Rachel should read what the War Powers Act is and why the Commander in Chief is in charge of our Military and not Congress.
    She is stupid, sometimes.

She’s to busy praising republicans while pretending to be for democratic things. I know this goes a little to far in stating this but I really sometimes wonder what side she is exactly on and whats more if she really cares about the anti-abortion measures besides just prepping up her ratings.

      • April 3, 2012 at 12:46 pm

Domestic policies she is a democrat, foreign policies she is a huge Ron Paul supporter or Libertarian.
        Strangely!

          April 3, 2012 at 2:12 pm

There is a difference between not wanting to go to war because you prefer peace to conflict. Within that mindset is the horrible fact that yes — sometimes it takes conflict to get to peace. But only when absolutely every other avenue has been exhausted and there is a vastly compelling good that might result.

What Rachel and the other twentysomethings who just want to avoid combat to save their own skin, don’t understand is that Ron Paul isn’t about peace — he just doesn’t want to spend the money on war and wants to retreat behind the walls of his own making. the rest of the world be damned. Those who suffer and die under foreign dictators — that’s their problem. Let misery and chaos happen outside of his Bubble America — as long as he’s safe.

          He’s not a man of peace. He’s a man of self-interest.

Quoting Lincoln about the important of government working together.

  23. April 3, 2012 at 12:41 pm

Obama jokes about hot mic incident. “Feel free to transmit any of this to Vladmir if you see him.”

Obama says they’ll be “hot mics and Etch-a-Sketch moments” in the campaign to come.

Obama: “There are also big fundamental issues at stake right now … Whoever he may be … the next president will inherit an economy that’s recovering, but not yet recovered.”

More: “Too many Americans will still be looking for a job that covers their bills. … Too many citizens will lack the financial security that started slipping away years before this recession hit.”

Obama talks about debt. “In the face of all these challenges, we’re going to have to answer a central question as a nation: what, if anything, can we do to restore a sense of security to people who are willing to work hard and act responsibility … can we succeed as a country where a shrinking number of people do exceedingly well” and everyone else struggles.

More: “This is not just another run of the mill political debate. I’ve said it’s the defining issue of our time. And I believe it. It’s why I ran in 2008, it’s what my presidency is about. It’s why I’m running again.”

This is the most comprehensive account of the affects that the Republican Budget would have on our Nation. Dang, I wish this was in primetime.

  52. April 3, 2012 at 12:58 pm

Obama talks about wanting every citizen to be able to count on some basic measure of economic security. “no matter how responsibly we live our lives, any one of us at any moment might face hard times … might face bad luck … So we contribute to programs like Medicare and Social Security which guarantee health care and a source of income after a life time of hard work.”

Defends other entitlement programs, like Medicare and unemployment insurance. Talks about how entitlements have been supported by people in both parties. Talks about how Lincoln launched the Transcontinental railroad, land grand colleges, Nixon created the EPA, Eisenhower did the interstates, etc.

More: “These investments aren’t part of some scheme to redistribute wealth from one group to another … they are expressions of the fact that we are one nation.”

More: “Show me a business leader who wouldn’t profit if more Americans” didn’t get more education.

“It doesn’t make us weaker when we guarantee “ benefits to the sick, etc.

“What drags down our entire economy is when there’s an ever widening chasm between the ultra-rich and everybody else. In this country, broad-based prosperity has never trickled down from” a wealthy few.

More: “It’s why research has shown that countries with less inequality tend to have stronger and steadier economic growth over the long run. … Yet for much of the last century … we have been having the same argument with folks peddling some version of trickle down economics.”

Attacks trickle down economics. Obama says we’ve tried it and “the results of their experiment are there for all to see.”

Talks about the 2001 tax cuts … “We were promised that these tax cuts would lead to faster job growth … They did not. The wealthy got wealthier …”

Obama: “We’ve tried this theory out. You would think that after the results of this experiment in trickle down economics … after the results were made painfully clear, that the proponents of this theory might show some humility, might moderate their views a bit…”

“Maybe just maybe, at a time of growing debt and” growing inequality, we should hold off on more tax cuts.

More: “That’s exactly the opposite of what they” propose. “Instead of moderating their views even slightly, the Republicans running Congress right now have doubled down. They’re proposed a budget so far to the right that it makes the Contract With America look like the New Deal.”

Says that the “renowed liberal” Newt Gingrich first called the budget “social engineer.”

Obama: “And yet this isn’t a budget supported by some small … group in the Republican party. … This is the party’s platform”

  53. 98 Andy46

This is much more than a big bang start to his campaign, although it definitely lays down the template that he is going to run on. He is also telling every Democrat running for any position any where in the country, from Congress on down, how they should run. By tieing this budget to the Republican Party, not just a few Republicans, he is giving every Democt=rat an anchor to hang around the neck of each of their opponents.

In 2010, Dems, to their dismay, ran a defensive campaign (except for PBO). PBO is telling them to take it to their opponents and to start doing it now.

