The way that Latina women, like Maria Clemencia Roderiguez, keep their names is actually a big advantage when they vote. Under the new photo ID laws, married women whose names don’t match their birth certificate have to bring a marriage license and possibly a death or divorce certificate if they’ve been married more more than once, which is, needless to say, a big hassle. Spanish women don’t have that problem, which will actually make it easier to register Hispanic women. Also those that have families in their native countries usually have US issued passports; those from Puerto Rico almost always have birth certificates because voters are required to show them each time they vote in PR. It will make the Rs sick to learn that some of the people they wanted most to disenfranchise will be able to vote easily. Those having a harder time are the elderly who no longer drive and can’t easily get to a DMV. Irony of ironies is most of this elderly population votes R in my area. Sometimes those unintended consequences can bite you in the rear.

Crossroads GPS gave nearly $4 million to the National Federation of Independent Business, a plaintiff in the case seeking to overturn President Obama’s signature health care law.
The payment of $3.7 million to the National Federation of Independent Business was nearly a quarter of the roughly $16 million distributed to conservative groups by Crossroads, an organization co-founded by Karl Rove, according to the Washington Post.
Crossroads also gave $4 million to Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform and $2 million to the National Right to Life Committee, the Post reported.
The National Federation of Independent Business joined 26 states in challenging the health law’s constitutionality. A spokeswoman for the federation did not immediately return phone and email messages seeking more information about the Crossroads funding and whether it was used to help mount the lawsuit.

CARTAGENA, Colombia — The U.S. military says five service members supporting the Secret Service in advance of President Barack Obama’s visit may have been involved in inappropriate conduct and have been confined to quarters. Obama is in Colombia for a Summit of the Americas.
White House spokesman Jay Carney said the incident with the military personnel stems from the same episode involving about a dozen members of the Secret Service who were called back to the U.S. for an investigation into possible misconduct.
Carney referred questions about the episode, which includes allegations that U.S. personnel procured prostitutes, to the Secret Service and to the military.
Carney said the president retains confidence in the Secret Service and said the incidents under investigation, which preceded Obama’s arrival, had no impact on presidential security.
And all the news programs are showing President Obama in Columbia as they report this story, as if it had any connection to him or he was responsible. That is all. No other info or purpose of trip reported.

The media firewall has produced an electorate that lacks the information they need to make informed choices. What is frustrating is that Mitt Romney is essentially basing his entire campaign on falsehoods. It’s really astonishing. The media is complicit in this dishonesty. My Prime Minister is also attending the Summit of the Americas. The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago that is.

I remember when PBO gave the speech on the Romney-Ryan budget he talked about the problem of reporters creating fake equivalence between the parties. And now this clip shows him giving Tweety a bit of truth about him and his colleagues here in the USA. You certainly get the feeling that PBO and his team are pretty fed up with the media penchant for controversy for controversy sake. I am sure the jackals tongues were flapping over this incident with Tweety. But they are more interested in reporting about the SS problem then reporting on the purpose of President Obama’s trip. Seriously, they should be ashamed of themselves.
