder the world – and us – loves the fella. Look after yourself.

Scott Walker got schooled today by the Wisconsin Republican AG. Van Hollen told Walker that actually, Governor Walker has to comply with federal law and implement Obamacares.

Two days ago I told you how Scott Walker had announced he was going to violate federal law by not implementing the Affordable Care Act even if the Supreme Court upheld it. His plan was to just wait until the “next president” repealed it.

After they upheld it, the cheese state cowboy who acts like Bush but is really more Nixon sans the smarts doubled down, flaunting his lawless defiance of the law:

    ///

It turns out that even the Republican Wisconsin AG Van Hollen agrees that yes, Walker has to comply with federal law. You might recall Van Hollen, he was the lawyer for Wisconsin in the lawsuit filed against ObamaCares, so it’s not as if he’s pro-ACA. In 2008, Van Hollen sued the Wisconsin state elections agency to force the Government Accountability Board to check voter registrations for accuracy (his suit was thrown out for lack of standing). But even Van Hollen’s partisan prejudice can’t stop him from acknowledging that there are some laws even Republicans must follow.

    What a treasonous a-hole.

Four US students who gained infamy after a video of their verbal abuse towards a bus monitor went viral have been suspended from school for a year.

Footage of the 12- and 13-year-olds taunting Karen Klein has been viewed some 8 million times.

The school system in the New York state town of Greece says the students must also complete 50 hours of community service with senior citizens.

Mrs Klein, 68, said she did not want the boys to face criminal charges.

She told the Associated Press last week that others should not harass or threaten the students.

“That’s not the way to go about things,” she said. “They’re just kids.”

A lady calls the police to report her husband is missing. The police arrive and ask for a description. She tells them he’s 6 feet 2 inches tall, blonde wavy hair and has a smile that makes everybody love him.

The police then go to the next door neighbor to verify this report and the lady next door tells the police, “You can’t believe her. He’s 5 feet 4 inches tall, has no hair and he wears a perpetual frown on his face.”

The neighbor then goes and asks the lady why she gave the police such a false report. She replies, “Just because I reported him missing, doesn’t mean I wanted him back!”

    ….

Ok, that was not a lie joke. It’s a wimmin!!! joke.

Ah Tally, I used to LOVE the Tour, until I learnt it was the Chemical Olympics, dominated by drug-fuelled con artists like Stephen Roche, Lance Armstrong, Alberto Contador, Floyd Landis and the like. Couldn’t give a flying **** who wins the charade now.

I love you, and I agree that many are drugged. Lance is clean, and I’ll believe that until a negative test comes back. Not only is he the most tested human on planet Earth (blood, urine, HAIR), has had zero positive tests, and even a two-year federal grand jury investigation found NOTHING, – talk to anyone who has gone through Chemo – there is NO WAY he’d dope.

He’s also the human version of Secretariat. He’s a freak: enlarged heart, processes lactic acid better, and rebuilt his body on a BIKE coming off chemo, not in a gym. He has muscles most humans don’t have – kind of like ballet dancers have different muscles.

That said – It’s FRANCE in HD!!! It’s go beyond gorgeous!!! Once upon a time my dream of what to do when I win the lotto was to take he QEII to Southampton, then fly the Concord home. Now that that’s a bust, I’d like to VIP chase Le Tour. 😀 😀 😀

        • June 29, 2012 at 10:23 pm

Tally, I love you back, intensely, but – from the pit of my heart – I regard Armstrong as the greatest sporting fraud in history. I can’t begin to describe how much I despise him, particularly his Livestrong bullshit, giving false hope to cancer sufferers in an effort to cast himself as heroic. He is NOTHING of the sort, he is the dregs of humanity, a worthless, fraudulent cheat.

He HAS failed tests, repeatedly, France’s L’Equipe proved that, but he was way too valuable a product for the cycling world for them ever to reveal the truth – just like the Olympic people covered up all the failed drug tests at the 1984 LA Games.

David Walsh’s book (the second link I posted) is simply astonishing, Armstrong is not only a fraud, he dragged others down with him, mercilessly. Walsh is one of the very great sports journalists of our time, his unveiling of Armstrong his finest hour.

