Maybe the first thing Romney’s people need to do is show him how to hold a baby. It’s obvious that he’s never done it before–even though he has 4 or 5 sons.

Exactly. I was thinking of the correct wording to use. The way he hands them back to their parents one would think he doesn’t have 5 children of his own and multiple grandkids. It’s just weird.

      • 24 nathkatun7
        March 31, 2012 at 9:31 pm

I think all of Mitt’s kids and grand kids were probably raised by nannies. I could be wrong,of course, but the way he holds babies tells me that he never had anything to do with raising babies. As a father who learned how to change diapers and enjoyed rocking my kids to sleep, President Obama is my kind of guy!

It’s good to be back. It’s been frustrating not being able to post. I am such a bimbo when it comes to technology! I’ve been lurking and loving all the pics of the Obama’s. PBO is just so amazing!

Been busy this end, my wonderful little boy has just started at his new school after a bullying problem at his previous one which was not dealt with but he is soooo happy at his new school which is nearer home and much stricter. Already there has been such an improvement in his grades and he feels he is a valuable part of the school but all his friends miss him. He saw an old mate today who gave him a whole bunch of messages from his old friends. As PBO said in the Dinner with Barack and Michelle video your kids are the most important thing in your life and when they are ill (or in my son’s case distressed) your whole life focusses on them.

Love you all and glad to be back.

Hi Sam UK. So good to see you here. I am hurt to hear about you little one having to go through such a very painful and stressful thing as bullying, but he is now in a loving, careful, and happier school setting. Give him a ((((((From all the wonderful teachers who love you)))
from the teachers on this site. No child should have to go through this.

Your children are your most precious gifts in this world and not one of them should be exposed to this ugly practice that is becoming so common. However, it seems that you have things under control and even a better situation with him being closer home and the school seem to be well structured to your taste for his learning. That is so important.

Take good care of yourself and please come back and know how things are progressing. I am elated to hear that his grades have improved along with his feeling of being a loving and valuable person at his new school. I wish him the very best. Love you back.HZ

The laughing baby is absolutely delicious. Throwing the lime wedge at the tv was too funny. It’s interesting, I have felt the same way when seeing Mitt Romney on the tv machine. Because if Mitt Romney’s lips are moving, he’s lying.

  20. March 31, 2012 at 3:22 pm

You would think that a man who has fathered AND raised FIVE sons would look more comfortable around babies. What is up with this situation? The old wives tale about you can’t fool children/babies when it comes to the inner workings of the hearts of people is depicted in these photos. The babies look so relaxed with President Obama, and so unhappy and agitated with Mitt Romney. He handles the babies as if they are sacks of potatoes.

    • 49 LunarSea
      March 31, 2012 at 3:32 pm

I don’t believe he ever touched his sons when they were babies. Someone who needs elevators for their cars has wet nurses and nannies to raise their children.

    • 50 desertflower
      March 31, 2012 at 3:33 pm

It’s called NANNIES! He was too busy working sending American jobs overseas and making money hand over fist on cheap labor…..Kids? can’t SOMEONE take care of this?

      • 51 LunarSea
        March 31, 2012 at 3:45 pm

I think it is beyond just his work. I don’t think he is capable of putting another being before himself. Babies make you do that to varying degrees. That and they can be dirty. Does he look like someone who does ‘dirty’?

    • 52 gn
      March 31, 2012 at 3:45 pm

The way in which Romney’s holding those babies is so strange. Even Bush knew how to hold a baby, even if they didn’t like him as much as babies like PBO.

    • 53 virginia
      April 1, 2012 at 10:07 pm

I’ve noticed when Romney is on stage with his family there’s something strangely cold in their relationship. There is no warmth. I see the same thing when Santorum is on stage with his children. I’m not saying they don’t love their kids, but I think that coldness is what results when you have children just to say you had them. They haven’t the slightest idea what to do with them after they’re here.

I think that SNL skit spoofing the Romney boys was not only hilarious, but spot on. There’s something “plastic” about the whole family.

Sarah Palin’s relationship with her kids was a little different. I think she loves them, but she goes from appearing to ignore them, dragging them around as props.

Probably the last functioning Republican family in the White House were the Fords, at least they seemed to like each other.

Love the pics SO much – Chips, you are truly a treasure. Obviously Mittens didn’t participate at all with his own kids. And now his grandkids (taking them to see Hunger Games doesn’t count). Should’ve taken them to see “Bully.” Certainly nothing wrong with having nannies, unless his wife did all the baby stuff.

