How about an afternoon chuckle, eh?

This is one of those stories where you begin to chuckle….then find yourself laughing out loud.

Pocket Taser Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife. A guy who purchased his lovely wife a pocket Taser for their anniversary submitted this.

Last weekend I saw something at Larry’s Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse-sized taser. The effects of the taser were supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety….??

‘WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home.

I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button AND pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I’d get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs.

    AWESOME!!!

Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave.

Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn’t be all that bad with only two triple-A batteries, right?

There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target.

I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong?

So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and taser in another.

The directions said that a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries.? ? All the while I’m looking at this little device measuring about 5″ long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference; pretty cute really and (loaded with two itsy, bitsy triple-A batteries) thinking to myself, “no possible way!”

What happened next is almost beyond description, but I’ll do my best…? ? I’m sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side as to say, “don’t do it master,” reasoning that a one- second burst from such a tiny little ole thing couldn’t hurt all that bad. I decided to give myself a one-second burst just for heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and . . .

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION!

I’m pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner , then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again.

I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs?

The cat was standing over me making meowing sounds I had never heard before, licking my face, undoubtedly thinking to herself, “Do it again, stupid, do it again!”

Note: If you ever feel compelled to “mug” yourself with a taser, one note of caution: there is no such thing as a one-second burst when you zap yourself!

You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor.

A three-second burst would be considered conservative?

SON-OF-A-… That hurt like **% !!! A minute or so later (I can’t be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. How did they get up there??? My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. I’m still looking for my testicles! I’m offering a significant reward for their safe return!! Still in shock!

    P. S. My wife loved the gift, and now regularly threatens me with it!

“If you think Education is difficult, try being stupid.”

    President Obama, Fiscal Conservative? YES!!
    http://botc.tcf.org/2012/03/graph-of-the-day-president-obama-fiscal-conservative.html

A graph that purports to establish Bill Clinton and Barack Obama as the two most fiscally conservative presidents in modern history has been making its way through the blogosphere, after first originating on Century Foundation Fellow Mark Thoma’s Economist’s View blog. Thoma’s submitter explains:

Seeing the Krugman commentary comparing real government spending under Obama and Reagan made me curious about what it looks like if you express it in per capita terms? In particular, how does the Obama period compare with other presidencies in terms of penury/austerity versus spendthriftness?

    […]

Ranking since Johnson (starting in 1968), and using the first-quarter comparisons, and calculating growth under Obama through 2011Q4, Clinton is the most austere, followed by Obama. The most spendthrift are (1) Nixon-Ford, (2) Reagan, and (3) Bush II.

So, the story one frequently hears on the right about the massive expansion of government spending under Obama—and liberal profligacy in general—just doesn’t hold up to the facts. Still, there’s been some pushback from commenters wondering about the role of inflation, or whether the story changes when you divide government spending into separate categories for national defense and human resources (employment and social services, Medicare, Social Security, veterans benefits, et cetera). So here is my own version of the graph, which shows annualized growth in government spending on national defense and human resources througout the last seven presidencies, from Q1 to Q1. All of the data is from the Office of Management and Budget historical tables.

Let’s remember, what made Reagan so effing popular in the 1984 election was because of how he turned around the recession (that he created with tax cuts) by RAISING taxes and spending until the economy turned around.

This is the absolute TRUTH ignored by the media and the Obama haters! Besides raising taxes and spending like “drunken sailor,” Reagan left the presidency having accumulated the largest deficit in the history of the Republic! Gore Vidal was right! This country has become the UNITED STATES OF AMNESIA! All these right wingers who are for small government and a constitutional Amendment to balance the budget are the biggest worshipers of St. Ronnie Reagan. Of course they are enabled by the so called mainstream media who never bother to challenge them. Here are some of the questions that the media should be asking Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Ron Paul and Mitt Romney:

        1. Which President accumulated the largest deficit, Jimmy Carter or Ronald Reagan?
        2. Which President balanced the federal budget after 8 years in office, Bill Clinton or George W. Bush?
        3. How much deficit did President Obama inherit from President Bush?
        4. Who created more private sector jobs, George W. Bush in 8 years or Barack Obama in 3 years?