Please, read the book. Armstrong is not only a fraud, he’s a sinister, nasty piece of work. I ****ing HATE him.

This is OT, but IMO, I really hate it when Rachel does these reports like the one she did on Palistan tonight. I don’t think it helps our security abroad for these type of stories to be done especially when we already have a rocky relation with Pakistan.

COS, I agree with you. Rachel is selling her book. She enjoys being a ‘smart-ass.’ She enjoys being contrarian, Sometimes that’s good, sometimes that’s bad. In the Pakistan story, I think it was bad. But her book is on how the US gets into war, so she was proud of herself with that story.

For me, most times, it just gets on my nerves. Something about her voice that drips sarcasm, even when she’s serious. I guess I just don’t like her as a host. I opened a link that someone shared, so it was on for the Pakistan story. Plus, I did enjoy the short piece she did on the Staff Sgt who was drafted, at 27, into the NBA. I usually just watch Rev Al and Martin Bashir.

Same with Nimrata Randhawa Haley (that would be “Nikki” Haley, Re-thug-lican Governor of South Carolina.) She went so far as to change her race. As far as she’s concerned, she’s white. 😆

Yahoo’s Dirty Tackle blog falls in to the “do not miss” category, its story on Cristiano Ronaldo missing his flight home to Portugal from Euro 2012 one of its biggest scoops ever.

He was, they reported, “left shaking his head and pulling up the legs of his shorts as he watched the plane fly off without him”.

“It was just a question of me speaking with the travel planner,” said a clearly distraught Ronaldo. “She said to me, ‘Do you want to sit in the fifth zone – in the back of the plane?’ and I said ‘yes’. Sometimes I sit in the first, the second or the third. I agreed to take the fifth. And then I went to get a Cinnabon and the plane took off without me.”

The flight’s captain, Ted Mendes, had no sympathy for the fella, though.

“If he wanted to be sure he was on the plane, he should have boarded sooner. Maybe if he did, he would’ve sat next to the emergency exit and Bruno Alves wouldn’t haven’t knocked the door open mid-flight.”

By mid-day Twitter was aflutter over the news. “OMG, how can they have missed him,” wrote one distressed Ronaldo fan.

On being informed by, oh, several thousand Twitterers than the story was a joke, the gist of the response from the Ronaldo fans was: “OMG! IT’S NOT FUNNY.”

      You had to laugh, though.

Good evening, TOD family! First I want to thank everyone who has contributed to my fundraising page. You are awesome! And I know that every contribution adds to the total and represents a tiny piece of the campaign. Our President may be outspent, but he will never be “outloved”. There – I have just invented a new word.

It has been a big week for me. Monday I had the great honor of making a pitch for OFA and encouraging 1800 people to get more involved in the campaign to make sure that our outstanding President will have four more years. This was at Boston’s Symphony Hall. My little speech came right after a passionate address by our Governor Deval Patrick (really an incredibly tough act to follow). Then Elizabeth Warren introduced the President. He was great and he had an enthusiastic crowd. People stood up and applauded at least a dozen times. Of course, the President also had a little fun with the Red Sox fans.

Tuesday, I spent a lot of time on 1:1 meetings with potential volunteers in a community where we are just begining to organize.
Wednesday there was a team meeting with one of my more established teams. We set up a summer program for voter registration, door-to-door canvassing and trips to New Hampshire. Thursday was phone bank day and, of course, the topic of the day was the ACA and the Supreme Court’s decision. I am so happy that the ACA will stand and I believe that people will soon realize what a blessing this new law really is for so many. I can’t wait for the rebate checks to arrrive at people’s homes to remind them that their health care is now more important than the insurance company’s profits. Cost control is the real difference between Obamacare and Romneycare – but then Mr. Romney does not want to be reminded how persuasively he once argued for the individual mandate- without those cost controls.
Today I am trying to catch up with the paperwork and confirm everyone going to New Hampshire tomorrow. Three of my teams are participating and I will be going as well. I am looking forward to it – canvassing is my favorite activity. Tomorrow night I will be pet-sitting and telling a very intelligent little dog all about it. And, of course, I’ll be checking out the latest on TOD.

