HEADLINE: Obama, Romney To Star at Country Music Awards

// President Obama and Mitt Romney are going country, taping videos for a “comedic opening segment” at tonight’s CMT Music Awards.
The president and the presumptive GOP nominee are both “in on the joke,” according to CMT President Brian Philips. “They’re each great sports.” In addition to providing some comic relief from the campaign trail, the cameos offer the candidates an opportunity to appeal to heartland voters and country music fans. //

True, but Romney is a fake teabagger. He is simply a puppet for the extreme right wing and he is as stiff as a board. I was raised on country music; it may be for rednecks, but it is real. I really can’t see Romney being comfortable in this milieu. However, when it comes to our President … well, he’s the real deal and look at his taste in music! He genuinely seems to enjoy each of the performances he and Michelle have hosted at the White House regardless of the genre of music, and he can sing, and well … I think he’d be right at home in Nashville or Texas with Reba and Willie, or, as we know, in Jersey with the Boss!

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is booking another $19 million in airtime in 24 districts across the country, bringing to more than $46 million the amount the committee has reserved after Labor Day.

The reservation — which can be canceled or adjusted closer to the election — gives House Democrats assured access to broadcast slots at cheaper rates, guarding against the prospect that the DCCC and its GOP counterpart could be eclipsed in the fall by super-PACs and the pricey presidential race.

46 million is very impressive for our Team. That is good news!

Shell Game! [on Corbett & Shell Oil]

“But Gov. Corbett apparently doesn’t think the hard-earned cash you fork over every time you pull into a Shell station is enough.

He wants to give them your tax dollars, too – perhaps as much as about $1.7 billion over the next 25 years.

It would actually be too kind to call Corbett’s corporate-welfare scheme involving Shell’s planned ethane-cracking plant on Pennsylvania’s far western border a tax break – because the deal has already won state approval to avoid taxes, in a specially created Keystone Opportunity Zone. So this proposed new deal – which was being negotiated in secret until long-time Harrisburg journalist Pete DeCoursey broke the news Monday – is essentially just a straight-up cash giveaway to Big Oil.”

“Did I mention that this is the same Tom Corbett who wants struggling unemployed folks getting food stamps to prove they don’t have money stashed away, whose steep 2011 cuts to school funding deeply exacerbated an education crisis that’s risking everything from school plays in Upper Darby to the janitor who cleans your son’s classroom here in Philadelphia? I guess janitors didn’t realize the threshold to get Corbett’s attention is $31 billion.”

    Casual Observation
    by BooMan
Wed Jun 6th, 2012 at 03:44:42 PM EST

At some point, Matt Stoller lost his damn mind. I don’t know how you can spend long enough on the Harvard campus to earn a degree and still have such weird ideas about our elites. Peggy Noonan writes less meandering columns than Stoller. He wants us all to know that one man, Barack Obama, has ruined the institutions of the American left. To prove this, he uses a chart that covers 65 years of history, 40 0f which are relevant. As further proof that Obama is the devil, he blames Wisconsin Democrats for doing everything wrong. Then, after offering no proof and no explanation for why Obama is at fault, he proceeds to blame everyone else:

But it’s not complete to say this is just Obama’s doing. Obama has done everything he’s done with the support of labor leaders, Democratic supportive groups like Moveon, foundations, liberal pundits, African-American church networks, feminist groups, LGBT groups, and technology interests. Any of these could have stopped him by withdrawing support and overtly attacking him, but only the LBGT community fought for their rights. This American labor bureaucracy, which simply does not strike and therefore has no leverage against capital, operates largely as a group of fragmented business unionists.

Yes, everyone of the left is doing it wrong because they haven’t , like Matt Stoller, taken leave of their senses and attacked the most brilliant and decent and politically talented president we’ve had in decades.

He concludes with some nonsense about interfering with the flow of commerce, which sounds a little Unibomberish. Maybe Stoller would be happier as a Somali pirate.

Oh, but we know how the president deals with those folks.

Townhouse must be a ghost town these days. What a freak show.

Matt Stoller can apply for al Qaeda’s #2 position. I heard a vacancy has opened up and it’s relatively hard to fill at this point. Stoller should forward his resume. He’d be a good fit.

Obamas invited to June 16 Kenwood-Hyde Park wedding of Valerie Jarrett’s daughter

It could become the backyard wedding of the year!

It’s very hush-hush, but Sneed hears President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama have been invited to the June 16 Kenwood/Hyde Park backyard wedding of attorney Laura Jarrett, daughter of Obama’s best friend/senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett.

A contingent from the president’s Cabinet including Attorney General Eric Holder and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk, as well as Chicago attorney Allison Davis and Valerie’s close friend Susan Sher — Michelle Obama’s former chief of staff — also made the invited list.

“It could be the wedding of the year — considering how many powerful people may attend,” said a top Obama insider.

The wedding, which is scheduled to take place in the large backyard of Jarrett’s family home — is located near the Obama compound in Kenwood.

It’s a hop, skip and a jump from President Obama’s close buddy Marty Nesbitt. Barack pal Eric Whitaker will also be in attendance.

“It’s like a gathering of African-American royalty,” said the source. “They are all close friends who care a great deal about each other. Valerie Jarrett was raised in the Kenwood house and her mother, Barbara, still lives there.

