    • March 30, 2012 at 4:42 pm

Congrats on the first CollegeKay. I just dropped $31 in the bucket in honor of my 31st birthday today. No, I wouldn’t dare asking for a cake or picture (wet or not). I’m just a lurker. Plus, Iโ€™m afraid that would heighten my obsession to this site. Thanks Chips and TOD for this safe haven. Iโ€™m always here. Well, except for that party last weekend. You want to know how much time I spend here? OK, I can read a comment and guess 8 out of 10 times who posted it. ๏Š
And, also, too, this clip of the people going wild just from, โ€œNow, Iโ€™m hereโ€ must leave Mitten scratching his head. Mitt is thinking aloud: “what’s the big deal? He didn’t even say anything. I’ve said more words and paused, and they just stared back. I even smiled. My hair was well combed, I checked. I remembered to relax my shoulders. I told myself I liked this crowd 10,000 times. I don’t get it. I need someone to study this video and report to me by tomorrow how to do what he just did. And I want you to instruct everyone in my audience how to cheer like that when they see me”. Aieyayahhh… Mitten is befuddled by the intellect, charisma and talent of this beautiful man.
There was a little head tilt here; a smile there; really, bottom lip bitingโ€ฆ oh, he took off his jacket in that way that only he can? I give up.Thatโ€™s just showing off now Mr. President. Perhaps, Iโ€™m wrong. So, Iโ€™ll study this video and the Al Green video again.

2 months?!?! He’s had nothing to do and nothing else on his mind for 6 years and as Rachel just said on Martin’s show, Willard doesn’t know the difference between an Afghan citizen and an Afghan unit of currency. He is phenomenally stupid and because life has been so disgustingly easy for him, he has no interest or appreciation for how complex life is. He scares me more than any other Republican because he is devoid of conscience or humility. He is a danger to this country and the world.

Of course, you would end up in the owner’s box. If I were to win (and of course I am not even going to try) I would wear my absolutely rattiest clothes just so afterwards I could talk about how condescending he was.

Doesn’t matter how long you stay up and study if you have an impenetrable brain and heart. He will do his best to mimic the president, but it will be sow’s ear all the way. Who wants a lousy imitation when you can get the genuine things in the president himself.

      • 67 0388jojothecat
        March 30, 2012 at 5:30 pm

Willad must be going to bed when the “good parts” of PBO 101 come on because he STILL doesn’t know how to even imitate PBO. You can not LEARN what PBO knows…you have to be TAUGHT, you have to EXPERIENCE what PBO has gone through, you would have to experience different cultures, seen or lived poverty, and PBO’s spirituality came to him late in life so that he fully understands it. Willard was born into priviledge, never experienced nor seen poverty or had it touch him deeply as a human being and if you can’t have empathy for an animal (poor seamus), how can you have any for a living breathing human being. Willard was raised to only admire other men, wealth, and material things…that’s all he knows and that’s what is important to him.

OK, so I’m not huge fan of Krugman, whose incessant whining throughout the first 3 years of PBO’s presidency made me want to scream, but this is a very good piece:

Thank you Meta for sharing Krugman’s piece. I agree with you that it was “a very good piece.” It’s true Krugman was a pain in the you know what for the past three years. But unlike the firebaggers and the Naderites, he never totally embraced the silly claim that there was no difference between Democrats and Republicans. In any case, this is an excellent piece that exposes the simplistic, and purely partisan, thinking of the right wing ideologues on the Supreme Court. I now and then read the NY Times in the library. Recently, Krugman has been writing more good pieces that are quite critical of the Republicans.

Outside of what was said in that speech, best part? PBO taking off his jacket and rolling up his sleeve. He looked so comfortable and practiced, I secretly hoped some randy women in the audience would answer him back when he said: “I’m taking off my jacket,” “Take it off, Mr. President, take it all off.” — so inappropriate but I really was hoping someone would do that, mostly because it would be something I would be tempted to say if I were in the audience. Romney’s response to the President’s campaign request for his tax returns.

โ€œThe Obama campaign is playing politics, just as heโ€™s doing in his conduct of foreign policy,” Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul wrote. “Obama should release the notes and transcripts of all his meetings with world leaders so the American people can be satisfied that heโ€™s not promising to sell out the countryโ€™s interests after the election is over.โ€

Who isn’t falling down laughing with the line, “the Obama campaign is playing politics.” You have to be dumb as a brick to make a stupid statement like that and have as much self-awareness as a gnat. Among the mountain of stupidities is comparing the perfectly natural request for personal information from a candidate who has been very secretive about his past and a a request that high level international discussions that could affect national security be made public. Is Romney nuts?

