First!!
Congrats Allison…. but same time stamp. hmmmm….
Ha! Actually 4 of you have the same time stamp.
Allison, ourmanflint, Hachiko and 4morefor44. I don’t think I have ever seen that happen before 🙂
Four?! I’m running out of prizes Donna!
Hey, joint first deserves a prize!
Awww…that’s pretty.
Be afraid Paul Ryan, be afraid:
Hellooooooo Allison, hiya everyone.
Smoking hot. I’m wide awake.
Congrats Allison & ourmanflint for both coming in FIRST!
Can’t wait to hear him smack that cocky fool Paul Ryan.
hi
bring it, barack!
I m at work. may have to listen later. can’t wait to hear the President
CSPAN will also be televising the speech live from 12:30PM ET.
Oooo. I’m near the top. 🙂
woohoo, got home just in time for this, thank YOU Chips! 🙂
I am at work, but I plan to have my headphones on listening as much as possible. Kick some ass Mr. President!!
Me too 🙂
Here I am! I promised Meta to meet up with her here. My only reason for being so prompt. 😉 😆
Your word is gold.
I’m straightening out my naughty mat and plugging in at full volume 3D.
There you are! 😆 Trying to follow my exemplary leader where my word is concerned.
I am guessing Paul Ryan won’t be in the front seat for this smack down. :-).
Only in our dreams, perhaps?
Rachel should read what the War Powers Act is and why the Commander in Chief is in charge of our Military and not Congress.
She is stupid, sometimes.
That stupid book of hers will fail!
She’s to busy praising republicans while pretending to be for democratic things. I know this goes a little to far in stating this but I really sometimes wonder what side she is exactly on and whats more if she really cares about the anti-abortion measures besides just prepping up her ratings.
Domestic policies she is a democrat, foreign policies she is a huge Ron Paul supporter or Libertarian.
Strangely!
There is a difference between not wanting to go to war because you prefer peace to conflict. Within that mindset is the horrible fact that yes — sometimes it takes conflict to get to peace. But only when absolutely every other avenue has been exhausted and there is a vastly compelling good that might result.
What Rachel and the other twentysomethings who just want to avoid combat to save their own skin, don’t understand is that Ron Paul isn’t about peace — he just doesn’t want to spend the money on war and wants to retreat behind the walls of his own making. the rest of the world be damned. Those who suffer and die under foreign dictators — that’s their problem. Let misery and chaos happen outside of his Bubble America — as long as he’s safe.
He’s not a man of peace. He’s a man of self-interest.
Most of the time you’d think she is on the rag.
Rag? What rag? She has never seen a rag in her life. She is one day for the Presidenet, the next day she’s not. Used to watch her show, I stopped and never looked back.
Whenever PBO has to give a speech, everyone gets extremely excited (MSM included) regardless of which side they’re on. I notice that during PBO’s major speeches, I stop receiving emails (work or home). Obviously no one is on email because they are tuned in to PBO. What shall we do after 2017?
Sleep? Work? Go on vacation? I’m happily on 24-7 duty, it seems.
It’s ON!!! Tune in now folks!
I detest the media, so I’m pretty sure these folks are gonna tick me off 😉
AP Chairman, Dean Singleton is now giving the introductory remarks and has introduced PBO!
Hi Friends; Please give details for those unable to watch. Thanks.
2nd. Let those little fingers get to typing, please!
3rd. Pretty please.
“There will be Etch-a-Sketch moments”
😉
This is all about the election. Wow!!
I love how the President doesn’t shy away from any situation. He takes it to them every time, though never abrasively. You go, Pres O!
PBO: “I can’t remember a time when the choice about our future has been so unambiguously clear.”
The free market is the greatest source for…
but I also share the belief of our first Republican president Abe.. Lincoln. Through government we must do together what we cannot do alone.
Quoting Lincoln about the important of government working together.
Obama jokes about hot mic incident. “Feel free to transmit any of this to Vladmir if you see him.”
Obama says they’ll be “hot mics and Etch-a-Sketch moments” in the campaign to come.
Obama: “There are also big fundamental issues at stake right now … Whoever he may be … the next president will inherit an economy that’s recovering, but not yet recovered.”
More: “Too many Americans will still be looking for a job that covers their bills. … Too many citizens will lack the financial security that started slipping away years before this recession hit.”
