Hey momma – I know you’re slammed. I sent you a new CHILL graphic yesterday to proof. I think I want to tweek it – but check your email when you get a chance. It was probably sometime after noon yesterday…
I missed ALL the Rise and Shine this morning….I woke up with a start! I’ll catch up to that….but this! THIS is fabulous!!!! Fierce determination….and we’re NOT going back 🙂 What a way to wake up
That “Stage” ad is EXTREMELY powerful….very, very good.Should be on TV all over the place…until Nov.
I was wondering if the number in the ad has been fact-checked? Did Mitt Romney really make 100 million dollars just off of closing this one company? If that’s true, it’s just sick!
Good Afternoon Chips and my TOD Family. DDD, you just lifted my heart up to another glorious level. This reminds me of how we got it and why we must continue to trust PBO.
Oh, DDD please stay with us here. You are so much a part of this wonderful and beautiful family. Your videos bring so much life into sooooooooo many of our spaces, and I do believe Chipsticks welcomes you . Come on into the family here. I miss your great inspirations and your brilliant comments during the conversations during 2008 over at OFA.
Thanks so much. I am crying because you have again reminded us visually how much we need to continue to move FORWARD with President Obama. Thanks for making a little fiesty senior cry today. It is a good cry, though. When my pain is mingled with my tears, tis so sweet to the soul.
I hope these ads with th real people harmed by mitt the entitled bullying liar and his fellow greedy thieves at bain keep running. in my state, I see a few here nd there and they make me want to see that Mr 1% Mitt is NEVER let anywhere near the Oval Office! I despise such vampire capitalists
Hi globalcitizenlinda, you are so right. Did you receive the survey sent out today by Messina from his office. Please read it and send it in. It is a great survey.HZ
Oh, snap!! UT!! You do not mess around. And both guys seem to be having fun! I wonder if they are bonding over the fact that they both have the same types of stick stuck up their asses?–made of white oak you, know. Only the best darling.— Two more stiff and wholly unlikeable toolbags I have never seen.
Lisa, DDD, desertflower, Linda, and UT, stop it. My side is hurting, my stomach is fighting with my small intestine, and colon is waiting to jump the heck out of all of them. But the laughter is helping me out greatly. ((((((((((( I love you all so much))))))))))). This place is beautiful. I hope POTUS’s Team is smiling as well.
Uncle McShame and Stiff Mitten deserve each other. Old farts that they are. I am still singing my song that I wrote in my survey to Messina. Sorry.
But we will move on and enjoy our day. We have work to do. I am on bed rest this weekend, if I want to pass my doctor’s orders for Tues., but I will. It is hard as heck, but there are people in more pain and struggle than the cup that I am bearing. I trust, and I have faith to do what is right for my space. Being here is a very beautiful part of my space. Thanks for the laughter, TOD Family.
Oh hecky derbingle. You just made me go into the pain pill box. I almost slapped my computer when I saw those two faces. Popped a pain pill instead. I was trying to hold off, but this was it. (((((Love you debringle))))))))))) You all are so beautiful and full of fun. HZ
Ha! UT! And may I say I was very amazed at how you brought the facts to that one guy a couple of days ago – you posted your tweets the other day. Very on the spot! I wish I was that good with bringing on the good argument!
Ha! looking for his tax returns – brilliant – that should be retweeted everywhere – constant drumbeat. there is definitely v damaging stuff in those returns. Let’s keep pushing.
Cha, I agree with you 100%! This ad will resonate because there are many people who have first hand experience with predatory capitalism. And now that the truth is out about Bain’s Romney being a “pioneer” in outsourcing (or is it off-shoring now) jobs, Romney can no longer pretend to be the champion of middle class and of creating good paying jobs in America. This ad should be run in all the fifty states and not just in the battleground states.
A powerful Ad. It’s powerful and will resonate because it tells the story of what has happened to America’s middle class. A story of the destruction of Main St. by Wall St., destruction of the middle class by the 1%.
Contrast this very powerful “stage” ad featuring a real-life ordinary citizen losing his livelihood as BainMitt makes off with $$millions, to the silly “Obamacare” ad featuring some “doctor” who’s probably getting shitloads of $$$ from insurance and pharmaceutical companies….
So How Do We Convince People To Believe The Truth Instead Of The Lie?
If we want to refute a specious claim, or even more importantly, convince “non-believers” that the Democratic or Progressive approach to governance is better for our society than the Republican or Conservative approach, and we want to avoid the deadly Backfire Effect, how do we do it?
Robert Todd Carroll, author of The Skeptic’s Dictionary gives us a starting point to formulating a solution by explaining several of the possible reasons this effect even occurs in the first place:
Another explanation involves communal reinforcement and the assumption that there is more information you don’t have that supports your belief. If one knows that there is a community of believers who share your beliefs and one believes that there is probably information [they] don’t have but which would outweigh the contrary information provided, rationalization becomes easier. It is possible that the rationalization process leads one to give more weight to reinforcement by the community of believers.
