commies!

You don’t often see Daily Kos linked around here – well, not since it became Firebagger Central. But this Conceptual Guerilla diary is a gem, so I’ll break the habit of a lifetime and link to the place.

The gist: CG got an email from “a guy who used to call my radio show over in Jacksonville” who described every Democrat as a “communist”.

This was CG’s reply:

That’s right, Rod.  Every Democrat is a communist … going all the way back to 1933 when FDR set up New Deal Communism. That would be the same New Deal communism you grew up under. The New Deal Communism that made us the richest, most powerful nation in history. The New Deal Communism that took us to the moon just 36 years after FDR was sworn in.

Let me show you the track record of those New Deal Communist Democrats.

Communist Truman left 2.5 percent unemployment to Eisenhower.

Republican Patriot Eisenhower left recession and 6.5 percent unemployment to Kennedy.

Communist Johnson left 3.5 percent unemployment to Nixon.

Republican Patriot Ford left recession and 7.5 unemployment to Jimmy Carter.

Communist Carter wasn’t able to improve much on the recession he inherited . . .

… and neither were Republican Patriots Reagan and Bush, who left recession and 7.2 unemployment to Bill Clinton.

Communist Bill Clinton left 4.2 percent unemployment to Dubya . . .

Republican Patriot Dubya left recession and 7.6 percent unemployment to Communist Barack Obama.

No Republican Patriot ever left office with unemployment under 5% …. including Reagan. No New Deal Communist ever left office with higher unemployment than they inherited …

More here

And this is CG’s video – be warned, it contains Rush Limbaugh, but it’s brilliant:

Since I have missed the entire rise and shine, I’ll say hello here then pop back in time…. Of which I have a little to spend before I hit the road!

Seriously, Chips, dKos is no longer firebagger central. Are there still the whiners? Yeah, but the noise is way, way, way down and there are often issues in depth that are worthwhile. The pro-Obama people far outweigh the whiners and there is constant pushback.

I’ll go there once a day so you don’t have to.

      Hi, 57andfemale!

    • April 14, 2012 at 9:44 am

I’ll take your word for it 57, it’s just not a place I want to visit any more, unless it’s for a brilliant diary like this. I’ll never forget what they allowed that site become and how PBO supporters were treated. Those people were much worse than ‘whiners’, they were poisonous.

not to mention what they did to BWD. Unforgivabale

        • April 14, 2012 at 9:49 am

Exactly Aristac. Argument and debate is fine, but all that abuse and venom? It became as ugly as any right wing site I ever visited.

Were you ever a ‘kossack’, chips ? If no, you should try it. It’s really, really fun. You can trust me, cross my heart.

            April 14, 2012 at 10:34 am

Forgiveness is good for the soul and if they have changed, why hold on to grievances from the past? I don’t blame BWD for staying away but as I have said before in previous posts, I just can’t be mad at everyone, all the time. But maybe, that’s just what I need to survive with my heart and soul intact in this crazy world.

            • April 14, 2012 at 10:45 am

But it’s not a question of holding on to grievances, Edwina, I don’t give DK any thought at all any more, the site is what it is, not my cup of tea! I prefer to focus on blogs and writers who never had agendas against PBO, and when they criticised him or his policies it was for sincere reasons. That’s all. My soul’s fine, honest 😉

                April 14, 2012 at 10:57 am

I believe that about you personally, Chips, you are most definitely a great soul. My motivation for coming to your site has always been to find news of Obama and his accomplishments, not to be exposed to constant railing against the enemy du jour. So, that’s just me and I am out for awhile but bless you for all that you continue to do on behalf of our great president.

We all make choices based on what works for us personally. And personally what I need to survive with my heart and soul intact in this crazy world it to stay away from DKOS

Completely understand. We lost 2010 in part to that kind insanity. But it’s where I’m finding some really excellent information. I try to find the original source and link to that, if possible. And if it’s really, really good I will link it here. But I’m being very careful. And if they start to get at all nutsy I’m gone.

Let’s be real, when have America ever been together? When blacks were on their side of town and whites were on their side. When blacks and women had no right. All we can hope and pray for is for the decent minded people not to lose their common sense. The Republican Party is rule by racists, their base is largely racists, not all. But these people have taken off their white hoods and stamp their racism on their chest. Because a black man is in the Oval Office.

That is true. But we used to have a media that understood simple truths and did their jobs without false equivalency and agendas. It’s the destruction of the media that gives cover and legitimacy to the nutcases. I will never forgive Bill Clinton for the Telecom bill and the institutional hate it unleashed on this country.

And let us all remember, the tax rate after WW II was 91%. We paid down our debt, which was worse than today, % wise! And the middle class prospered.
Until, trickle down economics came along and fucked up our Nation.
    True story!

    • April 14, 2012 at 10:20 am

Reagan was one smoth salesman to convince millions of people to vote against what had actually worked in favor of one the most bogus schemes ever invented.

