There doesn’t seem to be much going on in MD with OFA, does any one from MD know where I can sign up to do something in VA? Thanks.

I too wondered why this construction barrier was in the road in place where there didn’t seem to be any construction going on. may be they were using them as a form of barricade to remind the people not to fall into the road as the motorcade went by.

I know you will understand in this family of supporters. I live and volunteer in a rural community that is basically all Republican. In 2008 as an Obama volunteer it struck me that the small group of Democrats that we first met at their monthly meeting were very ambivalent about the candidate Obama. We have been showing up at their meetings monthly for the last three and a half years and just being a respectful part of what is happening. Today the county Democratic chair told me that he thought the President would be proud to know that people like us are out there working for him. He has asked us to join him when he travels to other counties some times so he can introduce us to other people, to give him our OFA card so that he can it pass it to other rural Dems who might want to connect with us. It was a hard week in other ways because we had one of our Neighborhood Team Leaders beg off after so much time spent in training. This complement however (knowing where we started from) made up for the disappointment.

On the eve of the Supreme Court decision on health care – hours before the news cycle gets a major jolt – Team Obama offered something of a closing argument on a round of attacks against Mitt Romney as an “outsourcing pioneer.”

In a memo to reporters, Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt argues that, any way you slice it, companies Romney’s Bain Capital invested in and profited from were not benefiting American workers.

“What public documents and published accounts demonstrate is that Mitt Romney’s companies were pioneers in shipping American jobs overseas and profited from low wage foreign production facilities,” LaBolt concludes.

“These aren’t just idle questions about Mitt Romney’s past. Outsourcing not only costs Americans their jobs, but places downward pressure on wages,” he says. “Mitt Romney, drawing on the lessons and values he took from his experience as a corporate buyout specialist, has presented a tax plan that would provide additional incentives for American companies to ship jobs overseas.”

WASHINGTON — The Energy Department today announced new investments in state-led energy efficiency projects, supporting the Obama Administration’s commitment to reduce building energy costs and transfer those savings directly to taxpayers.  The Energy Department awarded nearly $14 million to 22 states and territories to conduct energy efficiency upgrades in public facilities and develop local policies and programs to help reduce energy waste and save taxpayer money.  These investments are part of the Energy Department’s national strategy to create jobs, boost domestic manufacturing in energy-saving technologies and help American families and businesses save money.

“Deploying energy efficiency in our buildings, vehicles, and industries creates jobs, grows markets for American-made products, reduces energy bills for families and businesses, and makes the American economy more competitive,” said Energy Secretary Steven Chu. “In support of President Obama’s all-of-the-above approach to American energy, these investments are part of the Department’s broader efforts to spur the development of a sustainable market for energy efficiency that will help protect our air and water and create jobs for American workers.”

The state-led projects announced today will conduct whole-building energy efficiency upgrades across hundreds of public buildings, saving millions for state and local governments and creating new local jobs for energy auditors, architects, engineers and construction workers.  The projects selected today fall under three categories, including:

On the eve of the Supreme Court’s health care decision, Vice President Joe Biden joined a chorus of Democratic warnings about what could be lost if the law is struck down.

At a meeting with seniors in Davenport, Iowa, Biden focused on how the Supreme Court’s decision could open a “doughnut hole” in Medicare funding, according to a pool report. Biden recalled paying for his mother’s prescription medication, and worried about who would bear the burden if seniors are unable to pay for their prescriptions.

“If we can’t fill the doughnut hole because they get rid of the health care law, how is that going to save your kids money?” he said. “It isn’t.

“There is going to be a big decision on this,” he added.

Biden said the Center for Active Seniors Inc. was a nice facility, adding that he worked to increase access to senior centers as a senator in Delaware. Earlier, Biden stopped for lunch at a diner in Manchester and picked up ice cream at a Hy-Vee Food Store in Dubuque, according to the pool report.

Totally OT, but need advice here. I got a solicitation call from Breast Cancer Society out of AZ. I have no idea how they got my number. Anyway, I asked the lady & she said that even if you’re on the do not call list , it doesn’t cover non profits. OK. What was weird is that I said that I’d never heard of them & before I donate I’d like to check them out. She hanged up promptly. Red flags were going off in my head while I was on the phone with her. So I hit The Google. And they were there in Mesa, AZ. Brief looksee on their website seems to connect them via that pink ribbon thingy, and articles. Couldn’t figure anything from their non-information-annual report Did they clean up the site? Most importantly, are they an offshoot of Komen? I will never, ever support anything connected to Susan G. Komen. Desserflower, I think you/re out there, have you heard of this org.?