I love how babies are so intuitive and, born w/o prejudices (not that I’m any kind of geneticist), but

OT, but I wonder if someone has stumbled across the guy below on twitter. I have no idea how I got there and most def wish I hadn’t. Warning alert, if you’re eating or drinking, you may need some Pepto after seeing this! At first glance I thought it might be satire ala Colbert, but after checking out his profile…well, you can make your own judgment. Scariest of all is that he has over 250,000 followers. By the way Jennifer, there are hundreds of sites like that on the internet. I “stumble” across them all the time, inadvertently. But I don’t go out of my way to share them–especially here. There was a reason conservatives once supported the individual mandate

    By Ezra Klein

The real fight is over whether the Affordable Care Act should exist at all. Republicans lost that battle in Congress, where they lacked a majority in 2010. Now they hope to win it in the Supreme Court, where they hold a one-vote advantage. The argument against the individual mandate is a pretext for overturning Obamacare. But it’s a pretext that could set a very peculiar precedent.

If the mandate falls, future politicians, who will still need to fix the health-care system and address the free-rider problem, will be left with the option of either moving toward a single-payer system or offering incredibly large, expensive tax credits in order to persuade people to do things they don’t otherwise want to do. That is to say, in the name of liberty, Republicans and their allies on the Supreme Court will have guaranteed a future with much more government intrusion in the health-care marketplace.

  34. March 31, 2012 at 5:01 pm

The DNC releasd a statement from Dr. Colin Kahl, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East:

“Having been in many sensitive meetings with our allies around the world, the Romney campaign’s comment shows a remarkable naiveté about foreign policy.

“For example, does Governor Romney think we should release all the notes and transcripts of the President’s conversations with our allies, such as the Israelis and Europeans, tipping our hand to Tehran about every last element of our strategy to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon?

“Our friends around the world need to trust that they can speak with the President of the United States in confidence, and that these conversations will not be politicized during an election. Such a dramatic and unprecedented step would undermine the ability of the United States to successfully conduct foreign policy at a time when our nation faces numerous challenges abroad, and suggesting it is just a reckless attempt to score cheap political points. It is yet another indication that Mitt Romney is not ready to be Commander-in-Chief.”

The Democrats are taking an opening to paint Romney as a lightweight on serious issues. Yesterday, they said that Romney’s foreign policy left a series of unanswered question, an attempt to bracket his upcoming foreign policy speech as insubstantial. Republicans have pounced on President Obama’s open-mic moment, but the foreign policy fight is one that Democrats show every sign of seeing as a winnable fight for them.

The coolest thing happened today. I am in traffic with my hubby and kid. Then I look to my right and this guy is straining his neck to look in my car. I get this all the time living in this red district. I was getting ready to say Oh, Lord another one, and before I could finish my sentence, he raised his thumb, and mouthed the word “Obama” three times. Of course, I returned the favor.

Two days ago on the other hand, I was in traffic and had seen this elderly white haired couple. Saw them looking at me as they eased up in the next lane. We continued on. Further down, the right lane (mine) was merging and I tried to get over, it appeared as though those folks deliberately squeezed me out. I said to myself, oh, how Christian of you. They looked like the kind that would be in the front pew on Sunday.

Further up, we met up at the red light. I looked at them both and just smiled.

africatimes2, that is how those people are. They claim to be such christian, but truth be known they don’t know who the heck Jesus Christ is, and then they have the nerve question if this President is a christian. And most of them are racists too.

So the media has resumed the carnival barking about the ACA (I guess after getting their orders from Karl Rove/RNC). They were quiet yesterday. From what I understand, the vote yesterday is not really the final vote but can be changed up to the day in June the final decision is made. No doubt the media will try to influence the outcome if they didn’t like what happened yesterday. CNN swears up and down that there have been no press releases or leaks from the Supreme CT preliminary votes yesterday. But I don’t know how true that is.

I should clarify – CNN. They are highly invested because they’ve paid Toobin a handsome amount to spread anti-ACA propaganda and to try to convince the supreme CT to vote a certain way.

For some reason, Jeffrey Toobin in highly invested in the ACA law being struck down and he’s back on CNN braying about it. Harry Reid in a televised statement this week stated that he (Reid) has had far more experience with the court system at every level (e.g.,federal, appellate, cicuit, supreme) than Toobin has, and that contrary sounding arguments in courts mean very little when it comes to the final outcome.

