into the great wide open

Hachikō and Tucker have arrived in Maine…. and Tucker looks right at home.

Wishing them both nothing but happiness and brighter, better days ahead.

Thank you again to all of you who helped make it possible for them to have this fresh start. You know who you are – you’re amazing.

We are all so grateful for what Chips & LunarSea have done. There are no words!

It just occurred to me – is Maine that warm this early – or is Tucker so happy he doesn’t mind the cooler water?!? 🙂

No, it’s not warm at all here. Tomorrow, it’s going to be high of around 40! But, we had just come back from a 3.5 mile hike/walk and he was hot. He waded right in and started drinking the water. 🙂

President Barack Obama, at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich., for a fundraiser on Wednesday, took time out to sit in the historic bus where civil rights hero Rosa Parks refused to sit in the back where African Americans had been segregated.

“I just sat in there for a moment and pondered the courage and tenacity that is part of our very recent history but is also part of that long line of folks who sometimes are nameless, oftentimes didn’t make the history books, but who constantly insisted on their dignity, their share of the American dream.”

      April 18, 2012 at 11:28 pm

I really hope there’s a picture of that historic moment. Reminds me of that quote from Khari Mosely, “Rosa sat so Martin could walk; Martin walked so Obama could run; Obama is running so our children can fly!”. There are a ton of paintings showing either Rosa Parks in a bus on one side and President Obama in the Beast on the other, with that poem. Profound. President Obama sitting in that bus just illustrates so profoundly that things have come a long way, despite the regressives that want to deny it.

Evening TOD. I’ve come off my exile a few times today, but only when I just gotta post something before it kills me…lol

I happened to be watching the Madonna interview on Rock Center, , but now they are talking about Ussain Bolt and the Olympics and I realizing that I kinda can’t wait for the Olympics.

I’m thinking this year, I’m going to go all in. First FLOTUS will be leading the American delegation, it’s in London, so I hope to see an Idris Elba sighting or too, but it’s the few times I can watch track and field and gymnastics and swimming meets without surfing the dial to find a good meet.

    100 days until Olympics…kinda can’t wait.

(President Obama speaks at the Henry Ford Museum Wednesday | Reuters)

President Barack Obama, at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich., for a fundraiser on Wednesday, took time out to sit in the historic bus where civil rights hero Rosa Parks refused to sit in the back where African Americans had been segregated.

He shared his thoughts afterward at a $10,000-per-head reception at a private home.

“I just sat in there for a moment and pondered the courage and tenacity that is part of our very recent history but is also part of that long line of folks who sometimes are nameless, oftentimes didn’t make the history books, but who constantly insisted on their dignity, their share of the American dream.”

  23. April 18, 2012 at 10:02 pm

President Barack Obama touted his decision to rescue the American automobile industry at a pair of fundraisers Wednesday in Michigan.

At a $250-per-person event at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn and again at a $10,000-per-head reception at a private home in Bingham Farms, the president hailed the bailout and tried to draw sharp contrasts with Republicans.

Every GOP candidate opposed the bailout in 2009, with frontrunner Mitt Romney even penning a now-famous op-ed urging the federal government to “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt.”

“Change is the decision we made to rescue the auto industry from collapse,” Obama said at the museum, according to a pool report. “…Between 2000 and 2008 we tried what they’re selling, it didn’t work.”

Obama campaign ‘honored’ to have green groups’ endorsement
By Ben Geman – 04/18/12 11:40 AM ET

The manager of President Obama’s reelection campaign welcomed endorsements from several big environmental groups on Wednesday.

“We’re honored to have the support of the Sierra Club, the League of Conservation Voters, and Clean Water Action and Environment America, and we look forward to working with them throughout the campaign,” campaign manager Jim Messina said in a statement.

The groups are strongly supporting Obama despite some divisions between environmentalists and the White House.

Messina used the occasion to tout Obama’s environmental record in a way that emphasized the economy, which is shaping up as the top issue in the 2012 campaign.

“President Obama is fighting for an economy that’s built to last, and that’s why he’s investing in clean energy and responsibly developing our natural resources in a way that creates good jobs here in America, protects the environment, and reduces our dependence on foreign oil,”

I always attribute stupid remarks about the President not being an American etc. to folks who one could maybe call trailer trash. I just watched short interviews on Huffpo of women going into Ann R’s. birthday bash at the Trump Tower. Beautiful clothes hair etc, but you can’t cover up stupid. Rich wives from Texas, Florida and dumber then pond scum. One talked about how the President isn’t a Christian, at least not her kind of Christian. Damn straight Lady–he isn’t your kind of Christian, and neither am I. Your kind of Christian is racist, selfish, and just plain mean.