        BUSTED! http://www.marieclaire.com/world-reports/news/breast-cancer-business-scams-2

The Breast Cancer Society, based in Mesa, Arizona, has made an art form of this kind of creative accounting. Founded in 2007 by James T. Reynolds II, now 37, the organization provides critically ill breast cancer patients across the country with cash grants to pay for everything from groceries to medical bills, Reynolds says. In 2009 (the most recent year for which tax records are available), the BCS claims it raised $50 million in contributions, the bulk of which went to supplying medicines to hospitals in Third World countries like Guatemala and Ethiopia, ostensibly for the treatment of breast cancer. (Reynolds says he has visited only three of the eight hospitals that purportedly received these medicines.) Press him on his group’s finances and he admits that, in fact, BCS raised just $15 million in cash donations in 2009. The other $35 million represented his estimate of medications that the BCS accepted as gifts or bought at a major discount but then listed on its books as having much higher values. For example, BCS reported that it sent $8.8 million worth of goods to hospitals in East Asia. “I’d have to look it up, but it probably cost us maybe $40,000 to procure and distribute that,” Reynolds concedes in a phone interview. Where do these medicines come from? Reynolds says he gets them from other organizations, including the Ontario-based Universal Aide Society, which saw its Canadian charitable status revoked two years ago for malfeasance. (Its employees used funds to finance vacations and other personal expenses.) This so-called “gifts in kind” scheme makes BCS seem a whole lot bigger than it actually is and obscures the fact that the group spent 90 cents of every dollar that it raised on telemarketers, not patients.

I love this sleuthing stuff. I damn well missed this calling in life…anyway, read the whole article. I NEVER donate to anyone that calls ME on the phone. EVER. If I want to donate, I will call the organization directly…that’s a win/win… with no worries if someone is scamming me. Now you know why she hung up on you:)

      June 27, 2012 at 11:58 pm

No, xtine…never heard of them…but will try and check them out and let you know. Sounds shady…especially since she hung up on you after you said that. A reputable org would have appreciated that. I’ll see what I can find…and you might think of reporting this to the Better Business Bureau.

Always trust those red flags, hair raising at the back of your neck, etc. It was a damn weird call. And here I was thinking it’s another Komen scam. I’ve never seen a non-profit so scant of their financial information, let alone their annual report. That was just a one sentence skinny — no meat, no frills, nada. Damn Effers are preying on other’s sorrows. I hope they end up in Issa’s cesspool tomorrow.

This HAS to be made into an ad. Has to.

Romney held a campaign rally at EIT, LLC, a small electronics design and manufacturing firm nestled in an industrial park near Dulles Airport.

The company, run by state Rep. Joe May, has also received praise for making 99 percent of its products inside the country, and because newly expanded operations allow it to bring jobs back to the U.S. from Hungary and China. But EIT still touts its ablilty to offer customers the chance to take their projects overseas.

“High-volume manufacturing requirements are supported through an alliance with a large global EMS provider that also includes low cost region (LCR) manufacturing sites,” reads EIT’s “about us” page. LCR is a term generally associated with offshore locations in Asia and Latin America.

    On the company’s “Manufacturing” page:

Will you outgrow EIT? Through our alliance with Zollner Electronics, EIT has the ability to support high volume requirements from our USA based Virginia locations. EIT has access to Zollner’s 2.6+ million square feet of manufacturing resources in their fifteen campus locations worldwide with some facilities located low cost regions (LCR).

Not only that…it received stimulus funds…you can’t make this stuff up.

No, tonight is about the Democrats who are lining up to vote with the teahadist Republicans, who have aligned themselves with literal terrorists in order to destroy the Obama administration in an election year. Standing tall with the traitors to our country who can’t vote on a jobs bill but have time to chase militia members conspiracy theories are several Democrats.

Namely, at this time, Representative John Barrow (D-GA) and Representative Jim Matheson (D- UT) (more to come). Blue dogs in red states.

