Washington Post: President Obama’s reelection campaign has been rapidly increasing the number of big money “bundlers” collecting checks for his reelection, doubling the number of financiers who have brought in at least $500,000.

The influx during the first quarter of the year shows the president is getting an especially warm embrace from Hollywood and the broader entertainment industry, partly making up for a drop in support from Wall Street after Democrats passed broad new regulations for the financial sector, according to a list of fundraisers released by the campaign on Friday.

…. The Obama campaign has 533 people who have each raised at least $50,000 for his campaign and the Democratic National Committee, including 90 who joined the campaign in the last quarter. The total nearly matches the 558 people who were listed as volunteer fundraisers for the 2008 campaign.

…. The lengthening list of top fundraisers is a sign that bigger donors are coming off the sidelines as the outlines of the race against Romney become clear….

“We’ve had to raise without the same sense of early urgency,” said Andy Spahn, a top fundraiser for Obama in Hollywood. “But the race is coming into focus and the donor community is really starting to step up.”

On Friday, Secretary Chu hosted a live chat discussion to celebrate the 42nd annual Earth Day. The conversation with an in-person audience, streamed live here on energy.gov, highlighted the fact that we don’t have to choose between our economy and our environment.

For example, Secretary Chu highlighted how easy it is to save money and the planet at the same time. By making sure that you seal air leaks and add insulation, you’re making your home more environmentally friendly and lowering your energy bill. In addition, Secretary Chu spoke about the Energy Department’s work to help oil companies make energy efficient cars – lowering emissions and your stops at the gas station.

While taking questions from Twitter, Facebook, email and the in-person audience, Secretary Chu also talked about topics such as natural gas, renewables, industrial efficiency, nuclear power, and energy successes.

If you missed the live chat, you can watch the full video of the event above.

Happy Earth Day everyone. I just wanted to ask you all something. i get many emails for many causes. Lately I have been getting many from a group called “Momsrising.org” I do read them but this morning I scanned the lengthy email before going back to reading it from the start. It seems this is a so called “bi-partisan” group. This email mentioned “Stand with Ann Romney”. It first started out with the Wall Street Reform act saying that stay at home moms will not be able to get credit cards due to no income for the individual not household income. I have not read this part of the act if it even exits. I went to their website. They have pictures and testimony from many moms on important issues to them. It seems it is a ruse. This is a republican group. Equal pay may be part of their agenda but most pictures are with Republican Congresswomen. One with Pelosi but I think the GOP women in congress are behind this.

Has anyone gotten these emails? There is also another group of “GOP” for clean energy. They are still the Drill Baby Drill club. Lengthy emails between me and the leader of this group got me off their list. This is also another scam.

Any organization that asks you to stand with Ann Romney is a joke. Stand with her to do what? Act like a petulant child? Expect privileges to fall into your lap? Ruthlessly undermine women’s rights and health care as long as it isn’t your own? Scorn the poor? Despise minorities? Advocate a life of lies? No thanks. We already a w strong, caring, beautiful charismatic First lady and we don’t need to give any more oxygen to little platinum-spoon Ann.

Proud, if you have a Twitter account I strongly suggest that you make it know that this group is nothing but a RW lobbying (probably for big oil) group posing as an innocent-sounding “moms” interest group. I will also do the same!

    • April 22, 2012 at 11:50 am

Thank you, Proud! I have been receiving their emails, and I have not been paying attention to this group. I did not think they were talking about the issues in ways that attracted me, but I did not unsubscribe because I thought they represented democratic women. I will unsubscribe right now!

    • 31 sherijr
      April 22, 2012 at 12:36 pm

I used to receive MomsRising emails last year. They really really push their “bi-partisanship” – after receiving their emails never calling out the true culprits- the republicans- I wrote to them and itemized all the destruction the repubs had done, the obstacles they’d put up.. and then I unsubscribed to them.

I had the same issue with VoteVets.. “bi-partisanship” which is nice in a perfect world, but in reality has not existed for this President. I unsubscribed to them also.

There is no room for the fencesitting- both sides do it nonsense. Pay attention to reality and pick a side.. but for these groups its about money.. they sit in the middle so they can reap the benefits from both sides.

