So, I returned home to hear Tweety saying the PBO admin was mad at VPB. He wondered why they were treating VPB so wrong. See I told you the good twin isn’t out long.

I turned on the TV and heard the same thing. I heard two reporters who said that since they hadn’t heart that PBO was going to come out in support of same sex marriage sometime before the convention, intimating that it must not have been true because they hadn’t heard it. trying to paint the whole thing as Biden’s slip up pushing them.

Anything these assholes can do to minimize the impact.

      I loathe them all.

That’s the new MSM meme. Now that the SSM didn’t quite work out the way they had planned, they’re on the next mission and have received Rove or Luntz’s instructions: To spread propaganda that PBO and VP Biden have “problems.” Chips posted some pics of PBO and VP Biden enjoying each other’s company and that must have really upset some people.

It’s not just Tweety, I saw some tweets from Andrew at Buzzfeed as well as that vile Josh Kraushaar from National Journal about how PBO and Biden are not close at all and how Andrew prefers Biden’s dog Champ to PBO’s dog Bo, and a whole lot of other FOOLISHNESS.

      • May 11, 2012 at 6:13 pm

I think that Obama and Biden are close—–and I think there is truth to this reporting. I could tell by the way President Obama responded to Robin Roberts. And he admitted as much, that this was not the timing they had planned for this, but “all’s well that ends well”.

I’m sure he wasn’t pleased with Joe – but it’s not the SCANDAL that the MSM is trying to report. The MSM is reporting as is there is some huge unforgiveable rift between PBO and Biden – like there was between Clinton and Gore back in 2000.

That doesn’t even SOUND like PBO…holding a grudge? Not this president. Who knows, it may been planned that Joe put it out there. The Belt Way bottom feeders are floating stories to keep the story alive.

I don’t think for a minute that VP Biden’s statement was a “gaffe” or unexpected. PBO is a very shrewd politician and, despite his relative youth, he is the BOSS. VP Biden would never “break” with the President. Ever. And on such a momentous and serious issue? Please. Just look at the timeline. Just look at PBO and VPB together.

      • May 11, 2012 at 6:28 pm

It doesn’t matter what the MSM, PL, Baggers or what not say; PBO’s statement is out there now, He’s kicked the door wide open, and has made history again. They will never be able to diminish or change that fact.

When I first read this I was going to remind everyone of Charles Pierce’s prediction that the “dingbats…will fling their poo” in all directions, but then I thought that this is really a remarkable thing. The president of the US says he’s in favor of SSM, everyone buzzes for a couple of days, and then there’s nothing more to say, so the MSM are back to one of the usual suspects — a rift between PBO and VPJB. Think how far we’ve come if that’s the news two or three days later.

As I was heading back to work from lunch today, I had Randi on in the car. She said as much. That there are plenty of RW nuts (Teabaggers, I’m talking about YOU) that would LOVE the meme that portrays Mittens as a bully, and that that may not be the best way to talk about Romney…even though he IS A BULLY. They would love for the US to just bulldoze its way through any country, for any reason…knock around those “gays” and anyone else that is offensive to them…which covers a lot of ground, since the only people they like, drag their knuckles on the ground and grunt.

Probably there are people like that, but I do not believe they are a huge proportion of the country. Most people are embarrassed by these actions and won’t say anything outloud. Too many have had children who’ve been bullied for one reason or another…..at camp, at school, at sports…..there are more who have been bullied than there are bullies. Only bullies will admire that. I heard on some msnbc program today—-was it on Tamron before her smackdown?—–that Willard is now copying PBO on his campaign speech on the economy. He is now saying—-we don’t want to go back to the policies of the past, those horrible LIBERAL economic policies. They were a failure then and we can’t afford the same failure now. Etc. Willard is the weakest candidate I have ever seen. He seems to have no original ideas, no new plans. He copies Obama on everything—-his blue checked shirt, following him around everywhere, trying to appear where he’s appearing, saying he saved the auto industry, now adapting Obama’s economic campaign pointers. Willard is just a nothing. A wealthy nothing. I see nothing of merit. He doesn’t deserve to be on the same stage as President Obama.