I am sick and tired of the so called mainstream media accepting the meme that the Republicans peddle about being for balanced budget and job creation. The only thing Republicans are for is gutting the programs that help the poor while subsidizing the oil companies, increasing military spending, starting expensive wars, and granting massive and unfair tax cuts to the rich.

          March 22, 2012 at 8:43 am

I’d forgotten that great line of Vidal’s. Certainly fits the current situation.

Here’s a critical difference: Republicans were just cynical spouters of nonsense then, but had no intention of actually following through on any of the craziness. But they nurtured their furthest fringes until that fringe became the party. The Atlantic Monthly issue a few months back that focused o “What if Obama Loses” was chilling. All the details are fascinating but it boils down to one point:

          This time they mean it.

Expect that everything they say they will do, they WILL do if we allow them an inch more power.

          Chilling.

I’ve seen people on twitter using a name that does not being to them, such as Queen Elizabeth, and send some very insulting and vulgar tweets. Twitter has found some way to verify the true identity of famous people, to avoid others following the wrong handle. I don’t use Twitter myself, but I do follow a handful of people through my bookmarks, which works great, except I can’t retweet or reply. That doesn’t matter to me, I just like to read. I noticed someone had (was it you, Dudette?) added dalai lama as a suggestion for bobfr yesterday, but noted it was not the verified handle. Thought I would supply it, as it is important to use the right one. Fascinating about HHDL, I have watched his followers grow from less than half a million to nearly 4 million in two years. He gains followers every day! His words are always comforting, supportive and loving. So, @DalaiLama to get to the right page. Note: he follows no one. I love that!

A line that will be tough to live down

I’m very much inclined to agree. The knock on Romney since Day One has been that he’s a shallow, unprincipled politician, willing to say anything to anyone to win. “Etch A Sketch” is so perfect a metaphor, it’s extraordinary that it came from the candidate’s own communications director.

I have always said that Romney has spent months trying to convince these right wing nuts that he was indeed conservative enough. Then in the general election he will try to come back to the middle and reach out to moderates and independents, if he tries that, he will lose those radical right wing conservatives, because the first thing they will say is I always knew I could not trust Mitt Romney.

    ————–
When 28-year-old George Zimmerman was discovered by Sanford, Florida police standing over the body of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, they accepted Zimmerman’s claim that he killed in self-defense as a neighborhood watch captain. Now, through a statement released by the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) — the parent organization of USAonWatch-Neighborhood Watch — it has been revealed that Zimmerman was not a member of any group recognized by the organization. Zimmerman violated the central tenets of Neighborhood Watch by following Martin, confronting him and carrying a concealed weapon.

“In no program that I have ever heard of does someone patrol with a gun in their pocket,” Carmen Caldwell, the Executive Director of Citizens’ Crime Watch of Miami-Dade, told theGrio. “Every city and municipality has their own policies. Here in Miami-Dade we train people only to be the eyes and ears of their communities. Not to follow and most definitely not to carry a weapon.”

Smerconnish said that usually these sorts of stories break on racial lines, but that his callers to his radio show showed an across the board condemnation by all races against this outrageous FL law and its consequences, and Zimmerman.

Is there a chance that Jeb’s endorsement today is more about this albatross hanging around his neck than his great enthusiasm for Mitt Romney? Maybe not the only the factor but I bet it was factored in.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A bipartisan group of 34 senators has introduced a resolution condemning a ruthless guerrilla group accused of widespread atrocities in Africa and its leader, Joseph Kony.

The measure backs the effort of African nations to end the threat posed by the Lord’s Resistance Army and the attempt by the United States to help regional forces pursuing him and his forces. But Jamil Smith flags the former Florida governor’s full statement, and it’s worth checking out.

