Watching the President, I think, how can ANYONE hate this man? He’s compassionate and respectful, and yet we have people who believe he’s either a Marxist Communist Muslim dog eating Kenyan, or a right wing corporatist warmongering Nixon Republican continuing Bush policies. We have to prove these people WRONG in November.

    FORWARD 2012!!!!

Thanks LL. It’s just fun for me …. fact is, Tweetdeck is one of several applications and browser tabs open on my monitors and when I’m on a boring conference call or need a break from the super-demanding ‘day job’ of creating our new company, I challenge myself to think of something in less than a min and then Tweet it. Great way to keep my aging neurons agile 🙂

Hi Liberal, I sent your post from people’s view to my cousin who was confused, (about a lot of stuff) and referred her to other links TOD family sent me. I also spoke to her Dad & Mom who is solid PBO. We had a laugh after I told him what his dauighter was thinking, he then said oh don’t wory about her she always goes with us. Anyway, it doesn’t hurt to provide info. to my cousin then she can facebook her friends/contacts as that age group, were all PBO in 08 and seems to be confused. I have to send an article about the attack on their bodies if they haven’t heard yet.

The right wing says POTUS has NO RECORD OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS, and yet I hear and see him mentioning his record of accomplishments.

I do notice he didn’t mention the bin Laden raid success, and I’m wondering if that’s because he’s speaking to a specific community (Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and issues that are specific to that community).

Hi sherijr, I met some people from Williston ND today. They seemed like nice folks. We didn’t talk politics though.

      • 23 sherijr
        May 8, 2012 at 7:11 pm

wow, where’d you meet them? I’ll say this, folks here are generally ‘friendly’.. and they do keep their politics pretty private. but they also have some backward notions.. and I sincerely believe they are shadowed by race.. influenced by Rush Limbaugh and his ilk.. etc.

        • May 8, 2012 at 7:32 pm

yeah, I kinda picked up on not going political. They were visiting Chicago as life long bulls fans and had tickets to see the game. They were parents of my #1 daughter’s friend. She’s thinking of relocating there for a great business opportunity 😦

          • 25 sherijr
            May 8, 2012 at 7:38 pm

Your daughter will be fine.. folks here for the most part mind their own business. First off the harsh winter keeps them mostly indoors 🙂 they however have a knack for being polite, folksy in your face.. and unkind behind one’s back.. which is something to be mindful of. There is also a sturdy ignorance, uneducated mass here.. and they appear to like it that way. On the other hand there is almost zero violent crime and very little of any crime.. its quiet, its clean… and there absolutely nothing to do 😉 I wish her well.. I hope she has a place to stay- as housing is at pretty much nothing.. houses not yet built are already sold.. and rent is very very high… many people have been living in campers.

          • 26 sherijr
            May 8, 2012 at 7:40 pm

also there is quite a bit of sexism here.. so just prepare her for that too.

            • May 8, 2012 at 8:01 pm

Thanks, she’s staying with the friend for now for 2-3 weeks at a time. My hope is that once she gets her thing off the ground, she can manage it from here and go there for a lesser amount of time. She did tell me about the housing situation, the schools, the Native American situation, the bison in the road, and the weather. Her friend and parents were very folksy, but I knew any state that would go for Santorum would probably not be to eager to hear my political views. I’m still hoping she won’t make it permanent.

I have seen a lot of wild deer along the road, and one time watched to beautiful young moose gallop down the road.. so theres that 😉 I hope all goes well for her.. there is a lot of money to be made here right now, so why not take the opportunity. I wish her much good luck.

OMG! Tally, Hopefruit, AnotherSlyFox, and the rest of TOD who took the same positions as the previously mentioned individuals. Chris Matthews ‘Let Me Finish’ segment was just a rehashing of our comments about PBO and same sex marriage.

Chris just said everyone needs to be patient and that if PBO loses how does it advance LGBT issues, causes, and rights? That a Romney Presidency will be so anti-LGBT rights. That Romney has funded anti-LGBT organizations. He said he trusts PBO on this issue because maybe PBO has looked at the political landscape and decided that it will harm Democrats and himself in the election if he comes out in favor of same sex marriage. That he has been very good in terms of promoting LGBT rights & causes. That he may have looked at the environment in NC, PA, OH, VA – crucial states PBO and Democrats need to win in November – and decided Democrats need to win and then more LGBT causes can be advanced.

