The business man then handed over the keys to a Rolls Royce that was parked on the street in front of the bank. Everything checked out and the loan officer accepted the car as collateral for the loan. An employee then drove the Rolls into the bankโs underground garage and parked it there.
Two weeks later the businessman returned, repaid the $5,000 and the interest which came to $15.41.
The loan officer said, โWe do appreciate your business and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a bit puzzled. While you were away we checked and found that you are a multimillionaire. What puzzles us is why you would bother to borrow $5,000?โ
The business man replied: โWhere else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for fifteen bucks?โ

We trained on how to register, turn in our packets and how to canvass. Everyone there was pumped and aware that we had to do this to get around these laws.
Some people left immediately after the training to go and voter register. A girl that I work with, who is also a die-hard PBO supporter and I have partnered up to do our canvassing and voter registration together. We begin next week Saturday. It is important to note that we are in a deep red district in FL, but we are going to press on.
I was telling my husband yesterday how folks from here want to go into my part of the world to monitor how we vote, but they want to supress their own citizens here. What is wrong with that picture? What’s even more troubling is that the so-called respectable media folk like Brian Williams, Scott Pelley or Diane Sawyer are mum on this issue. Nevertheless with or without them, we are going to work doubly hard to re-elect PBO. The alternative would be monumentally disastrous.
I don’t know who Scott Pelley is but the other two names don’t surprise me for not being responsible. They should be notified via any means possible none the less that this is an Important Story that needs to get out THERE!
Are you saying, AT2, that if you register on Saturday you turn it in on Sunday? Are the registry offices(or whatever they’re called) open on Sunday to receive registrations? I’m assuming you are in Florida, do they have 7 days a week service? It truly boggles my mind that states can get away with these rules EVEN THOUGH IT’S OBVIOUS WHAT THEY ARE TRYING TO DO! This is America, for pete’s sake!
An engineer dies and reports to the pearly gates. St. Peter checks his dossier and says, “Ah, you’re an engineer. You are in the wrong place.”
So, the engineer reports to the gates of hell and is let in. Pretty soon, the engineer gets dissatisfied with the level of comfort in hell, and starts designing and building improvements. After a while, they’ve got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and the engineer is a pretty popular guy.
One day, God calls Satan up on the telephone and says with a sneer, “So, how’s it going down there in hell?”
Satan replies, “Hey, things are going great. We’ve got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and there’s no telling what this engineer is going to come up with next.”
God replies, “What? You’ve got an engineer? That’s a mistake. He should never have gotten down there; send him up here.”
Satan says, “No way.” I like having an engineer on the staff, and I’m keeping him.”
God says, “Send him back up here or I’ll sue.”
Satan laughs uproariously and answers, “Yeah, right. And just where do you think are you going to get your lawyer?”
This particular ‘cool’ engineer seems to like to stir trouble, so it’s a good thing you have easy access to the lawyers . ๐ [suggestion / Is your third child going to be a lawyer?]
“(Reuters) – German solar power plants produced a world record 22 gigawatts of electricity per hour – equal to 20 nuclear power stations at full capacity – through the midday hours on Friday and Saturday, the head of a renewable energy think tank said.”
Of course, as it stands, it makes my physicists’ skin crawl – what probably happened is that the combined power production of German’s solar energy fields was 22 Gigawatts for several hours during midday Friday and Saturday (assuming most of the weather in Germany is like it is in the Netherlands this weekend that is no surprise).
So, he lost some white votes in KY and OK, states he isn’t going to win anyway. I’d be interested to know if they had open primaries. #LANDSLIDEOBAMA12
You know what is funny? That the President is either tied or has a decent lead in Florida, Ohio and Wisconsin, but Scarborough said we are going to give those States To Robney.
The only reason I can think of, is the purging of Democrats from voter rolls and Voter ID laws.
Otherwise, why is he do confident, those States will be Red?
Thus, I think the President should make it a Campaign issue, make it part of His Stump speech.
That is all.
The most generous interpretation is that Leon Panetta is collaborating with the WH to force republican to consider tax increases on the wealthy. The least generous interpretation is that Leon Panetta is playing power games with the President of the United States.
He has always for years and years been this way, so unfortunately the Admin knew what they were getting. It just wasn’t that obvious when he headed the CIA since all those budget hearings are double-secret and couldn’t be mentioned by anybody. We can be mad, we can hope for that Duct Tape, but we can’t be too conspiracy theory about it.
Jerk Tapper- is Bain resonating, polls show race tightening.
More Robney talking points?
And the Press, really doesn’t even like Robney. It must mean that the MSM has an ego, and it’s all a game to them.
Jennifer is worth more than a handful of rethugs. Come to think of it, more than a handful of other types of Dems. Strickland is another hot one lately. More of them, please.
Thanks for the link, africa. Interesting read. The emotional bond PBO has made with all of us cannot be replicated by any other one, most certainly not a stiff phony empty soul like Romney.
I heard a stupid, weird joke this week, but it made me laugh out loud. The comedian said he was walking down the path and saw a dead baby ghost….long silence….then: Well, it might have been a handkerchief.
Now you know the level of my sense of humor.
Hi OSG, I think I’ll take this one over some of the gross, vulgar stuff some comedians feel compelled to throw over the public airwaves as humour. ๐
Sometimes women are overly suspicious of their husbands. When Adam stayed out very late for a few nights, Eve became upset.
“You’re running around with other women,” she charged.
“You’re being unreasonable,” Adam responded. “You’re the only woman on earth.” The quarrel continued until Adam fell asleep, only to be awakened by someone poking him in the chest. It was Eve.
WASHINGTON โ In a new effort to halt more than a year of bloodshed in Syria, President Obama will push for the departure of President Bashar al-Assad under a proposal modeled on the transition in another strife-torn Arab country, Yemen.

