Good news from Rueters, as Obama’s approval now up to 50%.

    • 109 Obama Grandmama
      March 13, 2012 at 10:50 pm

It seems to me that Romney looks normal on top and weird with his jeans as if the jeans are what makes him average. It seems to me that he is wearing the same pair of jeans as they are rumpled and wrinkled but the shirts seem pressed. It shows up especially when he wears the jeans with a suit jacket. I liken it to his flip flop personality of trying to be comfortable and casual at the same time as being presidential and more formal.

Slightly off topic, but kind of related – loved this video from last year or so. It just shows the difference between Romney talking sports and President Obama intelligently and effortly talking sports. And I liked it because the President just got to talk about something he cares about, with a respectful interviewer. And when President Obama talks about the team owner he knew, it doesn’t come off as sounding elitist, like Romney. He’s brilliant, as usual.

A video posted to the YouTube account of Rep. Peter King (R-NY) has sparked an investigation by the U.S. Marshals Service into why a videographer accompanying the New York Republican was allowed to film inside private residences against a federal policy.

Shortly after noon on Tuesday, a tweet from Kingโ€™s account linked to an eight minute video of a ride-along with a โ€œfugitive task forceโ€ including U.S. marshals on Monday. It showed King, the chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, joining police as they broke down doors and arrested a suspected fugitive. The video carried the logo of the โ€œManhuntersโ€ reality TV show and featured one of its stars, marshals commander Lenny DePaul.

After TPM made inquiries about the video with Kingโ€™s office, it was marked โ€œprivateโ€ and no longer available to the public on YouTube. Later, the video was removed from YouTube entirely.

    • March 13, 2012 at 8:21 pm

Well, Kay, these teams are playing for the right to be in the main tournament. So, they’re not exactly best of the best. I really don’t understand why the NCAA felt it necessary to expand the field from 64 to 68. More money, I guess, but it dilutes the competition.

      • 162 collegekay
        March 13, 2012 at 8:26 pm

really? so this isn’t the actual tournament? I don’t follow NCAA that close. I’m an NBA fan mostly.

        • March 13, 2012 at 8:29 pm

Well, it *is* the tournament, but it *isn’t*. It used to be that the NCAA would pick 64 teams and then the tourney would start. Then they expanded it to 65 teams, and the 65th and 64th teams would play to see who could stay in the big show. Now it’s 68 teams, so we have today’s games. The real tournament starts Thursday. Today’s games are to see who gets to stay on into the big show. It’s quite lame.

Regarding polls…..Reuters is probably as close to right as possible. I mentioned this on the previous post….but at the very end. From what I remember from four years ago, the polls the Obama campaign accepted were their own. Theirs were accurate to a % of a point. That is why they knew to ready the big celebration in Chicago, not to hold back. The only people who dwell on the others are the “pundits.” Axelrod, Messina and Plouffe know what’s what.

    • March 13, 2012 at 8:39 pm

  58. March 13, 2012 at 8:54 pm

Deaniac with a brilliant piece on how CU is going to bite the right wing on their asses. A tidbit here:

Organized workers see the President as a major asset and recognize the stakes in 2012, and are ready to spend $400 million in this year’s federal, state and local elections. But that won’t be all. The Citizens United ruling from the US Supreme Court – while an astoundingly bad decision – left this saving grace for our democracy: it freed up unions to organize ground campaigns to talk to non-union voters and not just their members, something labor was not able to do prior to Citizens United. And after victories in Wisconsin and Ohio, labor is strong and ready to put nearly half a million footsoldiers to knock on doors.

The RW has money. But so do the unions, AND they have foot soldiers.

Read the article, Bob. He’s a freaking moron.Proof!

One on one, he detailed his plan to lower gas prices.

“We’re going to start drilling again in the gulf, we’re going to drill in the outer continental shelf, we’re going to drill in North Dakota, Oklahoma and Texas. That communicates to the world that there will be more supply coming from the U.S. And that affects the price of gasoline,” said Romney.

As for ways to reduce debt, he suggests a few cuts.

“The test is pretty simple. Is the program so critical, it’s worth borrowing money from china to pay for it? And on that basis of course you get rid of Obamacare, that’s the easy one. Planned Parenthood, we’re going to get rid of that. The subsidy for Amtrack, I’d eliminate that. The National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities,” he said.

df, I think we both risk insulting morons by comparing them to @MittRomney ๐Ÿ™‚

I am personally aware of the scale of effort in North Dakota and it is perhaps the most unprecedented drilling effort, ever, anywhere on the planet – and one of the most technologically sophisticated ever done because of the nature of the horizontal drilling required. All that effort has been underway since President Obama took office.