My jaw just about dropped to the floor. Chris wasn’t freaking out at all. He said this is manufactured controversy and he trust PBO whatever decision he comes to, because he, Chris; is just a political commentator whereas PBO is a very smart, intelligent, and gifted individual and politician.

    Wow. Just wow.

word of caution…don’t let him play with you. he’s played this same game for years where he tries to get both sides to think, “gee, he can be reasonable sometimes. he’s not so bad.” make no mistake, when push comes to shove, matthews will always side with the republican side. he was one of the first to bring the birth certificate insanity to the msm and continued to fan those flames in a big way. there’s a reason he keeps his job for all these years no matter what outrageous things he does, and it’s certainly not his ratings, since he would’ve been fired years ago then. the billion-owners like having people like him in there who won’t rock their boats.

The latest Investor’s Business Daily/Christian Science Monitor/TIPP poll has Obama leading Romney among Hispanic voters by a 68 point margin, beating the former Massachusetts governor 80 percent to 12 percent. A second PPP poll, commissioned by the liberal blog Daily Kos and the SEIU union, shows Obama beating Romney 72 percent to 22 percent — a 50 point margin.

Breaking- President Obama infiltrates Al Qaeda- Bomber was double agent-gives info leading to deaths of Al Qaeda operatives in Yemen

This is what a real national security President does:
Bomber in Plot on U.S. Airliner Said to Be a Double Agent

WASHINGTON – The would-be suicide bomber dispatched by the Al Qaeda branch in Yemen last month to blow up a United States-bound airliner was actually a double agent who infiltrated the terrorist group and volunteered for the suicide mission, American and foreign officials said on Tuesday.
In an extraordinary intelligence coup, the agent left Yemen, traveling by way of the United Arab Emirates, and delivered both the innovative bomb designed for his aviation attack and critical information on the group’s leaders to the C.I.A., Saudi and other foreign intelligence agencies.
After spending weeks at the center of the terrorist network’s most dangerous affiliate, Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the agent provided critical information that permitted the C.I.A. to direct the drone strike on Sunday that killed Fahd Mohammed Ahmed al-Quso, the group’s external operations director and a suspect in the bombing of the destroyer Cole in Yemen in 2000.

As long as Mitt Romney publicly claims credit for the auto industry’s recovery, he’s going to put his fellow Republicans on Capitol Hill in an awkward position. Nearly all of them have attacked the Obama administration’s bailout in exceptionally harsh terms, despite the fact that the administration’s actions are widely understood to have saved the industry.

In the Capitol on Tuesday, two Senate Republicans struggled to respond.

“Romney said that he was responsible for the auto bailout?” asked Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in disbelief, unaware that Romney had told a local affiliate in Ohio he should be credited for having saved the industry. “I’d have to look at the context of his remarks. I know that if the auto companies had gone into bankruptcy like thousands of small businesses had to do across America, they could’ve emerged without the sweetheart deal for the unions like was orchestrated by the Obama administration.”

    Dear TOD Family,

I’ve stayed out of the fray today, first of all because I’m just recovering from being sick and I’m still a little loopy and secondly, because some of you have stated my feelings perfectly and there was no need to add anything.

But the thing that really disturbs me is the feeling of de’jevu (sp) that I got when all of this was going on. During the last campaign, had to leave the Obama board because all the hair on fire, wimping and whining, hand-wringing complaining, fighting, etc. A place that left me feeling happy, encouraged and fired up, became a place that left me feeling depressed and then asking myself “What the fuck is wrong with these people?”

It would break my heart if I had stop coming here. It wouldn’t lessen my support for the President one bit, but it certainly would make it a lot lonelier. Please y’all, don’t let them do this to us! The President needs us, more than ever. We must stay united. The alternative is too damn scary. I Love You All.

Every time I see POTUS, I see how much Malia looks like her father. I wonder if Malia is more like her father or mother. I think of the story Michelle told when Barack drove them home from the hospital, how slow and careful he was driving.

