It’s funny, the media usually loves quoting Gallup polls ….. hmm, not so much today:

President Barack Obama’s job approval rating rose to 49% in the three-day period from Friday through Sunday …. the highest measured since early February, and before that the highest since June 2011.

….Obama’s job approval rating was at 43% as last week began. His rating improved to 48% by mid-week before rising to 49% over the weekend, suggesting that he was on the upswing even before Friday’s jobs report.

…. Obama’s 45% approval rating among men last week is up from 41% the previous week and is the highest recorded since July of last year. Obama’s job rating among women last week was 51%, up two percentage points from the week of Feb. 27 through March 4.

President Obama appears to have benefited from Americans’ significantly improved view of the national economy, including the positive jobs report released on Friday….

Nick Anderson

Greg Sargent: Think Progress gets its hands on an internal memo from Premiere Radio Networks that lists nearly 100 national companies that have asked that their advertisements not be played on the Rush Limbaugh show – companies that have not been publicly named until now. Think Progress claims that brings the total of sponsors who have pulled out in the wake of the “slut” controversy to 141 – far more than previously thought.

…. indeed the memo does say this of those advertisers: “They’ve specifically asked that you schedule their commercials in dayparts or programs free of content you know are deemed to be offensive or controversial (for example, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Tom Leykis, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Hannity). Those are defined as environments likely to stir negative sentiment from a very small percentage of the listening public.”

Dudette, I would love to have seen and listened to what Mrs. Janet Bell had to say. Her husband is my hero! His writings have been a major source of inspiration to me. I hope all of you sophisticated techies will be able to post her interview at TOD for some of us who have no cable t.v. If that’s not possible, I would love to read your take of what she said. In any case, I thank you for the heads-up.

Death penalty possible in Afghan shootings, Panetta says

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said the death penalty is possible in the Afghan shootings, the Associated Press reported. Panetta made the remarks to reporters traveling with him to Kyrgyzstan.

From the AP: “In his first public remarks on the incident, Panetta said Monday the shootings must not derail the military mission in Afghanistan, and pressure to do so from political leaders in Kabul and Washington must not alter that course. He said the U.S. seems to get confronted every other day with challenges that test U.S. leadership and its commitment to the mission. Panetta shed little light on what may have triggered the weekend massacre, but said officials will use the military justice system, and that capital punishment is possible.”

    • March 12, 2012 at 8:50 pm

Of course, this would drive the RW nuts. They may be all for the death penalty, but in this case they would howl in rage. After all, the victims were brown and Muslim, so their lives don’t count. Just so you know, I am totally against the death penalty under any circumstances, including this one.

I will say, if the soldier was a Muslim soldier and black and killed 16 other US servicemen, then the death penalty would be fine with them.

    • March 12, 2012 at 8:49 pm

My pleasure Hopefruit. I laughed when I saw how little Gallup was being reported today – a week ago I asked a right wing tool on Twitter, Toby Harnden, why he only mentioned Gallup in a PBO-bashing article and ignored all the other polls that had his approval figures much higher. He said it was because Gallup was the most respected polling company. But it looks like they’re only ‘respected’ – and reported – when they have PBO’s figures down (which they probably will again tomorrow, knowing Gallup).

Sent to a group of people to please sign. Tweeted also. I have been praying for many, many years for RL to be brought down. My best friend and I have been prayer warriors for the last 3 1/2 years for God to remove RL from the air waves, and we are not going to stop until we see it happen. I am trusting in Ps. 37 all the way.

I know this may sound strange to some, and please know that I do not want to offend anyone of my TOD family members or disrespect Chips’ beautiful site in anyway, but I do believe in a Higher Power within our space that is just, fair, loving, forgiving, but does not take kindly to proud, vile actions, and hatred toward keeping people constantly against each other and trying to destroy the character of good people. And I believe that this Higher Power does not look kindly upon those who oppress others in any way or form. “Fret not thyself because of evil doers, neither be they envious of the workers of iniquity, for they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither like the green grass .”

