I’m not feeling some of these tossup states

    • 21 japa21
      June 7, 2012 at 10:53 am

Personally, I don’t see PBO losing any of Sabato’s toss up states which would give him 332. Plus, I look to see NC, MO (call me crazy) and possibly AZ in play. That would bring him to 368. With the tea party Senate candidate in IN, that could put that in play, which would give him 379. Pull in one NE district like he did before and he is at 380. Much more unlikely, but not totally out of the realm of possibility are TN, GA and TX. All very long shots.

      • June 7, 2012 at 10:55 am

Ah, interesting Japa, I was wondering what people would make of his map. Oh Texas….. wouldn’t that be sweet?

        • 23 japa21
          June 7, 2012 at 11:00 am

I think we will know by mid-September if the campaign sees any of those extra states as in play. Normally, I wouldn’t give PBO a chance in hell of winning TX, but with the changing demographics, the evangelical distrust of Romney (fully warranted, btw) and the improving economy, I can see a “Road to Victory” in TX. But, I do realize that is mostly wishful thinking and the odds are probably 50-1 against.

            June 7, 2012 at 11:01 am

BTW, in 2008 I did predict the EV count on the button. Not that that means anything this year.

            • June 7, 2012 at 11:16 am

I had a copy of that famous spreadsheet from the ’08 primary campaign and, wow, do they have brilliant numbers guys charting each district on the map. It’s just staggering how they played it all out and Plouffe was nearly right on the mark, with just a couple of surprises along the way. We have a very tough fight ahead but I never ever lose confidence in our team and in the President’s ability to reach into the hearts of the American people.

          • June 7, 2012 at 11:13 am

There’s no chance in TX and we shouldn’t waste money there. Maybe in 2-3 cycles when the demographics changes will have a real impact. We should focus at OH, VA, FL, NV and CO, and if we see a real chance in NC too. Also, according to all recent polls, NH is not toss up by any mean.

I think we should identify congressional races and hit them hard. That’s how Republicans built their power – finding conservative districts no matter what the state. That’s how they built the odious Waukesha and Washington counties in Southeast WI. I would like to see significant money going into demographically viable congressional seats.

                June 7, 2012 at 11:46 am

Also, we need to work very hard to get control of state legislatures now, so they are secure come 2020 when redistricting will be in play again. I don’t like the way redistricting is handled in most states, even when it benefits our side, but it is what it is and we ignore it at our peril.

      June 7, 2012 at 11:30 am

Hmm.. If this map holds true (and it’s a loong time till November), we’ll need 23 electoral votes. Just winning Florida will do it, which is why what’s going on there is quite concerning. I hope we carry Ohio and Virginia otherwise if we lose Florida, we’d have to win all the other toss-ups. This is all on the assumption that the map is accurate, of course.

      June 7, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Look at the PPP map (best state pollster ) and OH, Iowa, NV definitely not toss-up. I would put VA as leaner.

    (brought over from last thread)

Good west coast morning Chipsticks and TOD family.
Oh what a night I had last night!
LGBT for Obama knows how to put on a benefit for our beloved President.
The place was packed! My neck is sore from turning to see this celebrity or that one!
And then there was President Barack Obama โ€“ OH MY!
I was at a table where I had a direct unobstructed view to where he was speaking on the stage! Hearing his voice live and being that close, I kept weaving from reality to disbelief. During the time he was speaking and afterwards, there were so many people crying and with tears in their eyes, that I got choked up myself. His words resonate with you whether you are straight (which I am), gay, black (which I am), white, and everyone across the spectrum!

One phrase that really brought the house down: โ€œIf anyone asks why you are still involved, you tell them that you STILL HAVE HOPE, YOU STILL BELIEVE IN CHANGE!โ€

Ellen was the opening and she was wonderful ! Then she and her mother passed right by my table on their way out the door. I got to quickly say โ€œlove youโ€ to Ellen, and she said thank you, then after the event was over, I saw her mother in the lobby and went up to her and I said, โ€œexcuse me, youโ€™re Ellenโ€™s mother arenโ€™t you and she turned smiled and said โ€œyes, Iโ€™m Ellenโ€™s motherโ€ and I said I recognize you from her show, she said โ€œthank youโ€. Cher walked past my table and at one point, she paused and let us take her picture! Her son Chaz was with her too. The Star Trek guy, George Takadi (sp) was at a table across from me. He shook my hand. And then there was Jesse Tyler Ferguson. I saw him when I first entered the lobby. I told him how much I love him and his wonderful show. Then he waved at me as he was going past my table, finally, I saw him outside after the event and I got up the nerve to ask if he would take a picture with me and he did!

I have so many pictures of my President, that I know many are of the same pose, but I donโ€™t care! I had a memorable night.

    BAM! http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/06/07/12104923-case-closed-the-stimulus-worked?lite

Douglas Elmendorf, the director of the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, reminded Congress of this inconvenient truth yesterday.

Did the stimulus work? Certainly not according to Republicans, who regularly blast President Obama’s “failed” economic policies on the campaign trail. GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has called the $787 billion package of temporary tax cuts and spending hikes “the largest one-time careless expenditure of government money in American history.”

But on Wednesday, under questioning from skeptical Republicans, the director of the nonpartisan (and widely respected) Congressional Budget Office was emphatic about the value of the 2009 stimulus. And, he said, the vast majority of economists agree.

