I know I keep saying this, but Malia is almost as tall as her parents. They are both lovely young girls. I am so proud of our lovely First Family. Can you just imagine, traveling back in time and showing these pictures to some of our ancestors. Booker T. Washington, Harriet Tubman, I want you to meet the President of the United States, and his family. President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and their daughters Malia and Sasha.

Don’t think they they don’t see this. Don’t think that they aren’t in heaven tickled pink, slapping their knees in amusement and exclaiming, “Lord can you beat that!” They’re watching, Sojourner’s watching, Martin’s watching, Fannie Lou is watching, Medgar is watching, Malcolm is watching, Rosa is watching……they’re all watching, and beaming with pride.

      Hey There

I’m not really here anymore (no time) but news of your situation spread to our family of pragmatic blogs. Sweetie, I am so sorry. You reached out to me last year, I’ll never forget that. Hugs, Gail

        April 8, 2012 at 12:57 pm

Gail! How are you?! I’m so thrilled to hear from you and see you here. Are you completely recovered? I remember your ordeal. I lost track of your email, because my computer hard drive had died and I lost everything. Pls email me if you still have my email so we can reconnect.

        I hope you’re doing splendidly! 🙂

        • 49 gcwp1
          April 8, 2012 at 1:10 pm

I was physically recovered, but last year apparently took a toll on me. I self admitted to a psych unit. They used to be called “nervous breakdowns” now “major de[pressive episiodes.” I’m improving, but stress out EASILY and do not want to rely on tranqs.

But YOU suffered an ordeal I cannot even imagine.

I will go through my contact list, and emails I sent out last year. The problem is always, the difference between assorted handles and real names. I really should have cross referenced…

Financially we are OK, so keep me on the list of people who want to help.

I am off now to celebrate “The Festival of Crackers” (a Colbertism)

          Hey Sweetie!

I honestly believe that the worse is behind you now. Good things are in store for you. As our President has often said, “there will be ups and downs but together we will get there.”

The way that the twitter and blog community have responded to a sister in need just shows what this Easter Day is truly all about.

You just keep moving forward and we will continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers that a good job is soon in your future.

Thanks Chips for the photos of the First Family. I neede a happy face after listening to the arrogant bishops who choose to use easter to bash PBO and the health care law. do these people not see the irony of attacking health care on easter yet the person they claim to follow (Jesus) focused primarily on healing the sick??

Looking at these photos of the First Family, I can’t help but notice the many members of the US Secret Service that are around them, still working on Easter to provide the vital protection.

Thank you members of the US Secret Service for always being there and giving up time from your families. Happy Easter to the US Secret Service

Faced with flat federal financing and rising need, Arizona is one of 16 states that have cut their welfare caseloads further since the start of the recession — in its case, by half. Even as it turned away the needy, Arizona spent most of its federal welfare dollars on other programs, using permissive rules to plug state budget gaps.

The poor people who were dropped from cash assistance here, mostly single mothers, talk with surprising openness about the desperate, and sometimes illegal, ways they make ends meet. They have sold food stamps, sold blood, skipped meals, shoplifted, doubled up with friends, scavenged trash bins for bottles and cans and returned to relationships with violent partners — all with children in tow.

If ANYONE needs more proof that they DO NOT CARE about ALL people, but especially those less fortunate, this article ought to put that to rest! They are a cesspool of hate and loathing.

I just talked to my son, Ben. When I told him how much you guys have been doing to help me, he said, “You must be an amazing blogger!” LOL. I love my son. He’s such a blessing. One good thing I did in my life.

He said he’s going to try to come Wednesday night and bring a friend to help with the packing. He also has a cousin (on his father’s side) who might come to help. Between the four of us, we should be able to get everything packed and ready for movers. Ben has to go back to Connecticut Saturday, so he won’t be able to stay and help with the move.

Movers are going to charge me a small fortune, because I live on the fourth floor and it’s a walk-up (no elevator). I don’t think I’ve ever seen her blog here, but @capecodgurl on Twitter created a fundraising site for me. The money she raises can be used for moving/traveling expenses. The money you guys have donated to me through paypal will help pay off any bills I have related to the apartment and keep me and Tucker going for a while.

Please, please pray I find a job very soon. That is what I need more than anything else.

Thank you all again for your love and your kindness. You’re all so amazing!

    Big hug to everyone!

Morning Hachiko! I hope you have a great Easter dinner to go to today, not to mention an Easter morning breakfast, and a night cap, too. Me, I’m missing three daughters and two sons and all my grandkids and great grandkids, so for purely selfish reasons of my own (redundancy there), I wish I could borrow you, Hachiko, for a daughter when we eat out lamb and all that goes with it (I’m tired already!) . Melanie misses her siblings, I miss the progeny, too, that goes with them.

But what joyit would be to have you at our table! I’m jealous at whoever gets you, woman!

