Thanks, Sherijr. These pundits just pull stuff out of their wazoos. Howard Fineman, especially tried to start this silly narrative. It was almost as if this was wishful thinking on his part. But why would, after these unprecendeted accomplishments, PBO run away from them. Nutty.

Good Sunday Morning TOD Family and Chipsticks. I spent the day with my brother’s family after my nieces beautiful musical receital. Those kids did an amazing performance. They played Jazz, Classical, and my nieces flute section played the “Mexican Hat Dance” in honor of Cinco De Mayo Day. I was so proud of her, her parents, and teachers who instill the love of music in children. We have to do all we can to restore public education to what it was when WE and our parents went to school…a full well rounded education for ALL children, rich, middle class, and poor. We need reading, writing, arithmatic, civics, music, art, and history for a well rounded educated America.

Chipsticks Thank you so much for this place because when I came home last night I stayed up until 2 am watching the rallies, what a FIRED UP CROWD! POTUS and FLOTUS were amazing! I am more commited than ever to help re-elect our President,

Everyone have a wonder Sunday and week. I love you all!

Reposting for the Sunday day crowd 😉

    _________________________________________________

Okay, TOD Family. Here’s my account of today’s rally in Richmond, Virginia….

I arrived at the VCU Siegel Center at just after 12 noon. There was already a sizable, but not discouragingly so, crowd of people waiting in neat lines. The weather was very warm, however the cloud cover made it bearable. Thankfully, the first rain drops didn’t fall until *just* as we were entering the building — about 2:45pm.

There were all kinds of people on line — I met some great people, including a retired, African-American, female AirForce vet and a fulltime Tim Kaine staff member who had taken two semesters off to work for PBO in 2008 and was in Grant Park in Chicago on Election Night. People had on all kinds of Obama regalia: hats, t-shirts, buttons, totebags…and the energy was high. A marching band from Virginia State University played for us outside and they were GOOD! The crowd got their groove on. The Obama Campaign Staff and Event Volunteers kept everything orderly and organized — they handed out water and kept the lines neat. Except for one duo that *tried* to cut the line, but got told off by a fiesty woman who ran and got a cop to remove them, everything ran smoothly.

Once inside, I realized that having a so-called preferred ticket has it pluses and minuses. The plus was that I was seated earlier, and it was highly unlikely that I would have been turned away. The minus is that the preferred tickets were seated *behind* the speaking platform, probably because they want to make sure that these people(basically volunteers and staff) are the ones that are providing the backdrop for the President and other speakers. So, yeah, the general admission seats were actually the ones that faced the platform. Besides that, I was very happy with my seat — I wasn’t too far from that giant flag that was in one of the pics, which was hanging over the entrance into the stadium and runway that PBO used to access and leave the platform.

I don’t know what the controversy is about regarding whether it was a full house or not. The Siegel Center was full to capacity, but no more. The ONLY empty seats were the ones directly behind the press corp and behind a huge “FORWARD” sign. There were a lot of cameramen and photographers stationed in the seats directly facing the platform, and anybody who sat behind them would not be able to see a thing, as would anybody sitting behind that sign. I am 99% sure that there was a cut-off point where no more people were let into the building. This was probably for safety reasons. I remember the doors being closed and the traffic in stopping cold once the seats were full. Another silly non-troversy! Anyway…

VCU basketball coach and local hero, Shaka Smart, kicked off the program, Mayor Dwight Jones gave an awesome opening prayer, and the Boy Scouts lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Representative Bobby Scott said a few words. Former Mayor and Governor, former DNC Chair, and now candidate for U.S. Senate, Tim Kaine, was very impressive in his remarks — he has more gravitas and presence in person that what I have experienced from him on t.v. He is extremely supportive of the President, and he seems ready to run this race.

The program was kept moving by lots of music, and some of the great videos we’ve all seen here: Forward, Fired Up and Ready to Go (the lady from SC), I’m In, etc. People loved these videos and cheered them with gusto. We did the wave, we danced, we laughed. Things started getting buzzed when we saw the campaign photographers enter the building — I saw Pete Souza, at one point he was standing a few rows down from me! Then more Secret Service personnel came in, and a security dog sniffed around the area where the Presidet would enter. Anticipation was high.

Finally, around 5, we heard a voice simply say, “here to introduce the President of the United States, is the First Lady, Michelle Obama!” And the crowd went wild! She is even more beautiful and radiant in person. She is in absolutely tip-top shape and exudes a softness that come across even more in real life. It’s very magnetic. She spoke with no notes, no prompter, for about 10(?) minutes — extremely warm, heartfelt words about her background and how her story relates to all of ours as we’re trying to move forward in rebuilding the middle class and re-electing PBO. It is absolutely true what they say about Michelle — she is incredibly impressive on the stump. A fantastic aura, a strong yet warm voice, and an authenticity that can’t be faked. I can’t imagine a better partner for the President.

