I remember this event. PBO was shying away from the digging and FLOTUS basically told him to get his ass to work. It was so cute. His shoes were ruined at the end of the day but it was so much fun to watch he and FLOTUS’s interaction and his interaction with the other volunteers.

Saul said Romney backs the Arizona law, known as SB1070, just not as a model for the country.

“Gov. Romney supports the right of states to craft laws that assist the federal government in enforcing immigration laws, particularly when the federal government has failed in its duty to enforce those laws,” Saul said.

In a videotaped interview posted on the Christian Broadcasting Network’s web site on September 15, 2011, Romney does state his support for the Arizona law.

“Well, I support the Arizona law by recognizing what Arizona has done – underscored the failure of the federal government to do its job,” Romney said in the interview.

Kobach sees only clarity in Romney’s position on the law.

“He stated very publicly that Arizona’s law should be a model for how the federal government enforces its immigration laws. And he’s correct there too,” Kobach said.

Not going to fly! The Feds have done more on immigration issues than ANY President for years! Some of whwat they have done, I wasn’t happy with….they have since stopped doing those.

This is a real problem in our area where everything is built around the convenience of cars. Since Republicans take all the local elective offices, we can never get any consideration for bike and walking paths. My husband and I try to walk wherever we can and there are just so many times when we just can’t get there from here because the roads are too dangerous for pedestrians. I hope this movement catches on big time.

      Let’s add to this:)

Representative Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) has been attracting a lot of attention on the Web today — in large part because of the comments she made over the weekend in a radio interview that she has “very little tolerance” for people who graduate from college with huge student loans.

Looking for a bit of context on Foxx and her comments? OpenSecrets.org has it.

First of all, Foxx’s opinion on student loans does matter — she’s a member of the House’s Education and Workforce Committee and chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Training. It’s not one of the powerhouse committees known for helping its members attract a lot of campaign cash, but since Foxx was named committee chair in January 2011, she has become a magnet for campaign contributions from for-profit universities – a recent hot topic on the Hill.

      Fucking batshit crazy woman.Greedy, too.

On Immigration, Romney Needs a Time Machine, Not an Etch-a-Sketch

During the primary campaign, Romney pledged to veto the DREAM Act, which would provide a path to citizenship for the children of undocumented immigrants who attend college; promoted the ugly notion of “self-deportation,” a radical right strategy that aims to purge America of the 11 million undocumented immigrants in our country; and praised Arizona’s anti-immigration laws as a “model for the nation.” Romney also trumpeted the endorsements of an array of anti-immigrant standard-bearers, from Kris Kobach to Lamar Smith to Jan Brewer to Pete Wilson.

However, Romney clearly believes that Latino voters either weren’t paying attention or will believe him when he makes his “conversion” to a more moderate stance on immigration.

      • 140 jackiegrumbacher
        April 21, 2012 at 5:24 pm

LH, Romney always starts from the premise that people are stupid and if he spends enough money he can sell the anything like a conman . He starts from this position because he has no respect for people and therefore thinks he can use them like so many pieces of tissue. He could truly care less what happens to Hispanics as long as he keeps his corporate bosses and rich friends happy. Because he does not see groups of people as even human, he’s assuming that getting their acquiescence to voting for him will be easy and then he can just toss them aside. But most people are on to his game and have no desire to be played and less than zero interest in promoting his sorry rear.

Criquet. don’t think the Obama campaign team is not keeping tabs on all the lies. I was listening to an interview with David Corn yesterday and he iterated how PBO would wait, while too many thought he was being soft, until the rethugs showed their hand, time and again, and he would come up with a killer plan. PBO has always said he is a good counter-puncher. Remember the video where he says “I’ll knock you out” ? So let them parade Bozo around for all to hear and see. I believe PBO’s team has them where they want them. We just have to keep telling the truth.

Memo to Jeb Bush: Unfortunately, Republicans Killed DREAM Act in 2010

“The DREAM vote occurred after the mid-term elections, when members of both parties had a clear opportunity to set aside partisan politics and do the right thing for talented young people who really are Americans in all but paperwork. The DREAM Act would be law today if a few more Republican senators had supported it. Latino voters know it, and they’re tired of the blame game and excuses from the GOP on immigration.”

