    Oh bloody hell:

North Korea has launched a long-range rocket, according to South Korea’s defence ministry.

The planned launch has been widely condemned by the international community, which has accused North Korea of trying to develop its military technology.

Pyongyang says that the rocket will peacefully advance its space programme.

Japan and South Korea have warned that they will shoot the rocket down if it enters their territory.

South Korean Defence Ministry spokesperson Kim Min-seok told reporters that the rocket has been fired at 07:39 local time (22:39 GMT).

A United States official told the Reuters news agency it was “confirming the rocket launched”.

Uh huh, and with the NK rocket lauches, the real world trumps stupid…like I said earlier today, there is just not enough oxygen to fuel the minor fires that these non-traversy try to do.

Rosen-gate is already losing steam, and Romney choice is to talk about Ann or discuss foreign policy, my guess, that’s it for Rosen-gate.

Vice President Biden drew a sharp contrast with Mitt Romney over tax policy Thursday, saying the presumptive Republican presidential nominee wanted to “double down on tax cuts for the wealthy” and was “out of step with American values.”

Biden was speaking in New Hampshire, a battleground state where Romney — the former governor of neighboring Massachusetts — is expected to challenge the president in the fall. This was the fourth in a series of campaign speeches in which Biden has looked to draw distinctions between the candidates’ plans for the economy.

Speaking of North Korea. I was watching MSNBC last night on a (probably illegal) website, and the picture kept switching like this:

I recorded it after a while so I could check back to see that I hadn’t actually gone mad.

    Kim Jong-un meets Ed Schultz.

    A highly peculiar experience.

The President hasn’t released a statement on the N. Korean missile failure yet, because he had to finish answering another question about his opinion of working vs. stay at home Moms. (Snark, of course. Just goes to show how stupid this whole story has been)

      What a strange day…

I’m praying that the President continues to be blessed with superhuman composure and wisdom.
It’s at times like this volatile moment with North Korea, that I am most grateful to have someone in our White House who is so deft in handling these complex matters.

The Silicon Valley Berryessa Extension Project will bring transit service to downtown San Jose and Santa Clara County, relieving highway congestion and giving commuters the option to leave their cars at home.  The extension includes the construction of two new stations, in Milpitas and Berryessa, and the purchase of 40 new passenger rail cars.
And according to BART, the project will create more than 2,500 construction-related jobs.
This is a big win for the region – creating thousands of construction-related jobs, spurring millions of dollars in new residential, retail, and commercial development out to Silicon Valley, and reducing congestion and saving gas as more drivers decide to take transit.
As Administrator Rogoff said, “investing in transit is about putting people back to work on projects like these that will allow Americans to keep more of their hard-earned money instead of suffering pain at the pump.”

  15. April 12, 2012 at 7:43 pm

I just saw this on twitter:

Axelrod to John King (CNN): “She is not our employee, she’s yours.”

    • April 12, 2012 at 7:45 pm

David Axelrod suggested Thursday that the Romney campaign jumped on Hilary Rosen’s comments “like a raft in the deep blue sea” as they drown in “their own problems.”

“It was an unfortunate comment,” Axelrod said on CNN’s “John King USA,” following up on a Wednesday night tweet in which he described Rosen’s remarks — made on CNN — as “inappropriate and offensive.”

Axelrod reminded King that Rosen is “your employee, not ours.”

Though some Romney supporters have identified Rosen as an Obama adviser, Axelrod noted that “she works for CNN. CNN, I think, wouldn’t allow her to be an operative for our campaign or the DNC.”

The president, vice president, first lady and several other top Obama advisers have all distanced themselves from Rosen in the last day, and Axelrod said that though Rosen is an Obama supporter, Team Obama did what was right in speaking out against her. “I think we have an obligation in politics and public life when someone, even friends, say things that are inappropriate to say so. In fact, in certain ways, when your friends say it, there’s more of an obligation to do so,” Axelrod said.

….. “I’ve been disappointed on the other side of the aisle just recently when things happened where Governor Romney and others were not willing to stand up and denounce speech that most people would call inappropriate,” he said, in an apparent reference to Rush Limbaugh’s comments on Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke.