Obama talks about debt. “In the face of all these challenges, we’re going to have to answer a central question as a nation: what, if anything, can we do to restore a sense of security to people who are willing to work hard and act responsibility … can we succeed as a country where a shrinking number of people do exceedingly well” and everyone else struggles.
More: “This is not just another run of the mill political debate. I’ve said it’s the defining issue of our time. And I believe it. It’s why I ran in 2008, it’s what my presidency is about. It’s why I’m running again.”
Thanks so much, Mama Chips!
My thanks too. I come here to get things explained, broken down, translated and for serious as well as fun times. Thanks Chips.
Watching President Obama on CNN *sigh*, there is something about him that is so
so calming *sigh*
Indeed. No matter how panicked I am about my own situation, listening to him always manages to calm me and give me hope.
For generations these…have been supported by people in both parties, even though they may have been submitted by Republican or Democrat. ….Expressions of the fact that we are one nation.
This is a straight up populist speech about taking care of each other, protecting the working class, believing in the power of working together to do the best for our nation.
And he’s using it to hammer the current GOP that acts in bad faith in the name of politics.
In this country broad based prosperity has never trickled down….
“In this economy, broad-based prosperity has never trickled down from the success of a wealthy few.”
Shhhh, you’re giving Paul Ryan a sad.
PBO: “What drags down our economy is the ever widening chasm of the wealthy and everybody else.”
He denies the effectiveness of trickle down economics.
PBO: “For most of the last century we’ve been having the same argument about some version of trickle down economics.”
“We’ve tried their experiment. The results are there for all to see.”
Thanks, meta 🙂
The trickle down argument is outdated.
The trouble for the advocates of this theory is that we have tried their approach and the results of their experiment are there for all to see.
go Mr. President
I Love, Love, Love our President’s sense of humor when he told them (paraphasing) feel free to send this President Medvedev. I was in stitches.
He is letting them know that he knows about them and their spreading lies. The man is smart. And he does it with humor but he means every word.
President Obama is preaching and teaching. This is just riveting. And he just started talking……
AMAZING command of the every aspect of every topic. Absolutely riveting takedown of the idiot GOP. Pulling no punches.
why oh why do we keep trying trickle down economics in some version. taking them through the big tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 and what happened…maybe now with a tough economy we should not gut education, care for the elderly etc. but no they’ve double downed
After the results of these theories became clear you’d think that the proponents would show some humility. Instead of moderating their views, even slightly, they have doubled down.
quotng gingrich “right wing social engenering”
Lol, President Obama is kicking ass now
quoting romney , very supportive and he even said it’s marvelous…nice chuckle says that’s not a word you hear often or even in general (about enything)
Romney called the budget ‘marvelous’.. a word you don’t often hear when describing a budget….Here’s what this marvelous budget does….
Oh my. Bring the pain, Mr. Prez. Bring it :- D
LOL, PJ. LOL!
😆 😆 😆
I want to go through what it would mean to our country if this budget is accepted
I am so happy he is calling out the Republicans by name, and the GOP candidates too. This is what I have been wanting him to do. Joe has been doing, but I am happy PBO is doing it now.
OMG—-Romney called the Ryan budget “Marvelous!”—–a word you don’t often hear to describe a budget. hahahahahaha. Obama is awesomest of awesome. This campaign is going to be FUN!
Yes, we have to take our vitamins and exercise so we can keep up with the President. This is going to be so much fun. If Romney wins as expected he will have to take his vitamins too. I hear he likes to take a nap and gets tired easily.
The Romney-Ryan “marvelous” budget.
Sounds like their “excellent misadventure.” 🙂
I think Romney just got zipped back up Lol.
Romney lost his “stiffy”. There’s nothing to unzip!
😆
Ann will rub it; it will get stiff again then she will unzip it. Sorry, had to go there.
miss pat, it will take more than Miss Ann to stiffen what PBO just removed! There is NO GENIE in that bottle. Heh.
