Hi everyone, we might end up throwing punches at each other over this, but please read BWD’s post.
Some of you might not like it, but think about what it’s saying: this President has achieved extraordinary things, in the face of vicious, relentless opposition – but is his campaign, so far, really doing him and those achievements justice?
Michael Tomasky: ….. the campaign isn’t telling a story. And there is a story to tell, even about the private sector. It’s a slightly more complicated story than the one Mitt Romney is telling, and more complicated means harder, but it doesn’t mean impossible. The story, in a nutshell, is this: we inherited a total disaster, things are getting better, and Romney will bring us back to disaster. The last part is the most important: putting the emphasis back on the challenger.
I’m not sure, to be honest, if Tomasky or BWD acknowledge enough just how hard it is for the campaign to set the narrative or tell that story when the MSM is in the bag for Romney, Politico in particular – which seems to have the most amazing influence on the rest of the media when it comes to creating a narrative – has been utterly poisonous of late, the dishonesty of its ‘reporting’ simply breathtaking. (I could give a few examples from yesterday, but I’ll spare you).
Also, ‘progressive’ media frauds like Cenk Uygur and that Greenwald piece of shit, from his balcony in Rio (part-funded by Koch/CATO), have upped their anti-PBO venom to vitriolic, hysterical levels of late, in their attempts to persuade their brain-dead cheerleaders to work towards his defeat.
But, despite all that, the campaign can, surely, still do a whole lot better – specifically by making more use of its single greatest weapon: President Barack Obama. As BWD said, “when the President goes all in – like he did with marriage equality – he always wins”.
So why not forget about daft ideas like Friday’s press conference, when whatever PBO said was always going to be twisted by the media f**kwits, the same people who spent most of the week chuckling about blowjobs.
Why not bypass these fools and have, for example, PBO address the nation directly from the Oval office, and call out the opposition for what it is: economy-sabotaging traitors.
And why, as BWD said, has his stump speech hardly changed over the last few months? He’s busy running the country, what are his speech writers doing?? To me, he seems bored and uninspired delivering that speech, it’s largely, inexplicably, defensive, when it should be singing from the rooftops about his spectacular achievements. And why aren’t the endless, wonderful benefits of the Affordable Health Care for America Act being promoted in those speeches? They’re hardly mentioned. This is insane.
I know, I know, who the f**k is anyone to question the campaign’s strategy? Well, I am someone who believes PBO to be the greatest and most inspirational world leader of my lifetime, and I’m utterly petrified that he will be beaten in November by execrable right-wing forces, and their allies on the fake ‘progressive’ left, that will reverse every single one of his achievements. And I just believe that his people aren’t doing enough, so far, to positively and aggressively promote those achievements.
I don’t, for a single minute, underestimate how hard it is to get that message out, and I have endless respect for Axelrod and Plouffe, master strategists responsible for an astounding campaign last time. I’ll trust – pray – that they’ll get it right this time too. But don’t they need to get their act together, very soon?
1st
Nice work, don!
Congrats on first. Thanks for your opinion BWD….I am still fired up! We had the Press on our side for most of the primary in 2008 now we have to fight them too. I am up for the challenge.
Congratulations Don on #1! 🙂
If the President loses this election is will be because of the pervasive racism that permeates this country. Unfortunately there is not much that can be done to combat irrational hatred.
I don’t deny that there are racists, but Obama won by a sizable margin in ’08. It’s basically the same population. I think greed and desire for power share the bigger load of the driving force behind his opposition—–many big money forces are aligned against him. They want free rein, unencumbered by regulations, and the uber-wealthy corporate media is assisting their efforts.
And I agree there needs to be an aggressive, simple, clear message so that the American people know what is at stake.
Simply ….

Hi TOD Family. I need help, please. I set up a grassroots fundraiser page(my first) and I am not computer up on the game so to speak, so will someone who has done this before please tell me how to get people to my link to donate.
I am so excited about this and it has been one of my dearest dreams for this cycle: do a grassroots fundraiser page, be first on TOD, and received a great photo from Chips for being first. Just a few.
Can Donna, Chips, meta, Bobfr, please show me the way. Thanks so much TOD family.HZ
Great, HZ! Can you bring us the URL for your fundraising page? Just go there and copy the URL and paste it here so we can share it with others. Hope this helps.
Thanks so much, meta and cookmon. I am going to try it now. I hope I get it right. HZ
when you are on your fundraising page
-put your cursor on the address bar (url)
-right click to highlight the address bar and display drop down menu
-on drop down menu, click on copy
-in the comment section of this blog (or any other you may want to share), right click and get a drop down menu
-click on paste
-voila! the link to your fundraising page has been copied and pasted
hope this helps
HZ, just saw your comment. Were you able to succeed with the guidance from meta and cookemom? Hope so.
BTW, I have total confidence that President Obama and his team know what they are doing. That said, Chips and BWD are two exceptional supporters and it’s good for the President and campaign to read reflections from those who not only care but deliver in so many ways. Thus, the tweet requesting at least one of them read it.
It’s fine with members of a family or community to disagree with one or another member’s perception as long as the spirit is growth and strengthening of bonds. Would hope that that is the outcome of Chips and BWD sharing their concerns with all of us. Perhaps some might want to reflect a moment on their comments in that spirit.
Moreover, by now, the scale of the threat to the Republic should be obvious. As I and others have noted, today, America faces a threat at least as dangerous to the Republic as the outbreak of Civil War in 1861.
The threat is the coordinated assault on every right, social compact and and uniquely American promise.
With the Supreme Court’s abdication to secretive, ultra-wealthy individuals a vast financial resource now is poised to buy both politicians and elections.
With willful and persistent support of various State Governor’s the core principal of democracy – each citizen’s right to vote – is being destroyed.
With near unanimous participation of Republicans in the Senate and House, a singular objective, was plotted on 20 Jan 2009 and has been on full display ever since – destroy the Presidency of Barack Obama as to obliterate any chance of his re-election irrespective of the cost, even if means hurtling the Nation into a global great depression.
With almost all broadcast and print media doing 24/7 attacks on him and providing unrestrained support of a person who is recognized, world-wide, as a pathological liar motivated by a lust for power characteristic of the world’s most deplorable dictators, the ‘4th Estate’ is corrupt. It is owned by and in service of a small number of plutocrats.
In the face of their assault, he has achieved a record of spectacular successes.
We must be the ‘4th Estate’ – relentlessly, through every form of media we can access and by being in contact with as many citizens, personally, between now and close of polls on 6 Nov 2012, ensuring victory.
We need every American to face the reality of how grievous a threat to the Republic the Koch, Romney plutocrats are. They have avowed to dismantle every aspect of the American dream. Their actions are totally consistent with their vow. We have never faced a more dangerous or persistent enemy (they’ve been at this since the day Nixon was inaugurated in 1969).
We don’t get a second chance to win this defining battle. We either do it on 6 Nov 2012 or America may exist in name but not in the spirit of the just, empathetic and equitable society you, FDR, Lincoln, the Founders and countless millions have envisioned and dedicated their lives to achieving.

Thanks, Bobfr. Meta and Cookemon helped me to get it over here. Wonderful. This one is new to me, but meta and others stated that it is working. I just want to have a success. This is a Big achievment for me in this journey. I like to test my faith and step outside of the box.
Thanks for all that you do, Bobfr. I love your brilliant mind on twitter. Keep PRESSING ON. Thanks.HZ
BOB You’re a GD Genius. I know it’s too late but I’m going to comment anyway
Come on Man!
Okay, I’m back. 😆
I read the first paragraph of this entry and wonder if I should continue. Deep breath! …Wading in…. no, …not yet. I’m going to go check my ‘mail’ @ WordPress first.
BWD, I have been a fan of yours for the longest, I first came across your work at DK and have been a follower ever since. Axelrod and Plouffe know all too well how to run a campaign, I’m not about to start second guessing them now, not after beating Clinton and McCain and all the money that they both threw against Barack. I’m not worried about all the money that will be thrown against him this time, yes it will be considerable, but if money was all it took to defeat Barack he would have been defeated a long time ago. Quite frankly I’m a bit shocked by your alarmist attitude; Barack has shown time and time again how to deal with adversity, and his enemies.
I trust my President and his Team – PERIOD.
I refuse to be a back-seat whining driver, but I will be an upfront positive volunteer in getting his messages out.
My Sentiments Exactly.
Thank you!
I’m with you GGail 100% 🙂 Let’s press on and not let the media get to us.
100% concur. I can’t believe we’re rehashing this BS like whining that occurred a while back.
GGaail, I have to agree with you, because there isn’t a dam thing I know about running a campaign.
I am with you all on this. The re-election team is certainly not above making mistakes or even have areas where a tweak or two might be needed from time to time before this election is over, but I believe these people with their brilliant minds know what they are during. I have complete trust and faith in them. President Obama will be our 45th president!!
I am really sticking my neck out here. Maybe because of the last few days. I am not at all worried about the campaign at the top. I am very worried with our local OFA paid staff. They just can’t think. They are good with worrying over their metrics, but not with reality. I have been working with OFA since the first campaign began and I have loved it. We have accomplished so much together. NOw, not so much. These new kids seem like it is “just a job.” I miss the passion. I have to say we got one that seemed to get it and right away they promoted him into the city. I pray every night that Jim Messina will send us better staff. I am having nightmares. Sorry, I had to vent.

I’ve come out of blog hibernation to remind everyone to volunteer, phonebank, donate and use the majority of your energies in this regard. It’s the best way to overcome fear and MSM punditry right now. Also remember that the President is not an amateur and Ali is his idol. He’s a 4th quarter player. He prefers for folks to think that he is on the ropes and is the underdog. There will be daily nonsense particularly over the summer to try to get you to drive up their ratings. As I said before, volunteer and organize—-FORWARD!
I am thinking the same as your state here
I tend to lurk, but I stand with Pres Obama, Janelle, you said it succinctly, He is playing bid wisk, and he has a straight face with a full house. We all feel somethings could be handled differently, but I am back-seat driving. I will continue to donate, blog, share and phonebank till election time. The daily nonsense reminds me of dogs being thrown a bone, and the whole pack follows the leader trying to get to the bone first. The politicos are pumping ratings by sensationalizing what tisbit they feel will ignite the flame. Let’s not fall into the trap, by doin excactly that, …” float like a butterfly, sting like a bee!”
Daily Caution/Reminder:
• Primary Goal:
Promote and Defend PBO and his policies BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY
• Central Question for all PBO-supporters:
How is what I am doing and saying today helping PBO to get re-elected with a supporting congress and senate?
• Stay on message put out in focus for today/week by Team Obama;
• Please do everything you can to amplify today’s message from Team Obama to any outlet (MSM, Blogs, Social Network, Friends and Relatives) you can;
• Look for POSITIVE stories, videos and other material that supports today’s Team Obama message and share it with as many contacts as you can
• Respond to ALL lying reports about President Obama and his team with links to specific facts demonstrating WHY the report in question is a total lie;
• See you at President Obama’s Second Inauguration (January 2013);
I like everything you wrote, we should all stay focused.
Thank you globalcitizenlinda. There are many who should print out what you’ve written and post it on their bathroom mirror – to read daily.
THIS!!! THIS!!! THIS!!! Otherwise we’re just spinning our wheels!

Liberals want Obama to be a king, not a president
New York (CNN) — Can liberals ever be happy? I keep asking myself this question as I hear an increasing number complaining about President Obama.