I fret everyday because of what I see and hear, and it hurts so much, that my tear ducts are almost dry. Really. And I know that is one of the reasons why I bring on such painful attacks ,because I hurt when others are suffering because of people like RL. I just sit and cry, and cry for long periods of time and rock myself to a peaceful state because he causes through his words so much evil and vile space within his core, to spread into the goodness of those who are trying to live and do good and decent deeds, and I hate to see so much hate.

TOD family please pray for me and with me. I do believe that the time will come, and this evil will be no more. I ask each of you to forgive me if I have offended anyone, but I felt in my spirit after looking at the numbers of the petition and the military family members signing,, and I had to share with you all. My heart is so heavy, but yet I do have peace that we will see this evil broken down. I will be persistent in my prayers until I leave this earth, I promise that. This is what my core is made of. I do not hate, but I do believe in something more powerful than myself. I pray for my enemies. Goodnight TOD family. ((((((((Hugs and prayers for my spirit also))))))))))))HZ

Sorry if this has already been covered, but we need to be aware of attacks on the President — especially the ones coming out of Congress!
    These people are just disgusting!!
    ———————————-

GOP Rep. introduces bill to trigger Obama’s impeachment
    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/03/12/gop-rep-introduces-bill-to-trigger-obamas-impeachment/

In a House Resolution introduced last week, Rep. Walter B. Jones (R-NC) put forward use of the military by the executive branch without explicit authorization from Congress as an impeachable offense: one which some conservatives believe President Barack Obama has already committed.

The bill’s author, Rep. Jones, was once a Democrat who switched parties before seeking congressional office in the 90s. He endorsed former Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) for president in 2008, and has been one of the Republican Party’s loudest critics of the presidency’s warmaking powers.

“When you talk about war, political parties don’t matter,” he told The New York Times last year.

While not directly calling for impeachment, the bill would declare “that it is the sense of Congress that, except in response to an actual or imminent attack against the territory of the United States, the use of offensive military force by a president without prior and clear authorization of an act of Congress violates Congress’s exclusive power to declare war… and therefore constitutes an impeachable high crime and misdemeanor under Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution.”

In other words, the bill would, in effect, serve as a trigger mechanism for impeachment proceedings… (more in the article)

    • 77 anniebella
      March 12, 2012 at 9:54 pm

Walter B. Jones Jr. dad was a long time Democrat, and when his dad passed away he thought he would take over, but he lost, then he became a Republican and that’s what you have now. here isn’t anything these right wing haters won’t do.

  20. 78 desertflower

Could THIS have something to do with those idiot polls?

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/post/the-morning-plum-how-rising-gas-prices-put-obama-at-risk/2012/03/12/gIQAjwAA7R_blog.html

And yet the poll also finds that public optimisim about the economy is rising. A 49 percent plurality say they’re optimistic about the state of the economy, up from 44-52 at the end of last year; two-thirds, 66 percent, are optimistic about their own families’ financial situation. The public is evenly split, 49-49, on whether their personal experiences indicate the economy is recovering — up significantly since January.

Do gas prices explain the disparity? Eighty-nine percent say they’re concerned about them; 63 pecent say gas prices have caused them financial hardship. Respondents say by 50-45 that there’s something the Obama administration can do to reduce gas prices. Obama’s approval on the issue is at an abysmal 26-65.

In all these findings you see two major GOP attack lines converging. By relentlessly blaming Obama for the financial hardships rising gas prices are imposing on swing voters, Republicans are trying to make them less willing to credit Obama for the recovery, perhaps leaving them more receptive to the other GOP argument — that the economy is only improving in spite of Obama’s policies, and not because of them.

REPUBLICANS ARE TRYING TO MAKE THEM LESS WILLING TO CREDIT OBAMA FOR THE RECOVERY…….I cry BULLSHIT!

    • 79 anniebella
      March 12, 2012 at 10:00 pm

How about Americans using some dam common sense, if they have any? They Know exactly why the gas prices is going up, but yet they want to blame President Obama. How about getting out of those big dam trucks, Suvs, cars, people drive which uses lots of gas.

      • 80 itgurl_29
        March 12, 2012 at 10:17 pm

Exactly. How about taking some personal responsibility. If you and your spouse own two freakin’ gas guzzlers, maybe you ought to think abut trading one of those babies in for a Volt. But no, dirty liberals drive the Volt so they’d rather just bitch and complain about gas prices.

