Speaking of which…this just goes to how much PBO values education. We need to keep these kids that have been educated in US schools,HERE…for the benefit of America, that they are such an intricate and important part of. I love this forward thinking man so much.

So, I see that the talking heads are analyzing this announcement only from the perspective of a political ploy, rather than even bothering to discuss that it’s the right thing to do. Their cynicism is toxic. I’m very proud that the President is making this move.

of course thats how they’d see it.. they (pundits) never think about how these policies effect the lives involved.. its all a game to them., thankfully President Obama is thinking about the human beings involved.

sherijr, that is what I told Jonathan Alter when I email him. I told him that these cable tv pundits analysis speeches like it’s some football game. I told him that I listen to the President’s speech and I don’t need these two bit pundits to tell me what to think. What happen to the days when the media just reported the news.

They care NOTHING about substance. It’s all about soundbites, speculation, who’s up and who’s down, rumors, dissention and sensationlism. Toxic is the absolute correct adjective to describe them Theo.

PBO touched real lives today with this announcement. Something that is clearly lost on our so-called Liberal Media.

Even if it is a political ploy, what’s wrong with it ? Didn’t the thugs use the 100% economy destroying tactic from day one as their own political ploy ? Which is worse, the first or the second ?

      pundtwits can go fuck themselves.

        June 15, 2012 at 1:31 pm

True – but I think in this case, it’s a bit of both. The GOP never do anything just because it’s the right thing to do, and the media can never analyze an act just on its merits.

      • 28 japa21
        June 15, 2012 at 1:37 pm

PBO has always said good policy is good politics, but policy is the driver. For the media and the GOP, politics is the only thing that matters, whether or not a policy has merit is irrelevant.

I will ask about THIS as well! http://mittromney2012potus.blogspot.com/2012/03/news-buzzed-this-week-with-news-of-mitt.html

        Romney and his Chinese Investments
The news buzzed this week with reports of Mitt Romney having investments in Romney’s trust with Huawei, a Chinese company. The specific articles running were about Mitt making money off of Huawei. Huawei is involved in making spy cameras. Although some journalist are poo-dooing Romneyโ€™s investments, claiming Romney did not know what is in his blind trust; for some reason the New York Times and the Obama administration were able to learn. Romney has ownership in a company and profits Romney is making in helping China spy on dissidents in China, set off a bit of a buzz.

All Gov.( a website) reported, Romney is making money also spying on Americans. Bain purchased Uniview last year. โ€œUniview Technologies, a Chinese company owned by Bain, has provided surveillance cameras to the government for its Safe Cities program, which allows officials to monitor university campuses, hospitals, mosques and movie theaters.โ€

        However –

Romney’s connections to Huawei are not new. Republican Duncan Hunter, during the 2008 GOP run off for president, brings up Romney’s China connection! Hunter further states Romney’s China connection makes Romney unfit for office.

He has a kind and generous spirit about him. He governs in a way that is always cognizant of how his policies will affect the average person. I think this is where the fact that he is a minority has played an important role in how he governs. He has felt and experienced inequality in his own life. Something that the other 43 Presidents before him couldn’t bring to that office.

It just makes you love him all the more.

Humor break while we wait—–Chicago is dead serious about their hot dogs

    • June 15, 2012 at 1:49 pm

This is so true and many places will not give you ketchup, even if you ask for it. I’d rather have ketchup than mustard on my dog. In Chicago it’s a Vienna beef hotdog, tomato wedges, mustard, celery salt, and pickle relish on a soft Rosen bun (seeded optonal) with a dill pickle and greasy fries on the side. Period, end of story.

poppyseeds are NOT optional! Chopped onion, too. And a good yellow mustard.

I’m an elite just like PBO and I love sophisticated mustards of various kinds, but not on my Chicago hot dog. Has to be yellow mustard.

I like hot peppers on mine, but that is obviously optional.