There seems to be a Greek chorus of liberal whining: “I’m disappointed by him.” “I expected more.” “I thought he would be different.”
snip/
What’s clear is that the liberals speaking out don’t want a president, they want a king. Albeit a liberal king — but still a king, who would be unrestrained by Congress as well as the checks and balances enshrined in our Constitution.
These disenchanted liberals apparently wanted Obama — upon taking office — to have instantly transformed every campaign promise into law by the simple wave of a pen. Or maybe they would have preferred Obama to have walked out onto a White House balcony where, in a scene reminiscent of the musical “Evita,” he would be greeted by adoring throngs waiting below, and on the spot, declare that all his ideas were now the law of the land.
But here’s the problem. Barack Obama is not a king, he’s the president of the United States. For those who may have forgotten the “Schoolhouse Rock” cartoon of “How a bill becomes a law,” Congress needs to first pass the bill before it has any chance of becoming a law.
Heh.. color me NOT Bored by this campaign on any level. I’m so dang Firedup and busy touting this President, this administration’s accomplishments that I cannot wait to vote. I’ve heard POTUS time after time after time speak on his accomplishments these 3 years.. I don’t think we can have both awesome speech giving week in and week out AND continuous touting of accomplishments.
Don’t worry he’ll be giving massive rallies.. townhalls & debates quite soon.. things will ramp up big time. In the meantime,. we, WE had better be speaking out loud & proud on his accomplishments to our neighbors, to our friends, to our enemies, to the guy on the corner and the stranger on the phone.. and registering voters.. and fighting those who are trying to take away our fellow citizens right to vote.
ohhh and to the media: If our friends in the media want the country to know of POTUS’ accomplishments.. then please feel free Media to ACTUALLY REPORT on those accomplishments over and over and over again.
And this needed to be carried over here:)
http://afpak.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2012/06/08/a_unifying_force_lost
The June 5, 2012 drone strike that killed Abu Yahya al-Libi is a major milestone in America’s long-term effort to break the back of al-Qaida’s general command. With Abu Yahya al-Libi’s death, al-Qaida has lost its last great unifier, a man who possessed the rare talents and credentials to keep an inherently unwieldy global movement on track and in line. Without their ideological enforcer standing guard, the various al-Qaida affiliates and militants will invariably begin to wander off al-Qaida’s sanctioned path.
A revolutionary to his core, the bureaucratic success of the al-Qaida organization was never Abu Yahya’s end goal. Al-Qaida was a matter of convenience, a ready-made architecture that he almost begrudgingly joined after escaping from an American military prison in July 2005. As the last group standing, al-Qaida would be Abu Yahya’s best chance for advancing his agenda, one that far exceeded the goals of even al-Qaida’s top brass. Abu Yahya not only wanted to get the Americans out and tear Arab regimes down, he wanted to remake Islam from the inside. Abu Yahya was an intellectual insurgent of Machiavellian proportions.
His death was a BFD!!
Let us listen to POB. He is leading. He is focused. He is working hard to get the message to the American people. He is working for all of us. He is not about to give in, give up, or give down. Believe in his vision, believe in his work, believe in him. Stand with him. Pour over things that will take us to a level to help him win to finish what he started.
Stay focused, stay loving, stay respectful, and stay trusting in the Change He Believes In. He is worth the journey. Be not discourage in well doing.
So we’ve already forgotten the push for the AJA last fall? How many times has President Obama given precisely the type of speech that BWD references, both in primetime and on the road. I’ve seen BWD herself numerous time go into raves after these speeches. And, she’s generally right back in the dumps the next week because yet again, real life did not prove to be like an extended episode of The West Wing, and one speech did not lead to ULTIMATE VICTORY!!!!!! for Democrats. It’s this vein of magical thinking that IMO puts her now in the class of the other counter-productive emoprogs. And I say this as someone who gladly followed her from the GOS after how awfully she was treated there. I will be forever grateful for her helping to start the exodus from the big name blogs to smaller places such as her site and this one.
But that doesn’t mean that I don’t think she’s just flat out wrong and unhelpful at this point, and I have no problem saying it. I’m sorry, I don’t care anymore that it hurts your feelings when mean things are said in the media. If you can’t take the advice many here and stop following the pundit bullshit, then you deserve your misery and are welcome to wallow in it. I don’t have time for it. And I can tell you straight up, if we lose in November I won’t have time for it then, either, because my focus will switch to 2014 and making sure that there are more dems added that can derail a potential Romney presidency. And if we do win, same thing, load up Congress in 2014, get a dem elected in 2016, because it’s never going to end, and I understand and accept it, and can go on with a smile on my face despite it. I have too many family and friends who were devastated by various policies of the Bush administration, both economically and via his stupid wars. As someone said in the last thread, if you don’t want this type of feedback then go cower on you COMMENT-FREE blog and you won’t have to deal with it.
CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!
I love ya BWD but enough is enough! You’re like a freaking Yo-Yo. You’re up, you’re down, you’re up you’re down. Enough is enough. You need to read this post by Rinaex and read it very well line by line. You’re fast becoming like the emoprogs you despise who chased you away from Dkos.
A lot of us are out there busting our asses off. Volunteering, educating people about Pres. Obama’s accomplishments through calls, emails, FB, twitter, face to face contact, registering people to vote, donating; while leading very busy lives and what are you doing? Whining and screaming oh woe is me! Have you ever run a campaign? Have you ever run a Presidential campaign? Have you ever run any campaign local, statewide or at the federal level? If no, then please pipe down.
It’s 2012 and as the saying goes; shit or get off the pot. Enough with the chicken littling, handwringing, hair on fire memes. It’s almost election time. It’s down to the wire and if you can’t play a proactive part then you have disappointed not only yourself but a lot of us who thought you were made of stronger stuff. You always rave about PBO’s speeches and now they’re boring and humdrum? You think this campaign sucks? Well bully for you. Enough is enough. He’s a human being and he will not bow and scrape to you for some patronizing pat on the head.
I’m tired of this BS handwringing. Buck up. Get a core of steel for crying out loud!
Absolutely spot on UT…
And rinaex, thanks especially for the last sentence…
‘…As someone said in the last thread, if you don’t want this type of feedback then go cower on you COMMENT-FREE blog and you won’t have to deal with it…’
When supposed grassroots warriors give into and get sucked in by the psychological warfare we all anticipated and should have been prepared for and guarded against…
When handwringing and fear-based arguments based on the bogus assertions of a hostile multi-faceted opposition and a very complicit corporate media take over…
Then the potential for demoralizing and paralyzing other grassroots supporters by extension, becomes the real threat to our already difficult battle ahead…
We, the base of this magnificent and once in a generation President, at the risk of being accused of being Polly Annas, must continue to focus, unflinchingly uplift and positively support not just the President, his family and administration, but the easily swayed and the political neophytes amongst us…
That is what I see as my primary charge in this campaign…
To push hard the positives and stem the flow of anything remotely negative…even if it comes from the probably well-intentioned musings of easily shaken or disaffected supporters…
The constant questioning, the armchair quarterbacking, the attacks, the sabotage…I’ll leave to those invested in defeating the United States by working against the President destined to make it great again…
I LOVE this comment rinaex because it reminds us that no matter how much we love and admire President Obama, this is not just about him. Its about the long haul of change that started decades before his election and will require stamina even after his 2nd term is done.
When PBO ran in his 1st election, I had a friend that went into one of these panics on a hourly basis and I had to talk her down each time. I told her I wouldn’t do it this time. She now goes to her local campaign office skipping the news, phone banks and talks to real people, real voters and comes back so UP you wouldn’t believe it. When she listens to the news and starts feeling down, off she goes again to the campaign office where things are positive and she does positive things and makes positive statements.
I supported BWD at the Orange place and then again when she came here. Then she deserted me and when she came back, turned off the comments and now makes discouraging words. My advice to BWD, just like to my friend…I ain’t playing this time, so go do some real life voter turnout work for a change. Blogging isn’t it. Phone banking. Doorbell ringing. Try it. It is good for the psyche.
I like what you said overseasgranny. Thank you!
Word to THAT!
I am a Team Coordinator for OFA! I call People every night.
Everybody we call is in, everybody!!!
Sing it loud, Jovie.
Great, Jovie. Thanks for your commitment. HZ
Dear Chips and BWD,
I spent last campaign listening to the emprogs set their hair on fire every time either Hillary or McCain seemed to be gaining an advantage. Don’t you guys remember how often we heard that refrain of “If Obama doesn’t do _____ right now, its all lost!”
As I remember it, WE were the ones fighting back against that kind hysteria last time. I’m still ready to do it again.
I love you both but can’t go here with you – not for one minute.
And as for Tomasky…here’s what I have to say about his latest sh*t.
Exactly!
I feel like I am the one on the other side now! Lol!
As usual, I agree with Smartypants, but it’s not just that the Obama campaign is in a better position to win the election. It is that I have enough confidence in the campaign to feel sure that they do have a strategy, and they do have a story. And it seems to be pretty carefully planned so far. Part of that strategy requires attacking Romney’s record, and part of it involves defending the president’s economic record. And so what if the president used a not quite perfect word at his press conference yesterday. That will pass. But I’m sure the campaign will roll out the president’s own story of his accomplishments soon enough. Keep the faith.
Thank you SmartyPants. Thanks! I’ll take pragmatism and optimism any day over BWD’s handwringing arrant nonsense.
BWD, stop listening to Pundits who don’t know their faces from their asses. Have they ever run a presidential campaign? NO. So stop taking your cues from them. They’re worthless self serving hacks.
Loved your latest unloading! I can’t tell you how much I adore your blog:) Seriously makes my heart happy. Thank you so much for all you do.
And I want take this opportunity to say a huge public THANK YOU to you for all your support!!!!!!!
I remember that like it was yesterday. NOT going back.
Well, when PBO launched his campaign in Ohio what did some here focus on >>>> “EMPTY SEATS” <<<<< I will say that it breaks my heart to read this & wonder why we have to put the focus on PBO's Speech writers, Axerold & Ploufe when Romney & the Media are getting away with lies day in & out. I read BWD's TL 2 weeks & she wanted PBO to fly to Wisconsin & bail them out, then she changed her mind after that. I am sick & tired of the demands we put MY President when "polls" don't fit our narrative, unemployment goes up….. CHILL THE F**K OUT HE'S GOT THIS 🙂 😦
Tell BWD to take break from Twitter!
Enough of this BWD drama, I will not armchair quarterback the campaign.
Get back to the real message today: How Mittens lost the firefighter, police, and teacher vote in 30 second or less!
…now please excuse me while I visit my Fox-watching uncle and grandfather who believe Reagan was a Greek God to see my visiting brother who like’s Romney’s hair and his distain for dogs….
I’m ready for the fight, are you?
oh my drdaddy.. I feel for you bigtime on the Reagan as “Greek God” lol and on how nifty is “Romney’s hair”. thanks for that laugh 😉
OK you win the ‘gosh I sure wouldn’t want to have to face that on a great day like today’ award.
This is what hanging out on Twitter does to People! It changes your opinion of the President!
PBO has repeatedly told us that this is not going to be easy and that we have to fight every way we know how (but not with each other I hope).
Politics is a journey and with challenges along the way.
some days, PBO will is attacked and we want to break our screens or touch through them and hurt somebody.
some days are really good and we seem to be sailing along fine.