I think you could call the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau to ask the question about the credit cads, and also make them aware that this literature/propaganda is making the rounds. Part of their mission is to inform consumers and stop them from being misinformed. This sounds like a bunch of nonsense or twisting the truth to make it sound unpalatable, but I haven’t read the bill, so you might want to check with CFPB.

CNN lost the last shred of its credibility years ago. It’s a pathetic, sad excuse of a news station, breathlessly running after the left over Fox audience. Of course that audience can barely walk, let alone run, so it isn’t much of a challenge. Just bring on the nasty and the partisan and you can call yourself a “news station.” Kind of like wearing a Halloween mask.

Good morning everybody. We seem to be heading back to early Spring in this area with temperatures dropping. We were shedding coats in early March, now they’re coming out again. I wonder why tv talk shows dragged Lieberman out on Earth Day. Could they have needed someone older than dirt? Except for Axelrod, it’s more lousy lineups that aren’t worth watching. Celebrating my wedding anniversary, so it’s going to be a good day, rain or shine, cold or hot.

Shows mostly that some people from the left are not good judges of character. And they can be fooled by rhetoric. Mr. Edwards was talking a good game ( poverty, etc..) but if you did some research about his political career, you couldn’t help thinking that the man didn’t have anything special in terms of vision, intellect, and leadership.

During the primaries, the contrast between Mr. Edwards and Mr. Obama was for me so so evident. Both were talking about helping people, bringing more fairness, etc… . However, I sensed in Barack Obama an INTENSITY, a DEPTH of thinking, a more solid CORE. Authenticity, brilliance, vision and wisdom. Mr. Edwards was not in the same league. I remember reading some comments here from people who had the chance to meet both of these men; the contrast was evident, indeed.

Note: I know that some people here were at first supporters of Mr. Edwards and I’m sorry if I’m hurting you in saying this. Don’t worry, I too sometimes make mistakes in judging people. And the most important thing is : we all agree that Barack Obama is a great president and he just HAS TO BE REELECTED !!!

    • 55 Don
      April 22, 2012 at 8:30 am

Maybe the liberals should be pissed at John Edwards for not being able to keep it in his pants. The most disappointing part of this whole thing is that Edwards was running around with his mistress and still trying to pressure then candidate Obama to put him on the ticket as the Veep or Attorney General.

      • April 22, 2012 at 8:57 am

He did not care if this would have brought down the whole party. He was just interest in advancing his own career. I think he wanted to be vice president, too.

      • 57 jackiegrumbacher
        April 22, 2012 at 9:05 am

Yes, that was the unforgivable part. You want to ruin your own life and future? Fine. But don’t drag the whole party and the country down with you.

      • 58 L3
        April 22, 2012 at 9:18 am

They shouldn’t be angry at Holder’s DOJ because the person who brought the case against Edwards was one of the Republican DOJ attorneys hired during the W. years after several DOJ attorneys were driven out of their jobs mostly for refusing to participate in politically motivated prosecutions of Democrats. He also did it as a way to further his political career at Edward’s expense. It’s my understanding he’s now running for either Congress or Senate which will leave the case to be prosecuted by someone else.

And as far as Edwards is concerned, don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time. Karma is a b*#ch. The way he treated his wife in her last months of life, I could care less what happens to him. They both knew she was dying; clearly he could have put off his whoremongering until then. Who knows if this is true but I remember reading then that Edwards did not like or respect PBO because he thought he was a “p-word” and that he remained in the race so long because he believed as the only viable white male in the race he had a shot because there was no way, in his mind, this country was going to elect a black man or woman President and that Democrats would eventually come to that realization and support him over PBO or Hillary. What a loser.

    • April 22, 2012 at 8:58 am

Good Sunday Morning and Happy Earth Day TOD!

I see from the schedule that PBO will be hitting some crucial battleground states next week. I just love how he weaves these very serious policy speeches into a Call To Action in the most appropriate places. 😉

Also, I see that since it’s Sunday it’s “Meet The Republicans”. Our lazy, sloppy media doesn’t even try to hide it any longer. Oh and now we get Keith O to stroke (two steps forward for our cause) and bash (one step forward for the Repubs cause) the President on Sunday’s with the rest of them. Geesh!!!