I don’t like to laugh when I am alone at home. Saw a man fall off his chair and died from laughing on teevee recently.
new budget breaks agreement ( BCA) and cut more. 10mill students see cut of 1000.00/yr research grants, clean energy by 1/5 start in 2014 200 thousand students loosde head start, lunch programs cut, national parks closed for much, FDA cuts, FFA, weather forecast cut. Longer early warnings hurt
Also live on YouTube (audio only):
perhaps they will never tell us where the knife will fall
He’s really boxing them into the corner. WOW.
by middle of century, we’ve have to cut things mentioned by 95%
PBO: “This is not an exaggeration. Check it out yourself.”
Pres is giving a simple math lesson. …..
You can be sure that with cuts this deep …. (lots of people with feel the pain [my words].)
this is not an exaggeration. check it out yourself! Not to mention HC. States would have to run the programs with the largest cuts ever. 19 million would loose
This is the most comprehensive account of the affects that the Republican Budget would have on our Nation. Dang, I wish this was in primetime.
Obama talks about wanting every citizen to be able to count on some basic measure of economic security. “no matter how responsibly we live our lives, any one of us at any moment might face hard times … might face bad luck … So we contribute to programs like Medicare and Social Security which guarantee health care and a source of income after a life time of hard work.”
Defends other entitlement programs, like Medicare and unemployment insurance. Talks about how entitlements have been supported by people in both parties. Talks about how Lincoln launched the Transcontinental railroad, land grand colleges, Nixon created the EPA, Eisenhower did the interstates, etc.
More: “These investments aren’t part of some scheme to redistribute wealth from one group to another … they are expressions of the fact that we are one nation.”
More: “Show me a business leader who wouldn’t profit if more Americans” didn’t get more education.
“It doesn’t make us weaker when we guarantee “ benefits to the sick, etc.
“What drags down our entire economy is when there’s an ever widening chasm between the ultra-rich and everybody else. In this country, broad-based prosperity has never trickled down from” a wealthy few.
More: “It’s why research has shown that countries with less inequality tend to have stronger and steadier economic growth over the long run. … Yet for much of the last century … we have been having the same argument with folks peddling some version of trickle down economics.”
Attacks trickle down economics. Obama says we’ve tried it and “the results of their experiment are there for all to see.”
Talks about the 2001 tax cuts … “We were promised that these tax cuts would lead to faster job growth … They did not. The wealthy got wealthier …”
Obama: “We’ve tried this theory out. You would think that after the results of this experiment in trickle down economics … after the results were made painfully clear, that the proponents of this theory might show some humility, might moderate their views a bit…”
“Maybe just maybe, at a time of growing debt and” growing inequality, we should hold off on more tax cuts.
More: “That’s exactly the opposite of what they” propose. “Instead of moderating their views even slightly, the Republicans running Congress right now have doubled down. They’re proposed a budget so far to the right that it makes the Contract With America look like the New Deal.”
Says that the “renowed liberal” Newt Gingrich first called the budget “social engineer.”
Obama: “And yet this isn’t a budget supported by some small … group in the Republican party. … This is the party’s platform”
Thank you guys because my ipad did not allow me to listen in 😦
President Obama is doing the job of MSM right now…I hope Americans don’t trust
these people that call themselves journalist after today, unless they start asking the hard questions
especially to Republicans and Romney.
Talking about the people who need medicaid. Now medicare (aging population). Voucher = cost of cheapest insurance in area. If costs rise higher too bad. Seniors bare risks. Not thru better care and lower costs, but cherry picking
Solution proposed by Republicans and supported by their majority = voucher for Medicare
Republicans in Congress refuse to list a single loop hole they are willing to close.
will end medicare as we know it. proponents say we have to do it because of the debt. 416 T to be spent in lower tax rates- through supposedly waste and loopholes- but they don’t say which. No way to do it w/o cutting middle class tax breaks!
I am in awe of this speech. He is just speaking the truth and shaming the devil.
Yes he sure is. And look at what they have to offer. Flip-flopper and his zipper wife or Ricky and his word salads trying to say blah and nigg like the coward he is and taking it back while sounding like the fool he is.
WHOAAAAAA!!!! HE IS TAKING THEM DOWN!!!!
HELLOOOOOO, CAMPAIGN 2012!!!!
This is supposed to be about paying down our deficit??? incredulous)
150,000 more on average to millionaires and billionaires- listed all the things that would be cut. Simpson-Bowles would cut deficit. Sincere, honest. His would have 6 b(?) less but…
President Obama is drinking their milkshake. This is just devastating.
