Good Morning – thank you for allowing me to post on the WONDERFUL site. I am still basking in the afterglow of yesterdays SC ruling. I have been coming to this site for some time and have learned so much, laughed so loud and truley feel this is the place for getting the news. Oh – one more thought – What a man, what a man, what a mighty good man!
This is what we can repeatedly and simply point out to our contacts, GOP has nothing to offer YOU. We can start our reminders with today’s admission, but the GOP have provided many examples with which we can continue the dialogue
All Republicans can offer the nation is the word 'NO', NOTHING MORE! NO JOBS. NO HEALTHCARE. NO LEADERSHIP. Just 'No'. http://t.co/PIc9UgGQ
Crossroads is going up against Heitcamp I ND, for what they call Obama tax.
They are trying to divide and conquer, and when you have People like McCaskil and Manchin…!
Obamacare being upheld may be one thing contributing. But it’s mostly that the EU got its act together and has a plan for stronger fiscal and political union, as well as a plan to prop up the banks from EU funds, rather than leaving it up to the member nations to do it.
In the wake of Mitt Romney’s 24-hour fundraising blitz, President Obama’s Chicago-based reelection campaign is claiming that they’ve actually raised more.
“We’ve outraised the Romney campaign in that time period but that’s not the point – our supporters are more committed than ever to ensuring that insurance companies can’t drop coverage for people who get sick or discriminate against people with preexisting conditions by reelecting the President,” campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt said in an email.
“It’s perverse that Mitt Romney wont share details about what he’d do for the millions he’d leave uninsured or at the whims of insurance companies when he ‘kills Obamacare dead,’ but he’ll share the hourly details of his fundraising after the Supreme Court ruling,” LaBolt said.
In the 24 hours since health care’s passage, Romney claimed a $4.6 million haul from more than 47,000 donors β at an average donation of $100 per person. The Obama campaign would not comment on the amount raised.
HuffPost blamed CNN for getting wrong. Proves, what the president said in April at WHCD, HuffPost links and posts other people’s hard work…..in this case, their mistake too, while Arianna Pockets the cash?
Recycling, in case you were wondering, but also a way of cutting down on the dangerous amounts of junk in orbit, which could reach a tipping point, start shredding each other and exponentially increasing shrapnel until everything starts going down.
The highway, student loan and flood insurance package Congress is expected to approve today includes provisions that would raise $20 billion in new tax and fee revenues from companies.
One of the new measures would adjust the way pension liabilities are measured for companies. Currently, companies are generally required to contribute more into their pension plans because interest rates are at historic lows.
I told you, the Arab League, the Muslim moderates, need to get involved. Viola!
Let’s hope it works.
Remember, the Saudi Prince just came to wh last week… Hmmmm!
Will know more, LL, in the next 48 h. ~ 10 days ago when I suggested that we would likely see significant events in the days ahead we already had hints that the momentum had clearly shifted to the FSA. From what little I know, it seems Syria has become the tourist destination of choice in the past few months and the height of the season appears to be soon upon us π
And, note that ASSad has now been reduced to firing rockets and artillery at his key commercial center of Aleppo … that’s definitely not ‘good news for McCain’ … π

