More than the bullying aspect of the incident, Mitt’s laughter IMO highlights his total cluelessness and his insensitivity. Even if at the time of the cruelty he was too ‘young’ to have empathy, etc (yeah, I know age has nothing to do with this character trait), given all that has been happening in our time with regards to ‘It Gets Better’ an individual with an ounce of feeling would not have laughed. If you think about it, Mitt’s laughter, at least in his public life, always seems to come at the expense of someone else’s pain. He is IMO one mean, heartless, selfcentred individual.

If you consider the recent comments Romney has made in certain situations with these publicized incidents in high school, I am led to conclude that he is a mean spritied person. The recent comments I’m referring to was his unnecessary dig out the cookies being from the local 7-11 (instead of a simple, Thank you), his unnecessary dig at President Carter (in re: the killing of Bin Laden), his unnecessary dig about the rain ponchos while his was in Florida.

For all you know he’s seen the light, gotten some help, gotten stabilized with medication and now has a different perspective on things.

Pres.Obama’s declaration apparently upset some people. I was treated to an anti-gay rant at the bus stop. Man even had a megaphone. Going on and on about ‘its Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve’ and “politicians aren’t the moral authority’ ( right, but you standing on the sidewalk shouting at people, you’re the moral authority?). No one was really listening but he was going on and on as if Pres.Obama said it was mandatory and he just had to run out and tell the whole world that homosexuality is wrong etc. etc.

Oh and this was a black guy.

The USA is not a Christian nation as most would like you to believe. The Constitution and the laws prohibit discrimination. We as citizens swear to uphold the laws and to protect and defend the Constitution. The Constitution also guarantees the right to practice your religion or none at all. Which means, your opinion and faith is just that . . . yours.

Everyone is required to uphold the laws and religion has nothing to do with policy making. It is two separate things.

Arguing with him is a non starter, but if you bring their attention to the core of the issue, which is the laws of the land and the Constitution, there is no legitimate argument to be made.

    http://crooksandliars.com/jon-perr/republicans-the-anti-stimulus

But while the U.S. economy under President Obama continues to outperform the austerians in Europe, American growth and employment numbers could have been much better. Better, that is, if steep cuts by state and local governments hadn’t undone the indisputable job creation benefits of the federal stimulus. Thanks to intransigent Republican governors and their obstructionist GOP allies in Congress, the shrinking American public sector has slowed the recovery from the Bush recession and added a full point to the U.S. unemployment rate.

That’s the word from Tuesday’s Wall Street Journal, where Justin Lahart explained that the “unemployment rate without government cuts: 7.1%.”

When we designed our TIGER program here at DOT, we wanted a competitive grant process that rewarded communities for coming together to solve problems. Towns, cities, counties, regions–they know what they need to help get people from place to place and boost economic development, and we wanted to hear their ideas.
Salt Lake City, South Salt Lake City, and the Utah Transit Authority put together a strong partnership and submitted an innovative idea that made the most of the community’s resources and strengths: the Sugar House Streetcar. And yesterday, I had the great pleasure of helping that community celebrate a very festive groundbreaking for the new line

Must Read! Romney’s master plan…since he HAS no ideas of his own….

    http://crooksandliars.com/jon-perr/romneys-strategy-call-kettle-black

Two funny things happened this week on Mitt Romney’s way to the White House. First, the man who cried “let Detroit go bankrupt” announced “I’ll take a lot of credit” for President Obama’s million-job saving rescue of the American auto industry. But just as telling was the Republican’s claim that, despite Obama’s “Forward” campaign slogan, it was the President who was “looking backward.” After all, Mitt Romney isn’t merely offering an even more reactionary resurrection of George W. Bush’s failed policies. As it turns out, from his charges on immigration reform and women’s issues to labeling Obama an out of touch “Marie Antoinette” and so much else, Romney’s strategy is call to the kettle black.

(Click a link below for the details on each.)

    “Looking Backward”
    “Fairness”
    “Out of Touch”
“Spent Too Much Time at Harvard”
    “Hide-and-Seek Campaign”
    “Broke His Promise to Hispanics”
“Respect Women in All Those Choices That They Make”

I’ve thought long and hard about this bullying incident with Romney, and in the past I’ve described him here as mean and even cruel in some of his comments and interactions on the campaign trail. Yes, we all did things in high school we are not proud of, but for the life of me I cannot imagine participating or condoning the type of behavior set forth in this incident. I have concluded that character is indeed formed by the time we are 18. That doesn’t mean we can’t change, but the inner soul and values are there and formed. Tonight I went back and read an extensive piece that David Maransiss did on PBO in August of 2008 in the Washington Post documenting his history and early years. His high school friends describe him as “kind and protective,” even in high school. In short, I believe that the things described about these men from there high school days reflect who they are today. Unfortunately, there are many voters, particularly here in the South, who would much prefer a leader who is a bully to one who was and is described as kind and protective. But I believe the vast majority of Americans will swing to PBO’s character when push comes to shove.

I won’t be around much this weekend but wishing everyone a great one, and a particular;y warm wish for all the mothers!

The President is kind and protective but he’s also tough and fearless. He has demonstrated physical, moral and political courage that Mitt Romney could never come close to.
Mitt Romney is only brave when picking on those weaker than himself and even then he has to have his “pack” with him. Barack Obama is brave in the defense of those who need him to stand up for them. Barack Obama is a real man.