Amazing Framing, very difficult for Romney to escape.
Well done.
Romney-Ryan Budget is a “Prescription for Decline”
This is a speech for the history books. Our great-grand children will be taking final exams on this speech… WOW!
It’s antithetical to our entire history……a prescription for decline. ….In the months ahead I will be fighting as hard as I know how…….
PBO: “America is a place where wealth doesn’t trickle down from the top but outward from the heart of the middle class.”
Preach it. The middle class has been bearing the burden for too long.
Trogan horse ..he is going fight harder than he ever has for the truer vision of America
There has GOT to be some balance. …. All of us have to do our fair share. ….
This is much more than a big bang start to his campaign, although it definitely lays down the template that he is going to run on. He is also telling every Democrat running for any position any where in the country, from Congress on down, how they should run. By tieing this budget to the Republican Party, not just a few Republicans, he is giving every Democt=rat an anchor to hang around the neck of each of their opponents.
In 2010, Dems, to their dismay, ran a defensive campaign (except for PBO). PBO is telling them to take it to their opponents and to start doing it now.
Politics, as they say, is local. But the issues he is talking about fit into every local election as well as the national.
‘By tieing this budget to the Republican Party, not just a few Republicans, he is giving every Democt=rat an anchor to hang around the neck of each of their opponents.’
In your opinion, Japa, do you think these Dems get this? Do you think they are really listening? Lord knows I hope so.
Boy, am I a horrible typist. But to answer your question, I think a lot of them will get it, specially in those districts where the TPers won in 2010. And in those districts where incumbent Republicans won, but only by 5% or less. Any Democrat that loses in those districts should look in a mirror when it comes time to explain why they lost.
So DWS reads my comments. I am flattered. 🙂
I hope she reads it. That was me sending her a tweet. 😆
CNN cut him off.
You see?
I NEVER watch him at CNN IF there is another alternative, and there usually is.
lower tac rate for wealthy than 50 years!
CNN, just cut in when it just getting good…f&%k** a%$hole
Maintain that tax break – richer Americans doing less, you have to cut programs-listed some
He is turning the Republicans Talking Points on his head.
I am so sorry that the majority of the country is not watching this speech. We have to spread this speech like wildfire!!!!
It will be on youtube and the younger generation will see it and spread the word. The older generation teabaggers will continue to listen to Faux News and digest wrong information. They are hopless.
We believe in order to pursue our own happiness we have to think about others and the country! I hopeMr. Prez!!!
This president is the best I’ve ever seen. I agree—-this speech needs to be on prime time.
NO ONE can outshine the brilliance of President Obama – how he frames the debate and the solutions he sees as inevitable. Patriotism.
Dear Chipsticks: Can anyone find and post the speech President Obama just gave? There were several pieces that must be used on porches this summer. I love my President!!!
the tire out “why can’t you all just get it done. Republicans have things to day about yur budget too… stoopid, rfeally first question
PBO is now taking questions.
Love it! Remind them about the debate ? 10:1 cuts, would you accept. Heck this is NOT about compromise on our side. It’s about the unreasonableness of this crazy teapub party
This is a MUST SEE speech. Just phenomenal on every level. This is the campaign I’m thrilled to join and fight for our success.
oh my goodness, while answering a question PBO just put ronald reagan on his side and took saint ronnie away from today’s republicans! “reagan couldn’t get through a republican primary today.” this man is brilliant.
Now he’s taking down the press for their “both sides do it” equivalence horseshit.
thank you, thank you. “the fale equivalency” argument laid out for the flipping media. The truth is NOT some where in the middle with both equally at fault!
Now why isn’t his wife there, steadying him? Doesn’t he know that Mitt needs the stability offered by HIS wife’s continued presence? How can PBO have an intelligent dialogue if his wife isn’t there? Geesh, someone should whisper in his ear that he’s not doing it right. 😉
Really! George H was the 1st prez to talk about cap and trade? I did not know!
See how our President teaches us? No wonder the media HATES when he talks to the American people.
PBO IS DESTROYING THE FAKE EQUIVALENCE CRAP. HE’S CALLING OUT THE MEDIA FOR DISHONEST REPORTING. THIS IS JUST FANTASTIC.
