So, Pamela, are we two missing the action? 😉

Can’t seem to catch up with you these days – mostly because I’m constantly running behind with little time to catch up. How are you doing really?

          June 12, 2012 at 9:37 pm

Thanks for asking, VC, actually doing pretty well, but not much has changed, as far as work. Things are going slowly toward improvement with the lady, but some days are just hard. I don’t do much except work, read TOD, and try to keep up with my daily chores, and of course following Denea right now. But, I am so blessed to have work I love, and have aptitude for, I really cannot find anything to complain about! Well, except the Republican Party…… But, spreading the word for Obama~Biden, so many Democrats here, lots of bumper stickers and yard signs… S’all good!

I like the ‘slowly toward improvement’ part as that’s the best direction. You know, old gurl, your idea of not doing much makes me shudder. 😉 When I say I’m not doing much you better believe I don’t have a list of four or so things I AM doing. Nevertheless remember to take a real breather every once in a while.

Hee! When you put it that way! I’m so glad I didn’t elaborate on the list, but I so appreciate your kindness. I do feel I am taking it easy when I do that ‘short list’ and keep on top of it! But breathing is the easy part, and don’t forget I have kitty to make sure I sit down every morning with a pot of tea, and every evening with the iPad, so she can sit on my lap, feet up, and a purring cashmere Puddy Tat to remind me to stop! Then again, I’m only 61…..

Chips! Mind your tongue! (reprimanding tone) Did your grandma not tell you the tale of the piglet who asked his mother why her mouth was so long and was told, ‘Ah my child, you’re growing. You’ll soon know the answer.” Anyway, if you get to be as beautiful a ‘slow coach’ as the one featured here when you age (can’t remember if you admitted to 16, or ??? recently), I’m sure you’ll be happy. 😉 😉

Do you mean as in CHEESY PUFFS? Cause I’ll have you know, Ms. Chips, ever since that brouhaha over amk trying to nick off with your damn cheesy puffs, I had to go and buy some (lower fat of course) and it is all your fault they taste so good! Especially with wasabi flavored nori from Trader Joe’s …. So who can eat healthier than that? I ask you…

            • 34 vcprezofan2
              June 12, 2012 at 9:35 pm

Wasabi? Nori? What’s this now? What’s wrong with eating the old fashioned stuff that I recognize? Isn’t stevia enough variety for you?

              • 35 Pamela
                June 12, 2012 at 9:41 pm

Stevia, ah stevia! But heck, I found this wasabi coated nori, in these little packets, at Trader Joe’s, and I only give fair warning, if you try them you will be lost forever… Just please don’t try them with lower fat cheesy puffs, or you will never speak to me again, and rightly so. Oh. My. Goodness. Mmmm,Mmmmm,Mmmmmm.

But what ARE they? I have never heard of either before. Also I don’t believe we have Trader Joe here, although ironically enough I picked up a bag of Trader Joe’s peanuts for the first time this past Saturday in a Wal-mart store. I went looking for grass seeds on sale and the bag jumped out at me as I passed by. 😉

I am sorry you probably do not have Trader Joe’s there yet… They are still growing in the US. But if you would like to have Chips put us in touch off the blog, I would LOVE to make up a box of goodies for you, and even send some 2012 gear I think you would like as well! Just be warned, I might not be doing you any favors if you really really like what I send, but then can’t buy it for yourself! 🙂

Chipsticks, I actually heard that Karl Rove’s favorite Martine was Vodka with a lemon twist and three olives. Not very creative on that front. After he has had a few of those, and a juicy angus steak, baked potato with everything, he gathers with his fellow propagandists, the mainstream media, to plot how they can blame everything his boss did on President Obama.

It’s true that George W. Bush served two terms. But anything negative that happened during his 8 year presidency is either blamed on Bill Clinton ( 9/11) or on President Obama (the recession, the financial collapse, TARP, the unpaid for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the deficits, the unpaid for part D medicare prescription drugs, Guantanamo, etc., etc.) I still can’t figure out exactly what George W. Bush and the Republican Congress positively accomplished in W’s eight years.

