I’ve watched this video over and over again and I can’t help giggling and grinning like a darned fool. They are the CUTEST. The love, the connectedness, the passion, the humor, the fact that they both still vividly remember their first date after some 20 odd years. Oh to have a love like the Obamas. I loved how they fill in gaps in each other’s memories. My parents do that. When I was younger and asked them questions about how they met, my mom would forget something and my step-father would fill it in for her and she’d catch right back up just like Miche did. That was waaaaaay too beautiful for words, though. I can’t stop mooning over them.

“They’re our major investors,” a senior Romney advisor said, declining to speak openly because of the campaign’s desire for secrecy.

this is a business deal. These “investors” know that by pumping in obscene amounts of money into his campaign, if he wins and they succeed in buying the Presidency, these investors will get an equally obscene return on their original investment…in the way of subsidies, tax free status, off shoring, outsourcing, following cheap labor to maximize their profits, deregulation, so they don’t have to worry about any pesty rules, free access to dump toxic waste…in our air and water…the list is endless.

This is how they, and we, should present this to people. And if they win, the American people, lose…because regular folks just don’t have what it takes to give them what they want…money and power. That, and that alone, drives them.

  24. 71 desertflower
    June 24, 2012 at 3:52 pm

Ed Kilgore summed it all up nicely:

the big game associated with Republican tax plans is for GOP solons to keep a straight face while asserting they can have big cuts in upper-end income tax rates without exploding the deficit or shifting the tax burden sharply towards middle-income Americans. The magic asterisk in their plans that keeps the mask at least partially in place is the promise that they will eventually identify and eliminate “tax loopholes” that will offset the revenue losses and avoid a big windfall for the rich that will have to be made up by everyone else. It’s “magic” not only because it’s so unspecific (and thus politically painless) but because the really big “loopholes” like the mortgage interest deduction benefit the middle class—and particularly the upper-middle class—a great deal.

GOP REP. TOM DAVIS: if we were dog food, they would take us off the shelf.”

GOPer compares brand to bad dog food

        May 14, 2008

Rep. Tom Davis wrote a 20-page treatise (see earlier note) assessing the state of the Republican Party as we head into the summer and presented it to House GOP rank and file this morning. Davis, who is retiring, is rumored to be interested in finishing his term as the head of the GOP House campaign arm.

We are hearing a lot today from Republicans and their concern about their “brand,” and Davis takes it to another level in his memo; “a congressional GOP brand tied to George Bush is struggling”; “…deep seeded antipathy toward the president, the war, gas prices, the economy, foreclosures and, in some areas, the underlying cultural differences that continue to brand our party.”

And the kicker, “the Republican brand is in the trash can…if we were dog food, they would take us off the shelf.”

Republicans Go From Fast and Furious to Slow and Stupid

    By: Jason Easley

This is why Fast and Furious will never be a major scandal. Republicans can’t even agree among themselves on their talking points. It can be argued that the Republicans’ real problem started when someone let Rick Perry a.k.a. Sarah Palin South loose on national television. Much like his Alaskan soul mate Rick Perry doesn’t follow the news much, but he loves a good Obama conspiracy theory.

The debacle grows even more humorous when you realize that Perry was on Face The Nation as a Romney surrogate, but he seemed more interested in talking about anything other than Mitt Romney.

Fox News Sunday and Face The Nation were airing live at the same time while two Republicans on two different networks give two different talking points on whether or not there is a White House cover up.

The right wants the American people to believe that the Obama administration has done something heinous and horrible, but have no idea what exactly that was. As usual, the GOP’s blind hatred of Obama is causing them to make fools of themselves.

        BTW, Chips & everyone …

A segment of the video describes precisely the cultural, spiritual framework of President Obama’s youth and makes if very clear the deep strength of his ‘cool’ – very, very deep strength – something those urging him to ‘get mad’ or ‘get angry’ fail to see. I understand the considerable value of having an opponent perceive ‘weakness’ when what is actually happening is that they are being fed a lot of rope.

Thank you for posting Bobfr. I am definitely donating BEFORE july 11th. I want to see this film made. Great insight into our President. Hawaii is so unique, and unlike any other state. They’ve had near universal health care for 30 years? I would imagine hearing of the sacrafices, and the special circumstances made by military family from the kids themselves would stick with a person. This adds one more thing into the respect and sense of responsibility that our President feels as Commander and Chief.

