‘Economy Has Recovered All Private Sector Jobs Lost Since PBO Took Office’

ThinkProgress: As of April, there are now more private sector jobs in the United States than there were in January 2009, when President Obama took office. You read that right. We have now replaced all of the private sector jobs lost while Obama has been president. And that was no mean feat, given that over the course of 2009, the private sector shed about 4.2 million jobs.

Unfortunately, the news is not nearly so good when it comes to the public sector, where there are currently 607,000 fewer people working than there were when President Obama took office.

The chart below tells the whole story. Under President Obama, the private sector has experienced a relatively robust recovery, and is now back to where it started when he took office. The public sector continues to shed jobs, and as a result, the overall jobs picture in the US remains weak. If you want to understand why conservative efforts to slash funding for teachers, firefighters, cops is bad for the economy, look no further than this graph.

Thanks BWD

I don’t know if it was posted

Media Goes Silent as Gas Prices Fall After Obama Crack Down On Oil Speculation

As recently as last month, Mitt Romney was still blaming President Obama for the price of gas, “He gets full credit or blame for what’s happened to this economy and what’s happened to gasoline prices under his watch and what’s happened to our schools and what’s happened to our military forces — all these things are his responsibility while he’s president.”

Speaker of the House John Boehner went as far as to claim that gas prices could cost Obama the election,

The media was happy to give the Republicans a free forum and plenty of airtime to use to blame Obama for gas prices

I don’t know how you guys are paying now but in Canada it’s , well these days, approx 1.45 a liter. 1 gallon is 3.7 liters ( I had to look). So basically we’re paying about 5.36 a gallon…..

I checked on google to know why Canadians are paying more than Americans.

First thing I read was this message in a blog.

”Why do Canadians pay more than Americans? It’s because Canadians are inferior and must pay a 20-30% inferiority tax. That’s why Canadians pay on average 30% more than Americans.”

Ha! I have a feeling it’s not the reason lol

    Good grief…….

Mitt Romney’s campaign is working hard to steal President Barack Obama’s spotlight this weekend, when the president is set to hold the first major rallies of his 2012 re-election campaign.

At Ohio State University in Columbus, where Obama is set to speak around 1:25 p.m. ET on Saturday, Romney aides are planning to circle the candidate’s campaign bus…..

Exactly what is this supposed to accomplish? Are they planning on heckling President Obama while he is speaking to supporters? This sounds like a teen age prank not something that a presidential candidate would do. Apparently, Romney feels it’s his turn now to be in the Oval Office and this election is a nuisance. But so far, Romney is showing just how shallow and unqualified he is for the job:

      1) He criticizes President Obama for everything. Basically, vote for Romney because the other guy is a disaster.
      2) He provides no specifics about what he would do differently.
      3) He uses his wife as a crutch.
      4) He writes lots of op-eds where he can lie with impunity.
      5) He is avoiding Meet The Republicans and Face The Republican Nation. Bob Schieffer and David Gregory invite him every week and so far he has declined.
      6) He lies, distorts and makes stuff up on a regular basis. Steve Benen has enough material for a book deal.
      7) His foreign policy is incoherent. His advisors are former GWB administration officials.
      8) His economic agenda is basically an updated version of GWB. (No taxes for the wealthy, no regulations)
      9) He has embraced the Ryan budget plan.
      10) He is a disgusting opportunist. He tried to use the China dissident issue for political gain.
      11) He is a puppet for Grover Norquist.
      12) He is beholden to the radical right wing.
      13) He allowed the radical right to brow beat him into accepting the resignation of an openly gay employee.
      14) He is joined at the hip with Bob McDonnell of vaginal probe fame.
      15) He copies everything President Obama does. He has no creative or original ideas of his own.
      16) His opacity is a badge of honor.
      17) He disrespects President Carter with belittling wisecracks.
      18) Romney conveniently omits any discussion of his dismal record as Governor of MA.
      19) Romney pretends he’s so patriotic but his has his money in Swiss Bank Accounts.
      20) Romney essentially bought his presidential nomination by outspending his opponents.

