Pamela, people like POTUS and FLOTUS have to have people around them they can really trust, and I believe Valerie is one because she’s friend with them both. And they can trust her. You can’t trust everybody when you’re in political world. Some people will smile in your face all the while stabbing you in the back. But their friends from Chicago are their friends.

Are the American people going to reward the Republican Party betrayal??

The latest jobs numbers are the worst in a year and Mitt Romney and the Republicans are cheering against the American worker for their own election prospects. Ed Schultz discusses the latest economic report and the GOP obstruction with Rebuild the Dream president Van Jones.

Lowell solar panel company he backed goes under

A Bay State solar panel developer that landed a state loan from Mitt Romney when he was Massachusetts governor has gone belly up — a day after the GOP presidential hopeful ripped President Obama’s green-energy investments.

Lowell-based Konarka Technologies announced late yesterday that it filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection and will cease operations, lay off its 85 workers and liquidate.

“Konarka has been unable to obtain additional financing, and given its current financial condition, it is unable to continue operations,” CEO Howard Berke said in a statement. “This is a tragedy for Konarka’s shareholders and employees and for the development of alternative energy in the United States.”
And on Thursday the GOP candidate was stumping outside the shuttered Solyndra solar-panel factory in California, blasting the Obama administration’s $535 million loan as a symbol of “crony capitalism.”

I did not know the President gave the author an interview for this book…..

I don’t like it when books about him come out and no one has given a interview to back them up.

    • June 2, 2012 at 2:25 pm

I was angry about the totally baseless speculation that Barack Obama Sr. may have “abused” the President’s mother. Zero factual or even rumor-driven point. Maranniss just put it in to drive the negative narrative further. Pure tabloidism.

In any case the rocky relationship between BO Sr. & Ruth Nidesand was not news. It is included in the President’s own memoir which he explained as the reason for his half-brother Mark’s bitterness towards their father. But Mark’s own recent revision of his bitter childhood in his book should tell us that Maranniss is simply peddling tabloid fodder for cash just like Jodi Kantor did.

These journalists all want to make a quick buck off PBO. That’s all it is, plus to satisfy their corporate overlord’s driving need to destroy PBO.

Not interested in the book, as I said the only book I want to read about the Obamas is when Barack and Michelle writes their book, other then that forget it.

Maranniss is simply peddling tabloid fodder for cash just like Jodi Kantor did — EXCELLENT AND WELL STATED! I would rather give my money to the OBAMA re-election campaign than those folks. Let the faux progressives and loony right wing purchase that book and make them rich.

            June 2, 2012 at 3:18 pm

the author said he sent a few brief paragraphs to PBO (mainly from ms cook) and that PBO agreed to an interview (it appeared to give his facts as he remembered them – like some kind of double-checking).

PBO definitely did not give the blessing to the whole book because he had no way of knowing its contents.

the other author who wrote about the President’s mother also got a chance to double-check “a few” facts with PBO in a brief interview. PBO did not authorize the whole book

Sadly, it is consumers like you that provide a steady cash market for the greedy, exploitative and the callous…but then turn around and wonder how and why our democracy and union has been so degraded…

This is no different than the many reality shows that now make up a huge swathe of American programming and the re-imagined mediocre, lazy, cheap and tawdry version of what Hollywood calls their craft…

Only difference is that the central figure in this tacky and unnecessary exercise to feed the American public’s voyeurism, is certainly not a willing participant and has not signed on…

If President Obama had signed on, this would be touted as an AUTHORIZED BIOGRAPHY – which it certainly is not…

The very limited access the author boasts of having had to the President is meant to persuade the unsuspecting that this book meets with President Obama’s approval…

Even though the President has not read the book and Mrs Obama has very publicly announced that she will not be reading the book…

People like David Maraniss and Jodi Kantor operate under the very diminished auspices of ‘biographer’ – (unauthorized), for yet another great pay day…

They rudely and aggressively prey on, blackmail and intrude upon public and private figures in such a manner that strips their subject of every last bit of privacy and dignity…

All at once exaggerating, trivializing and bastardizing ones personal life story, the memories and the present…

Nobody has the right to do this to another person…

This is not an authorized biography and the author has acknowledged that he was only granted the one interview with President Obama to avoid a repeat of a bruised David Maraniss ego gone overboard as was the case when David Maraniss was denied access to Bill Clinton when he wrote that biography then…

In other words, the much bandied about interview was not a seal of approval but instead a response to unspoken threats and strong-arming which the President wisely used instead to attempt to tell his version of the events he was questioned about and in doing so, minimize the potential distortion of accounts of events in his own life…

This forum also allowed the President the opportunity to try to assuage an overblown ego with a pen and an undeserved and a mostly unearned reputation as a credible and ethical writer…

The pen is indeed mightier than the sword and this potent power has been ceded and granted to far too many an undeserving persons who are now running wild and unchecked armed with pen, laptop and the title ‘author’ and ‘journalist’…destroying lives and reputations simply because they can…

