You’re used to seeing President Barack Obama on the nightly news and cable networks but, on the Cartoon Network?

When the network airs “Speak Up,” a documentary about bullying, Obama will deliver a “special opening message” to viewers, according to a release announcing the move. Obama has been a regular critic of bullying, having convened a prevention summit on the topic at the White House last year.

    2. courage; spunk; guts: It takes gumption to quit a high-paying job.
    3. common sense; shrewdness.

Like Meta yesterday I wasn’t too sure if it was a good idea for the campaign to use Palin in that ad, I’d love for her just to be ignored. But Steve Benen, as usual, makes sense:

…. while Palin (probably) won’t be on the ballot in 2012, the Obama campaign is seizing on her comments to remind the Democratic base of the kind of ugliness and extremism the party is up against this election year. It relates directly to efforts to drum enthusiasm among Dems who may not be fully engaged just yet, implicitly arguing, “Don’t let Palin and her ilk win.”

I wouldn’t be too surprised if Republican leaders and the Romney campaign ask Palin to take a much lower profile in the coming months. Whether Palin honors the request is another matter.

Willard will have a difficult decision whether to let her speak at the Republican convention or not. She said the other day she would attend, and it can be certain she expects a primetime speaking slot.

      • March 12, 2012 at 7:33 pm

She also said that she’s on standby in case they need her to swoop in and accept the nomination for POTUS. I almost think that was her secret plan. She didn’t want the scrutiny of a primary season, she didn’t want the wear and tear and work of it. She just wanted the nomination, the coronation. She keeps saying that God is opening doors for her, that it may be His plan.

I had decided to totally cut off T.V. Cable subscription. But after watching this clip of Martin Bashir, I am reconsidering my decision. That was a brilliant expose of the idiocy of Sarah Palin. Surely there are many sane and intelligent people in Alaska. Still, I just can’t imagine what prompted the majority of Alaska voters to choose Sarah Palin as their governor. I suppose she must know a great deal about Alaskan politics. But, she certainly would have been an embarrassment as a Vice President of the United States. Even VP Don Quayle, who was repeatedly mocked for being clueless, was not this bad.

I notice that there is virtually no discussion of the movie “Game Change” in the MSM seeing it was just released over the weekend, and they had initially hyped it up so much. Apart from Martin Bashir, the MSM seemed more devoted to that bogus WaPo poll today. Even on Tweety’s show there was absolutely no discussion of the movie. Is it because the largely negative reaction that people had towards the individuals depicted in the movie wasn’t quite what the media was hoping for?

    • 103 Bill
      March 12, 2012 at 6:06 pm

Great point. The movie was being promoted all last week as being sympathetic to the half term governor. The viewers have not agreed.

      • 104 Cha
        March 12, 2012 at 10:32 pm

Had they not seen the movie? Because I wouldn’t be going to watch it tonight if it were “sympathetic” to palin. There’s no reason to be sympathetic to a dangerous idiot.

Too bad for them that they already hyped it so much then.

    • 105 Bobfr (aka Our4thEstate)
      March 12, 2012 at 6:06 pm

hf, I think your assessment is correct. I suspect they were truly repulsed by both what was depicted in the movie and the highly deserved revulsion most viewers had for the (factual) content of the movie. Martin Bashir’s assessment is the inescapable truth regarding SP, and even the lamest of #NEWSTAINER knows it.

        Aren’t they all msnbc contributors?

      • March 12, 2012 at 8:18 pm

They need to be disparaged – and maybe even arrested for treason. The fact that the whole lot on the McCain campaign who we saw in those briefing rooms kept silent, cheered on Palin for small “victories” and were entirely unserious about the dangers this country was facing – it’s astounding.

I ended up watching the movie using the link provided last night, and I was furious by the end of the movie. I was screaming at my TV throughout. And I could not believe how dangerously irresponsible the McCain campaign was, and confounded about McCain’s insistence to this day that Palin was qualified to be one heartbeat away from the presidency. The whole lot should be ashamed. And it’s a crime that the GOP has put forward for consideration a whole slew of know-nothings once again, after dodgng the disaster that is Sarah Palin.