Politics, as they say, is local. But the issues he is talking about fit into every local election as well as the national.

Ladyhawke, I loved it when he told the media about that fake equivalence. It the Republicans who didn’t want to compromise.

As you’re doing your reporting my position on the budget, ACE ( responsibility mandate) and a host of other topics 15 yrs ago wold have been thought moderate. What has changed?

Not one republican would raise their hand to cut taxes 9-1 “THINK ABOUT THAT”, our President said.

That’s right Mr. President, You tell’em!

Lord, if only THREE reporters would leave this session with a renewed focus on THEIR responsibility in educating the voters on this budget I would feel good. Yes, these are low standards, but I’d take it as a start. 🙄 🙄

This is a drawdropping event. It reminds me of that time he went to the Republicans Retreat in MD and took them to the woodshed with just the facts Jack!

Donna, I was just thinking the same thing. I have watched that retreat video many times. We are watching history being made right before our eyes. This is just remarkable. It takes my breath away.

I was just thinking along those lines DD4O. Thinking in fact that he is actually TEACHING these reporters in a very CLEAR way – he is an awesome teacher. The problem is their questions never seem to show that they are processing his answers. They show the same mindset every single time – picky, picky, picky, picking at the threads, and ignoring the fabric. They make it seem that THEY CANNOT LEARN! Pathetic.

  95. April 3, 2012 at 1:26 pm

These question are slanted, but he answers them with maturity, succinct, and a hear what I am telling you, kind of way(like a warning)!
    Nice job.
No wonder the networks cut him off.

Thank you- clarifying that the SCOTUS has not overturned a law by congress dealing with commerce! The burden is on SCOTUS to over turn this law by precedent. Historically there is restraint. He expects it will be upheld. Reminding them of the human element! Letters he’s received.

Thanks for the live-blogging, TODers! Sounds like our President was his usual impressive, eloquent, ass-kicking self. Stomping all over the GOP primary in the process, lol.

Buckle up, Willard, it’s gonna be one bumpy ride, and I really don’t think you’re ready for this.

People better wake up to the reality that this man is the only thing that stands between the American dream and Paul Ryan’s twisted fantasy of having ninety eight percent of us living in cardboard boxes and working in a fertilizer fantasy making three cents a week. What were the people of Wisconsin thinking when they decided to inflict this Ayn Rand rat face weasel on the rest of us? Romney will make that fantasy come true.

I’m not sure where he is right now. I just haven’t seen any tweets from him for the entire duration of the speech and Q&A session – which is unusual.

        • April 3, 2012 at 1:53 pm

If he was smart he would be someplace cowering in fear at the very thought of Paul Ryan’s budget becoming law of the land. The President laid it out in beautifully stark terms and it is one long ugly nightmare. By the time Ryan was done the U.S would make Niger look wealthy.

IMO it was one of the best speeches he has given.

That really should have been rquired viewing for every Amerian. Too bad it was not prime time, and on all the networks. Think about how many times in the long ago past that I was miffed when a president interrupted my day time TV. I’ve reminded of Sasha ” you’re going to be on ALL the channels?” No Sasha, Nickolodean will not be interrupted.

Following Obama’s speech Tuesday afternoon, Paul Ryan released the following statement on the House Budget Committee’s website:

“History will not be kind to a President who, when it came time to confront our generation’s defining challenge, chose to duck and run. The President refuses to take responsibility for the economy and refuses to offer a credible plan to address the most predictable economic crisis in our history. Instead, he has chosen tired and cynical political attacks as he focuses on his own re-election.

“The President has offered four budgets during his four years in the White House – each committed to funding ever-higher government spending by taking more from hardworking Americans and adding to a crushing burden of debt. His failed agenda is stifling opportunity and hope for the next generation.

“Like his reckless budgets, today’s speech by President Obama is as revealing as it is disappointing: While others lead by offering real solutions, he has chosen to distort the truth and divide Americans in order to distract from his failed record. His empty promises are quickly becoming broken promises – and the American people will hold him accountable for this violation of their trust.”

Have I mentioned how much I hate these people?!?!?!

Were they concerned about the debt when they were tripling it, squandering our surplus, lying about the costs of war, and deregulating the entire banking industry until it was less regulated than a casino?

Debt reduction while giving MORE tax cuts to the rich, who have become wealthier while millions of hardworking Americans were unemployed?!?!?!

How did Reagan win in 1984? By spending us out of a recession, Eddie Munster.

So the buzz words are “reckless”, “distort” and “divide”. From the assholes who would rather trash the U.S. credit rating than do anything for the country.

Effing traitors. They are no less than effing traitors.

      April 3, 2012 at 4:23 pm

Oh, one more thing, Eddie Munster: Mitt Romney does not work hard. Millionaires are not working hard. Hardworking Americans would like to build roads and bridges and schools and are willing to pay a fair share of taxes.

      Asshole.