What did he say? Dang, I’m at work and can’t watch! I’ve been waiting for someone on our side to take this on!
Ladyhawke, I loved it when he told the media about that fake equivalence. It the Republicans who didn’t want to compromise.
As you’re doing your reporting my position on the budget, ACE ( responsibility mandate) and a host of other topics 15 yrs ago wold have been thought moderate. What has changed?
Not one republican would raise their hand to cut taxes 9-1 “THINK ABOUT THAT”, our President said.
That’s right Mr. President, You tell’em!
Lord, if only THREE reporters would leave this session with a renewed focus on THEIR responsibility in educating the voters on this budget I would feel good. Yes, these are low standards, but I’d take it as a start. 🙄 🙄
This is a drawdropping event. It reminds me of that time he went to the Republicans Retreat in MD and took them to the woodshed with just the facts Jack!
Not draw dropping. I meant jaw dropping. 😉
Mitt draw drops all the time, according to Ann.
LOL…a little Freudian slip huh?
Donna, I was just thinking the same thing. I have watched that retreat video many times. We are watching history being made right before our eyes. This is just remarkable. It takes my breath away.
And without a teleprompter. He killed that talking point.
I was just thinking along those lines DD4O. Thinking in fact that he is actually TEACHING these reporters in a very CLEAR way – he is an awesome teacher. The problem is their questions never seem to show that they are processing his answers. They show the same mindset every single time – picky, picky, picky, picking at the threads, and ignoring the fabric. They make it seem that THEY CANNOT LEARN! Pathetic.
These question are slanted, but he answers them with maturity, succinct, and a hear what I am telling you, kind of way(like a warning)!
Nice job.
No wonder the networks cut him off.
the questions are always slanted
I’m watching it on MSNBC right now, 10:31 PST
Hi Chips, i was trying to find the Friday’s good clip to show my daughter. I saw a YouTube message. Is it still available?
Hiya Ourmanflint, I haven’t moved it to the new TOD YouTube channel yet, but here it is:
Thank you so much Chips. I showed our Fridays Good to my Daughter and she was all smiles and laughter!!!!
My pleasure ourmanflint, thrilled your daughter liked it!
Thank you- clarifying that the SCOTUS has not overturned a law by congress dealing with commerce! The burden is on SCOTUS to over turn this law by precedent. Historically there is restraint. He expects it will be upheld. Reminding them of the human element! Letters he’s received.
Thanks for the live-blogging, TODers! Sounds like our President was his usual impressive, eloquent, ass-kicking self. Stomping all over the GOP primary in the process, lol.
Buckle up, Willard, it’s gonna be one bumpy ride, and I really don’t think you’re ready for this.
He’s going to be on Shamus’ roof.
LOL. We’re going to MAKE SURE Seamus has his revenge. Long live Seamus, woof!
Seamus watching from dog heaven and is loving every minute of the flip-flopper bashing. If dogs could talk and he was here he could stell us a lot.
People better wake up to the reality that this man is the only thing that stands between the American dream and Paul Ryan’s twisted fantasy of having ninety eight percent of us living in cardboard boxes and working in a fertilizer fantasy making three cents a week. What were the people of Wisconsin thinking when they decided to inflict this Ayn Rand rat face weasel on the rest of us? Romney will make that fantasy come true.
Two ways to cover most people including pre-existing- single payer or individual responsibility mandate
I notice that there were no usual snarky tweets from Mark Knoller
Mark’s growing up, maybe? After all he’s been ‘in class’ long enough to be passing the test by now.
I’m not sure where he is right now. I just haven’t seen any tweets from him for the entire duration of the speech and Q&A session – which is unusual.
If he was smart he would be someplace cowering in fear at the very thought of Paul Ryan’s budget becoming law of the land. The President laid it out in beautifully stark terms and it is one long ugly nightmare. By the time Ryan was done the U.S would make Niger look wealthy.
I doubt it. He is at this minute thinking of something snarky to write or tweeting his friends for ideas.
HF2, how was the twitter reaction to the speech? I swear we have to make this video viral. I want everyone to see this fantastic leader of ours in action.
IMO it was one of the best speeches he has given.
Not good! The right is dominating the Twitter freakout over this speech.
And I mean freakout.
The President hit a nerve.