Mo’nin’ Ms. Chip and all TODers

Oh, yes….Larry, who has been doing St. Louis news for YEARS, is a well known local RW Evangelical and was the local FOX anchor affiliate before coming to KMOV – the local CBS affiliate. Indeed, one KNEW where this was going with the lead in. One could see Connors’ disdain for PBO by his saying that PBO “made his pitch” vs something along the lines of that PBO explained his position. And, when PBO pushed back on Connors and his “viewers” (did you note PBO’s laugh? that, to me, was the “tell” that PBO KNEW what was up with Connors. I mean, REally….a news anchor is gonna hear from more people than the President of the United States???) Connors, clearly showing how he really is, makes more comment outside and away from PBO. Yep…..this IS who he is/they are. This IS Missouri, Ms. Chip where we just had one of our Representatives express her “doubts” about the President’s birth certificate. Hopefully, your blood spitting is over and bp has returned to normal. Don’t miss that vacations and Ann Romney seem to be all they have – which is NOTHIN’. We press on!!

          • April 13, 2012 at 9:24 am

Thanks for that info Blackman. I’ve seen some disrespectful interviews with PBO in my time, but I think this one beat them all. Connors just dripped with contempt, it was absolutely disgusting. And the vacation thing? As I said, we know the undertone there all too well: lazy black guy living it up at the tax payers’ expense. But you’re completely right, **** ’em all, let’s press on. Thanks Blackman.

Is that Larry Conners douche bag aware that Bush took a 1//3 of his presidency as vacation while starting two wars, ignoring a drowning city, destroying the economy and having the worst ever terrorist attack on US soil? They don’t want to go there.

      • April 13, 2012 at 12:05 am

Oh hell yes. Chips, PLEASE Forgive me. But my pressure is High. I checked it because I felt my heart beating like…oh well. This man is a piece of shit that you do not even want to let fall in your toilet.

I lived with this kind of scum shit each day growing up in the deep south. I could see my dear uncles in POB’s face and demeanor as he was answering the insulting shit ass questions from this piece of scum. I watched my uncles(highly educated) men have to go through this shit, and I am so old now to have to see it so often now with our dear President. This shit really hurts, if any of you know what I am talking about.

I apologize to my TOD Family and especially Chips, tonight. I could not take it any more. I had some awful people to deal with today on matters of Mrs. Romney, so I was Not ready for this stack of s…load. I am so sorry, if I have offended anyone here tonight, but I am so sick and tired of thiese scum behinds talking to POB like he is their “boy”, plain and simple. I wanted to throw my computer out of the window, but I cannot afford that. But this shit just gets to me when I see it coming off so boldly and so disrespectful to President Obama.

I am drinking now, Chips. I know. But you have to do what you have to do, otherwise, my brother would have to come out here and get me out of jail. I am so tired of these s…heads. Oh, I need to stop. I am sorry. But it just pisses me off to a level that I can’t hold it any longer. Forgive me, Chips.HZ

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rick Santorum may not be ready to endorse Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign. But he and his staff are certainly moving swiftly to clean up potential points of friction between him and the former Massachusetts governor.

The Santorum campaign’s website has been wiped clean of all content directly critical of the now de-facto Republican nominee.

A page that declared Romney to be the “proud defender and author of “Obamneycare” has been replaced by an “Access denied” message. The same is true for a post with a video of Romney declaring that his only connection to the Republican Party was his registration.

Ditto for a page outlining an attack Santorum made against Romney for supporting the Wall Street bailout, another criticizing the former Massachusetts governor for his various flip-flops, yet another attacking Romney for his support of mandates, and a press release that accused Romney of being a Democrat.