    Chips et al.

For the past few days (particularily some of the happening on twitter yesterday) I really debated about posting this comment, my initial plan was to just no longer post here on TOD and just go to a lurker status and still come to visit and catch up on the daily news, pictures and what not, cause TOD is the best place to read, see and hear about POTUS, FLOTUS and the Administration and campaign, but I just couldn’t keep holding it in and not at least make a comment.

I’m a Black professional, I work with Black professionals, I even know some Black clergy members, and guess what they all in one way or another have no problem with gay marriage. I personally fully support SSM. Does all my family, friends, and co-workers do so, honestly, I don’t believe so, and if they do, they don’t let it affect the way they treat my gay friends, co-workers and family members.

Here’s the thing, I’m really sick of white liberals who I consider good people, saying that Black folks are the ones they have to worry about in terms of gay marriage and or that Blacks people hate gay people as a monolithic group (or that Black people oughta know better…), despite NOT REAL EVIDENCE other than conjecture and PAST data/ feeling or some blog post or anonymous internet poster says so.

Are there some Black people who are against SSM, yes.. Are all Black people against gay marriage…HELL NO. Are a large number Black people religiously conservative…YES? Are they like evanglicals and will only vote for candidates who agree with them religiously…NO (as evidence by the diversity in the religious affliation in the AA community and the Dems who AA overwhelmingly vote for)

Another thing, it wouldn’t matter if every Black person in America voted for Gay marriage…you STILL have a whole lot of White folk who come out to oppose it too. A number of them are white Dems who come out to vote against marriage also, has Hilary Clinton or Bill Clinton’s stance on marriage brought along many of those people. The idea that now that Obama has come out for it, then of course he’ll gonna bring “his people” along with him is just as borderline bigoted as the GOP saying Blacks voted overwhelming for Obama cause he’s Black, even though Blacks always vote overwhelming for Dems anyway.

I don’t like it, but expect it from GOP/Repub. It pisses me off and makes me angrier when it comes from white liberal/dems (particularly from people who I once respected and thought better of) when discussing the Black community when a vote doesn’t go there way in states/regions where there may be a large (but still not larger than white vote).

Enough of this and I’m sick of it.

I get that people want to just forget about the past few days and that’s fine, but I had to get this off my chest. I like TOD, I’ll continue to post here, but I’ma just had to say that people really need to check themselves (before they wreck themselves) before attributing the acts of a few to a whole group of people.

Delete this is you must Chips, but I just had to say my peace.

I view it as just another way for white liberals to attack or psycho-analyze PBO and his views about gay marriage. If the president was white I don’t even think this would be an issue. I’ve been black for 48 years and I’ve never had a discussion about gay marriage with anyone of my friends or family. The most I’ve discussed it has been this week on the internet. It just is not high on our list of priorities just as I would imagine racial profiling or police brutality would not be high on the list of priorities for gay and white liberals.

            • 52 Brit
              May 11, 2012 at 8:00 pm

Many black people are worried about keeping the right to vote. Plus, worried about the education system and the justice system. While many on the Left are concerned about black voters, they need to turn their attention on white liberals who vote in large numbers for many of these anti-gay laws. Earlier this week many on the Left blamed POTUS’ religion and “his community” for the reason he didn’t come out for SSM. SSM has reportedly failed in all of the swing states, and I am pretty sure none of these states have a huge number of black people.

Thanks for posting. The elephant in the room is really the white majority and its racism, misogyny, and homophobia (although, of course, all whites are not prejudiced). Look at the polling data for POTUS or vote in WV: racism is still an issue. Too many on the left have memes such as AAs were responsible for Prop8 in CA when a look at the polling shows it was the white majority that ratified it. More divide and conquer. Too much is at stake in this election for us not to work together.

      • 58 L3
        May 11, 2012 at 6:55 pm

The best response to that accusation is to ask what black person or group placed the initiatives on the ballot in the first place? They will quickly discover there aren’t that many black people who care enough about this issue pro or con to put it up for a vote. Black people are 12% of the population and we don’t have the numbers to approve or reject anything in this country by ourselves. I guess if people understood math better we wouldn’t have this problem.

