Justice Antonin Scalia needs to resign from the Supreme Court.
…. So often, Scalia has chosen to ignore the obligation of a Supreme Court justice to be, and appear to be, impartial. He’s turned “judicial restraint” into an oxymoronic phrase. But what he did this week, when the court announced its decision on the Arizona immigration law, should be the end of the line.
…. what boggles the mind is that Scalia thought it proper to jump into this political argument. And when he went on to a broader denunciation of federal policies, he sounded just like an Arizona Senate candidate.
…. Scalia should free himself to pursue his true vocation. We can then use his resignation as an occasion for a searching debate over just how political this Supreme Court has become.

NYT: President Obama plans to travel to Colorado on Friday to tour areas devastated by raging wildfires, the White House said on Wednesday. One of the fires, in the foothills near Colorado Springs, has burned 24 square miles, destroyed an unknown number of homes and forced some 26,000 people to evacuate.
Mr. Obama called Gov. John Hickenlooper and Mayor Steve Bach of Colorado Springs, the state’s second-largest city, to get an update on the blaze, known as the Waldo Canyon Fire…

Morning everyone – could be a long day.
first?
Morning Euqinoresqm, morning everyone.
YES WE DO! 😀
Yes, we do. Yes We can. Whatever the outcome, President Obama and the American people will prevail!!!
Good morning, TODville. It’s early here. Can’t sleep.
But this is good news:
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I LOOOOOOVE our Obama 2012 team and I LOOOOOOVE our ground game.
Great news, meta! I’m staying on TOD and Twitter today and avoiding MSM vultures. Hoping for 100% Obamacare victory and that 100% of Dems walk out on the contempt vote. It’s all or nothing at this point, because our country is almost at a fully “alternate universe” state. Oh, and, by the way: Romney Go Home and take McCain and Issa and Scalia with ya.
Twitter’s probably gonna crash today but just remember – this time it wasn’t me.
are you fessing up already meta? 😛
Good morning, CJ!!
Hiya meta…wishing you lots of luck with your twitter campaign today.
Meta,
sorry to have to inform you that it appears as though Twitter has ALREADY crashed this morning. I tried multiple times to send a tweet and no it will not go and gives some comment about the hang up or error
Sometimes it does act glitchy when you try to RT. A few days ago it crashed for over an hour and then crashed again.
I am going to miss it all today, because I can’t get TOD or twitter on the job. I should have taken today off. I will be in total darkness on the news until I get home tonight. Yikes. Meta, I trust you and TODers will be out her fighting the good fight. Have a good day.
Big day today. Best wishes guyz.
There you are…just remember you are cheering for which team….ding ding…you are correct Jogi Löw and his boys!
I like pizzas. 🙂
No way, with a guy call Buffon, come on…you know you are cheering for the Lion and his cubs… 😛
I like italian ‘dishes’. 🙂
Good day, amk. Thanks for being among us.
Big day indee, amk. No matter what the verdict, PBO will prevail because he’s always been about doing the right thing by the American people. Have a great day. As I said up thread, I won’t know much of anything until I get home, cause I can’t access TOD or twitter on the job.
Good morning/after/evening TODville, (waves to Mayor Chips, looks around or amk). Just a reminder that lots of breathing will be required of all PBO supporters today, as there will be all sorts of comments/punditry/hyperventilating about the ACA ruling. No matter the ruling, we will still need to roll up our sleeves and work hard to reelect PBO. Hats off to the twitter brigade…you guys are doing an awesome job. And to our dear Mayor Chips, thank you for this space and for all that you do. And thanks to all TODville residents, lurkers and squatters who come here to share and get information.
4 more for 44!
Forward!
It is still about HOPE and it is still about CHANGE!
GM CJ, Chips, meta (twitter beware).
Let’s hope supremes have some sense and basic decency at least for a day.
AMK,
you may be hoping for too much from a court that stole our election for shrub and then gave us Citizens United
thanks for the encouragement.
I agree. No hair on fire for me no matter how it falls out. In the words of Josiah Bartlett, “what is next”? The president always moves forward and so will we.
Have a great day everyone.
I’m with you, Ceb! Forward! We have the vote in our hot little hands, in November!