Good afternoon! Just in from pulling a data shift, now off to do some gardening (allergies and all); I have someone giving me a hand with getting my place into shape. He’s done a good job thus far, so yesterday, I felt comfortable enough with him to give him a detailed list of yard chores to complete while I was at OFA. He completed the chores in record time and as he is not one to just sit around on the clock, he took it upon himself to “help me” out by pulling “weeds” — problem is HE PULLED MY WHOLE PERENNIAL GARDEN! The trash truck was crushing them as I drove up! Needless to say, I’ll now only have him working when I’m here. On the other hand, because of Barack Obama, my local nursery rang up a hell of a sale that they would not have otherwise made… “Life 101” lol ๐Ÿ™‚

I have had to scale back my gardening quite a bit in recent years. I have baskets and planters and I need to replant the herbs I bought at the farmer’s market yesterday. But damn, I’m outside for a few minutes and my allergies are TERRIBLE. I’ve always had bad allergies but this year is the worst and it’s only the middle of June.

that is heartbreaking about your perennial garden! It takes years to nurture that garden. I’m so sorry.

Since knee surgery I am only planting flowers, herbs etc in taller planters that I can overcrowd for beauty and tend easily. I bought a waist high cedar planter that is on legs to put on my back deck near my kitchen. It is around 4 ft x 2 ft. I put herbs in it and love it. Had to add a short trellis border on the railing side since the neighborhood cats found it and think it is a litterbox though.

Obama moves on immigration, fulfils a DREAM

    By Steve Benen

President Obama will announce today one of the biggest moves of his presidency on immigration policy, and in the process, will offer needed relief to hundreds of thousands of families.
How does this relate to Obama’s new move? The president, no longer willing to wait for a dysfunctional and far-right Congress, will effectively implement the DREAM Act’s goals on his own — which is arguably the boldest thing he’s done since the 2010 midterms.
Anti-immigrant Republicans will no doubt be apoplectic, but they live in a perpetual state of outrage anyway, and Obama wasn’t getting anywhere waiting for them to strike a broader compromise.

I think the Koch Bros and Karl Rove should spend millions making ads about deporting children who have no memory of living anywhere than the U.S. of A. The good kids, the hardworking kids, the kids who stand on the front lines in Afghanistan and Iraq and every place where the U.S. needs them as opposed to Mitt Romney’s sons who lounge in mansions living off their trust funds.

Who are the deserving Americans? Who are the ones who respect citizenship and only ask to use their minds and heart and civic pride to do well in this country.

Go ahead. Spend millions. Please run those ads in NV, NM, AZ, TX, CO. Please.

On the Fox News channel, Megyn Kelly angrily said “The president is SUPPOSED to be out, discussing his . We DON’T KNOW why he’s late. But does he even have THE RIGHT to do this? After his SPEECH, we will have a FAIR and BALANCED DEBATE about it”. Yeah, right – of course you will!

In more plain language, spoken by regular folks, Steve Benen is talking about ” Romney’s Top 20 biggest” LIES “of the week.” I still don’t understand why journalists are afraid of using the word lie or calling people who lie, liars. For example: Romney saying that President Obama has signed “Zero” trade agreements with foreign countries is a blatant lie. I suppose Benen might have not wanted to use the word lie if it turned out Romney really didn’t know that President Obama has signed trade agreements and was simply repeating a talking point fed to him by his staff which is either unethical or incompetent.

    O/T. A week end laugh.

    New Mexico Chili Cookoff

If you can read this whole story without laughing, then there’s no hope for you. I was crying by the end. This is an actual account as relayed to paramedics at a chili cook-off in New Mexico .

Note: Please take time to read this slowly.

If you pay attention to the first two judges,

the reaction of the third judge is even better.

For those of you who have lived in New Mexico , you know how true this is. They actually have a Chili Cook-off about the time Halloween comes around. It takes up a major portion of a parking lot at the Santa Fe Plaza . Judge #3 was an inexperienced Chile taster named Frank, who was visiting from Springfield , IL .

