His expression is like, “man, get that camera out of my face, I’m trying to get a little rest.” The relaxed body (so fine and delicious) and the stern expression sum up much of PBO’s character and attitude; strength and steely determination to get things done cooed with a laid-back, approachable manner.

HILLARY CLINTON: IT’S TIME TO ‘SHAPE OUR DESTINIES’
Taking on extremists both abroad and at home who would marginalize women, the secretary of state called for an ‘audacious’ fight.
by Eleanor Clift (3/10/12)
——————————————————————
As secretary of State, Clinton has made the issue of girls and women worldwide a cornerstone of U.S. foreign policy. âItâs not just the right thing to do, it is a strategic imperative,â she said. She wondered aloud âwhy extremists are always focusing on womenâthe reason is a mystery to me,â but itâs the same the world over, no matter what the ideology. âThey all want to somehow control ⌠the decisions we make about our own body. Itâs hard to believe even here at home we have to stand up for womenâs rights and reject efforts to marginalize any one of us.â
It was a rare jab at the political opposition at home as Clinton stressed that America must set an example for the world. She dubbed this the âage of participation,â and applauded the power that women have to âshape our destinies in ways previous generations couldnât imagine.â
thanks a lot for this link. I was wondering how SOS was feeling about this anti-women foolishness from the GOP and when she would speak up about it without it seeming to be out of her portoflio as America’s face to the world. I am so glad that POTUS gave her an official global platform/forum to push these critcical issue
When SOS retires, I bet she does something to better the lives of woman throughout the world. The GOP gave her a gift of what to do to strenghten her legacy or PBO will appoint her to the Supreme Court.
I’m just listening to this right now. It is excellent I’ll tweet this when I’m done. I think women’s issues are going to be of major concern, women are waking up to the GOP War on Women.
Official POTUS’ video: “The Road we have Travelled” has almost 1.2 Million views by this morning. I wonder how many of those are from TODville ? Yes people, stand up and be counted – confess! I know I am responsible for more than 5 views and will keep at it.
Busted! You are forcing me to come clean. I admit that I have been playing “The Road We Have Traveled” as background music for days now. I find it exhilarating. I am crazy nuts for our amazing President Obama. I have sent the film to all of my family and friends asking them to share it with their family and friends. I want that youtube counter to overflow with more views than it can handle.
You know, that Ragin’ Cajun, James Carville said this just about right. Campaign finance needs to be addressed, right along with CItizens United. That stupid call by the Supremes makes my blood boil!
Democratic political strategist James Carville said that the ability to spend unlimited sums endows big donors with so much power that they don’t even have to use it.
“You can threaten,” he said. “The real impact of this is, let’s say you want something — there’s a bill that you really care about — you go to someone kind of on the fence, and usually you would say, ‘I’ll do a fundraiser for you.’ Now you say, ‘If you don’t vote for this, I’m going to dump a million dollars on you.'” Or, he continued, “‘If you don’t vote to give me a pollution exemption, I’m going to croak you.'”
“The potential for mischief here is pretty good,” Carville said.
That decision was democracy-destroying. It allows a govt. that is of, for, and by the billionaires. How can we get that overturned? Only a constitutional amendment?
I’ll never forget when President Obama spoke about this in one of his State of the Union speech, and I also remember one of those right wing SC judge shock his head in disagreement. It’s looking like POTUS knew what he was talking about.
Ahhhh….here comes Ezra Klein sucking at hosting again. It was quite eye opening watching Noam Scheiber author of “How Obama and his economic team fumbled the economy” play failed psychologist analyzing President Obama and coming up with BS. Even in a book about the economy, if on wants to sell copies one just bashes PBO over and over and over again. He lied about PBO. Saying PBO refused GOP help on the stimulus. PBO took GOP idea of $200B in tax cuts and they still refused to work with him. The economy is improving now yet Ezra sat there and let Noam lie and lie and lie. I never thought I’d be wishing for Chris Hayes to come back but Geez Chris would have pushed back on some of this BS. Ezra is a good writer but completely inept at hosting. Just inept.