Republicans think that what makes the United States exceptional is military superiority. For me, what makes this country exceptional is its diversity. I know the Republicans have a ton of money since they are supported by billionaires and millionaires, but I like the President’s chances because he has the support of Americans from all walks of life.

Hi Everyone, it’s only me. 😆

Well TODobots, I never dreamed of it happening, but I met Pres O last night, and of course I was speechless! I got a handshake, but not a hug, and my older brother took a picture.

Problem is, I was dressed in house clothes and my hair wasn’t combed!!! Other problem? I haven’t seen the brother who took the picture in years, or lived in the home/country in which PBO and I met in decades!

Am I ticked off to discover that handshake was a real dream? You bet, because though I was embarrassed at not being dressed to the nines I was thrilled to meet the president, and I don’t usually dream so vividly.

I am extra late to the village as it has taken me all day to recover from the shock and disappointment that the handshake and picture were only a dream, PLUS I was finishing up work that had to be done to be ready for tomorrow’s workday. 😉
Now I’m going to take a quick look at all I missed today.

The conflict over who will pay for President Obama’s visit to Durham, N.H. tomorrow, per the AP:

An anonymous donor has agreed to pay up to $20,000 to cover expenses the town incurs as a result of a visit by President Barack Obama, Town Council Chairman Jay Gooze said Sunday.

The town asked that local expenses for Monday’s Obama campaign stop be covered by the president’s re-election campaign. Durham officials had said that the visit is expected to cost the town an extra $20,000 to $30,000 in overtime payments. Obama is scheduled to speak Monday at Durham’s Oyster River High School.

The Obama campaign had responded to the request by saying that all decisions on security expenses “are exclusively within the control of the appropriate government officials” and that if there were further questions about allocation of the expenses they should be directed to the Secret Service.

On Sunday, Gooze said the town’s request was not motivated by partisan politics and most Durham voters are registered Democrats. Gooze also said the town did not wish to make a national statement about campaign reimbursements.

Why are Republucan Towns starting to charge the President, for visits? This happened in California, as well? Something new!

I am worried about the Catholic Bishops…
They are obviously attempting to gain back the members they lost to the Evangelical Church, in the past 20 years.
In so doing, they believe their old Members have gone to the far right in Abortion and Gat rights.
So, they are trying to appeal to their worse Angels, by going hard Right.
Sadly, they could learn a lot from the Nuns, the Sistahs, got it right.

    • 278 carolyn
      June 24, 2012 at 11:52 pm

I’m afraid the bishops are in for a shock. Two weeks ago, our pastor gave the statistics about people leaving organized religion…both Protestant and Catholic. The numbers are growing….sorry, but he didn’t give the source. I have also read this quite a bit. People have become disenchanted with religion because of the many scahdals…..think pedophile priests, heterosexual and homosexual affair having evangelists, fraud, and other reasons not so easily defined. It seems that today, once people leave a denomination or religious group, they don’t go back. Evangelicals are among those who are losing. The high point of the huge mega churches has passed. Think of the Crystal Cathedral and its money troubles. I just don’t think that Catholic bishops have any deep kind of control over people any more. I believe we are seeing the last ditch desperate attempts by the hierarchy to keep people doing as they are told.

So according to some poll 56% against the healthcare law, 44% supports. Here’s the crazy part, 56% against even though they like the provision in the bill. I bet you ten thousand dollars that alot of those 56% against it are Democrats who wanted single payer. Regardless what happen we have to march on.

“Regardless what happen we have to march on.”

I am with you 100%, anniebella. If the Supreme Court overturns the ACA, it won’t be the first time in history that the Supreme Court screwed up because of ideology. Past Supreme Courts, driven by ideology, gave us “Dred Scott” and “Plessy v. Ferguson.” Three members of the right wing Court that gave us “Bush v. Gore” are still on the bench. And the current Court itself gave us the abominable, “Citizens United,” which may well destroy our democracy as we know it. As people in the past fought hard to undo the damage caused by past Supreme Court decisions, we have no choice but to fight back if the ACA is nullified.

it occured to me that if the SCOTUS choose to release the healthcare (ACA) decision tommorrow, then it may happen that POTUS may end up respond to the outcome right there in MA.

What a way to underscore the hypocrisy of the fool who is trying to run away from romneycare!