“Congratulations to Governor Mitt Romney on his win last night and to all the candidates for a hard fought, thoughtful debate and primary season. Primary elections have been held in thirty-four states, and now is the time for Republicans to unite behind Governor Romney and take our message of fiscal conservatism and job creation to all voters this fall. I am endorsing Mitt Romney for our Party’s nomination. We face huge challenges, and we need a leader who understands the economy, recognizes more government regulation is not the answer, believes in entrepreneurial capitalism and works to ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to succeed.”

That’s it. That’s the whole endorsement. There was no public appearance; no interview; no joint rally. Just a four-sentence press release, which couldn’t have been more generic.

I’m actually getting used to tornadoes in January and record numbers of storms every effing year. No, Mr. holier-than-thou Santorum, God did not give man dominion over the Earth in order to make it unlivable for all creatures, including mankind. You effing nitwit. He gave us our minds and our moral responsibility. You have no use for the human mind and you pick and choose your moral responsibility. It’s fine to school PBO on how to be a father and what women should do with their own bodies, but take a moral stand on sexual abuse in the Church? That’s ‘not my place’.

That, sir, makes you immoral. It makes you a cafeteria moralizer. There is nothing immoral or irreligious about wanting to be proper stewards of the environment and ‘do no harm’. Can you actually imagine Jesus saying that it was ‘moral’ to guzzle as much oil as possible in order to drive hogs on the road, to the detriment of the health of the planet?

Okay, I’m stepping off the soapbox now.

On energy, during the recent work on the Senate transportation bill, Sen. DeMint offered an amendment that he touted as cutting subsidies to energy companies. Dems response was that it only cuts ones to clean energy and left the ones to fossil fuels intact. Republicans are masters at misrepresentation.

ARBUTUS, Md. — At a town hall here on Wednesday, Mitt Romney claimed that the economic policies of former President George W. Bush and then-Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson were responsible for keeping the United States out of a full-scale depression.

“I keep hearing the president say he’s responsible for keeping the country out of a Great Depression,” Romney said in front of around 200 people at an American Legion post. “No, no, no, that was President George W. Bush and Hank Paulson.”

The crowd, which overflowed into the parking lot about an hour before the event, seemed enthusiastic about Romney’s message and applauded for his comments on less regulation and removing the “heavy hand of government.”

The attendees also laughed good-naturedly at a potentially awkward moment for Romney. While asking Romney a question, a business owner joked about the candidate’s failed business ventures — likely companies owned by Bain Capital — and told Romney, “I haven’t failed yet.” “You will,” said Rommey to laughter, before clarifiying that failure was “in the nature of the private sector.”

Yuk…Gag…..Mitt must be taking History classes from Newt.

    • March 21, 2012 at 6:09 pm

Someone needs to quickly talk to Hank Paulson . Get him to share the story about people almost “coming to blows” in a conference room in the capitol. See if he will own up to partically getting on his knees and begging Senator Obama to talk to the people who refused to support TARP on the first vote. I really wish Paulson would have the integrity to go public with that story and SHUT THESE LIARS UP!!!!!!!!!!!

Psychopathy (/saɪˈkɒpəθi/[1][2]) is a personality disorder characterized by a pervasive pattern of disregard for the rights of others and the rules of society. Psychopaths have a total lack of empathy and remorse, and have very shallow emotions. Ya know what, I gonna have to change my name to AngryBlackLady3.0, because unlike ABL, I don’t have a medical issue, I am just really angry about this right now. I’ve posted this before, but I’m posting it again, because I whenever I read something about this case, I just wanna scream and rage at people who are not aware of how unfortunately common it is to be accosted, profiled or detained just for being Black, particularly a Black male. Please read the whole thing. It is worth your while.

No Apologizes: On The Killing of Trayvon Martin And Being “Good”

In the tragic murder of Trayvon Martin, there’s no safe place. There’s no real excuse to cling to. None of the usual dismissals work or fit. It’s just bad. Real bad. And sits there and stares at you with it’s cruelty and unfairness and ugliness and says, “Take this.”