    • 59 hopefruit2
      May 11, 2012 at 7:04 pm

Lamh35 – thanks for posting this. I’m kind of surprised and somewhat disturbed by the quickness with which some liberals have jumped on the “African-Americans are antigay” bandwagon in light of these recent events. That’s why I’ve been tweeting as much as I can and citing real data showing that AAs were not the ones driving Amendment 1 in NC – despite this being pushed in the media and spread by a few so-called DEMs while citing improper sources.

White people as a group don’t and shouldn’t get labeled as being antigay when Bristol Palin accuses the Obama girls of watching too much Glee, or when Michelle Bachmann’s husband spews his homophobic rhetoric, or when Rick Santorum talks about heterosexual family values or when no White sitting president openly endorsed SSM.

Yet for every Roland Martin or Black evangelical pastor in Atlanta and other parts of the south, we are getting a whole 30-minute media expose on the homophobic “Black community” followed by days upon days of MSM narratives and questions about whether or not PBO will get support from the Black community because he supports gay marriage.

All of a sudden the Al Sharptons, Jesse Jacksons, Corey Bookers, David Dinkins, David Pattersons, numerous Black celebrities, singers, artists, actors, – all of whom endorse and publicly support SSM and other LGBT rights, and who otherwise would be very visible in the political/social arena – are never mentioned or acknowledged.

This is racial scapegoating – there is other word to describe it, and no getting around it. It’s almost as if some are genuinely intimidated and fearful of the right-wing christian homophobic white majority, and need an easy target to dump their frustrations. How can one honestly argue that with 42 white Presidents prior to 2008, a congress that is majority white and has ALWAYS BEEN that way, state and local legislatures that are also majority white, that it’s the “Black community” (12% of the US population) that’s holding up progress for LGBT equality? This is ABSURD! It’s illogical and irrational.

Subject being covered now on Ed show, hosted by Michael Eric Dyson. He’s really diving into this subject. I think the problem with this whole subject originates with black pastors, many of whom have spoken out forcibly and publicly on this subject. Not the black population at large. Dyson is doing a little teaching and preaching here himself. Preaching that it is time for change in the church.

I’m very happy to see Erik Dyson so courageously speak up and point out the hypocrisy that exists with Black pastors like Roland Martin, etc. They need to get with the program and stop hiding behind the “bible” which they largely ignore when they want to carry on their other business!

But that doesn’t excuse the MSM focusing solely on the Black church while giving the white evangelical church and Mormon church a pass. Those two are even more influential and powerful legislatively and economically than the Black church. I think it’s just a matter of being fair all around.

            May 11, 2012 at 8:40 pm

I watched that segment too and I also think Dyson did a fantastic job. He made sure not to portray the whole Black community as anti-gay but he did take to task that pastor who was trying to use the Bible to promote hate of LGBT and same sex marriage.

A lot of that talks started with the defeat of prop 8 in Cali. The Mormons spent a lot of money on that intiative, The wording actually caused the defeat as a no vote meant yes and a yes vote meant no. I will always believe that had that not been the case we Cali would have accepted Prop 8 with open arms. IMO

This meme has come from the right. Not us. My impression has been serious pushback from us against that meme. I don’t pretend to read every comment, but that has been my impression. If anything hopefruit had a great diary that I cited that showed the strength of black support for ssm in NC. That is was the rural white vote that supported the amendment. I’ve posted several comments about the b.s. of this meme — that even black voters in CA in 2008 could distinguish between voting for the President (90%) even if they disagreed with ssm (voted for Prop 8 58%).

I for one love and appreciate your comments and insights. Stay with us. We need and appreciate your perspective.

BTW, 58% of 10-15% is about 5.8% – 8.7% of 52.24% who voted for passage of prop 8, that’s a whole lot of non-Black folk. Yet, the number people who buy into Blacks cause of prop8 always like to say that 58% of black voters voted for passage of prop 8. Which number sounds like it makes a bigger impact…58% or 8.7%?