Thanks Amk for sharing this graphic chart that tells us all we need to know about the “Myth of A Liberal Media.” What is really fascinating is the media’s justification for why they overwhelmingly favor Republicans on Sunday shows. During the Bush presidency they justified the imbalance in favor of Republicans by saying that Republicans were in power and therefore deserved more voice to present their policies. During the Obama presidency, the media did a complete turn. It started justifying the imbalance in favor of Republicans on the grounds that the opposition needed a voice to balance the power of the Democratic president. Clearly then, when it comes to MSM, it’s heads the Republicans win and tails the Democrats loose. Yet, the GOP still goes around loudly selling the “Myth of A Liberal Media.”

amk, I feel your pain. Unlike you I am single; still cooking is not my thing. I only do it because I have to to survive. The one thing I passionately hate the most about food preparation is washing dishes. That’s why I have a stack of disposable paper plates and cups. Unfortunately, I still have to wash pots and pans. By the way, are Indian pancakes as good as Naan bread? If they are, I am game.

My Gosh. That is a superbly impact-full ad, especially with the court’s decision ‘looming’.

It just shows you how much PBO has had to fight these past couple of years. You know even I sometimes forget how bad it was when he came in. With the economy in tartars, Al queda reeking havock in the middle east ( and every foreign policy expert cowering at real chance of terrorists getting their hands on a Pakistani nuke), GM dying, healthcare system destroying more lives than it saved e.t.c…

How he turned around all this while fending off the rabid right and idiotic professional left is beyond me. It truly take an extraordinary individual to make a good president.

I was excited at first, but then I realized that Murdoch’s thinking Romney has a case to make against President Obama. And why wouldn’t he think that when Murdoch’s got a whole network and machinery to spread whatever lies Romney chooses to tell? Murdoch should focus on his legal battles – he’s done enough damage.

Several high-ranking Syrian military figures have defected to Turkey, reports in Turkish media say.

A general, two colonels, two majors and about 30 other soldiers are said to have crossed into Hatay province on Sunday night.

They were part of a group of some 200 people who crossed the border overnight into Monday, Anatolia news agency says.

In April, I predicted that President Obama’s $52 million plan to increase the margin requirements and otherwise tighten the screws on oil speculators — who borrow huge sums to bet on the direction of oil without taking delivery — would cut oil prices by 10 percent. He’s beaten that prediction, and the lowered price of gasoline has added $78.4 billion to its consumers’ spending power.

In case you never heard about it, in April the Obama administration asked Congress to spend $52 million to regulate this speculation. According to the Washington Post, this included the following steps:

    • Increase by a factor of six Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) surveillance and enforcement staff “to better deter oil market manipulation,”

    • Boost 10-fold, to $10 million, the civil and criminal penalties against “firms that engage in market manipulation,”

    • Give the CFTC authority to increase the trader margins — the amount of their own capital that traders must set aside for each bet. The administration officials said such authority “could help limit disruptions in energy markets,” according to the Post.

How come the media did not tell us about these steps, the President took to lower prices of Oil? Never mind!

Jen Psaki lands big gig on Obama campaign
By GLENN THRUSH | 6/25/12 6:27 AM EDT
Jennifer Psaki — who came close to being the surprise pick to serve as Barack Obama’s White House press secretary last year — has been tapped as the Obama campaign’s top traveling communications adviser, according to several people close to the president.

Psaki is taking a leave of absence from her job as a senior vice-president at the Global Strategy Group’s DC office to return to the trail, four years after serving as one of the 2008 Obama campaign’s most effective press liaisons as popular with the media as Obama’s tight-knit inner circle.

Psaki’s stock has rocketed in Obamaland over the past few years. She rose from a mid-level campaign staffer — who literally lived out of a suitcase after jettisoning her apartment to travel with Obama — to a White House deputy communications director and the aide who finished a close second to Jay Carney in the internal vetting process to replace Robert Gibbs at the West Wing podium.

Psaki had always intended to serve the campaign in some capacity, according to a campaign official. Her title will be travelling press secretary.

Her new position reflects her greater stature — and her emergence as one of the campaign’s most effective surrogates on cable. Unlike 2008, when she had to report to Gibbs, Psaki will have primary responsibility for briefing traveling press, will serve as an on-air spokesperson, the campaign’s counterpart to Carney when Obama hits the road later this year, and will be part of the Chicago-based communications team.

Psaki, a graduate of William and Mary, worked on John Kerry’s presidential campaign, the re-election efforts of ex-Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack and Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin, served as Communications Director for Rep. Joseph Crowley (D- Queens) and worked for Rahm Emanuel at the Democratic as Midwest and Northeast Regional Press Secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