      • 67 57andfemale
        April 14, 2012 at 11:32 am

Times were different. We had had virtually uninterrupted Democratic rule for a couple of generations. As liberal as I am, I remember thinking that maybe trying it a different way was worth a chance (NO!!!! I did NOT vote for Reagan or any Republican). But instantly it was clear that Reagan had no intention of actually changing the amount of money we spent, but just shuffled it to the rich and away from the middle class and spending with abandon to enrich his buddies. And yes, he was a smooth salesman. To think that his happy dippy persona was actually Alzheimer’s is terrifying. It all started with Reagan opening the door to the religious right to political power and the dangerous conflation of the religious right with business interests.

        • April 14, 2012 at 12:38 pm

I remember that 57. The country as a whole was looking to change directions. The failed hostage rescue did not help matters nor did the stalemate between Carter and the Democratic Congress with Ted Kennedy’s stupid idea to primary The President of his own party the cherry on top.

A little OT, but I loved the headline from the first paper: Cartagena, Capital of the Americas….that is because OUR President is there. Those people know that where he goes, the power goes. His visit will do much for the relations between Latin America and the U.S. This is a relationship we MUST build in a positive way.
Many, many years ago, in a course on Latin American history, the professor said that we had shamefully neglected our neighbors to the South, and that neglect would come back to haunt us. President Obama, being the scholar he is, knows this, and will work to bring the relationship to a much better place. He will need the co-operation of Congress…..and we can help him with that.

    • 73 LunarSea
      April 14, 2012 at 10:08 am

Yes, these past few years he has really been working to unite the Americas north and south. Rather quietly. The shift in attitude and attention will be the best thing to happen to America if we can really put the ‘otherness’ aside and treat each other as the neighbors we are. (looking at you teabaggers and GOP)

This is the first such shift in thinking since WWII. We can’t let the GOP stay or they will break it as they do everything they touch

Exactly. I say, If that’s Communism, then bring it on! It’s a far better business model, creates prosperity for more people, takes care of Americans the way they deserve to be.

U.S.-Pakistan relations took a leap forward on Friday, when Islamabad agreed to a plan to reopen vital supply routes to American and coalition forces in Afghanistan.

The plan bars any private security contractors from working inside Pakistan and bans the United States from carrying out “overt or covert operations” within the country’s borders, according to news reports.

The communism or socialism card always drives me insane. I loved the analysis recently that showed that if you had started out with $1000 to invest in the stock market and only kept it in during one party’s time in the White House (meaning put it in during Nixon/Ford, pull it out during Carter, put it back in during Reagan/Bush, pull it out during Clinton, etc.), your $1000 grew to $2000 during the Republican years.

The same $1000 grows to almost $13,000 during the Democratic years, even under that noted Socialist, President Obama.

How do people like Allan West live with themselves? Their noses must be so stopped up, the can’t smell their own bullshit.

An analysis of the state-by-state race to 270 electoral votes, the total needed to win the presidency, and where Democratic incumbent Barack Obama and likely Republican nominee Mitt Romney stand now. The numbers reflect electoral votes:

    SOLIDLY DEMOCRATIC (186):

California, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.

    LEANING DEMOCRAT (56):

Michigan (16) — Despite lingering economic pain in auto capital, Michigan has large minority and union voting blocs that favor Obama. Romney, a native son whose dad was governor, won the GOP primary but his opposition to 2008 auto bailout will hurt him.

Minnesota (10) — Low unemployment and a long streak of Democrats carrying Minnesota give Obama confidence. But Minnesota was competitive in 2000 and 2004, and includes a length of the Mississippi River Valley, among the Midwest’s most pivotal swing regions.

Pennsylvania (20) — Typically an early battleground, Pennsylvania has tipped Democrat in the final month in recent presidential races. Romney continued campaigning ahead of the April 24 primary before effectively sealing the nomination Tuesday. But a nearly 1 million Democratic edge in voter registration makes the state a reach for the GOP.

Wisconsin (10) — Ronald Reagan was last Republican to carry Wisconsin; Democrats eked by in 2000 and 2004. The June recall of GOP Gov. Scott Walker over anti-union legislation will test labor’s strength. If Walker is retained, Romney could be competitive.

I am the author of the diary from which this quote [and video] was drawn. I wanted to thank you for posting it, and also for your kind remarks. I am also the Director of the film MEGA-DITTOS!!! — The Tea Party Cult. The clip is a montage of questions contained in the film, which is available on-demand in it’s entirety at the film’s site

We also have a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for a summer tour.

I also wanted to weigh in on the comments regarding the present state of Daily Kos. I totally understand your aggravation. Last summer I took some time away from finishing the film to help with the pushback over there. Since the Presdent’s speech unveiling his “Jobs” agenda in September, the tone has steadily improved. When the House GOP found itself outmaneuvered at the end of the fall, thanks to the terms of the debt ceiling deal, many at the Kos community finally started to see that the President was perhaps a better chess player than they thought. Recently tightening poll numbers have them understanding the difficult political environment progressives face. I am look forward cautiously to even greater unity as the election approaches.

Thanks again . . . and keep those stunning photo’s and video’s coming.