Something from our neck of the woods..

“Hawaii bets right on SCOTUS health care ruling”

HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii bet correctly that the Supreme Court would uphold the bulk of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, but the state plans a full analysis to see how the lengthy ruling affects plans to implement the law.

The Thursday ruling upheld the law’s key provisions — including its hotly-debated requirement that nearly every American carry health insurance — and kept Hawaii largely in line with legislation it supported since its passage.

Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie, a Democrat, said that the politics around the issue won’t go away, but the state is keeping its priority of making sure Hawaii residents have a high quality system with sustainable costs.”

“The Affordable Care Act is our ally in Hawaii to provide health care for everyone,” Abercrombie said Thursday. “We’re pioneers in it.”

Well well well..look who’s not as popular as Lifetime thought she would be..

“Lifetime Buries Its Bristol Palin Bomb Out Back and Hopes We Don’t Notice”

“There are numerous reasons why Bristol Palin’s reality show failed, but the biggest one is that the show is awful. I mean really, really awful. Like bad mockumentary awful. It may be most unwatchable 60 minutes on television. Somebody at Lifetime was fooled into thinking that Bristol Palin’s Dancing With The Stars appearance meant that she was popular. What they might not have known was that Palinbots rigged the vote for Bristol because they thought that it would help resurrect their Joan of Noah’s Ark, Sarah Palin, back from the political dead.

Lifetime got suckered, and like every other individual or organization that has either paid or voted for a Palin, they are now left holding the bag. It looks like the grifting gravy train may finally be coming to an end. Sarah PAC can’t raise money, Mama Grizzle has been reduced to giving speeches for free, and Bristol Palin got the boot off prime time after just two episodes.”

Greeting TODers from beautiful New Zealand where I’ve been the past 10 days, logging in multiple times (adding to those all important “hits”) to get my dose of good news, love and laughter from this amazing community (thx Chips!). Wanted to pass along this email from Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts of RI. She’s been moving ahead assuming a positive outcome all along!

Supreme Court Upholds Affordable Care Act
Yesterday, the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act, ruling the law constitutional with some restriction. Here is what the ruling means to Rhode Islanders…

Yesterday’s Supreme Court decision was received as positive news for Rhode Island’s ongoing efforts to implement the federal health reform law. Governor Chafee expressed his full commitment to ensuring Rhode Island is a national leader in implementing tLt. Gov Roberts at press conferencehe law no matter how the Supreme Court ruled, however, the Governor said the decision just reinforced that commitment.

Rhode Island has been implementing the federal health reform law for over two years, beginning with Lt. Governor Roberts’ early efforts in 2010 to ensure Rhode Island had a clear path ahead toward achieving universal coverage for Rhode Islanders. With the Supreme Court’s ruling, that path has been cleared for the state to move forward in partnership with the federal government and continue to benefit from its support and funding.

The Supreme Court decision means up to 120,000 uninsured Rhode Islanders will be able to enroll in healthcare coverage starting October 1, 2013 and will have access to the coverage by January 1, 2014. Rhode Island families and small businesses soon will have an online marketplace known as the RI Health Benefits Exchange where they can easily buy and compare health insurance options. Some residents will even qualify for free or low-cost insurance depending on their income. Rhode Islanders will begin to hear more about this marketplace in the coming months.
There are many popular health reforms offered through the law that are already in place in Rhode Island and making a difference for people throughout the state. These benefits include providing new coverage options for young adults; making prescription drugs affordable for seniors; covering preventive services with no deductible or co-pay; scrutinizing unreasonable premium increases; removing lifetime limits on health benefits; creating new coverage options for individuals with pre-existing conditions; creating tax credits for premiuims paid by small businesses and non-profits; and preventing illness and promoting health. These are just a few of the ways Rhode Islanders will continue to benefit from the law, and a complete list can be found here: http://www.healthcare.gov/law/resources/index.html.

Excellent article on making the best of a dire situation, JER, ,THANK YOU! A snip..

When a couple drunks stumbled up and started trash talking about Obama, several in the crowd quickly confronted them.