I’ve felt guilty not helping at OFA the past couple months because of work but I’ll be out there next weekend. Thank you Jovie, Isonprize and Prettyfoot58 and any others for phonebanking and canvassing this past week. <–THIS IS HOW WE WILL WIN THIS ELECTION!!

Good morning, TODers, and welcome back, Yardarm! To all caring for their elderly parents – or who have cared or will care for them – I’ll add my encouragement. Took care of my Mother at home for five years, and no matter how tired you become, it’s one of the best things you’ll ever do in life! I’m so glad I was given the opportunity and met the challenge, and for each minute of each day I gave her, I knew she would have doubled it to help me, and that was my second gift at the time. My third gift was seeing my son and grandchildren helping her, too, thus passing forward the concept of “how to love” our older ones. You can also love them just as well if they are in a residential home, but any way you do it, it’s well worthwhile.

Happy Earth Day! “I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in.” ~John Muir, 1913, in “John Muir, John of the Mountains”

Love David Axelrod. He always knocks down Candy Crowley’s GOP shilling with a smile but very pointed words. She questioned Pres. Obama’s leadership in regards to the SS scandal and Axelrod looked at her like, WTF do Colombian hookers have to do with Pres. Obama? He told her point blank that even CNN’s poll showed that Pres. Obama has huge positives when it comes to the trait of leadership and then he asked her “Are you questioning your own employer’s poll?” She was like uh…uh….I’d never question CNN’s poll. Axelrod then told her, ok then, me neither. BOOM!

David Gregory just did a promo for MTP that was written by the RNC and the Romney campaign. It was all about the SS and GSA scandals, saying it was proof that “government has run amok”. And he talked about how Romney has a huge advantage for economic reasons, how President Obama’s re-election is “in peril” because of the widespread pessimism in the country etc. etc. etc. It was a study in propaganda, purposely selective, horribly misleading.

I think we need to start tweeting, posting, emailing, aggressively the meme that the media is using fake “scandals” to undermine the President. As I stated about a month ago, I don’t think the recent swath of incidents involving the military/SS is accidental. I truly believe that the Republican party has ordered Republicans in the military and other parts of government to act up as much as possible to embarrass the President and undermine people’s confidence in government and in his ability to lead.

January – urinating on corpses story is released
      February – Koran burning
March – shooting of Afghan families (now the story is coming out that it was many soldiers involved as I had suspected, not just one)
April – SS and military “Columbian prostitute” scandal
May – there will be something else in May – stay tuned…

In all of the above incidents – it is ALWAYS US soldiers, and they tend to be White, male and Republican.

I have been accused of being a CT theorist – and I’m willing to endure that accusation for now, but this is an election year, and I’m putting NOTHING past these desperadoes. Short of inciting a wingnut to assassinate PBO, they won’t stop at anything to get that stupid hollow puppet of theirs in the WH.

        April 22, 2012 at 2:10 pm

Given that the Repub media is now all touting this “leadership in question; government in shambles” meme, I don’t think your theory is that far-fetched. People didn’t pay attention in the primary, so now that they’re about to pay attention to the General Election, and Romney is trying to run as the “ultimate manager” – this plays right into their story. They play dirty. And they lie.

Crowley also expressed surprise that Latino voters still overwhelmingly support PBO and Axelrod told her well maybe it’s because they know the President fought for the Dream Act and the GOP blocked it and have blocked any meaningful attempt at immigration reform. He also told her that when Pres. Obama wins a second term, he will most definitely focus on immigration reform, he will however need a supportive congress. Hint: PBO needs Democrats to win both chambers of congress.

Crowley is as disingenuous as they come. She knows perfectly well that Latino voters overwhelmingly support PBO, and for the right reasons, but she’s following her orders to make her Latino viewers who are Obama supporters question themselves. Glad that Axelrod wasn’t having any of it.

      April 22, 2012 at 2:20 pm

Iran talks went relatively well. Israel through a hissy fit that their plan to bomb Iran seems to be going out the window, said Iran’s getting a “freebie” because talks are continuing. That gambling tycoon supporting the GOP probably is upset, too. They want to mess up foreign policy, because it’s one of President Obama’s strengths (one of many), and they’ve been successful muddying up the waters by going after the Israel issues.