For a lot of these so-called “legal scholars” on cable news, it’s a personal thing for them where they try to match wits and knowledge with President Obama, and become invested in a particular outcome just to prove HIM wrong and make themselves feel better. I recall the same thing happened with the repeal of DADT, and how some progressive pundits were reluctant to admit that PBO’s method of going through repeal via congress was a superior route than signing an Executive Order. They swore up and down that he would never find the votes, some of them even going as far as suggesting that the Log Cabin Republicans were better advocates than PBO for the LGBT community.

hopefruit2, I am not telling you who to watch or what to watch, but I do ask why would you even waste your time listening to Toobin and all the others?

        March 31, 2012 at 6:36 pm

I’m don’t think I’m wasting my time. 🙂 Most of my posts are not for myself or for you or any particular TODer. They’re for the wider community of concerned voters , some of whom lurk on our site but don’t necessarily post. Many people are unsure of what’s going on and some people take everything they hear or read from the MSM as accurate. Some are not yet on to the antics of CNN, Toobin and the wider media, and posts like these are to help others to see how the MSM have their own vested interests in particular outcomes – which they disguise as simply “reporting” or “expert analysis” or such term.

          March 31, 2012 at 7:03 pm

Okay watch them, it’s your choice. 🙂 But don’t be shock when all you hear is alot of B.S. from CNN and others who’s agenda is to bring down the President. CNN has truly change from many years ago.

In 2008, when Greenfield became pregnant, and when she told Toobin the news, he offered her “money if she’d have an abortion,” says a source. He also allegedly offered to pay for her to have another child later via a sperm donor.

“When Casey wouldn’t have an abortion, Jeff told her she was going to regret it, that she shouldn’t expect any help from him,” claims another source.

Toobin is married to someone else. He is also a Libertarian…

      Just sayin’

So Andrea Mitchell disingenuously says both Dems and GOP are suppressing the votes. How do these people look themselves in the mirror?

    • 136 anniebella
      March 31, 2012 at 6:56 pm

Why would the Democrats want to suppress the vote? As I said before I do my very best not to listen to these people unless I have to, like POTUS is speaking and they are covering him.

      • 137 hopefruit2
        March 31, 2012 at 6:59 pm

Mitchell is trying to generate enthusiasm among the GOP – something that is sorely lacking right now. So she has to lie and pretend that Democrats are also suppressing the votes. No amount of outrage over possible voter suppression will generate enthusiasm for Willard.

President Barack Obama is to attend two fundraisers in metro Detroit on April 18, though, at this point, no public events have been announced in connection with the trip.

A campaign official confirmed that the president will attend a fundraiser at the Henry Ford in Dearborn and another at the home of Denise Ilitch and Jim Scalici in Bingham Farms.

Tickets for the 3 p.m. event at the Henry Ford will start at $250 per person. For $1,000 a contributor can go to a VIP reception and get rope line access. For $5,000, a contributor can also attend a photo reception – presumably to get a photo with the president.

Political professionals agree that the Supreme Court’s decision in the [Citizens United] case and subsequent rulings have given wealthy individuals and corporations an expanded range of options to spend millions of dollars in elections. What is not so understood is that unions profited from Citizens United, too. They can tap their treasuries to organize, donate to super PACs, and expand their get-out-the-vote operations with new, potent practices.

The old campaign finance laws “kept us from speaking out in a robust way,” said Michael Podhorzer, the political director for the AFL-CIO. “Citizens United, though in an unwelcome way, has solved that problem.” …

To keep the field level, the AFL-CIO plans to have 400,000 members registering voters and getting out the vote this year. Thanks to Citizens United, those volunteers will be able to knock on all doors as they canvass a neighborhood–not just those of fellow union members. The federation has social-media projects, a super PAC, and an experiment that will be studied by both friends and foes this year: Instead of gearing up and then closing shop in each campaign cycle, it is placing full-time political professionals in Florida, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. There will be more states to come, says AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, and the teams will keep working after Election Day, preparing for the next round of local, state, or federal campaigns.

RNC draws heat over ad with doctored Supreme Court audio

“This is the single most classless and misleading thing I’ve ever seen related to the Court,” attorney Tom Goldstein wrote on his SCOTUS blog. “It is as if the RNC decided to take an incredibly serious and successful argument that has the chance to produce a pathbreaking legal victory for a conservative interpretation of the Constitution, drag it through the mud, and vomit on it.”

Looks like Senator Sanders is blocking Postal reform bill. He wants purity.
What he will end up with getting, is several hundred post offices closing, and tens of thousands of layoffs. Because, he wants purity and not compromise. Nice job.
