Again, why this is a BFD – comment over at Booman’s place:

Re: How Are You Feeling? (none / 1)
Very relieved.  I’m one of those people who would have likely lost his health coverage this week.  I run a small company with my partner, who suffered a massive stroke in 2009.  He has probably cost UHC $2 million since then and it will continue forever this way.  Had the law been struck down and rescission and pre-existing conditions been made legal again, there’s no doubt that UHC would drop us today. And then I’d be out on the individual market and my wife has a pre-existing condition so we’d be screwed, my partner and his family would go bankrupt, and a very sick guy could lose this battle.
Bravo, Obama!  I’m proud to have you as our president!

Re: How Are You Feeling? (none / 1)
I’m actually hopeful that I won’t be watching any more of my friends die too young from diseases that could have been treatable if caught early. I’ve buried too many too close to my heart from late-stage cancers in the last couple years – they had no insurance coverage and got the diagnoses too late. It will be good to enjoy what the rest of the civilized world has enjoyed for ages – universal healthcare. Time to breathe a few sighs of relief.

It is hilarious that during the “Dewey Defeats Truman” time the spin was that the mandate being struck down was a huge blow for the Obama administration, and now the spin is that leaving ACA alive as an issue for the election is a huge blow for the Obama administration.

I just realized one thing. This ruling on ACA changes the political context for the contempt vote in the House this afternoon. To a great majority of americans, the vote against Holder will now look like the act of sore losers who want revenge. Mark my words, the republicans will pay for this outrageous vote.

I concur. After the big expose from Fortune Magazine regarding the lies about ‘fast & furious’, the rethugs better step lightly, which is something they have never been able to do. They will step in shit so deep, they will be stuck for the next 4 months.

I predict a landslide victory for PBO in November. The case against Robme is building. I don’t see a way back for him. This is going to be so ugly. I believe many Teabaggers will be so demoralized by the time the election rolls around, most will stay home. Dems may win super majority. Good Times.

    Good Morning TOD family

    CALL TO COMPLIMENT

I would suggest that as folks send tweets, email or make calls you follo the President’s lead and talk about how the law average Americans, not discuss the politics.

Now this last suggestion probably has some of you scratching your heads or thinking I am a bit crazy, but I would respectfully suggest we thank Justice Roberts. I am hopeful that when he learns about how his actions are helping my family and millions of other families, he will feel a small portion of the happiness I feel today. Even if it does not end up mattering to him, it will matter to me, it will add to the joy of this day.

Nope. Not thanking Roberts. He didn’t uphold the law for atruistic reasons. It does benefit the insurance industry with millions of new customers. And he handed the Repubs that “increase in taxes” talking point that we’d better refute, and refute with grand outrage.

His job is not to be a lying, corporatist-whoring justice. He doesn’t get us fawning all over him because he did something right, for once.

The Oath for the Justices: I do solemnly swear that I will administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich; and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on me as according to the best of my abilities and understanding, agreeably to the constitution and laws of the United States.

That oath, with only minor changes, is the same one taken by Supreme Court justices to this day. Thankfully, Chief Justice John Roberts upheld this oath today. Thank you for your compassion for the American People

Health Care Decision A Victory For Everyone, Except Millions Of Poor People Maybe

    by Josh Fruhlinger

Good news, liberal-arts majors with Internet connections! Now even though you don’t have a “real job” but are making a livable amount of money by cobbling together three blogging gigs and so don’t have health insurance, starting in 2014 you will be able to (and also required) to stone-cold buy health insurance from whoever you want — even if you have a pre-existing condition (i.e., herpes, we are going to guess that herpes is what you have). But wait, do you only have one blogging job, or maybe no blogging job and you work in a Wal-Mart, or as one of Newt Gingrich’s janitors or something, and so you can’t even afford to buy insurance through the subsidized exchanges and you were kind of counting on the expansion of the Medicaid to cover you? Well, we’ve got good news! Oh, do you live in a state with a Republican governor and/or legislature? Then we mean “bad news…”

Just a quick note and something we dfo have to be ready to counteract. Many headlines say the Justices call mandate a tax. It is important to not that only one Justice, Roberts, did that. The other four said it qualified under the Commerce Clause. That is why it was so important that Ginsburg write the other majority opinion. Keep reminding people of that if they complain about it being a tax.

Interesting, and faulty, take at CNN Money, talking about sharp sell off after ACA upheld. Earlier it was stocks lower due to uncertainty in Europe. The market opened almost 100 points down, currently 137 down. That is hardly a sharp selloff post the ruling. They are trying to say the market drop (which is really rather small) is due to the ruling. However, most of the drop was before the ruling. But this is your librul media at work.