Lugar, Arlen Spector, and host of veteran and elder statesmen within the Republican party allowed the likes of Newt Gingrich and Grover Norquest with the “Contract on America” crowd transform their party into what it is today. The Teabaggers saw an opening and walked right in and took over the party. They sat back and took that alzheimer patient Ronald Reagan literally about not calling out fellow republican.

      • May 8, 2012 at 8:50 pm

It was Raygun who invited the far right religious group into the party with open arms. It was his version of the southern or 50 state strategy. After they got in, they looked around, took their shoes off and set a spell. They liked it so much, they recruited their friends into the fold. Then the masterminds, Cheney, Armey, Koch and the like saw a willingly ignorant group that they could persuade to do their bidding. So they led them like lemmings to vote against their own interests under the guise of social issues and the bogeyman. Then along comes FOX who gives them some teabags to staple to their earlobes and other body parts, gave a new name Teabaggers and told them to go play in the parks. There you have it, now they’ve taken over the party, but they were snakes when they were brought in.

From what I’m reading, the Teabagger that defeated Dick Lugar in Indiana only won because he was funded by Rove/Koch dollars. The seat is favorable to the Dem, because the teabagger isn’t well known state wide. Hopefully the Dem runs an excellent campaign and doesn’t snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

    • May 8, 2012 at 7:49 pm

This will be interesting because Luger was in so long and well enough liked that he hadn’t had a Dem opponent for some time. I hope that the Dems have a statewide known candidate and that the Dems GOTV.

  50. 188 utaustinliberal
    May 8, 2012 at 7:51 pm

Hey TOD, it looks like Dick Lugar’s seat could now be in play for the Democrats. Polls showed that if Lugar won the primary, he would easily beat the Democratic candidate. But if Murdock won, the Democratic candidate would win. Murdock just won.

Crossing my fingers that Dems fight like mad for this seat. It’s now in play. It could go our way.

We could actually regain the House and keep the Senate.

    • May 8, 2012 at 8:04 pm

Joe Donnelly, the Dem candidate is a blue dog Dem—-sigh—-again maybe the best we could hope for in conservative-ish Indiana. I’m not fond of many of his positions, but he’s a million times better than the Repub tea party guy who just won. I’m hoping the opportunity for Dems to grab this seat increases turnout, and we not only get this Dem win but also an increased chance for PBO to win Indiana again.

        May 8, 2012 at 8:15 pm

You’re only going to get a Blue Dog from Indiana. Getting him to vote 70% of the time with Harry Reid is far better than 0% from the teabagger.

    • May 8, 2012 at 8:15 pm

But remember, he also said they had nothing. He also called them out for not backing up what they say. Fineman and all pundits are deep in both campaigns, that’s their job. It’s how they choose to portray their elbow rubs within the campaigns that makes the difference. Tonight at least he was not a friend of Rmoney.

Gearing Up for the G-8 Summit: President Obama to Speak on Global Food Security
    http://obamafoodorama.blogspot.com/2012/05/gearing-up-for-g-8-president-obama-to.html

Ahead of the G-8 Summit at Camp David in Maryland, President Obama will deliver the opening keynote to the Symposium on Global Agriculture and Food Security in Washington, DC, on Friday, May 18, the White House announced on Tuesday. The President will be joined by African Leaders, business leaders, international organizations, and leading civil society participants at the Symposium, according to the White House.

“The President’s remarks will highlight the G-8’s efforts to promote food security, improve nutrition and alleviate poverty,” the White House said.

Last week, the President invited four African leaders to join the G-8 leaders at Camp David for food security talks. The invited leaders are Yayi Boni, Chairperson of the African Union and President of Benin; Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia; President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania; and President John Atta Mills of Ghana…

Celebrity Chef Wolfgang Puck will Cook for Clooney Fundraiser
    http://obamafoodorama.blogspot.com/2012/05/celebrity-chef-wolfgang-puck-will-cook.html

    Puck signs iron-clad confidentiality agreement…
Los Angeles-based celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck will cook for President Obama’s glam fundraising dinner at George Clooney’s house this Thursday, May 10th, TMZ.com has exclusively reported. The $40,000/person dinner was the subject of a big fundraising push with the Obama, Clooney & You sweepstakes, which offered the chance for two donors and their guests to join the President, the movie star, and Southern California’s richest presidential supporters. (Above: The President and Clooney at the White House)

“There will be a special menu — not the standard Wolfgang catering–and, as one source put it, ‘The food is going to be a lot better than the Oscars,'” TMZ reported.

