7:15 ET: The President and the First Lady host a concert honoring songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David as part of “In Performance at the White House” series; the President delivers remarks.
It says here that the concert will be streamed live at the White House site, but it’s still not listed there.
CNN have it in their live streaming schedule, but they have a habit of not actually showing what’s in their schedule
So I actually have no clue whether we’ll see the concert 😕
****
I’ll catch up with the day’s news in the next post, after the concert.

You can sign the thank you card at All Out
(Thanks Loriah)
I don’t know who these people are but I know they are going to rock!
Oh dang! You beat me!
You should Goole Burt. Chances are, if there’s a song stuck in your head, he wrote it. P.S. Congrats on first!
Thanks and will do.
Elvis Costello did an album with him that was one of my favorite albums of the 90s.
Hey better luck next time!
Sorry for taking so long Proud, I’m way behind with everything today!
OMG, this is so adorable.! Never saw this one before.
Chips, you are THE BEST!!!
This is a beautiful picture. Just melts my heart.
Thanks
I love this photo. He’s so patient and loving, showing that little girl that her voice is important to him. What a special moment–can’t imagine any other president doing this.
Bacharach wrote all Dionne Warwick’s hit songs—–and more. 2 great songwriters, 100;s of songs which have stood the test of time. I always think about that when I hear some of the current stuff—–will that be around 50 years from now? Nope.
You don’t know who Burt Bacharach is!!!!!! You are so young.
First?
Next time!
1st!
CBS live feed also has it listed:

Thanks Sharon, I’ll add that to the post.
Chips you know what to do!
I posted this in the previous thread. I really want to get this out there, so I’m reposting:
Oh, saw this and thought it was interesting: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/politics/2012-election-predictor/ It also talks briefly about some of the issues previous incumbents faced when they lost. The economy is stronger than it has been in years. We’re safer than we have been in years. Despite the shit PBO has faced from assholes in Congress, he’s done a remarkable job. He is one of the best, strongest, smartest Presidents we have ever seen. Stop worrying about what the MSM (that no one is watching anyway — look at their ratings) is saying and let’s work to GOTV this November. We are facing challenges at the polls with access for ALL PEOPLE. We need to help them get IDs, show them where their new polling place is and drive them if need be. The issue we are facing is less public opinion and more modern day poll tax.
Now I must stop playing on the interwebz and go make dinner.
YES!! People are being made to pay to register to vote. We have a lot to overcome and we can’t stop until every potential voter can vote.
Now it’s time for Anderson Cooper to show some courage & come out openly as a Gay Man. We need the momentum going. “Keeping them Honest”
Is it really time for A. Cooper to come out? I really don’t care if Cooper is gay or not. Let him or anyone else live their lives the way they choose.
This.
That makes three of us.
He went after the President on his show the other night.
LOL!! THAT would certainly be momentous.
I understand…. but why? What does anyone’s sexuality have to do with their job? Nothing. If he feels like it, fine, but I don’t think anyone should be outed or pressured.
It will be interesting to see what happens, and who feels the need to speak out, especially here in Hollywood.
Anderson Cooper has been beating the drum forcing PBO to come out in support of Gay marriage. This doesn’t have to do with his sexuality it has to do with him wanting the President to speak up yet he does the opposite. Ellen did so much to make people aware that Gays can be Great TV hosts.
ugh, forgot to uncheck the notify box. Damn you WordPress!!
A great story to restore your faith in humanity and make you smile…
I am NOT going to watch that. I’m verklempt right now as it is, and I have no desire to bawl like a little schoolboy.
But it will be in a good HAPPY way. 😀
I LOVE their music. Love all the stuff Burt did with his muse, Dionne Warwick.
‘I’ll catch up with the day’s news in the next post, after the concert.’
Okay Chips, ‘fess up! How many candles are you burning at both ends? And are you aware that you are undermining the Pres’ energy goal, i.e using less energy?
[Sigh! Happy to have glimpsed your back as you rushed out the village gate!] **raised voice** Hope you enjoy the concert!
You’re so cute, VC :-D.
I have a feeling Chips may be trying to collect her thoughts. This issue almost made Chips throw in the towel, bless her heart. I look forward to her recap. I’m sure it will be heartfelt.
Hi PJ, how are you doing? I magnanimously grant CC all the time she needs for reflection, though I have to admit that I tried to sweeten the pot by reminding her yesterday that the fine print in OUR marriage certificate left no loophole for a change of heart no matter the provocation. 😉
BTW I wasn’t sure you’d still remember little old me after hobnobbing with the great Os. Are your feet back on the ground yet? Personal thanks for your BOTG report! I don’t know why it should be so, but I always feel like I was there when TODobots share their experience of being close to The One & Only – in your case – The Two & Onlies! 😉 😉
PJ, we sure got ‘lucky’ in our choice of president during this political period and I feel so blessed to be alive to participate in the change that is unfolding step by step, under the hand of a gifted and caring leader. I will never look at politicians in the same way again!
I’m well, VC, thank you! ♥ ♥ ♥
I’m still buzzing from the rally, but it wasn’t close enough, wahhhhhh! I’ve got to win one of these contests or something!
I’m with you — we are living in a great time and I’m glad to be witness history in the making. President Obama has spoiled us for good and whoever comes behind him in 2016 will have BIG shoes to fill!