And, the point of “Our4thEstate” is to drive the message that ALL of us must become that Fourth Estate and we truly can because we have powerful tools of connectedness. Okay, so apparently I missed the whole blow-up/twitter war about PBO having eaten dog products, whatever, as a child. So tonight as I was waiting thru a commercial break for Chelsea Lately, so I flipped to TBS and Conan mentioned that the latest thing the GOP is after PBO for is the fact that as a child in Indonesia, he ate dog meat. The audiences’ response was silence but he added something else to that comment and they laughed. I laughed inappropriately at the audience’s silence because it’s such a gross(sorry for not being PC) idea (i wuv doggies!!!) and it makes me squeamish and I absolutely love PBO — but eeeeeeew!! I mean it’s actually hilarious in a gross kind of way and I almost felt sorry for the audience but their response (or lack thereof) was too funny. Then I went and looked up articles on the whole eating dog thing and laughed some more. It doesn’t seem to be getting any traction because 1) it’s a cultural thing and 2) he was between 6 and 10 when it happened and 3) PBO is too likable for this bs.

I’m sorry, but I find the whole thing funny. I looked up the quote from the book and apparently, his friend Lolo introduced him to these delicacies as adventurous boys are apt to do. Lolo introduced him to snake meat which PBO described as tougher than dog meat and Lolo even introduced him to roasted grasshoppers. Lolo believed that you could either gain the strength or features(not direct quote) of whatever animal you ate and had promised PBO that one day he would eat tiger’s meat……… I’m sorry, I don’t know what the Willard and his campaign was trying to do( yes I do) but this story seems more ‘Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ than ‘Evil Black Muslim Eats Your Pet—-Watchout Bo.’

    • April 18, 2012 at 11:49 pm

Weigle says the GOP is using this, to prove that the Media did not vet the President properly in 08! Like, they are saying, what else is out there?
      Good grief!

    • 178 itgurl_29
      April 18, 2012 at 11:50 pm

Lolo was actually his stepdad, but yeah, it’s not gaining traction. People are smart enough to know that people around the world eat things that we may not and visa versa. Plus he was a little boy eating what was given to him. In that same chapter, he also writes about his pet orangutan, which was common in Indonesia. Kids in his neighborhood didn’t have dogs growing up, that had orangutans! Yeah, I think by now people get that he grew up partially in an foreign country. That’s only scary to wingnuts, not normal well adjusted folks.

And the website Dogs Against Romney are not alarmed because Barack was a child but Mitt strapping a dog to the roof of his car was a 36 year old man……..Also, they found that muslims in Indonesia don’t eat dog meat as per Wikepedia… Ha..Ha…the Romney train is a failure…

PBO was a boy in Indonesia. Willard and Ann are grown a$$ parents who straped the dog on top of the car. Ann had the nerve to laugh about it in the interview with Sawyer. They are despicable and grasping for straws.

lisa,I heard that lady from CNN, Jenny Most I think that is her name. She did a story about this. But here is the big difference, Barack Obama was a 8 or 9 year old child, a child who was living in a country with his Mother and his stepfather were some people eat things like that, Mitt Romney was a 36 grown rusty man living in the U.S. were no dam sensible grown man put there dog on top of a car for a 12 hour ride. So Romney supports this B.S. of yours won’t work.

Romney supporters will compare what a little child did in indonesia, to what a grown man did in the United States. It shows how desperate Romney supporters are. Prove Barack Obama ate dog meat when he was 36 years old and then we will talk, till then Romney supporters go take a long ride on top of your car.

BRUSSELS (AP) — Several NATO allies promised Wednesday to underwrite Afghanistan’s armed forces after foreign troops depart, as the United States and other nations plan to pull away from the front lines in Afghanistan next year.

U.S. officials were at pains to show that the pressure to close down an unpopular war will not leave Afghanistan’s fragile government and unsteady military in the lurch.

“There is no change whatsoever in the timeline,” NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen insisted.

The messages aimed at different audiences are both challenged by current events in Afghanistan, where insurgents staged an impressive, coordinated attack last weekend that struck at the heart of the U.S.-backed government and international enclave in Kabul. Meanwhile, Taliban leaders are boycotting peace talks the U.S. sees as the key to a safe exit.

U.S. and NATO claims of progress in Afghanistan were overshadowed by publication Wednesday of gruesome photos that purport to show U.S. troops posing with the dismembered corpses of Afghan militants.

I thought the same thing, Jovie. I also thought, (uncharitably), maybe she’s secretly hoping Mitt becomes pro-gay, so she can support him against President Obama without any guilt. The fact that she never apologized for that unnecessary comment about the President will always be a sore point with me, even though I am back to watching her every now and then (given the media desert).

Evening all – Getting ready to turn in and had to stop by and say hey, since I noticed it’s been a while.

