I watched that dad hurry and put on his sport coat when PBO was arriving on the scene at the egg roll—-then I saw his little son in his little sport coat—-knew that they were all excited about their special day at the WH——so I was happy to see the president give them some special attention. The little guy is the cutest ever!

I was doing my prayers and meditations, and I just cried( With Much Joy) for the beautiful family that we have here. I thought of our Hachiko. I hope we are all remembering to send out good energy her way for her visit with Tucker today. May it be a good one.

Thinking of POB doing those push ups, oh ,Lawd have mercy on us. We have a fineeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and most gentle spirit in our POTUS. We have to get him re-elected on Nov. 6. A Must!!! We need to keep this beautiful gift in the Oval Office, and We Will. And do not even start me on our beautiful FLOTUS. Blessings, blessings.

So ,let us have a Celebration within today for the many glorious rainbows of love, peace, joy, compassion, humor, giving of our blessings to others, and our total intellect to move forward in this wonderful place in our history right now.

Where is our Yardarm756? I am worried now. Please, anyone heard lately what is happening?

With negotiations set to begin Friday between Iran and six world powers over Tehran’s nuclear program, Iran suggested a compromise late Sunday to eventually stop producing 20 percent enriched uranium.

Under the proposed compromise, Iran would continue to enrich its low-grade uranium, and would stop enriching 20 percent uranium — which is viewed as the step below weapons-grade uranium — once Iran had enough stockpiled for its medical research.

Iran’s nuclear chief, Fereidoun Abbasi, outlined the proposal on state television late Sunday, according to The Associated Press.
Talks between Iran and the P5+1 group — the five permanent United Nations Security Council countries plus Germany — are set to begin on Friday in Istanbul.

I thought the Iranians have been saying they’re not enriching to 20% all this time. Now they’re admitting they’ve been doing it, and are prepared to stop? I really hope these talks make progress. This tension is not good.

    • 194 utaustinliberal

I saw the LGBT couple on Thomas Roberts show earlier on MSNBC. They were two fathers and they have an 8 year old daughter. They admitted that under PBO they had gotten a lot of benefits that protected them in the workplace but they still felt that PBO hadn’t done much for them. 🙄 Roberts reminded them that this was an Easter Egg Roll, where they and their daughter could just have fun and not bring the nastiness of politics to the WH on such a nice day and nice event. He told them that the Easter Egg Roll wasn’t a place for politics and interest group issues, but they disagreed. He wished them luck and a Happy Easter.

True, with a Romney Presidency, they wouldn’t even see the WH lawn on Easter much less be given a platform to protest and make demands. There is a time and place for everything, and today was not one of those times for a protest.

Sorry to threadjack so early, but I really need some advice ASAP!!!

    Shitake!!!!

I applied for a job at this hospital in NOLA. I just receieved an email from them asking me to provide 5 references. 2 of the references should be from direct/past lab managers. My current job is where most of my experience comes from. I am a good tech and I am well qualified for this position, but I am wary of asking for references from any of my current managers because firstly, I haven’t told anyone but my closest friend/acquaintances that I am looking for another job. I haven’t told any of them that I am looking for a position in NOLA either, so my current manager have no idea that I’m looking for other work. Secondly, they have been really petty in the past (and are kinda petty overall, which is one of the reasons I want to leave) with other people I know who have left, and if I don’t get this position, then I will have to keep my current job and I KNOW that they will make my life here very uncomfortable, which I just do not want to deal with.

I am thinking really hard about using Senior Techs instead of supervisors, I’ve already written to the recruiter and explained the “hostile” work situation that could occur if I asked for references and did not get the job.

I have a feeling that I could possibly get this job, the only stickling point for me would be pay rate. I have the experience to ask for the higher pay scale which would still be about $2-$3 less than my current job, but once I’m home in NOLA, I can supplement that income with a PRN job just like I currently do.

Unlike with the CDC job I applied for my gut tells me that I have a REAL chance of getting this position if I can just get an interview and before that happens, I need to deal with the references situations.