And that was just on Diane Sawyers Show.
Can’t wait to hear them introduce POTUS and FLOTUS. I think they will bring the house down.
I’m not seeing the program anywhere! 😦
Me neither.
I was at work when the news broke about Pres.Obama’s declaration so I couldn’t comment much. Let me tell you, I was sitting in the train thinking about it and my eyes were getting all watery. I am so very proud of Pres.Obama today. Very proud. My opinion hasn’t changed on whether he should have announced or not but he just makes me swell with pride. I don’t really think it will hurt him, but if it does he’ll have time to recover and its not an illogical position to have so he won’t have a hard time explaining his beliefs.
I’m also happy to learn that people are sending him money. I was worried that a lot of folks wouldn’t have his back after the announcements. Very proud.
And F.U. Log Cabin Republicans. Chicken shits.
Love you, guys. Just so you’d know. And Chip, you already know.
This is an amazing day, I just walk with a stupid smile. My beautiful man did what I knew he’ll do. Because he is Barack Obama, and he’s unlike anyone we’ve ever seen. #forward
Love you back BWD! Also love this tweet 🙂
Would you be referring to this? From back BEFORE he was President! 😀
“Damn you Barack Obama! You courageous, intelligent, impressive, distinguished, pretty… mofo!”
Dudette, anyone who knows me know that I hate, hate, HATE “spoken word” with the heat of a thousand suns.
I LOVE THIS CLIP. I saw it back around Thanksgiving of 2007. I NEVER FORGOT IT!!! It’s perfect. I’ve listened to it a zillion times. When he compliments him and then calls him a punk, it’s just hilarious. Darian hits all the things that I feel about Pres. Obama. This is truly the only “spoken word” performance that I have ever liked. EVER!
I too have listened to this one a gabillion times. LOVE IT!
hahaha I love it
No self-exile allowed, BWD.
((((((((((blackwaterdog))))))))))
You deserve to be esctatic today. ENJOY! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Love you BWD. He is Barack Obama, a man for all time.
When I heard the news you popped right in to my head BWD. It’s a beautiful day!!!!
There is alwasy something there to remind me…{woah woah woah woah woah woah woah woah…sorry, I may have miscounted my “woah”s, but you get the idea)
I swear to God, if I make it through today without crying it’ll be a miracle. Read the comments here: http://www.allout.org/en/actions/thanksobama. His actions reach across borders.
LL – this 64 y/o white straight and married for 42 yrs male dude has been balling his eyes out … all my gay friends and family members now know they have a President who cares deeply for each of them, irrespective of the political cost (and they’re all exceptionally well informed so they know, truly, how much he put on the line today).
#PRESSON
I’ve signed — and keep returning to read the posts and watch the flags scroll by. Absolutely amazing.
I can imagine some of the panel who selected PBO for the Nobel Peace Prize nodding their heads, thinking “Yes. We knew it.”
Beautiful.
Joe B. got in troub for mentioning the TV show, Will and Grace, and how that had changed minds. But as I’ve said before, Ellen has done as much as anyone in changing minds and helping people to “evolve”. She took the “scary” out of being gay, and she is so beloved by her chunk of Americana audiences. She’s brought them along on her journey, and they’re with her and are huge fans. This was a moving moment with her statement and the standing O.
Awwww…I’m gonna cry.
Okay, I wasn’t going to cry, but now…fine.
That made me cry.
Can’t find the show on any active live streams yet, but here’s the PBS page with previous In Performance at the White House videos and a 30-second promo about tonight’s performance that will air on PBS May 21st.