I’m so thrilled I can’t stand it. Chips, you have done so much to make this happen. CHEERS.
I was able to raise $500 myself yesterday in both small and large donations, thanks to the gorgeous generous people here. Every dollar counts and every donation is just a complete THRILL. You are all just beyond amazing.
First it was 2 mil, then it was 2.5 mil and now it’s 4.6 mil suddenly? I call it bullshit. As usual, the truth of these numbers will come out in a week or two.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) on Friday said the combined highway, student loan and flood insurance package coming up for votes in Congress would reduce the deficit byΒ $16.3 billion over 10 years.Β
The bill funds highway programs for two years and prevents a doubling of interest rates on Stafford student loans for one year.
The CBO’s score is unlikely to sway some conservatives who are objecting to the bill over the level of spending it contains. Heritage Action and the Club for Growth are against the bill and urging lawmakers to vote no.Β
SELLING HEALTHCARE REFORM – A SECOND BITE AT THE APPLE
As Rachel Maddow reported last night, when President Obama spoke to the nation about the SC ruling he was a human brochure for the Affordable Care Act. He ticked off the elements in fine fashion. He provided a very effective ad for Obamacare while he had the attention of the nation.
The Republican Party succeeded in demonizing the ACA back in 2010 with staged town halls and deceptive ads. But one of the best things to come out of the SC ruling is that it gives the Democrats another bite at the apple to explain the the elements of ACA. Polling shows overall support for the ACA is low, but there is support for individual elements on both sides of the aisle.
Rachel Maddow makes the case for why the real benefit to Democrats of the Supreme Court’s upholding of the ACA is that they can campaign on it’s politically popular components provided they can compete with the massively funded opposition advertising that will run over the course of the unduly long 4 years.
A second chance for the Democrats to make the case for health care.
Actor George Clooney, who hosted a high-profile fundraiser for President Barack Obama at his home in May, is heading to Switzerland this summer for another campaign event.
Clooney will attend a fundraiser the presidentβs re-election in Geneva on August 27, according to an invitation on the campaignβs website.
It’s part of the quest to leave no source of fundraising untapped βΒ and that includes expatriate overseas donors. Other Obama fundraisers have held overseas events for the campaign β and the Daily’s Dan Hirschhorn reported that Mitt Romney was weighing a fundraiser in Israel.
Starting Sunday, grad students to pay interest while in school, undergrads lose 6-month grace period
Reuters
9:34 a.m. CDT, June 28, 2012
College students are facing a roughly $20 billion increase in the cost of their federal loans, despite a much-heralded deal in Washington to contain the expense of higher education.
Starting Sunday, students hoping to earn the graduate degrees that have become mandatory for many white-collar jobs will become responsible for paying the interest on their federal loans while they are in school and immediately after they graduate. That means they’ll have to pay an extra $18 billion out of pocket over the next decade.
Meanwhile, the government will no longer cover the interest on undergraduate loans during the six months after students finish school. That’s expected to cost them more than $2 billion.
These changes have received little attention as lawmakers instead focus on preventing a spike in interest rates on federal student loans. They are the fallout of earlier political battles and compromises over broader issues such as the federal budget and the national debt ceiling. And they are forcing students such as Clarise McCants to make tough choices about how to pursue academic goals without jeopardizing financial security.
“I don’t want to hastily make a decision that could waste thousands of dollars I don’t have,” said McCants, who said she will have to put off graduate school after finishing her undergraduate degree at Howard University in the spring. “That could kind of prove disastrous for my finances.”
As Michelle Obama has often told us the president goes big and long. I think the major “selling” of Obama care that all of us have wanted has been waiting for this SCOTUS action. The president was biding his time waiting to see whether the bill would survive in tact. Now the path is clear for a major push and I think we’re going to see a big marketing campaign with lots of examples of the people helped and lots of “just the facts ma’am” ads. Remember when the president waited until after the debt ceiling crisis was passed and the deal cut and then starting lighting into congress and calling them on their idiocy? He was holding his cards until the debt ceiling issue was safely in harbor. I think we’re going to see the same thing on health care in the days and weeks ahead. The SCOTUS decision freed the president to act and when he does he’s unstoppable.
I totally agree. Not only will you see the massive marketing campaign (which we have already been seeing some of it) I would not be surprised if the President’s timetable on implementation of certain aspects of the law isn’t moved up considerably. Several things went into effect early. Sebellius is amazing and I think things are further along than we think.
Ding ding ding. Exactly. All in due time. Hello Jackie, and Jackie. π This is exactly why he hedged when asked several times about his messaging. I remember this vividly. Come on, PBO deficient in messaging? Not !! Jackiegrumbacher, I thank you for the info you posted earlier regarding Pennsylvania voting requirements. Will add it to my info pack.