How much play one’s belief gets in the media, versus the play of contrary information may also contribute to the backfire effect. If messages supporting your belief are presented far more frequently in the media than messages contrary to your belief, or presented repeatedly by people you admire, the tendency might be to give those supportive messages even more weight than before.
BINGO!
This theory ties in perfectly with both George Lakoff’s and Jonathan Haidt’s teachings that one of the strongest pulls in fomenting political ideology is the sacredness of the group to which we belong.
Despite what you might have learned in Economics 101, people aren’t always selfish. In politics, they’re more often groupish. When people feel that a group they value — be it racial, religious, regional or ideological — is under attack, they rally to its defense, even at some cost to themselves. We evolved to be tribal, and politics is a competition among coalitions of tribes.
The key to understanding tribal behavior is not money, it’s sacredness. The great trick that humans developed at some point in the last few hundred thousand years is the ability to circle around a tree, rock, ancestor, flag, book or god, and then treat that thing as sacred. People who worship the same idol can trust one another, work as a team and prevail over less cohesive groups. So if you want to understand politics, and especially our divisive culture wars, you must follow the sacredness.
And this is why at The Winning Words Project we like to put an emphasis on framing Democratic and Progressive policies within a moral context. For instance, Republicans have long argued that what we earn is “ours” and the portion the government takes in taxes is being immorally used to support others who didn’t earn it (those others generally being people they see as not being part of their group). So when we at The Winning Words Project suggest calling what have historically been known as “Entitlement Programs” by the term “Earned Benefits Programs,” we attach the same moral net around those programs as conservatives do to taxes in general, by pointing out that Medicare and Social Security are monies withheld from our paychecks by the government, invested on our behalf, and returned to us during retirement as either income or healthcare coverage.
It is in this way that we can say, “Look, we agree with you at least to some extent. We, too, want to keep as much of what we earn for ourselves as possible. That’s why we advocate for not gutting the rate at which the government has to return our Earned Benefits! We all earn that money through our work and we want it back when it was promised to us. It’s immoral for the government to promise to return it to us at a certain rate and at a certain age, then reneg on the deal to pay off some other debt they ran up. We don’t like being cheated out of our income any more than you do!”
Of course we know that we aren’t likely to win over every Republican in this country, particularly because we recognize the reality of the Boomerang Effect. But there are plenty of people—especially those in the middle—who are able to be convinced … if we tell our story using the right moral frames.
Oh wow, thank you so much for posting this tweet with a link to our site! And thank you desertflower for linking to our “Boomerang Effect” post (though next time a snippet and let folks read the rest at our site, pretty please? :)) I’m so flattered and appreciative that y’all think our project is helpful and useful.
By the way, I need more help with it if anyone’s interested! Everything from interns to contributing writers are welcome!
Holy smokes that ad is powerful, its very sad. Can you imagine being asked to build a stage.. and then having a group of people stand on it to tell you you’re fired..?? Its horror enough to be fired without warning, or without reason- but the whole stage-building thing is pure cruelty.
Its an awful way to treat people. I’ve been ‘laid off’ on the spot w/o warning.. allowed to work the entire day as though nothing was happening.. and then poof at the end of the day told – adios. But to be put in the position of speculating- possibly something positive is going on by building a stage, is indeed a special form of torture.. I can see exactly how Natzis came to mind df.
yes df, money & power. That I believe, is exactly what winning the Presidency amounts to for Romney.. the ‘power of the job’. Lord help this country should he ever have that power.
desertflower, I am in absolute awe of your resourcefulness! This article is a must read for people who are being brainwashed by the likes of Glen Beck , Rush Limbaugh and Grover Norquist. I wish people would read the preamble of the U.S. Constitution. Contrary to the false claims by Ayn Rand Libertarians like Ron and Rand Paul, the Preamble of the U.S. Constitution is not about “I” the individual. It’s about “We the People of the United States.” And here are the things that “We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union” set out to do under the Constitution:
1. Establish justice
2. Insure domestic tranquility
3. Provide for the common defense
4. Promote the general welfare
5. Secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.
Clearly, the founders never envisioned a country based on greed and selfishness. Nor did they envision a country purely based on States rights. If they had, they would have said so in the preamble to the Constitution. Every time I hear or read libertarians claim that the Constitution enshrined unlimited individual freedom and selfishness, or unlimited states rights, I automatically know that people are simply regurgitating what they hear from Paul and others without having taken time to study the Constitution and the ideas of the founders. To repeat, the preamble of the Constitution, which clearly sets out the goals of the country being founded, does not emphasize “Individuals” or “each State.” Rather It states boldly: “WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES, IN ORDER TO FORM A MORE PERFECT UNION….” To this day, I still can’t figure out why “We the people” was replaced by “I the selfish individual.”