oh. you’re a better person than me. I don’t condone publicly going after Mrs. Money for the same reason that happened today: the sympathy factor. But i don’t hesitate in private (as private as this blog can be 🙄 ) to talk about what an addle-pated nincompoop she is and how she’s just as sleazy as her rotten husband. Thinking it’s okay for her asshole husband to spew lies as long as they pray about it. I don’t know what show I was watching last week and some reporter who follows the Willard campaign is writing an e-book series on behind the scenes stuff. He told the host of the show which could only be Martin, Ed or Lawry (can’t remember which) that when Willard was hesitant of telling lies when he was debating St. Rectum and Mankini, Mrs. Money pulled him aside, they prayed on it and then decided that lying was okay. WTF? which God do these toolbags serve?!!!! On what planet do they think God is okay with lying for any reason much less self-serving ones?!!! Look, I believe there is something out there. I’m not religious but I believe in God, you just won’t catch me feeding into organized religion. The kind of God I grew up believing in would never sanction the bullshit Mr and Mrs Money engage in. I mean, I’ve told more than a few doozies but you would never catch me bringing God’s name into it much less saying: “Willard honey, I’ve prayed on it and God says it’s alright to lie and say St. Rectum is an undercover ‘D. E. M. O. C. R.A. T’ and that PBO is a lying Muslim sympathizer with Mau Mau connections.” —— seriously?! These fuckers and by fuckers I mean Willard and Ann, really need to get what they deserve.

        • April 12, 2012 at 8:45 pm

This story about the Romney’s praying on their lying doesn’t surprise me at all because that’s exactly what I imagined they did.

          • 139 lisalovesobama
            April 12, 2012 at 8:54 pm

let me clarify, the word the reporter following the Willard campaign used wasn’t lying it was attacking. Willard was hesitant about **attacking** he other beauty queens but Mrs. Money took him aside and they prayed about it. However, given that most of Willard’s attacks were based on lies, then essentially they prayed to God about it being okay that they lie to get ahead.

What got me was that Ann Romney made it all about herself today. It never occurred to her or a campaign advisor to pay an ounce of lip service to the women who really struggle. There is something pathologically frightening about the Romneys. They are incapable of acknowledging a world at all different from their privileged experience.

          THIS x INFINITY²

  23. April 12, 2012 at 8:00 pm

President Obama’s top economic adviser Gene Sperling got heated in a Tuesday interview on CNBC, when anchor Maria Bartiromo pressed him on the federal budget. The exchange was so explosive that CNBC re-aired the interview on Wednesday — in celebration of holding officials to account and setting the record straight for the public.

There were just a couple problems: Bartiromo initially elaborated on a false premise, and her subsequent line of questioning treated a GOP political stunt as if it was standard operating procedure on Capitol Hill.

“How tough has it been operating without a budget?” Bartiromo asked. “This administration has not had a budget in 3,000 days. Why is it that the president puts forth the budget and not even one Democrat bought into it? Was it so reckless in terms of spending that your party actually couldn’t even buy into it?”

This conflates two different conservative lines of attack, but in doing so gets the budget process backward. Every year by law, the White House issues its own budget, but it is, for all intents and purposes, a detailed list of suggestions — not a legislative package Congress is expected to vote on, as Bartiromo implied. Congress is where actual budgeting happens, and on the Hill, Republicans are fond of attacking Democrats for not passing a budget in three years. It’s a technically accurate, though dubious line of attack — one that may soon be moot. But it’s gridlock on Capitol Hill, not anything proposed by Obama, that has prevented the government from operating on a traditional budget.

Well, the people of Arizona just voted for Jan Brewer to be their governor, even after her nonsense of dead bodies in the desert, not answering questions, passing that horrendous immigration law, eliminating critical funding for important initiatives. It’s not like Walker, who campaigned on different stuff. They knew what they were getting – so they now have to live with it. I don’t have a lot of sympathy left for people who don’t vote, or vote for Republicans and then get *shocked* at the consequences. Republicans are now telling us exactly what they stand for, what they’re itching to do and just how far they’re willing to go to enact their draconian agenda. I mean – Rick Santorum was the #2 frontrunner for President! That’s all we have to say about the craziness and apathy of people in the electorate. And the fact that some people on the left can still complain about President Obama, or demand that he jeopardize the election by raising potentially inflammatory issues at this point in time (after he’s accomplished wonders already) – I have little patience.

Yes, beautiful Prettyfoot. Thank you so much. Chipsticks. It also helped me to calm my emotions and feel so much of the joy that we all have not been able to really enjoy after working so hard to get him elected. I was looking, listening, and thinking how huge a deal to have accomplished what we all did. We elected a brilliant, caring, loving, compassionate, hardworking, man who happens to be of like none of the 43 men who came before him in this office of President of the United States of America. We Did That!!!!!!