“Show some respect,” demanded Jack Martinez, who waited, camera in hand, to see the president of the United States.

Martinez explained Obama’s visit wasn’t about politics or his re-election campaign. He believed Obama simply wanted to convey to victims the sympathies of the nation.

Obama also came to thank the hundreds of firefighters risking their lives to save Colorado. And he tried to assure the entire city that every resource available would be put into the fight against the wildfire.

Martinez was angry that a couple barflies wanted to use the tragedy to launch personal attacks against Obama.

“I’m glad he’s in town,” Martinez said as heads around him nodded agreement. “He should be here.”,/strong>

Bobfr, Chips or anyone of you creative TOD family,

After watching the video that Bobfr has been tweeting which shows gov scott and other rightwingers’ angry reaction to the SCOTUS ruling on ACA, I believe that this clip could be combined with the clip of the rightwingers celebrating the US loss of the Chicago Olympic bid.

this video could be entitled : malice of the republicans.

some of the comments it could include in this combined video are:

“who side are these republicans on?”

“maliciously and gleefully routing for the failure of the US and fellow Americans”

and it could end with the question: “would you put your future in these malicious republican hands?”

Agree, gclinda, that the juxtaposition of the two threads would drive the message, as you suggest. I also think the fact that Bondi was using an iPad offers the opportunity for a major contrast – EtchASketch 20th Century tech vs iPad 21st Century tech. No matter how hard she might want to shake it, that YouTube video, and all it reveals in less than 2 min, is for posterity.

But, the best I can offer are tweets, we need to leave the multimedia to folk with talents I don’t have – though everything I’m currently building is certainly going to extend the infrastructure for those whom do have it to thrive, persist and be present way more efficiently and effectively.

paul krugman says here that what’s most striking about the aca-haters is, yes, their ‘dishonesty’, but even more shockingly, their ‘cruelty’. they have no plan and no interest in assuring health care for all americans. so ugly and bizarre. so, yes, anniebella, the educating of reasonable people must continue. as for the crazies, let them self-deport to romnesia!

WALDO CANYON FIRE: Obama brings laughter back to city

Martinez was angry that a couple barflies wanted to use the tragedy to launch personal attacks against Obama.

“I’m glad he’s in town,” Martinez said as heads around him nodded agreement. “He should be here.”

After about 40 minutes, the chatter stopped as the motorcade stirred. The press corps was hustled into vans. The doors of the black SUV with the presidential seal opened and Obama hopped inside.

The crowd around me roared. Cheered. Hollered words of support.

Some in the crowd said Obama waved as he sped off. They were thrilled.

I saw a soldier in camouflage on the curb snap to attention and salute as Obama drove past.

It was good to see the community smile again. No doubt, there will be more tears before this is over.

But I sensed the crowd was comforted to know we’re not alone. That our president cares. Our nation cares.

The mayor of this beleaguered city told reporters after President Barack Obama departed on Air Force One that he was thankful for the visit and described his two-and-a-half hours with the president during the tour of the Waldo Canyon Fire damage.

Air Force One was wheels up from Colorado Springs airport at 2:42 p.m. Afterward Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach said the firefighting effort “shows the power of federal, state and local governments working together.”

Bach was in the limo with Obama, Gov. John Hickenlooper and others for about 2 1/2 hours. He said the president was “very down to earth, very straightforward, smart, and wants to help.”

In the limo, they talked about the fire as well as the economy. Bach told the president unemployment is high here, and “our people need jobs.”

“I told him we need his help to get the economy going again,” Bach said.

They also talked about basketball and golf, their families, and — the theme that kept coming up — the importance of community.

“We can provide resources at federal level but we can’t provide courage,” Bach said.

Bach said the mood in the limo was somber as they drove through Mountain Shadows. Obama was “very taken by what he saw.”

He described the president as “very engaging.” Bach said his most poignant memory of the visit will be that on several occasions Obama got out of car, came right up to engage the people and hugged them, thanking them.

“I think he was very sincere in that,” he said.

“It was more than a photo op for him. He clearly wanted to say to the people, the firefighters, ‘this matters and the country has your back.’ That means a lot.”
