    OMFG.. TEST!

  11. March 15, 2012 at 7:52 pm

    Alright, I can’t wait. I’m pumped.

I just finished watching Highlander, and I’m remembering myself as a young teen girl who had just discovered those trashy historical romance novels with the women with the heavy bosoms and the Fabio dudes with the long flowing locks and the shirt that just never seemed to be buttoned past the navel… and I’m thinking, “ooh, wonder if they have this on Netflix or I need to find this series Amazon!”

I was a serious Highlander fan and honestly if they made another today, I’d probably pay to go see it 9x out of 10.

Is that sad…whatever…”THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!!”

ETA: Oh yeah Freakin’ Sean “James Bond” Connery was in it too, so it had to be cool and badass right…LOL!

ETA #2: Hello the theme song from freakin’ Queen (Highlander Soundtrack)- Princes’ Of The Universe

    • March 15, 2012 at 8:00 pm

My problem with “Highlander” is that a Frenchman played a Scot, and a Scot played a Spaniard. And don’t get me started on the sequels which didn’t match at all with the movies that went before or after them. However, I was a big fan of the “Highlander” tv series.

  12. March 15, 2012 at 7:56 pm

Can’t wait to see this movie. It better not make me cry.

            March 15, 2012 at 8:38 pm

I didn’t see it that way. This was not designed as a stump speech but as a documentary type analysis of what the administration has accomplished since the election. I also believe that this won’t be the last of such movies. As I can already tell, it left many people wanting more. Again, I think that was the intention. There will probably be one or two more leading up to the election, including one a day or two before election day.

            • March 15, 2012 at 8:48 pm

I know I wanted it to go on longer. I thought that was brilliant – I was cheering and applauding all by myself here – without an ounce of shame. That was breathtaking – and he’s done a lot of this work on his own. Interesting that the same Dems who are silent in the pundit world to defend this President, were silent in this movie. I think the only one who deserved to be on here was Nancy Pelosi. The rest seem to have noodles for spines.

      March 15, 2012 at 8:22 pm

I’m really sorry to hear that UT. I agree that they should have anticipated that many people were going to be watching and made the necessary technical adjustments. I think a lot more people are watching than actually signed up through the OFA – that might have thrown them off. But still – they should have anticipated this 😦

      • March 15, 2012 at 8:45 pm

I’m glad the link worked for most people than not. I don’t wanna see the meme that the live stream was a bust. Cause you know that’s how the media would cover it. Not that there was alot of people trying to watch it so the servers maybe couldn’t keep up.

Ya’ll know the media will go with the negative rather than the positive.

    • March 15, 2012 at 8:28 pm

I hope they upload the video quickly because the link they sent totally blew and sucked. It kept starting and stopping. Then the video would play with no sound. Then there’d be sound and no video. Ugh. So disappointed and mad. They should have anticipated the deluge.

    • March 15, 2012 at 9:05 pm

Their site went from level 8 site traffic, according to Firefox, to 10, just from the time I logged before 8:00 pm to when I tried to reboot the video around 8:20 to 8:25.

Level 8 officially means a traffic of 1 to 5 million daily visits, and level 10 means a traffic count above 100 million daily visits. But note… once you hit stage 10, there’s no cap on how many people might be dropping by.

That suggests they may have planned for immensely high traffic, and still been overwhelmed.

*Over* 100 hundred million visitors — all arriving with the same window of a few minutes — could overwhelm almost any private servers short of Google’s.

You *can* have a ridiculously high traffic rating without that much visible traffic — my site just went to a 10 and hardly anyone visits my front page (unless they’re using anonymity software). I kind of assume someone with a supercomputer has just been “pinging” my sub-pages every few seconds for the last several days just in case I happen to dump some more inventions into public domain. Alternatively, I once got a lot of comments in an Far Eastern language, so maybe there’s a bunch of Chinese, Japanese and/or Korean Web surfers dropping by for no particular reason.

  74. March 15, 2012 at 8:28 pm

I tuned in through the link in my email………..it started a couple minutes late. It never stalled, never did any buffering……so I’m not sure that it was a huge problem all over the country. It was a nice reminder of how things were.

    Voter ID question. Good!

    • March 15, 2012 at 8:34 pm

Yes…voting in Australia is mandatory by all citizens and permanent residents. What a difference that would make if it was the same everywhere.

      • 128 EDP4BHO
        March 15, 2012 at 8:41 pm

I totally agree. Many would call it a dictatorship, but I believe that to hold that voter’s registration card, one should honor the right so long fought for, and use it, or relinquish it. Maybe we’d have better campaign politics. One can only imagine.