My one reminder is the old one : “Keep Your Eyes on the Prize”
My single focus at this time is to help re-elect PBO and give him a co-orporative congress and senate.
thats all folks
She has good points. What I find distressing is not how Obama is performing himself, he is the Michael Jordan of the team, but the rest of the team. I always thought they were banking on just him carrying the game. My biggest irritant is not the media, it’s the so-called surrogates. It seems an infrustrature of solid “we got your back” dems in congress or out is not there for this president. I remember Clinton and his foaming-at-the-mouth defenders in the 90’s. I can’t say PBO escapes blame for not actively building that himself as he is the leader of the party. As for baised media types like Polico, why don’t Obama campaign or surrogates call that out directly. Rethugs have been working the ref for years, why’re we not looking them dead in the eye and saying “you’re not worth reading, you’re a Romney rag.”
Well, when the whole fucking media parses your words, it should be noted!
Not buying it, Chips, either from you or from bwd.
Yup, Got up from sleep just to post this. (Yeah, my sixth sense and all that crap.)
And this will be my last post on this CL shit.
Gunnite.
gunnite amk and thanks for being a voice of reasoning…
And I have been screamed at for a lot less; than this Letter of Doom! Lol! Lmao!
LOL, jovie. You always crack me up with your inappropriate wit. 🙂
I feel ya.
I love ya Jovie.
I trust my President and his Team as well. No doubts.
That said, BWD’s comments about Uygur, Politico and the MSM in general are pretty spot on.
Of course, we have the Rev. Al, Rachel, Ed, Lawrence and some others in the media, in the President’s corner for the most part.
We’ve just got to keep the faith and do everything we can, collectively and individually, to see that President Obama is re-elected!
That’s where my focus and energy is directed.
I trust POTUS, VPOTUS, FLOTUS SLOTUS AND THEIR TEAM TOTALLY!!! End of message.
… not quite end of message…. I also trust that we OBOTS will continue to fight to get PBO’s messages and accomplishments out there to the populace. Meg Whitman’s loss here in California showed me that money can buy a lot of things, but it cannot totally erase truth and loyalty.
I don’t have time for this hand wringing and second guessing today or ever! I just don’t have the energy for it. How many times are we going to keep second guessing the president and his team? Enough Already! Spreading this type of anxiety to President Obama’s supporters does not help his campaign.
One example is Boehner and Cantor begging the President to negotiate on student loan. They go up in July Republicans get the blame. PBO knows this and if they want him at the table then he’s going to take them to the rack. Like always.
PBO is a basketball guy and 4th quarter is the money quarter. He’s pacing himself before taking control and closing it out.
I wonder if we are in a waiting period regarding ACA. Treading water, a bit.
Isn’t it possible that when the SC announces their decision, especially if it is positive, then that will be the big roll-out of what a giant successful term PBO has given us? And how bright the future is?
God, I forgot about ACA. If SCOTUS affirms it, expect the polls to change overnight, to be even more in favor of PBO.
Vicki–I have believed for some time that the relative silence on ACA is because of the SCOTUS decision. If I were the president, I would wait and then, go full bore on health care. If it’s a go, he’s got a great message. If not, he’s got another great message.
PBO wins either way on the decision. Teabaggers are only pretending that they don’t have children under 26, or kids with pre-existing conditions, or health costs through the roof. They’d like to think that all this stuff is bad for the economy, until it’s their chicken getting choked. I ain’t buying it. If SCOTUS comes back with a no, they will be after their congress critters to replace it with the same thing, just call it something else. Something like ACA or Tea-care
LOL @ TEa-care 🙂
the administration didn’t sell it before the 2010 elections, after the 2010 elections and there was a little bit of sell after the oral arguments.
You simply don’t wait this long to make ACA a priority. it’s not just the media’s fault — Republicans have defined this law from the beginning and there simply has not been adequate explanation of it.
Do you ever hear ACA mentioned in the many jobs speeches? ACA is a JOB CREATOR — the product is the consistent health of Americans.
ACA is a job creator in that it frees entrepreneurs to leave their dead end jobs that they can’t leave because of health care, and go out and make their dreams come true and employ others.
ACA is a JOB CREATOR because people can treat their illnesses, and/or remain healthy enough to be productive in society.
You never hear it. Yes, you hear about kids on policies until 26, no pre-existing conditions, etc. And surprise — the aspects of the law that have been sold by the administration are the ones that are popular.
So the message CAN get through.
I’m not buying that it’s just the evil media (which is evil). I’m not buying that there’s some magic time a few months before the most important election of our lifetime to sell the singular issue that the President put his political capital on the line for. I’m not buying that a few months before the election can undo the Republican frame that has been virtually unchallenged for over two years.
I also believe that this SC full of political hacks would think twice about striking down a law if it had immense public support. You think they’re going to strike down Medicare or Social Security (even though that would be a Republican dream come true?)
It’s my only disappointment with this President. And it IS okay to be unhappy. He’s not perfect. He’s no more always perfect than he is always evil, in deranged Republican minds.
I am NOT bored by this campaign. I am NOT demoralized. I am NOT discouraged, depressed, deflated or any of these self-defeating emotions. That’s how the media WANTS us to feel, and we shouldn’t allow a corrupt media system to manipulate us in this way.
I am FIRED UP!
I can’t wait for the DNC convention in September!
I am ENTHUSIASTIC as EVER!
I am READY.
Michael Tomasky has no skin in this game. If Romney wins, he will do fine – or even better than he’s doing now. Why should an ordinary citizen like me look to Tomasky who has never ran a campaign, let alone a successful presidential campaign, for how I should feel about David Axelrod, David Plouffe and Barack Obama’s handling of their campaign?
Yup yup!
Excellent comment hopefruit2.. exactly how I feel, thank you.
Bingo. This is how the propaganda works.
That’s how the media WANTS us to feel, and we shouldn’t allow a corrupt media system to manipulate us in this way.
HELL YEAH!!!!
Absolutely spot on…
If you allow anxiety and fear to dictate your life you will be in constant flux. This morning’s Rise and Shine was so positive with all the push back and facts, and then suddenly out of nowhere, here we go again.
Let’s face it, why should the team play all their cards all at once? There has to be a climax and a peak, so maybe a way to look at this is that it’s all part of the process. And yes, get out and do something constructive and stop indulging in the corrupt media and the pundits every thought and deed.
And, mantra globalcitizenlinda’s daily offering!
Good point! I agree. Some People let Twitter get them down and dictate their mood.
Certainly, if I get called for letting the MSM do that to me, I can see that in other People.

Chorus…?
You know we have the “Naughty Mats” which come in useful every now and then?
well, today I suggest that we also get the “Chill it Mats” which should have to be used for people to take a moment to calm down, gather their thoughts and if necessary go for a walk and rejuvinate. I can well imagine a “Chill It Mat” with the words on my PBO screen saver: Please Calm Down, I have Got This.
Precisely!
Good idea, global.
I like that one, jackiegrumbacher. I have out my “Favorite Organic Tea Mug” which is full. Next will be some smooth “Kind of Blue” by the Man, Miles Davis. Classic. Let us relax and chill because we have a beautiful task of helping the most positive, brilliant, compassionate, loving POTUS in our lifetime.
Think on these things:
He has our best interest.
He loves us.
He is Brilliant!
He works hard for All of Us. He is a great Commander-In-Chief who cares about our military.
He has some of the smartest, most gifted, and dedicated people working around him.
He has talented, hard working, totally committed workers in the Chicago daily working for All of us.
He has a Great First Lady by his side.
He has a wonderful VP at his side.
And He makes us light up with that million dollar Smile!
What a Man, What a President!HZ
Most of us, if not all of us who comment here know exactly the intent of the media – whether it be Cenk on Current or Melissa Harris Perry on MSNBC. The media is owned by a very few corporations. It is my belief, in order to have your face in front of the camera, you must sell a little part of your soul. Yes, even Rev Al – there are subjects that he can’t touch. And most of us know at least some of the subjects that never get addressed.
About the racist: I think many white folks who voted for McCain and Palin didn’t dream that PBO could win. Some of those are racist – not all – but some. Those that are racist went batshitcrazy when he won. These people will never be won over. Forget them. President Obama’s message doesn’t mean anything to them. He can never do anything right to please them.
For everyone else: Think SOCIAL MEDIA. How important is social media? Think Egypt – THE OBAMA DIARY – Twitter and other sane blogs. We will get the message out via social media. Think BOOTS ON THE GROUND and PHONE BANKING – The campaign of 2008.
My god, it’s JUNE. The President has been from one end of the country to the other. He has been fundraising and doing a damn good job. Many people still haven’t started paying attention, yet.
I’m not very much into polls, but I bet the Obama campaign has a gazillion internal polls. They know what is resonating with the people and what is not. I have complete faith in President Obama. He’s not sitting on his hands letting Axe or Plouffee or anyone else do whatever they want without his input. That’s not how he rolls.
Remember the picture of President Obama with the words photo shopped – “CHILL THE FUCK OUT. I GOT THIS”.
I keep saying that we have to override the media by WE THE PEOPLE becoming the media. it is not good enough to get on here daily and keep repeating…oh the media this,oh the media that! Goodness me, we already know how corrupt they are so,let’s go people,FORWARD!
Btw- this is a support group- if you want to tweet David Axelrod you displeasure, go ahead.
Still don’t know the purpose of writing a letter to the Obama diary?
BWD wrote the letter to Axelrod & Plouffe/Obama and tweeted them not the Obama diary. Chips decided to post the letter here, and add some of her own thoughts on it. 🙂
I’m not going to bash BWD. This is how SHE feels. It is not my place to tell her how to feel, or what to think. The RW does that on a minute by minute basis for their sheeple. That is not who we are. I understand her fears, and concerns. Part of the angst comes from knowing that there is no room for mistakes, no missteps. This time, this election, is bigger than the last one. Hands down, it’s a BFD.
Part of the continuing angst, has got to come from the fact that Romney hasn’t had to answer for ANY of the bs he spouts. Ever. PBO’s words and actions are put under a microscope every single minute of every single day..24/7/365….while the “other guy” skates on his words, Every. Single. Time. But this will change, and when it does, when he can’t hide anymore, and has to try and back the bs with non existent facts…he will implode..When the white hot glare of the circus and media is on him constantly, he will make mistakes. They always do, because his heart (?) is in the wrong place, he is running for all the wrong reasons, and this will come through…we see this already with his statements about police, FF, teachers.People are beginning to see how often he lies…hell, even Republicans don’t like this guy! It’s just “his turn”…hardly a ringing endorsement.
BWD, wanted Romney to be the one to run against PBO. That time has come, and now we all will do our part. She wants the campaign to know she knows what a BFD this is….and stress to them how desperately important this is, to not just our country, but the entire world. Make no mistake…THE ENTIRE WORLD.
I trust PBO and the campaign gurus that have mastered this science….I’ll be there, doing whatever I can, as we all will. But I understand BWD’s angst and fears, and I won’t bash her. In this time, for this fight, we hold each other up, and push each other forward across the finish line, knowing that the fight will be harder, but the victory sweeter. And when the entire world breathes a sign of relief, we can hold on to each other and know that we made that happen, when the odds and money seemed stacked against this good man, we did it. I want to feel that feeling, and so does BWD. This is the vision that PBO talks about…..this guiding principle. I am my brother’s keeper, my sister’s keeper. So, I post this video again. Chin up, BWD.
