Hidee Os!! Wanted to share this:

So today the grandson and I were โ€˜playingโ€™ school and he was very excited about the whole thing. He said that before we get started we had to say the President Orack Obama first.

    Iโ€™m like, โ€˜whatโ€™s the Barack Obama?โ€™

He says, you know, โ€˜the Orack Obama that we say in school first thing!โ€™

    I said, โ€˜well Iโ€™m not sure what you mean.โ€™

Heโ€™s like, โ€˜I canโ€™t think of it , but we have to say it first, the President Orack Obama!โ€™.

So he gets majorly frustrated and says, โ€˜didnโ€™t you go to school, didnโ€™t you say the Orack Obamaโ€ฆ.didnโ€™t you stand up with your hand on your heart and say the Orack Obama!?!โ€

It dawns on me and I start with, โ€œI pledge allegianceโ€ฆ.โ€

He breaks out into this huge smile, and saysโ€ฆ.โ€™Yes, thatโ€™s it, thatโ€™s the Orack Obama, we say it every morning in school!โ€™

Poor kid, I think Iโ€™ve indoctrinated him.

Maybe Ezra Klein should read what EJ Dionne said about Republicans:

I think the evidence shows that when inequality gets out of hand (see 1929 and now), itโ€™s a drag on the whole economy. Forgive me for noting that conservatives seem to believe that the rich will work harder if we give them more, and the poor will work harder if we give them less.

”What’s going on with TPM? Is the site going the way of Huffington Post with all these positive articles about Republicans? Huffington Post did the same thing, and shortly after that sold out to corporate control. ”

”Wonder how much money TPM is getting from the Koch Bros not to trash the Republicans?”

What ho TOD peeps. Caught the tail end of Randi Rhodes’ show today as she was reading from this article on her show. It literally took my breath away. Another state under the death grip of Republican governorship, profiting from the privatization and dumbing down of our children’s education in the process. Although not a school teacher myself, I have several generations of public school teachers and academia in my family and I have no words to express the anger I’m feeling right now about this Republican’s educational “delivery system”. Delivery system??!!? WTF?. I’m calling Department of Education tomorrow. I’m assuming Arne Duncan has a twitter account; I may have to jump on the Twitter bandwagon to send him a message.

Louisiana’s bold bid to privatize schools

Starting this fall, thousands of poor and middle-class kids will get vouchers covering the full cost of tuition at more than 120 private schools across Louisiana, including small, Bible-based church schools.

The following year, students of any income will be eligible for mini-vouchers that they can use to pay a range of private-sector vendors for classes and apprenticeships not offered in traditional public schools. The money can go to industry trade groups, businesses, online schools and tutors, among others.

Every time a student receives a voucher of either type, his local public school will lose a chunk of state funding.

“We are changing the way we deliver education,” said Governor Bobby Jindal, a Republican who muscled the plan through the legislature this spring over fierce objections from Democrats and teachers unions. “We are letting parents decide what’s best for their children, not government.”

….. The school willing to accept the most voucher students — 314 — is New Living Word in Ruston, which has a top-ranked basketball team but no library. Students spend most of the day watching TVs in bare-bones classrooms. Each lesson consists of an instructional DVD that intersperses Biblical verses with subjects such chemistry or composition.

The Upperroom Bible Church Academy in New Orleans, a bunker-like building with no windows or playground, also has plenty of slots open. It seeks to bring in 214 voucher students, worth up to $1.8 million in state funding.

At Eternity Christian Academy in Westlake, pastor-turned-principal Marie Carrier hopes to secure extra space to enroll 135 voucher students, though she now has room for just a few dozen. Her first- through eighth-grade students sit in cubicles for much of the day and move at their own pace through Christian workbooks, such as a beginning science text that explains “what God made” on each of the six days of creation. They are not exposed to the theory of evolution.

“We try to stay away from all those things that might confuse our children,” Carrier said.

Other schools approved for state-funded vouchers use social studies texts warning that liberals threaten global prosperity; Bible-based math books that don’t cover modern concepts such as set theory; and biology texts built around refuting evolution.

      June 4, 2012 at 9:35 pm

I heard this on Randi, too, purpleshoes. There’s a local blog that I send info to often, and this one got sent. This is the plan by ALL Republicans, not just ones in Louisiana….no arts, no library, no teachers(DVD’S work fine…and that gives them more $$$, they won’t have to pay a teacher’s salary!) No windows, no science that is based in fact, and a whole LOT of BIBLE VERSES. Not acceptable. WTF IS a bible based math book, anyway?? I may just have to call the Dept of Education myself!!!! Thanks for posting here…it’s terrifying, isn’t it?

    • June 4, 2012 at 10:31 pm

This is a thing I do NOT understand. Private Schools, any worth their salt do NOT admit every student. They are tested and evaluated before admission is granted. They do not want to set any child up for failure. This was the case at the school where my oldest son went. If a child is not ready to learn at an accelerated pace they are not admitted.

No private school is required to take all students.

Indeed! I am also reminded of slave owners who loved their slaves so much but were so angry if those same slaves dared to seek their freedom by running away or rebelling. Trump loves the blacks he gets to give orders to. He just can’t stand blacks who are above him in status. In my opinion, the term racist gives people like Trump an out because racists are supposed to be people who hate races that are not their own. Trump is a white supremacist. We know the real deal!