If you ask me, I think gas should be as expensive as it is in Europe. Maybe then people would get out of their cars and realize the importance of funding mass transportation. And maybe then people would realize you don’t have to drive to the damn corner store. You can WALK!

Now this is a pretty creative way to get people to think about preserving endangered animal species!
    Kudos to this young lady!
    ————–
Conservationist Gabby Wild teams up with Project Runway designers to save endangered species

An entrepreneurial animal activist has recruited designers from the TV series Project Runway for a campaign to raise awareness and save 12 endangered species from extinction.

“If one does not know about an animal’s existence, one cannot save it from extinction,” Cornell University veterinary student and activist Gabby Wild told Raw Story.

While animal rights groups like PETA have been highly critical of the fashion industry, Gabby hopes to use eco-friendly outfits to engage the public about animal conservation. Her “12 in 12 for 12” campaign aims to highlight 12 different endangered animals for 12 months through original outfits created by up-and-coming fashion designers, including eight Project Runway contestants.

The outfit for April, for instance, was designed by Kristin Haskins Simms from Project Runway using organic cotton, waterproof stretch lycra, metallic mesh and recycled brass buttons. It represents the Ganges River Dolphin…

Speaking of animal conservation—–just saw ghastly photos on tmz of Donald Trump’s sons posing with their kills of exotic animals in Africa. One smug son was lying against his freshly killed water buck (water buffalo?) and in another holding an elephant tail after killing an elephant, bloody knife in one hand. Also killed a civet cat, crocodile etc. I will never understand killing as a fun hobby. I can’t figure out why people can’t come up with something more worthwhile to do with their time and, in this case, big money. It’s so disgusting to me. I always want to ask, “How teeny is your weenie?”

      • March 12, 2012 at 10:23 pm

So totally sick! I thought elephant hunting was prohibited in most of Africa but I suppose if you have money that doesn’t stop you. Killing a water buffalo isn’t that hard, neither are civet cats or crocs. Disgusting mutant slime suckers, “How teeny is your weenie?” INDEED!

    ——————————-
During a meeting with constituents, Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL) openly wondered whether the birth certificate produced by President Barack Obama was real or a forgery.

“All I can tell you is that the general consensus is that he has produced a birth certificate,” he said, according to Think Progress. “The question is, is it legitimate? That’s where we stand now. I’ve seen a copy of it on television. But you know the Governor of Hawaii couldn’t get what he felt was an original of the birth certificate. He tried to do it and gave up on it.”

“So I think what Obama’s showing is a facsimile, but I think that debate probably is not enough, shall we say, just to impeach him,” Stearns continued. “We’re going to have an election in five or six months so we can change the course of history by electing someone other than Obama. That’s what elections are all about. If we started impeachment this time of year, very difficult in terms of time and strength.”

    • March 13, 2012 at 7:46 am

I wish someone would ask this Cliff Stearns if he’s a “certified” moron or if he’s just a “facsimile” of one. What hateful and desperate people these Republican loonies are.

    Heads up!

    From Raw Story…

U.S. to publish bank stress-tests Thursday
WASHINGTON — The US Federal Reserve announced Monday it will publish results of its stress tests for the country’s largest banks on Thursday, aimed at seeing if they are fit to survive another massive recession.

The test results will cover 19 large bank holding companies, examining how they would fare if the country experienced a recession marked by a 50 percent drop in stock prices, a 21 percent fall in housing prices, and joblessness soaring to 13 percent — all the while being buffeted by an even worse recession in Europe.

The stress scenario “is not the Federal Reserve’s forecast for the economy,” the central bank cautioned.
But it “was designed to represent an outcome that, while unlikely, may occur if the US economy were to experience a deep recession at the same time that economic activity in other major economies contracted significantly.”

The Fed said that stress tests conducted since 2009 led to the banks increasing their core “tier one capital” by $339 billion to $759 billion by the fourth quarter of 2011.

Part of that increase, the Fed said, was due to its pressure for the banks to reduce or eliminate dividends to shareholders and instead hold the accumulated earnings as tier one capital.

After the 2011 tests, “the Federal Reserve allowed those financial institutions with well-developed capital plans and capital positions that would remain strong even under adverse conditions to increase distributions, but at a prudent pace that would ensure continued increases in capital,” it said.