        • 70 57andfemale
          May 12, 2012 at 10:23 am

That, I think, was part of my point. Overwhelmingly these anti-marriage equality measures are passed by whites, not by blacks. My point about the 58% figure was that people of any color can think of their vote on many tracks. PBO received 90% of the black vote, even though 58% voted for Prop 8.

          • 71 57andfemale
            May 12, 2012 at 10:35 am

Let me clarify again: I don’t think PBO’s statement on marriage equality is going to hurt his votes. I think there are precious few actual Dem’s, no matter what color, who would make their opposition to marriage equality a single issue upon which to withhold their vote. What I have learned over the last week, however, is how many people who were serious about making PBO’s ‘evolution’ a reason to not vote. To me it defies any common sense: you would cost us the Supreme Court for the next 40 years, usher in RWNJ’s that will decimate the New Deal, the economy, and everything important to the success of the nation? Surprisingly, yes. Surpisingly from some pretty well off Dem’s who don’t have to worry about health care or the retirement age of social security. They were willing to not vote or support PBO over this.

Bottom line: a brave stand was made for equality, akin to JFK in the early ’60’s. And it was made by President Barack Obama.

I was talking about TOD, where I didn’t see much of that. Out there in the firebagger world, GG, Dan Savage, The Nation — it was a lot of same b.s. There is nothing this President can do to please these people. I have written some angry comments and posts at The Nation and other places. However like any other issue, we know what the whiny left is. I did also hear a lot of “on the fence” or “unhappy” gays, Dem’s who were thrilled with PBO’s statement with renewed enthusiasm. I don’t go to firebagger-type sites. At dKos the support was overwhelming, and there was significant pushback against and whiny left b.s. and a renewed support for the President.

Dan Savage ain’t no progressive either. He doesn’t give a damn about making progress, and shows stunning ignorance of how to change the political make-up of 300M people. He’s selfishness wrapped in righteousness. That’s more nut job to me, if not necessarily right wing nut job but it’s no less ignorant than the tea party. These are destructive people. Which is what I wrote to The Nation yesterday. Reading The Nation opened my eyes to how virulent these people still are. I get lulled into security here at TOD, and dKos has been vastly better than it was, once the primaries started. I thought the entire progressive community was coming around.

The pitting of blacks, gays, progressive whites, anti-marriage equality blacks against each other spells utter destruction and I am appalled at it. Republicans have been great at forming coalitions and playing the long game. The utter childishness and self-righteousness from the left is appalling. They want personal affirmation — the long term consequences be damned.

Because Republicans talk this way now is NOT how they got into power. They got into power by moving the ball down the field, yard by yard, over 30 years until they had ‘earned’ the right to say stupid things like “bipartisanship means the Democrats accepting all of our crap.” That is not what they said during Reagan, or the two Bushes. They formed coalitions and waited and worked and most important, voted.

The MSM can always fined a Black clergyman or two to denounce SSM and, by extension, PBO.

Many, many, many years ago I participated in a women’s rights demonstration of 40,000 people. The “news” coverage that night gave equal time to five or six counterdemonstrators. That was the beginning but not the end of my political education.

A determined (or lazy) reporter can always find what they need. Got a women’s rights question? Dig up nasty old Phylklis Schafley. How about gay rights? Call the Log Cabin Republicans who will be happy to supply an even nastier sound bite!

ANYTHING PBO does…see if you can lure Allen West out of that cesspool he lives in.

Let’s all take care that in denouncing “white liberals who…” or “Black people who..” we are not committing the same error.

I may not know a lot but I do know the following — anyone who generalizes about a group from observing only a few examples is a fool.

I’m beginning to think these Obamas are just a little bit too ‘huggy’! They need to develop ‘proper’ distance. Just saying. [Yeah, jealousy speaking] I like to think that the way they throw themselves into each baby cuddle or hug rejuvenates something inside them. That’s probably how PBO’s batteries get recharged, and why he hurries over to the rope line at each arrival.