Kathleen Parker at WaPo wrote an Op-ed defending the Romney’s and that fancy horse for Ann’s therapy. She spits out the hollow GOP slogan “And why this war on success?”
– Gee Miss Parker, that’s what Union members keep asking. They had the good sense to join together to protect their rights, get a good pension and salary. Yet the GOP has spent decades and millions to make other Americans resent the success of union members. Yeah, there’s a war on success alright.
So while Mitt Romney was out there firing people, they were losing everything, jobs, homes, healthcare, Ann Romney is out there spending millions on horses. Now who is out of touch Mitt?
I am not aware of anyone from the campaign mentioning Ann and her dancing horses. Ms. Parker must feel it is her duty to monitor what comedians and teevee shows can report on Mr. and Mrs. Willard. Virtually all of her columns are highly irritating.
Where were the Op-ed from Ms. Parker when Limbaugh and all the other right wingers (including politicians ) have made hateful. and disrespectful comments about Michelle Obama. S far as I am concern I don’t give a freakin frat about Ann Romney or her dancing horses.
Ha.. when I was at the dentist this week they had Fox news on… and there was a pundit on there going on and on and on.. passionately about Ann Romney’s MS (he too apparently has MS) and defending her million dollar horse(s) as therapy for her MS and how sick, sick I tell you he was about folks denigrating her for her dancing horses.. blah blah blah,. And since I’ve heard absolutely nothing attacking Ann Romney for either having MS or for her dancing horses – all I could think about was that good ole nifty $77,000 tax write off that dancing horse for “therapy” got them.
As soon as everyone left the waiting room I changed the channel off of Fox. I am so grateful I don’t have cable tv 😉
Holy shit that is pretty scary, gobrooklyn. I’m not religious but if I was a Catholic- I think I’d be kinda freaked out by this. Just as a citizen it is very troubling that they would hire known liars to represent them in this way. wowzer.
The reason: Burke, a member of the conservative Opus Dei movement, is a former Time magazine correspondent. Pope John Paul II’s longtime spokesman, Joaquin Navarro-Valls, was also a member of Opus Dei.
Controversies about Opus Dei have centered on criticisms of its alleged secretiveness,[19] its recruiting methods, the alleged strict rules governing members, the practice by celibate members of mortification of the flesh,[20] its alleged elitism and misogyny, the alleged right-leaning politics of most of its members, and the alleged participation by some in authoritarian or extreme right-wing governments, especially the Francoist Government of Spain until 1978.[21] Within the Catholic Church, Opus Dei is also criticized for allegedly seeking independence and more influence.[22]
interesting info df, thank you. Obviously by choosing a spokesperson from FOX- a known lying machine to most of the world.. the Vatican is letting us know clearly which way they lean.. and which way they intend to head.
“One thing you DON’T EVER want to be is an animal in the care of the Romneys. Another thing you DON’T EVER want to be is a human under the rule of the Romneys.”
For the past two weeks there has been a new roof getting installed on my apt building. They knocked out my DTV – bastards! Got a tech coming out tomorrow to recalibrate it. It’s been sad not having Stephanie MIller on Current while I get ready for work in the mornings….. 😥
Maybe I need a 12-step for my TV addiction……
Good thing Game Of Thrones is over, otherwise I’d be wielding a flaming sword on some peeps. 😉
Romney’s Billionaire Backers Plan to Get Billions Back from Uncle Sam
By Jon Perr
————————————
“It is more blessed,” Jesus said, “to give than to receive.” That may be, but the billionaire backers of Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign and Super PAC plan to do both. As they gather this weekend for a three-day Romney conclave in Park City, Utah and a secret Koch brothers summit in San Diego, the deep-pocketed donors and bullish bundlers ultimately hope to shower $1 billion on the Republican nominee. If the captains of industry and finance succeed, they can expect a golden shower of their own in return. After all, Romney has not merely promised to roll back environmental regulations, open federal lands to energy exploration and undo the Dodd-Frank reforms of Wall Street. Just by eliminating the estate tax, President Romney would divert tens of billions of dollars currently destined for the United States Treasury into the bank accounts of the richest families in America.
Despite record high corporate profits, historically low effective upper income tax rates and a stock market which has risen by over half since January 2009, Barack Obama is not enjoying the usual fundraising advantage of incumbency. Nowhere is this more true than on Wall Street. As Politico documented:
So…… is Corey Booker still persona-non-grata around here? Because I’ve got to give props to both him and Christie for this…… (especially telling Mittens “I’m just not that in to you….” ) 😆 Apologies if this has been posted already a bazillion times.
goodmorning everyone
You got it missevie19. Ya beat me by a microsecond 🙂
Morning Donna, a microsecond defeat is still worth a prize 🙂
I just LOVE the expressions on their faces. It really epitomizes their public personae but also shows how deeply in love they are.
Ahhh thanks so much Chips. I’m in awe of the love that they show for each other.