The test results will be released at 4:30 pm (2030 GMT) Thursday, March 15.

The ABC/WashPo and CBS/NYTimes polls are all complete BS. They polled more GOP voters over Dem voters. They polled more white men over minorities and they used some BS warped logic to try and explain that clap trap. They see that as Nov. draws near, PBO looks more and more un-defeatable so what do they do? They bring out a biased poll to make voters think he’s weak and Romney is the strongest candidate since the creation of time. Pure hogwash.

Just returning and I haven’t paused to look at the videos yet as I can’t wait to share this quote of the day with you! It was my LOL for the day. In the car on the way back home the top three of the Republican shills pontificated on Iran as a prelude, then the reporter continued:

“Well, if you could kill a country with your mouth, the Republicans presidential candidates would have buried Iran a dozen times by now ”

I admit I found that particularly funny because I was just starting to grit my teeth at the snippets, and her comment was a timely reminder the candidates lacked substance and even foreign reporters get it. 😆 😆

LIES AND THE LYING LIARS WHO TELL THEM

On The Day He Qualifies For Medicare, Romney Touts Mistruths About The Program

    —————————————–

On the day of Mitt Romney’s 65th birthday, making him eligible for Medicare — though he’s not signing up for it — his campaign has released five questions about Medicare for President Obama, ranging from why the president is “ending medicare as we know it” to why he’s “creating an unaccountable board to ration care.”

The only problem? None of the issues Romney’s questions point out are true. Here’s why:

    • 200 Ladyhawke

rikyrah, we are on the same page. I was going to post a comment saying it was time for us to tweet, email, and call the newspapers and cable stations about them allowing Mitt Romney to lie with impunity. This is just outrageous. The mainstream media has abdicated their responsibility to educate and inform the public with THE FACTS.

Lawrence O’Donnell is right. Mitt Romney lies because the media tiptoes around and refuses to call out his pathological lying. He has a serious character flaw that the mainstream media is reluctant to address. They are cowards. They need to be reminded of the basic principles of journalism. The first and most important principle is their obligation to the truth.

      PRINCIPLES OF JOURNALISM

      =========================

      1. Journalism’s first obligation is to the truth

Democracy depends on citizens having reliable, accurate facts put in a meaningful context. Journalism does not pursue truth in an absolute or philosophical sense, but it can–and must–pursue it in a practical sense. This “journalistic truth” is a process that begins with the professional discipline of assembling and verifying facts. Then journalists try to convey a fair and reliable account of their meaning, valid for now, subject to further investigation. Journalists should be as transparent as possible about sources and methods so audiences can make their own assessment of the information. Even in a world of expanding voices, accuracy is the foundation upon which everything else is built–context, interpretation, comment, criticism, analysis and debate. The truth, over time, emerges from this forum. As citizens encounter an ever greater flow of data, they have more need–not less–for identifiable sources dedicated to verifying that information and putting it in context.

      2. Its first loyalty is to citizens

While news organizations answer to many constituencies, including advertisers and shareholders, the journalists in those organizations must maintain allegiance to citizens and the larger public interest above any other if they are to provide the news without fear or favor. This commitment to citizens first is the basis of a news organization’s credibility, the implied covenant that tells the audience the coverage is not slanted for friends or advertisers. Commitment to citizens also means journalism should present a representative picture of all constituent groups in society. Ignoring certain citizens has the effect of disenfranchising them. The theory underlying the modern news industry has been the belief that credibility builds a broad and loyal audience, and that economic success follows in turn. In that regard, the business people in a news organization also must nurture–not exploit–their allegiance to the audience ahead of other considerations.

    Misleading Mitt misguided on Medicare

    ——————————————————

Mitt Romney turned 65 today, and decided to celebrate his Medicare eligibility by … lying about Medicare.

As part of an effort to reverse the public’s perception of the parties’ positions on Medicare, Mitt Romney’s campaign is appropriating a common Democratic attack and using it against President Obama. To wit, it’s Obama, not Romney and the GOP, who plans to “end Medicare as we know it.”