What is infuriating is that everybody focuses on President Obama as if congress had no role to play. And I agree with Jared Bernstein that there are things that can be cone right now that the GOP is obstructing. Why aren’t they talking about GOP obstruction? Why aren’t they talking about what happened with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau? Why aren’t they talking more about the GOP presidential candidates wanting to repeal Dodd-Frank? Instead all we hear is Monday morning quarterbacking from gasbag journalists who have all the answers IN THEIR BOOKS.
Has Mitt Romney and his policies been discussed on this show AT ALL this weekend? After all he is the GOP frontrunner-the one who people will be voting for if they don’t vote for PBO. Yes the only thing I’m seeing of him in the media is how “well he’s campaigning” and nothing else. Good morning, and no, no one discusses Mitt Romney, other than to tell us what a great businessman he is. His constant lies about PBO go unquestioned, no one corrects him. This is what is will be like until the election. It is just assumed he is an expert with anything. How is it we are still at war, the middle east could blow up at any time, and no one even cares if Mitt knows anything about foreign policy, and all of the gop princes talked about as a possible VP have absolutely no knowledge of foreign policy. The msm and PLs would rather attack our POTUS.
utaustinliberal, why don’t you let Ezra know how you feel. Ask him why is it he didn’t push back at Scheiber when he was lying. Yes he is the guess, but he didn’t come up there to spread lies or died he?
Good morning everybody. Some TODers live in Pennsylvania; some have relatives; some have friends and acquaintances; and some have done call-ins to the state to get out the vote. The ACLU and other groups are assembling a lawsuit against the state to stop the draconian new anti-voter law from being implemented. They are looking for any real-life examples of a citizen who will be disenfranchised by this law by virtue of age, handicap, inability to get birth and marriage certificate proofs or any other reason. If you can locate or know of any one who fits this description please relay this information by phone at 1-717-238-ACLU (2258) or by e-mail to voterid@aclupa.org. As we delve further into this law, it becomes increasingly clear that it was purposely designed to confuse and discourage voting. The governor’s office bypassed the administrative process so there are no follow-up regs to clarify obscure points and no time for comment. The bill was deliberately created to produce uncertainly and is larded with enough landmines (in fine print) to allow any DMV or polling official a person’s right to vote. It is a blatant assault on voters and PA has NO process for citizen protest–no referendums, no recall provision. The ACLU is going to go in with proofs of harm and we need to pitch in and help them. The cities–the target of the bill–are a rich mine for potential harm. So even if you have a distant acquaintance in the state, please let them know t obe on the lookout. I got calls into every OFA office in the state to ask them to be on the alert for potential defendants as they do phone banking. Republican led states are actively working to undermine their citizens. They’re hoping that we’ll be silent and acquiesce. Or, as our governor said about women getting invasive and needless ultrasounds, “They can always close their eyes.” Well, I for one, am not about to close my eyes to this flagrant misuse of power. Please help us fight back if you can.
hey jackie i just tweeted you calling it a call to action – thanks for bringing up this important topic and the work you are doing – we can’t let these crazies win.
Great info….i would suggest that what ever steering committe is handling this organizing process reach out to the Concerned Black Ministers….here in Philly and the PA Congressional Black Caucas…..to enlist their support..folks are just not going to come to the website…they have to organized….
do you know if there will any community meetings around this issue….
prettyfoot, right now all the “organizing” is being done by local democrats. The NAACP has a lot going on as do the uniona, but there’s no central coordination. You’re right. People aren’t just going to come to the website. We have to get out there and put information in everyone’s hands. You should know that the fine print in the law says that even if you have a university or college photo ID that’s supposed to allow you to vote, you will be sent away if the ID does not have an expiration date. More than half of the colleges and universities in PA do NOT issue dated ID’s, so we need to call our local colleges and universities to alert them of this little kicker.