Well stated. We all have our approaches and opinions. I’m still trusting the POTUS/VPOTUS team and us OBOTS. 🙂
Thank you for your great post desertflower, I agree completely. I will NOT bash BWD, not after all she has done to promote PBO, and her very obvious devotion to him. Everyone has the right to their own opinions. Just happy to be here with all of you like-minded, good people, in this great place Ms Chips has created for us all.
i’m of two minds. i completely trust the president and his team to run the country, and i completely trust him and his campaign team to run the re-election. they are not only smarter than i am, they are pros at this, and i know pbo would not have them doing if they weren’t the best.
but i also notice that i could give pbo’s speech myself, from memory. my husband and i watch his speeches anyway, because we love to see him in action. but the fact is, there’s usually very little new and interesting in the actual speeches–to us.
so here’s what i think: repeating the message gives it a chance to soak in with folks who only hear it once or twice, and it makes a consistent message across the country, with resonance for everyone. also, it’s early in the campaign, and the public is historically fickle about choices they make at this point. so right now, they are laying the groundwork, pounding some pithy slogans in our minds, that can be built on in the coming months.
so even though us political junkies would enjoy some more pop, that’s not the right course of action right now. how do we know? just watch pbo. he’s the leader–the best leader we could ever hope for. smartest guy in the room. i trust him.
susanne, you make a very good point. The reason we know PBO’s speeches by heart is that we are PBO “followers” and junkies and keep up with every speech, every statement, every rally. That is not true of the average voter – particularly those who work daily, go to school AND work or are just simply too busy with life.
Therefore, speeches that we might find “boring” because we’ve seen it and heard it all is just from our vantage point. We MUST keep this in mind – that many people still aren’t really focused on the elections but will become engaged closer to the time. Meanwhile, the President has an excellent ground game going, and I believe that the campaign is deliberately keeping some of their most important campaign “stuff” hidden because they don’t want Willard copying it, or the MSM demagoguing or distorting his ideas, plans and strategies. They are indeed saving the best for last.
It’s not enough for Pres Obama to do speeches. If this economy isn’t fixed, then he can kiss a second term goodbye. Those are cold hard facts. Imho, House and Senate democrats are worth a shit. They only stand beside the president when he signs historic legislation if only for the photo op. How many do you see on the msm shouting from the rooftop about PBO’s accomplishments in such a few short years? Not many. Just because news shows air on NBC doesn’t mean they are liberal programming. They’re not. MSNBC hired the former Republican Chairman for crying out loud! Joe Scarborough swears by Politico pundits to give unbiased reporting, they don’t. And I surely wouldn’t give you two cents for the former Pennsylvania governor, Ed Rendell. I remember PBO saying once that Fox News wasn’t a news network but an opinion program. Then why in the hell does he grant interviews? Why do democrats go on to be beaten by Bill O’Reilly? They rudely cut their mics, and then edit for final airing. It’s ludicrous!
I’ve gotten so fed up with all the bullshit hitting the airwaves that I stopped watching and decided to focus my attention on Twitter and Facebook to get my message out. Twitter is the fastest way to see that facts go viral. There’s no better master at it than Bobfr, imo. It’s really to bad we’re only allowed 140 characters because so much more needs to be put out there. People need a helping hand to get over their ability to stick their fingers in their ears and go, “la,la,la,la,la.” Some choose to remain ignorant. I live in NV and the networks are being bombarded with Karl Rove’s Crossroads ads. They’re blatant LIES so who’s going to set them straight? The LV Review Journal is filled with RW propaganda bullshit. Even the supposed “liberal” The Sun (LVRJ insert) is filled with idiot comments from RW idiots.
I’m getting pretty fed up with all of it. If people choose to remain complacent or ignorant to what’s happening in this country, then bend over and kiss your ass goodbye. Under a Romney presidency you won’t have shit.
Sorry, had to rant.
Unfortunately, it took 16 years to get out of last depression, may take that long!
Cuz there is a problem with consistency and coordination of message with Dems. And PBO doesn’t have scary VP like Cheney who can whip the critters in line. Remember Cheney’s middle of the night visits to the republican caucus. We could use one like him just for the damn Dems.
Respectfully disagree. We do NOT need or want a “democratic” version of Bush and Cheney. We are doing just fine with our current team. You do not know half the story about what Cheney might have done to “whip the critters in line;” what felonies and unethical/immoral behaviors he may have committed to get his way.
First off, I am not going to be throwing any unches here. If I am going to punch anybody, it will be someone on the other side.
Secondly, I understand both BWD’s and Chips’ concern. However, I do not share it. But I am not going to get into any name calling or anything else.
I will, however, tell the reasons I do not share their concern, or at least the concern at the level they feel it. That last phrase is because if any of us don’t feel some concern, we aren’t taking this whole thing seriously enough.
Now, my reasons for not being too concerned at this point:
1. It is still very early. Most real people, the ones who will decide this election, don’t really start taking notice until after the conventions.
2. Despite the collussion between Romney, big money and the media, there has been barely a nudge in poll numbers, and in some cases, the numbers in some swing states have moved in PBO’s favor.
3. The swing state numbers are extremely good for PBO right now and have not shown any signs of wavering.
4. Romney is coming across as a real jerk.
5. The media, at least some of it, is finally starting to fact check Romney’s lies and challenge his campaign.
6. Believe it or not, a big reason I feel fairly confident is that just about anybody who is somebody in the Republican Party have clearly stated they do not want to be part of the ticket as VP.
7. So far, the PBO campaign has barely registerd. They have run some ads and he has done some campaign stops, but he really isn’t in campaign mode yet.
8. Romney is maybe the worst campaigner ever in the history of the US. Even when he has an opportunity to hit PBO hard, like Friday (yes out of context and incorrect, but still given a target to shoot at) he screws it up.
9. We were accustomed to seeing PBO campaign a lot more in 2008, but that was because of the primaries and then the general, and remember, for period of time in September 2008, McCain had the lead in the polls.
10. And finally, I see a more concerted push at all the down ticket races than in 2008 and there will be a push-pull symbiotic relationship which, IMHO, will result in a significant victory for PBO.
Is there reason to have some concerns? Of course there is. But I don’t agree with BWD or Chips about the level of cncern we need to have.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
EXACTLY THIS!!!!!
“Let’s stay together, good or BAD, happy or SAD!”
-Al Green-
Very very cogent and salient points, Japa.
I agree with all of that. Romney has been running negative ads non-stop here in Florida for a few months, with only a few from the Obama campaign countering it. If there was ever a time he should have a commanding lead here its now, but he doesn’t. I expect things to tighten up and swing back and forth (it IS Florida, after all), but to me the data is not pointing to disaster for President Obama, during the apathetic silly season at that.
And yes, we can’t ignore the fact that Romney is hilariously terrible at this.
And you’d think someone who’s been running for office since 1994 would have learned how to be, you know, a candidate. Ok, now I have TWO ideas for TPV pieces.
Yup japa. That’s my reading too. The confidence of the campaign is shown in pushing its message consistently, be it bain, jobs or economy despite the hissyfits from the third rate media and the pundtwits and the thugs. That’s why I get pissed off when people like bwd get it totally wrong and then start calling the campaign names like ‘useless’ and ‘panicking’. Fuck that kinda CL’ing, whether you’re an Obot or not.
Frankly, if any letters from any of the readers here are to be FP’ed, then I want them to be 100% positive and full of ideas how to move forward. One of the reasons I left dkos was all those stupid Dear Mr President emo letters. Enough with that shit.
Now I really need to get back to my sleep.
Thank you…
Japa your wisdom must guide as we face the Republicans and their overwhelming money chest. This really is no time to turn on each other. Like BWD and Chips I am concerned but I choose to turn my concern in a determination to work even harder than I did in 2008 to make sure the President is re-elected. And, while the Obama campaign team can benefit from constructive suggestions, I have the uttermost confidence that the team that engineered President Obama’s “improbable” election in 2008, know more than I do about how to win elections. Having said that, nothing diminishes my respect for both BWD and Chipsticks. They’ve both been among the most consistent, devoted and unapologetic supporters of President Obama. While I may have some disagreement with BWD’s open letter approach, I will never doubt her, and Chopsticks’, dedicated support for President Obama.
But but but I thought I was the Hair on Fire, firebagging emoprog?
I don’t know about “firebagging emoprog” but some of your posts do sometimes come across like your hair is on fire.
Not anymore! I have Company in the upper echelon!
Yes Sir!
LOL! Jovie this blog wouldn’t be the same w/o your comments.
You are too funny.☺☺☺
In 2008, people were screaming at PBO to fight back, go negative, this that and the other. He followed his own script, even against his own advisors at times.
This time the uproar is louder, more vicious….the lies are getting full press coverage. I don’t believe PBO his staff is not aware of what is going on; they are too smart for that. After all, if we see it, I’m sure they do.
But, you know what? This time I am getting my old bones involved. I did last time through donations and talking with friends. Now I am tweeting, finding ways to talk to people outside of my circle of friends, studying ways to communicate with uninformed voters.
In short, I have decided to not be blown about by every wind of discord and fear. I am not afraid of money- Money is powerful, but truth and love are far more powerful. I am part of the slingshot army; ain’t no Koch Brothers, Supreme Court, Addleson and Tea Party army of “giants” going to turn me around or get me feeling down.
I refuse to. let others tell me to give up or be afraid of puny Karl Rove with all his wealth and “power”. We have got one awesome, powerful president; one who had the nerve, the audacity to stand up for the gay community, women, students, AA’s, even those who still hate and despise him. (Talking about you veterans and blue collar workers and republican women.) He’s got more courage in his little finger than I have had in my entire lifetime. It is time for me to stand up, for once in my life.
God didn’t give me a spirit of fear, and I am not inviting that fear to dwell with me.
The worse thing I can do for this nation, my children, our future is to sit on my hands and do nothing. Whatever the outcome, I will never forgive myself for being silent or worrying myself into a state of despondency and a sense of futility.
If we are going to demand more action, more outspokenness, more vigilance, we should demand it of ourselves. That’s what I am going to do.
THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we should demand it of ourselves
“WE are the change we’ve been waiting for”
….. AND THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FIRED UP! eveingeorgia!!!
BIg hug as I stand and cheer!!! Bravo, eve! Bravo!
AMENNNNNNNNNNNNN @eve
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
This EveinGeorgia! Thank you so much.
Want to make sure you have not been purged from voter rolls. Check here. Make sure you enter all four digits for the year…
http://www.canivote.org/
P.S. Can someone please put this on twitter ? Thanks .
Done. Thanks, Linda.
Done!
Done.
Our new voter registrations cards were in last weeks mail. So it’s good to know all is well here in WA. Of course, we are a very blue state, and now we have mail-in voting, which lessens fraud and makes it so much easier to participate.
I received mine, too, a few days ago. Very efficient, they are.
TOO COOL!!!!
It even shows record of when and where you’ve voted.
This reminded me, though, that I need to update my voting address.
Thank you!
Maybe the Campaign should put this up on a national and state site basis….
Maybe they could put it at the end of every ad ?
BOTH!
They sent this out a couple of months ago and I posted it.
Also, this is one of the things that OFA is encouraging individual neighborhood Teams to do – update your neighbors voting information.
this is awesome
Thank you all…
🙂
Done.
done coolio
Is this supposed to be a whole thread about us wringing our hands and clutching our pearls about how President Barack Obama just isn’t perfect enough for us or doing enough for us? Jesus Gawd.
smh
You have to see this graduation speech 🙂
Pay attention especially right before the 7:00 mark…and watch to the end. Remember, Mitt thinks that teachers like this are not important.
Remember that…..and send this everywhere.
Yes…
I watched that earlier…
Pretty darn awesome. Mitt says we don’t need any more of these….
His father is the historian ?
oh this is very very good indeed df, thanks for posting it… love this part: “we’ve come to love accolades over genuine achievement..”