    • March 31, 2012 at 1:01 am

Willard’s lesson plan for Friday Mar 30th, 2012:

    1. Learn how to say “I love you back” to the audience in the same way as President Obama.

    2. Learn to take your jacket off in a slick and sexy way – thus sending the crowd wild.

    3. Learn to flash a megawatt smile and do the “PBO chuckle” when the crowd gives positive feedback.

I turned off my teevee about 20 months ago, have been working massive hours all through, and I don’t miss it one little bit. I did watch the entire first season of Downton on Chistmas Day, as I had missed it all, and then I watched season two as it came across on PBS. I have been reading the comments about the ACA, all the doom and gloom! Remember all the doom and gloom that was taking place the summer before it passed? It was our presidentsโ€™ waterloo. We all gave up on it, it was dead…but our president did not and by some wondrous events it became law…and we marveled. So here we are again today…oh the doom and gloom!
Strange thing, this mandate…such a republican idea and now those that once proclaimed it to be the right thing vilify it.
But…what I am disappointed in all this debate, not only about the ACA, but the contraceptive debacle, โ€ฆโ€ฆwhere was the voice of our female Surgeon General? My husband and I are both physicians, and time and time I have ask that same question. For the past two years she should of been out in the country, talking about the merits and explaining to people all across the country what the ACA is and more importantly…what it is not. She could have surrounded herself with physicians from the communities she was visiting that believe in the ACA. Physicians, not politicians, could be directing the debate. The AMA (American Medical Association) came out in favor of the ACA. Where was our Surgeon General when the Death Panels vs. Advanced Directives fiasco was going on? All physicians want to have informed Advanced Directives in each of their patientsโ€™ charts. In the military (I was a Navy physician) every patient was expected to have an Advanced Directive.
This whole mess may have been avoided by having a strong Surgeon General. Imagine having our Surgeon General with Dr Oz, taking questions? Going on the morning talk shows.
Our President is a smart man, smarter than any of us here. I for one will not be playing the โ€œsky is fallingโ€ game, I will have my Presidents back, I know all of the TOD family has his back too, but please no more โ€œthe sky is fallingโ€.
When our President gets his second term, I want to see a new Surgeon General that takes the fight to the public. What do the rest of you think?

    • 200 politicaljunkessa
      March 30, 2012 at 4:35 pm

      Very good points, Carla.

I have often wondered where the medical community was during this whole debate. It seems like the only doctors we heard from were cranks like Ron Paul and some corrupt senators.

Definitely would have helpful to hear from the Surgeon General. She’s disappeared. Maybe dealing with the white-hot, out-of-control politics of healthcare reform is more than she bargained for?

I do think the messaging will gain momentum and clarity during the summer and fall months going into the election…at least I hope so.

Got paid today, so I tossed what I could into the plate.
When you talk to PBO (and I believe that you will) please tell him that we love him, pray for him and that we’ve got his back. And ask him to stop by TOD from time to time:)

    Best of luck to you.

Mrs. Obama is traveling on a government–political–vacation swing with daughters Malia, 13 and Sasha, 10–who fit right in the Nickelodeon demographic.

President Barack Obama is moving ahead with tough new sanctions aimed at squeezing Iranโ€™s oil exports after determining there is enough crude on world markets to take the step without harming U.S. allies.

Obamaโ€™s move allows the U.S. to go forward with sanctions on foreign banks that continue to purchase oil from Iran. The sanctions aim to further isolate Iranโ€™s central bank, which processes nearly all of the Islamic Republicโ€™s oil purchases, from the global economy.

U.S. officials hope ratcheting up economic pressure will both push Iran to abandon its disputed nuclear program and convince Israel to give sanctions time to take hold before pursuing a military strike on Iranโ€™s nuclear facilities. The U.S. and allies believe that Iran is pursuing a nuclear bomb; Iran denies that.

I don’t think she was appointed when that debage was going on. The GOp Senate held up the appointment and then the nominee gave up and they ended up appointing another one. If I am wrong on this someone let me know. thanks

I’m so thrilled that the President went to Vermont….first presidential visit to the state in 17 years! Not since President Clinton has a president been in the state. Also, so proud of Vermont. My family has deep roots in Vermont, back hundreds of years. My father didn’t stay, but there are any people with my last name in various cemeteries around the state. Also, my husband’s family has deep roots in Vermont. What a reception he got!