Brian Beutler does a nice job taking apart Romney’s Medicare claims in great detail, noting among other things that Romney has endorsed Paul Ryan’s budget plan, which scraps the existing Medicare program and replaces it with a voucher scheme, making the larger argument rather ironic.

    The Canadian Press

Date: Monday Mar. 12, 2012 5:16 PM ET

TORONTO — Former U.S. vice-president Dick Cheney has cancelled a Canadian speaking appearance due to security concerns.

Cheney was slated to talk about his experiences in office and the current American political situation at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on April 24.

The event promoter says Cheney and his daughter Elizabeth decided against the engagement as a result of demonstrations at his appearance in Vancouver last fall.

He says they decided it was better to stay out of Canada for their personal safety.

In September, unruly demonstrators who accused Cheney of war crimes blocked entrances to the exclusive Vancouver Club where he was speaking.

He was forced to stay holed up in the club for seven hours before it was deemed safe for him to leave.

If truth be told though, I don’t want them to travel for the very same reasons. If they were to be hijacked, IMO it would add an extra burden to PBO’s shoulders for, undoubtedly he would feel compelled to negotiate their release. I can just imagine the colossal American debate whether PBO should or not. Talk about a potential divisive issue! I daresay that even some democrats would be on the ‘how dare they indict a former leader of these exceptional United States!” bandwagon – I suspect even some of those who clamored for them to be indicted here. No, let them strut around all puffed up in the US, until (please Lord) time/history points out definitively that these emperors wore no clothes during their reign and after.

Here’s a nifty little snippet from the 1 year report on the blueprint for energy:
In 2011, President Obama set a goal of breaking ground on at least four commercial scale cellulosic or
advanced biorefineries by 2013. That goal has been accomplished one year ahead of schedule. Together,
these projects, and associated demonstration and pilot projects will produce a combined total of nearly 100
million gallons per year of advanced biofuels capacity.

The latest hit from Vice President Joe Biden against the Republican 2012 field came at a $10,000-a-couple fundraiser for President Obama’s re-election effort tonight at the Georgetown home of Sen. John Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, according to the pool report:

“Ladies and gentlemen, we have an alternative that is crystal clear and they’re not making any bones about what they believe,” Biden said. “They’re just straight forward.”

“These guys don’t have a sense of the average folks out there,” he said. “They don’t know what it means to be middle class.”

    And earlier came this:

During his 27-minute speech Biden thanked the guests for their support. Without their generosity, he said, “We’re not going to be able to compete in terms of the super PAC money,” through which he estimates the Republicans raising between $200 and $800 million. “The truth of the matter is we can’t match it,” he said, but raising money the “old-fashioned” way will counter what he predicts will be a “barrage of negative ads that will inundate the airwaves that you have never ever seen in any of your careers.”

The Republicans, Biden said, are not “bad guys.” They just don’t “get it.”

Oh, man. Just saw “Game Change” Scary stuff. Sarah Palin was both dumb AND egotistical. That’s a dangerous combo, friends.

    • March 13, 2012 at 2:21 am

Yeah, it’s pretty scary! I watched it last night, even though I didn’t think I would. But, I did think that Julianne Moore did an excellent job playing the craziness that is Palin. In the end, I was just as angry with the character as with the real person! 🙂

  60. March 13, 2012 at 12:13 am

Woody Harrelson may have played GOP strategist Steve Schmidt in HBO’s “Game Change,” but that doesn’t mean the actor has much admiration for Schmidt’s fellow Republicans.

In a recent interview with Men’s Journal, Harrelson was asked if he had more sympathy for Republicans after filming the screen adaptation of a book by the same name that promised a glimpse behind the scenes of the 2008 McCain-Palin campaign. He didn’t mince words: ““F**k, no!” Harrelson is quoted as saying. “The s**t those people say just makes me weep for humanity!”

Harrelson did, however, have some sympathy for Schmidt himself. He said he spent some time with McCain’s campaign ace and was surprised by what he learned. “I really found myself liking him,” he said. “He’s a political animal, but I feel like he’s an idealist and not bogged down in all the bullshit.”

So, Ahem! Just dropping in to express myself. Thank you, Chips, TODers. Bear w/ me, not a lurker, but do comment here & there.

