President Obama, Democratic Senator Michael Bennet and Republican Representative Doug Lamborn arrive at Colorado Springs Municipal Airport

A Kentucky woman who lost both legs shielding her children from a tornado walked arm-in-arm with President Barack Obama into the Oval Office on Friday.

The visit by Stephanie Decker came just under four months after the twister wrecked her home in Henryville, Ky. She had tied a blanket around the children and thrown herself on top of them when falling debris crushed her legs.

… When not using a wheelchair, Decker, 37, is able to walk for extended periods using prosthetic limbs…. Decker was joined by her son Dominic, 9, daughter Reese, 6, and husband Joe, 42, for the Oval Office visit, which came just before Obama flew to Colorado to view damage from the state’s wildfires.

It followed a handwritten letter from Obama and a follow-up phone call from the President while she was in the hospital.

ROMNEY’S STRATEGY – “A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.”

    Chronicling Mitt’s Mendacity – (Volume #24)

    By Steve Benen

    1. Following the Supreme Court’s ruling on Arizona’s anti-immigrant law, Romney said “we are still waiting” for President Obama “to present an immigration plan.”

No, actually, we’re not. Obama endorsed a comprehensive reform plan years ago, and presented his own detailed plan more than a year ago.

    2. At a campaign event in Salem, Virginia, Romney said Obama had “all the support he needed” in Congress to pass immigration legislation during his first two years in office.

That’s plainly false. There were Democratic majorities in both chambers, but not enough to overcome Republican filibusters.

    3. At the same event, Romney said Obama “did not deal with immigration” policy.

Sure he did. Obama introduced a comprehensive immigration reform proposal; he increased deportations; he strengthened border security; and he used his prosecutorial discretion to implement the goals of the DREAM Act. Romney may not approve of these policies, but he should deny their existence.

    4. Romney also argued that Obama “promised” to keep unemployment “below 8 percent” through the Recovery Act.

As Romney surely knows by now, that’s simply not true.

Steve Benen is doing a great job chronicling Romney’s lies. Sadly few people get to read his column. The big news media, with far reaching megaphones, are completely silent when it comes to Romney’s lies.

Glenn Beck Sells Tee Shirts Calling John Roberts A ‘Coward’ |

After yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling upholding the individual mandate of the Affordable Care Act, conservative politicians turned on Chief Justice John Roberts for siding with liberal justices and ruling the mandate constitutionally sound.

Critics of the decision even edited his Wikipeida page to call him a “chief traitor” and “coward,” and suggested his epilepsy medicine cause “cognitive problems.” Conservative commentator Glenn Beck got in on the action, labeling the chief justice the “Dread Pirate Roberts” and quickly setting up his online store to sell a tee shirt with Roberts’s face and the word “coward” below above it. Here’s a picture of the shirt, on sale for a mere $30:

Does MSNBC really want to employ SE Cupp who also works for Beck…..Does CNN really want to employ Will Cain who works for Beck ?

      June 29, 2012 at 3:25 pm

I could run into the street and insist that the sky is green, and demand that a declaration be proclaimed that the sky is green. If I got enough people to agree with me, get the media to repeatedly report that my stance on the green-ness of the sky had merit, file a lawsuit and take the case all the way up to the Supreme Court, riding a wave of deranged anger – would the sky miraculously turn green? These right wingers who hoodwinked the nation into thinking that the law was unconstitutional, simply because they declared it to be so – they should be ashamed. And anyone buying or sporting that tee shirt about Roberts is simply declaring their stupidity. They don’t know what’s in the Constitution, and they don’t even seem to care.

Sure they do! People will watch regardless of who they put on these shows and the management at these networks know this. Cupp and Cain were vetted for their associations before they were hired. These cable networks know exactly what they are getting. They love the controversy and confrontation that these “players” will play on their infotainment cable shows.

You may be to young to remember, but there use to be a show on called the David Susskind Show. What I remember most was that he would have guests who had two extreme opinions on an issue. No way were these people ever going to agree. Same thing here. You put someone like the Cupp woman on with liberals, all you’re going to get is arguing. It’s a waste of time and space. PBO’s speech was short and sweet, but he did tap the podium when he finished… He thanked the mayor, local officials and firefighters.

Talked about how AMERICANS come together during national tragedies. How we should thank them 365 days a year, not just when our house is on fire, or the neighborhood is threatened. Y’all DO know that he’s a genius, right??? 😎 😎

Unlike that lying Republican candidate ( Mitt Romney ) who think we don’t need them,or policemen, or teachers. I’m so thankful we have a President who has a heart who truly cares about people, who doesn’t just see them as a tool to get him elected.

PBO handled this in a classy way. He just gave the firefighters a salute and praised them for their work and how we should thank them 365 days a year, not just when there is a fire. It would have been easy for him to politicize this, as the Republicans are trying to do, by saying, “Some people (and we all know who he would be referring to) think we don’t need more firefighters…”
But as usual, he chose the high road.

White House cursing is not a BFD

    By Steve Benen

Eric Fehrnstrom, Romney’s senior adviser, said language like this is “not presidential.” (Follow up question for Fehrnstrom: your campaign believes in heckling and sending a bus to drive around in circles while honking. Is that “presidential”?)

But before these questions about political cursing make the rounds too much, let’s also pause to note recent history. When George W. Bush decided to launch an unnecessary war, he proclaimed, “F**k Saddam, we’re taking him out.” When Dick Cheney ran into Pat Leahy on the Senate floor in 2004, he said, “Go f**k yourself.”