WOW! That is a powerful ad!
Absolutely chilling!!!
Morning TOD.
Yes, the ad is awesome and sad. I could really emphasize with the man and I’m sure most others will, too.
New Photos of President Obama at work on the Global Stage. Thanks @petesouza for your dedication to the nation http://www.whitehouse.gov/photos-and-video/photogallery/g20-summit-los-cabos-mexico
Great photos aren’t they? I love Pete Souza! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for bringing these pictures to us. They’re great.
am i really first this is gonna be a great day
Missevie19, first is a great way to start the day! Well done! 🙂
Ad that gets to the point
I was wondering if the number in the ad has been fact-checked? Did Mitt Romney really make 100 million dollars just off of closing this one company? If that’s true, it’s just sick!
Bain made 100 million, but since Mitt was CEO…same difference.
I think Mitt would be better off running for President of China, I mean after all, that’s where he’s created the most jobs right?
THIS!!!
Daniel, your comment nails it!
I can’t believe this video is over 3 years old already! Enjoy – Barack Obama Virtues!
Oh DDD thank you for reminding me of this one. I have now saved it to my favorites. It’s PERFECT!!
Wow. C’est Magnifique! 3 years on and they’re both still so consistent in their beliefs, values, and virtues.

thanks miss chips
I guess we now know what’s happening this weekend in Utah at “Republican Palooza” 🙄
McCain…..still looking for love in all the wrong places…
What a sad little man.
Good one Linda.
Oh, snap!! UT!! You do not mess around. And both guys seem to be having fun! Only the best darling.— Two more stiff and wholly unlikeable toolbags I have never seen.
Oh my, white oak…I can’t stop laughing, although I would have thought knotty pine or a hard ash could have also been perfect for their ass!
😆 now that you’ve said it………. 🙂
White BIRCH…as in John Birch!!!
Both of those smiles are so fake. I’d bet money that Mitt was telling McCain to STFU about foreign donations from one of Mitt’s donors.
Lisa, DDD, desertflower, Linda, and UT, stop it. My side is hurting, my stomach is fighting with my small intestine, and colon is waiting to jump the heck out of all of them. Excellent Question, UT! That Q needs to be Twittered down the Lying Willards’ Feed.
An excellent AD…I don’t care what Clinton, Booker, and Rendell have to say about BAIN.
Cha, I agree with you 100%! This ad will resonate because there are many people who have first hand experience with predatory capitalism.
ANY QUESTIONS??????