I know why you are afraid of seeing so many people hug PBO since we all worry for his safety. I also know when my husband died I felt so empowered with love and strength from all the people who went through the funeral reception line and hugged me. I think there is power in hugs and PBO needs the hugs as much as the recipients. I think it recharges him and I really think any person that is the President of the US needs as much affirmation as they can get to do such a very difficult job with so much continual criticism.

OG, Honesty compels me to confess that i wasn’t really worried about PBO today. The plain truth was that as I looked at the pics and saw how he really hugged/cuddled ‘with all his heart’ a little jealousy peeped its ugly head out, ‘cos I know I won’t ever meet/ be hugged by him or Michelle. Deep breath, VC. Deal with it!

Though I really do believe, like you, that he is recharged by these encounters! Heck I’m miles away and I’m recharged just from looking at the screen and seeing how his very presence inspires and brings smiles and warmth! 😉

It looks like every secret service agent we have was with PBO in Reno. A wall of dark suits, I counted at least eight who walked with him closely as he crossed the street and many others holding the crowd back. They stood so close to him in the rope line in that neighborhood that you could barely see him. They are always serious, but it seems that they have been even more so in the last few weeks.

I think the Colombia incident has had a powerful effect. I commented a couple of weeks ago when POTUS and FLOTUS were together how many SS agents were around. I didn’t think it was just because the two of them were together, and today affirms that feeling. Some heads were banged together and some people were let go, and some policies were reviewed and some agents were reprimanded and told what they’d better be and do if they want to keep their jobs. They had gotten lazy. They can’t afford to…..that flagrant misbehavior was seen by the whole world. Not what the SS wants people to see.

I remember Michele Bauchmann saying, “If we could get rid of the min. wage, then we could pay “whatever”. Now I think both of these women consider themselves Christians, but I consider them some weird sort of offshoot of conservative thnking. NEW YORK — President Barack Obama is seeing an uptick in fundraising since he announced his shift on gay marriage.

Some Democratic fundraisers say they’re seeing renewed interest from gay and lesbian donors who had urged the president to clarify his stance on the divisive social issue.

Obama’s campaign has declined to say how much it has collected since the announcement but some staffers have asked supporters to give money as a way of expressing their approval.

Following the Obama interview with ABC News, Obama’s national finance director Rufus Gifford said in a posting to the campaign Web site that “if you’re proud of our president, this is a great time to make a donation to the campaign.”

it’s because Tweety feels Biden is “his people” white, working class, Catholic white guys and Obama is not. Tweety always does this. He’s affronted by anything he considers Obama sticking it to the working white guy like his peeps in Pennsylvania…I.E. WHITE LIBERAL PRIVILEGE.

          • May 11, 2012 at 8:58 pm

I didn’t take it that way at all. I thought Tweety was sticking up for Obama. There’s plenty of racism, that’s for sure, but i think we need to be careful not to see it in everything and everywhere. I don’t really think Tweety is racist. He talks incessantly about the “regular people” in Scranton—–but I think a lot of that is fed to him by Fineman—or maybe he and his producers are trying to create controversy and interest in the election—–but I’ve seen him moved to tears about Obama. He’s inconsistent, irritatingly so, but I don’t think anything that he spits out comes from any real racism.

not saying Chris is racist. but he’s done this type of “how dare they malign” white working class dudes before. When there was that meme that the OfA strategy this year was going to be to change their coalition by increasing number of young, hispanic, woman, etc voters. The headline all read tha OfA would be “ignoring the white working class”. Tweety was so affronted and he literally said I surely hope that they can’t just ignore working class whites, because they still needed them. to win.

If it involves the white working class i.e. the “Scranton” people Tweety grew up with and such…Tweety gets completely one sided.