During a discussion on immigration policy a few years ago, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) screamed at Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), saying “F**k you! This is chickens**t stuff.” On the campaign trail a few months ago, former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.), who positions himself as a virtues champion of traditional values, blasted a reporter’s question as “bulls**t.”

Very few cabinet members stick around for a second term. In fact, PBO has had remarkable loyalty from his cabinet, there is usually a bigger turnover even in the first term than he has had, specially when you consider the abuse that has been rained down on this adminsitration. One of the most frustrated has to be LaHood, who is an honest and full of integrity type of guy. Watching what his former Republican colleagues are doing to prevent him from being able to do his job has to be awful.

ok… I checked….and I guess someone asked him in one of the hearing on June 12. Here was his answer….as usual the MSM mucked it up.

Attorney General Eric Holder said Tuesday he doesn’t know if he’ll stay in his job if President Barack Obama wins a second term in November.

“What my future holds, frankly, I’m just not sure,” Holder said during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, when asked point blank if he plans to stay in Obama’s administration.

Holder said that question is ultimately up to Obama. Pressed on whether he would stay if the president asked him to, Holder simply said he has enjoyed his time as attorney general but that “it’s been a tough job.”

“It is one that takes a lot out of you,” he said. “Some have raised concerns about whether I was tough enough. I hope people will see … [that I] stuck by my guns … I’ve lost some, I’ve won more than I’ve lost. This has been the highlight of my career.”

              • June 29, 2012 at 4:20 pm

Thanks, Linda. Hmmmmm, I should think POTUS would stick by him for another term but I hear what he’s saying. This kind of service is a tremendous sacrifice for those who serve and their families. I love these people in his cabinet.

The White House statement from press secretary Jay Carney:

“We are pleased that Congress has finally passed a bipartisan bill to stop student loan interest rates from doubling and put Americans to work rebuilding our nation’s roads and bridges. For months, President Obama has been calling on Congress to take up these two important priorities before middle class families pay the price for inaction. Thanks to Congress heeding that call today, millions of American students will avoid a $1,000 debt hike while millions of construction workers will be able to stay on the job. But there is still much more Congress can do to create jobs and grow the economy, and the President will keep up pressure until they pass pieces of his American Jobs Act that independent economists say could put us on the path of creating another million jobs.”

Our Failed Fourth Estate is to Blame for Obamacare Disconnect

    By Nicole Belle

So why the disconnect? In a nutshell, it’s because the Fourth Estate has completely failed us.

Think about it. Why is it that no one understands how business and individuals will be impacted, as JJ Ramberg explains what a small percentage of small businesses are affected by the ACA in a rare moment of constructive information on Tamron Hall’s NewsNation on MSNBC? Because it never gets reported.

Journalism isn’t simply saying, “The Republicans say that Obamacare will do xxx…” That’s regurgitation. A true journalist would provide the correct information to enable his or her viewer to evaluate the truthfulness of the claim. But all those high-paid Villagers in New York and DC can’t be bothered, leaving it to us bloggers to hope our small voices reaches past the noise machine:

Sadly, 2e all know this to be true but it is so necessary to write it, tweet it, and make it well known. Thanks for posting it.

So they are not resigning because their religion says black folks will be slaves in Heaven. Okay.

Actually, that enters into it, I think.

Among the reasons cited by those resigning are the church’s political activism against gay marriage; doctrinal teachings that conflict with scientific findings or are perceived as racist or sexist; and inconsistencies in the church’s explanation of its own history, including the practice of polygamy.

I don’t see anything related to it at all.

Every time I read something about the Mormon religion, I run into strange, unique teachings—–they believe Native Americans are of Jewish descent? That’s a new one. But then—any belief that began with someone’s desire to “marry” multiple young girls may be just a tad suspect.

Yes, they believe they’re one of the 12 Tribes of Israel and that Jesus appeared to NA after he worse from the dead. I tend to be non-religious and find organized religion in general suspect, but I usually place Mormonism in a category similar to $cientology.

More freakin’ evidence of our corrupt media. This will make you sick and this time it’s NPR. From BJ:

And this my friend is why I cannot stand our media. It is ALL propaganda. We are being hoodwinked everyday and the public doesn’t have a clue. SMDH 🙄

Exactly my sentiments, Donna! Most of our media are now the propaganda arm of the Republican party. Sadly most Americans still rely on them. I have friends, who are otherwise very smart people, who watch CNN religiously and listen to NPR. They are convinced that what they watch and hear everyday is the objective truth. I’ve been urging them to use their critical thinking whenever they watch CNN or listen to NPR. But the “power of habit” is so hard to break.

That is really amazing. Or—-maybe I cease to be amazed at the continuous peddling of pure junk. A Rove disciple. Our news media is failing this country.

Yoo Hoo, I see you O~O on this great getting up day in TODville. Sorry I got here so late, let the games begin!!! Good news in the cookemom household. #2 who has been trying to find herself, rather than furthering her summa cum laude degree in biology, was very concerned about how the health care ruling could have knocked her off my insurance. So afraid in fact that she has decided to get back to school in the sciences. I’m hoping medical, but she says she won’t stop again til a phd in anthropology. See, they can be scared straight. (fingers crossed).

Political take today is, fired up ready to go!! I’m on my way to the thread that listed folks FR pages. Getting ready to drop a little summin, summin in honor of #2 realizing that she really already knew where she was, just needed a jolt of real life.

No big changes in the House of Representatives? People are really going to re-elect the party of NO to get things done? WTF? We have a LOT of work to do if that happens! I will never forget they predicted a GOP House and were right. This makes me determined to work harder.
