It is by far one of the most memorable photos in history of PBO in the Oval office where a child, an african american child can see someone just like him holding the highest office in the land. Whenever an adult says to an african american child, “you can grow up to be whatever you want, even president”, it is no longer just words but a distinct possibility.

How come things that are illegal for other people are okay for Romney. Isn’t impersonating an officer against the law? Not to mention weird? There is s something not right about his man, which is why he always seems “off” to me. I haven’t agreed with any Republican presidential contenders in my time, but they have all seemed more or less human. Romney seems creepy.

I’m bringing this post over from a previous thread – I guess I caught the tail end of it – because it is really good and really needs to be read and spread around. The Peoples View – Failures From Occupy to Wisconsin: An Inconvenient Truth for the Purist Left

    http://www.thepeoplesview.net/

“The beating that the Left took last night in Wisconsin can’t be sugar-coated. Scott Walker survived his recall election by a good seven point margin, and all but one of the other Republicans did as well.

From the perspective of the Left media (though I find it a little amusing to see the same Left media outlets that took money from Scott Walker complaining about this), the blame for the loss is being put squarely on the shoulder of Citizens United and Walker’s 8-to-1 money advantage, and there is no doubt that cash coming through the Citizens-United-opened the floodgates is drowning our democracy. Nonetheless, hanging it all on Citizens United ignores a crucial cause for this defacing loss: the ideologue Left themselves…”

This is an extremely righteous, well thought out, and powerfully expressed rant about the responsibility of the Professional Purity Left for the WI vote. The comments are great too.

Hi TOD family…This will be my last word on Wisconsin, they I will let it go.
Yes the money that was poured into that state to save Walker was huge, but Wisconsin voters knew that money was coming in from pepole like the Koch brothers, they knew what Walker had done and what his plans are….they still voted for him. My question to anyone out there from Wiscosin…WHY? Perhaps they are happy with Walker, they voted for him again. The money issue makes me sick. Everytime I get a donation request from OFA I put in 15-25 dollars and, like I told my husband last night…I need that money to buy me new shoes, but I want so much to help. Finally last night I couldn’t take it…I cried. My puny contributions are nothing compared to these billionaires, and what about all the mega rich Obama supporters? We that can afford the least contribute so much …not only in money but in our time. I guess I’m just feeling down…knowing I’m just a tiny ant.

      June 6, 2012 at 11:52 pm

Carla, you are not a tiny ant, though I am sure understand how, after last night, you feel that way. Always remember, President Obama built his entire 2008 campaign on people like us, who contributed small amounts regularly, and were proud to do so. I will continue to contribute until election day, or I reach my maximum allowable. I always remember the story in the gospels of Jesus and the widow with the penny. He said, she has given more than all these (pointing to the wealthy men around her) I believe that, and I believe our money goes farther and better than Koch brothers’ type money.
I am glad for the big time donors, we need them desperately, since elections have become a money game, thanks to Citizens United. I’m praying that more of them will step up to counteract the PACS of the far right.
Also, it’s people like us who register, knock on doors, canvass…..put the shoe leather into the process.
I heard on Ed Schultz tonight, from John Nichols, that Walker’s side blasted Wisconsin with ads for eight months before the Democrats even had a candidate, and there was not enough time to counteract. When you consider the long time of ads, the amount of money spent, Walker didn’t get a very good return on his money, from the figures.
Keep your head up. We’ve all had our cry, and now we will redouble our efforts!

      • 53 theo67
        June 7, 2012 at 12:26 am

I heard someone say today that all those millions spent on Walker had the effact of bringing him back to his starting point. Certainly not a good return on investment.

        June 7, 2012 at 7:44 am

I so agree, carolyn, and you stated it beautifully. Every little contribution we make is important because it comes with love and the determination to help our president. As Bobfr has many times stated so eloquently, this is a battle of love vs hate and I believe love is stronger. Sometimes the sheer depth of dark ugliness emanating from people like the Koch Brothers seems overwhelming. But the darkness will not overcome the light and we are the light.

$1 a day keeps Mitt Away. If all eligible FB followers and tweeps following @BarackObama contributed $1 day until election that would be more than $2 billion. If we could make this viral and get people contributing their $15-25 this would make a huge difference. If you contribute even a small amount you are more invested in the pain, GOTV etc.