Many an unscrupulous ‘journalistic’ type has been unleashed to create and control chaos in an otherwise civilized society in their sole quest for relevance, influence, power and money…no different from the overblown egos today on talk radio and television callously amassing, controlling and wielding unearned and undeserved influence and authority…

A vast majority of Americans now bow to the basest amongst us lest they be destroyed in acts of revenge through the medium they control…

Even so-called respectable ‘authors’ are no longer so… held to no real standard and so all we get is recycled gossip from 2nd and 3rd hand sources re-packaged as keen ‘insight’ on the subject of the book and sold as piercing and high intellectual work…

                  Par for the course…

It still boggles the mind what purpose a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th hand account of juiced up bits of President Obama’s early years in high school and university is meant to serve…

                  • June 3, 2012 at 8:52 am

Chi,…LOL I don’t know who the hell you are and certainly you don’t know me. So what is your point? stopping me from buying the book or attacking me for saying I am going to do so? My assumption is you assume I am some dumbass dummy wrapped up in Botland. Well. Not true. I like books and writing and stuff about Obama. I have purchased other Maraniss books and can’t wait to add this one.
So Chips my question is: are you going to BAN ME cuz I dared to state I wanna buy a book or what? AND Chi honey save your blah blah for the right. We are still on the same side.

                      Dear aamom,

Nobody is ‘attacking’ you or ‘trying to stop you from buying a book’…

Your earlier post made it clear you already bought the book and ‘like David Maraniss’…

But just as you made your case for purchasing the book, I made mine for why not to…

Everyone gets to take away what they want to from reading the varying opinions offered up by you, Annie, Zizi, Renegade, Linda etc…

And no aamom, ‘we’ are not on the same side…

I do not patronize greed-driven purveyors of gossip and intrusion…

Neither do I patronize, support or fund directly or indirectly, any effort that will in any way hurt, diminish or handicap this President and/or his family…

And that is exactly what this book by David Maraniss does…

The extensive excerpts released thus far make that clear…

I know that in the past he has talked about how he loved to walk in his neighboor and soak in the world around him. No doubt he is having fun.

President Obama Schools Republicans For Refusing to Pass Jobs Bill

    By: Sarah Jones

Coming in for the partisan kill against blatant Republican obstructionism to murder what’s left of our economy since they were last in power in hopes of regaining power, Obama pointed out, “Since then, Congress has only passed a few parts of that jobs bill, like a tax cut that’s allowing working Americans to keep more of your paycheck every week.” He continued, “And that’s important but Congress hasn’t acted on enough of the ideas in that bill that would make a difference and help create jobs right now.”

Pursing his lips in disapproval, he condemned the Republicans, “There is no excuse for that. Not when so many people are still looking for work.”

In typical Obama fashion, he ended on an encouraging note, “My message to Congress is let’s get to work.” I picture him patting John Boehner on the head and offering him ice cream if he’ll put down the golf club and the Whiskey and just stumble on into the House for a few minutes to press Yes on a few jobs bill items.

This is what Republicans can expect for their unpatriotic cheering yesterday to disappointing economic news.

Republicans, you’re on notice. Get to work. Do something for the American people.

The only hope for getting anything done in Congress is to get a new Congress. For that we need a huge party (re)building effort, a 50-state strategy, and dynamic candidates.

      • 63 Ladyhawke
        June 2, 2012 at 2:38 pm

Exactly PJ. When I see people around the world fighting and dying for the right to pick their leaders it is embarrassing to see such low voter turnout in the United States. The right to vote should be exercised, cherished and protected fiercely. It’s the most powerful tool we have to get the change we seek. I don’t know how anyone could listen to Congressman John Lewis and not be outraged at the Republican Party attempts to disenfranchise African Americans, Latinos, Students, Senors and the poor.

        By Congressman John Lewis

Voting rights are under attack in America. Quietly, gradually, state-by-state, the right to vote – a right that many people died to secure – is being taken away. The Brennan Center released a report that shows that voting law changes across the nation will make it significantly harder for more than 5 million voters to exercise their constitutional right to vote. This should not be happening.

Today, we should be making it easy, simple, and convenient to vote. Instead, legislatures around the nation are creating barriers and making it more difficult for citizens to vote. There is not just one law, but many types of laws that are disenfranchising millions of voters: voter photo identification laws, proof of citizenship laws, barriers to registration, elimination of early voting and absentee voting, and laws making it harder to restore voting rights for people who have paid their debt to society. These laws are a barrier to an inclusive democracy. We are stepping backward toward another dark time in our history.

We cannot separate the dangerous trend across this nation from our history and the struggle for the right to vote. Before the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965, not so very long ago, it was almost impossible for some citizens to register and vote. Many were harassed, jailed, beaten, and some were even killed for trying to participate in the democratic process.

The right to vote is precious and almost sacred, and one of the most important blessings of our democracy. Today we must be vigilant in protecting that blessing.