The plan calls for a negotiated political settlement that would satisfy Syrian opposition groups but that could leave remnants of Mr. Assadโs government in place. Its goal is the kind of transition under way in Yemen, where after months of violent unrest, President Ali Abdullah Saleh agreed to step down and hand control to his vice president, Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi, in a deal arranged by Yemenโs Arab neighbors. Mr. Hadi, though later elected in an uncontested vote, is viewed as a transitional leader.
The massacre of children may force Russia to finally collaborate with the West. Sadly, it often takes horror of this magnitude to change minds and hearts.
Jovie, thanks for mentioning that. I thought the same thing. It was typical Newton Leroy and Gregory allowed him to continue with no push back on any of his “facts”.
I don’t know what it is with these talking heads but they always let Republicans dominate the conversation. What makes it even worst is their refusal to push back against the lies being told.
I’m watching it now and O’Malley could definitely be doing a better job of pushing back. The R’s just have better surrogates than the D’s plain and simple. Gingrich is taking every opportunity to refute and bring up talking points against PBO. This isn’t David Gregory’s fault.
Right. People like Gingrich and Ryan (who’s a bigger pinhead than Gingrich) know exactly what they are going to get away with on these shows. Say what they want for as long as they want Gregory won’t stop them. Look at the Bachman debacle from a few weeks back. She went on MTP and took over.
Dead on, Melanie. Dead on. Who’s duct taping these people’s mouths? And be honest, Gengrich is an old hand at this sort of thing. He’s better than most rethugs at it. We should’ve had Robert Gibbs against him. We can’t wait for the “media” to rescue us, we’ve to get better at the dirty fight.