And the movie really highlights the fact that President Obama’s team is entirely serious, really smart, infinitely capable and 100% committed to doing the best jobs they can possibly do.

Somebody please explain to me why this Maher clip is supposed to be a must see? Personally, I am more concerned with the covert racism that is practiced by highly educated and financially well off powerful people, like the Koch brothers and the Republican candidates, than I am about the poor and the less educated people in Mississippi. May be it’s me, but I find video clips like these, making fun of the racism of dirt poor whites, to be a smokescreen to hide the racism of people who exploit them, while pretending to be color blind. Just my tow cents!

  23. 115 hopefruit2
    March 12, 2012 at 6:10 pm

Can someone please explain something to me here.

Why is the media all over this poll of Republican Alabamians/Mississippians about whether or not they think PBO is a Muslim? Haven’t we gone down that road in 2008? Don’t we already know how these people feel? This is not news, and particularly when there currently is a GOP Primary in AL and MS with for GOP candidates on the ballot, none of which are the President. I find it curious that the media or pollsters were not interested in how these people felt about Romney’s Mormonism, considering he is the current GOP frontrunner and the one they are going to have to vote for in Nov 2012, not Barack Obama. Obama is not going to be campaigning in MS or AL. So why all the sudden attention on this issue?

Let’s put this differently. Would the media be interested in a poll about how California Democrats feel about Rick Santorum’s extreme rightwing ideas if we were currently having a DEM primary in a very liberal state (say California) between four DEM candidates for President?

ATLANTA — In the weeks leading up to Super Tuesday, Georgia has been flooded with Republican candidates. But the week after the primary election, the democratic candidate will make his own stop. It will be President Obama’s first visit to metro Atlanta in 18 months.

The March 16th events range in price from $500 to $35,800 per person. The first is a 5 p.m. event called a Gala Celebration, sponsored by the African American Leadership Council and Tyler Perry. It will be at Perry’s studios on Continental Colony Parkway. Five hundred dollars will get you general admission; $2,500 gets you the VIP treatment.

The other invite is to Tyler’s Perry’s home at 8 p.m. The exact address is revealed only after RSVP, will cost a hefty $35,800 a person, and includes a photo with President Obama.

  25. March 12, 2012 at 6:17 pm

After two days of private meetings in Charlotte, N.C., some members of President Barack Obama’s campaign fund-raising team said they were encouraged by internal reports showing that donations are coming in at strong clip so far in the first quarter of 2012.

The Obama campaign’s National Finance Committee met Sunday and Monday in the city hosting the 2012 Democratic National Convention. Campaign officials who attended the meetings included campaign manager Jim Messina, and Julianna Smoot, a deputy campaign manager.

The deadline for filing campaign reports covering the month of February is March 20, but some who attended said they learned the campaign’s fund-raising haul last month was one of the most impressive to date. They declined to discuss specific numbers.

“On the fund-raising side we’re doing very well,’’ said one person who was at the meetings. “The only thing you have to remember is the opposition will probably end up outspending us because of the super PACs’’ – independent groups that can accept unlimited sums of money on behalf of particular candidates.

To date, Obama’s campaign has raised about $137 million – more than the combined take of the four major Republican presidential candidates, according to data collected by the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics. (Click here to see WSJ.com’s interactive fund-raising tracker.)

The polling is bogus. No one with half a brain believes that poll. As someone stated earlier, these sudden “drop” in approvals are to help Mitt Romney in the south with voters who may be weighing in on who might be the best GOP candidate to beat Obama in November. The weaker they can make Obama look, esp. relative to Mitt Romney, the more likely the southern voters are going to vote for Romney tomorrow.

All this nonsense polling about PBO being Muslim in AL and MS is also to distract voters from the fact that Romney is a Mormon. Notice there is virtually no mention anywhere whatsoever of Romney’s religion in the media or in the polls.