I have been reading for the past 15 minutes about that Romney’s story…impersonating a cop….when something creeps me out, I need to know all the details

This comment in a blog really answer anyone who think it was just ”pranks”

”….but pranks like that are done when you are with a group of friends. But going out on your own, and using the uniform to pull drivers over is just plain creepy. ”

    Exactly, that’s the creepy part….on his own….with no witnesses…….yickes….

And I found this as well, I’m shaking my head at this point, it’s just too weird…

In 2008, during Mitt Romney’s campaign, his director of operations, Jay Garrity, resigned after several allegations that he unduly claimed to be a police officer.

Not only has Garrity claimed to be an officer of the law, but in 2004, he was cited by Boston’s Finest for carrying police equipment – including flashing lights, which are restricted to law enforcement vehicles only – in his Crown Victoria sedan

This, however, was not isolated to one Romney member staff exclusively. Mark Glanville and William Ritter, had been cited as using fake badges, provided by Garrity. They used these badges to command reporters and to avoid paying highway tolls which are mandatory for any citizen to pay.

    June 6, 2012 at 11:42 pm

Think you’re correct on that LL. I found the RM report tonight very disturbing on a number of levels. Many years ago I was a prosecutor and know the struggles that the police face on a daily basis. While there always seem to be a few bad apples everywhere for the most part officers go to work every day willing to put their lives on the line. To think that this idiot used the uniform as a prank is beyond disgusting. His deferments from the draft and then his lies about them are also deeply troubling. For those of us who lived through those times there were so many emotional conflicts. On the one hand, I demonstrated against that war while at the same time watching my boyfriend be drafted, not seek a deferment and go on to fight. He came back to a US that treated our soldiers terribly and had emotional scars from that war that lasted for years. So here’s Romney demonstrating FOR the war but being unwilling to serve, and then saying in 2007 he that he longed to be a part of it? He is so lacking in any core values or beliefs it is truly mind boggling.

One of the things that will forever stand out to me is the consistency in Barack Obama. During the 2008 campaign, an audio tape surfaced of a radio interview he did nearly 20 years before when Dreams was first published. With a few minor differences, he sounded the identical themes that he campaigned on in 2008. It totally blew my mind that there was such a core of strength, values and beliefs that were so constant throughout his life. While the realities of the Oval office have changed him in some ways, you KNOW that he believes in his values through and through. And if they haven’t changed until now in his life, you know they will not for the remainder. For me, and I would think for most voters, this MATTERS more than any one political position or issue. We know who this man is, unlike his opponent. I’m beginning to wonder if even Ann has a clue who she is married to!

Lord, let them continue to be an even bigger blessing over the next 5 years. Lord, thank You for protecting these precious ones. Thank You for guarding their minds, hearts, souls, spirits and bodies. Give them the strength and ability to do what YOU have called them to do. Thank you for giving Our Beloved President continual wisdom, courage, thoughtfulness and finances to continue on his mission. Shower them with Your Powerful Love. Keep Your strong arms around them always. Lord love also the Joe Biden family as they are also a very important part of this team. Surround both families with decent and brave and kind people who have their backs. Let the American public and the world continue to know who we have in office and how beneficial it is for all. Lastly, Lord thank You for giving them the strong and powerful victory on November 6, 2012 and be a strong enemy to their enemies and adversary to their adversaries. I hope she actually gets to meet him, and that he knows she’s been fighting pretty hard for him even through the hard times when the emoprogs (including those two on her show) were rabidly anti-President Obama. Thanks for the warning….now I am crying but a good cry. Young Matt is such a fighter, he wasn’t gonna give up and those kids cheering him on gave him the strength to cross the finish line. These kids can teach many adults on the right about compassion.

Hi, Bob:) I heard that interview tonight, and even more than the bowing…his mother said something that touched me…she said something like” The President didn’t treat him like a little child, but as an equal” That just about got the water works going for me. That was SUCH a powerful statement.

    Morning shows update:

Morning Joe, Dan Senor, and Mark Halperin went on a 15 minute rant that The New York Times has an article about Willard’s house in La Jolla, saying there would never be such an article about a Democrat. It is in the “Home and Garden” section.

Bill Press is suprised that the HP has a negative article on PBO.

And this is the discussion we wake up to on teevee.

Oh, they’ve followed it. They just choose to engage in lies, deceit and gutter journalism. They’d rather say something sensational and create something controversial than inform and educate the people. I would love to see a daily segment about a company who’s coming back from this mess and hiring people; a place that’s under construction; a school that’s moving FORWARD, etc. etc.

we need to continue point out this devastation from austerity policies to the general American public which may not be following global politics (or politics at all) because this is a real-life but sad experiment conservatives across the world are subjecting people to.