TODville, how about we take any opportunity today to thank someone in the Obama Admin by name, not necessarily a front line person. Look up their position or name or twitter handle on the google. It won’t take long if we have someone in mind. We send messages when they mess up, and yes they didn’t make this SC decision, but it’s the best opportunity we’ve had recently to send positive messages. Everyone, well mostly everyone, enjoys a pat on the shoulder from time to time. MSM puts spin on their made up news all the time. Why shouldn’t we put a positive spin on our very real good news? What do you say?
IMO today is a great occasion 2 reach out 2 somebody SPECIFIC at White House/Obama campaign with a pat on the back. Let's use the moment
Hi TOD family. Second day of dirty dancing! With the SC’s decision upholding Obamacare and my new ‘puter (can post again)…well “I’m Having the Time of My Life”. Hope all who are able has sent the Obama Campaign a little dough-ray-me.
Happy 11 million plus Chips- wow what a day yesterday indeed. My family lost two Aunts in the past week.. and thus a funeral yesterday & another coming up on Monday- so I’ve missed so much of the celebrations here. But I’m truly thrilled & grateful that the Supreme court did the right thing, and so proud of President Obama. And I’m proud of the many Dems yesterday who walked out on that sham of a contempt vote. Happy friday to all!
thank you jojo.. they were both elderly and failing a bit, but they went suddenly and it has been tough on their kids & grandkids… and everyone is at my mom’s house- so she’s wearing herself out a bit- its been hard on her.. anyhow, we’re coping and spending time together w/ cousins I haven’t seen in years- so theres good here too.
Sherijr, I know I am real late on this thread, but my heart felt condolence to you and your family on the lost of your aunties. I hope you are doing well. From your initial post you are a true testimonial to Character.
I think I am going to fill out that survey thing again and suggest that now that ACA has been settled by the SC that the campaign do a “Did You Know” series listing in each video for real tv not just the web the benefits of Obamacare and how it affects us personally.
Great idea, donna dem. Personal, positive stories spread in every conceivable venue will be a great counter to the repub’s claim that Obama’s mandate is somehow a huge tax increase.
Good idea donna. I noticed how well the latino DEAM order that the President made last week went over with many voters. I think that was because the videos of all those young people crying and becoming so emotional when PBO made the announcement was very moving to people. I suspect that is the way to go with ACA – images of ordinary people ecstatic, crying with relief, happiness etc that the bill was passed (almost twice). Crowd scenes work very well in helping viewers identify with those represented onscreen. One of the best, most emtional clips that TOD has ever uploaded comes from the National Geographic documentary on Pete Souza (about 2 or three minutes on the passing of ACA). Hope this suggestion isn’t too presumptious.
Donna – I’m going to email a suggestion to the White House – not the campaign – that they immediately use MY TAX DOLLARS by issuing letters explaining the provisions of the ACA and send them to each household in America, so the truth can go directly to the masses. The letter can be signed by President Obama, similar to letters that have gone out in the past when people are getting across-the-board rebate checks and the like (including seniors). That is a legitimate governmental expense.
Fools who do not actually know what’s in ACA but continue to listen to FOX, et al., should get these letters. And the letters could borrow from a phrase going’ round recently, that I loved, used in a postscript:
P.S. I love the sound you make when you STFU. /s/ PBO
…Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) took a heck of a shot at Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) Friday on a conference call organized by the Obama campaign following the Supreme Court’s health care ruling.
“The only health care mandate they can embrace are transvaginal probes for women,” he said of Republicans. McDonnell signed a mandatory ultrasound bill in March that required women to have an ultrasound before getting an abortion. The bill was later revised, allowing women to opt for an abdominal ultrasound.
Mitt Romneyβs campaign has raised $4.2 million in online donations since the Supreme Court health care ruling, press secretary Andrea Saul tweeted early Friday:
Fundraising update for #FullRepeal: 42k+ donations, $4.2 million raised online for @MittRomney since #scotus decision
β Andrea Saul (@andreamsaul) June 29, 2012
I have to say, after the media jerked us around for weeks on this decision, I just have to keep pinching myself to realize ACA was upheld. I’m absolutely giddy this morning.
ON FREE RIDER PENALTY, MARCO RUBIO’S PROVIDES INCOHERENT WORD SALAD
With friends like Rubio…
By Steve Benen
————————————–
Now it’s falling on Rubio to defend Romney’s health care reform law, which happens to be nearly identical to President Obama’s health care reform law. Specifically, Rubio was tasked with explaining why Obama’s tax penalty for failing to have insurance is outrageous, but Romney’s identical tax policy for failing to have insurance is perfectly acceptable.
The defense isn’t coming together especially well (thanks to Dan Sachar for the tip).
The immediate response to the Democrats’ tax rebuttal from Republicans was less than impressive.
Romney “supported it on the state level. Which means if you didn’t like it in Massachusetts, you could move to another state,” Rubio said on Bloomberg Television. “What are people supposed to do? Leave the United States now because of Barack Obama’s brilliant idea to stick the IRS on millions of people? More importantly, the state of Massachusetts doesn’t have the IRS.”
I’m here.
Yes I noticed lol…first again!….