Anyone getting anything on the feeds yet for the concert??
Nada…..It is not even listed on TeaNN.
Wow, that is so powerful. Ellen looks like she’s just shaking.
That’s was sooo SWEEEEET! Thank you, carolyn!~
I tried every link….
Nothing…….
I’m hoping perhaps he’s just delayed……His phone must be ringing off the hook.
I’m not getting any feed anywhere. ARGHHHHHHH.
I was so looking forward till this, and I am really, really, really, disappointed.
well I don’t seem to be getting it anywhere.
I’m seeing so many in entertainment show up on twitter to thank PBO. It’s so heartening and gratifying.
Exactly, Milt——the best I’ve seen in my lifetime too.
Republicans and Democrats in the House offered a rare glimpse of bipartisan cooperation on Wednesday by overwhelmingly approving legislation to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank.
But 93 Republicans voted against the legislation, highlighting conservative angst about the issue. Opponents included Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), the author of the House GOP budget and a conservative seen as a leading contender to be the party’s vice presidential candidate.
The margin, 330-93, easily met the requirement that the measure win two-thirds support in the House, which was necessary because the legislation was brought up under the suspension of House rules.
The Securing American Jobs Through Exports Act extends the bank’s charter through fiscal 2014.

Well, well, well…
Finally!!
I think that no tax dollars are involved with this…maybe that is why is passed so easily.?
The tax dollars are refunded, competent system!
oh no..where’s the live feed ?? hopefully they are just running behind..
Exactly. Why can’t people just live and let live? I have never understood how some gay couple down the street is going to affect my marriage in any way. (other than when they bring over a pitcher of margharitas and then they make my marriage more delicious and fun!) No one is forcing anyone to get gay married, right? If you don’t want to be gay married, don’t do it. But leave those other people alone, because who cares? Mind your own beeswax.
Republicans seek to unify base over obamas same sex marriage announcement
CBS News) Christian conservatives and other Republicans are hoping President Obama’s announcement Wednesday in support of same-sex marriage will unify Republican voters around presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney.
Tony Perkins, president of the conservative Family Research Council, said “today’s announcement almost ensures that marriage will again be a major issue in the presidential election.”
He added: “The President has provided a clear contrast between him and his challenger Mitt Romney. Romney, who has signed a pledge to support a marriage protection amendment to the U.S. Constitution, may have been handed the key to social conservative support by President Obama.”
Conservative Ralph Reed, head of the Faith & Freedom Coalition, said the president’s decision will further excite the base.
“This is an unanticipated gift to the Romney campaign. It is certain to fuel a record turnout of voters of faith to the polls this November,” Reed said.
And Maggie Gallagher, co-founder of the National Organization for Marriage and director of the Culture War Victory Fund, said, “Marriage is a winning issue for the GOP.”
“We now have clear choice between Romney and Obama, and we look forward to demonstrating in November that it’s a bad idea for a national candidate to support gay marriage,” Gallagher said.

Every one of them are in the closet.,,IMO
LOL! I don’t doubt it, Linda.
Well, this statement wasn’t without risk, and I’m sure the GOP will beat the issue dead from here to November. In the end, I think they’ll end up overreaching, as usual. 🙄
Yes—-that party is loaded with anti-gay gays.
Memo to the rightwing: Your overlord Dick Cheney also supports same sex marriage. You want to play ugly? BRING IT ON. Pres. Obama is no Santorum, Gingrich, or the rest of the band of moronic clowns. Romney is in the big leagues now and we don’t suffer fools lightly.
I’m thinking the same thing..it’s going to be a bit awkward firing up the base when Cindy McCain, Meghan McCain, Jenna Bush, and Dick Cheney have all come out in support of SSM!!
I knew this was coming. I already can imagine the ads Karl Rove is about to start running.
Let him. They are going to put their bigotry on display and on 6 Nov 2012 they will have motivated more Americans to vote than in any past election and they are going to be voting overwhelmingly for President Barack Obama and Dems.