โBut I think the far more damaging is the planned, corporately funded, interlocking web of propaganda โ the think tanks underwritten by corporate funders, the โacademic journalsโ underwritten by corporate funders, and right wing newspapers, radio, and television not to mention low-life, bottom feeding scandal mongers, all funded by huge right-wing moneyโฆ
Just in case you donโt know about DonorsChoose.org, I can tell you itโs a wonderful organization. DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Here’s how it works: public school post classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org. that range from pencils to microscopes. You can browse project requests and give any amount to the one that inspires you. Once a project reaches its funding goal, DonorsChoose delivers the materials to the school. You’ll get photos of your project taking place, a thank-you letter from the teacher, and a cost report. If you give over $50, you may choose to receive hand-written thank-you letters from the students.
Our school district has a very large military family population, and I have no doubt that our students and their families will be remembering their love ones and friends on this Memorial Day. As a military spouse of a Desert Storm veteran and a mom (all of which are doing well), this includes my family too.
Thank you TODville for considering helping with this project, and for all that you do to support PBO and this country.
God Bless our military and their families,
And God Bless the United States of America!
Thank you for this post, evonnc. I’m familiar to Donorschoose.org, I think I first heard about it from a comment from another person here and I know Steven Colbert also is involved. I have given to them before. In honor of Memorial Day, I will definitely contribute to this project.
Always tweet your great stuff DF!!!! Thanks for finding it for us! BTW good morning. How was graduation? Is family still here. Hope you are having a wonderful time!
According to the Pentagon 4,487 American soldiers died in the Iraq War; 32,226 were wounded.
For this tremendous sacrifice, Iraqis gained the right to vote and Universal Health Care.
The United States committed to spend $950 million to establish universal healthcare. In article 31 of The Iraqi Constitution, written by the Bush administration, it states:
โEvery citizen has the right to health care. The State shall maintain public health and provide the means of prevention and treatment by building different types of hospitals and health institutions. โ
Thirty-two of the thirty-three developed nations have universal health care. The United States is the lone exception. The following list was compiled from World Health Organization sources.
It’s fabulous. It will always serve to remind me of this great period of political engagement in my life. I also bought some buttons with the same image. Very cool, everyone always asks me where I got it!!
It was not so long ago the country was vehemently divided over the issue of immigration. It was just another political dog and pony show. Remember the Mosque? What happened that these issues no longer loom as expedient?
Propaganda reinforces anxiety. And too often the anxiety has been created by the propaganda itself. Because if you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth. It was Adolf Hitler who said, “What good fortune for those in power that the people do not think.”
Thanks to the Citizens United decision and millions of propagandized patriots, America is now more immersed in corporate influence than ever. It was Mussolini who said. โFascism should rightly be called corporatism as it is a merger of state and corporate powerโ. He should know since heโs credited with creating it.
Oh! Oh… Ignore my advice below, Amk. Congrats on your bea-u-tiful prizes!
[/befuddled/ I don’t understand this. Chips still owes me three- count them 1, 2, 3 – rewards from the past week! I wait patiently with gentle reminders here and there….. Nothing. Amk threatens, intimidates.. he gets three – count them 1, 2,3 – pics. This has happened before too. I don’t get it. Hmmmn. Hmmmn. I’ll definitely have to think on this as, of course I don’t want to rush to the conclusion that our Chips is sexist. /shaking head slowly in bemusement/ This is a puzzle.
I see you two. Busy as I might be, when you two are in action here I always feel it better to behave like a prison warden, dropping in now and then to make sure you’re not getting up to mischief in your cells. I should add, I’d actually pay in (and wouldn’t expect a freebie) to see your double-act comedy show, you crack me up so often I’m in splinters.
Take it easy, pard! Take it easy. You know Chips is so busy on weekends she forgets the winners. My suggestion is to make a list of dates & post title, then present your proof in a timely, PROFESSIONAL manner. I’ll volunteer to be your lawyer. You engineers can at times be too rigid or hot-headed. My position is you don’t want to antagonize/intimidate the gift giver; give her time to catch her breath – a day or two, maybe. Didn’t YOUR grandmother ever tell you that one can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar? Take it ea-sy!

I am working my tail off in my “red” neck of the woods in NJ to get our PBO 4 more years. Took a couple of weeks off, which
included attending my daughter’s graduation from college. That was a happy day for me …and my pocketbook! ๐
Good afternoon to a great getting up day you O’s!!!! It’s gonna be 97 degrees here in Chi-Tod. I love the heat, so this is gonna be a wunnerful, wunnerful one for me.Thanks to those who served in the military and to their families who sacrificed. Thank a union, if you have Monday off work in memory of those who lost their lives for their country.
My political take today is: You know the repub party is in trouble when both the RNC and Mitt’s campaign don’t have an official site where comments are allowed. You know they are in a flux when Mitt can’t speak as head of the party, and the current heads of their party don’t refer to Mitt as their leader.