Anyone have any good ideas on what I should do?

    • April 9, 2012 at 1:32 pm

Ask the recruiter if you can provide alternative refs. Its not a good idea to ask current employers/employees to be references.

      • 213 lamh35
        April 9, 2012 at 1:47 pm

I know of 2 former employees who were more “senior” techs who I am still friends with who can provide references from my current job. I also have a current employee who is a friend of mines who was just as excited as I was over the CDC job and she was very upset when I didn’t get the CDC job. She is currently a Senior Tech (MT III) to my lower tech (MT II).

      • 214 miss pat
        April 9, 2012 at 1:56 pm

Good advice. You don’t want to lie but sometimes you have to and then ask for forgiveness. Get some people you know to vouch for you, some good friends or former colleagues who have moved on. Good luck.

    • 215 AJ
      April 9, 2012 at 1:52 pm

Recruiters are all too familiar with this situation…a peer or a person who is senior to you in some capacity should be adequate. Also, if there is someone who can vouch for you who is senior in your field yet not at your current job, that person might also be acceptable as a reference.

    • 216 jacquelineoboomer
      April 9, 2012 at 1:53 pm

I’m sure you know best, considering all of your circumstances, but not always a good idea to tell a potential employer that you’re in a work environment that could turn hostile if you ask for references and did not get the job (potential employers usually know that, and will ask you if it’s okay to contact your present employer, but sometimes potential employers instead blame the victims, sometimes subconsciously). I know you said you’ve already mentioned it, but might be good not to bring it up again, if you can find references elsewhere. Just a thought; don’t mean to sound as though I know your situation better than you know it!

    • April 9, 2012 at 1:55 pm

I’d go with references from the Senior Techs, lamh35, for a start and see what happens. If the hospital in NOLA has any further questions, I’m sure it will ask. I’d try the ST route and see what happens.

LOL! Don’t be surprised when this shows up in a GOP ad. It’ll be enhanced with fangs and blood dripping down. Ooooo – look at the scary, black, muslim, socialist, Kenyan, elitist, vampire President. Hide your children, hide your dogs, hide your wives, hide your grandmas. Be afraid, people, be very afraid. 🙂

Facebook announced in a blog post that it is buying photo-sharing service Instagram.

Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a post on his Timeline, “For years, we’ve focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we’ll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.”

Facebook said it had paid approximately $1 billion for the two year-old company.

Instagram, which was founded in 2010, recently shared that it had attracted more than 30 million users.

I find it quite interesting that this parent here who was never fussy about Easter eggs or egg hunting when there was a young ‘un in the house has now sat through the WH Easter Egg Roll for the third consecutive year!!! This is definitely the Obamas’ fault! 😆 😆

Mitt Romney will speak at the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting on Friday. According to the NRA’s website, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich are also scheduled to speak.

Romney has previously stated his support of the Second Amendment and said he owns guns. “I believe in the Second Amendment, I’ll protect the Second Amendment, I have guns myself,” he said in Ohio in late February. “Not going to tell you where they are. Don’t have them on myself either, all right.”

In 2007, Romney said he owned guns but later clarified that they actually belonged to his son.

I’m back! I’m so exhausted but it was sooooo worth it! Ok so I got to the WH at 5am this morning to start my shift. I was an egg roll volunteer, so basically I helped the kids roll the egg and stuff. So yeah anyway…. the First Family comes out around 10:30 and I’m like OMG they’re going to come over here. I braced myself… kept it cool ya know. 😉 PBO comes down… ahhh he’s so fiiiiiiine. After the kids rolled the eggs, I went over to FLOTUS and the girls and I just stood by them. Finally, I worked up the courage to say something — I mean this *IS* a one-chance-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

I said, “Hi Mrs. Obama.” She said “Heyyy” all enthused and she gave me a half-hug (faint). She’s so tall and gorgeous in person… FLAWLESS skin! I’m not exaggerating. So yeah, then I go on to say “wow you guys are so tall… goodness.” Sasha, Malia, and FLOTUS laughed. Seriously, Sasha is 10 and she’s my height! I said, “I’m short, people think I’m a 14 year old kid when they see me, even though I’m grown.” (lol) FLOTUS said, “well we’re a different family ya know. And you’re taller than Sasha.” I said “yeah that’s true.” Malia said “you can take advantage of that.” Meaning, I look young so that’s a good thing. Sasha laughed.