Take this load. And pick it up.
Just take it. And accept it. And choke back the lumps in your throat. As it has happened before. And it will happen again. And again you will be told to “take this.”

Take this burden and just accept it as your burden. It’s just “how it is.” You’re all statistics. Take these statistics. And black people get shot everywhere everyday by everyone. Police. Non-police. Crazy people. Bigots. Their parents. Other kids. Just take it. It’s part of your Life In America, Black People. Accept this tragedy and go through the motions of appealing to people’s decency and demanding justice and having protests and press conferences and crying and asking why and demanding answers and then eventually getting that bad dead cold thing that just sits there and says, “Take this.”

Here’s your load. Pick it up.
Pass it along to the children, so they can carry a bit of it too. Let it weigh down on their worlds. Let it rob them of their childhood and innocence. Tell them to take it, so they grow up faster and accept the unfairness in life and just give up. Be cynical and fatalistic. Be cold when it happens to the next person. Or be cold themselves when they do it to another person. And as they rob that person of what was once robbed of themselves and that person asks them why or looks for recourse or retribution or answers, they can stare back unblinking in the shadow of our common oppressors and say, “Take this load and pick it up.”…

Just to enlighten some folks, here are some of the rules of survival many Black parents give their teenaged sons:
[Jonathan Capeheart mentioned some of these in the ending segment on Rev Al’s show tonight]

Don’t run in public, lest someone find you suspicious
Don’t run in public with something in your hand, lest someone thinks you stole something
Don’t give the police a reason to stop you
If the police do stop you, don’t look them in the eye like you’re their equal, respond to them in a deferential manner and do whatever they say.

      ———————–
Living while young, Black and male in America can be hazardous to your health, even if you’re doing nothing but walking down the street.
      Yes, even in 2012.

I worry everday for my neighbors son. She’s a single mom and he’s the oldest, 18 now and she has a 4yrs old. She moved here when he was eight yrs old and he graduated from high school with a B average, got accepted to UCLA and is doing very well. He is very tall, dark, handsome, and polite. She raised a very nice young man but if you only go by appearances he dresses in the saggy pants because all the teens do. Since he’s been to college he doesn’t dress like that anymore. I pray for him that he is not killed by gangs or the police every day. He’s a good kid with a gentle soul and so polite just like Trayvon Martin.

Rev Al addressed exactly this on radio today. He is joining several parties for a demonstration tomorrow in Florida, and will be asking, rather demanding that the police chief resign; he also hopes the chief will be charged as well as the murderer, and the whole damn department investigated as well.

AMMAN (Reuters) – The U.N. Security Council, including Russia and China, threw its weight on Wednesday behind efforts by Kofi Annan to end the bloody conflict in Syria, providing a rare moment of global unity in the face of the year-long crisis.

In a statement approved by all its 15 members, the council threatened Syria with unspecified “further steps” if it failed to comply with Annan’s peace plan, which calls for a ceasefire and demands swift access for aid agencies.

Although the original statement was diluted at Russia’s demand, editing out any specific ultimatums, the fact that all world powers signed up to the proposal dealt a serious diplomatic blow to President Bashar al-Assad as he battles a popular uprising.

“To President Assad and his regime we say, along with the rest of the international community: take this path, commit to it, or face increasing pressure and isolation,” U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in Washington.

I plead guilty for not giving Bush the credit he deserves! I am terribly sorry for not realizing that President Bush was still the dominant force, three years after he left office, in saving the economy from Depression and masterminding the killing of Bin Laden . On the other hand I am quite puzzled by all the Republican leaders who blame everything on President Obama. If Bush, while he was out of office, could kill Bin Laden and save the Economy, while Obama was President, how come he couldn’t prevent all the other evils that the GOP is accusing President Obama of committing? Is it the contention of people, like Mitt Romney, that all the positive things that have been achieved in the past three years of the Obama presidency should be credited to George Bush, while all the negative things, including those he inherited, should be blamed on President Obama? Is it also the contention of people, like Romney and the teabaggers, that any one who doesn’t buy into this scenario is an anti-white racist?