Thank you, trinisamba. Little story: when I was a little girl in jamaica, I suffered from chronic asthma. I was always in the hospital. My doctor was a young Trinidadian. He was my first crush. I thought he was so cute and I loved his accent. 🙂 Now that I think about it, I wonder just how bad my asthma was? Hmm… 😀

Cute story, Hachiko. Glad you’re safe. I caught a glimpse of your recent troubles on Twitter and came to TOD to find out more details. Your adventure to NY awhile ago is what got me hooked on TOD in the first place. I used to only lurk for months, and then when I learned about your and Tucker’s northward trek from FL to NY, I became more actively involved. I don’t post much now because of that thing called “life’s obligations,” but I do lurk daily. God bless the TODers who came to your aid, especially Chips, Ms Pat, Pinkbunny and the others. And please hang in there, girl. I can’t do much in the way of financial help right now, but I will definitely put you on my personal prayer list in hopes that you will find a job in the very near future.

n case you haven’t noticed, if you’re a Republican politician, you can pretty much call the president of the United States anything you want. But some examples are just too damn remarkable to let pass without comment. This is funny because, one paragraph later, it is reported that…
Grassley is known for his colorful (and at times indecipherable) Twitter feed.. the senator typically tweets in shorthand.
And in fluent moron. Apparently, at the 110-character mark, the senator gets the bends.

“the senator gets the bends” Totally killed me. Read on….

Forgive me if this has already been covered in earlier posts, but I missed quite a lot earlier this week. Has anyone seen Santita Jackson’s debut (daughter of Rev Jesse Jackson and good friend of FLOTUS) on Fox News? I can’t bring myself to watch Fox News or even go to their website to find clips, but I think some of you strong TOD’ers out there keep tabs on what the “Republican’s communication wing” is doing. What’s the word on how Ms. Jackson is working out as a contributor there?

I love the introductory sentence :’Fox News is once again moving to the left, hoping to avoid left-wing attacks on its news operations and commentators.’ Once again moving to the left? How come you guys didn’t notify TODville of the previous leftward moves?

‘Another reader comment on The Blaze said of the Fox News decision to hire Jackson’s daughter: “Ever since the News Corps scandal, Fox has begun a rapid slide to the left. They are BECOMING the corrupt lame-stream-media they used to rail against!” ‘

I would guess FOX was sooooo far to the right that its ‘rapid slide to the left’ has been unnoticeable.

      Money! Money! Money!

rightwingers always search for AND FIND some one in the minority or oppressed community who they can hide behind to attack the rest of the group.

in a few days, each time we complain about the attacks on others (especially black people) from fox noise, they will immediately respond that “but we have Jesse Jackson’s daughter working on this network

Of course there always the collaborator who focus on thier WON personal interest and ignore the greater good.

how mant times have we seen people use the few resources in the community and then ignore that as they search for their own huge pay check?

Always love to see pictures of the First Family smiling their way to church…..what a treasure they are. I truly appreciate it that they attend where the security is easiest for their guardians, and they will cause the least upset. They always think of others.
This truly is an amazing group of people on this blog. Look what has happened here in the last four days!
We act out “We are our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers” Our pastor told us at the end of the service today to”not just talk about Easter, go out and BE Easter.” I believe that is what has happened here.

OH MY. WOOT! WOOT! I just had a chance to listen to Park Overall’s Jackson Day speech in Nashville. I am having a difficult time accepting that I am going to have the opportunity to vote for her. I am mostly speechless while at the same time, want to shout from the rooftop. She talked about being from northeast TN. I am from even further northeast TN than she. Grew up 7 miles from the NC state line. I don’t have the accent she has–I lived away (northern OH and northern VA) for over 30 years before returning to Knoxville in 2006. I am SO excited!

Can’t WAIT to see this race begin!! You have some work to do to get this out there. The good people of TN will know that they have been taken for a ride…and she’s got the balls to bash him on his BS….I hope she wins this thing:) TN needs someone like her. We ALL need someone like her!

      • April 8, 2012 at 4:07 pm

AMEN and AMEN! I believe she does have the ‘balls’ and guts to call him out for anything.

I had to laugh at some of the things she said. One, when she talked about being a “yellow dog Democrat.” Our senior pastor was sharing with me 3 weeks ago about his wife being a “yellow dog Democrat”. She was born in Detroit, strong union family, then moved to Chattanooga when she was 9 or 10. When she began hearing negative things about unions, she was furious. Move forward and in her 20’s, she met and dated Bob Corker!!! Never seriously, of course. As Steve said, she would have killed him. 🙂 Before Steve came to our church, he was at a large UMC in Chattanooga and Bob Corker was a member there so Steve and Corker go way back. He said he has written BC 2 or 3 letters in the past 3 years……begging and pleading and encouraging him to be a statesman and a moderating leader in the Senate…..told him this was a perfect opportunity for him to do that. Steve laughed and said, “Obviously, he didn’t listen to me.”