The history of the right to vote in America is a history of conflict, of struggling for the right to vote. Many people died trying to protect that right. I was beaten, and jailed because I stood up for it. For millions like me, the struggle for the right to vote is not mere history; it is experience. We should not take a step backward with new poll taxes and voter ID laws and barriers to voting. We must ensure every vote and every voter counts.

The vote is the most powerful, non-violent tool we have in a democratic society. We must not allow the power of the vote to be neutralized. We must never go back.

Obama’s 4 Billion Dollar Crackdown on Health Care Fraud

    By: Sarah Jones – June 2, 2012

Business Week wrote, “Federal authorities say they recovered $4.1 billion in health care fraud judgments last year, a record high which officials on Monday credited to new tools for cracking down on deceitful Medicare claims. The recovered funds are up roughly 50 percent from 2009.”

The New York Times explained the Obama initiative was “designed to woo Americans on both sides of the political fence; both conservatives and liberals can embrace going after wasteful government spending and overpayments to insurance companies.”

What was that about fiscal conservatism? Yeah, that’s what we thought.

Well, anyway I had finally thought of a comparative analogy if the US voters decide to vote for Romney. It is as if a teenager takes the family car out uses drugs or alcohol and wrecks it. Then wants his own car and the enabling parents give him his own car instead of a punishment/consequence. US voters giving Romney their vote is like enabling parents giving their irresponsible careless teen their own car.

What I find most troubling is people who think he’s a moderate…..he is far from it….the fact that he surrounds himself with war mongers Bushies says it all….not to mention all the far right positions he took.

I know that Clinton’s comments made the round but I remember a few months ago former President Carter said he would be comfortable with a Romney’s presidency but that he expected President Obama to win.

I like Jimmy Carter, he did a lot of good and noble things but he was dead wrong on that one….the Romney who pretended to be moderate to be elected in a Blue State is an illusion…..he is extremely dangerous,…..

The Voter Empowerment Act: More necessary than ever

By Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) and Rep. Robert Brady (D-Pa.) – 05/30/12

The Voter Empowerment Act protects the integrity of elections by improving eligible voters’ access to the ballot box. It modernizes voter registration using existing technology to automatically and permanently enroll consenting eligible voters while also making certain voter information is secure and accurate. It would also provide for online registration, allow same day voter registration at the poll, and simplifies the registration process for members of the military serving overseas. The bill also ensures the integrity of elections by providing funds to better train poll workers and by banning officials in charge of elections from participating in campaigns.

Additionally, this legislation protects voting rights by outlawing vote caging and deceptive practices designed to interfere with an individual’s right to vote through intimidation and misinformation. Voter caging is the practice of sending mail to voters at their addresses maintained on voter rolls, creating a list of the mail that is returned as undeliverable or without a return receipt, and using that list to purge or challenge a voters’ registrations on the basis that the voters on the list do not legally reside at their registered address. The bill declares that a voter shall not be denied the right to vote unless the challenge is corroborated by independent evidence, and it also prohibits persons other than election official from challenging a voter’s eligibility based on voter caging and other questionable challenges. Majority-minority neighborhoods are often the target of this practice. And Vote caging disproportionately harms individuals

Sarah Jessica Parker is a huge Obama supporter.

Viewers watching the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday will also see the first national TV ad for President Obama’s re-election campaign – starring actress Sarah Jessica Parker – E! News reports:

The spot features Parker inviting Obama supporters to her house for an upcoming fundraising dinner with the president. The Sex and the City star encourages people to enter a raffle to win two tickets to the shindig, cohosted by Michelle Obama and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, by donating to his reelection efforts.

“The guy who ended the war in Iraq, the guy who says you should be able to marry anyone you want, and the guy who created four million new jobs, that guy President Obama and Michelle are coming to my house for dinner on June 14,” Parker says in the ad. “And I want you to be there, too.”

The Obama campaign confirmed that the ad will air on Sunday. Wintour also recently taped a video promoting the fundraiser, noting that guests should expect “a fantastic evening.”

Now please someone explain to me HOW the whole Presidential delegation fits into his house. I know it is a reasonably sized house but let me see the basic count of WHO MUST stay will the President at all times:

    – the millitary officer who is in charge of the briefcase with the nuclear codes (or the nuclear football)

    – head of the US Secret Service’s president’s personal detail

    – President’s personal doctor

    – a representative from the national security apparatus

    – the US Secret Service detail (do they sleep in turns)

    – a spokesperson for the White House (preferably the Press Secretary)

    – often the chief of staff

    etc, etc

The pic with PBO & Valarie is my favorite pic Chip. FIrst of all, let me say that what you have done with all the pics has definitely encourage the soul and warm the heart. Thanks>> I do want to say that Val is PBO’s girl; She also is Michell’s girl. I know many on this site remember Vernon Jordan, Vernon maid a statement about Val back in 2007.

I encourage (if your are interested) to look it up. I will tell you one of the statements he made, which I my self seen her live doing it before you knew who she was; and that is she can curse you ass out is such a dignified way that it’s not much you can say, but you will probably have this feeling thay your soul has been renewed. I’m just saying!. That’s my girl my Girl also!!