George Will Speaks Out Against Romneyโs Association With Trump: โWhat Is Romney Seeking?โ
———————————
But the campaignโs wink and nod to the birther crowd is unmistakable and this morning, during an appearance on ABCโs This Week, columnist George Will slammed Romney for sharing a stage with the self-promoting businessman. Describing Trump as a โbloviating ignoramus,โ Will said, โI do not understand the cost benefit here. The costs are clear. The benefit โ what voter is gonna vote for him [Romney] because he is seen with Donald Trump? The cost of appearing with this bloviating ignoramus is obvious it seems to meโ:
WILL: Donald Trump is redundant evidence that if your net worth is high enough, your IQ can be very low and you can still intrude into American politics. Again, I donโt understand the benefit. What is Romney seeking?
We are home from our WONDERFUL trip to Brazil! I’m still on Brazil time, but I wanted to check in and let everyone know what a beautiful, interesting country that Brazil is…the people are wonderful and beautiful also. We were in Rio and in Salvador, Bahia, two completely different cities, but equally amazing. They LOVE our President down there also. I’ll tell you about that experience later. Hope everyone has been well.
LET’S FACE, THE REPUBLICANS ARE THE PROBLEM (AND SO IS THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA)
1) A POX ON ONE OF YOUR HOUSES
As for the “rules” I mentioned at the outset, Mann and Ornstein offered the media some good advice: “We understand the values of mainstream journalists, including the effort to report both sides of a story. But a balanced treatment of an unbalanced phenomenon distorts reality…. Our advice to the press: Don’t seek professional safety through the even-handed, unfiltered presentation of opposing views. Which politician is telling the truth? Who is taking hostages, at what risks and to what ends?”
It’s a rarely-seen thesis, which seemed likely to generate widespread discussion. But Media Matters prepared a fascinating report on the ways in which the Mann/Ornstein argument “has been largely ignored, with the top five national newspapers writing a total of zero news articles on their thesis.” The report included this chart:
Ok, I can’t hold in my prideful feelings anymore. My son just graduate, in April, as a Network and Internet Specalist. Attending grad ceremony in May was totally awesome, I’m so proud. He’s presently job hunting and prospects look good.
I see no reason why you should have held in your prideful feeling! We feel the pain when they struggle, why shouldn’t we shout with pride when they succeed? Congratulations to you AND your son! {{{SmoothS & SON}}} Way to go towards the future!
Former White House Press Secretary and Obama adviser Robert Gibbs dismissed Mitt Romney as no “economic savior” Sunday.
Top advisers to both the president and his GOP challenger sparred on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” continuing the argument over how voters should judge Romney’s long tenure at private-equity firm Bain Capital.
Here’s another good one from Robert Gibbs on the April 29, 2012 edition of “Meet The Republicans” with David Gregory:
Robert Gibbs: Romneyโs slogan is Obama โdidnโt clean up our mess fast enoughโ
———————————
โThe last six months of the Bush administration, we lost three and half million jobs. We know this about Mitt Romney: Heโs not a job creator. When he was governor of Massachusetts, they were 47th out of 50 in job creation. His experience is in downsizing, outsourcing jobs and bankrupting companies and walking away with a lot of money for himself.โ
Gibbs added: โHis economic ideas are the failed economic ideas that we tried for eight years, tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires, and letting Wall Street go back to writing the rules all over again. That is the policies that got us into this mess.โ
On Monday morning, the President and First Lady will host a breakfast in honor of Gold Star Families. This breakfast in the State Dining Room is closed press.
Later in the morning, the President and First Lady will travel to Arlington National Cemetery where the President will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and deliver remarks. The wreath-laying as well as the President’s remarks are open to pre-credentialed media.
In the afternoon, the President, the Vice President, the First Lady and Dr. Biden will travel to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall where they will attend a ceremony in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. The President will deliver remarks, which will be open to pre-credentialed members of the media.