Wisdom froms martypants by way of Tim Wise….worth reading…

Invariably, it seems it is we in the white community who obsess over our own efficacy, and fail to recognize the value of commitment, irrespective of outcome. People of color, on the other hand, never having been burdened with the illusion that the world was their oyster, and thus, anything they touched could and should turn to gold, usually take a more reserved, and I would say healthier view of the world and the prospects for change. They know (as indeed they must) that the thing being fought for, at least if it’s worth having, will require more than a part-time effort, and will not likely come in the lifetimes of those presently fighting for it. And it is that knowledge which allows a strength and resolve few members of the dominant majority will ever, can ever, know…

i have been involved in many struggles thru the years….his statements about continuing to struggle even when the odds are stacked against you resonate with me…

i think of the civil rights movement…of those men and women who walked and carpooled to work rather than ride a segregated bus…..it took almost a year to desegregate that system…..longer still to get rid of Jim Crow….

the voter id laws and roll back of womens and workers right should teach us the struggle for freedom is never truly won…meaning that those gains must be defended….

taking me to the president….the purists who always seem to be so disappointed in the president /be it over health care and not getting the single payer option or dodd-frank not being quite strong enough…i know that victory comes in stages….

we in Black Community …understand that all to well…and even tho our President sits in the most powerful seat in the world…there are still those who question his birth…his faith….his intelligence…etc,,,,simply because of the color of his skin….

that can be demoralizing….however….we will march on as the President says…i do not have time to feel sorry for myself…..Presssssssssss ON…indeed!

Compare and Contrast: Barack Obama and Scott Walker Address Equal Pay For Women

    By Karoli

Mitt Romney says he will win back women because women care about the economy. What part of his good buddy Scott Walker’s rollback of ways for women to push for equal pay does he think bolsters his case?

Romney: Gov. Scott Walker is a ‘real champion… a great leader’

Last week, Romney’s campaign said their candidate stands with Walker, who is facing a recall election after he forced through legislation that stripped most public sector employees of collective bargaining rights.

Throughout his campaign, Romney has repeatedly claimed that labor unions “too often stand as obstacles to growth and fight against the workers they are supposed to serve.”

“Workers should have the right to form unions, but unions should not be forced upon them,” he said in Appleton, Wisconsin on Friday. “And unions should not have the power to take money out of their members’ paychecks to buy the support of politicians favored by the union bosses.”

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams told The Hill that the tough stand on labor unions would continue through November.

“He’s going to continue to run on this message in the general election,” Williams insisted. “This is what his campaign is about: making difficult decisions in order to preserve America’s promise.”

    • April 8, 2012 at 4:43 pm

I don’t want to hear anyone in the MSM say the President is engaging in class warfare ever again although I probably will starting this week. That statement by Romney has class warfare written all over it and make no mistake he would enforce it exactly as the Koch Brothers tell him too.

The first principle of journalism is to tell the truth. Schieffer is parroting the lies and distortions of Rush Limbaugh. This is just outrageous.

Bob Schieffer Falsely Claims Health Reform Forces Churches To “Buy Birth Control Pills For Their Employees”

In an interview with Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Bob Schieffer, host of Face the Nation on CBS, falsely claimed that the Affordable Care Act required religiously-affiliated institutions — including churches — to “buy birth control pills for their employees.” In fact, churches are exempted from the mandate, and contraceptive services will be provided by health insurance plans, not religiously-affiliated employers.

Schieffer is misinforming his viewers when he says that the mandate for contraceptive coverage applies to churches. The rule regarding contraceptive coverage specifically exempts actual houses of worship
As Sibelius made clear in her statement, Catholic universities and hospitals aren’t going to be buying birth control for their employees any more than they will be buying blood pressure tests and dialysis. Institutions that provide health insurance as an employment benefit are offering just that – health insurance. When a person with employer-provided coverage goes to the doctor or pharmacist, we normally think of their bills as being paid for not by their employer but by their health insurance plan.

A solar tower nearly twice the height of the Empire State building. Hundreds of spinning 200-foot-tall wind turbines. A 500-mile high-voltage power line from central New Mexico to southern Arizona.

Those are among the projects the renewable-energy industry sees in Arizona’s future.

But for the U.S. military, that vision translates into fears of unusable airspace, equipment failures and plane-crash risks.

Across the country, the burgeoning green-energy industry has faced military concerns about threats to the safety of its pilots and high-tech operations. Air Force officials, in particular, are wary. They say solar projects can obstruct flight paths and reflect sunlight into pilots’ eyes, wind farms can jam radar, and transmission lines can disrupt testing equipment.

Energy developers in states such as Oregon, Nevada and California have spent years and made costly changes to projects to satisfy military objections.

And after reading the pool report about the Easter Service I know two things: 1) the reason the president and first lady looked a little tart when they walked out of church yesterday and 2) why the president infrequently attends service in DC (politics in the pulpit, and several people getting left out of the service)

We I look at the 1st family it reminds me how far we have come and we now have more faith , belief by faith all things are possible to those who believe we can . We can and we did .