Another pledge signed? Republicans seem overly eager to sign pledges with everyone except with the electorate!
Someone should tell Ms Gallagher that we have always had ‘clear choice between Romney and Obama’ and it has more to do with character, fairness, and integrity than with ‘gay marriage’.
Decided to do it myself as her comment ticked me off.
These guys have no real interests in PEOPLE, only in winning issues.

Wow!! Pow!!
Amazing! Just Amazing!
Bang! Zoom! To the Moon, Mitt!
FREAKIN’ WOW!!!
Yes ma’am, I did, right away! No hesitations, none at all!
I will tomorrow! And I’m doing data entry for an “I’m In” phone bank. That should be more than interesting.

A very interesting take from Ron Brownstein, whom I’ve always liked from his time at the L.A. Times.

Joe Manchin must be plotzing right now. Heh.
Never doubt this President’s ability to take what could be seen as a problem and turn it into gold.

He hangs out with Rhiana!
We’re gonna win in November. I’ve been nervous these past few weeks, but I feel more confident now than ever that we’re going to win reelection and show the world, and this country, that bigotry won’t stand – that hate won’t stand.
Thanks to everyone who’s pitched in. Lets keep it up! 😉

done.
Some thank you notes ….
This is truly a Great Day for ALL Americans …

What happened to the concert??
Yeah I’m not sure what happened. There was some bad weather earlier – maybe someone important got delayed?
My President brought tears to my eyes. Good tears. So proud of him. Yes we are moving FORWARD.
How Robin Roberts Landed The Obama Interview
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
The White House called ABC News on Tuesday to ask about Robin Roberts’ schedule. The Good Morning America co-host works a pre-dawn to midday schedule during the week as part of the usual network morning show routine. But the White House wanted something far from routine: a sitdown interview between her and the President the next day. The questions would be of her choosing, but everyone knew the focus would be same-sex marriage.
“It doesn’t take a huge leap to figure it out,” a source at ABC told TPM.
Roberts, a 51-year-old former sports reporter who came to ABC from sister network ESPN in 1995, was a natural choice by the White House. She had already interviewed Obama a handful of times, including his first interview after his 2009 inauguration.
“Robin is a very thoughtful interviewer, whose style is perhaps more conversational than confrontational, but she sure makes a lot of news with that approach,” said Jeffrey Schneider, senior vice president of communications at ABC News, in a phone interview with TPM.
A big challenge for ABC was preventing the substance of the interview from leaking so that it could preserve its exclusive. In the 24/7 news multiverse, it is rare for a broadcast network to hold all the cards on a story any more, and ABC was determined to keep them close to the vest. No one at ABC was explicitly told not to tweet about the interview, but they were “reminded that not until something is out can we tweet about it,” the network source said.

I like Robin.
An HU alum. Her parents met there.
Wonder what happened to the WH festivities—-nothing about it on twitter either. No reporters there?
where is everyone?
Pres. Obama stole the headlines today.
He didn’t steal them. When MY President speaks, he OWNS the headlines!! 😎
FORWARD!!
This is music to my ears. I hope they got that guy who designs the bombs.
How come gossipy Mark Knoller has no news about why the homage to Burt Bacharach and Hal David isn’t being aired?
I’m not sure what’s the deal. I tweeted both him and upChuckTodd but got no response. Yet just over an hr ago, Chuck Todd had tweeted that he was in the NBCWH booth humming bacharach’s songs.
One more thing to add to this already amazing record of PBO on equality.

My three faves:
From House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi:
A great day in our fight for civil rights – President Obama adds his support for marriage #equality. #Beautiful Day.
From (Future President-Elect) Cory Booker:
Historic day for justice and equality. Our United States President Obama endorses marriage equality. I rejoice in this announcement.
From RuPaul (fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race will appreciate):
@BarackObama…shantay, you stay!!
New post everyone:

There is a huge storm up there right now. Baltimore v Texas game was just postponed. Not sure if that may be an issue in DC.
Waaah, NO PARTY?? Oh well, there’s plenty of stuff I really need to be doing anyway. Peace out, y’all.
Hope everyone is keeping their eyes on the prize.
Yep, you bet we have our eyes on you! 😉
