In case anyone missed this in the last thread:

President Obama strongly disagreed with Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen’s controversial comment about Ann Romney, saying today that “there’s no tougher job than being a mom.”

“Anybody who would argue otherwise, I think, probably needs to rethink their statement,” the president told KCRG-TV9′s Bruce Aune.

….. The president went a step further, suggesting candidates’ families should be off limits. “I don’t have a lot of patience for commentary about the spouses of political candidates,” he told Aune.

“My general view is those of us who are in the public life, we’re fair game. Our families are civilians,” he said. “I haven’t met Mrs. Romney, but she seems like a very nice woman who is supportive of her family and supportive of her husband. I don’t know if she necessarily volunteered for this job so, you know, we don’t need to be directing comments at them. I think me and Governor Romney are going to have more than enough to argue about during the course of this campaign.”

This is just what we needed right now. What an absolutely “marvelous” way to cap off this political uproar. A classy and dignified response from the only adult in the room. President Obama has a way with words. Just by being himself, he makes his critics look small. I am so proud of him.

As usual, PBO frames it perfectly. Specifically targeting “those of us in Public Life…” basically directing everyone on his staff, to STFU.

And, as he states, “Our families are civilians….”

Michelle Obama has been constantly derided, mocked, and belittled by the GOP since the last campaign. Remember the whole, “Michelle has never been proud of her country” insanity?? Or how about Palin’s nonstop yammering about FLOTUS’ campaign to fight obesity, and wanting children and everyone else to EAT HEALTHY?

Ann Romney waded into this on her own. She had a choice to remain a civilian, but instead she chose the most immediate, widely accessible social network to comment on – TWITTER. She didn’t “lock” her tweets. She said what she said to THE GLOBE, and proved instantly she was as clue-free as her husband on what 90% Americans lives are like, thanks to THEIR party’s slash and burn policies that make people LIKE HER more wealthy at EVERYONE ELSE’S EXPENSE.

I am DONE making nice with these people who bully our POTUS and FLOTUS every fucking day!!!

Yes, President Obama raised the bar for “those in Public Life” even though THEY will never be on the high road with him and Michelle.

      So, FUCK THEM.

Civilians of Planet Earth have every right to be as outraged and enraged as they want to be about the absolute ignorance of this woman who aspires to be FLOTUS.. If she doesn’t want that job, then she is free to divorce Mittens forthwith.

*goes to find something to put out this fire on my head…..*

It’s easy to be a ‘good mother’ when you don’t have to worry that if you take off another day to care for a sick child, you might lose your job and your health care. There should be a deft line that is drawn, but letting Republicans and the Romneys turn this into an attack on stay-at-home moms is ludicrous. Ann Romney has not had to worry a fucking day in her life about the things that keep the majority of American mothers up at night. I don’t mind her privilege. I mind deeply that she has no interest in finding out or empathizing with all of those women for whom being a good mom is a struggle every day. Where painful choices rip apart a mother’s heart every day. She has no interest, she has no heart for the millions of Americans her husband wants to lead. She certainly doesn’t have a problem with her sons staying out of the military while her husband blithely throws around rhetoric that could incite another world conflict.

When Ann Romney tells the RWNJ’s to stop insulting FLOTUS then she may earn a modicum of respect from me. Right now she has proven herself to be heartless and disrespectful to every American mother who makes painful, difficult choices every day. She should feel shame, for which the Romneys appear to be incapable. I think we call that sociopathic.

So PBO should get down in the muck with the muckers and answer each and every thing the muckers say? While Romney will be not be doing the same…come on now.

The Romney campaign will leave all the mudslinging to the SuperPACS and RNC, while POTUS who has asked people to contribute to the Dem SuperPAC, but is not getting the same record funds as the GOP PACs, will be responding to the mudrakers…why would that be a good idea?

BTW, if PBO did not take the high road, he would NOT be the PBO that so many of us trust, voted for and respected in ’08. It will make him no better than the Clintonites.

The high road is where he has always resided to change now would make him no better than chang in the wind Romney.