I never heard this before! I thought this was another song called “Love Power” that I remember from back in the day…can’t remember who sang it though…now it’s bothering me.

If you consider the recent comments Romney has made in certain situations with these publicized incidents in high school, I am led to conclude that he is a mean spritied person. The recent comments I’m referring to was his unnecessary dig about the cookies being from the local 7-11 (instead of a simple, Thank you), his unnecessary dig at President Carter (in re: the killing of Bin Laden), his unnecessary dig about the rain ponchos while his was in Florida. It adds us to pure meaness.

GOP insiders are freaking out, need to change views on gay rights: This from a memo intercepted by Andrew Sullivan: http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2012/05/top-gop-pollster-to-gop-reverse-on-gay-issues.html
Apparently they are worried that PBO’s move has given him the initiative on this issue.

Well, isn’t that special. Too late for them though. The Teabaggers have taken over the party and they won’t be having ANY of this! You lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas! I would venture to say that this should also include ANY social issue…the country is WAY beyond where these wingnuts are. This may be their Waterloo.

DF, Romney would be crucified by his wingnuts if he shifted on gay marriage now, weeks before the nomination. This is exactly what they said he would do and they would be alienated and disgusted. He sold whatever remnants of his soul he had left to the tea party and there’s no going back. Of course, being a lying hypocrite has never stopped him before, but people are going to get whiplash from all his flopping around and the smell of phony is going to get overwhelming.

Can Mitt flip flop on the gay marriage issue? I don’t think so.

If he can flip flop on the auto industry, nothing is off limits.

I think the man has a chronic disorder. He can’t help himself and the most boggling aspect is that when he flips, he actually believes that was the view he always held.

    • May 12, 2012 at 6:41 am

“Apparently they are worried that PBO’s move has given him the initiative on this issue.”

Yeah, that would be a first, wouldn’t it ….

Sigh, when will they stop underestimating this guy (I’m starting to wonder if that isn’t an aspect of their racism).

Remember, the “gaffe” by Biden last Sunday must be seen as “Reconnaissance”.

I think the thing that gets lost in terms of religion is that the Constitution states you have the right to a religion AND the right to have no religion at all.

That is what is causing all the mix up. They forget the second half of the requirement which is why you get the Say Pays saying the USA is a Christian nation. No it isn’t.

      • 209 nospin
        May 12, 2012 at 9:27 am

another thing is that Christianity isn’t the only religion. Everyone has the right to practice their own. Even Mormonism (here’s looking at you Romney).

But this is not even news, really. PBO has been pushing pro-LGBT legislation from day 1 and has pretty much given the indication that he’s moving towards complete equality for the LGBT community, yet his support among Blacks has remained sky high – the highest of any single demographic over the last 3 years. So I’m not sure why the MSM seems to be surprised with this latest move and it’s (non) effect on Black support.

Al Sharpton, David Dinkins, David Patterson, Corey Booker and Jesse Jackson have all OPENLY endorsed SSM as politicians, and their support among their Black constituents did not diminish for that reason!!

Yes, the Black community must address the homophobia that plagues the Black Church, but on the national level for this country to move forward, the focus needs to be primarily on the White evangelical and Mormon groups who are mobilizing and have 6 times the collective power and financial influence of the Black church!

Brilliant. President Obama, as always, is working tirelessly for the American people. And that includes the Teabaggers whether they like it or not. Yes, he is trying to make their lives better too. What a snob?

Meanwhile, the Republican Party has been doing nothing but sabotaging the economic recovery. They spend all of their time trying to blame President Obama for the countries problems while pretending they had nothing to do with it. Mitt Romeny and the GOP should be known as the Do Nothing – Please Look At That Shiny Object Party. That’s their governing strategy. They have disdain for the American people. They are not fit to take the oath of office.

In 2010, there was an effort — led mostly by freshmen Democratic senators like Tom Udall and Jeff Merkley — to reform the filibuster. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid squelched their campaign. Last night, he apologized to them on the Senate floor:

If there were ever a time when Tom Udall and Jeff Merkley were prophetic, it’s tonight. These two young, fine senators said it was time to change the rules of the Senate, and we didn’t. And they were right. The rest of us were wrong — or most of us, anyway. What a shame…

Mr. President, I am finished here, but I just want to say again, for those that are listening here or watching, Senator Udall and Senator Merkley want to do something to change the rules regarding filibuster. If there were anything that ever needed changing in this body, it’s the filibuster rule, because it’s been abused, abused, and abused.

Reid’s comments came after Republicans filibustered his attempt to move a House-passed compromise reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank. But the proximate cause of Reid’s ire hardly matters. The point is that he’s concluded he was wrong to oppose filibuster reform when Democrats had the chance.

Yup, a case of too little, too late. Imagine if he had had the cajones & foresight to do it in 2008 (even before udall &merkeley) , how many bills, how many appointments could have been pushed before 2010 happened. Heck, it could have even changed the 2010 electoral map.

Like I said yesterday, you can’t make a gentleman’s agreement with a group of politicians who are morally bankrupt. You can’t call the senate the greatest deliberative body in the world when one party shuts down deliberation. Talk about a delayed reaction Harry. I understand there is this desire for comity but there was no reason to think the Republicans were going to change their behavior. They made no secret of their intentions. Filibuster abuse has rendered the government dysfunctional. But we knew that early on.