I just felt compelled today to ask AL, MS, MSM, Gallup, WAPO, heck USA and anyone so inclined: “Which Christianity are y’all in ISO or think you are?” Cos I just can’t figure it out. Ricky doesn’t represent y’all, seeing that he had that Lent soot thing on his forehead, which means, God Forbid, he’s so “foreign,” you know, like that guy w/ the bling & pimping hats, what’s his name? Yep, Go Big Papa and his crew. That fits your evangelical sensibility, eh? As they say, the difference is the same.

Then, why are you all being so un-Christian to Willard? Oh, right?!! Just cos his GrandDaddy (maybe a few times removed either side?) had wives all at the same time? But, Leroy is okay cos he had his wives simultaneously — like one at a time, but kinda overlapping? And Willard, he’s got that “foreign” religion (shhh, just like Ricky, you know not w/ soot, but foreign)? Well, darn if Leroy didn’t go join that same thingy as Ricky! He says he’s pimping w/ Papa, you know? But hey, how come he didn’t have that Ricky-black mark on his forehead at Lent. A little to “foreign”, Leroy?

So which one of these Upstanding, ahem, Christians are actually acceptable in the narrow pews of your local den of inequity, ahem, sorry “Church”? Let me ask you, just neighborly-like: why don’t you choose them as your pastor, priest, shoot, go for Cardinal, why don’t you? Go ahead & promote them thru your pews all the way to the empty pulpits and … and more power to you when you see the End Sign @ Vatican, Evangelicals School of Pulpitry, COE, etc. Stop.

Stop w/ the “ChurchCan’tBeSeparatedfromtheState” malfeasance. (And, yes, I said it: Malfeasance.) We keyboarders are hitting the damn space bar between each word, no apostrophes and any letter that immediately follows is enjoys the backspace.

Just go kneel @ your pew & let me know how long before you see Malfeasance strolling up and down the aisle. And Mal Jr. (could be a few Juniors Removed since his parentage is still suspect), just keeps hanging around Congress, a couple or so times in CA, likes the sunny climes, then I think WI is getting a tad cold for Mal Jr. …. and so on …

Anyhoo, back to “Christians.” Isn’t there a saying: Tell the truth & shame the devil? Well, then, you’re part way there – you know which part. Just hang out more freely w/ the devil, have a few more damn beers w/ the dude, since that’s what you like to do. Your choice: Liquidator, Fanatic, or Philanderer Guy, all heading us towards absolute disaster. Oh, and let’s not forget all the other dudes you “connected” with for 50 years or so at that bar (my advice, stay out of the bar, guy! You lost 60 years! Do you even know where your grandchildren are?).

Two questions: Haven’t you met non-white brilliant people before in your entire lives, even if those lives were a few times removed either side? What scares you so about a brilliant, non-white person today, someone who has not only done, but will do the best to bring us out of the mess that last guy with whom you had a pretend beer at that pretend bar? Answer truthfully & you have found your humanity.

And, welcome to the 21st Century! We have far better bars, better beers, and excite-grey-matter conversations! 🙂

Good night Chips and everyone here. I just want to thank you for a day of absolutely amazing information from the beginning to the end. By the comments that were shared here during the day and night, we all have a better sense of why we must vote and share our personal experiences with sincere honest truth why this president must be re-elected for another four years.

The lies about the polls just made me sick to my stomach. For years they have been manipulating the public with this bs to distract’ confuse and brainwash the public with the help of the media. They are disgusting and the have no morals. They will not stop.
    Flushing Rush is a start.

God bless and keep our President, his family and this administration to stay bold and strong during and leading up to November.
The truth is setting us all free……simply the truth.

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle have voted absentee in the March 20 Illinois primary, according to the Chicago Board of Elections Commissioners as reported by Sun-Times political writer Abdon M. Pallasch. The Obama ballots were processed on March 8.
Obama will be in Chicago Friday for a fund-raiser.
Obama of course is on the Democratic primary ballot; he lists his Chicago address, 5046 S. Greenwood Ave. on his nominating petitions.

Re: Mitt’s lies and Lawrence O’Donnell

The media abandoned jourrnalism a long time ago. They have no interest in what is factual or true. Their business is entertainment, and today was an excellent example of how they touted polls with results they manufactured by manipulating the sampling groups, for the sheer purpose of selling a false narrative on gas prices. Noticeably they ignored the Gallup Poll which they are otherwise interested in touting. There is no reason to give them an iota of respect or credence in their “entertainment” product, starting with polls.