Good Morning TODObots! Morning Chips, tho you are away… Lots of cold rain this morning, huge snowfalls in the mountains the past week.. Spring is here, but it’s a chilly one indeed! Sorry to have missed all the fun yesterday! đ
THE GOP “JOBS ACT” IS NOT A JOBS ACT (CARL LEVIN “INVEST ACT” IS THE WAY TO GO)
Contact your senators and make your voice heard.
Background on the INVEST In America Act
Thursday, March 15, 2012
Read Sen. Levin’s Senate floor speech on the INVEST in America Act.
=================================
Legislation passed by the House that supporters say is designed to create jobs would strip away important protections and put the stability of the economy and our financial markets at risk. The INVEST in America Act, introduced by Sens. Reed, Landrieu and Levin would repair the House bills flaws. Below is background information on the INVEST in America Act and information on the building wave of concern over the provisions of the House-passed legislation.
Here is a good read from our friends over at PlanetPov
HEADLINE: A Psychiatrist’s Perspective on Obama: “His Work is Not Done. Our Need is Still Real.”
// âAs a psychiatrist I expected a huge increase in suicides in the Fall and Winter of 2008 and 2009. The hospital staff with which I am affiliated had met several times to discuss the likely impact of the economic catastrophe on mental health. We all remembered the accounts of suicides among those in the financial sector at the start of the Great Depression. What is less well known is that suicide rates across the entire working population in 1929 and 1930 were triple those of 1927 and 1928. We thought, and the literature supported our thinking, that it would be as bad or worse in contemporary AmericaâŚespecially in a culture far less religious than that one was.
It turned out not to be so. We have certainly experienced an increase in cases of clinical and situational depression, but that increase has been less than ten percent. This has been the experience across the country. Why? //
I think Steve Benen wrote about this a year or so ago. For some reason the Beltway media hangs onto his every word even when its blatantly obvious that he has no clue as to what he’s talking about. This is one where you may have to contact MTP or whatever Sunday talk show and ask them what is their obsession with this man.
They still haven’t gotten over the fact that he lost to PBO in 2008 and hope that by constantly having him on TV are elevating him to PBO’s status in their warped minds. I firmly believe that’s what it’s all about.
McCain is an old media whore who has nothing else to do (or that he wants and needs to do). He is like the booty-call woman or man, that can be called up at the last minute and will come running. Does he ever return to his family? His time is over and he is totally irrelevant.
This is what the media (and that includes MSNBC) has been trying to distract us from with their sudden intense focus on PBO this weekend. The HOT MESS that is the GOP primary. Mitt Romney had to cut his Puerto Rico trip short to rush back to Illinois – that’s never a good sign. If he were comfortably ahead of Santorum, that would not have been necessary. Furthermore, a lot of infighting, chaos, (e.g., Ron Paul supporters getting arrested last night), and general apathy among the GOP voters are mostly hidden in the media.
Morning hopefruit2,
The pundits are quick to say ‘both sides do it’ for political arguments. I think we should use it when referring to MSM. Both sides do it. No, all sides do it. Sometimes watching MSNBC is like watch faux news without the anger. CNN is basically faux light. All they do is lie, ignore facts, blame PBO, dont mention GOP, rinse, repeat.
During the 2008 primaries, I admit I was against mandates unless there were considerable regulations concerning controls on premiums to make sure that mandated insurance was affordable, and/or a robust public option that would accomplish the same thing:affordable health care. This is what the Obama administration and the decent democrats had to contend with, while the dinos kept throwing monkey wrenches and roadblocks at ACA. They did the best they could maneauvering through those snake-infested swamps. And I have come to truly embrace the concept that everyone must contribute to the system. In countries that now have the right to call themselves ‘enlightened’, this is done through universal health care and taxes. The word that Republicans have managed to demonize.