Then I was thinking how we have never had the wonderful opportunity to really allow it to sink in and really enjoy what we did because of the BIG MESS that he inherited and from the get-go had to jump right in and start putting out fires. We have not had the Real Experience of enjoying our accomplishment. This is a BFD!!!!!!!

BUT I do believe that We Will Get the Great Opportunity this time to Really Enjoy our Accomplishment when we re-elect him on Nov.6, 2012. This will be our complete happiness. Thanks again, Chipsticks.((((((((( Thank you))))))))))))))HZ

I call him the silver tongued devil. He whipped John King all up side the head during that interview. He gave him a bit of truth. It was a thing of beauty. “She’s your employee, not ours”. This is why I expect eventually the truth will come out: to claim he is “only” worth about 250 million is so false…. I am at the very bottom of the 99%, but in view of the kind of money the wealthy control, 250 million is really not so much. Eg: Bill Gates is worth like 38 BILLION or so, Warren Buffet even more. Now, that is a lot of money. Myth’s lies will sink him, before long. I will enjoy watchng it happen. In a compassionate way, of course.

Vice President Joe Biden appeared to be winning over women voters one at a time Thursday, turning on the charm in an unscheduled appearance at The Works Bakery Café in Portsmouth, N.H.

JoAnn Niedzielski got a hug from Biden, according to a pool report. “I told him that I always wanted to meet him and he said, ‘No woman has ever said that to me,’” she said.

Biden spent his day campaigning in the Granite State and made a surprise appearance at the café on the way back from his speech at Exeter Town Hall. As he made the rounds, Biden doled out hugs and joked with patrons.

“He actually greeted everyone,” Niedzielski said. “He sat down with people and hugged children.”

After the bakery chit-chat, Biden greeted his friend and former Portsmouth Mayor Eileen Foley, reportedly giving her a kiss. When she joked, “that’s enough,” Biden responded: “That’s what all women said to me. It’s like at home.”

Foley’s daughter said she and her mother are big Biden supporters.

“She’s his biggest fan,” she said, “and I’m a close second.”

I missed the entire kerfuffle today but I’m going to throw in my two cents worth. The wife’s job may carry the Health Insurance benefits. There is often a choice to be made about whether to stay home with a child or go to work to provide the health insurance the family needs. If the husbands job provides both good money AND good benefits, that’s great. In my case hubby works for the money and I work for Healthcare. Even if I had several kids and daycare was more than my wage (not the case, thankfully I just have one). I would still need to work for the healthcare. Which is one more reason I love Obamacare. People like to talk about freedom. Uncoupling healthcare from employment would give so many more women increased flexiblilty and more real choices. If there are those who think that staying home and raising children is the right thing to do, they should be supporting ACA because it makes that choice a possibility for more women. I would think that the bishops would be all in favor of it 😉

WoS, you nailed it, but “the Bishops” don’t want anything that would allow women “increased flexiblilty and more real choices”

That would imply that women actually have needs and desires separate and apart from men. HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST THAT!!

      • 234 Walking_on_ Sunshine
        April 12, 2012 at 11:22 pm

I don’t really know what the bishops want. But I believe, just from talking to friends and my own experience that a lot of women would like to work from home, start their own business, work part time or take a couple of years to raise their very young children. These are all things that conservative women would mostly agree with. There are so many possibilities, most of which would be appealing to women accross the political spectrum. But very few women are going to take risks like this if it means giving up health insurance and putting their kids health at risk and/or facing the spectre of financial ruin due to a health crisis. I really wish the Democratic side would use this argument because it’s a daily reality for so many.

WoS, I totally agree with you. My sarcasm didn’t come across well. I would not consider myself conservative, and I agree with
“like to work from home, start their own business, work part time or take a couple of years to raise their very young children”

Since as women, whether we work outside the home or do the work at home that it takes to raise children and “keep” a house, we are usually the ones who raise the children, we NEED flexibility. I don’t think that is a province of conservative women or liberal women.