Third! Ha! I can hardly concentrate on work thinking about what the day holds…
Wish the Supreme Court would see the mandate as just another tax.
Morning Chips and everyone…….good luck neighbors!…..
I thought when I got up this morning [hours ago!] that it would seem like forever until the decision came out, but the time is speeding and we are only a couple of hours away now. I have never worried about this decision, and I sure hope I have been right.
I like your confidence osg. All Fingers XXXXX XXXXX
The NYTimes is reporting the JPMorgan Chase loss may reach $9 billion.
twitterati say that dimon is toast ? Good omen for today ?
What surprised me about reading the number…I just shrugged and thought ‘of course it is higher than initially reported, isn’t it always.’
I really do think that most of those guys are “banksters.”
But but but Dimon says he is in control and please repeal Dodd/Frank! Pleeeease!
Sarbox gets totally ignored doesn’t it, what was the point of it anyway (for show)…if he is in control, then according to Sarbox, he should be held accountable (not holding my breath though…it’s like Enron never happened).
Bob Corker (R-TN) will have to call Dimon and tell him he is even greater than he thought during the hearing.
Meanwhile, Corker says, Mr Dimon Sir, but I still have that cozy Bankers job when I retire, right?
Think of the healthcare THAT could have bought….. astonishing
Good thing we did not have Soledad Obrien around for the battle of Gettysburg, in the Civil War.
She Probably would have obnoxiousky stated it’s bad news for Lincoln.
She is terrible.
No great loss if CNN gets rid of her ass!
Good Morning!
LOL!
TeaNN is a joke at this point..
If she goes then all of them need to go. O’Brien is no better or worse than the rest of them.
Good Morning.
TeaNN has been misinforming America about the ACA since 5 AM.
Soledad is bad, right up their with S.E, Crapp!
Today is a very important day in the political and legal history of this nation and in my personal life all due to the SCOTUS rulling on ACA.
something bothering me is WHY a majority of the 9 people who receive guaranteed government-funded healthcare may choose to determine the fate of so many millions of people by limiting the chance of these millions to have access to options of care
Maybe because the Roberts Court does not like this President! Maybe?
Roger Simon had a good article about the SC yesterday, too bad he works at Politico but it was a good read.
Our Supreme Court has lost its honor
”Once upon a time, in a place called America, there was a government with three equal branches. That America no longer exists.
One branch now rules American life.
It is the Supreme Court, and it consists of nine people elected by nobody. They rule for life. Their power is absolute.
To overrule them requires an amendment to the Constitution, a process so politically difficult, it is nigh on impossible. (The most recent amendment, the 27th, which deals with congressional salaries, took 203 years to ratify.)”.
Of all the gazillion reasons to reelect President Obama, this for me is number one by far…….
Absolutely, ChristiMTL.
GM all. I live in Sydney, Australia and have excellent health care. I have been following the health care battle in the US for the last three years. I always took my health care for granted until I heard all the horror stories from the US. Just want everyone to know that all around the world people support what you are doing and we wish you all the very best of luck today. I so desperately want the law to stand. Whatever happens keep pushing and moving forward – don’t let anything get you down. In solidarity – Cluny.
Thank you, cluny, for your words of encouragement.
I so agree ”all around the world people support what you are doing and we wish you all the very best of luck today.”
Thank you so much:) Seems like we have been dealing with this forever…..millions have died for lack of it. What an embarrassment…that the richest and most powerful country in the world, has Third World access to healthcare for its citizens….and worse yet, that people want to KEEP it that way. American Exceptionalism my ass.
To the right-wing haters, the GOP and their allies: “you evolve or you evaporate.” I heard this quote from Usher and thought that it was appropriate for these groups.
Ok you guys so I remember that we are tweeting today to support eric holder with hashtag #isupportagholder and also adding #tweeps4obama. Are we tweeting our congress person or our senate people? I can’t remember.

and if you don’t know who your congress person is here’s Linda’s list over at WiW:

Good article this morning on cnbc on housing recovery. This is good news for John McCain and his 7 houses! 🙂
http://www.cnbc.com/id/47990147
But with each passing year, an eventual recovery has grown more likely. Prices have continued to fall, and the economy has continued to recover, a combination that has expanded the pool of potential buyers. The population has continued to grow while few new homes have been built.
Basic indicators of market health that bulged during the bubble, like the ratio of housing prices to income, have returned to more normal levels.
Government efforts to help homeowners have intensified, allowing more borrowers to refinance or avoid foreclosure.
“All bets are off if anything happens to the economy, but apart from that, I think the fundamentals look better than they’ve looked in 17 or 18 years,” said Richard K. Green, a professor of real estate at the University of Southern California.
Professor Green cited the combination of rising rents and low mortgage rates as a powerful inducement to potential buyers, both renters who would prefer to own and investors who want to become landlords.
Republicans won’t replace Obamacare, Boehner promises Rush Limbaugh.
Nobody know the ruling yet….I have hope…….
I don’t like to use the word ”evil”….but these Republicains have a lot of evil in them…..greed before humanity
this is not ‘off topic’, considering the ruling that will be released within the next few hours.
I woke up early and saw that my face – upper lip and down the sides — was swollen about 8 times normal size. No breathing problems, but I took my asthma med right away.
I had read a diary a few weeks ago about a woman who had lost her health insurance and she had an allergic reaction. She made strong coffee and took Benadryl. I sent my husband to the pharmacy at 5:30 a.m.for the benadryl (thank GOD for city living) and the swelling is starting to come down.
I should have gone to ER. But without insurance, the ER bill for a shot of epinephrine would have been well over $1,000, if not more.
I bought some organic greens at the farmer’s market yesterday and munched on them without washing first. I’m pretty sure that was the cause but I can’t be certain.
Very scary.
Please be very careful. I worry about allergic reactions. The shock it causes almost made me lose my son at the age of 2. If it does not get better soon….go to ER. There is no amount of money in the world that is worth your health.
Oh, I will definitely go to ER. It’s getting better but it’s not gone. I have asthma and can’t afford to screw around. It is improving but it was horrifying. I looked like some kind of deformed monster. It was very, very bad.
Scalia has no place on the bench. His antics are not worthy of the Supreme Court. http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/justice-scalias-partisan-discredit-to-the-court/2012/06/27/gJQAoVEG7V_story.html
Solidarity, my TOD family.
I offer my support to all of you and your fellow Americans on this Day in your Country’s History. Today is going to be a great day and whatever happens with regards to the ACA decision President Obama wins.
Over the coming months there will be lots of discussions regarding the decision and people will finally know what it actually contains. Should it be struck down I feel certain that there will be protests and demonstrations and it will surely backfire on the republicans as they will not be able to contain themselves. Remember they have no solution, no plan.
I stand with PBO and I stand with you. Forward!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, I was watching bill press and he seemed more concerned about medicate for all, than the outcome of ACA!
Then, Alan Green on Ed Show, says he will personally lead the fight for Medicare for all.
It seems, the far left could care less about the ACA and ate Only focused on Medicare for all! Because, it is so realistic?
What rock did Green crawl from under? Disingenuous fellow.
I can See it now, Scalia, Roberts, with their top Hats on sipping lemonade on the front porch, of a Plantation.
At least, that is what I envisioned, while they made their decision on ACA!
Great quote…..not sure if I read it hear or elsewhere
” If you didn’t hear it with your own ears or see it with your own eyes, don’t invent it with your small mind and share it with your big mouth.”
I’ve seen that…maybe even posted that. how appropriate that is!
Okay…in real shock here. I got my new voter ID card. I am in Ted Deutch’s district now. The lines in FL were redrawn. I will be in FL-22 for 2012. Right now that is Allen West. Please pray Patrick Murphy wins. I will do everything in my power to make sure PBO gets re elected and Allen West will get committed after Patrick Murphy wins.
“Allen West will get committed” that sounds about right!
Anyone know at what time is the contempt vote ?….what a travesty, what a disgrace…..they make me sick.
No wonder the picked today of all the day,…
Afternoon! The Black caucus are all walking out in tandem.
Me thinks, all Democrats(except blue dogs) will do the same!
I hope so!…all in solidarity….
Morning TOD.. Stay positive and HOPE the Supreme Court follows the Constitution in its decision on Obamacare today. If theydo, the law stands.