    April 22, 2012 at 9:46 am

Their main game is to say anything, even when they know better, and hope to get a news worthy reaction that then gets quoted everywhere else in the media. The interest is narrow. Keep ratings up.

    • 130 hopefruit2
      April 22, 2012 at 10:07 am

It’s more than just ratings. There is a concerted effort in the MSM to bring this President down. There are sooooo many scandals in the GOP that the MSM could go after for ratings, but instead they choose to go out of their way to manufacture scandals to tie it to PBO while giving the GOP a pass on everything tells me all I need to know.

Every “report” the media is presented with an intention to embarrass President Obama, make him seem weak, incompetent, disorganized. Yet all of these attributes belong to Mitt Romney who the MSM seems to be reluctant to scrutinize, much less criticize.

      • April 22, 2012 at 10:21 am

I agree! Now, the President also has to send a memo to all involved, to be on best behavior and be professional.
This cannot be overstated, either the President garners no respect from his employees, or they have No respect for themselves.
At any rate, he has to take extra precautions, seeing how the media is so fucking aggressive!

      • 132 EricFive
        April 22, 2012 at 11:46 am

I agree that it is more than ratings at work. I also don’t buy the “horserace” stuff (they never prop up democratic presidential candidates to make the race close). THe MSM and its corporate masters would be happy as pie with a Mitt landslide. They are desperate to help Mitt before it is too late. Notice the MSM is trying to use a poll in which PBO has a 6 point lead over Mitt as being bad news for PBO and marvelous news for Mitt. Some are even calling a 6 point lead for PBO a tie race (just like how, according to the MSM, McCain won or tied all of the Presidential debates in 2008). It is simple psychology, no one wants to back a loser so the MSM is doing all it can to portray Mitt as a “winner” and PBO as perpetually in political peril (even “losing” polls in which he leads). For Mitt to have any chance in this race, the MSM must tarnish PBO’s image, so we have a string of fake controversies all twisted to harm PBO. If we had a legitimate MSM, they would be attempting to find out WHY Mitt leads PBO on the economy (i.e., they would be investigating what it is about Mitt’s economic plan that the public likes and why). They refuse to do this because they know the public has no idea what Mitt’s economic plan is. The MSM knows that Mitt endorsed Paul Ryan’s unpopular budget plan, and that the poll result concerning the economy is most likely an illusion that will evaporate when the people realize what Mitt’s plans are (he can’t hide forever). They refuse to do anything to harm Mitt because they realize how weak he is as a candidate. Imagine what would have happened if PBO filed an extension to file his tax return (they would be calling PBO an uppity elitist who is too good to file his taxes with the common man). Information that is twisted to build support for a point of view is advertising, at its best, and propaganda at its worst. The Fourth Estate is dead.

David Axelrod, a top campaign adviser to President Obama, said comprehensive immigration reform had not occurred during Obama’s first term because the Republican senators who’d backed it during President George W. Bush’s presidency were not willing to stand up and work with Obama.

“A lot of Republicans in Congress want to cooperate, they know better, but they are in the thralls of this reign of terror from the far right that has dragged this party to the right,” Axelrod said on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday morning.

RNC is Right: Romney’s Economic Policies are the ‘Bush plan’

    April 20, 2012

Obama for America Press Secretary Ben LaBolt released the following statement on an RNC spokesperson’s claim yesterday that Mitt Romney’s economic plans are the “Bush plan, but just updated”:

    ———————————–

“Yesterday an RNC spokesperson confirmed what we already knew: that Mitt Romney’s economic policies are the ‘Bush plan just updated.’ Governor Romney has repackaged the same policies that led us into the economic crisis in the first place: giving tax breaks to the wealthiest few at the expense of the middle class and promoting risky financial deals that not only led to the slowest economic growth in a generation but to years of middle class families struggling with fewer jobs and flat incomes and an economic crisis that included a massive elimination of wealth, a collapse of our markets, and rampant job loss. We’ve seen how this movie ends before, and the middle class can’t afford to go back. The President believes we must continue building an economy that lasts, where everybody from Main Street to Wall Street does their fair share and plays by the same set of rules, and hard work and responsibility are rewarded.”