Romney lies when he tells supporters “I will tell the truth”.

We need to send this Steve Benen post to all of the cable/network stations and reporters. We need to tell them it’s time to call lies lies. They are not fibs. They are lies. We have a presidential candidate basing his entire campaign on falsehoods.

      Chronicling Mitt’s Mendacity, Vol. XIV

Campaigning in Ohio yesterday, Mitt Romney told supporters, without smirking or sounding sarcastic, “If I’m president of the United States, with your help, I will tell the truth.”

Ordinarily, those seeking national leadership positions don’t vow to tell the truth if others help them, but since I am nothing if not helpful, I thought I might give the presumptive Republican presidential nominee a few examples of instances in which he fell short of honesty this week.

Indeed, if Romney intends to “tell the truth,” he can start by reading the 14th installment of my weekly series, chronicling Mitt’s mendacity.

OT but was just moved to tears about a segment on CNN——about that high school kid with Down’s Syndrome in a small town in northern Mi. —-was on the basketball team, usually got to play in the final seconds. Last year he made the most of it in a playoff game, shot and made a 3 pointer and both sides of the stadium stood and cheered—-the story got national exposure. This year he made an extra point during a football game, was carried off the field, stadium cheered. Parents were so moved, kid seemed so proud. And now here’s the problem. Because he was held back a year in elem. school because of his Down’s Syndrome, he will be 19 during his sr. year and has been declared ineligible to participate in h.s. sports. Doesn’t this seem a perfect time when an outdated and inappropriate rule could be amended to allow the decent thing? So far, parents’ appeals have been turned down twice.

  25. April 21, 2012 at 6:29 pm

And the weekly address was s way fir the PRESIDENT to update the populace.
Now, along comes number 44, and Republicans get equal Weekly Address prowess!
Their are many firsts, just like this, to take the bully pulpit away from this President!
That is why, the bully pulpit, at least during this administration, so far, has been somewhat neutralized!
It will help, however, when the President starts to Campaign fulltime, the messaging will finally be advantage the President, because- he is the President!
    That is all!

    • 175 hopefruit2
      April 21, 2012 at 7:13 pm

That’s exactly right Jovie. The media has tried to snatch the bully pulpit from this president in several ways. Apart from the GOP weekly address, we have Meet the Republicans Sunday. Every time the President gives a speech or address to the nation, we have this panel of RW water carriers known as “pundiots” to blunt and distort the President’s message under the guise of “analysis” and “grading.” Even before he speaks they attempt to undermine the effectiveness of his message with constant “advice” about what he should and shouldn’t say, and how this will be his make or break speech. It’s sickening. I’m just optimistic that the American people will send one swift STFU message to the media on Nov 6th.

    Yes, ObamaCares ….

As we approach Nov, the ACA will become an ever bigger reason why people will vote for President Obama especially after they’ve witnessed 6 more months of #KOCHSTERS trying to destroy Medicare, Social Security and ObamaCare …

    This is smart-

Priorities USA, a super-PAC focused on reelecting President Obama, has asked former President Bill Clinton to help them pick up the pace on fundraising.
Democratic donors have been resistant to giving to the group. This is partly because of liberals’ hesitation about super-PACs in general and partly because Sean Sweeney and Bill Burton, the two former White House staffers heading the group, aren’t as plugged in to the fundraising world as those helping some of the Republican groups, which include heavy-hitters like Karl Rove and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R).

Because, Loyal Clinton people are holding back! And they got Bucks!

A top Interior Department official marked the two-year anniversary of the BP oil spill Friday with pledges to continue enhancing offshore drilling safety standards.

Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement Director James Watson penned a column that touts upcoming drilling and workplace safety requirements, which he says will build on standards that were toughened in the wake of the disaster.

Watson, writing in The Houston Chronicle, says this will include measures to “usher in a new generation” of blowout preventers, which are failsafe devices that are supposed to contain undersea well ruptures. The blowout preventer on the Deepwater Horizon rig that was drilling BP’s Macondo well failed to deploy correctly.

    From Watson’s column:

    1) Who Saw This Coming?