It is so wonderful having Hachiko & Tucker here. TOD peeps are just the best. And Tucker is so cute and laid back. I especially like the way he thinks about barking for a minute or two before deciding to go full throttle.

Since my roommate and I both lost our dogs to old age about 1 yr ago the house has been strangely silent of barking sounds and Tucker is just what was needed. So thanks for having such a great dog, Hachiko!

I’m totally enjoying having Hachiko and Tucker here, altho I’ve spent most of my time at work. She appears to be weathering the culture shock just fine. She says she doesn’t even notice the spring peepers (little frogs in the pond) chirpping away in the background so much any more. LOL -Way to go Hachiko!

I’m having a hard time staying caught up on the boards. So much good info. I love coming here for my nightly updates and the best pics of the best PBO in my lifetime. Keep the info and the laughs coming.

I really don’t know how I’m going to make it until election day. I just want it to be November. The wait is so…tough. My nails aren’t going to make it. I just want to reelect him, taunt all my Republican friends and move on to relaxing a bit. I swear, the last thing I think of before bed is this election and the first thing I think of when I get up is this election.

The other night, I actually dreamed it was election day. I was at a friend’s apartment, in the bathroom, going pee! and thinking to myself, “hm, the polls should be closing in an hour or so back east, that means Drudge must published exit poll numbers….” I dreamed Drudge because I remember, around 3:00 my time four years ago, checking Drudge and seeing their banner that, based on exit polls, Obama was winning big (+15 in PA, up in OH). That night was stress defined and I know this go around will be just as stressful. It was just funny dreaming about the election – well, at least waiting for the results. I awoke before I saw who won – or was leading in the exit polls. 😦

              April 19, 2012 at 7:53 am

It is a surprise to me because during a recent Telemundo interview the President explicitly said that he was wholly in favor of immigration reform but his obstacle was the GOP in congress. He challenged the interviewer (who I believe is an activist in the Latino community) that as an activist he should be educating his community about the true obstacles to getting immigration reform so that they can be empowered to go out there, make their demands heard by congress and push the legislators to do the right thing.

I know exactly where PBO is coming from. Many of these so-called activists have been just sitting back and blaming PBO – expecting him to do all the heavy lifting – even things that THEY should be doing, while not lifting to finger to call out the GOP in congress. Then they turn around and lament that he promised this and that and they haven’t seen it. This is unfair and it’s intellectually dishonest on their part.

                April 19, 2012 at 8:10 am

I think the point is that the majority of low information Americans want a “tough” immigration policy, whatever that is, and perceive Romney “tougher” than the Muslim Kenyan socialist. The low information voter has no interest in true immigration reform, they want “toughness”.This is why the poll does not surprise me. “Immigration activists” are not controlling the immigration agenda. Low information voters are controlling the agenda.

                  April 19, 2012 at 8:19 am

Sorry but I don’t buy it. What has Romney done to create the perception that he’s “tough” on immigration policy? And vice versa what had PBO done to create the impression that he’s weak? Especially when the same “Muslim Kenyan” is being perceived as tough and aggressive when it comes to spending, taking away gun rights, raising taxes, etc.

These immigration activists can play a huge roll in educating the said “low information” voters.

                    April 19, 2012 at 8:39 am

You must not have watched the Republican debates nor have you talked with an anti-immigrant biggot. Willard destroyed Rick Perry for suggesting undocumented children should receive in-state tuition. The crowd loved it. You can press your point but the poll shows your argument might not be valid.

Unfortunately few people in our country are capable of changing their minds about anything. Thus we have a 45%-45% split in our electorate.

                    • 222 hopefruit2
                      April 19, 2012 at 8:46 am

You’re talking about a Republican debate – not the country. Romney got applauded MANY times in those debates because it was set up that way. So you can’t use that as a point of comparison.

Furthermore, when Obama leads Romney by 50+ points among Latino voters, it’s hard to believe a right-leaning poll that suddenly has him trailing Romney on issues of immigration policy.

What I suspect is that as of late, the pollsters have been instructed to carefully skew their sample towards white conservative males..as the crosstabs have been showing for several recent polls.

It’s not often that you hear national elected officials and media pundits rooting against a growing American industry — especially when it’s reducing U.S. dependence on imported oil. It’s also unusual for them to argue against job creation, global competitiveness, even against innovation.

Strangely, that’s what’s happening to the U.S. electric vehicle industry.

Of course, it’s not unusual for Republicans who could care less about jobs, global competitiveness and innovation. All they care about is power and rewarding their big oil corporate buddies. We have come to the point where we actually have one party actively working AGAINST the country.