Then FLOTUS said “when you get to be 48 like me you’ll be grateful for that.” I said “yeah, but you look GREAT for your age.” She laughed and kinda half-hugged me again.

This little convo lasted like 30 seconds. By this time, PBO is about 10 feet away from me taking pictures with a group of kids (the ones you see in this thread). He comes over near me and I said, “Hi Mr. President.” He said, “Hey how are you?!” I shook his hand with my head down blushing. He’s so gorgeous I couldn’t even look him in the eye. So serious. After that it was over…. they went over to the Story Time area to read to the kids. I wish I couldve got pictures, but we weren’t really aloud. I’m just grateful for the experience.

aristac, Dam right she is, the only one collegekay didn’t mention was Bo and Grandma. I didn’t use to like dogs, but thanks to Bo, I like them now. Bo is the best dog since Lassie.

I am proud of you for not fainting 🙂

Oh College Kay, you were so lucky to have an experience only the smallest percentage of the population will ever have. Someday, you’ll be able to tell your grandchildren this and they’ll look at you with awe. When PBO calls you, you’ll be able to tell him you’re old pals who met at the Easter Egg Roll. By the way you’re as cute as a button and it was really great to see your photo. As a fellow shortie, I can sympathize with your being not much taller than Sasha. It’s a pain not being able to reach the top shelf of anything and never being able to see above the next shoulder in the crowd. But, in your case, cuteness makes up for it all.

    • April 9, 2012 at 2:41 pm

Oh my goodness, what a fantastic experience, ck!!!! All four Obamas at the same time!! I bet it felt like a total time freeze and the POOF!! It’s gone. We keep hearing the girls are very sweet and it sounds like you saw that, too. WOW, so happy and excited for you.

It will surely be the coolest thing ever to tell PBO when he calls you how you enjoyed meeting him and his lovely family at the Egg Roll events! I am so touched and pleased for you! Well Done, you waited to get home to faint! wondering how long it will take your feet to touch the ground! ((((((:;)))))))

so since I’ve shared the horror of my plumbing problems the last few days.. I want to share GOOD news 🙂 YaY was talking to my neighbor.. kind of a jack of all trades sorta guy, who’s always pleasant.. just informed me that he had done plumbing for over 12 yrs and is now on his way to rent a roto-rooter machine for me.. and is going to do the job for me himself.. at probably a considerably less cost. I’m so thrilled.. yes I am thrilled to have a plumber. None of the local plumbers called back, I tried them again w/ no luck.. and its going on 4 days since I shut everything off. Anyhoo.. no more plumbing whines from Sheri ~

    • April 9, 2012 at 2:42 pm

Wow, that is so wonderful. You must feel so relieved. So nice to have such great neighbors.

You know we don’t talk much, me and my neighbors.. we’re indoors so much of the year in Nd with the bitter cold we often have.. but I have to say this guy is always kind.. and to offer to do this today just makes me so grateful meta. Camping out in your house is okay.. but not something I wanted to do long term 😉

This is an angel, and even if you have to pay him, so what, angels need to make a living too! I’m happy to hear of this development! Could be a new turn in neighborly relationships also! Good for him, good for you!

            April 9, 2012 at 7:28 pm

yes he was definitely my angel today.. he finished in just a couple of hours.. was only going to charge me $50 on top of the equipment rental of $35.. I gave him $70 though as I would have paid almost $200 to the plumber. I still came out ahead, plus can take a shower!!

            • April 9, 2012 at 9:08 pm

Sherij,it’s called karma. You, my dear, were so terrific in co-ordinating Haichiko’s need, and it all came back to you.
What you give out, is what you get back. it’s as simple and not so complex as that.