Yep…it is a Carnival for sure.
Strippers and Pimps outside! Yup! That about does it!
Good morning Chips and TODville! I am at a big convention here in Salt Lake City. There are 5000some people here from.all over the world. Yesterday during the general session I was shocked to hear President Obama speaking with music in the background as things were announced to the audience. Nothing was every said about the President. I was very shocked. All i can say is I think yhis was subliminal endorsement of the President. No politics are being talked about here at all. I just wanted you all to know you never known who is supporting this President. We will prevail.!
Utah is beautiful, Purple Mountains Majesty!
Quick personal anecdote. My wife is a nurse in a large family practice. She keeps asking my thoughts on what the SC will do. Most of the doctors and management are true red Republicans and go out of their way to rip PBO. She was telling me about how many calls they get from patients asking for them to please prescribe something over the phone because they don’t have insurance and can’t afford to come into the office. As she put it, only the people with bunches of money don’t care if they have insurance or not. Nobody else goes without insurance because they don’t want insurance, they go without insurance because they can’t afford it. She is off work today but told me when I left to call her the moment anything is announced. She refuses to watch anything but HGTV today. she is so afraid the court is going to strike everything down.
Got this from SCOTUS Blog:
Although the Health Care decision undoubtedly makes this one of the most momentous terms in recent memory, next term promises to be a blockbuster as del — the Court is going to decide a big case on affirmative action in college admissions, probably will hear a challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act, and will likely decide the Constitutionality of an important part of the Voting Rights Act.
Good luck POTUS, champion of the people. Best of luck to the unisured and underinsured
I think everybodty is holding their collective breath at this time. Go ahead people, breath. Nothing that happens today is going to stop us from moving forward.
Wise Words Japa21
We have no control over the decision that will be made today we only have control over how we react to it.
My plan is to fundraise like crazy today regardless of the outcome. I hope others try and do something positive to keep us moving forward as well.
May the (positive) Force be with us today 😉
OMG I’m so late today….
Action Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We need to hit the phones, emails, faxes and calls to Boehner and Cantor’s office as well as any Congressional Rep who might vote Yes on the contempt vote.
House of Representative Main Phone #
(202) 224-3121
I just called Boehner’s office and spoke to his aide (Grant). Be polite but let them know that this vote is political and that you want him to be working for the people and just exactly where are the jobs?
Remember the hastag for twitter is #ISupportAGHolder
Morning GF. Can you post the candle link? I do it from home anymore.
Here you go:

Thank you Meta. 74 candles lit now. Was 48 when I posted mine.
If they do vote to hold him in contempt then what happens from there?
The Inspector General decides if there are grounds for a trial. I do expect it to not go any further. But damage will have been done.
‘tell them that it’s still about HOPE, it’s still about CHANGE’ …President Barack Obama.
Forward!!!
I am nervous but also strangely confident that Kennedy will side with the law. Fingers crossed and hope alive.
I agree although I worry about the corporation influence. Justice is no longer blindfolded.
It may be a long shot but I think Roberts and possibly Alito will do the same.
Excellent Rise and Shine roundup to start our day, Chips! Thanks for providing this oasis where we may gather and support President Obama, Obamacare, and AG Holder!
Good morning! Hoping for a good day!
Good for them.
cspan is saying the Holder vote is at noon.
They also have cameras outside the Supreme Court.
Here is the candle link if anyone would like to go reflect, pray or meditate for the next few minutes.

80 lit now!
Here we go……They’ll probably announce the other two cases first and ACA last.
Thursday is the day. Here is our schedule, all times EDT. 8:45a – liveblog begins with introductory explanation. 9a-10a – answers to your questions. 10a-1045a (appx) – decision announcements. We expect the health care decision to be announced at roughly 10:15a. 1045a-1p – live coverage and analysis.
OT, someone in previous thread(s), living in Baltimore, was asking about volunteering in MD. Here’s an activity taking place this Saturday:
The presidential election is going to be decided by some small margins of victory in a few key states — and two of them are right next door. That’s why we have an important role to play in making sure Virginia and Pennsylvania come out for President Obama and Democrats up and down the ticket.
Interested? Volunteers are meeting up in Bethesda on Saturday, June 30th. Sign up here to join the day of action and help reach out to folks in one of our neighbor states.
Our counterparts in Virginia and Pennsylvania already have a great ground game of their own, but the challenge in front of them is pretty steep. If you can go door to door and have conversations with people there who haven’t yet decided how they’ll vote, it’ll give them a big lift.
Plus, hitting the road with us this summer and fall will be one of the most fun — and meaningful — experiences you can have between now and November.
You’ll get to know other volunteers from across the region who are deeply committed to President Obama’s vision for the country — and as you organize together, you’ll get to swap stories and make some new friends.
And it’s super easy: We’ll deal with all the logistics and help you organize carpools.
All you need is a free Saturday and a desire to get involved in a big way.
So sign up now for the day of action event this Saturday, and get ready to have some fun and help make sure Pennsylvania and Virginia go our way in November:

Geeze.
Supreme Court rules it IS LEGAL to claim falsely that you are a combat veteran.
Here is a RWNJ’s comment on a local AZ blog regarding the Fortune article on Fast/Furious:

Your lack of credibility is only reinforced by columns like this. 2500 high powered weapons put into the hands of criminals to make a political point. Only you would have sufficient hypocrisy to defend this. how many people have died as a result of this market flooding?