It was in the book written by Senator Obama, and plenty of people read his books, maybe just maybe it was no big deal because first of all they knew Barack Obama was not in Kansas eating dog meat. He was in a country were some people if I’m not mistaken, do eat that. Second of all this was a child who’s parents probably gave him that. A child. Now think about this, Mitt Romney lived in a country were no one with any dam sense place their dog on top of a car for a 12 hour drive. This act was done by a 36 year old adult. So the vetted B.S. is thrown out the window also. When you are desperate you will try anything. Welcome to the Romney camp and his supporters.

The U.S.A has for centuries been looked at as the powerhouse of countries. As a non American (this view is shared by many of us) I (we) have seen that status tumble over the Bush1/Clinton (to a lesser extent) / Bush 2 era. Especially during the Bush 2 period the world became an ugly place quite rapidly. Just prior to 2008 many countries and their peoples were starting to pull away from having to deal with U.S.A. because of what it represented to the rest of the world. It was no longer viewed as a powerhouse (positive) but a Bullyhouse (new word). americas status spiralled downward rapidly. To many countries saw themselves being manipulated into debt, drugs and wars that for the most were totally unnecessary. I could go on and on.
Fastforward to pre-election then election night ……………..the world looked on …..to what was, for most of us change………not only for America but for the rest of us. Barack Obama was that hope. The entire world revelled in his victory. We saw his charisma, his honesty, his sincerity. He provided most Americans and the world population with hope. A hope that the world could be a better place for all of us because like it or not what goes on internally in America affects the rest of us.
He was and still is seen by people who have a brain, who are not racist and who are forward thinking, as the only person who can bring America back to its standing on the worls stage. He brought back the true meaning if diplomacy to the world. countries that were ready to fast pace awat from America were prepared to give another chance and listen ONE MORE TIME.
Then cam the Newts and the Mitts who have no clue as to what real people want, need or have to say and feel that they can put themselves in his shoes, in his class and in his stature.
BEWARE, the world continues to watch. Things can no longer be hidden. Thanks to technology and the instant world taht we have become. If I sneeze in the west someone or more knows about it instantly in the east. If the likes of the Republicans feel that we outside of America have no say (maybe not in the elections) but what goes on afterward. The rest of the world made a fast pace forward while America stood still and rested on its laurels thinking that they were at the pinnacle and that no one else could get there. Think again.
We are waiting and watching and after November’s elections’ results are out the world will either stay its course and continue the dialogue of respect that has been proferred since 2008 or the rest of the world will turn its back if these nitwits get into power. LORD HELP US!
Never again in our lifetime will the world see a leader who commands such respect, who has such brain power, skill, charisma, who is so caring to all…..who is so genuine. I could go on and on. Not ever will we see a union like Barack Obama and his Michelle………….true love at its best. Never again will we see a family unit so genuinely loving and cohesive.
We need the likes of him for four more years (wish we could have more)
I have ranted enough but Mitts and the like are just so annoying they make me feel vomitous. I just had to say my piece this morning.
Have a great day Chips and all TODers wherever you are in this world. May it continue to provide us with all that we need in natural and personal ways!

I find it deliciously ironic that Williard’s son revealed this story as a way to show what a take charge, problem solver, man of action his dad is; but, instead it has revealed a cruel cluelessness about how one treats the family pet. It also further confirms how tone-deaf and weird these people are that they not only thought it was fine to do it in the first place but continue to lie on poor Seamus (R.I.P.) saying he liked it when all evidence points to the contrary. If this family was anywhere close to normal they all would have been sworn to secrecy and that story would never have seen the light of day. They all lack any self-awareness and have no idea how they are coming across to the American people they expect to vote for Williard. It’s stunning.

You have a son welcoming and announcing to the world that his dad has been endorsed by a psychopath, another son, or perhaps it was the same one, who thinks it’s okay to compare the release of his fathers taxes with the release of PBO’s birth certificate, a mother who is as cruel as her husband in regards to Seamus (usually women are thought to be more caring and compassionate). This woman allowed her children to witness this animal abuse, which may be why her son didn’t think about what a terrible insight he was revealing about his father’s character. Ann, in that debacle of an interview, also thought it was perfectly fine to suggest it’s “our turn” to live in the White House. No need for that little thing called an election and no regard for whether the voters agree that it’s their turn. She seems to have disappeared from the campaign trail after that ridiculousness. Even though it was a weak performance by Sawyer, it revealed their hubris, cruelty and breathtaking sense of entitlement and we should be grateful for that. And then you have Williard once again saying something stupid in Pittsburgh, insulting the cookies that were provided for his talk with the voters there. How do you as a guest insult the city’s premiere bakery by saying with a look of disgust on your face, “I don’t know about these cookies. They don’t look like you baked them. They look like they’re from 7/11 bakery or somewhere.” Hey idiot, 7/11 is not a bakery.

These people need to return to 1% land because they have no idea who the 99% are, how they live or what they need in a president.