An interesting take on Uncle Joe’s “apology”:

Whether he would have jumped on board without Vice President Joe Biden’s apparently unsolicited prod is unclear. While many have suggested that Biden’s unscripted remarks are simply another reminder of the Vice President’s celebrated penchant for exhibiting foot-in-mouth disease, I’m not so sure. Joe may have apologized to the President for his remarks, but I suspect that he is actually quite pleased with his verbal “misstep”. Indeed, as a longtime Washington insider who understands how the media game works, it is not unlikely that Joe’s remarks were calculated to both put Obama on the spot but also provide a modicum of political cover to allow the President to do what he wanted to do anyway. This is a reminder that even within the President’s own executive family, the President is rarely “in charge”; subordinates who have strong policy preferences are not shy about using the media, either directly or through indirect leaks, to make those preferences known, even when the President prefers otherwise. Similarly, aides may resist complying with presidential wishes, at least until directly pushed, and usually it takes more than one push to induce compliance. This is not insubordination – it is how the Washington game is played.

I still think this was all scripted: VPOTUS speaking out, giving POTUS the perfect opportunity to convey his views. And, really, the timing of the Romney bullying was too perfect for it to be coincidence.

I don’t know if Willard’s cleansing is going to do him any good IN THE LONG RUN.. More and more ‘purity Christian believers’ are speaking out.

Liberty U seems stricter than Brigham Young, but it’s only a matter of time …

“It’s repeatedly noted that the Code is in force at all times and places. University staff members even visit the residences of students who live off campus “in order to ensure compliance.” Students are also required to submit to drug tests at a time and method of the school’s choosing.

Engage in “horseplay?” That’s 4 reprimands and a $10.00 fine. Allow a member of the opposite sex to just set foot in your bedroom? That gets you 18 reprimands, a $250 fine, and 18 hours of disciplinary community service. Ditto for merely associating with someone who drinks alcohol. Guilty of “immorality” (which is not further defined)? That’ll be 30 reprimands, $500 fine, 30 hours of disciplinary community service, and possible expulsion. Decide to have an abortion? All of the above and you’ll almost certainly be expelled.

Talking Points Memo highlights one element of the code that Mitt Romney might be particularly fond of:

When Mitt Romney stands up at Liberty University Saturday to deliver the school’s commencement address, he’s unlikely to be faced with the kind of long, floppy hair that reportedly so angered him in high school. […]

According to a copy of the school handbook, “The Liberty Way”, shared with TPM by People for the American Way, the rules governing hair on Liberty’s campus are very strict. From the rules for men:

Hair and clothing styles related to a counterculture (as determined by the Student Affairs Deans’ Review Committee) are not acceptable. Hair should be cut in such a way that it will not come over the ears, collar or eyebrows at any time. Ponytails for men are unacceptable.

The BBC has a story about the Saudi King sacking a leading conservative adviser.

I only mention this to introduce the piece’s last paragraph:

Sheikh Obeikan achieved a degree of notoriety several years ago with a decree suggesting that unrelated Saudi men and women could mix so long as the man drank the woman’s breast milk, thus creating a maternal bond between them.

Vice President Joe Biden is going to hit the campaign trail in Ohio next week for a two-day tour to highlight the success of the auto-industry bailout.

Biden will be attending events in Youngstown and Martins Ferry next Wednesday and Thursday. The rescue of the U.S. auto industry is one of the central achievements pushed by President Obama’s reelection campaign.

“The Vice President will also draw a contrast with Governor Mitt Romney’s commitment to return to the same policies that created the economic crisis and put the economic security of the middle class – in Ohio and across the country – at risk,” the Obama campaign said in a release announcing the trip. “That’s why President Obama is running for re-election — to move our country forward because America cannot afford to go back.”

Ohio has received a lot of attention from the Obama-Biden camp. This will be at least the fourth visit to the state by Biden this year. The president has visited 23 times since taking office, including last weekend when he officially kicked off his campaign.

  57. May 11, 2012 at 8:34 pm

Former President George W. Bush’s pollster for his 2004 re-election, Jan van Lohuizen, has put out a memo to Republican operatives suggesting a shift in the way the GOP discusses same-sex marriage, a piece flagged by Jonathan Martin.

It notes what recent same-sex marriage surveys have found, which is a change in public support “at an accelerated rate with no sign of slowing down.”

It adds, “The increase in support is taking place among all partisan groups. While more Democrats support gay marriage than Republicans, support levels among Republicans are increasing over time.  The same is true of age: younger people support same sex marriage more often than older people, but the trends show that all age groups are rethinking their position.”