More perspective on the Trayvon Martin case. I wonder why no one is talking about the Stand Your Ground law that Jeb Bush signed into law that allowed this tragedy, giving an excuse for anyone who was “suspicious” of anyone to shoot to kill. This Zimmerman appears to be some kind of simpleton playing cops and robbers, only with a real gun. He was obsessed with his self-appointed “neighborhood watch” role, daily following people he deemed “suspicous”, calling the police 46 times in the last year. The neighbors there, by the way, black and white, had called the police to their neighborhood over 400 times in the last year. This was such a needless, horrible tragedy with all kinds of very troubling circumstances coming to a crescendo. Our lax gun laws certainly share the blame, with all kinds of irresponsible, immature people walking around with a gun tucked in their pants—-a killing waiting to happen. It’s beyond stupid. http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/03/17/2700249/shooter-of-trayvon-martin-a-habitual.html
I didn’t read in the story whether trayvon lived in that neighborhood. Did he live there or was he visiting friends or family? I read he was going to the store for a drink and candy. Such a sad, sad situation and needless/senseless killing of a young man.
His father’s girlfriend lived in the neighborhood, and they were both visiting. Father took him on the visit—-because he had been suspended from h.s. for too many tardys. Trayvon was said to walk to 7-11 at halftime of NBA game to get candy and an iced tea
George Clooney’s appearance on Fox News Sunday was very enlightening. Very informative. He is smarter than a lot of these pundits who pollute our airspace.
It seems like a number of people have kind of “tuned out” the massacres occuring in Syria.
However, it seems that the situation there will continue to be escalating.
During their Sunday afternoon (1.00 p.m. local time), 2 more car bombs went off near millitary and intelligence offices in Assad-stronghold of Aleppo. Other bomb attacks have occured in the surburbs of Damascus.
Will Russia and China live to regret their veto in the UN as the ordinary people in the region continue to join the fight and use more and more suicide bombers against the regime?
I don’t think China and Russia will regret their veto since they have their own checkered histories with brutality and such. The situation is very frustrating. And the Assad regime seems very disengaged from the horrors they are inflicting on their people. Power corrupts.
The New GOP mess is a budget battle with the President.
They did not like the Budget control act, which took care of 2 years, they want to break that law and write a new one.
One that dramatically cuts Federal programs, cuts taxes for the rich and preserves Military spending.
Harry Reid said do not even try bringing that mess over to my chamber!
Interestingly, they ate again threatening a Government shutdown, right before the election.
October surprise will fail! Seems like desperation!
G’day shipmates/TODers. It’s a beautiful day somewhere eh? Thought I’d start with a bit of humor.
RETIRED/BORED HUSBAND
After I retired, my wife insisted that I accompany her on her trips to Target.
Unfortunately, like most men, I found shopping boring and preferred to get in and get out. Equally unfortunate, my wife is like most women – she loves to browse.
Yesterday my dear wife received the following letter from the local Target:
Dear Mrs. Harris,
Over the past six months, your husband has caused quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate this behaviour and have been forced to ban both of you from the store. Our complaints against your husband, Mr. Harris, are listed below and are documented by our video surveillance cameras:
1. June 15: He took 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in other people’s carts when they weren’t looking.
2. July 2: Set all the alarm clocks in Housewares to go off at 5-minute intervals.
3. July 7: He made a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the women’s restroom.
4. July 19: Walked up to an employee and told her in an official voice, ‘Code 3 in Housewares. Get on it right away’. This caused the employee to leave her assigned station and receive a reprimand from her Supervisor that in turn resulted with a union grievance, causing management to lose time and costing the company money.
5. August 4: Went to the Service Desk and tried to put a bag of M&Ms on layaway
6. August 14: Moved a ‘CAUTION – WET FLOOR’ sign to a carpeted area.
7. August 15: Set up a tent in the camping department and told the children shoppers he’d invite them in if they would bring pillows and blankets from the bedding department to which twenty children obliged.
8. August 23: When a clerk asked if they could help him he began crying and screamed, ‘Why can’t you people just leave me alone?’ EMTs were called.
9.. September 4: Looked right into the security camera and used it as a mirror while he picked his nose.