I’m not one to bash or name call, but I am disappointed that Chipsticks chose to post BWD’s comments and add on to it.
I volunteer, I make phone calls, I go to the OFA office. I see first hand the hard work the DNC and OFA people are doing. I hear the people who come from the OFA Chicago office via weekly conference calls. They relay their plans and it’s up to us to implement those plans. They freely ask us for our local opinions and impressions from the ground and respond accordingly.
This is why I trust my President and his Team.
Again, I repeat, I refuse to be a back-seat whining driver, but I will be an upfront positive volunteer in getting his messages out.
GGail, +1. And btw, our Venice+ team is having a screening of Robert Greenwald’s “Koch Brothers Exposed”. Info is here: http://goo.gl/h0Btm. You should come!
And just to be clear, I’m not condemning either bwd or Chips. We’re all human, and we all get down. But we just have to keep plowing ahead, because I think that Team Obama DOES know what it’s doing. It’s only June, and the vast majority of voters aren’t even tuned in yet.
Let us not forget one important thing here. POB and his team did not ask us to be his strageties. He asked us to stand with him, knock on doors for him, make phone calls, tweet our Congress, email our Congress, call our Congress, write a letter to our Congress, phone bank for him, share with our neighbors for him, donate for him, and let us go and “Change the World.” Remember. He has our backs, now can we just keep his back?
Then, remember we all have our day(s) hours, moments when all hecky breaks us down, but we are a special and loving family who are our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers. We have so much of our “better angels” coming forth daily here, so let us latch on to each other and ((((((( )))))))) and more Hugs. Let us keep our spirits’ space filled with good thoughts. Trust me, please, President Barack Obama Will do his part. All he needs us to do is keep his back. He knows what he is doing and up against, trust me TOD Family. I know that.
Now let us try to relax, let BWD feel our “better angels love and goodness” and watch over our own flock. When we get wounded by the snares of the opposition, be that media, pundits, tweeter, we have a greater force, we helped elect the 44th President of the United States, and we have new flock coming into the fold, let us not fold our tents on them as well.
Now who is ready for that hotttttttttttt photo of our beautiful POTUS in the rain, and our beautiful FLOTUS in one of those purple gowns or the red one(my favorite so far) and slip a nice glass of wine, or tea. and regroup, send out some beautiful hugs to BWD and Chips and settle in for some great The Obama Diary Family Love. Promise this senior that? Okay. I love you all so much..HZ
me
I was going to ask you if you all had that screening yet! Let us know how it went please…
I’ll be there Thursday! My ticket’s waiting for me at will call. Expect me to come out of there even more of a raging Obot.
Yes you will be raging, for sure!
Hey..
I am a ” producer ” of the film……I donated to help get it made….my name should show up ( supposedly ) on the credits….
I got a t-shirt with that ugly octopus sent to me for the donation.
YEA!!!! Kochtopus or whatever they call that “thing” !
Hah! Excellent!
GREAT! LL, I’ll try to make it. Go Venice Team Go!
Are you guys phonebanking CO next to inform a list of voters that their not registered for the mail-in ballot anymore because of a new law?
I kind of wish we could have north and south Cali competitions. Wouldn’t that be fun? Heh.
Yes, we have teams calling today as a matter of fact. I like the north/south Cali competition – power in motivation 🙂
That’s why I keep harping on people to get involved. The work that goes on in our neighborhoods, there’s just nothing that compares to it. The Monday regional and national conference calls, the emails full of data about our progress, the constant dashboard updates, the Truth Team input, Stephanie Cutter’s emails – not to mention the human contact with voters in your city. It’s just the only way to survive this election.
PBO said it best. Time to kick off your slippers and get into your boots and PRESS ON.
There you go, meta. Great encouraging words and much wisdom. Thank you for all that you do as well. HZ is ready to go again on Thursday. My legs are still killing me, but that is why I am resting and restoring my strength that I expended last week. PRESSON=FORWARD.HZ
Text from a friend of mine: ‘Short reading’ Wisdom 7:27, 8:1 “Although she is alone, Wisdom can accomplish everything. She deployed her strength from one end of the Earth to the other, ordering all things for good.”. He sent it to me, because this is a very tough day over here in skilled nursing, intense pain, discouragement, fatigue, despair. Those of us who are well, who are whole, who have our faculties intact, and are capable of doing good, must do so, whenever possible.
“She deployed her strength from one end of the Earth to the other, ordering all things for good.” That is powerful to take into one’s spirit.
(((((((((((( Thank you for your loving mind, hands, and heart, Pamela.))))))))))) HZ
*deploys
HZ, I see my iPad chose the word for me, but it is ‘deploys’ in his text. I am very moved by this as well, so love that you share it with me!
It’s good for supporters to express their views. That said, I have full confidence that PBO, Plouffe, Axelrod, Messina and the rest of the team know how to run a campaign. This campaign has five months to go. It is a process and you don’t fire off your all your ammunition in one burst or at the same time. You don’t also presume that the way you feel about PBO is going to be felt by the undecided voter. Most voters have made up their mind already. There are maybe 5-8% of voters in 8-10 states who are making up their mind. That is why the Obama campaign is using microtargeting techniques to reach out to those constituencies. I live in Oregon and I haven’t seen a campaign Ad yet. Because Oregon is not in play. So let’s give the Obama team some credit and not let our own anxieties run rampant.
I would also add that I have followed the state polling pretty closely, especially from reliable pollsters like PPP. The state races are pretty stable. Not a lot of change, despite the gasbags on TV. So stop watching them, stop listening to them, their interest is in presenting a horse race view that is volatile and up and down. Keep your eyes on the prize.
I get my exposure to the media gasbags from Twitter and here. Don’t subject myself to them in real time. My sanity is much more stable that way.
Take your slippers off and put your marching boots on… what happens depends on what we do. GOTV!
We are also PBO surrogates. We can discuss these issues, but don’t forget to get back on message on Facebook and Twitter … http://thehill.com/video/campaign/231889-obama-web-ad-bashes-romney-over-teacher-emergency-responder-funding
Yes, we are Imrj. Together we are a powerful voice.
I think people are being a little harsh with BWD and even chips who dared to wade in. We might not all agree on everything, but everyone who opines does it because they care so much, are so invested in this president and his re-election.
I have never for one minute been “disappointed” in President Obama. I am always so proud of him, that he’s our president. I see the reality of what he has had to deal with, unprecedented obstruction, and he carries on with dignity and perseverance, trying every day to do all he can to ease the lives of the American people, to bring important changes. But I do feel some disappointment with his supporting cast. I sometimes wonder where they are, and then when they do show up they wander off on their own personal pursuits, solidifying their creds with the Wall St. types for financing their own future interests and elections.
And tho I realize we’re not in full gear yet, I have felt the campaign and the Dem Party a little hapless so far, disorganized and reactive. Maybe we were spoiled last time because the whole operation seemed to be a well-oiled machine, exciting beyond belief, the improbable becoming reality. It was a thing of beauty and a joy forever.
And if I dare to wade into the stump speech thing, I don’t like so much concentration on the negative. I don’t like when he spends so much time saying things are bad, we said they were going to be bad, it takes time etc. etc. The crowd gets real quiet at that point in his speech. It tamps down enthusiasm. I agree with those who say he should tout his numerous accomplishments and be positive and optimistic every minute at his campaign rallies. People want and respond to optimism. And hope. And I also agree that his speechwriters could be a little more productive, updating the message and adding interest for President Obama and for his followers.
I do worry about all the money that Cit. United has unleashed. It’s shameful and so damaging to our democrcy. We will be inundated with negative ads. And I worry that “low information” voters will be influenced. And so it is more important than ever for all to be on message, a clear, simple, positive message, everyone united, repeating it at every opportunity.
I just think everyone needs to keep in mind that we all share the same goal, and no one, or no campaign, or no entity, should be above criticism. Nothing should be accepted blindly. All can use suggestions for improvement. I think everyone can, and should, chime in. It’s our campaign, as President Obama reminds us, and it’s our country we’re trying to save.
Well said dotster. I agree. And remember, the Republicans love to see us on the left go after each other. A lot of what they do is meant just as much to demoralize us and divide us as it is to convince people to vote for them. I for one, will not let them do that to me. Or job is to not let them do that. That is why I will not go after BWD and Chips. I will present them, and others, with the reasons I am not erly concerned at this point.
Yeah but, that should go for everybody. Sometimes, I go off the Reservation, and you would think I Beat down their Cousin, or something.
The Vitriol on these Blogs, can be somewhat overbearing.
But, I agree with your statement, disagree without getting personal.
Also, Once the name calling starts, it’s time for a new threads!
Jovie, I have your back, and agree.
Thanks!
Sometimes it’s important to step away from all media and go out into the world to listen to real people. Today I registered voters at another street fair, this one in an all white, Republican leaning area. I didn’t expect much action and figured our efforts would largely be ignored. The Democratic booth had big Obama/Biden banners, yard signs, flags, and a carton full of Obama/Biden buttons, Veterans for Obama, Women for Obama and Latinos for Obama. The fair started at 9:00 in the morning and by 1:30 we were cleaned out. All Obama buttons were gone except for the Latinos (since there were no Latinos on the street). We had brisk volunteer signups (a rarity in our county) and a respectable number of new voters (since most were already registered). And what did we hear? Anger against the GOP, including both Romney and PA Governor Corbett about education cuts. Anger at the negativity coming from the GOP. Intense anger at the voter suppression coming from the various state houses. Vets were scarfing up the Vets for Obama buttons and when I commented that the president had done a lot for vets, they said, “he sure has.” I did not hear one breath of criticism of the president, only remarks that he was doing a good job against tremendous jobs. Only once in the entire day, did a Republican walk by and say Mitt Romney. The Republican booth had NOT ONE Romney sign, handout or button. Nada. Zilch. They had signs for local candidates but nothing for their presidential candidate, which truly stunned me.
So what struck me was this. WE are focused on a lot of the beltway media, the emprogs, the cable nitwits, but ordinary people on the ground are not. They’re angry and they want to fight, but it’s the Republicans who are making them angry. The far right governors that the Koch brothers shepherded into office in 2010 are ending up being PBO’s biggest allies. They are making Republican governance so repulsive that people don’t want anymore of it. So my advice is go out your door and walk, run, or drive to your nearest OFA office and volunteer. Then go out and meet the people.
Oh, and if you can, learn to make Obama buttons and if you’ve got extra cash, stock up on Obama/Biden bumper stickers. Someone once described these items as “chum” or bait that attracts other fish. The buttons drew people in, helped us to identify supporters and led to conversations that resulted in volunteers and new voters. I had so many on my chest I looked like a four-star general, but it got attention and did the job.
THIS. Thank you jackie for that dose of reality from the real world.
I am still angry and can’t go to sleep. How does one person’s wrong reading of politics drags down the blog of positivity ?
‘the blog of positivity’–love that title, amk!
one thing that’s happened today is everybody’s had a chance to define their beliefs, re-commit to trusting our leaders, and make positive public statements about how we’re going forward together to win this election.
sometimes we need that ‘devil’s advocate’ to energize our thinking. we can get that here, as well as getting the happy news and the mutual support, knowing that the ‘devil’s advocate’ is also on the side of pbo. our conversations are constructive, and built to support the president.
so rest easy, and wake up refreshed, and we’ll see you tomorrow on ‘the blog of positivity’!
aloha!
Thanks, Jackie. I did that conversational break the ice in the wine store week before last. Two guys were headed to Venice Beach, and they were talking and I just happened to turn to them and ask them a question, and they had not heard of OFA. So, I ofcourse, had a little information in my bag, and they were happy to take it.