Jovie that is not true. The right wing may be freaking out but they are not dominating the Twitterverse. It depends on who you are following, but generally the reaction is positive.
Take it easy. Who’s nerve did he hit Jovie? The right wing. Who cares.
POTUS told the truth.
Extremely positive! Even on Old Orange folks were literally falling over themselves with awe and praise.
I just checked in with some PL friends and they are ecstatic.
Just in- next week, Robney to give speech to Reuters.
Bet?
Yep and we wll be waiting with abated breath…not!
I wish PBO could have done the Supreme Court oral arguments.
This is why I voted for him in 2008, and plan to vote for in Nov. 6th,2012. He was fantastic.
That really should have been rquired viewing for every Amerian. Too bad it was not prime time, and on all the networks. Think about how many times in the long ago past that I was miffed when a president interrupted my day time TV. I’ve reminded of Sasha ” you’re going to be on ALL the channels?” No Sasha, Nickolodean will not be interrupted.
It was in front of AP. That was the key.
You follow?
Omg! Halperin is correct. Twitter is freaking out over what the President said.
Good Lord!
Yeah the same guy who told us that everything was “excellent news for John McCain!”
Mark Halperin :
” Twitter is exploding ”
Great reporting Mark….
Hot daymn. Go sock it to them, Mr President.
Love our Prez!! i can listen to this man all day long.
Romney you better be dam ready cause POTUS is not playing. This election is to important for our country, for the middle class and this President is going to fight like hell for this country, and we are going to be right there with him fighting. We have his back.
The Campaign framing for 2012- GOP = Social Darwinism . Excellent. All Dems should use it!
Mitt Romney = “Marvelous”
And don’t forget this one
Romney-Ryan Budget is a “Prescription for Decline”
I like that.
I also like what I saw somewhere: “Path to Poverty” (to play directly off Ryan’s so-called “Path to Prosperity”).
omg are we gonna have some fun this election, POTUS taking zero prisoners.. smartest person in the room.. still 🙂
Lost the cnn stream. Was ti deliberate or my ‘puter ?
Andrea Mitchell is not too happy:
I get the feeling this is her way of saying wow did they get smacked.
True.
I hope the GOP candidates are peeing themselves…. Or investing in Depends. Who among them is ready to take this man on? Not a one, not a single one.
Should we buy some Depends stock? They better just forget about running for election this year. The President won already.
New post everyone:
http://theobamadiary.com/2012/04/03/marvelous/
So true, so true.
Following Obama’s speech Tuesday afternoon, Paul Ryan released the following statement on the House Budget Committee’s website:
“History will not be kind to a President who, when it came time to confront our generation’s defining challenge, chose to duck and run. The President refuses to take responsibility for the economy and refuses to offer a credible plan to address the most predictable economic crisis in our history. Instead, he has chosen tired and cynical political attacks as he focuses on his own re-election.
“The President has offered four budgets during his four years in the White House – each committed to funding ever-higher government spending by taking more from hardworking Americans and adding to a crushing burden of debt. His failed agenda is stifling opportunity and hope for the next generation.
“Like his reckless budgets, today’s speech by President Obama is as revealing as it is disappointing: While others lead by offering real solutions, he has chosen to distort the truth and divide Americans in order to distract from his failed record. His empty promises are quickly becoming broken promises – and the American people will hold him accountable for this violation of their trust.”

Crybaby
I got a more harsh term but this is a family show.
Have I mentioned how much I hate these people?!?!?!
Were they concerned about the debt when they were tripling it, squandering our surplus, lying about the costs of war, and deregulating the entire banking industry until it was less regulated than a casino?
Debt reduction while giving MORE tax cuts to the rich, who have become wealthier while millions of hardworking Americans were unemployed?!?!?!
How did Reagan win in 1984? By spending us out of a recession, Eddie Munster.
So the buzz words are “reckless”, “distort” and “divide”. From the assholes who would rather trash the U.S. credit rating than do anything for the country.
Effing traitors. They are no less than effing traitors.
Oh, one more thing, Eddie Munster: Mitt Romney does not work hard. Millionaires are not working hard. Hardworking Americans would like to build roads and bridges and schools and are willing to pay a fair share of taxes.
Asshole.
C-Span has the whole speech up now.