      • May 4, 2012 at 7:06 pm

Given how less than enthusiastic some of his own people are, shouldn’t he be having his own rallies? Or maybe the problem is that nobody really wants to go to one of his rallies, so he hopes to piggyback off of Obama’s.

This stunt won’t impress any undecideds at the Obama rally, and just fire up the rest. BTW, he also is going to phonebank at the rally too….

        • May 4, 2012 at 7:14 pm

Also, its going to probably push the undecideds INTO Obama’s camp. People do not like Romney, and this stunt is not going to convince them to give their support to him.

“Or maybe the problem is that nobody really wants to go to one of his rallies, so he hopes to piggyback off of Obama’s.”

I think you are on to something. Maybe they want the perception that this is a Romney rally OR those folks really want to see President Obama and decided to make this up just to be able to see how a real campaign is run.

I’m sorry, but Mitt Romney’s campaign has to be the most juvenile campaign I have ever seen. He knows President Obama’s rally is going to be huge and dwarf every Mitt Romney rally ever conceived. If he does what he is trying to do, doesn’t he think that this will paint him more as a mean, out of touch asshole who has to follow the President to get any press. Also, he’s going to piss off a lot of Obama supporters, who at that function would not only vote forthrightly for President Obama, but make doubly sure Mitt Romney eats the pavement. This might really backfire on the Romney camp.

Swiss MItt, 47th in the nation as MA governor in job creation claims he can go down below 4% unemployment. Last one to do that was Bill Clinton. But Swiss MItt loves to fire people so I think he’s fibbing. Mainly Swiss Mitt wants a “fair” America where billionaires are free to hide their money in Swiss Bank accounts, the Cayman Islands, and other tax shelters. Swiss Mitt doesn’t like that name, but I think that’s the one we should all call him for the remainder of this election season, just to remind Americans of where Swiss MItt’s loyalties lie. $$$$$$$$$$

Hi. Just got home from volunteering at a school in need today. We remade the library, bought and filled the shelves with books after we painted, carpeted, and built the shelves ourselves. We also painted 3 murals though out the school. Each child went home with 7 new books to read in brand new back packs. We re landscaped, and distributed food to about 100 families in need. I am exhausted! Can’t wait to do it again later this month. Here is just one picture of the huge Library with all new books. Someone else had a better camera so she took them.

What the hell is wrong with Libs? Charles Pierce mopes in his columns today as if there’s a funeral. Why? Because people like him have bought into GOp nonsense, changing reality before our very eyes. A jobs report that shows positive growth of 113,000 is now cause for breast-beating? What will it take for Dems/Libs to stick to the guts and principles NO MATTER WHAT!!!

This defeatist attitude is what makes it possible for fraudulent Romney to move goalposts about what constitutes ‘good jobs recovery”. So now you have Charles Pierce blaming PBO’s DNC speech in 2004 as the reason the President did not “destroy” Republicans in 2009, because it made him too conciliatory. Huh?

When GOP are blatantly wrong, disingenuous, & destructive, they don’t throw up their arms in despair. They double down on the evil, and back up their most dishonest politicians. Yet here we are with the most ethical hardworking Democratic President, one who has toiled without much help from his own party, being vilified by his fellow Democrats for not single-handedly destroying Republicans. WTF?

How much help has Pierce and his ilk given beyond tapping on their keyboards? What happened to their much bally-hooed OWS this time around? These leftists have ZERO idea how to nurture a SUSTAINABLE movement. They know zilch about the relentlessness with which we need to persuade and push American people to act and vote in their economic interests. president Obama is the only liberal who has developed the persuasive language to move people to our cause. And move people is what he has been painstakingly doing since 2004 with nary a peep of assistance from Libs/Dems. This is not a job for one person. He cannot speak and amplify his own message too. We have collectively failed Pres. Obama & our country. The slogan was “Yes WE can”.