Amk, you’re on a roll today! (My hubby also engineer, good one!!)
We engineers are cool or what. ๐
This particular ‘cool’ engineer seems to like to stir trouble, so it’s a good thing you have easy access to the lawyers . ๐ [suggestion / Is your third child going to be a lawyer?]
Third child ??? What do you take me for, a chump ?
A smart engineer who likes to cover his bases? ๐
Well, your very cool, but I think you’re asleep not, looking at the time.
LOL, pretty funny.
Well, the Big Coal Companies better hurry up with their lobbying:
http://uk.reuters.com/article/2012/05/26/us-climate-germany-solar-idUKBRE84P0FI20120526
This Guy is usually a Right-wing writer-

So, he lost some white votes in KY and OK, states he isn’t going to win anyway. I’d be interested to know if they had open primaries. #LANDSLIDEOBAMA12
The President got more votes in the KY (D) Primaries than the former Governor of MA got in the KY (R) Primaries.
Same in West Virginia.
I totally agree. Repugs can’t win on message, so they resort to lying, cheating, stealing and dirty tricks.
Scar is always confident about everything. Even when the truth is starting him in the face.
3 Names: John Kasich, Scott Walker, Rick Scott= Obama wins
Good morning everyone. I love the simple elegance and effectiveness of the vote poster.
Fascinating story from a person that attended school at Marquette with Scott Walker…. It is really a Warning.
Scott Walker at Marquette University, a Personal Remembrance by Dr. Glen Barry

Thanks, Linda. That is Really SAD how Wisconsin got so Fooled by the Sociopath, Scott Walker.
I so hope they get out of their Fascist Nightmare!

Leon Panetta on tv saying that the sequester is disastrous.
Republican fodder?
Gawd…that man needs to be duck taped…..
4 conservatives against Jennifer Granholm on this Week. Oh Boy!
Jennifer is winning the argument! Ha.
Jennifer is worth more than a handful of rethugs. Come to think of it, more than a handful of other types of Dems. Strickland is another hot one lately. More of them, please.
I concur!

These are the points we should be pushing at local levels.

This: The emotional tug of PBO
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/27/opinion/sunday/bruni-the-emotional-tug-of-obama.html?_r=1&smid=tw-share
I liked it. (Maybe we should both get a ghostwriter. Ha!)
Hi OSG, I think I’ll take this one over some of the gross, vulgar stuff some comedians feel compelled to throw over the public airwaves as humour. ๐
Good west coast morning Chipsticks and TOD family.
Congrats to Team amk/vc ๐
I love the morning jokes amk. HA!
Have a great Sunday everyone!
Ok. Here is the last one for the day.
It was Eve.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Adam demanded.
“Counting your ribs!”
๐
LOL!!!!
And on that note, I’m going to church to pray for you ๐
๐ Hope you said a very long and heartfelt prayer, GG!
A Happy east & west coasts morning back at you, GG! Thanks.
And a good morning from the midwest!

I hope it works but Assad acts as if he ain’t going nowhere.
The massacre of children may force Russia to finally collaborate with the West. Sadly, it often takes horror of this magnitude to change minds and hearts.
This is fucking ridiculous, out of a 20 minute conversation- Gingrich spoke 19.9 minutes and omalley spoke 1 second.
Not fair!!!
I Also think people see Gingrich and immediately think, I hate him.
Only the far right likes Him, thus, I don’t think he is a potent surrogate!
I’m watching it now and O’Malley could definitely be doing a better job of pushing back. The R’s just have better surrogates than the D’s plain and simple. Gingrich is taking every opportunity to refute and bring up talking points against PBO. This isn’t David Gregory’s fault.
Omalley made some very good points, in the second he got to talk.
Gregory facilitates, so he is responsible.
Right. People like Gingrich and Ryan (who’s a bigger pinhead than Gingrich) know exactly what they are going to get away with on these shows. Say what they want for as long as they want Gregory won’t stop them. Look at the Bachman debacle from a few weeks back. She went on MTP and took over.
No Gingrich took the opportunity to jump in. Not Gregory’s fault.