10. September 10: While handling guns in the hunting department, he asked the clerk where the antidepressants were.
11. October 3: Darted around the Store suspiciously while loudly humming the ‘ Mission Impossible’ theme.
12. October 6: In the auto department, he practiced his ‘Madonna look’ by using different sizes of funnels on his chest.
13. October 18: Hid in a clothing rack and when people browsed through, he yelled ‘PICK ME! PICK ME!’
14. October 22: When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumed a
fetal position and screamed ‘OHNO! IT’S THOSE VOICES AGAIN!’
15. Took a box of condoms to the check out clerk and asked where the fitting room was?
And last, but not least:
16. October 23: Went into a fitting room, shut the door, waited awhile, and then yelled very loudly, ‘Hey! There’s no toilet paper in here.’
Hee Hee Heeeee! Morning, Commander! You simply MUST post this on the new thread! It is funnier than anything I’ve reading a long time! I believe it could actually be true, but it is NOT YOU, is it? đ

Last night/early this AM…book TV had David Brock and his co-author talking about the new book The Fox Effect….
I just caught part of the Q&A and it was very good…..Someone asked about MSNBC compared to Fox and Brock said that Media Matters watches them also…..
It is not yet on c-span’s video library…but when it comes up…it will be well worth the watch.

Thanks, Alice.
Hello Jackieeee….GM…

Background on the INVEST In America Act
Thursday, March 15, 2012
Read Sen. Levin’s Senate floor speech on the INVEST in America Act.
=================================

Why? //

Wow, great article. thanks hopefruit
that was interesting hopefruit – I wonder who the psychiatrist was/is? Maybe he’ll go public soon.
That picture is awesome.
http://www.thedailybanter.com/2012/03/the-most-underrated-but-huge-obama-accomplishment/ nice article by Bob Cesca reflecting on The Road Traveled and President Obama’s major accomplishment: preventing a depression. He takes Jon Stewart and PLs to task.
nice list in there too of the the condensed 13 best things PBO has done
John McCain on MTP! I don’t get it. Every week? Every fucking week???
Sunday in the media is “Republican Propaganda” Day.
So I’m actually surprised when McCain is NOT on any of those shows.
All they do is lie, ignore facts, blame PBO, dont mention GOP, rinse, repeat.
thanks for the advice, ourmanflint đ
The WH touting positives of HC Law-
http://www2.tbo.com/news/politics/2012/mar/18/obama-campaign-touting-positives-of-health-care-ac-ar-382080/
I know this was linked yesterday but it is a very important must-read:
http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2012/03/individual_mandate.html
From what I understood, he was visiting his father who lives in the complex.
His father’s girlfriend lived in the neighborhood, and they were both visiting. Father took him on the visit—-because he had been suspended from h.s. for too many tardys. Trayvon was said to walk to 7-11 at halftime of NBA game to get candy and an iced tea
Okay – thx for clarifying đ
oh my gosh, just unimaginable. i have a son and 2 daughters and i can not even begin to imagine the loss the family is going through.
George Clooney’s appearance on Fox News Sunday was very enlightening. Very informative. He is smarter than a lot of these pundits who pollute our airspace.
How’d they treat him? Was Chris Wallace doing the interviewing?
Chris Wallace did the interviewing and he was very polite and asked questions in an objective manner. No GOP style questions. I was impressed.
From what I’ve seen of him Wallace consistently ask better questions than his Sunday counterparts.
Syria, Syria, Syria:
Here is a great tool to use when talking about gas prices….

Oh, this is fanTASTic! Thanks Linda!!
That is one sexy picture of BO right there!

One of the clerks passed out.
Hee Hee Heeeee! Morning, Commander! You simply MUST post this on the new thread! It is funnier than anything I’ve reading a long time! I believe it could actually be true, but it is NOT YOU, is it? đ
Naw. I’m not clever enough. You think it would be okay to repost this, huh?
They should have nailed you on August 4th.
It wasn’t me. I don’t have enough nerve to pull off some of that stuff.
LOL!! I’m with you on that one although October 3rd maybe more my speed.
Funny
That should be a movie starring Jim Carrey.