Totally agree, if not a date many years before that.
Their is DWS! She is on Thomas Roberts Show, sounds like She has a sore throat.
But, She is doing really good! We need Her.

Republican Congressman Admits GOP Has βNoβ Plan To Replace Obamacare
All this talking about healthcare these past 3 YEARS….nothing.Dead Zone. Zilch. Zip. Nada. Nobody Home.
This is what we can repeatedly and simply point out to our contacts, GOP has nothing to offer YOU. We can start our reminders with today’s admission, but the GOP have provided many examples with which we can continue the dialogue
Good morning all.

Just sayin’….
Obamacare being upheld may be one thing contributing. But it’s mostly that the EU got its act together and has a plan for stronger fiscal and political union, as well as a plan to prop up the banks from EU funds, rather than leaving it up to the member nations to do it.
LOL! That video is GREAT! I needed a good laugh this morning! Thanks for posting it, Chips! π
Welcome to the newbies here today. Hope you will be our permanent guests./ sd TOD’ers.
Isn’t it great! I’m so glad Chips opened up the guest list π

Got donations?-
In the wake of Mitt Romney’s 24-hour fundraising blitz, President Obama’s Chicago-based reelection campaign is claiming that they’ve actually raised more.
We Win!!!!!
what mitt would do:
‘are there no prisons? are there no workhouses?’
Huffpo also screwed this up why aren’t they “investigating” themselves?
firebaggers=teabaggers. They are nevah wrong and clueless. Fuck’em.
π
HuffPost blamed CNN for getting wrong. Proves, what the president said in April at WHCD, HuffPost links and posts other people’s hard work…..in this case, their mistake too, while Arianna Pockets the cash?
Other news outlets were relying on CNN.
They got their report from pox and tnn?
IN THEIR ZEAL TO REPORT BAD NEWS FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA THEY INSTEAD SHOWED US WHO THEY ARE. SHAMELESS WATER CARRIERS FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

Which would be bad.

I often wonder what is going on in Area 51 and Dugway AFB?
LOOK at how we pay for this?-
The highway, student loan and flood insurance package Congress is expected to approve today includes provisions that would raise $20 billion in new tax and fee revenues from companies.
One of the new measures would adjust the way pension liabilities are measured for companies. Currently, companies are generally required to contribute more into their pension plans because interest rates are at historic lows.

Will know more, LL, in the next 48 h. ~ 10 days ago when I suggested that we would likely see significant events in the days ahead we already had hints that the momentum had clearly shifted to the FSA. I was able to raise $500 myself yesterday in both small and large donations, thanks to the gorgeous generous people here. Every dollar counts and every donation is just a complete THRILL. You are all just beyond amazing.
I’m so happy for you π
Thanks to you, sistah!
Go meta.

Did you guys know it was Solicitor General Don Verrill’s birthday? He is totally going to get wasted.
Happy B’Day to DV. Great job in arguing before the Supremes.
While that Jeffrey Tobin mix plays in the background.
Interesting!

No more grace period on student loans

Four Reasons Why The Courtβs Decision To Uphold Obamacare Is Good News For The Economy
http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/06/28/505510/four-reasons-why-the-courts-decision-to-uphold-obamacare-is-good-news-for-the-economy/
great!
I would love to hear the reaction of Malia and Sasha to the Leno video.
Yes!
Thanks for remembering “the others,” meta!
I saw and retweeted that, Meta. Thanks
That video is hilarious
Happy friday to all!
oh & I did donate to 4 of you yesterday.. so I’m still paying attention π
So sorry for your loss sherijr {{{{hugs and prayers}}}}.
thank you jojo.. they were both elderly and failing a bit, but they went suddenly and it has been tough on their kids & grandkids… and everyone is at my mom’s house- so she’s wearing herself out a bit- its been hard on her.. anyhow, we’re coping and spending time together w/ cousins I haven’t seen in years- so theres good here too.
Condolences to you and your family, sherijr. Hope things are going well in your big move.
My condolences sherijr.
My condolences, as well, sherijr. So sorry to hear that.
Oh sherijr, so sorry to hear that, what a painful week for you and your family. Take care of yourself, thinking of you.
Thank you meta, Jackie, & Chips for your kind words, I appreciate all of you.
Sorry to hear that sheri. Hope you and your family will cope up with these losses.
thank you amk.. they’re a sturdy bunch and it helps having everyone together… we’ve had lots of food, drink & laughter too.
Great to know that you have a strongly knit family. Best wishes.
Peace and Blessing sherijr.
thank you Dakota ~
Sherijr, I know I am real late on this thread, but my heart felt condolence to you and your family on the lost of your aunties. I hope you are doing well. From your initial post you are a true testimonial to Character.
My sympathy, Sheri, on the loss of the aunts. I only have one of those left myself now. Aunts are special people.
/s/ PBO
Love my gov!
Gov. O’Malley is the frickin’ bomb. Can we clone him?!
Isn’t that the BEST kind of tax?
Mitt Romneyβs campaign has raised $4.2 million in online donations since the Supreme Court health care ruling, press secretary Andrea Saul tweeted early Friday:
Fundraising update for #FullRepeal: 42k+ donations, $4.2 million raised online for @MittRomney since #scotus decision

Small donors ?????????????