Earlier this week Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University announced that Mitt Romney would speak at this year’s commencement and, just as predicted, students at the arch-Christian academy are not unanimously in favor of the idea because they don’t consider Mormons to be “real” Christians.

    2) Pastor Who Called Mormonism a “Cult” Backs Romney

Rev. Robert Jeffress said he’d rather have a Mormon like Romney than a Christian like Obama in the White House.

For those who don’t recall Jeffress’ remarks last October, here’s a refresher. At the time, the reverend, a Southern Baptist, supported Rick Perry, who was then still in the running for the nomination. While introducing Perry to attendees of the Values Voter Summit Jeffress said:
Mitt Romney’s a good moral person, but he’s not a Christian. Mormonism is not Christianity. It has always been considered a cult by the mainstream of Christianity.

DNC: Obama Won’t Make Romney’s Mormon Faith an Election Issue

The suggestion that President Obama’s reelection team will try to use Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith against him is “utter nonsense,” the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee said this week.

“That is just preposterous,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said in an interview with MSNBC on Wednesday when asked about recent comments from Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Mormon himself, who suggested Tuesday that the president’s reelection team is “going to throw the Mormon church at [Romney] like you can’t believe.”

“That suggestion is utter nonsense. Let’s remember that President Obama has had so many things hurled at him—birth certificate questions, whether he is or is not a Christian,” Wasserman continued (via Politico). “For them to suggest that religion will be injected [into the election] by President Obama and the Democratic Party, I mean, I think they need to take a look inward at the accusations that their party and their supporters have hurled before they take that step.”

what is hatch afraid of – stand by your beliefs no matter what people say?

hatch is trying to project onto PBO what the gop has been doing since PBO announced he will be running

hatch and the gop are trying to insulate themselves from questions they hauled at PBO which voters may ask.

we know PBO will not bring religion into the election but the gop opened the door and they should be ready to deal with the crap that walks through from ordinary citizens.

why start a fight you know you can’t want to fight?

now we see that the same republican voters are expressing the same hostility to mitt the entitled liar for just planning to show up at liberty university – bigots versus bigots

      • 246 Ladyhawke
        April 22, 2012 at 12:29 am

Exactly, I like to call it Hatch’s pre-emptive invocation of the ‘MORMON SHIELD”. After calling President Obama every name in the book and questioning his faith, Romney’s faith is “off limits”. Imagine that? Let’s face it, the Republican Party is just morally bankrupt. As far as I can tell, the only people who have any issues with the Mormon faith are REPUBLICANS.

President Obama’s reelection campaign has been rapidly increasing the number of big money “bundlers” collecting checks for his reelection, doubling the number of financiers who have brought in at least $500,000.

The influx during the first quarter of the year shows the president is getting an especially warm embrace from Hollywood and the broader entertainment industry, partly making up for a drop in support from Wall Street after Democrats passed broad new regulations for the financial sector, according to a list of fundraisers released by the campaign on Friday.

      April 22, 2012 at 6:31 am

I love how whenever one door closes for this president, another one opens. The new door often offers wider, bigger opportunities and reward. When Chicago lost its bid for the Olympics and the msm tried to make it a commentary on PBO, he won the Nobel Peace Prize the same week; after the debacle of the mid-term elections, he still managed to outfox congress to save various programs and funding; whenever there was an environmental/weather disaster (BP oil spill, tornadoes, flooding), the msm has been waiting breathlessly for “Obama’s Katrina” but when the various agencies, especially FEMA, out-perform all expectations and no one is complaining, you never hear anything else about these events, it is as if they did not happen. After being called Obambi and not being strong and smart enough to answer the 3 am call, the president out performs as CIC, by getting public enemy #1 osama bin ladin (he deserves only lower case letters) And his lieutenants, ends the Iraqui war responsibiy. Because he treats other countries and their heads of state with respect, he is insulted by being called servile and un-American, but under his leadership the USA is respected and admired again, and our leader is welcome and applauded everywhere he goes (Bush and Cheney cannot leave the country). I could go on, but one of the major accomplishments is that he does all of this while “presidenting being Black.” The haters and racist have thrown everything at him and he presses on because he is the President of the United States for all of our citizens.

You have to consider the possibility that God does not like you, never wanted you, in all probability he hates you. It’s not the worst thing that could happen.