In a survey conducted by the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, 80 percent of economic experts agreed that, because of the stimulus, the U.S. unemployment rate was lower at the end of 2010 than it would have been otherwise.

WHAT A TRIO: A USED CAR SALESMAN, A CARNIVAL BARKER AND A WARMONGER

Bolton celebrates diplomatic ‘failure’ with Iran

    By Steve Benen

    ————————————-

Time’s Joe Klein, generally a mild-mannered political observer, described Bolton yesterday as a “nutjob,” and characterized his op-ed as “a cut below his usual tripe.”
    .
    .
The idea that Mitt Romney would associate himself with this thoughtless goofball is as feckless as his embrace of Donald Trump, and considerably more dangerous. Romney has taken flak, rightly, from Republican realists for his overly aggressive, ill-informed foreign policy statements. He is making a fool of himself on the issues most central to the commander-in-chief function of the presidency. He needs to ditch John Bolton, and fast.

That last part is of particular interest. Bolton demanding a U.S. invasion of Iran is about as predictable as the sunrise. The fact, however, that this shameless warmonger has the ear of the Republicans’ presidential nominee makes his warmongering much harder to dismiss.

MUST,MUST,MUST,MUST MUST!!! I posted this video late last night, and Smartypants (have I said how much I adore Smartypants?) posted this on her site this morning. Bring the kleenex BOX. This is the perfect metaphor for the America that President Obama speaks of daily. THIS is who we are! I hope that this gets sent out far and wide, as a testament to the goodness that America shares, and to the vision that the President wants us to remember and return to.

Yeah! I don’t want a psychopath anywhere near the Office of the President of the United States! When I heard this story, I related it to one we just heard in our city – that a man has been spotted trying to approach some children in one of our neighborhood pools (which have just opened due to school being out) – using a dog on a leash and asking them “do you want to play with my dog?” Adults who have gotten close to his vehicle spotted a dog crate and a box of children’s toys in the back seat. Scary, sick stuff. But, his license plate number has been turned over to the police, so he probably has been stopped before anything happened. But still, ….. the parents are wary and extra vigilant as the whole city should be. I know the stories are not the same … but the behaviors have the same sinister overtones to me.

Here is a great story I caught on Facebook today. Keep reading till the end…

    “Woman In Hot Air Balloon

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, “Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am.”

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, “You’re in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.

She rolled her eyes and said, “You must be an Obama Democrat.”

“I am,” replied the man. “How did you know?”

“Well,” answered the balloonist, “everything you told me is technically correct. But I have no idea what to do with your information, and I’m still lost. Frankly, you’ve not been much help to me.”

The man smiled and responded, “You must be a Republican.”

“I am,” replied the balloonist. “How did you know?”

“Well,” said the man, “you don’t know where you are — or where you are going. You’ve risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air.
You made a promise you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem.

You’re in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but somehow, now it’s my fault.””

My question is what does the leader of Estonia know? He’s the leader of a country that has the population of a large LA suburb. And it is in rapid decline. Either they’re killing off all the old people or nobody wants to live there.

Andrea Mitchell is the most unlikable of all msnbc hosts, ‘cept Dylan Ratgan. She is always all doom and gloom re. Obama, looks kinda smug about it, always talks about the president in a cynical, sarcastic way. She and Chris Cilizza were just “lamenting” Obama’s very bad week and just finished touting Willard’s big fundraising number, saying it was proof that lots of regular folks are feeling the mittmentum. All one-sided and nauseating. I don’t know if she is still bitter about Hillary or that Obama hasn’t gone to Israel or if she truly adores Willard or if she has a sliver in her butt, but she is a real piece of work.

Me thinks, since Comcast has taken over MSNBainC, it is now a center right outfit.
Many of their far right Pundits and Anchors, outweighs the nightly Center Left Anchors.

” lots of regular people ”

She must do the same math as her husband……64 of the 76 million came from large donors.

      1/6th came from small donors…..

Afternoon TODsters!!!! great getting up day once again Os! No morning shows again for me this morning. However, I guess I’ll be cutting out afternoon shows as well. Poor SOS Clinton, she’s doing such a great job in her current position, but folks are determined to overshadow that with trying to prompt her to run in 2016.

Political take for today: Still can’t find any official blog site for the RNC or the Robme’s campaign where folks can comment. What are they afraid of? Their own base?

In new attack, Romney ‘just making stuff up’

    ————————-

We know precisely why Romney makes claims like these. With Democrats arguing that Republicans are perhaps holding back the economy on purpose, Romney suddenly sees value in arguing, in effect, “No, no, it’s Obama who slowed the recovery on purpose.” The public isn’t sure who to believe, and before long, the “sabotage” picture becomes muddled, with each side leveling similar claims. The accuracy (or lack thereof) gets lost.

But we also know that Romney’s lying.

Asked about the claims, Schieber himself explained this morning, “That is false, in a variety of ways. I don’t believe that it’s substantively true.”

Jon Chait added that Romney is “just making stuff up.”

I’m not believing a lot of these polls that put Mitt ahead in any area. Another poll was that the military preferred Mitt over our Prez. Are they just making things up also.

I live in Michigan and I’m wondering too? What is all this edge stuff, either you are leading or you’re not.

Robney just said, the President has failed and he that the Government should be providing for People who can’t provide for themselves.
    OMG!