Just a reminder of the journalistic prose of the amazing Molly Ivins:
http://wisdomvoices.com/remember-the-spirit-of-molly-ivins-we-are-the-people-who-run-this-country/
โYou can not only vote, you can register other people to vote, round up your friends, get out and do political education, talk to people, laugh with people, call the radio, write the paper, write your elected representatives, use your email list, put up signs, march, volunteer and raise hellโฆWe won the cold war after 50 years, and suddenly our politics is sour, angry, ugly, full of people who canโt discuss public affairs without getting all red in the faceโฆ.

I wish that she was still here……………..
I get it! So, the Republucan\Robney strategy for it’s Surrogates is, to filibuster and not let the Democrats talk. Check!

I donโt post often, but I read TODville posts practically every day. This is such a great place that I thought I would ask TODville to consider donating to my DonorsChoose project @ http://www.donorschoose.org/project/3rd-generation-ipad-for-21st-century-art/792434 , or to one of my school districts project proposals such as a proposal by one of my colleagues @ http://www.donorschoose.org/project/i-pad-the-perfect-chemical-equation/779666
God Bless our military and their families,
And God Bless the United States of America!
good morning! we surely owe a lot to you, your spouse, and others who have served this nation.
I know Chips is busy but I hope if she gets a chance to read this then she may pull it upfront so that others can see your request.
here is to hoping for a good show of support for your activism
Thanks, GlobalCitizenlinda ๐
Thank you for this post, evonnc. I’m familiar to Donorschoose.org, I think I first heard about it from a comment from another person here and I know Steven Colbert also is involved. I have given to them before. In honor of Memorial Day, I will definitely contribute to this project.
I do hope that you post more often.
I donated $50.

Gibbs was very good on FTN. Now that is a campaign Surrogate!

http://www.thepragmaticpundit.com/2011/07/political-propaganda-has-defiled.html
Ok. I am going to be seriously pissed off if I don’t get my reward. Chips, you’ve been warned.
๐ I’m soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooory amk, had to rush away earlier – do you forgive me????
A trifecta. Perfect. Thanks chips.
You should be glad that I wasn’t holding my breath and go all blue on her. ๐
Me and mischief are strangers. I don’t know what you are talking about.
Our Lovely First Lady

Have a great Holiday weekend everyone. FORWARD.

This is more important than blogging here. Keep up the good work. Congrats to your daughter. This week seems to a graduation week all around.
Watching NIck Toons with the grandson and who shows up on Wild Grinder but an animated PBO there to save the universe. Grandson goes, “Ganna, Ganna, it’s Orock Barama on Nick Toons!!!”

Good Morning/Afternoon TOD Family!
Glad you had a wonderful trip. Looking forward to the details. Brazil is on my bucket list.
Obrigada Elle. You won’t regret the trip.

Who is taking hostages, at what risks and to what ends?”
http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/04/30/11471098-a-pox-on-one-of-your-houses?lite
2) IF A PROVOCATIVE THESIS FALLS IN A FOREST……..

He’s presently job hunting and prospects look good.
that’s supposed to be Network and Internet Security Specialist.
I see no reason why you should have held in your prideful feeling! We feel the pain when they struggle, why shouldn’t we shout with pride when they succeed? Congratulations to you AND your son! {{{SmoothS & SON}}} Way to go towards the future!
Congrats to your son! I’d be proud too! ๐
Thank you ! I appreciate that.
Former White House Press Secretary and Obama adviser Robert Gibbs dismissed Mitt Romney as no “economic savior” Sunday.
Top advisers to both the president and his GOP challenger sparred on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” continuing the argument over how voters should judge Romney’s long tenure at private-equity firm Bain Capital.
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/229689-gibbs-romney-is-no-economic-savior

I think it’s very important to not just mention the 47. It’s 37 to 47. That connection needs to be reiterated over and over.