Preachers’ Goal: A Million New Voters on Easter
    http://www.blackamericaweb.com/?q=articles%2Fnews%2Fmoving_america_news%2F37770

When the pews are packed this year on Easter Sunday, preachers at black churches across America will have an additional message for the worshippers: Register to vote.

Several African-American denominations have come together to launch The Empowerment Movement. This initiative will bring together leaders of the faith-based community from all denominations and is designed to move the African-American community forward in politics, education and economics with the use of Christian principles.

“In 1965, Rev. Martin Luther King, a Baptist, Rev. Joseph Lowery, a United Methodist, and Andy Young, a Disciples of Christ preacher, walked out of an AME Church and marched together in Selma for voting rights,” said Rev. Jamal Bryant, leader of The Empowerment Movement.

“Leaders in the black church today must step up in unity,” Bryant said in a phone interview with BlackAmericaWeb.com, as he walked Monday in the 2012 commemoration of the Selma-to-Montgomery civil rights march…[snip]

The goal is to register 1 million black voters in church on Easter Sunday, April 8. With more than 500,000 black churches in this country and many of them filled to capacity on Easter, the goal could be reached with an average of 20 registrations at each church.

The Empowerment Movement, a non-partisan organization, was launched with the support of the AME Church, AME Zion Church, Church of God in Christ, Progressive, Bible Way Churches, Full Gospel, Gospel Music Workshop of America, CME, United Covenant Churches, Harvest Churches, Fellowship of international Word of Faith, Church of God, Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, and members of the Congressional Black Caucus, the NAACP and the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.

If the goal of 1 million voter registrations in one day is reached, it will break a Guinness Book world record, Bryant said.

Somebody got the math wrong in this article. Hear, let me fix that:

“With more than 500,000 black churches in this country and many of them filled to capacity on Easter, the goal could be reached with an average of TWO registrations at each church.”

Thank you Dudette, this is the best picture of church laying hands and praying for the then candidate Senator Obama during his campaign. President Obama and his family needs our prayers now and forever because the GOP and the Devil are working overtime, but they WILL NOT prevail. Lord, please watch over and protect President Obama, Mrs. Obama, their children, mother and of course BO.

P.S. I always felt that pets take on their owners temperment and sometime their personality. You see how calm BO is around people and how open and friendly he is, that is a testiment to our President and first lady, and his family. When you can show one of Gods most vulenerible creature the love the first family has for their pet you know you are dealing with people with a good heart.

I was watching this church service online in Nashville, TN on Sunday, and they made an announcement about forms that they were passing out to people in the church who were not registered to vote. They also announced a series of meetings they were holding specifically dedicated to voting to familiarize people with the process and the new rules. They will follow through in getting people what they need to meet the new qualifications. I was very impressed.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I hope the proper authorities are keeping tabs on the Diebold company, its voting machines and its software. That is all.

Dudette, I agree – I think Diebold company changed their name–but their game is the same.
And, we have to deal with those GOP Voter Suppression Laws, and do voter registrations, and GOTV!
Wow, a lot to do between now and victory on11-06-12!

Thanks Dudette. I’m hoping that the Obama campaign is aware and on top of this. I would imagine that they are. They won’t reveal all that they know though. But just in case, we could sent a quick tweet every now and then to Axelrod, Messinger, Carney and Barack Obama just giving them a gentle reminder on the issue.

An expose’ was done on them about 4 – 5 years ago. It was discovered that the machine could be programmed to steal votes way ahead of time before they were shipped and modified before the day of use. That’s why I ask for a paper ballot.

Romney: ‘I’ve Got A Lot Of Good Friends’ Who Are NFL Team Owners

Late last month, Mitt Romney was the butt of many jokes after he said that although he is not a huge NASCAR fan, “I have some great friends that are NASCAR team owners.” But Romney’s friends are more diverse than just car racing owners — they include professional football team owners as well.