Eclectablog has a great article about President Obama’s ending of the Iraq War – something that both the left and right miss:

// What isn’t reversible is the President’s greatest accomplishment: Ending the Iraq War.

But he gets almost no credit for this. On the right, they say he was just following Bush’s timeline and we should still have troops there to prevent a civil war. On the left, they say he was just following Bush’s timeline and we still have thousands of contractors in a giant embassy. Both sides forget history. As Barack Obama was winning the 2008 election on the issue of the Iraq War, he changed the debate and forced the timeline that Bush adopted.

    From July 18, 2008:
” In a stunning diplomatic breakthrough for Barack Obama, Iraq’s prime minister yesterday endorsed the Democratic candidate’s 16-month timeline for withdrawing combat troops from Iraq.”
    http://www.alternet.org/election08/92115/

The timeline Bush adopted was never Bush’s timeline. It was Obama’s. (That’s why he won the Nobel Peace Prize, in case you’re wondering.) The privatization of the military as described in Rachel Maddow’s Drift made getting out a bit easier. But ending this war was a mission this man adopted as a State Senator and achieved as President. Denying that only reveals your bias. //

        April 22, 2012 at 11:33 am

He must have based his column on info from the alternet story, but it’s not word for word. The only word from the alternet article that Krauthammer used was “stunning.” Other than that they are very different, and Krauthammer’s article is obviously upset with Obama for denouncing the surge while pushing for an end to the war.

Anyway the point of Eclectablog’s piece is that PBO pushed for the Iraq war end BEFORE the Bush timeline and it was Maliki’s endorsement of Obama’s position (16-month withdrawal proposition) in the first place that caused Bush to formulate this timeline, because they didn’t want to jeopardize McCain’s election prospects.

Thanks for bringing this up HF. I remember when that happened during the 2008 campaign, it was stunning and the first time I can remember a presidential CANDIDATE having that much impact on a huge foreign policy issue (that and Sen. Obama’s race speech gave me the first glimpse of how SPECIAL he is). Those on the left who refuse to credit PBO for ending the Iraq war have other agendas or personal issues that cloud their perception of reality (similar to how some on the left twisted themselves into pretzels to NOT give PBO credit for ending Don’t Ask Don’t Tell). As for the right, they don’t give PBO credit for anything, never have and never will. They are small minded.

Basically what Mitt Romney is saying is President Obama is not cleaning up the wreckage of the GWB administration fast enough so the American people should give the Republican Party another chance to implement the policies that got us into this mess. Apparently, he’s just updated the Bush policies. That should be horrifying to the American people.

For Romney, the election is just owed to him. It’s his turn now. He won’t provide more than two years tax returns. He won’t tell you any specifics about how he will improve the economy. You should just take his word for it. His mendacity is legend. He has become a caricature of himself. He’s like jon Lovitz and Pinocchio rolled into one. His entire campaign is built on falsehoods. Although it’s from Old Orange, I think this is highly worth posting & reading. It’s another testimonial on how this administration’s policies actually help ordinary Americans:

// I suspect most kossacks have read about The Obama Administration’s $26 billion mortgage settlement with the big banks. Under this historic settlement, many hurting homeowners will receive interest rate adjustments, or principal writedowns. There will also be cash payments to people who lost their homes and some money will go to the states to fund legal and consumer protection programs.

Well, I benefited from the Obama Administration settlement! I bought my first home in December 2007. I’m underwater, so I couldn’t refinance at today’s low interest rates. Under the settlement, Wells Fargo gave me an interest rate reduction to 4.25%. My payment goes down $115 a month starting May 1st!