“Start telling deep truths out loud all day every day: Democracy is about citizens caring about each other. The Public is necessary for The Private. Pensions are delayed earnings for work already done; eliminating them is theft. Unions protect workers from corporate exploitation — low salaries, no job security, managerial threats, and inhumane working conditions. Public schools are essential to opportunity, and not just financially: they provide the opportunity to make the most of students’ skills and interests. They are also essential to democracy, since democracy requires an educated citizenry at large, as well as trained professionals in every community. Without education of the public, there can be no freedom.”

From the great George Layoff. DWS , hire this guy.

Yup – I stopped listening to Thom Hartmann shortly after the health care debate, because he was so bitter about the lack of a public option and it was anti-Obama almost all the time. I’m glad to hear that he’s come around to looking at the alternative, and putting his fantasies to the side for the election year.

        • 82 nathkatun7
          June 13, 2012 at 12:11 am

I used to listen to Thom Hartman (“the super intelligent liberal guy”) on the radio and he consistently bashed President Obama. in 2009 and 2010. I stopped listening to his radio program as I did to all the purity progressives. So I don’t know what he’s been up to the past two years. But AMK is absolutely right: Hartmann was one of the PL pundits who constantly bashed President Obama for not being as progressive as FDR and Thomas Jefferson. The same was true of Bill Press whose idol was LBJ. Cenk Uygur and Arianna Huffington are, of course, worse than Hartmann. But then again, we know that they were both right wing Republicans before they became the icons of the holier than thou progressives.

In any case, since I know a bit about the dark side of the Icons of of Hartmann and his fellow purity progressives, I stopped listening to his radio show. If he is now supporting the President, I welcome him back. On the other hand, “a super intelligent liberal guy” who is so in love with Thomas Jefferson that he ignores Jefferson’s slave holding record and Jefferson;s pseudo scientific racism, which is still at the heart of modern racism, does not impress me very much. Please don’t give the excuse about what historians call “the climate of the times.” Many slave holders, in Virginia and Maryland, who were transformed by the enlightenment, took seriously Thomas Jefferson’s words in the Declaration of Independence –“we hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal”–and freed their slaves. But not Thomas Jefferson, who upon his death his hundreds of slaves were auctioned off to pay his debts. Thom Hartmann may well be ” a super intelligent liberal guy” but from my vantage point he puts on blinders when it comes to critically examining his heroes in history – and in particular Thomas Jefferson.

But the best Indian food I tasted was in London. I am sure it’s even better in India. Nothing wakes up your taste buds as Indian curries, both vegetarian and meat dishes. And I just love Nan(I don’t think I spelled that right) bread. My dream is to visit India one of these days.

LOL, Nath. Close. You missed one more ‘a’ in that. It’s a north indian bread (typically from Punjab). For the variety of cuisine, nothing beats India. Every state has its special cuisine with a different taste, flavor and preparation. And my state (Tamilnadu) is the tops in that. We have the sweetest of sweets to spiciest of spicy. If you come to India, it will be my pleasure to treat you and your family. 🙂

Good evening TOD fam. Just taking a minute to say high; busy working for the Pres; sort of working my regular job; and doing “Life 101.” For the next week and a half, my calendar is full from sun up until 0’dark thirty…

BIG NEWS: On Saturday, TOD’r “sjterrid” and a contingent from NJ will be canvassing out of my PA Obama 2012 office! Looking forward to meeting a fellow TOD’r!

Last, but not least, I’d like to share a note that one of our phone bankers wrote on a call sheet. A weekend phone banker made contact with a 73 yr old, female, Republican from s/w PA; she supports President Obama and agreed to volunteer. The phone banker annotated “doesn’t drive at night so she can’t do phones, but would be interested in helping, doing whatever she can during daytime hours. She was worried we would not want her because she is a Republican. I assured her we were happy to have her & let her know we have republicans, Independents, Libertarians and Democrats alike supporting President Obama. I gave her the FO’s # and told her the FO would call to schedule a 1:1.”

If anyone questions why we call non-Democrats, tell them about this 73 yr old, female, Republican from s/w PA.

You guys have a Blessed and Obama evening!