So, I decided to stay offline last night and revel in my Dodgers playing good baseball. And today I’ve been completely wrapped up in meetings. So I’m late to the game on the whole Ann Romney kerfuffle. But I think I ‘m caught up. So let me recap.

    1) Dem strategist makes ill adivsed comment about Ann Romney
    2) Romney camp jumps on it as ‘OH MY GOD OBAMA HATES STAY AT HOME MOMS’
    3) Obama comes out and in his calm way deflates the whole uproar.

Is that about what it all boils down to? God, Mitt and the GOP are screwed if this is the best they can do.

2b) Ann Romney continues to tweet MORE gasoline on said wildfire stating she has “struggled”, instantly focusing like a LASER BEAM just how OUT OF TOUCH with the day-to-day reality of 99% of Americans they actually are.

      4) President Obama’s poll numbers continue to rise.

The Washington Blade reports that Mormon Church members are actively working to overturn the law legalizing same-sex marriage that was signed by Gov. Martin O’Malley in March, making Maryland the eighth state to legalize gay marriage. Maryland’s law will go into effect in January 2013, if the state’s voters don’t repeal the law in November.

The Blade published an email sent to Mormons in D.C. and southern Maryland, asking for help gathering 200,000 signatures to bring a referendum on the law to Maryland voters in November — here is an excerpt from the email:

As you have probably heard, the Maryland legislature passed a same sex marriage bill last February. A coalition of inter-denominational churches throughout Maryland has joined together to try to get a referendum on the November ballot that would allow the residents of Maryland to vote on this bill before it becomes law. Martha Schaerr, who is a member of the LDS Church, is organizing signature collection within Montgomery County and within the LDS Church.

We need to collect approximately 200,000 signatures by the end of May. We are looking for people to gather signatures within the LDS community. If you are willing to help with this important effort please contact Martha Schaerr as soon as possible at martha.schaerr@gmail.com or Teressa Wallace at wallacemail@juno.com.

I am trying to avoid the whole idiotic Hilary Rosen house afire topic—-it’s the most ridiculous thing ever. But even more ridiculous is the media’s glomming onto this issue, happy as a lark, it seems, to find something with which they can attempt to chip away at the lopsided support of Obama by women. NBC Nightly News led with this story and Chris Jansing of msnbc featured a segment of a black suburban stay at home mom in Atlanta who said she was a liberal and was JUST SHOCKED by this thinking by “the Democrats”. It’s making her really re-think her political support. I always think I can’t be any more disgusted with our news media, but this is just despicable. They know better. They know what was meant and the truth therein—-they love conflict more than anything, to hell with the consequences.

These are the kinds of lies that sweep through low info voting America and stick. They are gonna have to spend time and money cleaning this up. But the worst thing is that they gave the msm an opening to declare that “both sides” are waging a war on women. This inquiring mind wants to know: who is that very sour looking woman standing behind FLOTUS in that darling picture of the Obamas? Could she look any more miserable and uncomfortable? Even Sen Manchin is smiling….

There are many out there who are saying that Hillary Rosen deserves all the heat she’s getting for her poorly worded comments. I don’t agree. As the mother of two children and working full time, I know exactly what demands are placed upon women like me. And, since I have a fairly well paying job, I don’t have to worry about where my child’s next meal is coming from, on top of all the stress of everyday living. Ann Romney, and women like her, have no idea of the emotional turmoil we go through. There have been occasions where I have wept myself to sleep, wondering how I’ll get through the next day. I don’t have nannies to pick up after me and my kids. I don’t have cooks preparing meals for my family, and I certainly don’t get to spend summers in exotic locations, de-stressing. While I have nothing against women who choose to be stay at home moms, Ann Romney had the distinct privilege of a very comfortable life. Surely, bringing up children to be responsible, caring adults is hard work, but in no way does it compare with women who are struggling to hold down jobs and look after their families.

I know exactly what Hillary meant when she said the words, and I suspect everyone else does too. But the Romney camp is trying to make hay, and the media, and those of us who are condemning Hillary, are giving them the weapon of false equivalency.

I refuse to be a part of it.

That being said, as is often the case, I wholly agree with PBO that candidate’s families should be off limits – that is, unless they choose to get into the fray.