Now, I do not know what they did with it after they left me, but I gave it to them and gave them some new information. They were very nice. Just planting the seeds.HZ
Thank you Jackie, for this heartwarming and first-hand experience of actual people’s enthusiasm for our President. It does help to put things in perspective, and suggests that left and right media pundits “analyses” are mostly dictated by their need to make a living off their “stories” than anything else. I believe that much of the MSM narratives are actually the GOP’s “wishful thinking” version of political reality. It’s up to us to cast them aside and not let them distract us and dampen our enthusiasm.
How good is this! Thank you, Jackie:) Perfect way to show what happens in real American neighborhoods…..maybe we need to hear more of this from time to time:)
And the national MSM, and pundiotry will not report stories like that – in fact they will ACTIVELY suppress stuff like that. So it’s good when a fellow TODer shares with us.
BRAVO!!!! Love you, Jackie!!
Love you, too, meta. We all need each other.
Right on cue, jackie…look what I found that backs up exactly what you just said!
http://bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2012/06/youre-doing-great.html
Not-surprisingly, Governor Rick Scott’s voter purge crusade isn’t very popular and isn’t doing him any favors.
The PPP poll also reveals that 17 percent of Republicans polled would cast their vote for a generic Democrat if the next gubernatorial election were held today.
Florida’s 67 election supervisors, 30 of which are Republicans, are refusing to carry out Scott’s voter purge, meaning Rick Scott has virtually nothing to show for his efforts other than another bruise on the Republican party’s and potential VP candidate Marco Rubio’s image.
Rick Scott, the nation’s most unpopular governor, is the best campaigner Democrats could ever hope for in the state of Florida. You’re doing great!
My dad lives in FL…PEOPLE ARE PISSED! He says NO ONE down there will vote for this guy again! And Republicans are getting ALL the blame for this. Exactly where it belongs!
Way to go jackie!
Dear gawwd you don’t know how happy and uplifted your post made me.
Thank you~
I think we ALL should do what Jackie is doing and STOP attacking one another. President Obama does not need to hear from us about what HE SHOULD BE DOING in his campaign. We should be giving him money, supporting his team, volunteering, getting people signed up, attacking the GOP & MSM with tweets, but leave the running of the campaign to people who know what they are doing. There will always be pundits, journalist, bloggers, putting out something that the “president” should be doing. If you agree, fine….if you disagree then let your feeling be known to the pundit, journalist, blogger, etc., you don’t need to tell the president or his handlers “see what they’re saying?”.
I am following Jackies lead….you can join us or do what you wish. I know I will be attacked but I love and respect all of you here.
PEACE!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!

teehee..
Where is the spicy mustard problem.?
Oh, right! The Obama likes Grey Poupon! Problem?
Obama’s Malia age problem.
I get frustrated by the corruption in the media, yes….but I don’t get discouraged…..it is the same as 2008,….the flag pig, Rev Wright 24/7……they own the airwaves so we have to get the truth out through social medias.
There’s one thing that is really encouraging to me.
-CNN ratings are in free fall, losing 56% of their viewers…….what does it means really? People are not buying their RW BS…..they wanted to turn right, far right….that’s the results.
-Meet the Press ratings are the lowest in over 20 years……..get a RWer as a host…..70% of Repug guests…..that’s the results.
So if people were really buying what they’re selling…..their ratings would be way up…not way down right?….
I put all my faith in the debates……President Obama will crush him……..
It’s a lot more than just the economy, all their far right positions are scary to a lot of people.
can’t forget his hawaii problem!
That pretty much sums it up. Quite amazing really. I remember all those “problems”. The media has been busy as bees! They have to be exhausted!
And just perhaps, maybe, the problem he has that he is so HOT, (and thus has so many genuine admirers ( who also love his beautiful wife!))
Pales in comparison to the DOG problem! Or the POLICE problem! Or the Firefighter problem! Or the teacher problem! AH!
how about the:
– Younger Voter Problem,
– French and Germany Popularity Problem,
– Kenyan relatives Problem
– Hollywood Support Problem,
– Millitary Brass Problem.
Gosh we have heard it all haven’t we
Let’s not forget what this President is best at.

TOD Family, I think Meta and Cookmon just taught me. I hope I am a great student. Now let us see if it works. Thanks meta and cookmon!!(((((( Love you all)))))) I am stressed out, if this does not work.HZ
PERFECT!! You’re a quick study, HZ. Love you back!!
Let Chips know you want to be featured in a fundraiser. Put your link on twitter and send to your friends and family with a note about how important this election is. I find that asking for small donations ($5, $10) works well but I always add, “or more.” There’s also all the buttons you need to do this on your fundraiser page.
Now, the only suggestion I have for you is to personalize your page in some way. Put your name on it and a favorite photo of PBO or something. Make it your own!!
1) Hit the Edit button.
Write a paragraph about yourself or PBO!
2) upload a photo
Click on Use a new picture and there you go! Just be sure to click on the “Finish” button to save all your change.
BRAVA, HZ!
Oh, meta, and cookemon, thank you. So, it works. I am so proud of this task. I am not like all of my wonderful lovely ones here who are so computer brilliant. You all make me so happy to have the honor to be here. This is what I mean about who we really are on TOD. Chips, makes it happen. I said at the beginning, this is a beautiful haven, and you all just showed the world today that it is. Thanks(((Love you all so very much))))
I will go and do the suggestions that you gave me, Meta. Thanks so much. I hope that I will not mess it up. First, I need to write Chips and make sure it is okay to mentioned this on our site. I forgot all about that. Ooops. HZ
I just donated to your fundraising page HZ. I am so proud of you and love you very much. Good Luck!

Thank you GGail. I am going over now to make the suggestions that meta gave me. I hope I do not mess it up now. Love you back. Take care and be joyful always.HZ
The cable, TV, print media, Internet and blogosphere are all obsessed with President Obama.
The 2016, 2020, 2024 Presidential elections will be teeming with more narratives about President Obama than any of the actual candidates
Because, the Pundits hang with Tea baggers and may just be the Tea bagger MSM!
The long version….
perfect, linda! all smiles now!
meta’s Business Insider story hits here too:)
http://bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2012/06/doing-just-fine.html
We started this day mobilizing on twitter alerting everyone to the fact that Pres. Obama was right when he said the private sector was doing fine. We tweeted out Obama 2012 videos showing Romney’s economic plan is fewer cops, fewer fighters, and fewer teachers. We volunteered, made calls, facebooked and guess what? A lot of media types changed the conversation and began taking a concrete look at how Pres. Obama’s policies have made the private sector come back in gratifying ways and how the GOP’s obstruction made public sector jobs basically obsolete.
Then to come here and read BWD’s hair on fire memes just makes me scream OH MAH GAWD!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!! Step away from listening to pundits who don’t know jack. Go out and volunteer. You’re depressed or mad about what the pundits said about PBO? Donate to his campaign, tweet concrete info about his accomplishments, Facebook, do like Ellen Degeneres does and listen to some music that gets you on your feet and makes you dance, dance, dance.
Bottomline: Do anything that does not involve handwringing, oh woe is me attitude because frankly, I’m tired of it. I’m tired of that crap that seems to happen every other week. It’s 2012. We have to keep our eye on the prize. It was never Yes He Can; it was Yes We Can.
I have grown so tired of this…..
these undercover attacks on the President…
it came with the battle on contraception….PBO was going to sell us out…and how if he did not come down on the right side…that was it for you..then came the issue of same sex marriage….you sent a letter to PBO then about his shortsightedness….
anddddddddddddddd…..PBO came thru both times…..
now here we are…another letter….
“and I’m utterly petrified that he will be beaten in November by execrable right-wing forces, and their allies on the fake ‘progressive’ left”
and thennnnn…….
telling the President and his campaign……
But don’t they need to get their act together, very soon?
and i guess that because Chips…has agreed to post it…that she feels the same….
there is so much that i want to say…so much that i am feeling right now….
but this is what i will say….
you say the President and his team are brilliant….yet you question every step they make…
you say that the PBO and his team are awesome….yet you show so much mistrust…
there is a contradiction going on here…..
i Hate that letter….it is full of arrogance…mistrust….and doomsday…..
CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!
THIS: “you say the President and his team are brilliant….yet you question every step they make…you say that the PBO and his team are awesome….yet you show so much mistrust…there is a contradiction going on here…..”
Once again: CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!
As my dearly departed friend took me aside and schooled me once ‘Do not allow OTHER’s anxieties, fears and well-meaninged advice infect your enthusiastic spirit. It does not do anything for you except make YOU anxious,fearful,cautious,second-guess yourself ..and miserable. Therefore, feel the fear…and do it anyway. Forward!
UT/ keep on keeping on …you fierce warrior, you!
I agree, fully. I have to say that I believe the President has this. I can’t volunteer, or even call, for various reasons, but I do twitter ALOT, all the time, and I have seen what UTAustinliberal says, the ability to change the narrative through twitter. I feel gratified and have a sense of accomplishment. I spend about 2-3 hours a day passing on tweets, finding articles supportive of PBO, sending them via twitter to the news organizations, and see many of my fellow twitterers doing the same. I know we can change the world doing this, so I do it as much as I can. I believe in PBO, Biden, Axelrod, Plouffe, Michelle, Jill Biden, Stephanie Cutler, and the rest of the team. We all should.
Wishing EVERYONE a great Saturday, too!
Lawd hab mercy y’all!!! I step away after the last thread, and here, there’s still more of it. Now that I’m another year wiser, I’ll just impart this pearl. Unless Willard wins something like 4/5 of the swing states, he can’t win. PBO on the other hand only has to win 1-3. Of course we have to press on as if we need all of the swing states, but I’m sure the internals that Axe and Plouffe are pondering, has nothing to do with any blog site, letter to the editor, twit or twat. They monitor it, so when we see them start to panic, I guess we can get to quivering. Until then, keep it strong.
“If anyone asks you what this campaign is about, tell them it’s still about hope. It’s still about change.”
http://immasmartypants.blogspot.ca/2012/06/pic-poll-and-tune.html?spref=tw
Yes. We. Can.
This is my two cents, but I needed to say it anyway. Yes, I am fired up and yes, I agree with Chips that PBO’s campaign is up against forces we have no idea about! But you know what, he has the support like the dedicated people here on TOD and we’re willing to work our asses off to get him re-elected. BWD’s letter is a wake up call for us to not slack off. We need to be ambassadors for PBO’s campaign each and every minute of each and every day for the next four months, in whatever capacity we can. Volunteer for the campaign, donate money, make his case with neighbors, friends and family. That being said, I think it behooves the campaign to pay attention to BWD’s letter. I know BWD is a loyal and dedicated supporter, but if she feels that way, there are plenty more like her who feel the same way, and we, and the campaign, should not ignore the sentiment. Like BWD says, we may see a different tone after the convention, and I do hope that is the case. But we, as ambassadors, need to set that tone starting now. Instead of reacting to MSM-fueled pseudo controversies, we need to duel on the positive and educate ourselves to the all the wonderful things that this administration has already done.
We can do it. FORWARD!!

Rahm chimes in——says election will be decided in 5 states
What the fuck is wrong with everyone? Mitt Romney has tons of cash, has been campaigning non- stop, has been to every swing state YET, the President LEADS him in every poll (and electoral college votes) worth its weight. The President LEADS among voters donating 250 bucks or less. The President LEADS him in volunteers who are knocking on doors, phone banking, laying the foundation for victory in November.
