Heads Up: Burt Bacharach & Hal David at the White House

7:15 ET: The President and the First Lady host a concert honoring songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David as part of “In Performance at the White House” series; the President delivers remarks.

White House live

CNN live streaming

CBS live streaming

It says here that the concert will be streamed live at the White House site, but it’s still not listed there.

CNN have it in their live streaming schedule, but they have a habit of not actually showing what’s in their schedule

So I actually have no clue whether we’ll see the concert 😕

****

I’ll catch up with the day’s news in the next post, after the concert.

You can sign the thank you card at All Out

I posted this in the previous thread. I really want to get this out there, so I’m reposting:

Oh, saw this and thought it was interesting: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/politics/2012-election-predictor/ It also talks briefly about some of the issues previous incumbents faced when they lost. The economy is stronger than it has been in years. We’re safer than we have been in years. Despite the shit PBO has faced from assholes in Congress, he’s done a remarkable job. He is one of the best, strongest, smartest Presidents we have ever seen. Stop worrying about what the MSM (that no one is watching anyway — look at their ratings) is saying and let’s work to GOTV this November. We are facing challenges at the polls with access for ALL PEOPLE. We need to help them get IDs, show them where their new polling place is and drive them if need be. The issue we are facing is less public opinion and more modern day poll tax.

Now I must stop playing on the interwebz and go make dinner.

Now it’s time for Anderson Cooper to show some courage & come out openly as a Gay Man. We need the momentum going. “Keeping them Honest”

Is it really time for A. Cooper to come out? I really don’t care if Cooper is gay or not. Let him or anyone else live their lives the way they choose.

I understand…. but why? What does anyone’s sexuality have to do with their job? Nothing. If he feels like it, fine, but I don’t think anyone should be outed or pressured.

It will be interesting to see what happens, and who feels the need to speak out, especially here in Hollywood.

        May 9, 2012 at 7:17 pm

Anderson Cooper has been beating the drum forcing PBO to come out in support of Gay marriage. This doesn’t have to do with his sexuality it has to do with him wanting the President to speak up yet he does the opposite. Ellen did so much to make people aware that Gays can be Great TV hosts.

Hi PJ, how are you doing? I magnanimously grant CC all the time she needs for reflection, though I have to admit that I tried to sweeten the pot by reminding her yesterday that the fine print in OUR marriage certificate left no loophole for a change of heart no matter the provocation. 😉

BTW I wasn’t sure you’d still remember little old me after hobnobbing with the great Os. Are your feet back on the ground yet? Personal thanks for your BOTG report! I don’t know why it should be so, but I always feel like I was there when TODobots share their experience of being close to The One & Only – in your case – The Two & Onlies! 😉 😉

PJ, we sure got ‘lucky’ in our choice of president during this political period and I feel so blessed to be alive to participate in the change that is unfolding step by step, under the hand of a gifted and caring leader. I will never look at politicians in the same way again!

I was at work when the news broke about Pres.Obama’s declaration so I couldn’t comment much. Let me tell you, I was sitting in the train thinking about it and my eyes were getting all watery. I am so very proud of Pres.Obama today. Very proud. My opinion hasn’t changed on whether he should have announced or not but he just makes me swell with pride. I don’t really think it will hurt him, but if it does he’ll have time to recover and its not an illogical position to have so he won’t have a hard time explaining his beliefs.

I’m also happy to learn that people are sending him money. I was worried that a lot of folks wouldn’t have his back after the announcements. Very proud.

And F.U. Log Cabin Republicans. Chicken shits.

Joe B. got in troub for mentioning the TV show, Will and Grace, and how that had changed minds. But as I’ve said before, Ellen has done as much as anyone in changing minds and helping people to “evolve”. She took the “scary” out of being gay, and she is so beloved by her chunk of Americana audiences. She’s brought them along on her journey, and they’re with her and are huge fans. This was a moving moment with her statement and the standing O.

Republicans and Democrats in the House offered a rare glimpse of bipartisan cooperation on Wednesday by overwhelmingly approving legislation to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank.

But 93 Republicans voted against the legislation, highlighting conservative angst about the issue. Opponents included Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), the author of the House GOP budget and a conservative seen as a leading contender to be the party’s vice presidential candidate.