And it notes that people’s attitudes have moved within the GOP on whether to provide “basic legal” protections to gay people, with a proposed shift in language about understanding rights.

The full memo is after the jump.

I really enjoyed Eric’s segment on homophobia in the Black church. He was specifically addressing the pastors in the Black church who hide behind the bible while practicing various forms of bigotry. HE also pointed out that civil rights movement didn’t start with MLK but was practiced by Ghandi in India, and MLK took some elements of Ghandi’s activism and applied it to the Black Civil Rights’ movement. He said that Black Churches have never turned away gays and lesbians, have taken money from them and many of them are ushers, choir members, and even clergy members in the very church that preaches against their sexual orientation. Dyson called out certain known homophobic pastors by name (e.g., Roland, Jamal, Sophia etc) and warned that It’s time to broaden their perspective of equality and let everyone be free to be who they are and stop preaching hate. That’s not what the bible is about.

        May 11, 2012 at 9:21 pm

I understand that this is a divisive issue across all communities let alone black. And the fucking media is trying to paint this as only a black issue. And of course people have been calling out the bullshit of the media.

While the black community is definitely not the cause of SSM bans in many states (the sheer demography proves that point rather ridiculously easily), there is also a considerable anti SSM feeling in that community. So if bwd calls for that community to do a course reversal and be on the right side of the history, I don’t see what is wrong with her statement.

        • 266 L3
          May 11, 2012 at 9:38 pm

Maybe you don’t see what’s wrong with her statement because you are not black. In her tweet she did not say some blacks or a few blacks, she made a blanket statement in a most condescending way and that’s where she went wrong. Neither she nor anyone can tell a whole group of people what to think or how quickly to think it. Each person is responsible for reconciling their own feelings about SSM in their own time and not at a time of someone else’s choosing.

I don’ t plan to stay on this subject long cause it’s just rehash, but you said “there is also a considerable anti SSM feeling in that community”…please provide evidence other than conjecture and pollster who have their own agenda.

Secondly, a substantial number of the people who put all these propositions and ammendments have been white people and a substantial number of the voters who voted against gay marriage were white people..which means their is a MORE THAN CONSIDERABLE number of white people who are anti-SSM.

Also, who are you, BWD, or anyone else to “call” a WHOLE community of which you have only conjecture and MSM propaganda and NO REAL EVIDENCE to do anything. You ask people, you try your damndest to persuade people, but you don’t “call” them (which is not much better than ordering them) to do anything.

Don’t assume just cause u read it online, or saw in on a political program that is barely watched by 15% of the country that Black people are anti-gay or anti-SSM. If you assume that the Black community is anti-gay, then you are also less likely to actually go into the community and at the very least try to change minds through talking, discussing and working towards understanding and tolerance.

You sure as heck don’t demand it just ’cause you say and you don’t condescend to them.

      May 11, 2012 at 9:15 pm

You have the Librul Media to thank for this.

It started with a tweet about AAs being against LGBT rights. Some people got upset, some more than others. I did object to BWD’s initial tweet and told her that the focus on AAs by the MSM is divisive and urged her to not buy into the MSM memes. I told her that I felt the media was engaging in racial scapegoating and pretty much what I’ve been saying all along. But there are some others on Twitter who are very angry with her and feel like they’ve been betrayed.

I think she’s frustrated with the whole situation – and I can understand esp. if she has close friends and family in the LGBT community, but unfortunately I feel that her frustration is somewhat misdirected. She probably sees it differently. I’ve said the same thing to another fellow TOder on Twitter – AAMom, who I chastised aggressively on Twitter after she tweeted that PBO was “waffling” on SSM because of Black people without any data to substantiate her claims. I fine with AAMom. I just happen to disagree strongly with her position on that particular issue. Same for BWD. Have no personal problems with her, and while I do agree that the homophobia in the Black church needs to be addressed, that is not an excuse to singularly blame the Black community when antigay ballot initiatives are upheld.

But my problem is NOT with BWD as it is with the media who’s trying to drive wedges among PBO supporters and to some degree succeeding.