Puck, who owns an empire of restaurants across the US, anchored by his Spago brand, annually cooks for the Governors’ Ball at the Academy Awards, as well as does personal catering for superstars such as Clooney. TMZ said that Puck had to sign an iron-clad confidentiality agreement to cater Clooney’s dinner for 150 guests.

The dinner will be held at Clooney’s Craftsman-style estate at the top of a secluded canyon near Beverly Hills. Co-host is Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation.

All chefs who cook at Obama fundraising events must sign confidentiality agreements from the Campaign. Puck has never been announced as a guest chef at the White House, but some of these invitations are top secret. The winners of the fundraising sweepstakes also had to sign confidentiality agreements, and agree to be used in campaign materials. Their prize package includes a one-night hotel stay and coach-class airfare to Los Angeles. The prize is taxable at its assigned retail value of $1,600 (picture of the invitation accompanies the article)

    AN APOLOGY TO BWD

I just returned after a busy day to find out that my comment this morning addressing BWD’s frontpaged statement had offended BWD. I’m sorry, it was not my intention to disparage BWD or run her out of this site. I now realize that my disagreement had taken a more personal assault note than I had in mind. And so, BWD please forgive me. I love you.

I fully understand your perspective, particularly when we all believe that PBO is not a consummate politician but a rare gifted leader. Thus, it seems as if his perpetual state of “evolving” on marriage equality seems incongruous with the principled man we all know and love. My counterargument to your statement is that, there is a perfectly good reason why as we say in my native language, “you don’t want to poke a spider’s scrotum”. Remember how he resisted all the clarion calls to revoke DADT by Executive Order? Remember how Emoprogs, led by John Aravosis swore to high Heaven that PBO did NOT want to repeal DADT?

Pres. Obama took his time because he wanted to avoid BLOWBACK from the military brass & rank & file if he rushed the issue. It took 18 months but he got it done the right and lasting way and got the entire military structure to invest skin in the game.

So what does this tell us about Pres. Obama? It tells us that he has very little use for rhetorical flourishes for their own sake. Yes he is a gifted orator and his words soothe as a balm, but ironically, PBO himself is not fond of rhetoric as an end in itself.

Yes in a sense he is UNSENTIMENTAL, like that. He learned not to trust sentimentality as a child because, you guessed it, no matter how much he pined for a more conventional childhood complete with his Dad, it never happened, so he learned to operate within the world AS IT IS and not as he would wish it to be.

So, I firmly believe that, it is not cowardice or political cravenness that is holding PBO back from stating his support for Marriage Equality. He is biding his time. But as he himself also said, that should not prevent gays from agitating for their rights. He said it is not for him to counsel patience. At this time though, the political winds are not blowing right for him to provoke any more wedge issues than he already has on his plate. just as he told Medvedev, post-election, he’ll be better positioned to actually act, not just talk.

Anyway, the long and short of this post is to apologize to you for my insensitivity this morning. We are all on the same side BWD, and I have always loved you all the way from Dkos to your Tweets. Please don’t leave TOD on my account.

I hope I am forgiven. Thanks.

President Obama made the following statement about Richard Lugar’s loss to Richard Mourdock in Indiana’s Republican Senate primary on Tuesday:

“As a friend and former colleague, I want to express my deep appreciation for Dick Lugar’s distinguished service in the United States Senate.  While Dick and I didn’t always agree on everything, I found during my time in the Senate that he was often willing to reach across the aisle and get things done.   My administration’s efforts to secure the world’s most dangerous weapons has been based on the work that Senator Lugar began, as well as the bipartisan cooperation we forged during my first overseas trip as Senator to Russia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan.  Senator Lugar comes from a tradition of strong, bipartisan leadership on national security that helped us prevail in the Cold War and sustain American leadership ever since.  He has served his constituents and his country well, and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
