AWWWW, Chips. Blush. Thank you, sweetie. I got me a cupcake from da Prez! I am having an exquisite day. I went to the Casino and won enough money to pay for my meal with some left over (very fun) and had chocolate mousse cake, then came here to see all the wonderful festivities. Thank you to everyone for all your well wishes.

The whole incident just breaks hearts doesn’t it Chips. It’s all so topsy turvy with so many feelings. I sincerely hope that truth will finally prevail, justice is handed down fairly and everyone find some measure of comfort despite the horror in our midsts.

I did not want to read this, Chips because I knew it would hurt. it did, and I hate it that this still the reality for my sons and grandsons, and millions of African-American parents of sons and grandsons.

I guess that’s why coming to this site means so much; it gives me a different perspective. I know that this is a multiple-racial, multiple-cultural site. Because of that, I can hang on to a little hope for my children’s future. That ‘s the comfort I get from this site.

Just wanted you to know that. Thanks.

This pain is shared by many of us – you are not alone.

This family is not alone either. We must send up our prayers that the truth will prevail – for everyone’s sake.

As AA women, with an AA brother I understand everything you wrote. My brother when he was a teenager got “checked out” by the police while walking home, eventhough he was not doing anything, but walking home.

I still can’t read it. I can’t listen to the 911 tape. I. JUST. CAN’T. Some of ya’ll know that I have a teenage son. I just ache for the mother, and father of that child. Even from what I’ve heard, I don’t even know how his mother can form a sentence, let alone keep it together enough to ask for FBI intervention.

We have come so far, but we have so much further to go in this country. SO MUCH FURTHER!!!

I am dam tired of things like this happening to our young black boys. Zimmerman might want to claim it was self defense, but if he had done what the police told him to, that boy would still be alive. No he wanted to play detective and follow the boy. If it was a black man who shot a white kid, the black man would have been arrested. I have no confidence in the police department. Rev. Al said he was not going to let this go, he was going to get to the truth. I hope so. Because it seem our kids may not be beaten and hung anymore, but they are gun down. What ashame.

Now I just saw on my local news where two women has come forward and said that Zimmerman killing Trayson Martin was not self defense. They said they heard the boy pleading for his life, The women also said they call the police department four times and they didn’t hear anything from them. I don’t want people to give up on this. Fight till Trayon Martin’s family find out the truth. Zimmerman need to have his sorry ass in jail.

      • 116 aquagranny911
        March 17, 2012 at 11:03 pm

Because he was a self-appointed “gunslinger” wannabe cop who had an ‘in’ with the police. We really need to deal with the gun laws in this country before more of this happens.

        • 117 anniebella
          March 17, 2012 at 11:30 pm

Here’s why Zimmerman didn’t listen to the dispatcher, he said that these assholes always get away. So he was determine that black asshole wasn’t going to get away, not this time. So he kept following Trayon, and I imagine Trayon was wondering what was going on? Who was this man following him? He could have been afraid. And the way the police have handle this whole thing makes me mad.

Police Intervene, Arrest Ron Paul Backers at Missouri Caucus

    (ABC News)

Police and organizers shut down proceedings at one of Missouri’s largest caucuses today, as Ron Paul supporters feuded with local GOP leaders.

“It’s like the Hatfields and the McCoys around here,” St. Charles County’s former GOP chairman told ABC News, after police arrived on-scene with a helicopter and removed Paul backers.

HEADLINE: “Let My People Vote”: David Axelrod To Republicans On Election Engineering

// Barack Obama’s former right-hand man accused Republicans of passing laws to shut out Democrats from voting in the next presidential election. “There’s no doubt that Republican legislatures and governors across this country have made an attempt to try to win the elections in 2012 and 2011 by passing laws that are restrictive, that are meant to discourage participation, particularly by key constituencies that have voted Democratic in the past,” said David Axelrod, former White House official and current senior advisor to the Obama campaign.

“The bottom line is we’re going to have to fight this in every state,” he said, “with every set of rules through organization, through commitment on the part of the campaign but also on individuals to find out exactly what the rules are in their state.” Axelrod and fellow Obama staffer Mitch Stewart then touted GottaRegister, a website started by the Democratic National Committee that helps voters register and navigate their local voting laws.

Republicans claim that it is just a coincidence that these groups targeted by the bill happen to vote consistently for Democrats. But Axelrod didn’t mince words about Republicans’ intentions. “We’re going to thwart this cynical attempt to depress voter turnout,” he said in the video. “The difference between our party and their party is we’d be comfortable if every single American who was qualified to vote did vote. We think that’d be a great thing for this country.”//

One Voice Really Can Make A Difference…

Video of Former U.S. Marine Who Objected to TN Photo ID Restriction: ‘I Want People to Get Off Their Ass And Fight This Law’

‘They’re trying to keep us from voting…Somebody’s gotta make a stand…I took an oath to defend all American rights.’ PLUS: Tim Thompson testifies in TN Legislative Subcommitee as repeal of Photo ID law approved…

“I’m shaken up. I mean, I’ve never done anything like this before,” 55-year old former U.S. Marine Tim Thompson said after being turned away from the polling place for refusing to show a Photo ID when attempting to vote on Super Tuesday under a new Tennessee restriction on voting rights passed by Republican lawmakers. Last week, we told you about Thompson and his protest at the same Nashville polling place where he’d voted for years without incident. It was the first state election in TN in which state-issued Photo ID was required in exchange for the right to vote at a polling place.

Though Thompson presented his voter registration card as sent to him by the state, it was not enough under the new law to allow him to vote on a normal ballot. “I’ve used this for 37 years,” the former Lance Corporal is seen on video telling the precinct supervisor at the poll. “This was good enough for my father. This was good enough for my grandfather, and I refuse to show you a picture ID,” he said…[snip]

    * * *
But there is now more to the inspiring story, underscoring again how one person standing up for their rights really can make a difference…

On Wednesday, a Subcommittee in the TN Legislature held a hearing on a bill that would repeal the discriminatory law. Thompson was asked to testify at the hearing before four Republicans, three Democrats and one independent (a fifth Republican was not present that day).

After his testimony, the State and Local Government Subcommittee voted in favor of repealing the disenfranchising Photo ID bill! All three Democrats, the Independent and one of the Republicans joined together to vote for repeal. The bill will now move to the full Committee and then, if successful, to the General Assembly for a final vote on passage. It still faces very long odds as the fight is nowhere near finished, according to Thompson — who we interviewed last night on the Mike Malloy Show — but this was a tremendous victory.

You can read more about the hearing at the Knoxville News Sentinel… [see more in the article]

Keep in mind that was just a subcommittee that voted to repeal the Voter ID law. But it’s a step in the right direction.

can you please forward this to people who have a TV show and have been complaining about these new photo id laws : Rev Al, Racheal, Lawrence, Roland Martin etc. I think it is very important to show disinterested Americans that this could happen to anyone of them and not just to poor, elderly and racial minority voters