If we fail to keep Pres. Obama in his job, it is we who will rued the day. He will be fine. The world will snap him up like a hot cake, and he will go on to bigger and more appreciative audiences. We will live in HELL under soulless and selfish Romney. Caligula will seem quaint by comparison

Three-Judge Panel Lifts Republican Judge’s Stay Of Texas Planned Parenthood Decision |

Earlier this week, Republican Fifth Circuit Judge Jerry Smith issued an unusual single-judge order staying another judge’s decision suspending a Texas law that cuts off funding for Planned Parenthood. Today, a three-judge panel of the same court, which includes Judge Smith, lifted Smith’s order — meaning that the Texas anti-Planned Parenthood law is suspended once again.

As a practical matter, however, today’s order will have little real impact. The Texas law will not actually cut off the relevant Planned Parenthood funding until November, and today’s order expedites this case so that it will be heard in July. Accordingly, it is likely that the Fifth Circuit will have reached a final decision on whether to affirm or reverse the lower court’s pro-Planned Parenthood order before that order could actually make a difference.

A photo of Barack Obama in a campaign video for French President Nicolas Sarkozy is upsetting the team of Sarkozy’s rival, Socialist Francois Hollande.

Hollande’s campaign chief Pierre Moscovici said Friday he was surprised the photo of Obama and Sarkozy aired in the video and called the U.S. Embassy to discuss the matter. Hollande leads Sarkozy in polls before Sunday’s election.

Another campaign staffer said Hollande’s aides are furious, fearing the image suggests that Obama — who is widely popular in France — is taking sides in the French presidential race.

The last-minute invitation caused a minor political dust-up: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican and one of the president’s biggest adversaries in Congress, was invited to attend but declined. The reason: He’d planned to attend the festivities in the run-up to Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, another storied state sports tradition. But the conflict appeared to be more a quirk of the calendar than anything else.

This is just a comment to get rid of the emails. Thank you LL! I didn’t notice the follow up comments by email box had been checked automatically when they made me log in again recently. Whew! Oh Happy Day!

Probably. He went after Mitt Romney pretty good last night for criticizing President Carter. That means It’s time for the pendulum to swing. I have a feeling his Let Me Finish will be a bit of doom and gloom because of the jobs numbers. Que the scary music. This is trouble for President Obama. I’ve been hitting the mute for a good part of the broadcast. The gasbags are insufferable. The incessant flapping of the gums and and analyzing of polls is starting to get to me. And we have six more months of this madness.

Ok…testing. Hopefully with me unchecking the “Notify Me Of Follow Up Comments Via Email” box, WordPress can stop pissing me off by flooding my freaking inbox.

Did it get resolved? If not, maybe you could try this:

Okay, so I did a few things and now I’m not getting e-mails and the “notify me of follow-up comments via e-mail” thing at the bottom of the comment section isn’t automatically checkmarked. You can do all 4 of the things or you can experiment to see exactly which one did the magic. They are all simple to do and don’t take much time:

      1) Do what I said earlier, click on the subscription option link at the bottom of one of the e-mails and follow it to the WP site where there is a dialog box on the left. Click on the dialog box and unfollow and hit apply.

      2) Now look –I think–below the dialog box, you will see three headings like: site, post and I think date or time or something(horrible memory).
      b) hit ‘site’ and move to one on the topics that are listed, as soon as you get anywhere near one i.e: this thread’s topic, you’ll see the words delete in red appear. Do that for all of them. And then you’ll get a relatively long message about how you’ve deleted these topics, etc.

      3) Scroll up, you will see the WP logo with a .com at the end, beneath that you will see 4 options: (sites, comments, pending, settings) hit settings and you will get like 3 options, click ‘block all emails, etc”

      4) Finally, just go to TOD and you know that header that lets you know you’ve signed in? It’s got the WP logo, then ‘The Obama Diary,” then the word “Follow” when you are following there is a check mark infront of the word. When you are ‘unfollowing’, there is a + sign in a circle— this gets rid of that automatic checkmark that appears below the comment box.

So these don’t take any time and I haven’t gotten any more e-mails and I just checked it so these steps should work.

The headline by Think Progress is incorrect. It should say “the economy has recovered all private sector jobs since BEFORE pbo took office.

So in addition to their sophisticated (middle school) plan to circle Obama’s campaign bus at OSU tomorrow, the Willard campaign also plans to set up a phone banking operation in an adjacent parking lot? What??? Are you kidding me? What is this, some juvenile student council campaign? “Rushing the quarterback” they’re calling it. These people are creepy dumbheads, not fit for prime time. Hardly.