The news were sounding to good for the President so they had to bring him down, here comes their blaming him for gas prices going up. As you said Bill R. the media has abandoned journalism along time ago, it is about entertainment. They have no interest in the trust.

The media doesn’t want this election to be a landslide, so they are doing all they can to help. Like the B.S, with the people in Alabama and Mississippi fell the President is Muslim, who the hell care what those racists southern white folks is told to think .

I watched Morning Joe for 5 minutes….of course it was the opening….Willie Geist started with that BS poll, how to explain those ”astonishing” numbers….oh please.

Rendell said something about not paying too much attention to the polls, noting that nothing significant happened to explain such a drop.

Geist said that it was typical to focus on good polls and ignore the bad ones…..of course he didn’t mention the ”good” Gallup poll.

Alex Wagner talked about gas prices.

And they were off……..yap yap yap ……

Polls are the easier tools to manipulate public opinion, to set the narrative….and sadly it works…..this is not journalism, it’s manufactured BS. Pathetic,…

      • March 13, 2012 at 7:41 am

The President is up 3 points on Robney 47-44 and 4 points on Santorum 48-44 in the CBS poll. Also, This poll is manipulated slightly with crosstabs favoring Republicans!!
This is with a 41% approval rating, and nobody talks about how weak the GOP must be?

  68. March 13, 2012 at 7:40 am

This is infuriating—–MJ crew are going wild on the new polls showing a 10 point drop for Obama in a month—–when all the news was favorable—-economy numbers up, women horrified by GOP threats against their rights flocking to support PBO—-the only negative was gas prices, and I don’t see how that accounts for that large of a non-manipulated poll drop, that that many people think President Obama is responsible for gas prices. One poll even had Obama at 39%—-on the economy, or something. No one is mentioning the shift in the crosstabs—–saw one tweet that said they polled 25% less Dems in one of these polls, that 9 million new Repubs registered to vote last month. This is all just preposterous and they are giving us fake polls with fake results. And the ABC news guy said that pollsters claimed there was a lack of enthusiasm among AA voters and that was the reason for the percentage change in this recent poll. And Carl Bernstein said people hate Obama, he kept using the word “virulent” to describe the feelings against him, and Rendell kept nodding along, and this explained the sudden drop. Idiotic. It feels like some twilight zone.

    • March 13, 2012 at 7:43 am

Also, the President up 70-14 amongst Latinos, and 80% approval amongst Indians, 91% approval amongst blacks.
Ask Willy he he can add?

      • March 13, 2012 at 7:57 am

They’re trying to say, with these polls, that there are 9 million more Repubs and 5 million less Dem voters —–the change happening in the last 30 days. The NYT is calling it the largest drop for any president in 15 years. This is such bs. What in the world is going on in this country? This is intentional manipulation, misleading, pushing a meme that is not real.

The White House says Michelle Obama will lead the official U.S. delegation to the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.

It has become somewhat of a tradition for first ladies to lead the U.S. delegation. Laura Bush headed the delegation to the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy, and Hillary Rodham Clinton headed up the delegation at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway.

Mrs. Obama on Tuesday will host a mini-Olympic competition with physical activities for D.C.-area children at American University. The competition is part of her Let’s Move! initiative promoting fitness and healthy eating.

Slght correction: They are attempting to swiftboat PBO but unlike John Kerry, more PBO supporters are informed and aware and are actively and promptly pushing back. Chuck Todd and Matt Lauer obviously felt the need to discuss the polls validity precisely because there have been widespread pushback and challenging of those polls. Otherwise it would be business as usual. I say let’s keep up the pressure on the dishonest media.

  73. March 13, 2012 at 8:15 am

Chuck Todd is telling Matt Lauer that there is a problem with the poll results showing that southerners believe Obama is a Muslim, the PPP poll. He thinks that was manipulated to give Dems an advantage, to say that the South is dumb and misinformed and that’s why they won’t vote for Obama. Todd does not have a problem with the other polls showing a huge shift in the electorate in one month’s time.