You need to stimulate jobs and by implication consumer income. from this consumer income comes consumer demand/purchases which leads to business sales and profits. businesses and households which have positive earnings can pay taxes. taxes paid by a thriving business and household can help with the revenue side of a simple and complicated government balance sheet. budget cutting alone is not enough

“Survey: Jobs numbers not that bad”
Only 42% thought the May jobs numbers was somewhat or very negative. Despite the narrative that the media and GOP were trying to lay out that the numbers were devastating, catastrophic, etc most Americans didn’t feel that way. Could suggest that the public knows that a couple of months of lower job growth does not signal the end of the world and certainly not the end of PBOs path to reelection.

A coalition of environmental groups is preparing to launch television ads in New Mexico as the state gears up for an open-seat Senate race, two strategists monitoring the campaign tell me.

The sources say five organizations are banding together to run ads spanning nearly two full months: starting on June 16 and running until Aug. 4. One source pegged the cost of the flight at just over $850,000. Another suggested it could climb closer to a million dollars when all the buying is done.

The groups involved, the sources said, are the League of Conservation Voters, the Sierra Club, Defenders of Wildlife, the National Wildlife Federation and the Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund. Spokespeople for LCV and the Sierra Club declined to confirm the details of any plans that might be in the works.

“We’ll have something to announce soon. Stay tuned,” said Mike Palamuso, LCV’s vice president for communications.

President Obama concluded a star-studded evening of fundraising in Los Angeles Wednesday, appearing with singer Cher, actresses Ellen DeGeneres and Julia Roberts, and “Glee” stars Jane Lynch and Darrin Criss, among others.

In L.A. for two fundraisers (one for LGBT activists), Obama lauded the progress the country has made on gay rights — telling a story about a straight Marine who thanked him for ending the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy of the U.S. military.

“I could not be prouder of the work that we’ve done on behalf of the LGBT community,” said Obama in front of a crowd of about 600 at the Beverly Wilshire hotel.

Criss and DeGeneres introduced Obama, and the president was joined by L.A. mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, California Attorney General Kamala Harris, Cher, actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson of Modern Family and others.

At a second, smaller fundraiser at the home of Fox’s “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy, Obama joked that he would not be breaking into song.

He was joined at that fundraiser by Witherspoon Banana Republic/Gap Inc. president Jack Calhoun, Glee actress Jane Lynch, and HBO executive Michael Lombardo.

“The key in 2012 is going to be how badly do we want it. Are we willing to fight for that vision with even greater determination than we did in 2008,” Obama told supporters, who each pay $25,000 a ticket.

Obama wraps up his fundraising tour with a fundraising breakfast in L.A. on Thursday — a two day swing that is expected to bring in at least $5.3 million for his reelection bid.

HEADLINE: Young and Black Voters Turn Out in Wisconsin Despite Suppression Efforts

// It may not feel like there’s anything positive to make out of the unsuccessful bid to recall Gov. Scott Walker in yesterday’s Wisconsin elections, but there were hints of optimism. Young voters and African-American voters did more than their part to show up, according to exit polls and early reports, despite significant efforts to confuse and challenge them from groups that profess to be fighting voter fraud.

In Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett’s seven-point loss to Walker, voters aged 18-29 increased their slice of the electorate from 15 percent in 2010 to 16 percent yesterday. Black voters came out mob-deep. John Nichols, who’s been covering Wisconsin inside-out for The Nation, reported, “Turnout was up dramatically, so much so that on election day election clerks had to be shifted to predominantly African-American wards.”

This was mainly true in Racine and Milwaukee, where young people and people of color have seen enough murder and lack of educational and economic opportunity to drive them to the polls, recall or not. //

Wow! have I missed a lot over the last week and a half! Just spent the last few hours catching up and already my head is spinning. Been in hospital for an op and missed being here and catching up. I chatted to a lady in the bed near mine about PBO (was listening to the audio of Dreams From My Father). She has an aunt in the States who, when PBO was elected was really against him but now realizes that he is the best president of her lifetime and intends to vote for him this year. Didn’t ask what state she was from but it was good to hear.

Hope you guys are all ok, I probably wont be around too much in the next few days as I need to sleep but will ALWAYS support this wonderful man. Will be back when I can.

    Love you all.