            April 13, 2012 at 12:15 am

I knew you were being sarcastic about the bishops isonprise and we are in agreement. I didn’t mean to come across weird. What I meant to say was I don’t care what the bishops think (hah!). I agree too that a lot of women, whatever their politics would like to have these choices. But I’m thinking of how certain religious leaders are always talking the talk of how a woman’s place is in the home but are then against any kind of changes that would actually make that a real possibility. They are so far detached from the real problems/choices that women face. I just think that this is one argument that could be used to reach conservative women or any women really. It’s a choice I wish I had when my child was younger and I really didn’t have a choice at all because we needed the insurance.
Anyhooo. Goodnight to you. It’s time I hit the sack. I’ve been all evening on the Obama Diary (again). 🙂

Newark Mayor Cory Booker taken to hospital after fire rescue

      ——————————-

NEWARK — Newark Mayor Cory Booker was taken to a hospital tonight after a fire broke out at a house next door to his house and he attempted to rescue the occupants, according to a spokeswoman for the mayor.

The fire occurred at a two-story building 433 Hawthorne Ave. in the Upper Clinton Hill neighborhood, shortly before the mayor had arrived home following a television interview on News 12 New Jersey.

The mayor confirmed on his Twitter account tonight that he suffered from smoke inhalation, saying he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

A $7.6 billion program for states most affected by unemployment and the housing crash was slow to start up and has helped too few homeowners since it was launched two years ago, according to an inspector general report released Thursday.

The federal Hardest Hit Fund, which awarded Florida more than $1 billion, has assisted just 30,640 homeowners nationwide as of the end of December and spent only 3 percent, or $217.4 million, of available funds.

Thursday’s report from the inspector general of the Troubled Asset Relief Program put much of the blame for the “significant delays” in implementing Hardest Hit on the Treasury Department, which it said lacked a comprehensive plan and didn’t do enough to push mortgage servicers to participate.

TAMPA — Friday afternoon could be busy at Tampa International Airport with President Obama making a stop there on his way to Colombia for the Summit of the Americas and Florida Gov. Rick Scott performing his eighth work day there.

In his second visit to Florida in three days, Obama will make an appearance Friday afternoon at the Port of Tampa, where he is expected to announce trade initiatives with Latin America, pegged to the summit. The stop is not open to the public.

On Tuesday, Obama spoke to a crowd of 4,500 at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton and attended three fundraisers in South Florida.

Scott will work behind the ticket counter, in the airport’s communications center and as a skycap over the course of his work day.

The work day is a concept Scott borrowed from another millionaire Florida governor, Bob Graham, a Democrat.

It’s unlikely Obama, a Democrat, and Scott, a Republican, will meet.

So, dear TODers, please understand that you, each of you, are inextricably linked, not by iPhones or Internet technology or Twitter or whatever, but GENETICALLY to President Obama, Michelle Obama, and each other – that’s the good news.

You and I are just as inextrticably linked to Rove, Bush, Ann D Romney, Coulter, GW Bush, Cheney the sharpshooter, OBL, ….. as they are to US.

Yes, that is reality as disturbing as it might be.

But, instead of being disturbing, it should be the most liberating, hopeful, essential reality of how we, as a species, finally recognize the true meaning of genetics and evolution.

‘We are all in this together’ is not a slogan, it is a biological fact.

Over the several billions years the universe in which we co-habitate has been in existence, life emerged in a ‘simple’ but profoundly (as in no one has yet come close to understanding, let alone, explicating) way.

Just reflect on the fact that what is ‘alive’ on this planet EARTH that we inhabit is way, way less than the total mass and energy of our celestial home.

Life is not trivial, and it is not abundant relative to just this one Earth that we know, let alone to a universe that we have only a smidgen of knowledge.

Unfortunately, Life is not even close to being as cherished and respected as it should be – witness the incessant, mindless, heartless slaughter of those who have, as each of us do, ONLY ONE LIFE – EVER.

We, the one creature on this planet that has the capacity of thought, reflection, language and persistence of our ‘thoughts’ and ‘observations,’ MUST step up to the reality that our common emergence, a mere 200 or so thousand years ago, means we are all brothers and sisters, not abstractly, but chemically – as is evident in the DNA in each of the mitochondria in each cell in each of our bodies (LOTS OF EVIDENCE, btw).

We are truly our brothers and sisters ‘keepers,’ not in a philosophical, or religious, or feel good ‘new age’ meme, or whatever, but in REALITY – as real as your absolute need to breath if you even try to hold your breath for a few seconds.