Don’t worry….this stupid gig will FLOP..it will become the joke of the year. The phone bankers will find themselves VERY frustrated as they try to explain on the phone why Mitt is it, while hearing people cheering and applauding PBO in the background. Secondly, the juxtaposition of PBO’s diverse ENTHUSIASTIC crowds with Willard’s bored and frustrated phonebankers is a TERRIBLE idea (who thought of this stupid plan?)

By next week, they’ll be back to birtherism, and other nonsense because this stupid plan will FAIL!

This is one of the worst ideas anybody could have thought of. The parallels will be laughable at best. Imagine how on fire twitter will be, and the jokes coming from the night time comedians. Shameful, silly, transparently envious, and overall just plain evil. I cannot wait till he gets his ass kicked on national tv.

I agree. Those business women who were standing behind him yesterday in VA have probably been helped by PBO’s tax cuts. Some of the folks who arein his audience know that he is a liar and what he is saying is not correct. I don’t understand how they could accept and applaud that.

well, my 5 days of PTO is over as of tomorrow. Then I’m working for at least 2 weeks straight til I’m able to take off again.

Also, it looks like that hospital job I applied for back home ain’t gonna be mine. My app still says under review since April 18th, but they reposted the position again. So unless they are hiring 2 positions (which just doesn’t happen often in the Micro lab), then I ain’t got da job. Oh well, I’m gonna try on Monday to call the HR dept to confirm my suspiscion but I suspect the fat lady has sung on that job.

My sister thinks its racial (she thinks everything is…lol), I think it was because of the pay. Their loss though, I’m a DAMN good Micro tech.

Did you ever call them and let them know that you would be in the area? I missed it if you did, sorry lamh35. Sorry that you think that you didn’t get this job. I know how bad that feels, trust me. Stay positive…you were meant for an even BIGGER opportunity!

      • 155 lamh35
        May 4, 2012 at 8:26 pm

I didn’t go out of town after all. I probably would have if I could have found a reliable way to get there other than driving. My gut told me not to drive and we N’awlinians are a suspcious lot…lol. So I just stayed in DFW and took the last 5 days to just do nothing and just rest my mind most.

Still, I was kinda regretting the app once I spoke to my sister who works there, but told me that she was meh about the place. She likes her co-workers but she couldn’t really say whether she like the place or not. Plus a friend of mine worked in the lab in another section and she was not a fan. She quit the lab as soon as she could. She said the pay was NOT gonna be good because the place was notorious for under paying so there was that too.

        So onward and upward.

I’m posting this again. Yes. It’s THAT important!

    http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/the_best_policy/2012/04/affordable_care_act_the_supreme_court_and_the_constitution_harvard_law_professor_einer_elhauge_shows_how_the_founding_fathers_supported_mandates_.html

Amazingly, the examples of individual mandates passed by the founders are so directly applicable that the claim that original intent precludes affirming the heath care act should become almost laughable:
In 1790, a Congress including 20 Founders passed a law requiring that ship owners buy medical insurance for their seamen. Washington signed it into law.
In 1792, another law signed by Washington required that all able-bodied men buy a firearm. (So much for the argument that Congress can’t force us to participate in commerce.)
And in 1798, a Congress with five framers passed a law requiring that all seamen buy hospital insurance for themselves. Adams signed this legislation.
In aggregate, these laws show that the Founders and the Congress of the time were willing to force all of us to participate in a particular act of commence and were comfortable requiring both the owner of a business and the individual employee to buy insurance in order to assure that health costs would be covered at a societal level. That is a pretty complete rebuttal to all the claims being made by the originalists as they relate to the health care act.
But what is so powerful about these historical finds is not just that they rebut the specific argument about original intent as applied to the health care act. This history lays bare the ahistorical nature of the justices’ claims at another and deeper level. For the types of bill passed in 1790, 1792, and 1798 show the Founders to have been doing exactly what congress did especially well in the era of FDR—–experimenting with solutions and approaches to resolving social issues in ways that made government part of creative problem solving.