          But, I digress … let’s just leave @MittRomney proclaiming he’d kill Planned Parenthood ๐Ÿ™‚

    • March 13, 2012 at 9:42 pm

So, it’s ok to borrow money from China to give tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires, but supporting women’s health, transportation projects, art programs for children – that’s a real waste of time and money. I hope voters aren’t stupid and they start paying attention.

      • March 14, 2012 at 12:25 am

Isn’t that what Bain Capital did to the companies it ruined? Made them borrow money to pay dividends to Bain’s investors? Replace value with debt, then make it go bankrupt.

Mitt Romney’s lack of integrity is really breathtaking. His pathological lying is a serious character flaw. The fact that Steve Benen can write a weekly blog post documenting Romney’s dishonesty should disqualify him. And of course, that’s on top of flip flopping on every issue. I really don’t like Mitt Romney. There is something “creepy” about how easily he lies, distorts and makes stuff up.

  62. March 13, 2012 at 9:07 pm

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is warning House Republicans theyโ€™ll be setting themselves up for another tea party-inspired government shutdown fight, unless GOP leaders buck their conservative rank and file and hew to the terms of last summerโ€™s hard-fought debt-limit deal.

House Republicans are prepared to introduce their budget resolution next Tuesday, and some signs suggest theyโ€™ll call for cutting federal programs below the levels both parties agreed to in last Augustโ€™s debt-limit fight. On Tuesday Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid laid down the Democratsโ€™ marker in no uncertain terms: Dream on, weโ€™ll never let you buck the deal.

โ€œThis wasnโ€™t a handshake, it was a law we passed,โ€ Reid told reporters on Tuesday at a weekly Capitol briefing. โ€œAnd now, the Republican right wing in the House is trying to change the agreement we made as a matter of law. I guess they love government shutdowns, or at least the threat of them โ€ฆ If they renege on the law, the agreement, theyโ€™ll be forcing yet another government shutdown and a fight with the American people. Thatโ€™s ridiculous.โ€

I don’t know what’s worse viewing, having flipped on CNN. Is it hearing Ari Fleitscher’s voice talking about anything, or seeing inmates toting ballots in Alabama. Even though I heard the latter are only in for misdemeanors and they are there on a work detail, this chain-gang mentality’s being broadcast around the world via CNN … I just don’t know what to think.

I’m a very spiritually PRIVATE person. I’m not a church goer. I cannot understand the hate these people spew, and why I haven’t heard Christian Church goers denouncing these HATEBAGS.

The only public person who does that is Barack Obama and for his expressions and acts of Christian love he is routinely vilified.

    HATE that Obama Socialism!! http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505123_162-57396603/nasdaq-3000-12-years-later/

(CBS/AP) It’s time for your close-up, NASDAQ. Just two weeks after the Dow reclaimed 13,000, the NASDAQ finally closed above 3,000 (3,039.88, to be exact) for the first time since Dec. 11, 2000.

Of course then the tech-heavy index was on its way down from its all-time high of 5048.62 on March 10, 2000, almost exactly 12 years ago. The first time the index crossed the 3,000 threshold was November 1999 and today’s market feels about a million miles removed from those halcyon days. Funny how two market crashes can remake the landscape, huh?

Stocks overall closed with their biggest gains this year. They rallied from the opening bell after the government said February retail sales gains were the strongest since September. JPMorgan Chase gave the rally extra juice by announcing it would raise its stock dividend.

Preliminary results show the Dow Jones industrial average closing up 218 points at 13,177. That’s the highest close since the last day of 2007.

Of course demanding money. And? They always came with postage-paid return envelopes. So I ALWAYS wrote some choice words on the picture, folded and folded it into a small chunk, stuffed it into the return envelope and mailed it back! THEY PAY FOR THAT RETURN MAIL!!!!! Genius. OFA is using the WaPo poll to fundraise.

Mitt Romney won’t win the Republican nomination today. Neither will Rick Santorum.

But here’s a fact: According to the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll, if the general election were held today, we would lose to Mitt Romney.

Let me say that again: According to this poll, if the general election were today, we would lose.

Now, many other polls put the President on top, but all point to the same reality: We’re looking at a race that will be tighter than you think. And the other side has groups ready to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to tear down President Obama.

It may be fun to point and laugh at the spectacle on the other side, but we have a massive amount of work to do and a dwindling amount of time to get it done.

We’ve got to step this up now.