      • 272 L3
        May 11, 2012 at 9:33 pm

Also, I’m sure PBO is smart enough to know that at least 90% of black voters will vote for him or any Democrat regardless of their position on SSM. Also, please do not think that PBO’s support of SSM will have change the minds of those blacks who do not support it. It won’t.

People who don’t know any black people personally are missing how sophisticated we can be with our votes and support. I remember when W. was trying to persuade the country to invade Iraq poll after poll revealed black people consistently and overwhelmingly did not buy what he was selling on Iraq when most of the rest of the country fell for his lies. Of all groups we were the most skeptical. It was also our unwavering support of that womanizer Bill Clinton during the Lewinsky scandal that helped to keep him in office. We agreed he was wrong, but did not believe he deserved to be impeached. We’ve been mistreated worse than any other group in this country excluding the American Indians but we’ve survived by using our common sense. We are usually pretty good at reading a situation and we don’t suffer fools.

And yes, bwd is passionate about SSM that she even righteously called PBO to evolve already. Many including me chided her about that call. My mother and people her age, 70 and up who believe it is against the bible, would not vote against the first AA president. This has been an exciting historic week…..and rather exhausting emotionally…..but very good, if you’re an Obama follower. These silly little Friday stories…..Biden vs PBO, etc…..will fade away like so many other kerfuffles. Indeed, have you noticed that all these made-up controversies which try to demean the President turn to dust and nothing? He always comes out smelling like a rose, and the silly antagonists fade away. I used to get upset at each one of these, but I don’t now. He and his staff take even the unexpected and turn it to their good.
We have good, honest people on our side, with the desire and will to do good, not harm. Romney’s side is built on hate and lying, and in the long run….which is where PBO looks….those people fail. In my long life, I’ve never seen such a poor candidate and such a liar as Romney.

Give your blessings and your thanksgivings. When we now see more and more SS men and women around POTUS. we give thanks. That is a good sign. Meaning, if they have more information than we do, which they do, at least we are blessed to see that we have the proper resources to be there with POB and FLOTUS. “That is a praise time for us.” Light your candles while grilling in this beatiful weather just for POB and FLOTUS. Sip on your favorite tea, coffee, or a nice smooth glass of wine or Ginger Ale. Put on some music in honor and thanksgiving for such a beautiful and briilland leader. Choose some of the music of POB and FLOTUS.

Say a prayer of your choosing. Read a beautiful line of assurance for POB from one of your favorite books or poems. Cover your spirit with good, positive, beautiful, calmning thoughts and actions that will take some of the edge off of what we All have gone through this week. Clear out your spirits. Clean out the utter ugly words that we have read, or heard all week about our beautiful president with something natural and beautiful. Bring into your spaces a rose, or a bunch of cut flowers from your garden. Laugh a little about something that was funny about what POTUS said this week.

Dream a little about how wonderful he was representing each of us who donated or not for the lovely dinner last night at Mr.Clooney’s home last evening. It was a love evening on the West Coast. Read a few pages from his books to remind you of who he is and what he stands for in our nation. Pull out some beautiful magazines and read about some of the beautiful times that brought us to the Oval Office.

Look at Malia and Sasha hugging and holding his hand while sharing those beautiful smiles. Fill your minds and hearts with the many beautiful and blessed things that we see about him and FLOTUS. Give thanks for our First Grandma being there for them. Look at a fun picture of when we first saw Bo. Fill your mind with love, beauty, our family here, Chips, and all that we have.

Do not allow anyone or anything to steal our joy. Not Now. No, we do not know all things, but we do know the things that we All have come through to get to this point. Feast on these things, and when we get down, go back to the table that you have set in your space and drink the sweet waters of nourishment that we all have enjoyed. We are going to be fine. We will trust, have faith, cry when we need to , but most of all Pray loud, and hard for the Best. There is a Divine Power within all of us, so let us draw from it, and give thanks and praise when it gets so hard to move forward. But FORWARD We Must Move. ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( I love you all so very, very much))))))))))))))))))))))))))))HZ