Thank You President Obama! That’s why I’m a Democrat! That’s why I vote a 100% Democratic ticket. That’s because I understand without a doubt no Republican would have helped me. I understand without a doubt that no Republican president would have passed the Affordable Care Act. I understand without a doubt that under any Republican Administration, Osama Bin Laden would be alive, GM would be dead, and a million more Americans unemployed. I understand without a doubt that no Republican president will increase the minimuim wage, combat climate change, or appoint people to the SCOTUS who will preserve Roe v Wade. The Republican Party has nothing to offer anybody but the top few. And if you take a long term view, they don’t have anything to offer the top 5% either. That’s why their entire strategy has been to prevent President Obama from passing anything and passing voter ID laws. //

Hi guys, Did you see the story at WashPost about the female SS Agent/Supervisor who sent the male agents home? It gave me hope that she aggressively handled it by the book to keep the president safe. Worth a read:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/secret-service-scandal-rising-supervisor-at-heart-of-uncovering-misconduct/2012/04/21/gIQApy37XT_story.html?hpid=z1

I’m just furious that she had “a rowdy group of male colleagues” in the first place. What could they have been thinking? Their job is too critical in these dangerous times. I would think they could have waited till they were off duty to indulge themselves. And it completely tarnishes the prestige and “the best of the best” reputation of the SS, causes a loss of confidence in their ability to react and respond and perform at the highest level of alertness in order to protect our president and other govt. officials. Horrible lapse in judgment.

Hi TODers! It’s sunday and I acctually have time to make a comment. So…

This could explain the egregious nature of the behavior in Cartagena, as an act of disrespect directed at their new African-American female boss. But kudos to the SS for how they’ve managed this information. You know that if Grassley and the Rethughlicans had known that the Miami Office Supervisor was a black woman, they’d have called her an affirmative action hire and demanded her head. This woman was doing what any new manager does, dealing with the staff she gets and making her management decisions based on performance. Now it appears that it has been the agency’s efforts toward diversity that have saved them. Oh! And what a scoop for the Washington Post!

She has on a tea party gal going on and on about all the virtues of the tea party which is only interested in restoring American ideals and other such garbage, a guy from the Heritage Foundation saying that Hispanics were just flocking to the Repub Party in direct contradiction to all polls. And then she spends her last valuable minutes excusing Willard for the dog on the roof thing, said if he had put his wife or his kids on the roof then maybe it would be something to be outraged about, but a dog??? Who cares? Obviously MHP is not a dog person. With friends like these……… Beyond annoying and maddening.

      Her show is horrible……what a disappointment…….I lasted 2 minutes yesterday…..

She started her show with ” President Obama is Black ”

I bet she gets cancelled before the election.

She was intimidated by Tavis and Cornell! She is only concerned with, not looking like she is an Obama supporter! Which she is!

Jovie – nobody is intimidated by Tavis and Cornell.

My guess is she is afraid of her bosses and that is too bad.

          She coulda been a contendah!

533 x $50,000= $266,500,000. Dear America, if it’s a question of money to keep our country safe from the control of The Billionaires Club, we would be fools not to empty our pockets and our bank accounts to keep President Obama and Vice President Biden in the White House. IMHO. On that note, I am leaving for work, catch up with you later (dream on Pamela!) 😉

I don’t agree. Folks have responsibilities outside of PO’s re-election. Those who are positioned should regardless of the donated amount ($3, $5, $25, $50K) but they can certainly contribute by knocking on doors, talking to friends, total strangers, helping to coordinate the efforts to GOTV (i.e .offer a ride to the polls), educate voters on id laws, educate voters about the President’s policies vs. the Republican policies.

There is no way anyone should empty their pockets to keep ANY President in office. Be responsible, take care of home, your future and give what you can but find alternate ways to bring the vote in November.

We can do this PLUS volunteer because we are definately at another cross roads. We allowed ignorance, greed, and the media to convince many not to re-elect Jimmy Carter. If many democrats had stuck with Jimmy Carter, campaigned for him, volunteered to get out the vote done what ever we could to not put Reagan in the WH we would be looking at a different America today. Many believed no one would put a has been president in the WH, little did we know that they were plotting to make Carter look bad with the Iran kidnapping and holding off until after the presidential election. Myth Robme is the Ronald Reagan for the GOP, not a strong candidate so they need a scandel to upset this campaign…NOT THIS TIME!

Just watched the re-broadcast of Axe on State of the Union. He was great. I have no doubts about PBO’s re-election especially when his team is fighting so hard against the lies.

    • April 22, 2012 at 12:33 pm

Thanks for that reassurance. I think Axe will be even more effective this time around. I also think he’s pacing himself. Just wait!!

Axe, Plouff, Messina and the communications staff are lining up a very effective strategy. Some of the tweets I’ve seen are no hold barred.

