a word from japa: think of the children

by Japa

We have all been subjected to seeing Republican leaders, from Boehner to Cantor to McConnell to Romney talk about how we need to get the deficit under control. And their rationale is always the same. “Think of what we are doing to our children and our grandchildren. Think of the burden of debt that will be placed on their shoulders. How can we do this to them, our poor babies?”

And guess what? It works. It resonates with people. It hits people in a spot in their hearts, although obviously not their brains, where they respond in a positive manner to that statement. And that is why President Obama does talk about the deficit. He has to folks, whether or not we think it is a big deal, because people want to know he is taking it seriously.

And why is this important? Because people can’t stand the thought that someday in the future, their children and grandchildren will look up and say, “Why did you do this to us? Why did you leave us so burdened with all this debt?” It is an attempt to erase future feelings of guilt. People still want their children to live in a better world than they did.

But guess what? It is all a load of steaming Bulls__t! Not what people want to feel about the future, but how the Republicans manipulate those desires to reach goals that are totally counter to those wishes. And we need to be able to still address those concerns while at the same time undermining the corrupt message the Republicans are sending.

We need to show that the Republicans, including Romney, don’t give a rat’s ass about our children or our grandchildren. And we need to show people, that if they really are concerned about the welfare of their children and grandchildren, President Obama and Democrats hold the same concerns and will work to achieve the results of letting the children and grandchildren have a chance at a better life……

I doubt that Jovie. He has always talked about 2014, that is what has pretty much been aon by all the allies. But I do think you will see a troop reduction over that time.

      • April 18, 2012 at 8:39 pm

I don’t know! Hillary seems to the right of the President on the War.
But, the Troop reduction will be precipitous until 2014.
Maybe, we will find out more in May?

I’m more than conflicted about Afghanistan. It’s basically in the state it’s in because the superpowers used it as a proxy battleground, then abandoned it when the war was over. The Soviets destroyed the country to kill mujaheddin; the mujaheddin then destroyed it more in their civil war; we bombed what was left after 9/11; and 11 years of our war there and a corrupt government haven’t allowed much rebuilding to be done. The major powers owe Afghanistan a major debt. But, in the end, I just don’t see a military solution. Powers since the Persians and Alexander the Great have tried and failed to conquer that region. And I am less than sanguine that foreign aid will do the trick either. There’s just too much corruption. I just don’t see an easy exit from Afghanistan.

Clearly stated points, ‘grandpa’ Japa! We here all know that the GOP have no real interests in children/grandchildren except their own, but it’s nice to have that outlined like you have done, so that we could print and share should we need to. Pressing on to a November OBAMA/BIDEN landslide. 😆

Ed Schultz just did something terrific before his interview with Bob Shrum. He showed side by side pictures of President Obama talking to workers today in Ohio and Mitt Romney talking to voters in Pennsylvania yesterday. The contrast is just amazing. President Obama was in his element. Warm, charming, engaged and connecting with people. Mitt Romney looked stiff and at a loss for words. The hand picked Republicans gave Mitt a bit of truth about the stimulus, the need for education and the need for taxes. Imagine that?

Ladyhawke, I bet the Romney camp claim those weren’t really Republicans, the Dems planted some liberals. As I said before it must be real, you have to have a heart, and it’s clear Mitt Romney doesn’t. Romney sit there all fake and phony when those people were talking. President Obama would have listen, showed that he cared and try to give the people answers. He would show the people that he understand what they are going through. I love the line in one of today’s speech were President Obama said that he wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth, neither was Michelle.j

How do you guys paste tweets over here? Saw a disgusting tweet quoting Ted Nugent and I want everyone to be able to retweet it.

Ted Nugent on apartheid in S. Africa: The black ppl “are a different breed of man…You give them toothpaste, they fucking eat it.”

itgurl-29, are you sure Nugent said that? Because I will email the media and see what they have to say about this. See what Mitt Romney has to say.

There is something about this article that doesn’t sit well with me – at all. Mr. Silver appears to be detailing the Obama ground game as much as possible, including how much salaried staff are being paid, while saying very little about Romney’s (dishonest) game of Wall Street/Casino/Koch/ buying up votes and suppressing the ones they can’t buy. It’s almost like he wrote this article to tell Romney and the GOP, here’s what Obama is doing, these are his resources, and this is how you can match/beat him to win the election in 2012. A politician’s biggest asset is his ability to convince people that he’ll do right by them once elected. And Romney is not there – far from it and no amount of money or opening of offices will get him there if folks can find a video of him saying two opposite things on just about every damn issue out there. The MSM is neglecting this factoid. In fact, when PBO was 20 points down from Hillary and trailing John Edwards back in 2007, the one area in which he beat both Hillary and Edwards was the issue of “trust.”

      That is still true today.

Nate Silver sold his independence, authenticity, objectivity, and credibility to the NYT. I no longer pay attention to anything he says/writes.

Ted Nugent is so repulsive, there is nothing he can say that would be suprised. And those dopes that stand there listening to him. Has anyone ever called him on it, before now? I persnally hate guns, have always been afraid of guns & living outside Chicago, all the killings of innocent people, and children. And, the same with Mexico, all our guns down there, helping their violent killings over drugs, power, etc. My Mom lives between Waco & Dallas, and there are many people with this same attitude about guns. I wish people would evolve enough to get the guns the hell out of our lives.
Chips, I saw that email contact to you, & I also have to ask you something. Thanks.

I got a tweet yesterday from a knucklehead defending (not one of my followers) Nugents attack on POTUS with the comment that he (the tweeter) served 21 years in the military for his & Ted’s right to free speech.

I responded that I too served in the army & know for a fact that he didn’t learn to hate & exclude people from the military.. and that go ahead and be proud of pushing hate & violence against other human beings. Anyhoo I don’t play with these fools.. they got one chance with me and then they’re blocked.

Its like I told a guy on twitter yesterday who stated that ‘most’ US Presidents (including Obama) are war criminals: If you’re starting a convo w/ that premise then seriously, we have no where to go a& nothing to discuss.. otherwise Pres Obama is not a war criminal and you and I have nothing to talk about. conversation over.

// BETHEL PARK, Pa. — Bethel Bakery is having some fun with a “CookieGate” special after a slight from presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.
Romney met with local residents Tuesday at an outdoor roundtable event at the Bethel Park Community Center. He guessed that a plate of cookies set on the table was from “a local 7-Eleven bakery or whatever.” //