And the Obama voters are the ones whose hair is on fire? Should Mitt not be worried that he is losing to a President with an 8% unemployment, 1 on going war in Afghanistan and a clusterfuck of chaos in the Middle East?
When I vote, I look at the alternative…not the almighty. I would suggest Obama supporters do the same. Could the economy be better..yes (although the GOP is the one that broke it and now refuse to help fix it), Could the war in Afghanistan be better….yes (although Karzai is an ass and Pakistan invites terrorists over for breakfast). So on almost every measure the President could have done this or that better…but you know what, I wish my husband would put down the toilet seat or squeeze the toothpaste from the bottom of the tube and not the middle- But this is no cause for divorce. We do ourselves a grave disservice if we question the folks who got Barack Hussein Obama elected.
Right…very good point…..he has been campaigning for 6 years at least…..he is a sociopath, he took the art of lying to a master level…..McCain picked Palin over him…..like come on…….
He has the media on his side and the President is ahead in pools in so many states……
It’s only noise, watching the media is like watching a Karl Rove attack ad…..
*polls
You made me laugh 🙂 Yes! “Let’s Stay Together.” BTW, I once had a roomate with a little boy. After hearing him drop that seat so many times, i’s really not that bad just leaving it up 🙂
Ok, here are my two cents.
I’m not going to attack either bwd or Chips. As I said above, we’re all human, and pessimism is a very human trait.
I’m just going to relate the exchange I just had.
One of my regular patrons, Keith, came in today. I may have mentioned him before. He’s a fierce Obama supporter, but has one fatal flaw: he watches the MSM, and doesn’t know how to filter out its garbage. I’ve been preparing for him all day, because I knew that he would come in with a cloud of doom.
He came in 15 minutes before I was off to lunch (which I’m having now, mmmmm, Del Taco carnitas). I told him he had me for 15 minutes, and he said “Ah short and sweet. Not that there’s much to talk about. The news is bad.” At which point I cut him off and asked “What have you done for the campaign?” He laughed and said that he knew that would be my response, but it was a gallows laugh. I then spent the next 15 minutes methodically knocking down every issue he brought up, from polling to the economy. By the end he thanked me for the words of encouragement. He’s disabled — his knees are shot — so he can’t easily go volunteer. I told him that he can phonebank from the comfort of his couch — with MSNBC and CNN turned OFF.
I admitted to him that I, too, had been a bit down after Wisconsin. It was one of the reasons I’ve been scarce around these parts for a few days, besides the fact that wifey’s been ill. But as I told Keith, curling up in a corner is NOT an option. The moment is too important. And as I was telling him this, I felt it welling up inside me. I grew fiercer, more determined to see Barack Hussein Obama re-elected and Dems in control of the House.
There are only two speeds at which we can run this summer and fall: stop and go. Stop leads us to President Rush Limbaugh. Go leads us to a country worth calling home. I’m on go.
On the previous threat I said that I had received my copy of American Grown. I have now READ my copy of American Grown, and I love it. It is inspirational, informative, beautiful…….and when I finished, I realized why the Right Wing hates the Obamas: They are taking us back to real values, real food, families together, co-operation, not competition, the earth and all its wonder…….away from the artificial and plastic.
Then, when I opened my email, I saw a letter from FLOTUS, telling about the KIDS State Dinner, and how one young person and adult accompanier will be chosen from each state to come to D.C. and share dinner and a recipe with the First Lady. OKAY…….you know that gets the goat of every self-important pundit in D.C., and every eatablished society matron in D.C……….
These two have not operated like they were “supposed” to, and they cannot be forgiven by the old whiny establishment. WE, however, and all those children who get involved, and their parents, and their supporters will LOVE it.
This couple is the most creative two people ever to live in the White House. They are indeed changing everything…….Just wait for the second term!!!
By the way….I’m seeing Obama 2012 stickers even here in Red State Oklahoma!
Get out of town! In OK??? Obama stickers?? I may have to reconsider my stance on the Mayans.
AND! in yesterday’s mail, I received my copy of the 2012 official Presidential print: PBO with Bo, outside the door of the Oval Office! The cool part is, that is exactly the shot I had on my laptop as wallpaper! How did DWS know? 🙂
*Commemorative print (2012)
carolyn, I sent my First Lady email about the “State Dinner just for kids” to my family in Michigan, Georgia and Utah. I want everyone who has a child of that age to know that THIS White House is the People’s House!
Thank you, Carolyn, that was an absolutely brilliant analysis. I wish everyone would read and internalize these words:”they are taking us back to real values, real food, families together, co-operation, not competition, the earth and all its wonder..away from the artificial and the plastic.” Tweet this, print it on a poster with a photo of the president and First Lady, put in on a t-shirt, share it on facebook. This is truth.
Regarding FLOTUS.. and gardening: I have been planning for my new (I hope) garden my new house (I hope) and thus last night purchased a magazine called “Backyard Solutions”.. and lo & behold on page 8 is a question from a reader that mentions our dear First Lady…
Q: Michelle Obama has put vegetable gardens more on the front burner as a key option; what types should homeowners include? Should they mix in flowers and plants?
Sooo.. people ARE paying attention to all kinds of things regarding our President, First Lady, VP. My own mom, who turned 79 this week was frustrated w/ a member of her church who sends our Fox inspired emails to my mom & other people and thus came to me for a little direction because at 79 SHE knows when she’s being fear mongered and BSd 🙂
We just keep moving forward in whatever way we’re able to. So I say chin up to all of us. Marching boots polished over here 😉
I didn’t read Klein’s article, but who has been ‘controlling’ public sector jobs? Haven’t the Repubs been puttin ga spoke in the wheel whenever they could?
Any of them are fiscal hawks
Here is a message we could get behind and push instead of …..
On vacation or not on vacation, there’s no difference….I prefer them to be away from Washington……..
And they still get paid, with full benefits, medical and dental, unlike so many of us, who can barely afford to take 5 days off every few months! Something just not right about this, eh?
but teachers, firefighters, police officers, and all kinds of other government workers are laid off because of budget cuts? our social workers here are on furlough–four day weeks. anybody ever known a social worker who could get their job done in even a 40 hour week? you’re damn right, pamela, there is indeed something wrong here! essential services suffering, while rethugs take a holiday.
Oh Christi, I prefer them to be away from Washington too, just not while they are on taxpayers’ money! As Pamela remarked, they are on full salary and benefits while playing their little games with the economy. This is the message I want us to keep pointing out – they aren’t suffering while they hold the American people hostage. You can guarantee if their shenanigans affected their salary the ‘no’s’ wouldn’t have lasted this long.
I respectfully disagree with BWD’s open letter. Unfortunately, some of us are not strong enough for the dirty, drag out fights, and that’s ok! The key thing to remember is that a weak link can destroy the chain and we just can’t have that. This fight is only gonna get worse, so maybe it’s a good idea to just walk away for a little bit…no cable, no tweeting, just walk away – but stuff like this, will pull the rest of us down and that is just not right!
BWD is right and so is globalcitizenlinda. Friends should be allowed to point out obvious flaws (to be in denial is not helpful). By the same token globalcitizenlinda offers sensible, practical advice about how to help the Obama campaign on a daily basis. Plouffe and Axelrod are great but they’re not perfect – nobody is and that’s a fact.
There is no right or wrong ..just an opinion. As imperfect as they are, ,they sure got ‘er done in 2008 though.
That’s true – there is no right or wrong – nonetheless 2008 was nearly 4 years ago – it’s a different time and the world has changed with all new problems which can be and is being exploited by the other side. If you want to know why the world loves PBO it’s because we are sick of stupid warmongers like W and Cheney trying to drag allies into fighting illegal wars. Like it or not when America melts down it usually affects everybody else. PBO hasn’t had a number of achievements properly communicated since he took office – that’s just a fact that he, himself, is the first to admit to. And Michael Tomasky is a pretty good reporter who does a great deal to call out Republicans and support PBO. I can’t see the point in freaking out everytime a reporter favourable to the campaign pens the odd criticism. Sometimes critique can be helpful. PBO is working his ass off and he deserves a team that’s worthy. The sooner everyone realises it’s not 2008 anymore the better IMHO
Just my 2 cents of opinion. He has a “worhy” team in Axelrod and Plouffe! I think half the problem is a lot of folks can’t let go of 2008, and the other half have short memories. Against all odds, PBO is in the whitehouse. Against all kind of odds we are not in a depression. The most amazing is that the president has MANY paths to the whitehouse, and most swing state data is looking really good.
I hate doom and gloom when there is no reason to be. All I can say is I’m sure the president and team have healthy egos that can stand disagreements and critiques. I know this president can stand his ground and proceed as his mind tells him too. Thank you to all the folks saying to volunteer, volunteer, volunteer.
It’s Time.
Thanks, Df! I too believe we can, and will, do it all again. 😆
This is awesome! Was cheesing all the way through 😀
that is the very good affirmative message: “in 2012, I believe we can do it again,…. PBO”
Wow, I just had to come out of lurkedom to respond to this post. I just want to say I am AA woman who is totally devoted to POTUS and FLOTUS.. Of course, I get frustrated with the media but sometimes you really just have to in the words of MO ‘ turn off the stupid’.. You cannot allow yourself to get sucked in. In November, my daughter will be voting for the first time. She is so excited to vote for PBO. She is also going to make sure all of her friends are registered and voting. The media doesn’t even talk about first time voters. Never..ever..They also, talk about how the ‘working white class voter’ is the only vote that counts and that PBO struggles with them. What about the black working class vote or the Hispanic working class vote ??
I do not want to offend any of my white brothers and sisters.. However, I think black folks get upset but we just don’t get defeated that easy.. We never thought this day would come.. we have been to the mountain top and there is no way I can allow myself to feel demoralized. PBO is in an amazing place for re-election..state by state he is doing great..also, don’t forget about the debates. He is going to crush Romney.. I will never give up or ever give in..
I agree with BWD. I know everyone on here tends to think everything is going well all the time, but in reality it is not. Yes, Republicans have a lot of money. Yes, the media is spewing Republican talking points. However, that doesn’t change the reoccuring problem that President Obama and his staff has, which is a messaging problem. President Obama cannot wait until AUGUST to speak on his accomplishments, and get aggresive with Mitt. It’s good that his advisors are on Twitter, but a huge perentage of the electorate aren’t on Twitter, and they don’t watch the daily pressers. It’s vital that he and his staff start now, and go to all the ethnic groups, youth, and seniors, and let all these groups know what he has done for them. His accomplishments are great, but many Americans still don’t know what he has done for them. It’s our job to tell what he has done, but also, his job too. Especially since he has a bigger platform.
And herein lies the problem: Much of what you accuse the President/campaign of is simply untrue. And that unfortunately is very typical of those who accuse the President of having a “messaging problem” whatever the hell that is.
1. “President Obama cannot wait until AUGUST to speak on his accomplishments,”
President Obama has repeatedly, loudly and clearly been speaking about his accomplishments. At EVERY SPEECH since he officially launched his re-election campaign he has very forcefully recited a long string of his accomplishments starting with the phrase “This is what CHANGE looks like!” It is factually incorrect to imply that he has not done so.
2. “It’s good that his advisors are on Twitter, but a huge perentage of the electorate aren’t on Twitter, and they don’t watch the daily pressers. It’s vital that he and his staff start now, and go to all the ethnic groups, youth, and seniors, and let all these groups know what he has done for them.”