True story. Had a mango and pineapple fruit salad the other day. My arugula was on the same plate and accidentally mixed together with the fruit salad. Pretty good.

I was looking at the earlier posts and loved the one of the students at the science school. (it show a side view of PBO with the main focus on the graduating students) What struck me about it was the total mix of students. I remember not so long ago a picture like that would have been mostly asian and caucasion male students. This picture had them with a nice mix of females of all persuasions as well as young men of color.

Remember the uproar over the science loving Barbie doll? Or how young men of color in inner city schools didn’t get good science classes…or scores?

The point being ‘the times they are achanging’. No I am not advocating for or have any desire to see LESS young white or asian men. I’m just happy to see MORE females (of all stripes) and men of color in the mix. Hopefully we’ll soon see more handicapped men and women in the mix the next time around. Together they will build a more just and welcoming world.

This is what Robme wants to do away with defunding public schools and firing teachers? What a cynic!

OK, it just may be me, and I’ve been wanting to say something for quite some time now, but how long has it been that PBO’s been doing that bite the bottom lip thing he does. I don’t recall it being one of his looks. Then bam….when he’s outside on the tarmac, or in a rope line, or especially when he’s running or trotting, there’s the bottom lip tuck move. Don’t get me wrong, I love the look, I just can’t see how I let it get by me.

This may well be the flip side of Obama Derangement Syndrome. We notice what shirt he’s wearing and what he was doing the last time he wore it; what book he’s reading; what babies he’s snuggling up to; his favorite shades; what his ‘don’t mess with me’ look signifies…etc, so it’s time to examine his bottom lip tuck move. LMAO

What a waste of what could have been a really formidable movement.

Occupation Over; Calm Returns to D.C. Parks

McPherson Square, Freedom Plaza clear of protesters

After months of messy crowds, tent cities and confrontations with police calm has returned to two parks in downtown Washington.

Occupy DC and its supporters filled McPherson Square off K Street in downtown Washington demanding economic justice for the now-famous 99 percent. The demonstrators frequently took to city streets in the middle of afternoon rush hours to make their points, but now quiet has returned. The demonstrators gone.

You’ll see Pinal County only had 2 precincts to count, Santa Cruz county had only 5 precincts, Cochise had 64 precincts to count, but Pima had the largest by FAR — 281 precincts. So far, counting is complete for 233 of 281 precincts.

How do we fight this rampant lying?

    From Steve Benen:

“Postscript: In the Politico piece linked above, Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.) was quoted saying, “There is plenty of room for solutions in the private market, and a primary objection to the ACA remains the heavy-handed, bureaucratic approach, which necessarily compels millions of
employers and beneficiaries to leave private insurance in favor of a public option.”

Emerson was in Congress for the entire debate over health care, she was a member of one of the principal committees that wrote the House bill, and she still hasn’t bothered to learn what the reform law says or does. There is, for the record, no public option, though I wish there were.”

    • June 13, 2012 at 7:19 am

Moreover, that lie is part of their Game. Purposely, It distorts the whole law, that combined with Obama is robbing Medicare 500 billion bucks, to cover Da Blacks. It’s why it polls horribly!
      It’s true…

      • 344 57andfemale
        June 13, 2012 at 8:59 am

I can’t begin to tell you how the ‘robbing Medicare of 500B” has resonated with otherwise sensible seniors. It’s terrifying.

I need to find the Philly speech. I heard here that PBO was selling ACA but I want to either read it or hear it myself. Because he has been mentioning it as an accomplishment but hasn’t been ‘selling’ it, IMO.

Reading the George Lakoff article yesterday, he makes a point about reclaiming words that the Repubs have coopted, like ‘freedom’. There has been no selling of what’s coming in 2014: the ‘freedom’ to be an entrepreneur by eliminating the ‘burden’ of crushing health care costs or staying at a dead end job to keep health care. The ‘job creators’ in the health care industry, once the product of health is affordable to everyone. The ‘freedom’ to keep your home if your child has a preexisting condition. That everyone coming into the system ‘frees’ society from the crushing burden of uncared for illnesses. A healthy society is a productive society.

When this President decides to sell something, it sells despite the evil MSM and the lies.