The margin, 330-93, easily met the requirement that the measure win two-thirds support in the House, which was necessary because the legislation was brought up under the suspension of House rules.

The Securing American Jobs Through Exports Act extends the bank’s charter through fiscal 2014.

Exactly. Why can’t people just live and let live? I have never understood how some gay couple down the street is going to affect my marriage in any way. (other than when they bring over a pitcher of margharitas and then they make my marriage more delicious and fun!) No one is forcing anyone to get gay married, right? If you don’t want to be gay married, don’t do it. But leave those other people alone, because who cares? Mind your own beeswax.

Republicans seek to unify base over obamas same sex marriage announcement

CBS News) Christian conservatives and other Republicans are hoping President Obama’s announcement Wednesday in support of same-sex marriage will unify Republican voters around presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

Tony Perkins, president of the conservative Family Research Council, said “today’s announcement almost ensures that marriage will again be a major issue in the presidential election.”

He added: “The President has provided a clear contrast between him and his challenger Mitt Romney. Romney, who has signed a pledge to support a marriage protection amendment to the U.S. Constitution, may have been handed the key to social conservative support by President Obama.”

Conservative Ralph Reed, head of the Faith & Freedom Coalition, said the president’s decision will further excite the base.

“This is an unanticipated gift to the Romney campaign. It is certain to fuel a record turnout of voters of faith to the polls this November,” Reed said.

And Maggie Gallagher, co-founder of the National Organization for Marriage and director of the Culture War Victory Fund, said, “Marriage is a winning issue for the GOP.”

“We now have clear choice between Romney and Obama, and we look forward to demonstrating in November that it’s a bad idea for a national candidate to support gay marriage,” Gallagher said.

A very interesting take from Ron Brownstein, whom I’ve always liked from his time at the L.A. Times.

President Obama’s endorsement of gay marriage undoubtedly reflects a personal evolution in his thinking, as he’s said.

But his decision also reflects a hard-headed acknowledgement of the changing nature of the Democratic electoral coalition. Indeed, historians may someday view Obama’s announcement Wednesday as a milestone in the evolution of his party’s political strategy, because it shows the president and his campaign team are increasingly comfortable responding to the actual coalition that elects Democrats today-not the one that many in the party remember from their youth.

How Robin Roberts Landed The Obama Interview
    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________

The White House called ABC News on Tuesday to ask about Robin Roberts’ schedule. The Good Morning America co-host works a pre-dawn to midday schedule during the week as part of the usual network morning show routine. But the White House wanted something far from routine: a sitdown interview between her and the President the next day. The questions would be of her choosing, but everyone knew the focus would be same-sex marriage.

“It doesn’t take a huge leap to figure it out,” a source at ABC told TPM.

Roberts, a 51-year-old former sports reporter who came to ABC from sister network ESPN in 1995, was a natural choice by the White House. She had already interviewed Obama a handful of times, including his first interview after his 2009 inauguration.

“Robin is a very thoughtful interviewer, whose style is perhaps more conversational than confrontational, but she sure makes a lot of news with that approach,” said Jeffrey Schneider, senior vice president of communications at ABC News, in a phone interview with TPM.

A big challenge for ABC was preventing the substance of the interview from leaking so that it could preserve its exclusive. In the 24/7 news multiverse, it is rare for a broadcast network to hold all the cards on a story any more, and ABC was determined to keep them close to the vest. No one at ABC was explicitly told not to tweet about the interview, but they were “reminded that not until something is out can we tweet about it,” the network source said.

    http://www.thegrio.com/politics/twitter-reacts-to-obamas-support-for-gay-marriage.php

    My three faves:

From House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi:
A great day in our fight for civil rights – President Obama adds his support for marriage #equality. #Beautiful Day.

    From (Future President-Elect) Cory Booker:
Historic day for justice and equality. Our United States President Obama endorses marriage equality. I rejoice in this announcement.

From RuPaul (fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race will appreciate):
    @BarackObama…shantay, you stay!!

There is a huge storm up there right now. Baltimore v Texas game was just postponed. Not sure if that may be an issue in DC.

Hope everyone is keeping their eyes on the prize.