“For the president and first lady not to come, it would have to be a security issue at the last moment.”

A call to Laura Jarrett’s finance, Tony Balkissoon — an attorney with the Sidley Austin law firm — netted the following polite response: “I’m not going to answer any questions, but thanks so much.”

The couple met while attending Harvard Law School and celebrated their engagement at the Paris Club.

It has been our family policy not to shop at WalMart for at least ten years. We live right next to Arkansas, and know about their policies and their family. We are just one family, but if we on this blog can band together and not shop at WalMart, I know for many that’s difficult, we can grow and begin to make a difference. They have killed more American manufacturing jobs and small Main Street businesses than any other corporation, I think. Look at small towns that used to be thriving, and what do you see? Empty stores, or “antique” malls which bring no new business. I detest WalMart.

I too am opposed to Walmart and do not shop there. I also lecture my family members about why I do not shop there. I do like an employee owned store here in Oregon with many branches called BiMart. I also like JCPenney’s a lot when they took their ads away from Limbaugh and would not succumb to ousting Ellen as their ad representative when a group of religious ladies were threatening to boycott their stores.

I am really bothered by the huge money that is pouring into our politics and will be used by the boatloads in the coming months to influence the election. I read that Barrett went from a disapproval of 17 to 37 by the election yesterday, voters obviously influenced by the non stop Koch ads. People are influenced by the ads—–see corps. and all the money they spend to influence you to buy their products, and it works! We buy them. I just worry about this. And we all know where big money didn’t work, but not every state is true blue Ca. or Ct.—-where it didn’t work. Other states would be more vulnerable. Someone mentioned Oprah the other day. I wonder if she has donated. She has the rare ability—–she’s a billionaire—–to donate big sums to help to keep PBO’s funds competitive. And what better use than saving your country. Also—-I know many in the entertainment industry have given, but they need to give some more, and more need to be involved. To whom much is given….etc. I agree with LL above—-rich Dems need to piss or get off the pot. This is for all the marbles—–we can no longer afford to punt and fool around. Too critical.

      • 130 Bill
        June 6, 2012 at 6:15 pm

  33. 134 Tally
    June 6, 2012 at 5:43 pm

ok. So…… ONE race in WI goes to a DEM, and he wins by only 779 votes, literally 1%.

Why is there ZERO whispering of a recount? Shouldn’t there be? Shouldn’t something this close trigger an automatic recount?

The reason it seems weird to me is because it’s COMPLETELY out of character for the GOP.

So many things about yesterday (and the last month leading up to it) just don’t sit right. The weird polls, the weird media coverage, the record turnout, yet 37% of union households vote against their own best interest? THAT last one is what I find the hardest to accept.

I have FOREVER distrusted electronic voting and counting, because I’ve worked with computers, and testing software for so long, I KNOW how EASY it is to hack voting machines. These people even proved that you can do it remotely, with no need to write it into the original software:
http://www.salon.com/2011/09/27/votinghack/ and the easiest way to hack is to flip/change numbers on the server where the totals are stored. And I KNOW these people aren’t working on OSX, they’re all working on PCs which most bored 7-year olds can get around to learning.

I don’t trust the GOP AT ALL. As I’ve said before, yes, the voter suppression is real, but it’s the SHINY to distract from what’s really going on.

WI was a dress rehearsal for what the GOP plan to do nationwide in November. Make no mistake.

So, why no recount? Because a recount doesn’t necessarily mean a hand count? A recount might turn up something else having to do with the machines? What?

Am I the only one who feels like even the exit polls don’t make a lot of sense considering the turnout?

Who was running the exit polls, and what is the percentage of e-voting precincts in WI? Anyone know the answer to either of those questions?

I am certain that more than 779 democrats left lines all over the state after MSNBC called the race. When the race was called, there were all kinds of tweets and twitpics of people actually still standing in line. They called it to steal it because they knew it would be close. I said it last night as soon as it happened. They stole it. Period.

I agree tally and I truly believe that the MSM memes of Koch brothers and “Citizens United” are red herrings for some malignancies in those diebold electronic voting machines. There were many, many unsettling discrepancies surrounding that election – not just in the result, exit polls, etc but in the MSM’s behavior for the entire day yesterday.

And if anyone believes that someone who is highly motivated to actually go the polls and vote FOR anti-union Scott Walker would also vote for pro-union PBO in November – I have a bridge to sell them. The fact that the media focuses almost to a feverish degree on the one exit poll item that shows that 60% of voters disagreed with recall elections, makes me even more suspicious of it. That’s the explanation that the GOPmedia has sold to the public – it sounds like a nice tidy neat explanation and it wards off any suspicion because it’s “data.”

itgurl I think the cheating occurred even before MSNBC called the election. Those electronic machines need to be under serious scrutiny – in fact I advocate for complete eradication of electronic voting machines in the general election. Paper ballots only – with cameras all around before, during and after voting/counting, AND DEM and GOP counters, with DOJ officials PRESENT at time of counting.

The part is, the DEMs won’t run Barrett again because most people were luke warm on him anyway and he conceded way too soon. I hope they have a good candidate by 2014. I think the Lt.