        • March 15, 2012 at 8:52 pm

Yes, like they call President Obama’s policies ‘socialism’…I don’t think when people think of Australia they think of it as a country with a dictator. We also don’t have a legislative body that rules on anything to do with democracy or governing. IF there is no clear majority party then you negotiate and compromise between parties, independents to rule as a minority government. The voters chose their government to be like this, and while not perfect, I think we do ok as a nation.

  81. March 15, 2012 at 8:33 pm

Everyone, I encourage you to read this about Mitt Romney’s stupid affirmation that the U.S. Should be run like Mississippi.

[Editor’s Note] A Romney Runs Through Us

    by Donna Ladd, Editor-in-Chief
    March 14, 2012

Campaigning in Mississippi last week, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney set off a mini-firestorm in our offices. Sometime between joking about grits and forking up some hay, down-south style, Romney uttered words that made us nearly sputter in response: “If the federal government were run more like here in Mississippi, the whole country would be a lot better off.” Say what, Gov. Romney?!

See, we JFP folks cover the state government, and we watch it very closely up here in the capital city. How can we say this nicely? It’s a bona fide mess. We were so astounded that four of our staffers launched a round of Twitter satire using hashtag #runitlikeMississippi to make the point that this state is no model for running anything, much less the federal government (here are our favorites).

NOW, don’t just read the article, scroll down to read the comments as well. There is one that is typical white Republican feeling sorry for his poor white butt diatribe……

My point which will be belittled and insulted is this. I am a white man who has lived in Mississippi my entire life. Not once have I ever thought about or acted in a way that was designed to hurt other peoples lives or chances in life. To you, I am evil simply because I am white and I worked hard to start a business with no help from anyone. Maybe it isn’t all our fault Donna, maybe a little personal responsibility and pride in who you are would change everything about this state overnight. You’ve been beating that racism horse for years.

Then, Ms. Ladd smacks it down like this…….

I am a white man who has lived in Mississippi my entire life. Not once have I ever thought about or acted in a way that was designed to hurt other peoples lives or chances in life.

Actually, you just did. And you do every single time you use the word “entitlement” for a euphemism for black people you think want your money.

But I am so sick of being told that because I am white I am responsible for past crimes and present problems.

Who said YOU personally are responsible for anything? I know plenty of white men who have the brains and compassion to know that white supremacy has made things bad for all of us, regardless of race, but who know they themselves didn’t go on a night ride or slap a child away from a water fountain. Why not try studying and understanding the history rather than sound like a naive white man going around spouting that poor people just feel entitled? You’re controlling how you sound here, and it’s not pretty. Don’t blame me for it.

Just read it, you’ll be glad you did.

Saw the very beginning on iPad…lots of buffeting issues. Got home and got it on my laptop and worked great. Couldn’t see it downtown (projector broken) so glad I got home in time!

I also have Ed on. he just interviewed a teacher from OH. They have 10 teachers in the state leaving the classroom and running for the state house. Isn’t that awesome? she said they have a saying: 10 teachers going to the statehouse.

I’m extremely disappointed. I looked forward to this all day, and nothing, a big fat zero. Too upset, especially after hearing the remarks from people who have seen it.

    Can you get it, Chips?

It was sketchy for me, and also the screen was dark. I’m sorry so many were dissappointed, but happy that many had no problems. Me I feel like I know this story. I’m hoping folks see it who need the reminder of why we need to vote this man in office again. Tech problems will happen, but maybe it’s youtube, do not know what happened this time. Honestly I like to think the viewership was off the charts. We’ll all have plenty of opportunities to watch this many times! I’d love to see another of those 30 min TV movies like in 2008.

Catch the folks without a computer.

If a Republican watches the entire video and they currently do not support the President, I am sure they will change their views about him. This video was emotional, fact-based, and truthful. I will sincerely miss the President in 2016 and beyond.

    • March 15, 2012 at 8:53 pm

Do you think any Republicans will be shamed seeing their ranting tea bagging ways on the big screen, talking about socialism (which they probably know nothing about)? And I wanted to throw something at my screen when I saw the three stooges (Boehner, Cantor and Turtle) strutting like peacocks.

So great that there’s a website for confirming requirements for voting: http://www.gottaregister.com

Here’s an excerpt from the page for Georgia:

Here’s what you need to know about registering in Georgia
•You need to be a United States citizen.
•You need to be a legal resident of Georgia, and the county or municipality in which you’d like to vote.
•You need to be at least 17-and-a-half years old (and you may vote if you are at least 18).
•If you’ve been convicted of a felony involving moral turpitude, you may not vote until you’ve completed your sentence, including probation or parole.
•If you’ve been judicially ruled to be mentally incompetent, you may not vote until the disability status has been removed.
•If you’re a first-time voter who registers by mail, you’re required to submit proof of identification either at the time of registration or when you vote. You can include a copy of your identification with your registration form today! Acceptable forms of ID include: a current utility bill, bank statement, valid photo ID, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows your name and address.