Then the main event! Michelle brought PBO on, and the crowd went even wilder! PBO swag-bounced his way in, megawatt smile in place, waving to the whole crowd on all sides. He looks healthy, strong, and energetic in person. Trim, but not skinny. Because I was facing the back of the speaking platform, I can confirm that, just like his wife, he is in incredible shape, and everything is quite proper. *ahem* You all have the video and transcript of the event, so I don’t need to give blow-by-blow of what he said. I will just tell you that he was clear and forceful in making his points and that the audience was hanging on his every word. PBO made it clear that the campaign would require lots of work from all of us from now to November and beyond. He was interrupted continuously by applause, Amens, “we’ve got your back!”, “I love you!” — the crowd was totally fired up from beginning to end and exploded into cheers when he gave his trademark closing “……God Bless the United States of America!”

Michelle joined him back on stage, and TOD, let me tell you, it is amazing to see them in each other’s space in person. We see still photos and snapshots of time, but truly, PBO’s face lights up when she comes into his space and they are extremely touch-feely in each other’s presence. It is a beautiful thing to see. He can’t keep his hands off her. Very warm, very loving, very genuine, very inspiring. They made their way to the floor and shook hands on the floor, from one side of the stage to the other. They eventually made it back over to my side where a funny thing happened. There was a man in my section who had the cutest, chunkiest baby girl. I don’t know how in the world he got down to where he did, but he got PBO (who had already passed him on his way out) to backtrack and do his baby-whispering thing with the cutiepie, get a picture, and hand the baby back. It was adorable.

There was lots of love and positive energy in the building. If you can at all get to a live event, I highly suggest you go. It puts you in a totally different frame of mind than the rut we get into looking at the talking heads, reading toxic internet sites, listening to poisonous lies. No, a rally is not the election. However, it is a reminder of the higher potentiality, the love, the joy that is accessible to all of us. These 8,000 or so people who showed up today know thousands of other people, and they know thousands of others, and so on and so on. It is a seed that will bear fruit, I’m convinced, and will help keep Virginia blue and keep this country moving forward.

Sorry for the length. Feel free to ask me any questions 🙂 ….

PJ, so glad you reposted because I missed the first one.

Great analysis and summarization. Thank you for putting us a little closer in the room. We could see the scene with the baby you described. We are very blessed to have PBO and FLOTUS in this day and age.

I love that you had a great time PJ.

One small note: the prompters are transparent. Mrs. O gave the same speech at OSU. Both of them are pros so you don’t even know they’re using them. 😉 Her speech made me tear up a bit.

        May 6, 2012 at 2:05 pm

You know, I noticed the transparent prompter to the right of the podium during PBO’s speech, and saw his notes, as I was sitting behind the platform. I could see him reading. I didn’t notice the same thing with Michelle, and she didn’t have any notes during her speech. However, from some of the pics I just saw, it does appear that she may be reading from the prompter as well. All I can say is she was smooooooooth — yes, they truly are pros. 🙂

I was impressed by listening by how engaged, fired up the crowd was. I had to turn the volume down a notch for the crowd response. The focus on numbers (which were great) misses the more important quality of the crowds. They were fired up, ready to go, and most important they have the Obamas’ backs. Truly what distinguishes our campaign is millions of voices fired up by hope for change. Despite the negativity and lies of the opposition and the Newstainers we will do the hard work to reelect President Obama and secure a democratic House and Senate. Yes we can!

    GROWTH vs AUSTERITY

What a Socialist France Would Mean for America

By PATRICK SMITH, The Fiscal Times (April 30, 2012)

    ————————–

Should the U.S. be (a) frightened, (b) neutral or (c) exuberant that a very moderate Socialist looks set to win the presidency in France when the second round of voting takes place May 6? If Francoise Hollande wins, Americans should applaud. Why? Hollande’s arrival in Élysée Palace would mark the beginning of the end of the rigorous austerity policies that have pushed Europe to the brink of depression and made the Continent a drag on U.S. growth and a threat to its frail recovery.
    .
    .
The best thing to come out of a Hollande presidency would be a more diverse conversation about economic policies. For too long it has been like an ideological crusade: Cut spending and do not worry about stimulus or jobs. Even now, we see resistance in the markets. With basket cases such as Spain in the news—its jobless rate is now hovering at a 25 percent—we need new ideas, thinking that combines fiscal and budgetary discipline with humanity and concern for the common weal.

33 Quotes About Conservatives/Republicans That Liberals Should Know About

The GOP hasn’t even learned from their own idol, Reagan that optimism and hope is what wins elections, not cynicism and despair. And clearly in this election PBO is the candidate of optimism and hope, and Swiss Mitt is the candidate of fear, cynicism, and hopelessness.

Ok….so according to news reports Francois Hollande has won with 52% of the votes and Sarkozy is on his way out. Congratulations to the French people for another peaceful demonstration of democracy. Here are some of Mr. Hollande’s policies. Hopefully, they pan out. I’ll be watching closely to see how they affect the global market and in turn the United States.