Again, another uninformed position. What do you think OFA is? OFA is a grassroots position featuring volunteers and Surrogates reaching out to people, knocking on doors, phonecalls, canvassing, and educating and informing all ethnic groups, youth, seniors, other groups about what this campaign is all about, what the President has been accomplishing, and why they need to get involved, etc. Obama has held numerous townhalls, fundraisers and speeches at different institutions. The President has been traveling all over the country, along with FLOTUS, VP Biden, giving speeches, local TV interviews etc.
3. “but many Americans still don’t know what he has done for them. It’s our job to tell what he has done, but also, his job too”
Again, after the last 3 years, if someone doesn’t know what this president has accomplished, it’s because they are not interested in knowing.
“And herein lies the problem: Much of what you accuse the President/campaign of is simply untrue.”
Thank you. You did an excellent job breaking it down.
I don’t think “everyone here tends to think everything is going well all the time”. No one has said that. What most think is that WE MUST work our asses off however and whichever way we can. We believe in President Obama and think that it is better stay positive while we work hard and not give into fear and anxiety.
If you haven’t noticed, the President has crisscrossed the country for months. He has talked to young folks on several college campuses. He had a fundraiser with the gay community (watch or listen to Stephanie Miller). He has spoken in predominately AA communities. He has spoken on Latino programs. The man has not slowed down all the while dealing with the G8 and G20, overseeing the further taking out of Al qaeda leaders, pushing for his jobs bill and on and on.
There is a saying. You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink. There is no doubt that WE should do more to inform people. But there is such a thing as willfully uninformed. I know young WOMEN who are totally unaware of the fight going on with birth control/contraception. Now this has been all over the TV. There are people who don’t read newspapers, watch the news or bother to keep up with current events. Many Americans are just plain apathetic. At some point they will need to be responsible for informing themselves.
If this “letter” was written exactly the same but instead was a diary on DKOS, would it still warrant a front page posting? I don’t think so.
But I’m not surprised it was, and I fully expect their to be another “open letter” for some other reason as well.
After the last letter, I seriously contemplated no longer posting here, because it was obvious that above all a certain someone seemed to always get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to concern trolling and “hair on fire” moments, but if anyone else posted the same level of “hair on fire” moments they are called out and told to cut it out. It’s not fair but I get it, it’s Chips blog and she obviously can do what she likes.
I’ve already decided to take a break from watching media anyway, and I’ve already widdled down my blogroll to six, I’m sorry to say, but I think until after POTUS is elected, I’m gonna have to go to lurker status here at TOD as well.
I like you guys here at TOD, but I’m done commenting I think. I will still be reading everything and tweeting as much as possible. I really like a lot of you guys here and I appreciate all the support since I’ve joined, but I’m done.
Anyway guys, please follow me on twitter (@psddluva4evah) and tell me you’re from TOD and I’ll follow you as well.
Time to start lurking.
I am a lurker lamh35. I’ll miss reading your comments, especially the personal ones regarding your job search, and whether to move to New Orleans. Sometimes though it is good to take a break. Recently I had to go out of town for 2 days. I really missed TOD, and never quite caught up. I come for the pretty pics, vids and information. I get caught up in the personal and the personalities too. 🙂
I am still taking that break after Wisconsin. It feels good. We need a real media, that does research and digs for the truth and calls out lies. Until them, I’ll hunt out the BBC, Al jazeerah and the information posted here. I have not even read “the open letter” and may not read it. It’s too gloomy for me. I figure with all the “help” and money Mitt is getting he’s not doing well. Bain, and getting hit on his record as govenor hurts. I have no doubt that the president and his team will be rolling out in a strong way a presentation on our story of the last 4 years and his vision for our future. Afterall this is a conversation he is anxious to have. I figure some folks just have no patience. Timing is vital.
Anyway, I hope you will not give up posting all together, but do recommend a break. Take care Lamh35.
Don’t leave – that is a defeat and what the whiners want. Keep working it!
may I suggest that you please reconsider your decision to stop commenting.
if you depart then you leave others (who you may not necessarily agree with) to take your spot.
we all never know when a comment we make or a link to a story we provide will be just what some other person and PBO-supporter needs to read and get through that day.
yes we can be unhappy and lurk for as long as we want but it may not be the best thing to do to quit or stay silent because “who will represent YOUR opinion if you quit or remain silent?”
lamh I don’t think you should stop posting – your posts are very important here. I too disagree strongly with BWD, but don’t see this as a reason to stop posting on an otherwise very positive and useful blog.
I have to say that one of the hardest things about 2008 was volunteering time, money and energy trying to help him win and then going to the barackobama.com board and reading discouraging comments about how we were doomed to lose. It was like a slap in the face. The last thing we need to do is convince ourselves nothing is working and we’ll never beat the Republicans. So please consider what you say in the context of the volunteers who are walking the blocks, spending their cell phone minutes, donating money, going to street fairs, registering voters and delivering snacks to OFA offices. They deserve everyone’s support.
The democratic party has always had issue with humility..too much of it….PBO list your accomplishments, sing your praises tell the world what a remarkable performance record you have. Say it over and over again. I attended the Florida fundraiser in April and he was not electrifying
Like I wanted him to be… He was on the stump but on the script. Just keep saying look at what I have done with a stonewall hill……haters, liers, lobbyists, crooks and more haters… We lov u, support u but brag, remind us how celestial you are your from the Gods….
Maybe he’s just tired of having to do it all. It would be great for him to know we have his back, without any question.
When him and his team start listing his accompishments on many platforms. That is when articles like, “He hasn’t done much for the African American community/Latinos/Youth/Vets,” will dwindle down. People outside of political junkies will be excited to vote and canvass again.
Maybe it’s because I don’t get to see many of PBO’s speeches, but I was far from bored with his latest speeches, especially the one in Iowa (the first one of the campaign?) where Michelle introduced him. It was fantastic! I think the press conference again reinforced the opinion that he is an intelligent, highly competent individual who can speak off the cuff about any number of issues and has full command of them. While I respect BWD enormously, I have to disagree with much of your letter. Sorry. I know you feel passionately with PBO being our best.president.ever, but can’t you trust him a little more?
My answer to it all –
IF you believe in the President Obama and the work that he and his administration have done,
THEN there are a few things you can do.
Check in with the campaign in your area to find out what they need you to do. It will probably be one of the following things:
*** Register new voters ***
*** Call your neighbors and others ***
*** Knock on doors to talk ‘face-to-face’ with your neighbors ***
*** Learn how to do data entry ***
*** OR *** If there is something that you think needs to be done, by all means, help them do it!! ***
IF everyone keeps doing this on a regular basis,
THEN we will have the PRESIDENT WE DESERVE.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Until then, KEEP, KEEP, KEEEEEEP MARCHIN’, KEEP MARCHIN’ ON!!!!
Axelrod, Plouff AND the president can all do better, and they should. And so should every Democrat, Liberal and Progressive in this country. We learned from the Occupy movement that when we speak in unison our voices are heard.
It’s time for us to take control of the narrative, defining ourselves FOR ourselves, and once and for all defining the GOP for who and what they really are.
That’s become my single-minded focus this election cycle, and why I built an extraordinary team of messaging and marketing experts, and formed The Winning Words Project.
Please visit our site (become a regular!), and help us spread the word using Progressive frames to win elections!
This is what we had to say about the fallout from Friday’s press conference: http://www.winningwordsproject.com/how_president_obama_and_democrats_should_be_responding_to_gop_backlash
Thanks so much in advance for your support!
Lately, BWD, a person I greatly admire, has been invoking the mythical FDR without specificity! I have the uttermost respect for BWD. I am sure she is motivated by her desire to help the President. But as a student of history, I wish people, like BWD, who are so fond of invoking FDR to criticize President Obama would be honest enough to compare the context that FDR operated in and the context that President Obama is operating in.
FDR was re-elected in 1936 when unemployment rate was still more than double the unemployment rate today. For African Americans, the unemployment in 1936, when FDR was re-elected, was still over 35-40% in many of their communities. This was the reality despite the fact that FDR had supper majority Democrats in both houses of Congress. In fact unemployment got a bit worse in 1937, a year after FDR’s was re-elected for a second term. Any time the media pundits opine that no president has ever been re-elected with unemployment over 8% you should know that they are purposely lying. FDR, who is now considered one of the greatest president, may be even the greatest, was re-elected not once, or twice, but three times, with unemployment over 8%.
Even in 1941, following FDR’s third election, unemployment was still very high, especially in the African American communities. That’s why A. Philip Randolph organized the forgotten first “March on Washington” to put pressure on FDR to open up jobs for African Americans in the Defense industries. It took FDR three and half terms, and the unprecedented mobilization of world war II to finally break the grip of the Depression. The notion that some how FDR came in, in his first term, and offered solutions that immediately ended the Depression is based on mythology and not on real history. It took FDR more than twelve years, and massive government spending for mobilization for World War II, to finally end the Great Depression. Any one who says otherwise is not telling the truth about FDR’s presidency.
This is why I am so disappointed that BWD, a person I highly respect and believe that she is a sincere her supporter of President Obama, has chosen to subscribe to the mythology of FDR. Just so that I am not misunderstood, I think FDR was a good, though not perfect, president. Many of his New Deal policies (some enacted in his second term) transformed the country. But when it came to the issue of employment, FDR was not able to solve that in his first or second terms. Who knows, if Hitler and Japan hadn’t gone crazy, if FDR would have solved the unemployment problem in his third and fourth terms. People who try to compare FDR’s 13 years in office with President Obama’s 3 &1/2 years in office are not being fair. While FDR inherited the Great Depression he did not inherit any wars. Compare that to the situation President Obama inherited: a country on the verge of total financial collapse, the worst recession since the Great Depression, two wars On top of that he had to deal with an opposition party whose number one goal was to ensure that he fails, even if that meant that the American people would be severely hurt in the process, and a vocal opposition from the left that enjoyed widespread media coverage. You can then add to that the most hostile media that any president had to endure. I challenge all the admires of the great FDR to show me how FDR faced the same problems as President Obama. You see, for me, it’s not enough to invoke FDR without putting FDR in context!
I am late to this discussion, but I think that some supporters who may feel “bored” is because you follow President Obama so closely that you have seen his speech 50 times. I don’t know, but I am not bored by his stump speech, and the crowds that he is speaking to don ‘t seem to be bored. President Obama is very hands on deck where his speech writing is concerned, so I think that what he is delivering right now is strictly the things that he wants to say. He does not let anybody push him around and he does not do anything that he does not agree with. Axelrod and Plouffe are two of the best at what they do, and I don’t doubt them because without their strategic maneuvering, I personally feel that President Obama would not be President today. President Obama is running ads in swing state markets addressing his accomplishments, where it is more important to be getting the message out. I live in SC, but I guess the ad is for the NC media market so I get the ad, and it is very good. Where the speech is concerned, most people are not like “us,” and they don’t watch the President’s speeches in their entirety. They see bits and pieces on their local news. One thing that I do know is that the electorate normally does not tune in until after the summer, and I think that is why the campaign is not going all in at this point. I don’t think that it would serve them well. I think that one of the most effective tools that we will have on our side will be the debates. That is the best platform for President Obama to contrast himself from Mitt Romney. In the end, we are all passionate, but that does not make us qualified to run a campaign, or to know exactly what it takes to run a campaign.
well said!. I was on the phone with one of those low information voters, and she was scared about the ACA and losing her healthcare. I explained some things to her, and she listened and understood a little better. Sometimes that is all we can do, answer questions and clear up misconceptions. A little sometimes makes a difference, by November.
Good for you Dee.