    • March 13, 2012 at 8:30 am

Let me get this right, so I shouldn’t believe a poll about Mississippian and Alabamian Republicans who can’t let go of the fact that the President is a genuine red blooded American because it makes southern Republicans look Racist, but I should believe the polls that show Barack Obama have a ten point drop in spite of good jobs reports because gas prices are somehow controlled by the President and not oil company speculators. How do they square this shit?

I’m sorry, but this shit reminds me of the Gulf Oil Spill, where the media blamed the President because he should dive down there and plug the hole himself somehow? Its maddening! Have you noticed that suddenly the media is not talking about Republicans anymore or what they would do to ease gas prices? Rush Limbaugh’s troubles eased away from the televisions, etc. It seems anything Republican or Republican related has been removed from the news media and now were on Barack Obama being responsible for lowering Gas. This is why I believe the economy is really recovering right now, because the media has now focused on something that they never blamed a President for before this one.

    • March 13, 2012 at 8:38 am

Rovian politics- look over there at these manipulated results and not the underpolling in the most recent polls.
      It’s the beltway!
      Swiftboat!

  74. March 13, 2012 at 8:16 am

Now the Today Show has moved on to gas prices and how it’s hurting everyone and how that means there is huge pressure on President Obama to DO SOMETHING about it. I am just in shock today. Everything is so dishonest.

amk, I don’t see this as “freaking out.” I do believe we need to combat the media lies and manipulations – especially when it’s quite obvious to us what they are engaging in. It was because of media lies and manipulations we ended up with GWB as President. It was because of media lies and manipulations we were duped into a useless war. It was because of media lies and manipulations John Kerry was swiftboated in 2004 causing GWB to be re-elected. It was because of media lies and manipulations we ALMOST ended up with Sarah Palin being elected on the Presidential ticket. And now the same media is working to put an unstable individual like Mitt Romney in the WH with similar lies and manipulations.

They LIE! Constantly. We already KNOW that..call them out and move on. They need to know we’re paying attention, but it’s going to be a L O N G few months for all of us if we panic at the sight of this slop that passes for “journalism” every time this happens. We have to focus, and work, and talk to neighbors and friends,…the freakouts only take eyes off the ball and cause doubt and worry to creep in and rear its ugly head. I’m not doing it. I refuse to be sucked in to negativity.

You have to take into effect all the accomplishments of PBO, against the nothing of the rest…..you have to take into account the fact that Americans are waking up to the obstruction, and who’s responsible. The fact that PBO has a POSITIVE message….and the others don’t.This is their party….wait until they CHOOSE a loon, and then it’ll be game on! All this talk is just that. Talk.Let them keep talking about my lady parts, talking away rights of voter’s and women and immigrants…..you think that’s going to win an election? They’ve already alienated 3/4 of America! I have no illusions that this will be easy. This time will be harder than the last (thank you idiot Supremes! for letting corp and big money. steal our democracy…WTF were they thinking!)

I’m going to have his back…as I know that you will…but the freakout over bogus polls needs to stop, so we can better focus on the job at hand.PBO knows this…we have to know this too. Waste of time right now. ..Our job is to spread the facts to others and engage them. Share what we know so that others may begin to connect the dots. That’s what I intend to do.

I’ve noticed, as have others, that every time there is a “big” Republican primary, these unfavorable to the President polls come out. If these are the actual results, which I doubt, it is because the Republicans are getting all the air time. People just respond to what they are hearing. As Jim Messina said, fundraising will be better when there is one real opponent, and so will polls. I distrust these polls, and we all know how certain people feel about the President, such as those in Alabama and Mississippi. That is not news. I live in Oklahoma, and many of these are the same. For goodness sakes, President Obama only got 57% of the DEMOCRATIC primary vote here! The OKC paper was crowing over that. These states are not representative of the country as a whole.
Have you ever driven through Mississippi? Apologies to anyone on this board from there, but that was the scariest ride our family ever had, and we just went across the top from Memphis to Huntsville, Alabama, and were we glad to get out of those states!!! We felt like redneck shotguns were aimed at us the entire time. We stopped at a market for something to eat…..it was a scary experience. We were “northerners” to them….with an Oklahoma license plate!