How about that “moral turpitude” statement? Are we in the 17th century or what?

streaming on the internet can be really iffy – probably not a lot team obama could do about it – depends on your regional network providers which you may not even know (as opposed to your ISP like Time Warner, etc.)

when I had problems earlier, I opened another browser window and was then able to get a good stream

      March 15, 2012 at 8:44 pm

You are right CindyH. Livestreaming depends on a lot of things including the quality of your internet access from your provider, your modem, and the speed of your wireless router (for those with wi fi).

I had no trouble, but I did reload the page just before the event started.

On the PBS News Hour tonight they had a segment on campaign usage of social media. Of course, they only presented the Obama experience because none of the Republican candidates are using it very effectively. Two people, one a woman who was very positive and seemed very excited about what the Obama campaign is doing. The other was Howard Kurtz, a very big disappointment. With only having seen the trailer, he bluntly declared this to be “pure propaganda.” Isn’t propaganda pushing untruths? Nothing untrue in the video–and didn’t have time for all the positives, so why talk about negatives.

Howard Kurtz and Mark Halperin are two peas in pod and epitomize the shallowness of TV political discourse. I was disappointed that PBS had him on. Sometimes I think PBS feels they have to compete somewhat with cable new.

    • March 15, 2012 at 8:53 pm

They always do that standard 2 sides BS. No in depth probing of the facts, just two opinions. PBS is better than network but they still do it, too. It just infuriates me what has become of journalism and broadcast media.

      March 15, 2012 at 9:31 pm

Yeah, and the reason they had to do this movie was because of the headlines that did little to inform the people of all that this president has done. They had to have a vehicle from of all of the BS framing from the BS MSM. We have to listen to the MSM negative propaganda nonstop. I don’t blame team Obama for wanting to get the facts out there without the beltway “wisdom” to interpret…Howie can kiss my grits…

I feel so comforted….that is not blemish on the head of this great President, there may be differing opinions on the direction he has taken, but no one can say or prove beyond a shadow of doubt that he is ruthless, arrogant, mean spirited, uncaring, dishonest. I just know, the masses have to see ALL of the good and respond accordingly…I pray :O)

How many of you cried like I did?

  105. March 15, 2012 at 9:53 pm

    Dear America,

How awesome and revealing is this documentary! I cannot vote in your election come November 06, 2012, but I can, I have been and I will continue to pray every day to Almighty God that you re-elect President Obama and that you do it in a landslide victory to show your appreciation for what he has accomplished in his first term in office. May God grant you the wisdom and courage to make the right decision – four more years for Obama & Biden.

After viewing this film, all I can say is: Thank God the majority of Americans were wise enough to elect this incredible man president. At 66, I am so proud to have been part of the millions who voted for President Obama. The haters can go on with their hatred, but in the end the Truth about President Obama will triumph. I am a grown man, but remembering the dire situation we were in when this man was elected, and to see how far we’ve come, made me shade a few tears–mainly tears of joy and deep appreciation.

Thank you Chipsticks, and thank you to all the beautiful people who comment here, for keeping the Faith. Now let’s join the indomitable Bobfr and “PRESS ON!” We’ve got work to do to make sure President Obama is re-elected! I’ve promised myself that I will not be distracted or discouraged by the foolishness from the MSM, or the vile hate from the right wingers.

Thank you so much, Chips, for posting the video movie. I was unable to see it last night so appreciate your posting of it. I plan to not delete this post so I can watch it more than once. I am in tears right now. I am also proud I am a donator to OFA. Also glad I was in the first million supporters way back when.

I used to be on the OFA blog each day but found first BWD which was not invaded by haters as OFA was so went there then here to TOD. I tried to get back on to see the OFA blog the other day, but didn’t seem to find where everyone was commenting. It seemed that when the site was changing from Organizing for America back to Obama for America that it got harder to get into the site. I do not have all of the latest bells and whistles on my computer so that could have been part of the problem. I used to have an individual entry blog there but think it must be reorganized without it now. I kept my original name from back when it was Obama for America before the election.

I am more than happy to be here without the drama and hate from the invaders (Trolls) I am usually reading way behind the postings. I had gotten on and posted right away before reading the posts to see what had been said for awhile but you find out you just reitterated what was already said if you don’t read it first. Now I am mainly reading behind the curve and adding posts to what has been said.

I find this a place where I can keep up on being current in the news and know facts to use to try to convince those around me to be supportive of this President thanks to you and the blog posters. My brothers and Mom do not share my political ideology so I NEED the support I get here as it gets so discouraging to hear their viewpoints and realize they are so narrow minded I will never make inroads with them.