Appearing on Alabama sports commentator Paul Finebaum’s radio show this afternoon, Romney was asked about which team he thinks quarterback Peyton Manning will sign with. Romney said he wasn’t sure, but noted that he has some very good friends who own NFL teams:

The elected county commissioners in New Hanover County, N.C. are sick and tired of using taxpayer funds to assist women who can’t keep their legs closed. And so on Monday they voted to reject a state grant designed to cover family-planning services.

The Wilmington, N.C. Star-News reports the commission in the coastal county has “unanimously voted to turn down a state family planning grant that would cover contraceptive supplies along with other medical services related to family planning.”

The commissioners didn’t think it was right to use taxpayer money to pay for women who want to have sex for non-procreative purposes.

    From the Star-News:

Chairman Ted Davis said he thought it was a sad day when “taxpayers are asked to pay money for contraceptives” for women having sex without planning responsibly.

“If these young women are being responsible and didn’t have the sex to begin with, we wouldn’t have this problem to begin with,” Davis said.

The New Hanover County decision comes amid a growing debate about contraception and family planning in North Carolina and nationally. Last year, North Carolina’s Republican-led legislature became one of a handful to try and ban state funding for Planned Parenthood.

The Washington Times reported Friday that the counterterrorism arm of the Treasury Department is probing speaking fees paid to Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) by supporters of the Iranian opposition group Mujahideen-e Khalq (MEK), which the U.S. government considers a terrorist organization.

But Rendell is far from the only former government official who has publicly acknowledged accepting speaking fees from supporters of the MEK, which has been lobbying to get the group off the State Department’s list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations. The Huffington Post put together a list of 33 speakers at various MEK related meetings and conferences, though not all of them had accepted payments.

MEK supporters include a former director of the FBI, the former U.S. Attorney General, former military leaders and former high-ranking elected officials of both political parties, many of whom were paid thousands of dollars for short public speeches. The list of officials advocating for MEK to be taken off the list — which the group often helpfully provides in media packets at MEK rallies — includes Michael Mukasey, Patrick Kennedy, Rudy Giuliani, Andy Card, Howard Dean, Lee Hamilton, Bill Richardson, Tom Ridge, Wesley Clark, Fran Townsend and John Bolton.

I’m hoping if and when Chips finds the time, she can do a front pager on these bogus polls and their sudden shift in sampling to make PBO seem weaker overall and relative to Mitt Romney. I think the more the media is exposed, the less likely they are to pull this kind of stuff in the future. Furthermore, the more people who are made aware of what they are doing, the less likely these voters are to be swayed or depressed by the media’s BS narratives that accompany their bogus polls.

I can’t believe how many tweets I retweeted about the bogus poll…you guys are on it……it’s so infuriating the way they manipulate the narrative.

    • March 12, 2012 at 8:07 pm

I see ABC news guy tweet reply to questions about overpolling Repubs this time——his explanation: “high rate among AAs as basis of some concern about enthusiasm and turnout”. So that’s their reason. They don’t think AAs are going to show up this time to vote for President Obama.

      • 179 hopefruit2
        March 12, 2012 at 8:10 pm

WTF?!?!? Even so his explanation makes absolutely no sense. What does “high rate among AAS” mean? High rate of enthusiasm? High rate of turnout? High rate of UNenthusiasm?

        • March 12, 2012 at 8:15 pm

I took it to mean high rate of lack of enthusiasm. So—–they adjusted their numbers to account for this. Less Dems polled. Preposterous, I know.

          • March 12, 2012 at 8:17 pm

And by the way, who is feeding this nonsense? The Black Caucus? I can’t believe they got those responses from a wide swath of polled AAs. ” Nah, I don’t think I’ll vote this time.” I don’t believe it.

That segment is a must see, and it is also a major warning for us voters about the same GOP operatives who are trying their hardest to now force Mitt Romney, the automated soulless creature and corporate-loving puppet, down our collective throats.