Socialist Francois Hollande has been elected as France’s new president, early estimates say.

He got about 52% of votes in Sunday’s run-off, according to projections based on partial results, against 48% for centre-right incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy.

Mr Hollande would be the first French socialist president since 1995.

The socialist candidate has promised to raise taxes on big corporations and people earning more than 1m euros a year.

He also wants to raise the minimum wage, hire 60,000 more teachers and lower the retirement age from 62 to 60 for some workers.

So Europe is learning the folly of RWNJ economic policies. Please God, let America follow suit.

Bill Moyers Essay: Who Pays for Political Ads?

Great efforts are underway both locally and nationally to keep secret the identities of people and organizations paying for local political advertisements. But Americans can still do something, even when broadcasters shirk their responsibilities. In this essay, Bill Moyers suggests what you can do to bring those names to light.

    PAC TRACK

What and Where are the Super PACs Spending?

By Al Shaw and Kim Barker, ProPublica. Updated May 6, 2012, 2:00 p.m. EST

    —————————–

Two federal court rulings in 2010 paved the way for the ascent of “super PACs,” political action committees that can raise and spend unlimited amounts of money on political races, as long as they don’t coordinate with a specific candidate. And so far, they’re spending heavily on the Republican race. This app, part of our long-term investigation into “dark money,” keeps track of where super PACs are spending and raising their cash to influence the presidential race.

    BILL MOYERS: TAKE ACTION

    ——————————————

“Yes, democracy’s in trouble, but what can I do about it?” We know the difficulties can seem insurmountable. But organized action, joining with others to face our times and challenges, can make a difference. Below are a variety of initiatives dedicated to tilting the balance of power. Suggest your own ideas and remember Margaret Mead’s wise words: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

I see that Netenyahu is way ahead in the Polls in Israel.
So, he is calling for an earlier election, so he can be overwhelmingly re elected
I don’t see what Israeli People see in him?
My impression, he is a War monger, wanting to get rid of all Muslims. Sort of like taking us back to the 8th Century, except with modern warfare.
And the Iranians are pushing his buttons.
Remember, this is Willards buddy, and he said, whatever Bibi wants I will give him!
That is yet another huge reason, to vote Obama.
    Anyways…

I’m not sure if I’m copying this right but it is worth a retweet and repost from everyone. Robert Reich can be an emoprog asshole but this is as perfect a description of Romney as I’ve ever seen:

Silly girl….look up:) Excellent explanation. And though I agree that he can be a reactionary pain in the neck sometimes, this is well done and easily understood. Good for him for putting this up…we need to Tweet the crap out of this…….

My sentiments exactly. We need to deflate this American worship of ‘success’, that equates it with ‘good’. It is quite often the opposite of good, leaving wreckage in its wake. This is what Mitt Romney is — he’s a sociopathic destroyer and has no business being anywhere close to leadership.

How sad. Loved/love Andy Griffith show but could never watch him…..little too goofy. May he RIP. OT, I was re-watching the rally in Richmond, and noticed, again, how FLOTUS broke out into a little dance at the end, right before exiting the stage. Too darn cute 😀 I love each of their boisterous and youthful nature, and I am so thankful that young people can see that Heads of State can be just real people. Okay, am really going now to get my garden stuff. Later folks !!

This is the stark contrast the President told us about:

Gov. Scott Misses Out On $200 Million For Children’s Health Care Funding

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) likes to reject most things that come from the federal government. In the latest rejection of federal funds, his administration has rejected almost $200 million in bonuses that would have gone to health care for children.

Still watching my recording of MTP. Is it me, or is Vice President Biden even better with the Irish storytellin’ now, than he’s ever been? This part of his advice to President Obama, prior to the decision to take out bin Laden, just got my heart, ” … just follow your instincts, Mr. President … your instincts have been close to unerring.” Oh, my.

I agree jacqueline, VP Biden is wonderful and so loyal to PBO.

Sorry, keep forgetting to change my user name back to Sam UK, I guess I shall just have to sign off with my name in future. Not a problem to me as long as you guys know it’s me and not a troll! Lol!

Hope you are all ok, not posted a while as helping a friend move and working hard looking after parents and my 2 respite care boys. Still 10000000% with PBO and cant wait for him to be re elected. Also just found out that my family COULD have a connection with PBO’s ancestors in Ireland! I am looking in to it more and will not completely believe it until I find out a lot more but just wanted to share that possibility with you guys.It is an exciting prospect though.

Anyway, just going to watch your awesome President’s speech in Virginia – yep I am a little behind this weekend. Love you all and God bless.

This was, hands down, one of his best performances ever. Passionate, articulate, honest, competent and Gregory didn’t make it any too easy for him. A vigrous, inspiring vision of the President and America’s future. A stunning performance. Sure, I had a few improved answers, but that’s easy to say from the comfort of my sofa!

      Joe was brilliant.