Frank: Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a chili cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge’s table, asking for directions to the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was assured by the other two judges (Native New Mexicans) that the chili wouldn’t be all that spicy; and, besides, they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted and became Judge #3.

Here are the scorecard notes from the event:

Judge # 1 — A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing kick.

Judge # 2 — Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.

Judge # 3 (Frank) — Holy crap, what the hell is this stuff? You could remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put the flames out. I hope that’s the worst one. These New Mexicans are crazy.

Judge # 1 — Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalapeno tang.

Judge # 2 — Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken seriously.

Judge # 3 — Keep this out of the reach of children. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted to give me theHeimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more beer when they saw the look on my face.

Judge # 1 — Excellent firehouse chili. Great kick.

Judge # 2 — A bit salty, good use of peppers.

Judge # 3 — Call the EPA. I’ve located a uranium spill. My nose feels like I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now. Get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back, now my backbone is in the front part of my chest. I’m getting sh*t-faced from all of the beer.

Judge # 1 — Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing.

Judge # 2 — Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or other mild foods, not much of a chili.

Judge # 3 — I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable to taste it. Is it possible to burn out taste buds? Sally, the beer maid, was standing behind me with fresh refills. This 300 lb. Woman is starting to look HOT … Just like this nuclear waste I’m eating! Is chili an aphrodisiac?

Judge # 1 — Meaty, strong chili. Jalapeno peppers freshly ground, adding considerable kick. Very impressive.

Judge # 2 — Chili using shredded beef, could use more tomato. Must admit the jalapeno peppers make a strong statement.

Judge # 3 — My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted, and four people behind me needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that her chili had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue from bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from the pitcher. I wonder if I’m burning my lips off.. It really ticks me off that the other judges asked me to stop screaming. Screw them.

Judge # 1 — Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of spices and peppers.

Judge # 2 — The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, garlic. Superb.

Judge # 3 — My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous, sulfuric flames. I crapped on myself when I farted, and I’m worried it will eat through the chair. No one seems inclined to stand behind me except that Sally. Can’t feel my lips anymore. I need to wipe my butt with a snow cone.

Judge # 1 — A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned peppers.

Judge # 2 — Ho hum, tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can of chili peppers at the last moment. **I should take note that I am worried about Judge #3. He appears to be in a bit of distress as he is cursing uncontrollably.

Judge # 3 — You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I wouldn’t feel a thing. I’ve lost sight in one eye, and the world sounds like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili, which slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava to match my shirt. At least during the autopsy, they’ll know what killed me. I’ve decided to stop breathing. It’s too painful. Screw it; I’m not getting any oxygen anyway. If I need air, I’ll just suck it in through the 4-inch hole in my stomach.

Judge # 1 — The perfect ending, this is a nice blend chili. Not too bold but spicy enough to declare its existence.

Judge # 2 — This final entry is a good, balanced chili. Neither mild nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge #3 farted, passed out, fell over and pulled the chili pot down on top of himself. Not sure if he’s going to make it. Poor fella, wonder how he’d have reacted to really hot chili?

    Judge # 3 — No report.

So, they dogged Bill Clinton with White Water and Vince Foster, stole the election from Al Gore, swift -boated John Kerry and now you come to Barack Obama. He has no skeletons in his closet ( no bad real estate deals- the Rezko furor did not take), not cheating on his wife ( planting an intern would not work) has no criminal relatives ( his aunt came here on her own and is not leaning on the WH for support), so what can they use?
Lets see, Barack Obama is smart, savvy, erudite, handsome, has a model family and most importantly, his character is above reproach. The only weapon that COULD work is to de-legitimize him by blocking all his policy initiatives, forcing him to plead for passage and for confirmations of his appointees. Also continue to use the media to embarass the president on every occasion. The ONLY thing they have not done yet is to call him the N word in public.