me too desertflower
I think that’s subconsciously WHY it’s so powerful.
Build a stage so they can look down on you and tell you are fired. Who the fuck does that?!!
Mitt Romney, evidently
This ad is SO good, I think we somehow need to get in touch with them and let them know “more of this!”
Mitt Romney & pals do apparently. Its truly hard to fanthom a mind/heart that would do such things to other human beings.
Money and power, baby! Regular people just get in the way
yes df, money & power. That I believe, is exactly what winning the Presidency amounts to for Romney.. the ‘power of the job’. Lord help this country should he ever have that power.
Yup. They built their own gallows. So sickening.
yes gallows Tally, says it all.

I sent them and my agent a request to dump ALEC.
GM df.
🙂
OMG! I LOVE that!!!!! Looks like my Lucy (cat) She would actually do that, I think:)
How long did she last on TeaNN ? 6 months ?
Oh yeah, it was her and Spitzer. Completely forgot.
good come back on the Kathleen Parker nonsense:
http://www.alternet.org/newsandviews/article/990554/washington_post’s_kathleen_parker_defends_ann_romney’s_million-dollar_horse_habit,_calls_it_“therapy”/
So while Mitt Romney was out there firing people, they were losing everything, jobs, homes, healthcare, Ann Romney is out there spending millions on horses. Now who is out of touch Mitt?
gobrookln, If it was that BLACK First Lady in the White House doing the same thing I can only imagine what the Op-ed would be saying.
I forgot the o, it suppose to be so far as I am concern.
Ha.. when I was at the dentist this week they had Fox news on… and there was a pundit on there going on and on and on.. passionately about Ann Romney’s MS (he too apparently has MS) and defending her million dollar horse(s) as therapy for her MS and how sick, sick I tell you he was about folks denigrating her for her dancing horses.. blah blah blah,.
Watching Air Force One with Harrison Ford. I think this is the way our President would have reacted, if not better! 🙂
Chips..TOD got a special salute from The Politcal Carnival !! Nice.

Good day Chips & TODers!
Just so #BainMitt knows who will be on OUR “Stage” on 6 Nov 2012 ….
#PRESSON
Moreover ….
#PRESSON
That’s Mitt Romney job experience firing people, sending jobs overseas, closing down plants, while he and his buddies get richer.
A very good read.
We’re working on it!
Thanks amk! Thoroughly interesting article about my very old stomping grounds.
I went the wrong link first and saw this article link by Lakoff stating “Romney is out Framing Obama”! Yeah, how you like him now, Lakoff?

Holy shit that is pretty scary, gobrooklyn. I’m not religious but if I was a Catholic- I think I’d be kinda freaked out by this. Just as a citizen it is very troubling that they would hire known liars to represent them in this way. wowzer.
FOX are liars, so why are you afraid of your own? From the top (Rupert Murdoch) to the bottom.
I’m sorry anniebella I don’t understand your question to me.

BINGO!
Not surprising! This President was ready to make Caroline Kennedy the Vatican Ambassador, but the Vatican freaked out!
Great line from article re the animal abusing Romneys:
http://mittismean.org/2012/06/21/the-romneys-appalling-record-of-animal-abuse/
“One thing you DON’T EVER want to be is an animal in the care of the Romneys. Another thing you DON’T EVER want to be is a human under the rule of the Romneys.”
There is a documentary called “Barack Obama” on HBO for those interested. It is looking at the 2008 campaign.
Never mind Tally. When my cable goes down, it is like a part of me is missing.
But I am enjoying this look at the 2008 campaign.
Is it the one that Ed Norton did?
The same one.
Please, Please Read! http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/23/opinion/blow-bullies-on-the-bus.html?_r=1&ref=opinion
America needs to look itself square in the mirror.
Chips…if you could highlight this, I would be eternally grateful. Charles Blow nailed this!
Oh wow Desertflower, that’s such an incredibly powerful, brilliant article, just posted it – thank you so much:

You have to be a “severely” insensitive asshole to tell your employees to build a stage and then walk onto that stage and fire them.

New post everyone:

What a fantastic video! Love! It! Thanks for posting it — it really hits home!
Wouldn’t it be nice if these ads could end with Mitt saying ” I like to fire people”
TODers this is a must read and one that will express everything we feel about Sarah Palin! http://www.politicususa.com/foreign-sarah-palin-traitor.html