Speaking of a scandal the MSM ignored!

    http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/04/22/468913/walmart-whistleblower-mexico/

In this Sunday’s New York Times, the paper revealed an explosive story of high-level corruption at Walmart, aided by a whistleblower’s account of how the retail giant bribed its way to market dominance in Mexico. But unsurprisingly, the Sunday talk shows ignored the scandal entirely.
One former executive told the Times about how Walmart employees brought envelopes of cash to government officials in Mexico in order to boost the company’s expansion:
The Times examination included more than 15 hours of interviews with the former executive, Sergio Cicero Zapata, who resigned from Wal-Mart de Mexico in 2004 after nearly a decade in the company’s real estate department.
In the interviews, Mr. Cicero recounted how he had helped organize years of payoffs. He described personally dispatching two trusted outside lawyers to deliver envelopes of cash to government officials. They targeted mayors and city council members, obscure urban planners, low-level bureaucrats who issued permits — anyone with the power to thwart Wal-Mart’s growth. The bribes, he said, bought zoning approvals, reductions in environmental impact fees and the allegiance of neighborhood leaders.

    CRICKETS!

And—–during the “office politics” segment on msnbc, where they take turns patting each other on the back, Alex Witt interviewed Rachel Maddow. Maddow revealed that she doesn’t care about ANY candidate—-that would include President Obama—–and that she doesn’t care about ANY political party—–that would include the Democratic Party—-that she is only there to be an observer of the events of the world. So—-there you have it—-not exactly a fierce defender for our interests.

      April 22, 2012 at 3:36 pm

So, if she’s just observing, then maybe she should observe from the sidelines. The media is dominated by the GOP talking points and GOP agenda. It’s impossible to find truth online. Objectivity is a dirty word in journalism. And this election is one of the most important in modern times. She’s got a platform that she could use in service of her country, and instead, she chooses to either focus on LGBT issues or parades (or selling her book, for which I can’t really blame her)- instead of helping to restore peace and order to her country. Then she’s useless in this election year, in my opinion. There’s just too much at stake to invest time in people who think the world is rosy right now, while an entire machinery works to take down democracy and this President. She then becomes part of the problem.

        April 22, 2012 at 4:40 pm

I feel like I’m in another world when you all trash Rachel. She’s the best thing liberals have on TV. God bless her and may we have more of her. Nobody tears the rethugs a new asshole like she does, but in an intellegent way that can appeal to a moderate.

        • 230 theo67
          April 22, 2012 at 4:50 pm

And you’re welcome to continue watching Rachel and supporting her. I don’t need the roller-coaster. I agree, she’s mostly good, but because of that massive credibility, it makes her bad stuff carry a lot more damage when she does it. For example, I wouldn’t take anything Dylan Ratigan says as having an ounce of credibility, but if Rachel says the exact same thing – I’ll feel doubly wounded, and I’ll also know that a ton of people who respect her will possibly think she’s speaking the truth. With power, comes responsibility. I’m just taking my bit of power away from her, because I feel she’s irresponsible with it. I’ll use my power elsewhere, where it adds to the battle this year, instead of subtracting from it.

    Hello TODers!!!

I’ll probably post this again either later today or tomorrow as my hope is many will see it and help spread the message – we KNOW our enemy and we will defeat them.

Fortunately Robert Greenwald and Rolling Stone are exposing the Koch Brothers & their ilk – early.

    http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/blogs/national-affairs/the-koch-brothers-exposed-20120420

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-greenwald-and-jesse-lava/top-ten-koch-facts_b_1413499.html

“Accordingly, here are 10 facts that every American should know about who the Kochs are and what they’re doing to our country.

    1. Koch Industries, which the brothers own, is one of the top ten polluters in the United States — which perhaps explains why the Kochs have given $60 million to climate denial groups between 1997 and 2010.

    2. The Kochs are the oil and gas industry’s biggest donors to the congressional committee with oversight of the hazardous Keystone XL oil pipeline. They and their employees gave more than $300,000 to members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee in 2010 alone.

    …….”

By 6 Nov 2012, we want every American to realize that these are the Plutocrats doing vast harm to the Republic and are what must be defeated, resoundingly.