There are a few things these gentlemen should know before voting tomorrow, like how this entire debacle was started by a real terrorist who has advocated armed insurrection against the US (typical company for a Republican, but rather shocking for a Democrat) – Mike Vanderboegh. Fortune’s must read six month investigation of the Fast and Furious ATF “scandal” reported on the stream of information which more deeply detailed Rachel Maddow’s assertions earlier, “After the item about Terry appeared, the bloggers funneled the allegations through a “desert telegraph” of sorts to Republican lawmakers, who began asking questions.”

“It would be one thing if Holder actually did something wrong. But he didn’t. And this is why I’m full of contempt for these back-stabbers tonight. No one wants to be in a club full of losers who stab their own people in the back based on nothing but the fringy rantings of an ex-militia member who threatened armed insurrection against this country.”

And this lunatic is the man who’s word they take in this travesty. An ex militia member who threatened his country. This is who Republicans hold in high regard.
And about those chicken shit, half assed Dems….cut them loose. They have no principles/morals to stand on.

Just in case people don’t read the whole article (you really should) but if you Tweet…let them know how you feel about backstabbing AG Holder for THEIR selfish reason of wanting to keep their seat, rather than to do the right thing!

t them know how you feel about their betrayal:

    Michael —

If we’re drastically outspent in this election, there’s a very good chance we will lose to Mitt Romney.

This is a distinct possibility. The financial landscape in this race has changed over the last few weeks.

What concerns me is the Obama supporters I’ve encountered who don’t understand that this is what we’re facing.

The fundraising deadline this week is a test: Are we going to allow the other side to dominate us, or are we going to prove that elections are decided by everyday Americans pitching in what they can?

Ready to fight? Please donate $9 or more today, ahead of the FEC deadline.

What’s at stake here goes beyond the progress we’ve made so far, or anything the President wants to do in a second term.

What’s at stake is the very idea that regular people should still be in control of elections in this country.

Barack Obama proved in 2008 that millions of people giving $10, $20, or $50 at a time are an undeniable force. Today, our campaign is bigger and faster. We’re opening more offices and recruiting more volunteers to knock on doors.

If we allow the spending disadvantage to get beyond a certain point, none of that will matter. Mitt Romney will win, and it will be because we couldn’t keep up.

We can’t let that happen. I’m proud of how we’re building this campaign, and I’m not about to let a handful of billionaires prove us wrong.

    Donate $9 or more today:

    Julianna Smoot
    Deputy Campaign Manager
    Obama for America

P.S. — Today, any donation you make here automatically enters you to join President Obama on the trail next week. We’re saving two seats on the campaign bus, right next to the President — one for you, one for your guest.

I would love to see the whole law upheld, as it is obvious the Robney Camp is lobbying the different News Organizatiobs.
Everyone of them have the same, Obama is doomed narrative, if the law is struck down.
They are gleefully reporting it, as if taking a swipe at the President and the ACA makes them Happy.
All the Reporters today are HACKS!

Senate and House negotiators have struck a deal to combine the transportation reauthorization, student loan bill and flood insurance legislation in a package expected to pass by the end of the week, according to congressional sources.

The package likely represents the last significant burst of legislating before the election, as lawmakers will become increasingly preoccupied by message votes and electioneering in the weeks ahead.

I see Chuck Todd is out early to promote some new polls which dispute NBC’s own battleground states poll results, happily chirping about “a tightening” of polls in Mi., N.H. and N.C. And Todd is offering opinions as if they were truth. Please tell me how Todd became this political guru and for what reason. Absolutely no background which would give him any credibility—–did not even stick around college to get his degree. And he’s an expert?

It is hilarious he is often introduced with three titles, Chief WH Correspondent for NBC News, Chief NBC Political Director, and host of The Daily Rundown. I cannot think of any other teevee personality who is introduced with three titles. He is really irritating.

    NH Obama tied
    MI Obama ahead by 4!

Tricky bastards, cherry picking their own poll to get headlines that Robney is closing in in the battleground States…

I want it recorded this morning that I deeply thank President Obama for pushing, fighting for and signing the health care law (ACA).

while many are focused on what SCOTUS’ ruling will mean for PBO, I hope we focus on what impact it will have on regular people like me who badly need health care.

the SCOTUS decision is not about PBO’s future, it is about the future of the uninsured, under-insured, people with pre-existing conditions, the elderly and so many other