In the 2008 Lowy Institute Poll, Australians expressed a strong preference for then-US presidential candidate Barack Obama (73%) over his then-rival John McCain (16%). Since then Obamamania has only increased. Asked โ€˜which candidate would you prefer to see become President of the United Statesโ€™, Australians choose President Obama over his Republican rival Mitt Romney by an 8 to 1 ratio (80% compared with 9%). Women are slightly more favourable towards Obama than men (85% compared with 74%). http://www.lowyinstitute.org/publications/lowy-institute-poll-2012-public-opinion-and-foreign-policy

If they could vote in this yearโ€™s American presidential election, two third of Canadians (65%) and half of Britons (51%) would cast a ballot for Obama. Support for Republican Party contender Mitt Romney in both countries is in single digits.

Mitt Romney struggles to differentiate his foreign policy from the president’s

The Republican presidential nominee has had sharp criticism for Obama’s approach โ€” but has said little about what he would do differently.

Mitt Romney’s foreign policy argument against a second term for President Obama has been sharp: He says his Democratic rival has made the U.S. less safe by failing to lead on the world stage.

Romney has roughed up Obama with a hawkish tone โ€” at times bordering on belligerent. Yet for all his criticisms of the president, it has been difficult to tell exactly what Romney would do differently.

I’m not sure about this angle of analysis. Romney is pro-war, has expressed “regret” that the troops were brought home from Iraq and the war ended, is having a hissy fit over the publishing of the end date for the war in Afghanistan, is crying over defense cuts and claiming that the only thing that will make the US safe(r) is to have even much more defense spending than the rest of the Western world combined. Romney continues to lie about some imagined “apology tour”, he thinks Russia is public enemy #1, he’s sponsored by some rich billionaire who regrets fighting in the American uniform, and wishes he could have fought in an Israeli uniform instead.

Romney’s foreign policy can’t be any further from President Obama’s foreign policy.

I know I already said good night and was well on my way to bed when I happened to overhear an ABC Nightline segment – in which Terry Moran basically attacked Obama’s campaign as being negative towards Mitt Romney, and as being “tone deaf” because he used celebrities in his fundraisers, while Mr. Moron insisted on playing nice with Mitt, saying that his “favorability numbers are rising” despite Obama’s negative ads, and giving his association with Trump and other hard core racists a damn free pass. Moran is upset that PBO is used Sarah Jessica Parker and Anna Wintour in his campaign ads, saying that the administration is “tone deaf” to use these celebrities in a bad economy.

Well excuse me Mr. MORON..Romney associates with a racist, misogynistic and xenophobic Multi-millionnaire like Donald Trump, and he’s not tone deaf?!?!? Mr. Moron also virtually ignored the latest data showing that 70% of Romneys ads have been negative compared to less than 30% of Obama’s ads, yet he chose to play one of Obama’s negative ads to demonstrate how “negative” the Obama campaign is.

I blasted ABC, Nightline and TerryMoran on Twitter. I don’t care what anyone says about ignoring the media. The media is waging an all out war against President Obama, and hence against the majority of ordinary citizens living in this country. I will go after them promptly and aggressively whenever I see them pushing any bullshit to try to steal this election for Romney. This is not 2000 or 2004. We will not allow the media to destroy this country’s only chance of getting back on track just because a few selfish, racist, unduly wealthy people in the Republican party and the GOPmedia don’t want to lose their Bush tax cuts and other unearned privileges. No way, no how.

I guess they had a June 1, 2012 startdate to go back to the strategy of constant bashing of PBO that they used prior to the 2010 midterm elections. They want to prop up Mitt and depress democratic turnout. Its up to supporters of our President to call this propaganda out for what it is. I think the people who post comments on this site provide a vital service in combating this propaganda. Very well done Hopefruit2! You are absolutely right. This is no time to play nice with the media. They are out to get the President and we must fight back. I wish people were as angry at the media as they were about Cory Booker, Ed Randell and Bill Clinton, all of whom support the president, though they may have been undisciplined in their speeches thus giving the media an excuse to attack the President. Again it’s the way the media used them that we should be focused on. The media has not done the same with Republican critics of Willard Romney.

Once again, I love your focused and principled attacks on the real enemies of the President. Personally, I no longer care about the MSM. Being nice to them will not change a damn thing. They’ve chosen to wage a war against President Obama, and all we can do, as supporters, is fight back. The media must know that it’s not only Republicans who view programs like Nightline. If Terry Moran is siding with Romney then supporters of President Obama, who view Nightline, have the absolute right to object. Actually, that’s how the right wingers operate. For me, I’ve chosen the weapon of boycott which probably is not as effective as your push back. It’s just that I can’t stand to listen to these idiot propagandists who pretend to be journalists. I will not sit there and listen to people who want to sell me products but are at the same time undermining my interests.

Get the heck out and vote WI. This thing shouldn’t even be close. It will take a tremendous turnout today to pull this off because after 14 months of recalls and protest by people furious with Scott Walker (it’s the Republicans that have the enthusiasm edge (I guess money, citizens united, can buy you love). Go figure?

Have a great productive O’Day everyone!

if reports from WI are correct then the recall vote may not be the last we hear about walker making bad headlines – he could well be doing time in the slammer.

I hope the Dems in WI go out and vote because this is really important in so many ways.

Ohio had one pushback vote against the union-busting rightwingers and the results were tremenduos for workers’ rights. I hope the trend continues

Donna, I don’t believe that enthusiasm edge crap. You can buy any poll results you want if you have Koch money to spend. Talk about a Republican enthusiasm edge is designed to demotivate Democratic voters. It’s all a game to GOP billionaires, but it’s real life to the rest of Wisconsin.

Amused and sympathetic at President Obama telling the crowd last night that he asked the Secret Service if he could put on a fake moustache and walk around Central Park. They said no.

He should have added a lincoln-esque beard to go with it. Then SS would have agreed. ๐Ÿ™‚