Yes, that is how ‘connected’ we are – no matter whether we we love or despise one another.

So, perhaps it’s time to emulate a person whom has clearly recognized our connectedness – President Obama.

His strength is his profound empathy, i.e., he gets the reality that a person who may despise him because of his color or his accomplishments or his values, is still a person.

He realizes that such persons are so disabled by their fear, their bigotry, their impoverished spirit that they are incapable of realizing that they are not just ‘their brother’s keepers’ in an abstract biblical sense, but in the physical reality that the mitochondrial DNA in EVERY CELL in their respective bodies, and his, evolved from the same ancestral MOM.

FACT. We ALL share a MOM.

Think about it – it may be what saves our species and enables generations yet to be born to experience the rare experience of LIFE.

Bob, this is truly brilliant and one of the best posts you ever wrote. The whole world needs to be reminded of this again and again.–we all have one mom, our mitochondrial eve. The idea of one race being better or purer than another is an ugly distortion created to inflate one’s self-importance and justify cruelty to others. If more children actually learned evolution and genetics in school this would be an infinitely better world, which is probably why the right is so anxious to kill education and impose creationism. I would love to see someone depict Eden as a place where all races lived together peacefully. The real original sin was the insidious belief in one’s own superiority. At that, God must truly have been so utterly disgusted that he sent the human race out into the wilderness.

“Disabled by their feaar”, that is something for everyone to remember. The ugliness that comes from some people is because they have not been given the opportunity to see otherwise. And fear of the unknown. This President is so wise and sets the example for all of us.

I thought lying and flip flopping were hurting Mitt Romney. I mean what does the man really stands for, other than winning. He will say anything to win.

You are right annie. WaPo is really lamenting the fact that they have very little control on the public’s views of Mitt Romney because the media can no longer help certain candidates to lie with their selective and biased reporting. Everything is out there now and because Romney is so inconsistent in his views, we have archives to show much much he changes on a dime.

Because of alternative media, and because the general public can now hold reporters accountable in real time, the voters are also more scrutinizing of media reports and don’t simply accept everything that they see on corporate cable news.

No Romney is hurting Romney. Youtube and twitter just remind people why.

Romney’s lies, secretiveness and insincerity are what’s hurting him. When the MSM on cable TV is willing to ignore Romney or even help advance his lies, while over-scrutinizing PBO, voters aren’t putting up with this nonsense. This is not 2000/2004, and we are not going to let this election be determined by corporate media.

President Obama is releasing his tax returns today — as far back as the year 2000. The campaign is calling on Romney to do the same.

    GOOD!

I was just about to post this collegekay 🙂
Will the MSM take Willard to task for this – or will they try to distract with some other garbage that no one cares about?

      • April 13, 2012 at 8:19 am

No! The Robney Campaign says they hate the media. I dont know why? They drive his message, day in and day out.
It’s not even close. Just send an email to the show you want your message, and viola!

Interesting, because Romney was shown just the other day saying how he appreciates the media very much. And even if they did say that, that’s quite laughable, and reminds me of Sarah Palin who constantly criticized the same media, without which she would be a nobody in Wasilla.

Obamas and Bidens to Release Tax Returns

        —————————-

Noting that Mitt Romney turned over tax returns for 23 years to the campaign of Senator John McCain when Mr. McCain was considering him as a vice-presidential running mate in 2008, Obama campaign advisers have argued that Mr. Romney should demonstrate the same openness with the public now.

“Governor Romney has asked Americans to elect him based on his tenure as a corporate buyout specialist,” the Obama campaign’s spokesman, Ben LaBolt, said in a statement, “but he refuses to share his tax returns from that period, which could help answer questions like, ‘Did he exploit loopholes in the tax code by keeping his investments off-shore? Why did he open a Swiss bank account and establish a corporation in Bermuda?’ ”

Sometimes a chance to meet the president of the United States is as easy as raising hands and asking a direct question.

Students at Blake High School made the request this week during a classroom visit by U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Tampa. She made no promises. But within hours she had arranged passes for a dozen students, Blake’s principal and the students’ teacher.

They will be at the Port of Tampa today when President Obama stops for a visit on his way to Columbia for the Sixth Summit of the Americas. He is expected to highlight the benefits of trade with Latin America.
